[attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 568 [attr="class","gold"]there's no escape now [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see Oh, a nickname. The only indication Fiamma gave that she was surprised to hear it was a slight widening of her eyes, eyebrows lifting, but otherwise she didn't comment on it. Being isolated for years on end meant that you didn't pick up a lot of nicknames. She could dimly remember a few occasions where she'd played with the other magi children in the camp— her name too many syllables for a young tongue to fumble over —and times with her parents, maybe. But otherwise? It had a novelty to it that wasn't unpleasant; she could enjoy it.
❝Practice... yeah I know how to do that much.❞
When Cadence took the little fire starter from her hands Fiamma was allowed a few moments to watch the other magi— fondly and with same, gentle sort of amusement she'd found herself feeling over and over again. It was almost impossible to wrap her head around something this good and pure existing in the world. And yet here she was, sitting along side the fire magi in a waterfall fed pool and surrounded by beautiful scenery. The air here was practically perfumed, for Arithelia's sake. ❝Only certain kinds. That one is called 'flint',❞ She explained in way of a reply before shrugging faintly. ❝You just have to give it a little encouragement. Fire is like... a living thing, more like a wild animal actually.❞ One that would readily bite the hand that feeds it and burn your damn house down if you weren't careful.
Another soft bubble of laughter, more like a giggle this time, came from Fiamma when toying with the rock earned Cadence a broken nail for her trouble. She didn't want the air magi to go about hurting herself, but thankfully there wasn't any blood involved. Fiamma took the flint back when it was offered to her and began rolling it along her palm again in idle, practiced motions. Doing this sort of thing really was a comfort to her— an anchor of familiarity and something to busy her hands with —which talking with Cadence about did well to make her recognize more. It was funny, actually. To think about what a total it would be if one were to count up how many times she'd used this little rock to summon flame.
❝Easy? Eh, well it is a big part of who I am. Like how you make flying look so easy.❞ Claws tapped thoughtfully against roughened, rocky edges as she poked one foot around the bottom of the pool. ❝It'd be nice if I didn't need this for my magic, actually. Water magi can pull what they need out of plants and thin air, earth magi almost always have more than enough right under their feet, and air magi have their element everywhere around them. It's... scary to think about not being able to use it just because this little thing got away from me.❞
More frightening then she'd care to let on. All you had to do was knock the rock out of her hand and suddenly Fiamma had a lot less options in a fight. Sure she knew how to use her fists and claws as weapons, but without her magic it was hard not to feel... naked. Not a train of thought she often liked to follow and the main reason why she was so diligent about keeping her fire starter on hand. [attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever “A wild animal that bites, apparently!” She said with a little whine. She couldn’t hide the surprised smile that formed at hearing the girl giggle; it was a nice sound and one that didn’t seem to come too often from her. She was all ears as Fiamma went on, and once she was done evening out her nail with her teeth, she would watch her talk and nod along. “Huh,” she said, and lowered herself more into the water. “You know, I hadn’t thought of that. I guess I’m lucky to have air all around me… I can just pull it without thinking about it. I don’t have to worry about being without it.” If it got away from her… it was a small rock, and Cadence knew she’d fumble it a dozen times a day, were she a fire magi. With her luck, it’d go down a sewer drain or fall out of a hole in her pocket. She sat and stared at the water in thought, humming and moving her feet back and forth. Once a certain idea hit, she perked up, but kept the rest of her excitement under control for once. “Well, I’d say if it’s that important to you, it does have some sentimental value. Especially if you’ve had it for so long. Out of curiosity… where would I find more of this ‘flint?’ I think… some… uh… fire magi back home! Would, ah, like to see it!” An excuse to cover her real plan, and a poor one, at that. She snapped her fingers while she thought. “It’s cheaper than like, matches? So I think maybe they’d like it! Yeah!” She giggled under her breath and bobbed left to right, her small body unable to contain her excitement as usual. She sighed with the smile plastered on her face, her mind already coming up with the specifics of her plan and who she could ask for help. She forced herself to save it for later, and searched for other topics of conversation to move on and not give her time to ask about any suspicions she might have. “Have you been to Dagos much?” She asked. “Isn’t Felici closer to here? It must take you a little while to go so far. If you want to come by and visit anytime I’m usually around! I can show you all the neat little places, and some of my other friends, and oh! I’ll definitely have to play you some music. Off all the days to leave my violin at home, it figures I’d meet someone like you, Fi,” she said with a laugh and a shrug. She settled against the rocks and closed her eyes. With the sound of the waterfall, and Fiamma’s voice, and with the lowering sun beating down on her, she could just… drift to sleep. There was nothing like this in Dagos. [attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 465 [attr="class","gold"]oh boy this gonna be good. also late reply is late. [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see ❝Oh definitely,❞ Fiamma confirmed while trying to hold back further laughter, only just managing to silence a not-so-flattering snort. ❝Just because I haven't burned anything important down yet doesn't mean that I'm not familiar with that. At least I have scaled hands to fend off burns.❞
The fingers of the fire magi's free hand flexed at the mention of the dark, bluish scales that armored most of her hands and forearms and, briefly, she reminisced a bit on her adventures in learning to wield her magic— she didn't think that she could count all the mishaps on ten digits. Yes it certainly hadn't been easy, but Fiamma had to guess that that was the case for any magi. Magic itself was a wild thing. ❝Not that I would ever trade my magic for another kind. Never.❞ She made sure to add since, despite all the inconveniences and singed hair, Fiamma treasured her gift above all.
