[attr="class","slowlyrics"]I can just hear them now [attr="class","slowlyrics1"]How could you let us down? [attr="class","slowbod"] Backdated to two weeks after the nightmare event and before the ball eventToday was the day .Today was the day that the Anderson Family was officially burying the youngest son. The whole family had turned out for the service, it was an extravagant affair, as was the Anderson way. It had taken two weeks for the Hunter’s to conclude their investigation and release the body to the family. The entire time had been agonizing to everyone in the family, as none really knew the specifics of how Jasper had passed, save Kelri, but she wasn’t going to say anything. Not yet. Instead she would have to live with the guilt. Kelri knew she could have saved her brother, but she knew she couldn’t express that to anyone. The closest she had gotten was a meeting with Daniel. She had asked him to... make sure they didn’t find the girl easily. It was a job, and she was paying him for it. Quite well I might add. This wasn’t her parent’s money, but her money. She wasn’t going to ... dishonor her parents like that. She knew it probably wasn’t what he was used to, but she trusted him enough to not...spoil the magi’s location. It hadn’t been a good two weeks for her family. Her mother had been fraught with worry, and the young baker had temporarily moved back home to be with her family in their time of need. Which meant that she had closed the bakery for the better part of two weeks. It wouldn’t bode well for her sales, but her family came first, especially when their grandmother called everyone home. You didn’t say no to a summons from Grandmother. The time had gone painstakingly slow, but Kel had made good to her promise to Nevyne. As much as she had prayed to Tatara for her brother’s soul, she had also begun to visit the temples of the Goddess of Dreams. She was learning a bit more than she had known before, but she still only wished for her brother’s soul to be taken care of and for him to move on peacefully. Knowing her brother, and if he knew she had given his chance to be brought back to a magi, it was likely he wouldn’t go peacefully and would fight the God of reincarnation forcefully. Jasper always was a fighter. The Tuesday was rainy. The Anderson’s family and friends were in the halls of the dead, where all of Tatara’s ritual cleansings took place. Those that had been invited would see the ceremony before them, and realize that after the body had been cleansed spiritually, the body would be cleansed by fire. The ashes would then be carried out into the outskirts of the city, where the planting would take place. It was a tradition in the family to plant the ashes of a loved one in the base of a tree. It symbolized the regrowth and rebirth of the soul. On this rainy dreary day, the Andersons would be planting a Cypress Tree. It would grow on the plot that her family had purchased a long time ago, and would be protected. It only reminded Kelri of how all life was sacred, and all life was meant to be protected. After the tree had been planted, The Anderson Family would start to disperse, and be left to mingle among themselves and friends. Many people had turned out. It was rare to lose one of their own so young. The setting tense and emotions rang out in the echo of the atmosphere. Kelri could hear her mother crying and her father lightly consoling her. The brothers were standing around mostly silent, taking time to recognize the moments that they would lose with Jasper gone. Her eldest sister would stand next to her mother and father. The picture of composure. Kelri would move a little away from the patch where they had planted Jasper’s ashes, and stand under the tree of her great great grandfather, smoothing out her dress. A Willow tree. How fitting that branches seemed to weep, as was most of the people here. Kelri would lean against the tree and try not to cry. It was best to keep up appearances after all. Her mother had warned er not to embarrass the family, and she wouldn’t. Especially not with Grandmother there. Letting out a long sigh, she looked up towards the sky and shook her head. “I’m so sorry my beloved brother, I know this is my fault. I hope you can forgive me.” [attr="class","slownotes"] words:749 notes: Okay, so. This is the Funeral for Kelri's Brother Jasper. If you knew him, or know the Anderson Family, you are welcome to come to the funeral. Obviously, if you don't want to participate, that is fine as well. This thread will likely just be free form interaction between people who are here. As well as it will eventually move to the Anderson Home in Felici for food after. Let me know if you have any questions. This happens a few weeks before the holiday ball, and a two weeks after the nightmare event. tag:Embry Delacroix , Caroline Vorlan , Daniel Caim , Archaleos Durant , @orion, @talia and anyone else who thinks they would come ^^, credit[googlefont=Open Sans Condensed] [newclass=.slowbod]font-size:10px;text-align:justify;padding:20px;background-color:#e3e3e3;margin:25px;border:1px solid #d0d0d0;color:#131313;[/newclass] [newclass=.slowlyrics]font-size:15px;font-family:Open Sans Condensed;text-transform:uppercase;background-color:#131313;color:#eaeaea;padding:5px;width:170px;[/newclass] [newclass=.slowlyrics1]font-size:15px;font-family:Open Sans Condensed;text-transform:uppercase;background-color:#d0d0d0;color:#131313;padding:5px;width:170px;margin-top:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.slownotes]font-size:10px;text-align:center;padding:20px;background-color:#e3e3e3;margin:25px;border:1px solid #d0d0d0;color:#131313;[/newclass]

