So thrilled to be here. She was going to think twice about asking that asshole Police Chief for a favor from now on. Damn him, he knew how much she hated going to these kinds of events, and yet he had pulled rank and called in every favor she owed him, which meant she had to be here in this ridiculous dress on behalf of the police department. Why they couldn't have gotten a Captain for the job, she didn't know, but she suspected it had to do with the fact that the department had gotten a bad reputation lately, and all of the captains were so ugly that they would have gotten kicked out for indecency just for showing their damn faces, especially that dog-faced boss of hers. Oh, the Chief was gonna pay for this bullshit. Adjusting her dress as she stood there with her hair pulled back into a bun that had taken a stylist almost an hour to tug into place, she took another sip of the wine, wishing there was something stronger at the table. At least good booze would have been a redeeming quality. She was already wondering where a good place would be to step out for a cigarette, and she was thankful that the clutch had room for the whole pack. The stupid dress had no pockets, and she couldn't run in it without tripping over her own feet. Why did people ever dress like this? She pasted a smile on her face as an older dignity walked by, nodding politely to her. She would have to answer questions on behalf of the department, and not only did that mean that she was probably in for a lot of abuse, it meant that people would assume that she had become a detective for her pretty face. That was obviously the reason that she'd been chosen for this stupid job, after all. They should have gotten someone higher up, someone who had actual authority and influence. What the hell was she supposed to do to solve the department's problems, when she was just a detective? Eying the bubbles in her glass, she threw back another violent sip. She was gonna need a hell of a lot of wine to get through this night. IT'S A SHOUT TO THE VOID. PHARAOH LEAP. Just flag her down as she meanders. | 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Dullahan’s patrols took her to the main ballroom. The night was young, but already the air stank with expensive cologne and strong perfume. Chatter among nobility filled the room with a low murmur. She was more focused on patrolling for guards than trouble from guests; someone had to make sure they weren’t slacking off, or getting into a discussion with a foreign dignitary. Hunters, in her experience, lacked tact, both in the field and with their words. She wasn’t much better; social cues were… difficult. She just didn’t quite understand them, and was blunt to a fault. But at least she had the brains to keep her damn mouth closed for it. She caught a familiar face slamming back the wine like there was no tomorrow, and she almost didn’t recognize her longtime friend. She smirked. There was no way in hell Talia volunteered for this. Dullahan approached her from behind, staying a few feet back and to the side; no doubt Talia would have heard her approach with her dress shoes clacking on the ballroom floor. Now… how would Oliver do this… “Ah, Lady Ivanov,” Dullahan said with a cheery tone and an exaggerated bow. “So good to see you! Do let me know if there’s anything I can do to ensure your evening is a pleasant one.” No doubt the reaction would be less than kind. She straightened up but didn’t lose her faint smile. “Evening, Talia. Let me guess; the chief forced you into this?” She knew how he worked. He made Talia’s life hell and that pissed Dullahan off to no end. She was one of the only reasons that parts of the Vice had a positive reputation. “I didn’t know you owned a dress, either. Never thought I’d see you in one.” |

So happy to see you. So very happy.
Talia's eyes deadened as she heard a familiar voice, and she slowly turned her head to glare at her friend, who she would have ordinarily been happy to see. It was bad enough that she had to wear the stupid dress out in public, but now even her friends would be there to see her embarrassment? Just great. Fantastic. She gritted her teeth at Dullahan's act, her grip tightening on the wine glass as she seriously considered flipping her off. Unfortunately, in a room full of dignitaries, it would be just her luck that someone would see it and it would reflect badly on the department.
"You can always shove that poorly concealed weapon up your six o'clock," she hissed instead, keeping her voice down enough that she wouldn't be overheard.
When Dullahan dropped the act, Detective Ivanov's irritation didn't fade, but the anger in her eyes did. At least Caroline seemed to understand how much Talia hated the whole situation and everyone in it. It was less annoying than the people who genuinely liked to be here and assumed that she was honored to be chosen for such an event. She'd already had to strangle the impulse to smother a couple of elderly women who had thought it was the opportunity of a lifetime for her to be here. Why couldn't she have come in a suit like Dullahan had? Even if she'd been working security, at least she wouldn't have to wear a dress.
"Apparently, someone worked it into the budget," she answered the inquiry, putting the empty wine glass on a tray as the waiter walked by. "It's amazing how they had to cut from the transportation budget because of no funding, and yet they can afford a ridiculous dress for some fru-fru party."
She was careful not to speak to loudly, but she had to work to keep her face looking neutral from a distance. Only someone standing as close as Dullahan could see how tightly she held her jaw, and how cold her eyes were. She looked around the ballroom, trying to track down another waiter. The serving sizes for the food were doing nothing to sate her appetite, but all attempts at locating a buffet table had been met with failure. The place was huge, and no one had thought to provide her with a map of the festivities.