She just had to keep herself from thinking about losing her trusty flint, lest she make herself too anxious to ever leave the forest again.
When Cadence spoke again (speaking more about the little fire starter in Fiamma's hand) she lifted her gaze from where it had dropped to watch the softly ripping surface of the pool and listened with a look of vague curiosity. Another fire magi? Well she could recommend this method to another of her kind, since it did help save money and was easy to use if you had a striking tool.❝It is important to me, at least for what I use it for. And I got it... huh where was it—?❞ A few beats of silence as Fiamma furrowed her eyebrows low in thought. ❝Oh, that's right. This one I got in Haven, but I've seen stands selling different types of rocks and minerals in the bigger cities, too. Flint isn't all that valuable and only having to buy it once makes up for the price.❞
There was no way for Fiamma to discern what Cadence might be planning, but the air magi's sudden giddiness was... suspicious. Highly suspicious. In the end she only met the other magi's grinning with a sideways, skeptical look before ultimately letting it go. ❝It is a bit of a trip, yeah, but I'd so much rather go to Dagos than Felici. Whenever I have to travel it's by train since regular tickets aren't too expensive,❞ Dagos was at least a little less crowded and, likewise, a little more magi friendly if there was even such a thing among the urban centers. ❝...that sounds nice. With all these plans you have to show me cool things I'll have to give you a tour of the forest at some point. [attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever She watched Fiamma’s wet scales as she flexed her hand, captivated by the way each scale reflected the lowering sunlight. She looked at her own hand, moving and flexing it just like Fiamma did; hers was less interesting; human hands covered in delicate, smooth skin. Feathers started just past the wrist, smaller and lighter than the ones near the middle of her arm and near her shoulder. “Wish I had scales…” she muttered. She wasn’t upset about her appearance at all, but they looked so great on Fiamma that she couldn’t help feel a fleeting bit of jealousy. Then she caught how silly she was being, and gave a happy hum. “You’re right. I wouldn’t want to trade who I am, either. It’s a part of who were are. And… I’d probably hurt myself with fire. Or earth. Orrrr water. And somehow as a zero, too, I bet.” “Haven…” she echoed, looking up and off into the forest. “I’ve never been. I wouldn’t even know how to get there. But if I can find some in Dagos, then that’s good enough for me! Huh. Actually, speaking of… how do you get money living out here? For like, the train, and stuff?” She tilted her head at Fiamma. Did she sell things from the forest? There was probably a market for that in Camlorn. Being able to live out here and make money… Cadence was considering the idea more and more. If only it weren’t impossible to move her instruments… and support everyone. “Is, ah, Felici that bad, really?” She looked down at the water and sheepishly tapped her index fingers together. The water above her talons gently swayed and waved as she kicked her foot up and down. Her image of the city; grand, tall buildings, art everywhere, massive concert halls… was it wrong? “What’s so bad about it, if you don’t mind me asking? I thought it was a nice city full of art and beauty.” Her shy demeanor only intensified at Fiamma’s inquiry about the woods, despite her smile at the magi’s agreement to let her give her a tour. She sank back in the pool, leaning against the rocks. Her eyes looked ahead to the waterfall, and her voice was suddenly less light and airy. “I, ah, come to the forest… at least once a year. Not this far, but… There’s an old camp more east. Not far from there my…” She sniffed and shuddered. Her other wing folded across the feather shirt, and she hugged herself tight. “Family… is buried. So I try to visit…” “Sorry. I didn’t mean to get so dark. I would like to see the forest by you.” She sank down lower until only her eyes could be seen above the water. She didn’t threaten tears, but it was clearly not an easy subject. She closed her eyes and sighed, creating small bubbles that popped in front of her face. Once again, she berated herself for bringing a dark curtain over light conversation. [attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 605 [attr="class","gold"]from 0 to 100 feels [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see To be honest, there were no features of Fiamma's own body (particularly the inhuman ones) that she disliked or would choose to change, given the chance. Was it an inconvenience to have them in such visible areas? Oh definitely. But that was the fault of people who turned up their noses at the sight of anything different, so frankly they could all go take a long walk off a short, steep cliff. Any time that the fire magi hid herself under a hood and long sleeves it was just because she didn't want to deal with the stares her appearance attracted from the public. Never shame.
Cadence's comment prompted a wry twist of a smile from her, though, before Fiamma's hand was pulled back under the surface of the water. The other was propped up against the pool's edge and still toying with her hunk of flint. ❝I don't think they would fit too well with the theme you have going,❞ She replied with a light tone and briefly entertained some comment about how the air magi's own traits looked simply adorable on her— something along the lines of comparing her to a fluffy little chick —but ultimately decided against it. The comparison remained caged in Fiamma's mind and only betrayed itself in the bright gleam of amusement to her eyes.
