It's a perfect day
won't you take a walk with me?
Oh my goodness. Althea was absolutely beaming. She loved the festival dedicated to her goddess. It was the one time where people naturally came together and found themselves at a place of worship and happiness to celebrate the gifts and passions that Arithelia had bestowed upon them. She had spent the majority of the week before getting ready, dusting here, talking to the various monks there, all in preparation for this one day. The First Day of Spring, and the day the goddess could walk among them.
Though this information was a secret that would be kept, and known by those who were trusted by the Divine Mother herself.
As her tail swished back and forth slightly, and her ears were perked, adorned with fresh flowers, anyone who knew althea, and even those who didn’t could see she was a happy cat. The zero magi observed the great room that many of the devout were gathered in. Seeing the various conversations happening she smiled even more. This was the one day where she wasn’t shy and hiding. She was proud to be a priestess of Arithelia. It brought her great joy.
In one corner she spotted one of her charges. It was the air magi that had collapsed on the temple’s doorstep a few weeks ago. It had taken Althea a longer time than she would have liked to help her charge replenish her energy. It wasn’t everyday she came across a patient that seemed to starve themselves for the goddess. One thing was sure, Althea knew Arithelia wouldn’t have wanted that for her child. As such she tried to convince the younger magi that things would work out, one way or another. She just needed to have faith in the goddess that had granted them their very existence. Althea certainly did.
She would approach the youngling and lay a calming hand on her shoulder. The squirrel magi would feel a pulse of calming energy course through her shoulder. It was one of the perks of being a zero magi. She could calm others, especially if they needed. The squirrel magi looked like she had needed some calming effects for her. “Bjarga, blessed be!” Althea’s smile would be wide and kind. Today was a day to be celebrated. “How are you feeling my dear? I hope the festival is treating you well?” Grinning she patted the sitting magi on the head, even though she was shorter, and it was a bit of a stretch, she was willing to show affection to her young charge. “How is your friend? Miss Mils?”1
In actuality, Althea was certainly more worried about the magi that had approached with Bjarga. Growing up during the time of the genocide had surely left emotional and physical scars on the girl, and as a therapist, she wanted to help. If that meant delving into memories and altering emotions Althea would only do so with the girl’s permission. She wasn’t going to step over that line ever again.
Spotting the glorious mane that was on the lion aspect magi, Althea would grin and wave in her direction. “It seems she was looking for you!” Grinning she nodded at Bjarga. “Make sure to experience all that Arithelia has to offer today. It is quite special.” There were many times in her youth that she remembered celebrating the festival of spring. Her family had been one that was lucky enough to afford to open their houses when it was the day of the festival, inviting all, even humans in the older era, into the home. “Blessed Arithelia granted us the day to celebrate all that she has given for us, make sure you enjoy it.” With a wink Althea would leave Bjarga as soon as Mil made her way over. She had other things to attend to in the temple for the festival.
The cat magi would go forward, looking around and making sure that none were causing a scene in her lady’s temple. Even if she was just a mere magi, she was also there to dissuade conflict. As such, she knew that it was important to promote the peace, kindness and unity that was needed in the temple and on this auspicious day.
Wandering forward Althea would use her walking stick to support herself. The day was a bit draining, but she knew she could deal with it. Today was too important for her to be tired. She smiled as she saw someone’s tail wag. Turning to face the youngling she grinned, catching onto her fellow magi’s enthusiasm. “I hope you are having fun my dear. May Arithelia bless you today, and we give thanks for her sacrifices.” 2
Althea knew it was a smidge odd that a cat magi was addressing a dog aspect magi, but she didn’t care. She had known too many that were slaughtered in the camps. She was glad that today was a day where all could rejoice, regardless of what type of magi they were. “I’m Althea Santos”. She would introduce herself to the obviously happy magi, and join in the conversation with her.
After a while her ears would twitch as she would hear a harshness of tones and emotions. Oh no there seemed to be trouble of sorts. Althea would smile to the wolf magi and nod. “Please excuse me, there seems to be something I must deal with.” The cat magi would pat the cheek of the wolf magi before leaving off in the direction of the harsh sounds. “Let me know if you need anything else.”