| 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Dullahan was silent through most of the ceremony, as one would expect from the stony woman. Even she, someone whose emotions were as muted as raindrops on cotton, could feel the somber atmosphere and intense sorrow that hung like a dense fog. Her entire family was practically one with the Andersons, and so were all in attendance. Her father stuck with Jasper’s parents for conversation and consolation. Her sister, Nadia, and brother-in-law Saeed were mingling about with the rest of the family; her sister had a large umbrella propped up over her wheelchair. And finally, Dullahan’s young niece and nephew, Farah and Vidal, did their best to behave as two energetic children could. They ran around, but were overall respectful of their volume. The rain pitter-pattered off the hydrophobic suit she wore, and cascaded off her false hair without damping it, thanks to the hydrophobic spray treatment (at Nadia’s request). She felt… lost when the ceremony took to conversation. Most avoided her, knowing they wouldn’t get much out of her, but she did pay some words to Kelri’s brothers, sister, and parents. She knew Jasper well… or, she had thought. He was a good hunter, but his name came up several times lately, all trouble- the trafficking investigation with Talia was the most prominent in her mind. No need to hide the file now. She gave a narrow glance to her father, who was wrapped up in his own conversations; had he been involved in this? If so, she wasn’t sure if she could forgive him. It was then she saw Kelri, standing alone underneath the large willow. It wasn’t like her to take off by herself… No doubt this was tearing her up. Nobody cared about family more than she did. Without thinking, she found herself walking directly towards Kelri. When she got there… she wasn’t sure what to say. She had no idea how to comfort another person, but if nothing else, she could be a presence so the young woman wouldn’t be left by herself. “Kel,” she started after a short pause. She glanced sideways at the throng of family and friends. “How are you … holding up?” |

“ YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT. Daniel stuck to the back of the crowd throughout the ceremony, somber and respectfully silent. He’d heard of one of his former student’s sudden death barely a week after his ordeal in Nevyne’s realm. The Goddess had gone on a spree of trapping mortals in Her realm and toying with them for her own amusement. Dozens of Her ‘guests had gone to sleep one night never to wake again. He’d been one of the lucky ones, and so had Kelri for that matter. She told him about how she viewed her brother’s dream, how he and a magi girl had been lost in a vast desert, and what had become of the young man. She told him about her concern that the magi Jasper had been seeing at the time would be endangered from the Guild and asked him to keep the girl safe. He somehow felt that he wasn’t getting the full story, but he didn’t press for details. The fact that Jasper was seeing a magi was already scandalous enough for the Andersons should it ever become public knowledge; he didn’t even want to consider what would happen if it did. What he did know for certain was that certain details about the ordeal made him feel… disappointed.
Disappointed in Jasper for what he was doing; disappointed that society and the threat of Hunters made it necessary to hid the girl; but most of all, disappointed in himself for not teaching the boy better.
So, it didn’t take much in the way of convincing for him to take on the task. He was even willing to do it for gratis, but Kelri was insistent that she pay him. He took the money reluctantly, if only to help the girl on her way. If anything, he should’ve been grateful to Kelri for the opportunity to further redeem himself.
Now, Daniel was just mingling with the rest of those attending the funeral. Despite everything, Jasper had been one of his students and a brother. And he was still a good kid at heart; grossly misguided, but still good. He had half a mind to comfort Kelri, but stopped when he noticed that someone was already attending to that task. A sad smile crossed his lips as he altered his course and made towards the elder of the two brothers he’d trained.
“Fletcher,” he called as he drew close. “It’s been a long time, young wolf.” He held out his hand for the other to take. “Sorry about Jasper; he was a good kid.”