❝But I think you would probably manage, if it was what you'd been born with. All the different kinds of magic have to be hard to master in their own ways.❞
❝As for how I make money,❞ Fiamma began in order to answer Cadence's next question. ❝It's mostly selling what I can get out in the forest. Freshly hunted meat and wild furs aren't something you see around that much anymore so people will pay a nice amount just because of the more 'natural' appeal. Stupid but good for me... I've taken a few odd jobs in Haven, too; that was back when I first had to figure out living alone out here.❞ Which had been a... rough couple of months. Her parents had taught her well, so it wasn't like she'd been near to starvation at all, but it was distressing to be tossed into taking care of everything herself— being truly alone.
A sigh. ❝Felici itself is pretty, yeah, but the people? Not so much. I've never been a big fan of the crowding in the cities and, honestly, it's a lot riskier for magi there. A lot more Hunters around, and people who just have big mouths about their opinions. The temples are nice.❞ The corners of her lips had begun to tighten in a frown (speaking of the city's inhabitants always left a bad taste in her mouth) yet when Fiamma moved to re-focus her attention on Cadence a startled look washed over her expression.
Her... family. Well fuck.
Granted, there hadn't been any way for Fiamma to know that her question would lead the conversation in this direction but god that really ruined the mood, and she felt like an idiot for forcing the other magi to share such information. ❝No it's— it's fine. It's a hard thing t' talk about.❞ The clarity of her words dropped towards a mumble by the end and Fiamma's anxious fiddling with the rock in her hand only increased. She was sorely tempted to close up on herself, just as Cadence was now doing, but ended up only fixing her gaze down to the water again as a heavy silence stretched out between the two. The camp in the plains; was that the one? She'd poked around there once before.
❝...sorry, for asking.❞ [newclass=.gold]background-color:#fff;padding:2px;border-left:#222e8e 10px solid;font-family:century gothic;font-size:10px;color:#121b5e;width:120px;margin-top:10px;opacity:0;transition: 1s all;text-align:left;[/newclass] [newclass=.dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .gold]opacity:1;transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar]background-color:#fff;width:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#666;width:1px;[/newclass] [googlefont=La Belle Aurore]

Though I guess mine are too big for the fish.” She flushed a little bit at the events a few hours back, but now it seemed like a funny little story rather than an embarrassing display of… well, embarrassment. “And I guess that’s true. I can’t imagine myself handling fire, though. Would be handy on cold nights, at least.” Ah, as she thought. Furs and meat from the forest animals. She glanced over at the stream, and as if understanding Fiamma’s words, the doe and her children finished their drinking and bounded off back into the trees, the brush making swooshing noises as they went. “Well, that makes sense,” she said, turning back to Fiamma. “It’s good to have a way to make money, even all the way out here. And Haven… hum… I’ve never been, honestly. Is it nice there?” Well, she hoped Fiamma gave her an affirmative on Haven, because her expression drooped at hearing about the problems in Felici. Hunters… they didn’t show up much in Dagos. At least not around her side of the slums. “I see. I guess it’s kind of silly to picture it as some perfect place for art and music, isn’t it? I’ve just heard so many things but…” She lifted her heavy head and sighed. “Better to learn about the truth now than in person, hm?” She held up her hand to Fiamma, a reassuring smile on her face. “No, it’s okay- you couldn’t have known. It’s sad, but I can’t do anything about the past. The best I can do now is pay my respects.” She recalled a topic they had touched on at the lake, remembered the tone she took when asked about living alone. Slowly, she reached out and put a hand lightly on Fiamma’s upper arm (if allowed to), looking her in the eyes, if she lifted them. If Fiamma recoiled at the touch, she would back up and leave her arm dutifully at her side, whispering a small apology. In either case, her voice would lower and a sadness would show on her face. “It’s… the same for you, isn’t it? With your family.” She’d maintain contact, unless Fiamma became upset at her, in which case she’d apologize profusely and mentally punch herself. She would never choose to live there over her current arrangement— too accustomed to the peace and privacy —but now that was a city worth visiting in her eyes. It was far more beautiful to her than Felici ever could be, nestled among the forest as if it had sprung up from the earth itself and run entirely on sunshine. Not to mention the fact that magi outnumbered humans there. ❝Haven really is something. It's nice to actually have somewhere we can fit in, for once, and the air is clean. It looks like the city belongs there, rather than that the forest was cut away to make room, you know? ❞
She did feel a bit bad for making Felici out to be so awful, though. Fiamma just wasn't the type to be so impressed by its aesthetic and the blooming culture (not when the crowding and racism caught her attention first), but she could admit some positive things about it. ❝I mean, no Felici definitely isn't perfect. But neither is Haven,❞ She went on to say, speaking slowly in a way that suggested that the fire magi was carefully considering her words. ❝The buildings downtown are pretty. I've never been inside any of the museums so I guess I haven't gotten the chance to... admire what the city is best known for. Except the boardwalk, that was nice.❞ Maybe she should remedy that and at least take a look into a gallery or two, but Fiamma doubted that beauty would ever overshadow her distaste for the city as a whole.
As for right now she was just endlessly frustrated at herself for steering the conversation in a dark direction, plus raining all over Cadence's expectations for Felici. Strike one and two. The air magi seemed to be filled with endless goodwill, though, because Fiamma was surprised to find that Cadence was comforting her. Had the wistful note in her voice been that obvious? She didn't pull away from the touch to her forearm (despite not having expected it) and instead lifted a startled gaze to Cadence before giving in to the urge to look away, momentarily flustered into silence.
