[attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever I wouldn’t have offered if I didn’t want you around.
I chose to come with you.Cadence had to make sure she turned away from Fiamma, sporting a shy smile. Those compliments meant more to her than Fiamma knew. She wasn’t often insecure, but she knew she could lose herself, get overbearing, and bother people with her attitude. But it was more than a welcome reassurance; it was simply… nice to hear those words in her voice. Naïve though she may be, Cadence knew her feelings, and admitted to herself that she had already developed a crush on Fiamma. It wasn’t unusual for her, but she never acted on them, afraid of rejection, or of frightening them, or any number of typical worries of people who were in similar situations. But… maybe she would get over that this time. She mentally told herself to chill, and just go along with her how she was; clearly it was going well, and worst-case scenario, she had a good friend out of it. That resolve didn’t help her in her rare moment of being at a loss for words. It got even worse when Fiamma mentioned it’d worry her if Cadence stayed out. Stop, stop, stop, she thought. She’s just being friendly. With a deep breath, she turned to Fiamma with a matching smile. “Thank you, really! If you’re sure it’s not a bother, that is…” She scooped up her messenger bag and slung it over her shoulders. She picked a few good-looking peaches off low branches and stuck them in; it would be a nice treat for the kids (and herself, of course!). “Either room works for me. Thanks, Fi; even the floor would be better than a tree, I have to admit.” She giggled, and felt herself calm down to her normal, energetic state. Or, energetic for a normal person. She let out a wide yawn and stretched once more. “Yep yep!” She said with an enthusiastic nod. “Let’s go!” It would be easier to find their way back, despite the changing look of the darkening forest. Cadence now had a better bearing on the direction of Fiamma’s cabin, and Fiamma could probably work out which path they had taken here. The idea of Fiamma being able to return to this place whenever she wanted made her happy; she’d worry less knowing she had a place to relax, and plenty of food to eat. She’d talk to her as she did before, though even for her, she was more smiles than usual. During a lull in the conversation, when they were closer to the cabin than the grove, she looked down at Fiamma from her gentle flight, lazy flaps from her powerful wings keeping her a few feet above the fire magi’s head. “So… you, ah, were really worried for me?” She asked. Her tone was clearly lacking the confidence of her normal expressiveness; it seemed reserved. Clearly no offense was taken at the statement, but how Fiamma judged it was up in the air. [attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 727 [attr="class","gold"]meanwhile fiamma is p much oblivious. but she'll figure it out =') [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see If there was one thing Fiamma held as a virtue, it was honesty, and she had indeed been speaking her honest thoughts when she told Cadence of her feelings about the other magi camping out in the forest overnight. The notion grated against her own pride which felt as if she owed Cadence at least an offering of shelter for keeping the air magi out this late, but there was also the simple fact that she did worry for her new friend's safety and comfort. ...friend, yes; Fiamma could hardly call her a stranger anymore.
The lull of silence she received in wake of her words had that treacherous blip of apprehension rearing its ugly head again but, thankfully, Cadence faced her again with a cheery smile that promptly swept the feeling aside. A flicker of pleasant warmth rose into being in its stead and one could safely say that the sight of that smile made Fiamma happy. Contrary to Cadence, she was still a ways off from picking through exactly why she was feeling this way, yet the mysterious nature of it all didn't stop her from enjoying the feeling. Really, this was all very new to her (she'd not even had friends nor any steady company for years now) and so Fiamma was content to leave any self discovery for later. She was happy and that was that.