» Hadiyya had arrived late to the ceremony; they weren’t really her scene, and all she would do is stand around in awkward silence. Not only that, but for once, she took the time to get ready for the day; she chose her nicer clothes, which were still nothing fancy, but for those who saw her on a day-to-day basis would be surprised that she could look presentable; brushed hair, barely-wrinkled clothes… She was the most underdressed person at the event by a mile, barely qualifying as “business casual,” but it was the best she could do. Normally, she wore her lab coat to protect her from the elements, as it was hydrophobic material… but even Diya knew wearing white to a funeral was a bad call. She only cared because it was for a friend, so instead she wore a simple long-sleeved buttonup (minus the buttons, after many years) over her shirt, and brought an umbrella with for the rain.
She was there a few minutes before they dispersed for conversation, and Diya wasn’t sure what to do with herself. I mean, she knew enough of the family, having been friends with Anna and Kelri for years. But Kelri was off by herself, and looked like she already had a tough-looking woman for company already. She’d say hi to her later… which left…
With a sigh, she would walk towards Annalyse, who stood firm near her parents, with trepidation brought on by awkwardness. Shit, what do you even say? She hadn’t really talked to Anna since she became a professor. They were different now, years of friendship fading fast under the rift caused by her ‘promotion.’ Even now, Anna was standing like a statue, composed and expressionless, just like back at the uni. Thank gods she was above the classes she taught. She scratched the back of her head and avoided eye contact off to the side.
“Uh, hey there, Anna,” she said. “Er, Professor, I mean. Sorry, still a habit, y’know? Even if it’s been awhile since we really talked.” She mumbled an awkward laugh. Hell… this was weird, right? It felt weird. Oh, fuck it. With a sigh, she looked her old friend in the face. “Ah, damn. Anna, I’m sorry about Jasper. This sucks. I know you’re a tough woman but how you holdin’ up?”

Kelri would look at over as Caroline approached. She would give her friend a small smile, but wouldn’t say anything until the other would. She knew conversation was sometimes hard for the other. This would be a very long day, wouldn’t it? She kept her eyes low and tilted her head. “Okay.” The one word would sound hoarse and scratchy, a stark difference from her normal sweet tone. This was not a time to be celebrating, it was a time of mourning and she would act as such. After all, everything that had happened today, the funeral, the tree planting, that was her fault. “How about you?” She would give a sideways glance over to the cyborg and hold out her hand. She knew Caroline had been like a big sister to her brothers in the guild. If Caroline decided to take it, she would give a squeeze in confidence.
The other hunter brother would be standing with the rest of his family, when the retired hunter approached. He would take a moment to form his response but give a grimace upon the man’s approach. “It certainly has been a long time sir.” All elder men would be called sir, and the younger hunter knew that the man standing before him was a much more experienced and well-taught mentor. The young hunter would nod in response to the hunter, and would stare up at the rain that was falling down. The Anderson family had to keep up appearances, and as such Fletcher was not supposed to have emotions mostly. Expectations were high for the only hunter left in the family. “Damn Magi... tempting him.” A scowl would appear on the hunter's face, and it was evident that Fletcher was not happy with how his brother had died. For now, Daniel could see the seething anger that lingered on the Anderson hunter.
The eldest sister of the Anderson crew was standing silently, keeping her composure beside her mother. She was frowning and was in a generally bad mood. It might have been the rain, it might have been the fact that one of her arms was draped over her shoulder, and it might just have been the way her mom was sobbing. However, when one of her former classmates approached, she would raise an eyebrow. “Hello Diya.” The response would be formal and short. Annalyse was trying to keep her mother quiet and put together. At her words the woman would step away from the mother and move Diya of a slightly more separate space. “It has. Classes have kept me busy.” There were other things keeping the eldest sister busy, but she wasn’t allowed to talk about it. Diya would see her rubbing her shoulder with a grimace, though no explanation would be given. When questioned though, Annalyse’s face would contort into a small smile. Diya would know it had been a while since she had been talked to that way. “He was always...” Diya would see the eyes narrow and her tone shift, “foolish.” It was evident from her tone that Annalyse would have had a judgment of her younger brother.