❝...in the past, and there's nothing to do about it. Like you said.❞ Admittedly, she was pretty uncomfortable with airing out her feelings about the loss of her family, but after unintentionally forcing the conversation in this direction it wasn't like she could get angry about it. ❝I— don't have any graves to visit, though.❞
Gods she hoped that this wasn't an insensitive thing to say. ❝It's nice that you made a routine out of it, and have a reason to get to see the area once in a while.❞ [newclass=.gold]background-color:#fff;padding:2px;border-left:#222e8e 10px solid;font-family:century gothic;font-size:10px;color:#121b5e;width:120px;margin-top:10px;opacity:0;transition: 1s all;text-align:left;[/newclass] [newclass=.dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .gold]opacity:1;transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar]background-color:#fff;width:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#666;width:1px;[/newclass] [googlefont=La Belle Aurore]

[attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever “Really?” She asked, regarding Haven. “You know, for the longest time, I didn’t think it really existed. Maybe I should visit, and see about doing some performances! If you, ah, wouldn’t mind showing me the way there?” Her excitement was renewed at Fiamma’s dreamy description of the city; she pictured all sorts of images in her head. An entire city built in nature? It sounded like a fantasy. And if they had a big concert area… goodness! Her giddiness was too much for her small body to contain, and she bobbed slightly with excitement. Though… she never could get the idea of a grand Felici concert hall out of her head. Ever since she saw a flier in Dagos of the inside of the huge, marble hall, she dreamed of being center-stage there, the audience filled with people who she could reach with her heart, and maybe, just maybe, grant them peace. She smiled and made a stifled giggle at Fiamma, who was clearly trying to make her feel better. “It’s okay; I know it’s not perfect. But still, I want to perform there. It’s been my dream for years, and I’m working hard to get myself there. One day, I’ll be there.” There was a determination in her voice that said it was a guarantee, not a wish. The bird would work her whole life to get on that stage, if that’s what it took. She didn’t give up once her mind was made. …But her mood dropped once the darker topics were reached. Even nature seemed to give them her respect, silent save for the gentle rumble of the waterfall. Her eyes drift down for a moment, and she nodded. Of course, just like so many others. It hurt her heart to know that Fiamma had dealt with this alone for so long. She smiled through the sadness, though; Fiamma’s optimistic view was a refreshing thought. Slowly, her hand drifted down Fiamma’s smooth scales until her palm rest on the top of Fiamma’s claw. If allowed, she would curl her fingers around her hand and give a gentle squeeze, a gesture of comfort she thought would be okay. She looked in Fiamma’s eyes, briefly left speechless by their beauty. The color with the slit pattern was something out of a painting. She sniffed a short laugh, both to gather her thoughts and lighten the mood. “You’re right,” she said, softly. “It’s good to get out, back to nature. It’s … peaceful, to visit them. They’re not buried there, but I set up the graves so I’d have somewhere to dedicate to them. If you want, we could do the same for your family. It’s… good for the heart, I think. We can even set them up by my family’s, so… they won’t be alone.” She emphasized the last few words. Nobody should have to be alone, and hopefully now Fiamma knew she wasn’t anymore. Not in her pain, and not in her life, moving forward. To her, the dark veil of the past was lifted, and the air felt lighter once more. Perhaps the conversation was serious for a few moments, but then again, maybe they both needed that. [attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 585 [attr="class","gold"]tfw tears and dokis all at once [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see A nod. ❝You're not the first,❞ Fiamma had personally come across other magi who had been skeptical of Haven's existence, which she could honestly see the reasoning behind. The city had its name for a reason— a quintessential example of a "magi friendly" environment, where their kind could just live rather than constantly be on the alert for hateful eyes and Hunters in the night —and a person who had never been blessed with the chance to lay eyes on it might think the idea too good to be true. It certainly impressed Fiamma. ❝I wouldn't. That would be a good way for me to pay you back for showing me this place, and I think that all magi deserve to visit Haven at least once.❞ So long as they weren't bringing destruction and death in on their heels.
The fire magi could tell that her (fumbling) attempt at putting a positive spin on Felici had been found out so she could only offer a withering smile at what Cadence said next. Yeah, she knew that the words hadn't come out too convincing. The other girl's laughter was uplifting, at least; not to mention the endearing charm Cadence radiated when she spoke of her dreams. ❝I hope you make it there.❞
Unfortunately, was nigh impossible for Fiamma to keep up any cheer when the gloom of their current topic settled over the space. Death was always a difficult thing to speak of, especially when the loss was of someone so close to you. It just... wasn't something that Fiamma cared to dwell on much, if at all, so she was drawn by the urge to close up and refuse to speak about it any more. But that would be childish, right? She always prided herself on being strong and strength meant that you didn't turn tail and run from what frightened you.
Cadence's touched helped... kind of. The scaled magi found herself embroiled in a distressing mixture of emotions— the ache of old grief that clenched at her heart and the sensation of her stomach flipping in what was, nervousness? Fiamma couldn't really tell. Sadness threatened to chill her and yet her cheeks stubbornly heated up (prompted by how Cadence was now holding her hand) and wow this was not a comfortable assortment of feelings to be grappling with; this led to her again averting her eyes from Cadence's in an anxious gesture.
