Daniel adjusted his tie so that it wouldn’t rest so tightly against his throat. His old friend Oliver had called him up with a favor asking him to take his place on the security detail the hunters were providing for the royal ball this year. He’d said something about having planned on his own entertainment this year and was looking for an excuse to pursue it. Daniel didn’t ask what he meant by “entertainment”, but he had a hunch or two based on what he remembered about the man. Of course, he accepted; the pay was good and he still remembered liking the man, despite his. . . tastes. While he was grateful for the employment, he couldn’t help but to regret his decision to accept based solely on the fact that he would be in the presence of nobles and other important figures. For that simple reason, Daniel took a step away from his usual attire and had himself fitted for something a touch more… elegant. Now, all he had to do was avoid stepping on the wrong set of toes or offending the wrong person and he would be golden. The guards at the palace gates stopped him briefly to check for an invitation. One of them skimmed the decorative piece of parchment for a fleeting moment before nodding and standing to the side. His fellows heaved on the majestically decorated doors that opened a portal to a world of extravagance. Men and women dressed in intricate uniforms bearing the royal crest lined the walls on each side of an expansive hall leading further inside. Daniel walked past them without acknowledgement. They all had their jobs to do, and he had his. He eventually came to a desk behind which sat yet another set of royal guardsmen. One stood to pat him down while the other took the invitation again. This one—a woman that appeared to be in her late twenties—gave it a more through reading than her compatriot at the door. She stopped the one patting him down and indicated for him to read the letter himself. Then, they returned to their seats and slid a small glass tablet across the desk. “That will serve as your security pass for this evening,” the woman said. “It gives you the right to employ necessary methods to ensure the festivities remain peaceful and authorizes you to carry weapons so long as they remain concealed. is to be returned at the end of the night. Failure to return the pass is punishable as an act of subterfuge against the crown. Is that clear?” “As crystal,” Daniel confirmed. The woman nodded. “Remember that, and enjoy the festivities, Mister Caim.” Daniel nodded back before moving on. The night was young and there was a party to guard.

She'd been asked as a plus one by a friend of hers from military academy. She'd said yes for a few different reasons. Firstly, it was a party she wanted to attend. Partly because her friend looked fine with a capital F in a dress. Plus, the woman didn't want to be alone at the party. It was going with a friend. Nonetheless, Audrey knew the party was fancy so she'd invested in a few things. It had hurt her in her heart to spend so much money, but she supposed the things she bought weren't useless. She'd bought a suit to complement her friend's silky looking blue dress. Her duds weren't made of such fancy stuff, but she had to admit she kind of felt like a million bucks in the suit. She might start wearing this regularly. Nobody would think her an orphan if she wore it, right? A sharp business suit gave her an air of respect, or at least she hoped it would. In any case, she didn't look out of place at the ball, and part of the reason for that was her other expenditure. The synthskin. She'd bought synth skin for her bionics so she looked relatively normal. It was an upgrade she'd been meaning to get, but she'd been comfortable with what she had. Yeah, she'd had to put up with some discrimination because of it, but those sideways looks had never mattered as much to her. She'd been an outcast for a long time. Audrey realized she would have to get used to people just looking at her like any other woman with a sword. She proceeded to the door with her friend and was informed to leave all weapons at the door. Audrey nodded. She'd been told of this beforehand so she'd just brought a couple of knives. She didn't trust people with her sword. The knives she could stand to lose in a flurry, but she still felt better having brought a couple. Even if they were at the door. She was expecting more of a patdown than she got, but then she remembered she didn't look like a cyborg anymore. She straightened her tie and flexed her fingers in her black gloves with a smile, looking around the lavish foyer.