| 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Dullahan’s mouth twitched into a sort of frown. She wasn’t okay, that much was clear. How could she be? Kelri was very open about her love for her family, and those whom she considered such. That included her. “I’m fine,” she said, with much more confidence than Kelri had said her own feelings. Dullahan was fine; sure, Jasper was someone she was familiar with, both as a mentor and superior officer. But knowing what he was involved in… well, truthfully, his death made her job a lot easier with regards to the police, and other internal investigations. She was not here for him; she was here for Kelri. She considered the offered hand briefly. Comfort. Kelri needed comfort. She took her hand and gave an equal squeeze in return. The sound of tiny footsteps pitter-pattering on wet grass drew her eye for a moment. The kids ran around after one another, mostly quiet save for a soft giggle. She turned back to Kelri, catching her downtrodden expression behind a brave face. Just like the kids when they were hurting, or sad, or afraid. She stood in silent contemplation for a moment, before doing something unexpected. She gently pulled Kelri to her in a close hug, releasing her hand and putting an arm on her back, and one on the back of her head. She let the shorter woman rest her head against her chest or shoulder, and kept the hug firm. “You’re not fine,” she stated, though there was an unusual softness to her voice. Perhaps one could even describe it as somber. “Emotions are… precious. Don’t hide them.” She knew her own were messed up, gone, or… “suppressed,” according to the broker’s information. She had envy of those who could feel, those who were still human… she couldn’t even remember what it was like to have a full, functional range of feelings. It was something often taken for granted by people. And she knew her family would watch her behavior, which is why she kept her back to the rest of the gathering, shielding Kelri from their gaze, so that perhaps she may find a small bit of peace and a breather from the emotional fighting she endured to keep up her brave face. |

»Diya shifted uncomfortably. Many emotions ran through her in this short time; it was so strange to talk to Anna now, like she was a different person- stiff and professional. Where was the friend that Diya had convinced to let her hair down once every now and then? The one who helped her conduct less-than-approved experiments in the lab after class hours? Her fingers curled up in fleeting anger; she felt betrayed, as if she had chosen a comfy university life over her good friend. With a breath out, she relaxed the tension in her body. This wasn’t the place, nor the time. Hell, it never was.
“Guess they would,” she said with a noncommittal shrug. She tilted her head slightly at the rubbing of her shoulder. Was Anna feeling nervous or awkward now, too? That’d be something. She smiled when Anna did; maybe there was some of her old friend under that professor exterior after all. She looked over to the planted tree. The gentle breeze combed through her long hair, lifting it for a moment before letting it float back down. She felt goosebumps on her skin, but whether it was from the wind or Anna’s rather cold reaction to her brother’s death, she couldn’t tell.
“Foolish, huh?” She said. She didn’t know him well; really she was only familiar with the ladies of the Anderson family (given that two were with the University and Kelri was just plain fun), but she had at least met the brothers. It was hard to feel sympathetic for a hunter, so she nodded. “Guess so. Doesn’t make it any better, though. ‘sides,” she said, turning back to Annalyse, and lowering her voice. She knew how her family was about ‘appearances’ bullshit, as if crying at a funeral was some sort of damn crime. “You didn’t answer my question, Anna. How are you holding up?”

“ YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT. Daniel forced himself not to scowl at the young wolf standing before him. That same hatred the rest of the Guild had fallen into was evident in every word. He couldn’t blame the kid. After all, part of the hate was a result of his own inability to properly teach him; what’s more, he was grieving for a brother that was dead because of the actions of some magi that he’d never even met, something that he’d train most of his life to kill. Daniel could allow the young wolf some leeway when he took those things into consideration, even if his proffered hand was ignored. The hand rose to Fletcher’s shoulder and rested there, squeezing and comforting.
“I know yer angry, young wolf, but you can’t let it get the better of you, ya hear? Gettin’ angry is the best way to get killed.” He spared a glance in Kelri’s direction—wrapped as she was in a woman’s comforting embrace—before turning a gaze that had an edge of hardness on Fletcher. “Kel’s already lost one brother. Don’t make it worse by doin’ somethin’ to get yerself killed.” Especially not when I might have to be the one to do it. The last part was added in silence, away from the perceptions of anyone but mind-readers. He knew well enough what would happen if Fletcher ever caught wind of where his brother’s supposed murderer was hidden. If it ever came to that, it was likely Daniel would have to interfere, which was liable to end in more death.
