“ The Righteous Side of Hell." It’d been a long time since Daniel could run a training session. Weeks of weeks of tedious planning and preparation were finally starting to pay off and—for once—he wasn’t stuck behind a desk helping to push it along. He was finally ready to run the first of many training sessions for the young wolves. The best part was having the authority to make sure that at least a few of them showed up.
Being an officer did have its privileges some of the time.
It’d been early in the morning when Daniel had sat himself on a bench in the largest training arena the guild complex had to offer. A plethora of weapons were laid out on clothes in front of him as he cleaned and examined them. He honed the edges of his blades, disassembled and cleaned pistols, and meticulously examined each piece of equipment he would normally carry with him on a mission. The task of preparing his weapons to perfection had occupied most of the past two hours and might have gone longer in not for the incessant alarm demanding his attention.
Daniel paused midway through cleaning Blackhammer’s barrel to look at his watch. Eight AM sharp; The young wolves should’ve started trickling in at any moment. He silenced the alarmed and reassembled his weapons with practiced expertise before placing them all in their respective holsters and sheathes. Then, he stood and strolled down the few steps towards the arena in the center, crossing his arms and turning to watch as the doors opened to admit the first arrivals. The old wolf took their measure as they filed obediently into their seats. Most of them were barely out of their teens by the look of them; fresh faced and inexperienced. That would have to change shortly if he was expected to bring down the casualties.
Easier said than done.
He waited until a good number of asses were in seats before taking a deep breath and speaking. “Alright, kiddos,” he began. “You should already know why you’re hear, right? You young wolves have been droppin’ like flies out there and it’s my job to make sure ya stay alive ta get old and crusty like, so let me be clear on this one. None of you pups are ready for real huntin’. Ya might think ya are, but ya’d be wrong. That’s gonna change, startin’ now.”
Daniel paused to scan those present, taking special note of the ones that snickered or rolled their eyes; they’d be the first examples.
“Any questions?”

[attr="class","tgg"] [attr="class","TheGreatGatsby"] Sanity It's just one side of the coin Helena had heard tell of a lesson for the younger hunters and it being open to hunter students as well. She thought it was probably a good idea to go. She could get some pointers about being a hunter, and also meet some better hunters as well. She strode into the place fairly confidently, her shoulders relaxed with her hands in the pockets of her black slacks. Chairs. Alright. She went to about the third row, stretching her arms behind her head before taking the double bladed glaive off her back and putting it next to her. Then she brought her feet up and sat crosslegged in the seat, glad she had decided to wear her black sneakers for a change that day. This was her preferred way to sit, regardless of whether there was a chair or not. Having to do it in chairs just helped her improve her balance. She listened to the guy as he spoke how none of them were prepared for actual hunting. How they thought they were but they weren't. Hel didn't know whether to roll her eyes or agree with the guy honestly.
She knew from first hand experience that even if you felt you were ready, you were never ready for what was ahead. You just had to prepare as best as you could. However, she thought she was probably sufficiently prepared. She was at the Hunter's Academy because they didn't think she was, but she had been training to be a mercenary since she was six years old. Magnus had trained her fairly extensively to that effect. She'd been a mercenary who was essentially on her own since she was fifteen. Just because she was seventeen didn't mean she was a rookie. That said, she still knew there were ways to improve. There were always things to learn. And that's why she didn't roll her eyes. What this hunter had to say could very well end up helping her out of a tough spot in the end. The man was asking for questions now. She knew some of the other people had snickered or rolled their eyes. He'd probably noticed that.
"What are you going to be teaching us so that we hopefully don't die as immediately?" She thought that was a good way to put it. She thought it was a good question too, even if it would be answered fairly quickly in his lesson plan most likely. [attr="class","mizocredits"]