❝I can imagine,❞ She replied as Cadence went about gathering a few peaches for the road, a new, vibrant glimmer of cheer lighting the scaled magi's eyes and settled in the creases of her lingering smile. ❝Not like I've ever tried sleeping up in a tree myself, but there isn't much that beats sleeping on cushions or a few layers of blankets. It's also nice to have walls up between you and the rest of the woods, at least at night.❞
Not to try and make Arecia Woods out to be some sort of terrifying deathtrap, but Fiamma did still nurse a healthy amount of caution when dealing with the untamed wilds. Nature was the sort of thing that you had to give due respect— or else —and a survivalist such as herself knew good and well that a bit of extra paranoia was preferable to letting yourself get too comfortable. It was very possible to be wary of the woods yet still love it as Fiamma did, and a sense of peace stole back over her being as they passed out of the grove, under the cover of interlocking tree branches, and along unclear path that had taken them here. This first, somewhat bumbling trek had given her a pretty clear sense of how to get to the grove on her own (which she did expect to visit again soon) and she was in agreement with the thought that the trip back would be a lot less complicated.
The lapse back into conversation also came easily, flowing from one topic to the next as the words trailed along on each other's heels, and Fiamma alternated between watching Cadence flutter about to scanning the trees ahead to peeking at the darkening sky up above. It would be full night soon enough, and the stars (so, so many out here compared to the cities) were winking into existence among that bluish veil. It was... relaxing— she could certainly call it that. Cadence's presence along the leisurely walk put the fire magi's mind at ease and, when her companion breached the topic of why she'd invited her to stay the night, Fiamma flashed another smile that was colored with a hint of something bashful. ❝Mm. Yes, I was.❞
❝Not to... make it seem like I don't think you can take care of yourself, because I'm sure you can, but I wouldn't suggest that anyone stay alone in the forest at night. Not if they could help it.❞ She paused to shrug, gaze roving away from Cadence, and adjust her grip on the basket she held. Was it too much to say that she wanted to be able to keep an eye on Cadence? Maybe, even though that was the truth of it. ❝I have space and you probably won't do anything terrible to me in my sleep soooo. That's the reasoning, mostly anyway. There won't be a risk of you falling into any more lakes if you're with me.❞ [newclass=.gold]background-color:#fff;padding:2px;border-left:#222e8e 10px solid;font-family:century gothic;font-size:10px;color:#121b5e;width:120px;margin-top:10px;opacity:0;transition: 1s all;text-align:left;[/newclass] [newclass=.dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .gold]opacity:1;transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar]background-color:#fff;width:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#666;width:1px;[/newclass] [googlefont=La Belle Aurore]

[attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever “It’s not so bad in the trees, really,” she said. “I mean, I’m sure it’s better for me than someone without wings and talons; I can get up there, and most things can’t! So it’s pretty safe, but having your knees locked for an entire night is way more uncomfortable than stretching out in a bed!” She knew the dangers of Arecia; spirits were everywhere, especially at night, and not all were friendly. She’d been lucky so far; she had few encounters, and the ones she did she was able to fly away from. All the same, she’d feel better having walls around her, and a tough friend to keep an eye on her. Her little heart fluttered at the confirmation, and she laughed at Fiamma’s explanation, waving it away. “No, I know what you mean! It can be bad out there, and I’m not the toughest Magi around. So I really appreciate it.” She then stuck her tongue out at the fire magi. “But if I stay away from the lake, who will catch the fish? Not you, apparently.” She said with a wink and a laugh. It wouldn’t be long before exhaustion hit Cadence like a brick. That’s how it was for her; she didn’t gradually get tired; she went and went and went until her body said ‘okay, that’s enough,’ and in moments she was fighting to keep her eyes open and focused. She no longer flew, and instead walked, falling behind even a normal pace of Fiamma’s. Fortunately, they had made most of the journey, and before long, the cabin would come into view. “And we didn’t… even get… lost,” Cadence said with a sleepy smile, the words coming out at a tepid pace, as if she had been hitting the bar too hard. She rubbed her eyes and gave a big yawn. She seemed to wobble back and forth on her feet, not stumbling, but clearly swaying. If Fiamma was standing right by her, she would sway into her side, her light body not enough to move her, but she would rest for a moment against her before standing up again. “Whoops. Mmm, this was… smart. Thanks… Fi. I guess I’m more tired…er… than I thought, hmhm.” She gave a small laugh and would sleepily follow Fiamma into her cabin, looking around for a couch or a chair to flop on and rest her eyes. [attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 885 [attr="class","gold"]why is this so long. but yes agreed [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see ❝I'll take your word for it,❞ Really she wasn't feeling super motivated to test it out for herself since that would involve, you know, actually camping out on a tree branch. Fiamma had always preferred to have both feet on the ground if she could help it and it was a good thing that both magi were in agreement about a nice, soft bed being the best way to go, because Fiamma felt strongly about that. Nothing quite like settling down in a comfy pile of blankets after a long day of running around outdoors.