He didn’t want that on his hands.

The much delayed reply. xD
Another dead Hunter. Damn it, the Hunter's guild was in serious trouble these days, with so many of the recruits dropping dead. The Magi had never exactly gone quietly, but now they were ambushing off-duty hunters in their sleep, and these funerals were getting more and more common. He wouldn't have even gone, since he didn't know the guy, but Kelri had asked him to come, and he had to stay to support her while she was grieving. What surprised him was the other people who were here. Dullahan was apparently counted among Kel's friends, and even Daniel knew the family, though it seemed he was more familiar with the father than he was with the siblings, who were closer to Orion's age. Orion himself only knew Kelri, though he'd been greeted by name by the other Hunter brother, who apparently knew his name, even if Orion didn't know the brother's name.
Standing under an umbrella in a more formal suit, he watched the proceedings without much expression. Funerals always reminded him of his mother, and it didn't put him in a particularly good mood. The fact that this could very well be his own funeral made it even worse. Something had to be done about the Guild's training, or there would be none of them left soon. His eyes followed Daniel as he thought about it, knowing that the old wolf would agree with his thoughts. He seemed to be talking with the other brother, who was understandably upset.
Orion walked over, not daring to head over to Dullahan and Kelri. He would talk to Kelri later, if Dullahan wasn't hanging around like a deadly rain cloud. He caught the tailend of the man's remark. Something about the Magi tempting him? So the rumors were true? He wouldn't have wanted to do him the dishonor to think that they were true, but apparently there was truth to them. He would never understand the allure that some humans had toward the Magi. Didn't they see the animal features and realize how disturbing and unnatural it would be, to be attracted to one? But he said nothing. That was the last thing that the family needed to hear now, when they were trying to grieve.
"The Hunters were always meant to hunt together," Orion said, glancing back at Daniel. "Otherwise, we end up dead. Something to remember, moving forward."

[attr="class","slowlyrics"]I can just hear them now [attr="class","slowlyrics1"]How could you let us down? [attr="class","slowbod"]
Kelri’s voice might have cracked just a little at Dullahan’s frown. She wasn’t very good at lying was she. Oh well, she hoped that her friend would understand. This was hard for her to comprehend, and she wasn’t going to give any more information away than she already had. She appreciated her friend and the fact that she had even come. Even if their families were close it wasn’t expected that they would come, yet Caroline had. She would be eternally grateful.
Kelri’s soft sad smile was frozen in fear when Caroline advanced further, wrapping her in a hug. This was not something that she did. Caroline hated other people touching her. She hated it, and she wasn’t going to get anywhere, and the fact that she had initiated a hug? Wow. Kelri figured she must have been really bad at lying. “I….” There went her voice again. She would turn her face into the other womans' before taking her shaking balled up fists and hitting them against the womanl ightly. “Stupid. I’m so stupid. Why are you hugging me?” The thoughts would come out of her mouth fast and without monitoring, “I was trying to be fine and then you went and hugged me and I can’t handle it ‘cause you never hug me and I don’t know what to do and I…” The words would trail off as she began to cry into her friend’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry Caroline.”
Eventually her cries would subside and she would sniffle into her friend's shoulder. “I can’t believe one of your rare hugs happened while I was crying.” Kelri would make a pouting face and shake her head. “Of course it would be when I’m being horrible.” She would take a long shaky sigh before she looked to the rest of the group. “Thank you. Thank you so much Caroline.” The woman would offer a small smile to her. “If I don’t go over and say hi to the others, and thank them, my mother will be on me later.” Caroline would understand just how Kelri’s mother could be, and would understand the importance of meeting with everyone. “Thank you so much, I know you tried your best to watch out for him. I’m sorry he was stupid and got himself killed.”
Kelri’s eyes would flash for a moment before she looked down. “Thank you,” would be her words before she headed off to see the other people.
The eldest Anderson sister was hurting. In more ways than one. She wasn’t allowed to say much, and even thinking it was hard on her. She was coping, but when faced with someone who was free, who wasn’t bound, that was hard. She had known Diya from their time together in the university. She had a bright mind, and an even more brilliant application of the olden language in practice. It was a shame she didn’t take it seriously, and as a professor she was required to be curt with the young woman.