❝That's— a big offer to make to someone you just met,❞ Her voice was quiet, coming out rough until the fire magi wrestled it under control. ❝But I... appreciate it. I never thought to make them graves around here.❞
That was partially a lie. She'd entertained the idea before, but to make a grave for her father would be to admit that he was dead, to give up that shred of hope, and she could never put her mother to rest without him right by her side. The closest thing to a grave Fiamma had was their bedroom, which lay untouched even years later. ❝Haha,❞ She managed a short laugh as the grief was shoved back into the distant corners of Fiamma's mind. ❝Then again you don't usually have conversations like this with them, either. Death isn't a great ice breaker.❞ Her free hand came up to wipe at the corner of one eye (a foreboding prickle had surfaced, but no tears would be allowed. no thank you) and she sounded bashful, though still held on to the hand in her own. Oh, and some supplies... and...” Her mouth stopped moving as her brain took over, planning out a trip she had no details about except that Fiamma would take her there. Should she bring a gift? A nicer dress? Were there homeless people there who needed care? Would they even allow her to play there? Oh gosh, so many things to consider! And prepare! When would they even go? Of course, Fiamma's continuation of the conversation snapped the scatterbrained bird back to the present, and she smiled warmly at her. “Thank you. I hope I make it, too. I want to bring peace to as many people as I can, and music is how I can do that.” Cadence maintained a somber look; clearly she had struck a deep feeling within the magi. She didn't mean to make it a somber topic, but Fiamma was opening up, and maybe she just needed someone to listen. Still, Cadence couldn't help giving a little nervous giggle at her words; that was certainly something she's been accused of in the past. “Maybe,” she said, her voice soft like the song from earlier. Fiamma looked on the verge of tears, and the last thing she wanted to do was make her cry. So she tried to calm her in the only way she knew how; a soft voice, and a gentle touch. She scoot a little closer to Fiamma, and rubbed her thumb along the other girl's. “But it's an offer I mean. I know we haven't known each other long, Fi, but... I don't know. There's... something about you that makes me feel... a... connection? I, uh, I mean,” it was now her turn to flush and look away. Her grip on the girl's claw unconsciously tightened, now more of a comfort measure for herself than for Fiamma. “Ignore me! I don't know what I'm, ah, talking about. I... I just, want to help. You're really nice, and everyone deserves some closure...” She was glad Fiamma laughed, and she laughed along with her. It really put the earlier awkwardness to ease. “Well, you don't usually meet people by watching them fall from the sky either, right?” She sighed, which came out as a small, happy hum, and she was able to look at Fiamma once more. “I mean it, though. If you want, I'd be happy to do that for you, Fi.” [attr="class","text-lyrics"]Always on my lips you will dance so sweetly the leviathan @ GS & BRSW[newclass=.icon-bg]padding:10px;border:1px solid #000;height:100px;width:100px;margin-right:10px;[/newclass][newclass=.iconhere]-moz-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-webkit-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-o-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;[/newclass][newclass=.iconheres]-moz-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-webkit-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-o-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;opacity: 0;[/newclass][newclass=.iconheres:hover]-moz-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-webkit-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-o-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;opacity:1;[/newclass][newclass=.notestxt]padding-top:20px;font:small-caps 10px 'Times New Roman',serif;color:#fff;text-align:justify;padding:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass][newclass=.text-lyrics]display:inline-block;font: italic 9px/100% Times New Roman,serif;text-align:center;letter-spacing:1px;width:80%;border-bottom:1px solid #000;line-height:0.1em;margin:10px 0 20px;margin-left:30px;[/newclass][newclass=.text-lyrics span]background:#fff;padding:0 10px;[/newclass] [newclass=.post]font:11px Times New Roman,serif;color:#1c1c1c;padding:0px 20px 0px 0px;height:350px;width:330px;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;line-height:130%;position:relative;margin-top:-400px;margin-left:100px;[/newclass][newclass=.post::-webkit-scrollbar-track]border:1px solid #000;background-color:#fff;[/newclass][newclass=.post::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#000;[/newclass][newclass=.post::-webkit-scrollbar]width:4px;background-color:#fff;[/newclass]

[attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 434 [attr="class","gold"]fiamma: teases to show affection [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see ❝I'm sure that there'll be plenty of people who are happy to hear you sing. I don't know the city that well, but it has lots of cafes and bars and theaters like any of the others. It also has to be easier for a magi to get attention there— the good kind.❞
A trip to Dagos, another to Haven; Fiamma really was allowing a lot of future plans to be made all in this one conversation. But did she mind? No, not at all, actually. The notion of spending considerable more time with a person was strange to her, being so unused to the company of a regular friend, yet with that person being Cadence the fire magi only found herself looking forward to these future dates. ...not dates. Outings. Yeah, that.