Her catlike eyes focused on what looked to be an opulent earth magi. What… what was he doing? The cat magi silently walked over to see what was going on. Another of the worshippers seemed to be upset about something. Was… was that a goblet of wine? She understood the festivities might call for it, but not in the chapel! That was downright disrespectful.
Her once calm fur would rise and her smile would now show her teeth. Oh she wasn’t very happy about this. Approaching the man she would lean on her walking stick. “Youngling, please do not drink within the temple’s main worship center.”3 Her clothes would echo that of the official robes, and any who visited the temple would know of the priestess. “You do not want to disrespect the sanctity of the goddesses worship.” It wasn’t a question. “If you wish to indulge in the consumption of alcohol, please evacuate to outside the main worship room.” Her smile would naturally relax as her tail twitched. “The gardens are blooming quite beautifully this year. May I suggest viewing them?” There were sure to be followers there as well. “Arithelia blessed us much this year.”
Althea would give a soft smile to the earth magi. “Would a youngling like you feel up to escorting me to the gardens?” If the earth magi chose to escort her, she would smile as they walked and take in all that the goddess had blessed them with this year. If the earth magi did not agree to escort her, Althea would nod and make her own way to the garden. The cherry blossoms were blooming most excellently this year.
As she approached the gardens Althea would unintentionally bump into a passerby. Glancing up the short cat magi would give a smile. “My apologies youngling, May Arithelia grant you your blessings today.” 4 The magi would observe the white haired magi with the fox ears. Ah, it seemed that this one was reveling in the worship as well. The simple touch would have revealed it to the zero magi. “Come find me again if you need me youngling, my name is Althea Santos, a priestess here.”
Althea would pluck one of the daisies out of her hair as she stood, one hand resting on her walking stick. “For you today, as a sign of the Divine Mother Arithelia’s blessing.” She would offer it to the white haired fox magi, who stood quite taller than she. The zero magi knew enough to know that today required kindness and consideration above all else. “I hope you enjoy the bounty that Arithelia has granted.”
Whether the fox magi chose to interact more with althea that was up to him. Either way, the priestess was convinced she must spread the joy of her goddess today. It was a day that she needed the goddess to experience. Hopefully it would help her regain some of her power. Sitting quietly on a bench in the gardens Althea would rest for a moment, a peaceful look on her face, and her tail unfurled in relaxation.
Everyone needed to take a break every once in a while.
As it was evident from her clothes, anyone would know she was a priestess of Arithelia, and thus was available to ask for questions. Her friendly demeanor was definitely calming and gave off an aura of being serene.
Althea’s eyes would gaze quietly among the denizens of the temple at the moment. Her eyes flittered across those of Kaveri’s, a water magi who was also dedicated to the service. She would give a small wave, and a giggle as he seemed to be glomped by a… was that a human? She did seem to remember a marriage of magi and human that had occurred a couple of months back. As long as they weren’t here to cause trouble Althea wouldn’t bring up conflict. Especially not on Arithelia’s day.
Her eyes would move towards another conversation happening. It seemed to be one of distraught, and Althea wasn’t sure what was going on. However, she really didn’t want any conflict on this day. Slowly standing she would approach the couple who seemed to be… scared? Her empathy was sensing distress, so she thought she would investigate.
The distress seemed to be coming from both parties and as she approached closer, the cat magi would offer a serene smile. “Greetings brother and sister of Arithelia, is everything all right?”5 She only wanted to be kind, and as she looked towards the two who seemed distraught her ears would twitch. “I’m Althea Santos, one of the priestesses of our Divine Mother Arithelia here.” She would give a slight bow towards the two of them. “May I offer assistance, I am a zero magi and have many talents.” She would wink towards the blue haired magi. “None should be distressed on such a fabulous first day of spring!”
She only wants to help the children of Arithelia today, and she intended to do so.