Annalyse would give a curt nod to her former classmate. “I’m sure they have been keeping you busy as well.” She would give a small smile, reminiscent of how she used to be. “What year are you on now?” She gave a small chuckle. “Always a student eh?” She wasn’t going to push the matter but she had used to do this before the tattoo became her life. Diya would be used to the teasing, but it hadn’t happened in a long time. There wasn’t much time for teasing when you were doing things that couldn’t be mentioned in polite society.
The small smile that had graced her face a moment earlier would delve further into a scowl. Her youngest brother had been foolish. He had been caught with his sins, and they had made him turn up dead and devastate their mother. It was never a good thing to upset their mother. “Quite foolish, yes.” The woman would give a curt nod before staring at the other brothers that were in a group. Then of course her former classmate asked the question that she really didn’t want to answer. Annalyse took her time before meeting Diya’s gaze with a response, “I am holding up. Mother isn’t.” Soon enough this funeral would be done, and they could move on. It was only hopeful.
It really could be seen that Fletcher was angry. The hunter was an angry ball of angst and rage. He wanted to do something, and right now all he was allowed to do was grieve. Magi were at the fault here, and they all deserved to be sacrificed to the God of the hunt. They were nothing more than animals and prey. Of course he would be doing something. He would be finding magi and taking his revenge for his baby brother. That was going to happen, one way or another.
Fletcher raised an eyebrow at the words coming out of his once mentor. Did he not understand that the magi needed to pay for this indiscretion? “I’m not getting angry.” He smirked looking over at the man. “I’m going to get even.” At the mention of his sister he rolled his eyes. “Kelri will live, and I’ll make it up to her by taking out those damn magi.” After all, they were the cause of this problem. He had already started devising a plan for his revenge. It might involve going to the site of the camps and having a bit of fun hunting, in the most base, and primal sense.
At Orion, another hunter from the guild’s words, Fletcher gave a small cruel smile. “Of course. I’m planning on going hunting soon. Especially after this… tragedy.” Fletcher nodded as the other hunter joined the group. “Thank you both for coming by the way, it’s good to know the guild is still family.” It was one of the perks of the job, the solidarity, and the acknowledgment that magi were nothing more than bothersome animals who didn’t deserve to live. “I will ask that neither of you mention my brother’s… particular taste to anymore people.” He would raise a single eyebrow as he watched the two hunters. “Rumors can stain a family’s name, and mother is already having a hard time.”
At the end of the conversation Kelri would make her way over to the group of men that stood gathered. She would smile at her family, keeping her “face” on to keep up appearances. It was expected, and she wasn’t going to chance her mother getting mad at her on the day of her brother’s funeral. After all, this was her fault to begin with. She smiled as she made her way over and nodded when her brother excused himself to go get her sister and take their other home. The service was over, and people were free to leave if they so desired. She had been told to invite people so she would. Waving over Diya, she would look towards her support group, Orion, Caroline, Diya, and her brother’s lover’s savior, Daniel. “Thank you all so much for coming. I really do appreciate it.”
The young baker would continue to look at the ground, finding a stone quite fascinating. “I’ve been told to tell you all to come to the house, and have some of the dinner our family had prepared.” She would offer a small sad smile as the thought of how much food Jasper would have eaten popped into her head. “The ceremony is officially over, and it’s a drive back into the city, but the Anderson Residence is open if you so choose to come.” Her voice would become a whisper. "Thank you all for coming."

Notes Outfitlemme know if something needs to be changed | 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Dullahan stayed silent and maintained the hug, letting Kelri spill everything out. She didn’t understand emotions, usually. She knew what the kids were like. She knew Kelri well, and Oliver, and Talia, but beyond that? The idea was foreign, and she did not know how to react. She surprised herself by hugging the smaller woman, not entirely sure why she did, either, until Kelri burst. It was because she needed it, wasn’t it? Still, the compulsion was not a normal one for her, so it sat in the back of her mind as a small source of unease. “You were not fine,” she replied. “You were hiding it. You were the one who always encouraged me to talk to you if I needed it, so it seemed right to give you the same respect. That does not make you horrible, so don’t say that. You’re welcome.” She relaxed the hug once Kelri mentioned she should go make rounds; she heard what her mother could be like, so she nodded to her. She said nothing about doing her best to watch out for him. Her mind drifted briefly to the file from the trafficking case, mentions of hunter involvement, mentions of the name Jasper. Despite training and working with him, he was always something of a reckless hunter, even by her standards. Nadia, Dullahan’s sister, pulled Kelri down into her wheelchair for a hug, and her husband offered one to the baker as well. “We’re so sorry,” Nadia said. “Are you doing okay? If you need anything, anything at all, just ask, okay dear? I know you’re putting on a brave face for your parents; just a little longer, okay?”