This train of thought helped to kindle a flickering warmth in her heart even as the conversation took a nosedive into far more saddening territory. Ugh, she was being too mushy all of a sudden, wasn't she? Fiamma would be hard pressed to explain where all of this emotion suddenly bubbled up from (really it was just the fact that she wasn't often confronted with these memories, preferring to just box them away) and she hastily tried to stave it off before she could go on to make a fool of herself. Big, tough forest dweller; she didn't exactly seem like one right now. ❝Pfff— heh. You're right about that.❞ What god had seen it fit to bestow a friend on her by literally having them fall out of the sky? Fiamma huffed another rough bit of laughter, chuckling low in her throat, before she managed a smile that shone with the lighthearted amusement of earlier.
❝'Nice'. Well, that's your opinion, I guess,❞ Cadence's close proximity wasn't helping to dull the prickle of abashed heat under Fiamma's skin and she tried not to squirm away since, honestly, she both liked and didn't like the closeness. Comforting but gods was it still embarrassing. Fiamma ended up settling on a pat to the back of the other girl's hand in what she hoped conveyed appreciation. ❝No I, uh, I get what you mean. By a connection, I mean. I'll have to think more about making them graves, but I'm... happy that we ended up coming across each other. Even if that was because you almost drowned yourself in the lake.❞
Cobalt eyes flicked back up to Cadence, twinkling with mischief now, as Fiamma loosed a more outright bout of laughter. ❝We both have things to show and teach each other. It'll be... nice.❞ [newclass=.gold]background-color:#fff;padding:2px;border-left:#222e8e 10px solid;font-family:century gothic;font-size:10px;color:#121b5e;width:120px;margin-top:10px;opacity:0;transition: 1s all;text-align:left;[/newclass] [newclass=.dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .gold]opacity:1;transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar]background-color:#fff;width:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#666;width:1px;[/newclass] [googlefont=La Belle Aurore]

[attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever She smiled at her reassurance. “I hope so; the bars in Dagos seem to like it, and I have that bigger one coming up… I want to play everywhere, you know?” She laughed. “Silly, maybe, but there’s so many people out there. Hopefully… I can help magi get more of that good attention; not just me, but all of us.” She sighed, a mix of wistful hope and recognizing the reality of how things were. Despite her childlike naiveté and optimism, she was well aware of the trials facing magi. Death, racism, poverty… being forced to live in isolation. She experienced these firsthand, and saw it every day. Things weren’t good, but she thought she could make them better. She had to think that. During the somber moments, she became aware of the heat on her hand; goodness, Fiamma’s claw was warm. It was a different sensation; normally she held the smaller hands of children for comfort, or the drying, wrinkled hands of the elderly or sick magi she lived with. But Fiamma’s hand was… warm, and her scales were smooth against her skin, but not without small rough patches, clearly a result of doing all the hard work of living alone all by herself. Mostly, it was a nice mix of firm and gentle, and her fingers fit so neatly between Fiamma’s. She couldn’t tell if the heat now radiating from her face came from within, or if Fiamma was really just that warm. Either way, it was impossible for the bird to hide her sheepish smile. She sighed with relief that Fiamma at least felt the same way with her babbling, but then her face snapped back to hers with an equally mischievous grin. “Hey! It wasn’t that bad!” She laughed and unclasped her hand from Fiamma’s so she could splash up a bit of water at her friend’s face, with a playful laugh and backing away in preparation for a counter-attack. “Besides, I caught as many fish as you did, y’know! So nyeh to you!” She punctuated the last phrase by sticking her tongue out at Fiamma. Once any splash war settled down, she sighed and relaxed once more. They did have a lot of things to share together, didn’t they? She found the prospect…exciting! It was different from home… different from fixing up the temple with Kaveri or Shinzu, or seeing Sterling sit in on her performances, or running around with her little family. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but she felt like she couldn’t wait to get going on this list with her. She couldn’t tell if she was more excited to see these new places, or to see Fiamma more in the future. “It’ll be ‘nice,’ huh? Well that’s your opinion, I guess!” She said with a wry smile, changing her voice to be a caricature of Fiamma’s as she repeated her line from earlier. All in good fun. “You’re right, though. I’m looking forward to it!” With plans settled, she felt it was time to stay on pleasant topics. She wriggled her back against the stones and would talk to Fiamma about… well, anything! Funny stories from her family, or her music, or talking about Fiamma’s day-to-day; anything, really; she was just happy to keep the conversation going. In fact, unless Fiamma stopped earlier, she would carry on for another hour or two, any sense of time lost as she enjoyed the lovely escape. She was glad she shared her secret spot with Fiamma; it really did make it better to have someone to enjoy it with. After said hours, or when Fiamma was ready to stop sooner, she would turn her back to her and stand up. She groaned low as she stretched her arms out to the side, water dripping from her snowy-white feathers and down her bare back. She shook her arms quickly, almost like a vibration, shaking the excess water from her wings (which sprayed a fine mist in all directions). She looked up at the sky, the sun much lower than before and glowing gentle orange. “Oh, butts!” she’d exclaim. “It’ll almost be dark by the time we get you back to your cabin. I won’t be able to get to the old camp by nightfall, either. Well, at least it’s not a bad night to camp outside for me. I guess… we should get going before it gets too dark to find our way back, huh?” It was the responsible thing to do, though the last thing she wanted was to say goodbye to this place… and to Fiamma, even if it was temporary. But she didn’t want them getting lost in the woods at night; she’d done that one too many times herself, even with flying. And to boot, she’d have to camp outside tonight, which wasn’t the worst thing, but it was less comfortable than lying in the bed at the old camp. [attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 849 [attr="class","gold"]this is also long hsdlkf. but no that was just fine [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see Fight fire with songbirds— what an interesting philosophy.