Notes OutfitObviously open-ended. Obviously anyone can approach Dully at any point; the whole thread is fluid time. Just flag her down as she meanders. | 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Dullahan spent the opening hours of the festivities like the rest of security; standing in the Grand Foyer, watching for trouble and suspicious activity. Dullahan wasn’t on watch-dog duty; that was the job of non-officers, such as hunters, police, and extra security. She frowned as that last one crossed her mind. It wasn’t necessary, and if fact could really only end up being trouble; the nobles never did anything to warrant security, and having to babysit hunters as well as ‘mercenaries’ meant her night was full of work. How the hell did Oliver get out of this one? She was the coordinator for tonight’s security, alongside another officer from the hunter’s guild. Her job was to watch the watchmen, so to speak, and unfortunately she would also have to engage with guests from time to time- “appearances” and so forth. At least she could stay in a suit rather than a dress; they’d have to kick her from her job before she’d put one of those on. It would be easy for people to spot her; she spent time talking into an earpiece, or greeting the occasional guest, or walking up to security and checking on their status. She was near the security booth when a man had just received his pass. Now… why was he so familiar… Ah, Oliver’s acquaintance, of course. She narrowed her eye; not out of anger or irritation for the man, but because she put two and two together and realized just how Wynters had avoided his duties at the ball. That sly son of a bitch. She sighed and resumed her stony expression. “Daniel, was it?” She said, approaching the man. “Agent Enthaupten, head of security for this event. You know Oliver Wynters, right?” Upon an affirmative answer, if given, she would nod. “That makes you about the only hired security here I trust. I’ll make this quick; nobility doesn’t cause trouble for us. Look out for anyone who may be carrying a weapon, and report suspicious figures- report. It’ll be all our heads if we cause a stir. Just go around and try not to offend anyone wearing expensive clothes. Enjoy.” She would stay for conversation if he wished to engage, otherwise, she would go back to her current duties around the Foyer. |

Time to party stand guard.
The suit was entirely too tight for Orion's liking, though probably not as awkward as the penguin suits that some of these walking banks were done up in. He'd chosen to volunteer for this guard duty because of the paycheck, not because he did well in ritzy settings. Still, a paycheck was a paycheck, and he had also badly needed to get off of Wynters' bad side. Orion's hair would never entirely lie flat, and he agreed with his father's opinion that most of these people were useless dandies who got most of their wealth handed to them, or got it by ripping off the poor people of the world. Having been one of those poor people, he didn't particularly appreciate that.
Still, his face was entirely neutral and professional as he adjusted the guns that were concealed by his black suit jacket. Oliver had told the Hunters that obtrusive weapons wouldn't be allowed, but Orion still had both of his pistols for the job, as well as some of the runes that he always kept handy. He would be able to handle anything that came along, even if the setting meant that he would have to be as gentle as possible. Any incidents would have far more consequences than there would have typically been, if this was a job out on the street.
He tugged at the collar of his suit, spotting Daniel and Dullahan. Orion wasn't overly thrilled that the Cyborg and government agent was in charge of him again, but at least he knew what to expect with her, whereas Wynters was a wild card who no one could anticipate. Walking over, he dipped his head to his unofficial mentor and turned his attention to the head of security.
"Only one, huh?" he said, frowning. "I'll try not to take that personally."
He wasn't surprised that she was wearing a suit, since that was the dress code for the guards, but he got some amount of fiendish entertainment imagining her wearing a dress. At least then she would have been as uncomfortable as he was in this ridiculous get-up.

Daniel stopped in his tracks when a sharply dressed woman acknowledged him. She didn’t bear the royal crest anywhere on her suit, so that ruled out the possibility of her being a member of the royal guard. The way she carried herself left little doubt to what she was though. Her bearing was borderline military and her cyclopean gaze scanned the area with intensity of a hawk on the hunt for mice. Her next few words confirmed at least one of his suspicions. “Agent Enthaupten, huh?” Daniel said. “Oliver said something about you bein’ here tonight. Daniel Caim. Me and Oliver were buddies back in my huntin’ days. He’s one of the few that I still keep in touch with.” He would offer his hand to the agent. If she took the proffered hand, he would grip hers firmly and give it a decisively strong shake; if not, he would instead use the hand to awkwardly adjust his tie again. “Thanks for that. Glad to see that someone’s got their head on straight here. Hopefully, the two of us can keep the young wolves they hired on from doing somethin’… stupid.” He would pocket his hands and take a glance around. “And don’t worry about me too much. I intend to keep as far away from trouble tonight as possible. Pissin’ of a noble or somethin’ ain’t exactly my idea of a good time.” He caught sight of Orion in his peripheral vision and turned just in time to receive a gesture of respect from the young man. “Glad to see ya here, young wolf. And I’m happy you aren’t too upset with the agent here. We can’t all be as good as me, but you’ll catch-up eventually.” The grizzled ex-Hunter offered Orion a smile along with the quip. It was all in good fun. Caroline Vorlan | @orion