Their father, Jorgen, head of the hunter-government relations, also offered a gruff pat on the shoulder to Kelri, when she made her way to him.“Sorry ‘bout your loss,” he said. “Damn fine hunter, that brother of yours. Kept the city safe. We’ll miss him.”When Kelri addressed everyone, Dullahan stood in revered silence. She didn’t care about food, of course, but her family would go, and even if they did not, she would at least stay for a time as a sort of comfort measure to her good friend. |

»She barked a small laugh and smiled. “Busy’s one way to put it, yeah? Doing lots now, yeah.” Because professor tightass is being a blackmailing bitch she added mentally. She missed the days where she could rib on the professors with Anna, but now that she was one of them… Well, the days weren’t coming back. Still, a lot of the extra work she did was stuff that drove Inoue crazy; being the mentor for incoming freshmen was her favorite (you could SEE her tense at Diya being the first impression of the university, but she was the one that wanted her to go above and beyond).
“Fifth year,” she said. Had she forgotten already? She gave her a playful bop on the arm. “Ay, seems like it, you know. I’ll be at Mastery level soon, but I’m going for the long haul, so I’ll be around for a while yet, yeah? Lot of requirements for the degree I want.” She crossed her arms and smirked. “And someone’s gotta keep the Uni ahead of all the other science colleges, yeah?”
Once the conversation petered out, Hadiyya scratched the back of her head. “Glad you’re holding up. I’m going to talk to your sister, yeah? S’good talking. Maybe don’t be a stranger now, ay?” With that on the table, she couldn’t scurry away quick enough. With Kelri away from that scary-looking eyepatch woman, Diya was able to flag her down during her rounds. She swooped her up and a close hug, kissing both her cheeks as she did.
“Ay, my little halwaa, how are you holding up?” She pulled back and saw the answer on her face. “Sorry, dear. It’s hard, yeah. You and me? We’re going to go get slammed this week sometime, yeah? My treat, every drink, you got it?” For Diya, this was the best way to feel better, and she wasn’t taking no for an answer. She didn’t hold her friend up very long; no doubt she had a lot of people to talk to.
After a little while, Kelri stood front and center to address a little group. Diya hung in the back of the crowd when Kelri gave her little thank-you speech. Ehhh…. No, it was awkward enough with Anna. Once she had a moment, she approached Kelri again.
“I think I’ll pass on dinner,” she said. “But drinks soon, yeah? I’ll call you.” She hugged Kelri one more time and skedaddled away as soon as she was able.

“ The Righteous Side of Hell. Daniel forced himself to bite back the scalding remark he felt rising in his throat. This man, this boy, was corrupted by hatred and racism that roiled in his soul like the sea churned by a great storm raging overhead. He knew the feeling well enough to know that there were no more words to be said on the matter, that there would be no changing of the mind or heart. Fletcher was determined to hunt and to lash out at the one he believed to be the cause of his family’s suffering; he could see it in that smirk of his.
The old wolf pulled his hand away and gave the younger hunter a hard look. “Just remember what I taught you, ya hear? All that howlin’ and screamin’ wasn’t just ta hear my head rattle. It’ll keep ya alive out there on the trail.” Hopefully those lessons had stuck; at least they might keep him from doing anything stupid on the hunt.
He thought to say more but cut himself short when Kelri approached. Fletcher nodded to his sister and wandered off towards the rest of his family. Daniel watched the man’s back as he walked away, mind wandering towards the possibility that he’d see the young wolf alive and well again. It became an increasingly forlorn hope that faded with each step the man took, almost like watching some lost soul dredging through a river to drowned themselves. That thought alone was enough to make him long for his days in the Guild once again. Maybe then he could actually make a difference and keep all of his former students from making foolish mistakes.