Umbrage was tasked, scheduled, and ordered to strengthen her mental capacity for survivability. That's what the superiors said... she had more than enough ability to gauge and fight any magi that she was ordered to hunt down, but to her dismay she had been a rather poor team mate... Well more to the dismay of her fellow hunters rather than herself. There have been several times already that she could had faced death and so far she would rather do her best to increase her odds of leaving a fight unscathed. Natural prowess would only take her so far and the majority of her fellow hunters were nearly as capable as she was and were still being killed off by magi, spirits, and other forces that have yet to be identified. Isabelle soon followed the many others waiting outside of a lecture hall... or class... Isabelle had never had the need to step into one before, so upon entering she found it interesting that the architecture complimented the thematic of an intellectual school of thought. It mattered not on how the hunters attempted to make themselves appear as to their recruits, but the current lecture had gained a strong interest of hers. It was far more worrying the nature of the work that had them tip-toe around magi hunting and positive public appearances. Taking a seat at the back in hopes of avoiding any attention through out the lecture. Waiting and listening to his words as he spoke... a majority of the fellow hunters weren't taking the lecture all that seriously. On the field, the experience can be quite frightening... but it was far more obvious which of the people here had experience and who did not have experience. Hearing both the first question and its answer she reached out her hand. Something she observed students do in order to answer a question or gain the attention to state a question. Once the hunter had called upon she was quick to ask her questions. "I've read within my orders that you're a vet among the rest of us. Will this only be a lecture or some first hand practice? Secondarily... Can I call you Lt. Dan?" Her second question was more for self entertainment. Daniel Caim Alexandra Caim Hel/Hart

History won't When Daniel had made mention of training some of the newer hunters, Alex had of course made a mental note of it. However she hadn’t thought too much about it past that; her father had gone out of retirement and it was something he ought to do. That was that.
Then the riots happened.
Regardless of the fact Alex wasn’t a hunter per say, she’d insisted on going. If something like that were to ever happen again, Alex wanted to be better prepared. She’d already been taught, yes, but more training never hurt. Especially if it made a difference whether or not people lived.
However she hadn’t actually come with Daniel when he arrived. The girl was in desperate need of an early morning run to sooth her mind and keep it blissfully blank. So she’d simply gotten up even earlier while forgoing her usual (now even more frequent) late night beach visit simply so she could get in a good workout prior.
As the others filed in, so did she. It was probably easy for Daniel (or others) to spot her considering the sheer height of the amazon and her vibrant red hair. And since Alex wasn’t quite as intimidated by her father as some others might potentially be, she ended up sitting towards the front. Though she knew that this wasn’t going to be her Old Wolf speaking, but rather her instructor now. So while she flashed Daniel a small smile, she got focused fairly quick.
There were a few questions being thrown Daniel’s way. Two understandable and one…Wait. Did someone really ask that? Despite herself Alex felt the corners of her lips twitch upwards as she barely contained a snort. It was a pretty darn cheeky thing to be saying to their higher up but….damn if that didn’t come out of left field and nearly make the redhead giggle. Her. “Lt. Dan’s” daughter. Fortunately Alex managed to hold it in, but her eyes couldn’t help but flick between Daniel and semi-glancing behind her towards where the voice had come from.
Oh boy. Here we go.

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." Daniel locked eyes with the first person to field a question. He didn’t immediately recognize the . . . girl(?) . . . though he expected that she was one of the students at the academy. “You’re all going to learn the basics. Most of you can fight and some of you are pretty good. Thing is you don’t always work together like a pack is supposed to. A lone wolf ain’t gonna take down a stag without a shit ton of luck and most of the time they’ll end up dead.” He scanned the gathering of young faces with a hawkish eye, picking out the ones that seemed to think they were the exception. They were the ones that would get people killed before dying themselves.
His gaze was quickly drawn to the raised hand and the face of the one it belonged to, an android or hosted human by the look of it. He pointed by way of acknowledgement and permission to ask her question. Daniel almost immediately regretted it when a few of the attending hunters started laughing. The faintest twitch marred his features as he glared death at the culprits before returning his attention to the cyborg.
“First answer: it’s gonna be me talkin’ at ya for the most part. Second answer: not here, not now.” The old wolf might’ve been reasonably okay with it anywhere else, but not when he was in the middle of a lesson. As a matter of fact, it might’ve been time for the first lesson.
“Now that we’ve got that out of the way, anyone here think I’m full of shit?” Daniel asked. He scanned the group until he found some smug little punk that had the gall to smile and raise his hand. “Really? Well, why don’t’cha come down here and prove it?” The bark of a laugh could be heard as he stood and moved through the rows. Daniel was in the process of rolling his neck when the kid charged him with a fist raised to attack. The old wolf smiled wryly as he stepped calmly to the left, stuck his foot out, and caught his young opponent by his waist and the back of his neck and helped him on his trip to his backside.
“So, who want’s ta tell me what he did wrong?”