It was difficult to explain exactly how she felt about Cadence's way of thinking, but Fiamma found herself at least softly envious of how the other magi seemed to think about the world and what she could do for it. Many magi that she'd come across were either aggressive, resigned, or apologetic in the face of oppression and yet here Cadence was speaking so earnestly about just... moving people. Making them change their thinking in a way beyond words. For the good of all. The cynical part of Fiamma felt inclined to scoff at the thought— what did anything besides force ever really accomplish? —but she didn't have the heart to do such a thing aloud. She could also admit that it was soothing to have that hope sometimes; a feeling that was wounded but not quite dead within Fiamma herself.
You know, just another thing to toss onto the pile of things she could call endearing about her new friend. A pile which was growing at an alarming rate yet still showed no signs of slowing; it cared naught about Fiamma's distress and obeyed no master.
Cadence's objection prompted another trickle of chuckles out of the scaled magi and she seesawed her free hand in a display of skepticism, just in time get splashed in the face. This very quickly broke off the bit of hand holding they'd been doing (as a note, Cadence's had also felt quite nice against her own. she could say this even though Fiamma's scales sort of muted sensation in her fingers and palm) as Fiamma reared back, sputtering out of surprise. Wow, rude. That sort of thing was not going to pass by without any sort of retribution so, despite the whole thing being rather childish, she sent water spraying back at Cadence to kick off their second splash war for the day. There would be no winner and she only ended up with soaked hair for her trouble, but Fiamma was in good spirits by the time that things settled down.
❝Bah. Only because you tempted me away from fishing with peaches,❞ The fire magi snarked as she leaned back against the rim of the pool and responded to the tongue poked her way with a last flick of water that she hoped would land right on Cadence's nose. What Cadence said next was harder to retort to and, ultimately, Fiamma only wrinkled her nose in a grumpy little sniff because, well, honestly she'd walked right into that one. She would never claim to be eloquent with words, which included expressing any sort of compliments. A simple and safe 'nice' was an adjective that often wormed its way into her vocabulary.
Ah well, she could be glad for Cadence's penchant to roll right into the next topic, since it freed Fiamma from having to stew over her verbal blunders. It was very pleasant to just let the other magi lead their talks to wherever she felt drawn and Fiamma didn't feel pressured to chatter on endlessly for the sake of matching word count. No— instead there was a sense of comfort imbuing the interaction, persisting through each twist and turn the passing hours took them through, and Fiamma was content to share memories where she saw fit or sit quietly to listen as the whim struck her. It was just... easy. Strangely so, since she had to keep reminding herself that she'd only met Cadence today.
A look of amusement danced across the scaled magi's expression as she watched her companion do a sort of dog-like shake to rid herself of water (they were both thoroughly saturated by now, but Fiamma's fingers had never been the type to prune) and she reflexively averted her eyes from seeing any, uh, extra skin. Wouldn't be good to ruin the interaction with oggling, after all. After a moment Fiamma just decided to distract herself with drawing her own body out of the water and roughly combing her hair into order with her claws once she'd stood up. ❝Ah, looks like you're right,❞ Since, as stated, the skyline was already beginning to purple with the onset of night.
Being out in the forest after dark was something that Fiamma knew to be careful of, but it didn't concern the seasoned survivalist too much. Her thoughts were far more focused on Cadence's situation upon hearing what the air magi apparently planned for the night now that her prior arrangement would be impossible. That worried her. ❝...um,❞ Oh jeez, was this going to come across as really creepy? She prayed to any god currently lending an ear that that would not be the case. ❝Are you... okay to stay out in the forest alone? Not that I doubt you are anything, no, but um— I do have space. In my house. Yeah. Just offering since I'm kind of the reason you stayed out too late.❞ Again looking for a distraction, Fiamma reached for her pants and focused a large amount of attention upon getting them back on her body. [attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever Cadence snrk’d and laughed at their splash war, and stopped once the two of them were pretty soaked, content to call it a draw. As her laughter wound down she found herself smiling at Fiamma’s good mood. She had been afraid Fiamma was just going along with her, but she seemed to be legitimately enjoying herself. Before she could say “uh huh suuuure” at Fiamma’s lame fishing excuse, the water hit her square on the nose and tongue, and she sputtered in surprise at the sudden flick of water. She was almost tempted to start another splash war for it, buuut she decided to let it go. This time. During their conversation, Cadence’s energy didn’t lose its edge. She gestured wildly, laughed fully, and carried on with the same excitement she had when they first arrived. But her excitement was equal to her patience. When it was Fiamma’s turn to talk, Cadence sat and listened, her eyes on her, and giving Fiamma her full attention; she didn’t did there with her next sentence prepped, waiting for a chance to say it; she waited her turn and was truly interested in hearing Fiamma speak. She liked her stories, or her thoughts, and found she was very easy to converse with. The only times she was distracted was when the sunset’s light glimmered off Fiamma’s scales during her smiles, and seemed to light up the dragon’s face with a soft glow. She tried not to stare at those moments, but there was no denying that she found Fiamma beautiful, and