He forced himself from such dismal thoughts and turned back to Kelri, resting a comforting hand briefly on her shoulder. “Don’t worry about it, Kel. Just… take care of yourself. I’ll stop by for a little bit, but I’ve still got to grab Siri.” He offered a small grin before taking his hand away. He would stay where he was until Kelri left, then turn to Orion as his face screwed itself into a mask of worry.
“He’s gonna get himself killed.”

[attr="class","slowlyrics"]I can just hear them now [attr="class","slowlyrics1"]How could you let us down? [attr="class","slowbod"]
Of course Kelri was emotional right now, she was with someone who didn’t care if she was emotional. She sniffled as she cried into the cybernetic woman’s shoulder. “Thank you.” She wouldn’t argue with Caroline right now, instead she was going to just enjoy the small moment of mourning with her confidant. Caroline was important to her, and she was happy in that small moment that the cyborg didn’t care about appearances. She was grateful for her friend.
Kelri would nod as she hugged Nadia. “Thank you so much.” A soft sad smile would come across her face as she whispered into the woman’s ear. She knew that it wasn’t a normal thing for this to happen, especially in this community, and it probably shook a lot more people than she would have thought. “I appreciate it.” Would be the whispered reply as she would move closer to Caroline and Nadia’s father.
She would nod looking up at Caroline’s father. “Thank you for working with him on many occasions, and keeping his reputations intact.” She knew that the man would appreciate the thanks. From what Caroline had told her, he very much valued reputation, as her family did. At least her mother’s side did. Reputation was just about everything. “As will my family, thank you again for coming sir.” She would do a small bow of her head before moving on.
Ana would give a soft smile. “As is the duty of a professor.” She would hold her shoulder a little with a twinge of pain. She shook it off before shaking her head. “I know, and I’m curious as to when you are going to advance.” She was more waiting for her friend to join her. She didn’t wish to be a slave on anyone, but the eldest sister wished she had some company in this… life she had chosen. “If you need any help Hadiyya, let me know.” Ana may have been a professor, but she was still a slight acquaintance to the woman, or she tried to be. She would nod as Diya would move towards Kelri. “She will appreciate it, I’m sure.”
Kelri would offer a brief smile as Diya showed up. Of course she had shown up, it wouldn’t be a party without Diya right? After all the woman was Kelri’s friend, she had been Ana’s rind too. Kel only hoped that Diya had kept her tongue around her mother. Her mom didn’t like the student, something about lost potential? To be honest Kel really didn’t care. It wasn’t important to her. What was important was that Diya had come. That is what mattered. At least to Kel.
The baker offered a sad smile when addressed by her drinking friend. “I’m…. fine.” Her eyes would flicker to her mother who seemed to be keeping an eye on her at this point. “We can talk about this later, after a drink sometimes? Maybe?” The baker desperately just wanted to get smashed. Especially with someone who wouldn’t care. It really was the best way to lose some steam, especially when she knew she was at fault for her brother’s demise. “It’s a plan.” The baker would nod, looking forward to the planned outing. It was something they both needed. Especially after the funeral.
Daniel could rest assured that Fletcher would follow at least some of his teachings, the most effective way to kill a magi, the best way to torture a magi, the easiest way to draw the most blood to make the magi bleed and pass out. Those were the lessons that Fletcher had kept to him these years. It was nothing except for ordinary that the man would be hunting. He would be hunting to avenge his brother, and prove that magi were nothing more than rats that needed to be exterminated. “Yes’sir.” Would be the reply before the hunter brother wandered off as his sister approached.
Kelri would nod towards the older man whom she had pleaded help from. A genuine smile would come across her face, still sad but with a sort of firm determination. “Sounds good Mr. Caim, I look forward to seeing your daughter, even if it is under bad circumstances.” She would shake her head. “Thank you again” would be the whisper directed towards the retired hunter. “I’ll see you back at the house then,” would be the formal response to the retired hunter.
To Orion she would give a soft smile and nod. It was nice of him to come and she would say as much before she headed home to attend the party, if you could call it that. It would be a stressful evening until Kelri could finally escape to her home, curl up in the bath tub, and drink herself into passing out.