[attr="class","tgg"] [attr="class","TheGreatGatsby"] Sanity It's just one side of the coin Hel put a hand to her mouth to muffle the laughter at the question about calling the officer Lieutenant Dan. She looked around the audience and noticed the tall redhead fairly quickly. They sort of stood out, especially since they'd chosen the first row of their own volition. She listened as the guy spoke about how some were good, but how they didn't work very well together and she rubbed the back of her neck. Yeah she and Hart were both guilty of that. They lacked teamwork unless it was a life or death situation. They both had very different views on things. They were two different people after all, even if they shared an upbringing. Even the upbringing was shaky though honestly. Then she watched as the officer singled out one of the guys who wasn't taking him seriously. Asked him to attack, and then brought up the question of how they'd screwed up. Helena smiled to herself, raising her hand before continuing with her answer.
"He charged. Charging can seem like an option to catch people off guard, but in reality it just means your opponent has more of your momentum to take advantage of. You can't stop moving on a dime when you're charging, but your opponent has that option, and can then get you in the back once you've been dodged. The principles of martial arts like Judo are based around taking advantage of momentum. In my opinion, you only charge if you're cornered." Like a rat, she wanted to add. However she thought that might be interpreted as rude, and she was only a student. She thought that was a satisfactory answer. Maybe she wouldn't shame the Hunter's Academy despite Hart's best efforts to seemingly sabotage their life. [attr="class","mizocredits"]

It was quite disappointing that the old man didn't like the name to begin with, but she found humor to help aid in the darkest of the situations. However the old man just seemed to make everything just far more tense than she would had cared for. Resting her on the table as she took the moment to just turn off her eyes. It's not like anyone would be able to tell. With her sound receptors functioning perfectly well, she was very glad to hear the few snickers and laughs that her question produced from the class… however if this was just gonna be a lecture then her eyes wouldn't need to be in use for most of it. It wasn't until he mentioned a first lesson and the arrogance of the first person to reply in such a manner. It wasn’t too hard to predict how this was gonna end, but watching the student get his ass kicked was something she wouldn’t miss. Reactivating her eyes she raises her head and begins to examine the attempted assault on Daniel. It was a simple attack as Umbrage had observed the student charging at him, it was stupid of him to open up with a charge without a means to follow up with his attack. It was very interesting to see the old man move subtly out of the direct path of the student. Only to redirect the young man’s momentum. Interesting… When it came down to answering what went wrong in the assault, Isabelle took time to wait for a few answers before giving herself the opportunity to answer. “If I may interject, but his biggest mistake was not taking you seriously. So long as he wasn’t considering this as a life or death situation, he might as well have died three times in that one interaction. As for him charging, that is a subjective situation. If he had the skill or strength to follow up the charge then it might have been a smart choice, but he telegraphed what he was about to do as he charged. Especially in the moment he raised his hand, it exposes which side he would swing his fist. Giving you more than enough and idea on how to dodge… In short, he was arrogant in his own ability, unskilled enough to telegraph his attacks, and didn’t have the knowledge to follow up his attack.” Isabelle spoke bluntly as she gave a quick glare at the idiotic human that was rising on his back. “If he were to continue like this he would be the first to die within his group.” Isabelle herself was reckless, but as far as her peers were concerned she was expendable… such is a machine. History won't Fortunately her dad didn’t react badly to the joke. That Alex was still trying to keep herself from chuckling out. Unfortunately someone actually raised their hand when Daniel asked his next question. And promptly got owned.
Well kid, I mean, what exactly were you expecting?
Alex listened in while Daniel asked the other young hunters what exactly the foolish one had done wrong. Frankly a bunch of different points came to the redhead’s mind. However most of the others stated what Alex was thinking. He’d chosen to charge when, really, he should have exercised more caution in approaching someone who’d certainly had more training. Building off that (or perhaps causing that) the young hunter clearly hadn’t taken Daniel seriously. or, really, shown much skill even in the attack itself. All good points her fellow observers had. So Alex didn’t feel like she had to add her own observations so much as build off the others.
”She has a point.” Alex said after raising her own hand and eventually getting called on. ”Being so reckless and charging in while not taking his opponent seriously won’t only get him killed first. It could completely jeopardize anyone else he was teamed up with, since they would have to make up for his mistakes and possibly fight an enemy with one Hunter down. Which could potentially end up dooming the rest if the enemy was more than slightly competent.”
Was she making a small shot towards the idiot who’d challenged her father? Ok, maybe. But what she said also DID have actual implications. If someone as reckless as this young blood was stuck in a group to go up against a big target like a Spirit, his rash actions could cost an entire team’s worth of lives.