wished she could capture the moment here and save it. Unfortunately, time waits for nobody. Cadence climbed from the pool when Fiamma did, and was careful to keep her back to her. “Ah, just a second,” she said. She dropped down her wet underwear and pulled her bloomers back on; at least she had those, so she didn’t have to fly around with uncomfortable underpants. She shook herself dry one more time, and pulled her flowery dress back on over her head, lifting it high and maneuvering carefully (see: awkwardly) in order to fit her winged arms through the thin shoulder straps. Normally she just wore strapless dresses, but if there was enough room, she could manage with one with straps. Sleeves of any kind were out of the question. “Hm?” She turned to Fiamma at hearing her “Um.” Was it her, or did she seem nervous? Her face lifted in surprise at Fiamma’s offer. Now nervous herself, she closed her eyes and sheepishly waved her hand at the offer. The idea was nice. A house beat being exposed to the elements any day but… no, that would be intruding! “Aha, no, no, no, you don’t need to do that. I wouldn’t want to bother you; I’ve already taken all your time for today. It’s not so dangerous out, really; I just perch in a tree with a blanket for the night.” Her words were as flimsy as could be; she was never very good at hiding her feelings, and she felt like it would be way better in a warm cabin than a cold tree. She also admitted to herself that she wanted to spend some more time with Fiamma. A sleepover with her sounded like it could be pretty fun, and there was still so much she wanted to talk about! If Fiamma offered again, she’d accept the offer graciously, and tell her she was happy to stay on a chair or a couch or even on the floor, and that it was kind of her to do so much for her. [attr="class","foreign"] [attr="class","dust"] [attr="class","gold"]words: 613 [attr="class","gold"]only the cutest one to ever be held. probably. [attr="class","sun"]A Foreign Sun * I never thought I'd see Heh. She could accept getting the last splash in as suitable revenge. Cadence was simply too cute in almost everything she did (gods help Fiamma; she hadn't yet realized how quickly that charm would end up reeling her in) and it was an understatement to say that the little break for silliness had brought Fiamma's spirits buoying right back up. She would end up revisiting the solemn conversation in her thoughts later tonight, but for now? Those thoughts could be gently brushed aside in favor of enjoying the here and now.
Well, actually it was both that and wading through the awkward pitfall she'd stumbled her way back into. Fiamma just hadn't been sure to phrase such a question without seeming... presumptuous in some way— either taking advantage of Cadence's situation or looking down on the other magi's ability to handle herself alone —which showed in the way Fiamma picked her way around the words with audible uncertainty. Being the distrustful and paranoid sort, Fiamma herself would have looked oddly at such an offer even if she'd been in dire need. This made it natural for her to expect that Cadence might think the same.
And there was the rejection. On the upside, the air magi's reasoning seemed to be solely based upon assurances that she would be fine on her own so Fiamma could relax some. She'd succeeded in not coming across as a huge creeper. Great. ...still, Fiamma's first instinct was to resist that decision rather than just roll over and let it be, which led her to hesitate for a few long beats of silence.
❝You wouldn't be bothering me,❞ She made sure to clarify and shifted from foot to foot on the lush grass, one clawed hand coming up to scratch at the back of her neck. ❝I wouldn't have offered if I didn't want you around. And, anyway, it's not like you forced me to follow you across the forest and use up the whole day. I chose to come with you.❞
❝Also it's... kind of for my benefit, too? It'd keep me up to know that I left you to just sit the night out in a tree without offering some help.❞
That much was true. Fiamma already disliked the notion of leaving the other magi to fend for herself out in the wilderness (even if only for a night) without any real supplies or thought out plan. She'd contributed to Cadence's current dilemma, so the least she could do was offer a space under her roof since she both had the space and was reasonably confident that Cadence wouldn't attack her in her sleep. If she was wrong, well, Fiamma would just have to deal with a rude awakening in a few hours.
Her choice to press the issue ended up bearing fruit and, for that, the fire magi was glad she'd held her ground and tried asking again. A cool sense of relief bled out through her veins and Fiamma flashed a pleasant smile as she nodded. ❝There's a couch, and a spare room— but that one doesn't have a bed or anything in it. I have plenty of blankets and pillows to work for either.❞ So that decided it; she was going to have a house guest (the first in... ever) for the night. Fiamma was again struck by the reminder that she'd only known Cadence for less than a day but, honestly, that didn't serve to sway her decision in the slightest. No— she rather easily brushed any doubts aside and trekked towards where she'd left the full basket of peaches in preparation to be off.
❝I'm ready to go if you are.❞ [newclass=.gold]background-color:#fff;padding:2px;border-left:#222e8e 10px solid;font-family:century gothic;font-size:10px;color:#121b5e;width:120px;margin-top:10px;opacity:0;transition: 1s all;text-align:left;[/newclass] [newclass=.dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(1); filter: grayscale(1);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .dust]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .gold]opacity:1;transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign:hover .sun]-webkit-filter: grayscale(0); filter: grayscale(0);transition: 1s all;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar]background-color:#fff;width:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.foreign ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#666;width:1px;[/newclass] [googlefont=La Belle Aurore]