Notes OutfitObviously open-ended. Obviously anyone can approach Dully at any point; the whole thread is fluid time. Just flag her down as she meanders. | 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID A rare, short bark of laughter escaped Dullahan’s mouth at the comment. “I’d rather do that than babysit a gathering of well-dressed fools.” She did seem legitimately angry, though; Dullahan wasn’t good at reading anyone, but she could sense some things about people she was close to. And it was easy for her to tell when Talia was pissed. Well, that’s what Dullahan got for trying to make jokes for once in her life. Best leave those to Oliver. “Yeah, that’s the story of budgets, isn’t it?” She said. “Well, you look better in it than the chief would, at least, so that’s something.” She put her arms behind her and kept her eye on the movements within the ballroom. It was always surprising how quickly such a large room could fill up. Clearly Talia was looking to drink herself into a stupor to survive the night, and she couldn’t blame her. Few people approached her; no need to bother security if all was well, right? If she were more perceptive to attraction and lust, she may have noticed lingering eyes from a few of the ladies and gents around the ballroom, but such things were lost on her. She nodded her head to the side, indicating that she should follow. “Come on, I’ll take you to the buffet; there’s more waitstaff over there who would be happy to help sauce you up for the evening.” If Talia followed, Dullahan would weave through the crowd with some degree of ease; even the pompous and arrogant didn’t want to get plowed over by the tank moving towards them. If not, she would simply stay with her friend for a bit longer. “Just try not to suplex some duke through a table please; you’re not exactly a peaceful drunk. I’d hate to have to toss you out for the night,” there was a slight pause, and a grin. “Mostly because I’d be jealous that you got out of here early.” |

Within a corner of marbled columns the shadows would spiral inwards to allow a silhouette to materialize an appearance. A Kupiec adorned in that usual suit would step forward, His tassled shoe sounding as He mused about His surroundings momentarily. The God would carry the appearance of a Surajan human that would prove most recognizable to those that had met Him before. Turning sideways the Deity would extend His hand back within the spiraling void to smile gently as another took His. "You look lovely as always, my friend." Would be His greeting to the Goddess that would arrive in a similar manner, truly the embodiment of beauty.
Upon the feminine deity having fully arrived within the mortal plane the God of Commerce would offer His arm in escort. "Truly the envy of the night." He'd further compliment as the black void would finally allow the shadows to disperse, returning to their original plots correctly resting in the column's shelter from brighter light. "I'm so pleased you granted me the honor of accompanying Me on a night out. I was hoping you'd be interested."
A guard would turn the corner to begin his rounds and would give the couple a double take. With how tight security was tonight it was safe to assume the pair had walked through the previous checkpoints at the front gate and so on. Whoever they were, they were richies who liked theatrics. Or at least the lady with the flamboyant hat. The couple didn't much give the guard so much as a glance as they passed each other. Definitely people of importance the guard mused to himself as he continued along his route.
"As usual you'll have to tell me how the food is." Ku commented lightly with a light shrug of his shoulder. "And do try to save at least one dance for me, dear? Hm?" The God would grin freely to the Goddess upon His arm. "I do enjoy our time together after all. In between poking fun with whoever We might come across?" As Ku would enjoy whatever light banter may come about in response, the two continued their stroll towards the Ballroom where there proved to be at least one form of entertainment, surely.