These kind of suit and ties events wasn't his kind of thing in the slighest. However, it did get him out of Lasagna Thursday and he was perfectly fine with that. Oliver, on the other hand, was not thrilled with him but oh well. He would deal with that at a later time but it did seem like the other mildly enjoyed dressing him up like a freaking show pony. Lord knew how long it would take to wash out the amount of hair gel that kept a majority of his spikes down. A few luckily remained in place in a fashion he much perffered. Having lost his suit jacket to the back of a chair, River stood with his arms crossed over his chest, watching people enter the Grand Foyer with little interest. His eyes would scan them each quickly for any possible threat and then move along to the next. Ugh, this was utterly boring as watching paint dry. Again, he had to remind himself he did this for the money and to avoid Oliver for at least one day. Again, his eyes combed the area until it finally rested upon familiar faces. A sigh of relief flooded over him as he spotted Dullahan and Orion in the distance. Thank god there was someone here that he could probably follow like a lost puppy if he felt the need to hide for a bit. He smiled slightly in their direction. He had no intenion in bothering them just yet. He was all right with just being part of the wallpaper for the moment. A half a second later a tiny light bulb went off above River's head. Wait, wasn't there supposed to be food at this monkey event? Feeling a bit brighter and more active he twisted his head side to side to try and spy the food table. It had to be somewhere didn't it? Glancing around like the sneaky snake he could be at times he took a few steps backwards away from his post to venture around to locate said food table. They don’t know any better about how tame these events are.” She turned to Orion as he approached. Ah, seems he overheard her comment, though seemed to mistake what she meant. “Hired help as in mercenaries, Hunter Orion. I don’t consider members of the guild ‘hired help’ even if you are getting a bonus for it.” She stood with her hands behind her back, considering the two men while keeping an eye out for anything in the background. “I expect Hunters to fulfill their duties without trouble. That said, it’s a load off my mind that hunters such as yourself, Rivers, and Durant are here, even if Archaleos is in attendance as a guest rather than a guard; it’s the newer recruits I worry about; I’ve seen enough hotheadedness lately to warrant concern.” It only helped her opinion of Daniel to see that Orion was familiar with him; she was growing to trust Orion, given that he worked hard and proved himself consistently. “In fact, I want you to help me keep an eye on Umbrage, wherever she may be. If anyone’s going to accidentally piss off royalty, it’s her, and I won’t hear the end of it.” She nodded at the pair. “Speaking of, I should make rounds with the rest of security. Gentlemen.” With that, she walked off, leaving the two to converse or separate as they saw fit. It was a load off her mind that she had at least two responsible guards helping police the event. Unless interrupted by another guest or guard, she would then approach River, who was minus a suit jacket and looking for something. Probably a spot to nap. “River. Staying awake, I hope. [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] PLEASANTRIES Maevia had passed through without much difficulty; her fake invitation and identity were expertly crafted from Anansi himself, and security wasn’t interested in pissing off nobility by questioning their credentials. Still, she felt out of place, but did her best to look as though she belonged; it was all an act, just like the rest of her life… only she never performed in a dress before, and it was driving her mad. Were pockets too much to ask for? She wasn’t sure what to do with her hands. Her cybernetics were covered by her long-sleeved dress, gloves, and a showy eyepatch over her cybernetic eye. She kept her eye out in the foyer, looking for contacts, news… anything. She saw familiar faces- Daniel Caim, Orion Lorne, Enthaupten… Clearly they were all acquainted with each other. She avoided approaching that group; not many wished to make it clear that she was doing trades with them. No doubt Embry was here somewhere, and members of the University would also be in attendance. Everyone moved with such confidence here… She didn’t like this. Normally she was in control, but with so many foreign names and faces, she had to admit she was a bit lost. She wasn’t the only one, though; she caught sight of a young woman in a suit, who also looked unsure of herself. Perhaps not obviously, but Maevia could read people; she was no stuffy noble. Probably someone’s +1. Well… it was all about making connections tonight, was it not? With a fake smile, she approached the blonde woman. “First time at an event like this?” She would nod at whatever answer the woman gave, and then extend her human hand; her cybernetics were hidden from sight, but any idiot would feel the metal if she touched them with it. “I see. Audrey saw the woman approach. Didn't look like a noble. Audrey could be wrong, but she doubted she was, especially when the woman spoke to