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." Daniel tried hard not to smile when he heard a few good answers coming from his students, especially when he heard Alexandra chime in with her own sassy little rebuke. At least a few of them understood what was going on.
“Gold star for the three of ya,” Daniel said. “He charged in without a plan, without knowin’ what he was up again, and he got his ass kicked for it. That’s something that would’ve gotten him killed in the field and probably his team too. It ain’t gonna fly here anymore.” The young man rose to his feet during Daniel’s monolog and charged yet again. Daniel turned easily on his feet and leveraged his knee into the young wolf’s gut. The air rushed out of the kid’s lungs as he doubled over and covered his stomach. He wasn’t allowed to have even a moment to catch his breath.
Daniel followed his first attack with a brutal hammer fist to the back of the young wolf’s skull, dropping him to the floor with a meaty thud. “Second lesson: never try attackin’ someone you know for a fact is better than you. Tryin’ ta prove yourself is another way ta end up dead, and you ain’t any use ta anyone as a corpse.” He waited a few moments to see if the kid would get back up, then knelt to check his pulse when he didn’t. Thankfully, he was still alive, though he likely had a concussion; that was going to be some fun paperwork to fill out.
“Pop quiz, kiddos. What do ya do when you’re a man down on mission?”

[attr="class","tgg"] [attr="class","TheGreatGatsby"] Sanity It's just one side of the coin Hel heard the officer confirm that the answers he received were good ones. She didn't smile, but it was damn near close. She was pleased they had gotten it correct. Then she watched as the guy tried again and got the breath knocked out of him. Hel rolled her eyes. The young hunter was a moron it seemed. Either that or he was masochistic. Helena wasn't the type to judge peoples' fetishes but damn she was gonna judge this guy for it all she liked. He was being stupid. You didn't keep attacking the officer just because your pride was injured. Pride was never a good way to operate. Having pride in what you did was perfectly fine, but it could also seriously impair someone's judgment in certain situations.
The kid didn't get up and Helena wasn't really surprised. That said, even if the guy had a concussion he couldn't possibly lose any more brain cells. The guy had obviously lost all that he could afford to already. She heard the officer speak and ask a 'pop quiz' question. She raised her hand before answering.
"Assess the enemy's skill level and beat a retreat to save the skins of everyone else involved." No sense getting everyone killed just to save pride. Pride was one of the seven deadly sins. They were deadly for a reason. Falling because of pride was definitely possible, and also definitely something to avoid. Besides if you assessed the enemy's skill level you would come back to the Hunter's Guild with valuable information on the target. The target wouldn't be dead, but information gathering was also an important step. [attr="class","mizocredits"]

It was nice to hear a confirmation of her knowledge from an experienced hunter. A sense of satisfaction she was only vaguely familiar with. Umbrage couldn't help but smile from the hunter's words. Although when she further observed Caim's movements she noticed that he was pressing down on the young hunter quite a bit. Although the student had been stupid to get himself into this situation. It was concerning that the student quite likely suffered some sort of brain trauma, after all he probably didn't have much brain cells left to spar. The idea had honestly amused her and she couldn't help to snicker about the idea. His words seemed to echo within her mind, as she thought on the possible threats that could easily destroy her. The many spirits and the few deities that can cause a change in society with simply their presence. The idea continued to annoy her as she rested her head once again on her desk. Peering up with only her eyes visible to keep herself connected. When the old wolf posed the question of what they were to do should one of their comrades should fall. Although it was obvious on what to do... she had already experienced such a thing when the dead rose in Camlorn. Lifting her head once more she spoke her answer "I've some limited time with a team, but the first answer is for the most part correct. However the allotted time one would have to assess is quite little. You would have to make a split decision... From my experience it isn't uncommon to leave other hunters to die, especially if a rescue attempt would only cause more casualties." She spoke coldly knowing fully well that several of the hunters have abandoned her during a hunt... "I'm sure you agree that an incapacitated ally can be far more harmful than a dead one. Especially if those on the team on close to the specific hunter. It's a dark subject to think upon, but it is reality." She rested her head once more attempting to read the crowd of students. A few faint whispers seemed to hint at a sense of fear from her presence or of the job entirely. That fear might serve them well if they have doubts about becoming a hunter. Hesitation would only lead to a painful death for both them and the team they burden. Alexandra Caim Daniel Caim Hel/Hart