Welcome to your
Nevyne phased in with a gentle smile on her lips, barely displaying the sharp teeth hidden behind her lips. Her form was that of a pale, white-haired and blue-eyed woman, as she appeared in some dreams. She set her hand gently upon the offered arm and looked up to the taller deity; yes, up- for this evening, she decided to let her old friend have a few inches on her. He did invite her, after all. “And you, as well, my dear. Though I must say, you might look more handsome in a nicer suit.”
She laughed; she was teasing, of course. He loved that outfit, and if it wasn’t broke, don’t fix it. She, on the other hand, loved changing her outfits and appearances. Tonight was a long, black dress, adorned with lace and with deliberate slits to show off her legs and cleavage. Opgraven was the main attraction for her ensemble; he took the form of a large, floppy hat, black with an icy blue feather that looked like it was plucked from an impossibly large bird. His unblinking eyes looked like large buttons or jewels. There were pops of color in the funeral-black outfit; Opgraven’s eyes, her own, her nails, and minimalistic trim and lace throughout her dress; all the same blue as the feather in her hat.
“Then you should take me places more often, my friend,” she said with a grin. She lazily looked around the room, taking in the scenery as well as the people. “Or at least visit more. Mmm, my, my; they truly spared no expense on the décor. Felici never fails to impress when it comes to the arts.”
She strolled with him; the pair was in no hurry; they wanted mortal eyes upon them. She reveled in stares from noble ladies, some hungry, some confused (trying to figure out these new feelings involuntarily entering their minds). “Of course, dear Ku; we’ll share the first dance, if you wish.” She laughed low. “Ah, is your mortal friend in attendance this evening? The irritable one with the green hair? I’m sure she’ll be delighted to see you; I am interested to see if any of my more interesting dreamers are here. I suspect there shall be at least one.”

“ YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT. Daniel managed to suppress a sigh just before he entered the ballroom. It was turning out to be a slow night on the job. It seemed a silly thing to complain about, but the man was used to more in the way of action during his assignments and standing around watching a bunch of overdressed nobles in the latest, most expensive fashions was anything but his idea of action. However, it was a good thing when all was said and done; him having something to do was a sign that something had gone wrong with the event, and the objective here was to prevent such a thing from occurring. That small detail wasn’t enough to change the fact that this night was boring, peaceful though it was. He concocted a reason to do a quick sweep of the area and left the foyer for a quick stroll.
To be honest, the ballroom wasn’t much better in offering something more interesting. The only difference between the two rooms was the fact that the same overstuffed noble he’d already seen were mingling or dancing to the music wafting from a small orchestra cloistered discreetly out of the way. He scanned the crowds for anyone that he didn’t immediately recognize, suspicious behavior, or anything just plain out of the ordinary. On a whim, he decided to sniff the air for something out of place; there wasn’t anything he didn’t expect. Expensive cologne, perfume that ranged from irritating to alluring, fine wine and gourmet food. Nothing to out of the ordinary except… …spice?
Oh, hell.
Daniel wove his way through the crowd in the direction of the scent. He’d long since lost his ability to fully categorize and memorize the particulars of a person’s scent, but this one was still fresh enough in his memory. It was likely that he was just being paranoid. On the off-chance that he wasn’t…
He pulled free of the crowd enough to catch sight of the scent’s source. The familiar face he saw wasn’t one he was exceedingly happy to see. And on His arm, was another familiar face that garnered much the same response. Daniel drew in a deep breath before striding purposefully towards the duo, dipping his head in respect to each in turn.
“Lord, Lady. I didn’t think you’d be in attendance.” Flowery speech he’d practiced for hours in the old days. It would serve its purpose here.

"This suit is "nicer" than most the ones you will see tonight." Ku returned. He knew the Goddess was poking fun but His materialistic side just couldn't allow such a comment be left reply-less. "It was custom made by the late Ozwald Boateng in the first decade of the twenty-first century. The wool used is just an 11.1 micron diameter with an inclusion of qivuk, pashmina and vicuna." The God gave Nevyne a raised brow, fully knowing that if She weren't outwardly She was laughing at Him inwardly. "The stitching is made of white gold." He'd finish with something that resembled a grumble. An amusing sight to say the least. The pair had known each other long enough, Nev knew exactly how to playfully poke at His buttons. And He let Her, falling into a cute mumbling near every time upon recognizing the Goddess didn't as much care for possessions as He did.
Having cast His gaze to the side the Deity would exhale a light-hearted sigh. "Damn soul hasn't realized its true calling in near four centuries now. Yeah, painting can be admired but I can't wear a canvas." Though the light pity wouldn't last long. Kupiec would return with His own playful grin to the elegant woman upon His arm. "See, I need pretty things. You're the one whose beauty has no comparison. Materialistic secularities help Me barely keep up on your coat tails. Isn't that right, Op?" Ku would glance up to the extravagant hat to smile kindly. Whether there was any sign of a reply or not the pair would enter the ballroom with their banter set aside for the moment and carrying nothing but a prideful air.
"Mmm, I'd still say I prefer my Suraja to Ethean festivities but I'll be the first to admit I'm biased." Ku would say with a warm smile, taking in the decorative brouhaha. "I would like that very much actually." The God would admit, returning His gaze to the beautiful face underneath Opgraven. And then came the question that honestly got a chuckle from Him. "I wouldn't doubt it. She does me proud often."
It would be then, with the Great Muse still upon His arm, that Kupiec would notice the human approaching them with purpose. A familiar human. Ku would pause in His own stride, waiting. As a Deity it would be rude to notice and continue walking away from a follower. Those strangely colored eyes watched on with a pleased coolness at the shallow bow. "Most never do." The God would state simply, a small grin forming. "Dear, this is a Mr Daniel Caim, a recent business partner of mine."