her. She nodded in answer to the woman's question and heard the introduction. She saw the hand extended and hesitated for a moment out of habit. People at things like this wouldn't like metal cybernetics. That said, Audrey remembered she'd gotten the replacements and that people wouldn't be able to tell. So she smiled instead and shook the hand that was offered. "Pleasure to meet you. I'm Audrey. Was invited by an old school buddy of mine." Victor's Military Academy surely counted as a school. It was more beneficial to Audrey for her to say school. She supposed people might shy away from academy goers a little bit. She'd rather not deal with that. "Sounded like a good party but she didn't want to have to go alone. Strength in numbers I suppose. I could understand where she was coming from." In a fight it was always better. Not that Audrey's companion would be very much help in a fight. A large dress would hamper her movement. Which was precisely why Audrey had come garbed in a suit. Much better range of movement. She looked the person before her over. Seemed extra thin. Audrey's mind also remarked on the light green hair. Unusual as far as she was concerned, but she supposed Fokradiin blonde could also be seen as unusual to some. Audrey also gave a cursory glance around her to check for people who had weapons and such. "Hmm." Hunters. No doubt acting as security to make sure magi didn't sneak in. Well that and to make sure people like herself didn't smuggle weapons in. She already missed her sword and long knife. Maevia Inclemens

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] FACADE Maevia regarded the woman, and her every movement. Her posture, her constant awareness of her surroundings… no doubt she was military. A military school, perhaps? Certainly some were prestigious enough to warrant encounters with nobility. Maybe she was brought on as a bodyguard. She decided it was best not to mention it; it was a guess at best, but she was rarely wrong in sizing up people. “Well met, Audrey. Strength in numbers,” she repeated with a small smile. “An interesting way to view a party. Was she expecting trouble? Though I suppose it’s always good to have a trusted friend to help get out of an unwanted conversation.” She stole a quick glance around the room, and saw a few familiar faces; Agent Enthaupten, doing her best to avoid looking at her… Ah, Daniel Caim and Mr. Lorne. How interesting that they were acquainted; she made a note of that. Otherwise, she was a bit lost at all the faces. She recognized many of the nobles and such, but only barely. How frustrating to not have all the cards for once. She turned back to Audrey. “So, are you and your friend from Ethea? I’m afraid I’m only familiar with some parts of it. Eisen is across the world, after all. I’m afraid I’m at a bit of a disadvantage here.” She laughed. It was easy enough to feign being of royal blood; she wanted to come across as one from a small family should- approachable, and out of place. The latter was easy enough, as she already felt that the moment she put on a dress. Notes OutfitObviously open-ended. Obviously anyone can approach Dully at any point; the whole thread is fluid time. Just flag her down as she meanders. | 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Her lips parted slightly in a silent sigh. Naturally, he was focused more on himself than his duty. As long as he was keeping awake, though, it didn’t matter. It wasn’t like anything was going to happen anyway. She had too much on her mind to worry about him; he stayed out of trouble, and that was all she wanted of the evening. “Not in the foyer, River,” she said. “It’s all in the great hall. Why don’t you go keep an eye on that area; with Oliver’s replacement here, we should have the entryway covered. Just… try not to make a scene. We’re security, not guests.” She turned to regard the foyer again; Caim and Lorne seemed to be getting along. And… wait, was that the information broker? What the hell was she doing here? She narrowed her eye, but made no moves otherwise. There were… many questions she had, but here, at the ball? No, she couldn’t afford to be any more distracted than she already was. She winced at a small head pain that came and went. “Keep an eye on Umbrage and the hired help; you’re one of the few here who knows what he’s doing. Report to me or one of those two,” she said with a wave of her arm at Daniel and Orion, “if you need to report anything.” With a nod, she moved on from River’s presence, no doubt he’d head to the food table unless interrupted. She stood with her arms behind her back, surveying and guests, and the security. |

Strange, this was the first human gathering Isabelle has been to that didn't involve violence for entertainment. Either way she was being paid to be here to protect the higher tier of society. Work was work and there was nothing to be ashamed for wanting to pay for the living expenses one should build up. Normally the android wouldn't had paid much attention to how she would dress, but both her employers and her family strained to convey the need for formal wear. Just how tedious did the act of guarding have to be when it was so simple. She looked back down from top to bottom reviewing her own attire. It was a rather business like suit that had a black and white color theme as white was the main color with the black lining out the intricate details of the suit. Plaid white pants, black dress shoes... A White vest with small black buttons to go along with her grey-ish white overcoat. Her visor remained covering her face as she stood as a stoic knight within the Hall.