Cadence's laughter prompted another short chuckle out of the fire magi before her expression warped to become a petulant frown. Did Cadence truly dare to question her fishing skills? No no no Fiamma couldn't stand for that. ❝Wh— I'll have you know that I always catch tons of fish whenever I set my mind to it. So many,❞ She retorted and tried to muster a huff to punctuate the end of the statement, but she was finding it hard to sound in any way serious. Snrk. Laughing would ruin the effect so she had to hold fast. ❝You just probably scared them all away.❞ Her face was turned away now— trying to hide the smile that twisted rebelliously at her lips —even as a mirthful warmth crept into her voice and she snorted to, again, fight back laughter. Saying that she always managed a good catch was definitely exaggerating, but Cadence sure as hell didn't need to know that.
The topic of conversation did make her wonder how powerful a magi Cadence was, however. Fiamma knew better than to judge a book by its cover since, speaking from a survival standpoint, that would get you killed super dead. There was no way to tell just how much magical muscle a magi had at their disposal until it was used out in the open and she couldn't help feeling amused by the idea of tiny, chipper Cadence summoning down tornadoes with a flick of her wrist. That was something she could ask about at a later date.
Cadence, at least, seemed to be fading too fast for her to really start asking a ton of question. It was both comical and a little worrying how fast the change took place and left a very yawn-y, very wobbly bird magi on Fiamma's hands so she ended up keeping a close eye on her companion as they drew nearer to her cabin. The surrounding forest had become familiar to Fiamma's eyes some time ago so she knew exactly where they were going by now, which helped with guiding Cadence in the right direction even as they were given less and less light to navigate by. Should she get a bit of fire going to fix that? Nah— it was only a few more minutes of walking by now.
To be completely honest, Fiamma startled some when Cadence bumped shoulders with her (more like when the shorter magi's shoulder thumped against her ribs) but she reflexively lifted a hand to hover over Cadence's back in anticipation of more stumbling. ...if the fire magi didn't know better than she would have assumed that the other girl had a few too many drinks in her. ❝Oh, uh— it's fine. Good thing we made better time getting back.❞ At this rate she might have ended up carrying Cadence if the walk had taken an extra half hour; something Fiamma wasn't sure how she felt about.
She made sure to check that Cadence was steady on her own feet once they reached her doorstep and Fiamma had to unlock the door, which afforded her a moment to take in and be thoroughly amused by how exhausted the other magi looked. It was, to be frank, quite adorable. On par with a sleepy puppy. Fiamma didn't comment out loud, though, and instead gave her head a soft shake as a smile quirked her lips, ushering Cadence past the doorway. This brought the two properly inside the cabin which sat, still and dark, until its caretaker reached her clawed hands out to flick on the hall light while still guiding Cadence deeper inside. The space next opened into the house's living room where a squishy looking couch was pushed up against one wall and Fiamma was fleetingly glad for things being tidy (the whole interior had a sort of age worn yet comfortably lived in look) despite the fact that her companion probably wasn't in the state of mind to notice any mess. The desire to make a good impression still needled at her. Anyway... this would be where she set Cadence down for the night.