“…is made of white gold,” she mouthed in unison with him. She did snicker outwardly at his pride and defense of his suit. It was nicer than anything she had seen, but suits were suits; they weren’t as interesting as dresses or other outfits; when would mortals (and Kupi) get bold with their fashion choices? And she giggled once more at his compliments; oh, he was a charmer, she couldn’t deny, and he knew how to please her with words as well as she knew how to tease him with hers.
“Well, I do have an advantage in beauty,” she said, reaching up to stroke the brim of her ‘hat.’ “Oppy is much more of a fashionista than he cares to let off. I always consult with him on my outfits and appearances.” She pat him again once she felt him tightening around her head in playful protest. She nodded her head at the mortals they passed and flashed a wink at each lovely woman who locked eyes with her; none could keep that contact for more than a moment.
“Oh, Suraja is lovely, too, my dear,” she cooed. “But Ethea is the art capital of the world for a reason. One could make an argument for Elios, certainly; I really should take some time to visit once more.”
She halted along with Kupiec, eyes drifting to what caused her companion such pause. She smiled at the approaching familiar face. Ah, she remembered this one quite well. “Actually, my dear friend, I am already acquainted with Mr. Caim. He is a most interesting gentleman, Ku; you seem to have a knack for dealing with such intriguing mortals.” She turned to smile at Daniel, displaying the tips of her sharp teeth for a moment. “How nice to see you again, Mr. Caim. Have you made use of the gift I granted you?”

“ YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT. Daniel arched a brow at the banter between the two Deities. They seemed to know one another, and very well at that. More importantly, it revealed a crucial bit of information: the gods were not all knowing as the priesthood would have one believe. There were gaps in what they knew, what they could see, or it appeared that way at least. That was useful to say the least. He might be able to keep the Huntress off his scent for a while.
“I guess that means the two of you know each other, then,” he said. “Can’t say I’m surprised.” It did, however, surprise him to hear he was considered “intriguing” by the Great Muse, a title used to refer to Her by Her followers. He didn’t think of himself as all anything all that interesting; it was humility born of experience brought on by age. A smile crossed his lips all the same. It wasn’t often that a mortal was the subject of a compliment from a goddess, even if it was one with such an awful reputation.
“Nice to see you, too.” It wasn’t a lie either. Nevyne had opened his eyes to a great many things about both himself and other matters, and he was grateful for it. “I have, my Lady. Thought that I was going crazy when I saw what an old drinkin’ buddy of mine was dreamin’ about. Turns out it was just your blessing makin’ itself heard. They thought it was interesting when I brought it up in the temple district.” He caught sight of another guard making her way over just in time to wave the woman away. She gave him as strange look but he returned one in kind that said he had the situation under control. The woman walked away and Daniel was free to direct his full attention back to the duo before him.
“They’ve been teachin’ me about Your gift. It’s interestin’ ta see what people dream about.”