Humans often valued appearances... A trivial matter, but it was one they were fond of in times that lacked the presence of conflict. Umbrage purposely chose not to interact with anyone that wasn't interested in interacting with her. Once they had taken in most of the guests, the android had considered taking in the sights of the balcony... Of maybe sneaking off to grab a bite. The food looked rather good... Ah well now was the time to analyze the guests. With her visor hiding her eyes it made it much easier look upon others without being suspected. So far they had the guards that seemed to know what they were doing were Dullahan, Orion, and some other elderly guy that just got here. Her eyes switch to her thermals to get a better view of which guests had cybernetics. It wasn't hard to spot cyborgs with thermals relative heat generated from the body compared to a cybernetic part was far easy to spot for her.
Weapons was rather a bigger issue for the android as she was known for carrying an assortment of weapons, but for this operation it required a lack of presence. Enough to provide the feeling of safety, but not so much to cause restless fear amongst the guests. She had opted to carry cane that doubled as an extendable staff. Nonlethal combat for anyone the would try anything within this crowd. However the advantages of a robotic body could easily change nonlethal to lethal. Normally she would had been more talkative amongst the hunters, but she was starting to sense a lack of connection.... Her only purpose for working for the hunters was for the money and nothing else. She did need to believe their cause, but she wanted to believe in someone that could have her back.
Isabelle spotted a few cybernetics here and there, but none of it seemed out of place for the most part. Even some blonde girl had them on her forearms. Taking a moment as she lets loose a sigh. Something was still scratching the back of her mind... An annoyance... She nearly had taken down the magi but didnt... Did she hesitate?
Shrugging off the thoughts she thought it would be best not to be around the other hunters. Knowing Dullahan well enough she didn't trust her. The job wasn't one that was emphasized as combat but more so security. After having actually seen the security of the palace it was made relevant that only the stupid or the desperate for attention would try to attack such an impregnable place. The visor helped to hide a sense of disgust she felt around the nobles that seemed to enjoy the excess of life... Maybe grabbing that bite as well as taking the food to that balcony would be a good way to start her break. Stepping away before anyone would notice she would begin her rounds within silence. It was going to be a boring night after all, so why not find some way to enjoy it.

[attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]@drew [attr="class","gold"]words [attr="class","gold"]notes: feel free to bug the herp-a-derp hunter ulla [attr="class","sun"]So Many Words Left Unspoken Blah, Blah, Blah, and Blah. Really, didn't Dully know how to just take it easy for a change? There really wasn't anything happening here at all other then people coming in and looking fancy. The man sighed softly as his amber eyes drifted towards the direction of the great hall. Of course, they would move it out that way and a bit out of his reach. Pushing his lips to one side, he made a face for a good half second before returning to a normal expression of neutrality.
He would be more then happy to be in the same area that had food. That way he could snack and watch everything from afar. It would be just perfect and they did have rather comfortable chairs that direction. Well, at least he hoped they would to say the least. "Got'cha. Yeah. Yeah, sure." An an amused smirk touched his features. "Heh, Oliver flew the coop. That's nice." No fear of running into him, perfect. Later, no so perfect...or would it be?
His thoughts were a bit uncertain on that aspect but what he was very certain was Umbridges name being mentioned. The mute man made a roll of his eyes and an exacerbated sigh. "You can't be serious, Dullahan." He sighed with a shake of his head. A quick glance would allow him to spot the girl. "I'm totally not babysitting that one." He gestured towards the current subject matter. A moment later, he noticed the other woman walking in. "Or that one..." Nope, can't do it. The stars were not aligned.
He was starting to wonder if Oliver's company would of been the better choice for the night. At least the bastard made him dinner now. Shaking his head, he looked at where she was pointing and then brightened by ten folds. Oh, Orion! He would totally report to him and probably just chill with him. That man was fun to be around and he wouldn't mind getting to know him more. Orion would be a pretty good friend, River was certain.
Giving Dullahan a small salute, he clacked his heels together for the mere fun of it. "Aye, Aye, Captain." He would probably get smacked for that later. He snickered lightly whens he finally moved away. As much as he wanted to mingle with the people he knew, well, he and that food table had a predetermined meeting to get too.