❝I'll be right back,❞ She said in warning before doubling back to the entrance hall and opening the closet there. A bit of rummaging, pushing aside equipment and junk she had no need for now, and Fiamma's hands brushed the pile of folded blankets kept near the back— a necessity for a fire magi living out here in the winter months. Plenty were gathered up in her arms and she returned to the couch. ❝Here. I think these should be enough since it's not so cold out today but... ah, let me know if you need, anything.❞ If Cadence was even listening by now. [attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever For a moment, Cadence believed Fiamma’s boasting about her fishing skills; after all, she apparently did this a lot, but it HAD been interrupted by her. But she recognized that look, just like a child trying to hide a little harmless fib. The snorts only confirmed this. Cadence donned a mischievous smirk. “Well, of course I did,” she said, puffing out her tiny chest. “They were all afraid that I was going to catch them! So they swam to the other side of the lake to stay out of my claws.” She puffed out her chest even further. “I guess I’m just that intimidating!” And then she exhaled her held air with a vibrant laugh. Once that faded, she sighed contentedly. “I’m sure you are good though,” she said. “It’d be hard to make it out here by yourself if you weren’t.” And that was the last of her liveliness before sleep hit her in the face with a stop sign. She was fine to walk, but blinked often and had to force herself to refocus every few seconds. She mumbled a second apology, and nodded at her. “Sorry… this is how sleepiness… hits me. I’m okay.” She gave her a tired smile, her eyes half-open. It didn’t sound confident, but she was able to wobble herself the rest of the way. There was no shortage of goosenecking head bobs, eye-rubs, or tiny yawns. She nodded at Fiamma. “What a nice house,” she said, her words drawn out and soft like a friendly drunk. She sat down on the couch and smiled at how comfortable it was. She nuzzled herself into the back of it, curling up against an armrest and… She was out. She was in the dream realm by the time Fiamma returned with blankets. Any semblance of grace the bird had while awake was gone when she was asleep. She breathed deeply, with her mouth slightly agape. She made a sound that could almost be snoring, and certainly would be if she were larger or had more weight, but from her petite figure, it only sounded like gentle breathing with a small, barely audibly “coo” on her exhales. And, like a true model of beauty and elegance, a thin strip of saliva was already making its way from her mouth down the side of her face. [attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 454 [attr="class","gold"]fiamma just. oh my god i'm fEELING [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see ❝Ah, thank you.❞ It didn't really sound like Cadence was awake enough to take in the condition of Fiamma's house (much less make an effective judgement of what she saw) but the fire magi was fleetingly grateful for the compliment anyway. She took a lot of pride in this cabin, actually. Both her and her parents had put in a lot of work to fix it up from the sorry, neglected state they'd found it in and, now that she was alone, the house was like a culmination of the niche Fiamma had managed to carve out for herself in Arecia. She'd done it, she'd managed to survive on her own, and this is where all of that came together.
The state of the house wasn't really the main concern here, though, since she could hear the heavy, looming sleepiness in Cadence's voice even as she was grabbing the blankets. And when she returned... it seemed that the air magi was already out cold. Well then.
A soft sigh wound its way out of Fiamma's lungs at the sight but it was equal parts exasperated and colored warmly fond by the smile that tugged at the corners of her lips. Cadence looked very small curled up tight against the corner of the couch like that and, frankly, the disheveled way in which she slept was tugging at Fiamma's heartstrings. Was she cooing? Oh dear— that was almost too adorable for the scaled magi to handle and she found herself stifling a bubbly giggle with one hand pressed against her mouth. Yeah it really was... cute; very, very cute. Okay she was investing way too much time in standing there to watch Cadence sleep; best to try and avoid ruining the evening by being a creep.
Feeling irrationally embarrassed by her actions, Fiamma scrubbed that same hand across her face as if it could wipe away the blush there and promptly set about unfolding one or two of the blankets to lay over Cadence. Once that was done she lingered again, somewhat indecisively, before clearing her throat and turning about to flick off the living room light. She really needed to, stop feeling so flustered all of a sudden. Better said than done.
The fire magi gave another breath that was wearier than the last and made her way to the nearby staircase. ❝...good night.❞ Came a last, parting murmur (not that she expected Cadence to hear it) before Fiamma hustled herself up the stairs so that she could get herself ready for bed. Because she would be sleeping; not lying awake and thinking about the butterflies that had taken up residence in the stomach or the cute magi asleep on her couch. Definitely not.