"Oh?" Kupiec's eyebrows rose together in a genuine showcasing of polite surprise. Ku's gaze traveled from the shared mortal (apparently) to the dear friend He had escorted here this night. "Is that so?" His thumb began to rub gently against his index finger. A minimal action, barely noticeable, but one that signified a thinking process for those that knew Him. "Well of course I know the grandest artist to ever exist." The honey dripped from His lips with a practiced ease. "What sort of networker would I be?" The God scoffed with a light heartedness, the grin never faltering in the slightest. Something the gracious Goddess surely would know not to take seriously. They were friends. The idea that She was an acquaintance for beneficial business ventures was one that had been cast aside thousands of years ago.
However then came those sweet sweet conversation topics of a gift. Mr Caim was even kind enough to go into detail of what gift that was. Within the Deity's thoughts the rook glistened with a new encrusted gem. Ku's smile easily remained as He couldn't help but inwardly furrow brows. Why hadn't the mortal told Him of this before? When purchasing a new appliance wasn't it preferred for mortals to be informed of all of the tool's abilities and possible benefits?
But to be fair, Kupiec had learned long ago that what was common sense to Him was not necessarily common sense to others. A God could have a single converastion with the human and conclude that any disrespect had not been meant. It was a petty mindset to hold for very long and so Ku allowed it to flutter off. Conversations were a two party deal after all. Kupiec hadn't asked for a complete run down of the new appliance before purchase. What He had heard had pleased Him enough. This was just another benefit He concluded with ease.
"It can be very beneficial as well if utilized correctly." Ku commented lightly. "You should let me know when you have a solid understanding of the gift my gracious friend has blessed you with." After stating so Kupiec would turn to the beautiful goddess upon His arm. "Only in regards to the little idea I had that I told you about previously." The Deity would say in the Olden language. "Nothing you would disapprove of, I promise." The God's eyes shimmered in multiple hues momentarily as the verbal promise was made.

Welcome to your
She smirked and nodded at her friend’s compliment, uttering a small laugh out of politeness. His praise didn’t make her bashful; she knew it was true, after all. But he was still kind to say so, ever the gentleman. He really was an upstanding god, despite his reputation among mortals. “Networker, is it?” She teased. “Ku, dear, you really must stop making everything about business. Relax a little, won’t you? It is a party, after all! Ahuhuhu~”
She smiled down at the mortal. “How wonderful; I knew you would make good use of it, Mr. Caim. It is doubly nice to hear you mingling with my priests. They aren’t quite as scary as the other temple-goers would have you believe, are they? My dreamers will help you so long as you maintain respect.” Yes, her priests were much busier after recent events, greeting and guiding new faithful, taking in more offerings, and holding more services.
Without look, Nevyne reached backwards and plucked a glass of champagne from a passing waitress, her movement so precise that the well-dressed serving girl did not even notice the absence of one more glass. She did not drink it, but instead examined it with a smile. Yes, even brewing was something of an art, even if it was not her domain directly. An artisan’s craft should always be appreciated as fully as possible.
She hummed a short laugh at Ku’s words. She could practically hear the gears turning in his head. She would gently inhale the scent of her drink before tipping the glass to her lips for a dainty sip. Mmm, mortals loved such weak drinks. At least the taste was as pleasant as the coloration indicated. “Hm-hmm. Kupi, dearest, are you causing trouble again?” She turned her head to him; not fully, but enough to where she could glance sideways to him. “I believe that is up to our dear friend-“ with the last word, she turned her piercing blue gaze to Daniel with a grin. “But I believe you are on to something, Ku. In any case, I’ll be watching the show.”
Her tone was light and playful, but she was more vested in Ku’s idea than she let on, even to him. Still, he knew her well, and probably could guess that for himself. She hoped it would be not only interesting, but fruitful.

“ YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT. “Scary as chasing around a guy with yer own face that want’s ta put a cap in yer head?” Daniel mused. “The others at the temple are a joy my compared to that. Besides—.” A flash of purple light flared briefly in the man’s eyes before fading away as if it never existed at all—an obvious, clichéd manifestation of his gift. “—ya never know what you can learn from someone when they sleep.” And it was fun to boot!
He turned his attention to Kupiec. “Sorry about not mentionin’ it earlier. Didn’t even know what it was until later.” The gravity of his gift was not lost on him, especially considering the God previous words. The priest and priestesses of Nevyne’s temple wasted no time impressing that notion upon him; hearing another deity say the same only reinforced it.
Daniel arched a brow when he heard the gibberish falling from his newest patron’s mouth. He wasn’t sure what language it was, but could still understand the meaning behind the words: they involved him in some fashion. He wasn’t sure how but he was being talked about, and Nevyne’s next statement all but confirmed it. His pride railed against being included in plans that he knew nothing about; then again, what else was new these days?
“Causin’ trouble seems to be a habit of mine lately,” he said. “I’m tryin’ not to let it happen here, but ya never know.” He straightened his tie. “Anyway’s, I’ll leave you two to enjoy the night. Feel free to stop me if either of you want to chat more, or have someone tell me to find you.”
He dipped his head again before making to move on. If either deity chose to stop him, he would oblige them but would otherwise continue with his patrol.
((OOC: No disrespect meant. Feel free to stop him.)
