[attr="class","frame"] [attr="class","background"] [attr="class","textbox"] [attr="class","post"]High above the entrance to the University lays a room few have ever been in, but all who have been to the school have seen. This room appears to be mostly barren; with wood floors, crimson red carpet, and no furniture besides a large U-shaped mahogany desk in the direct center. The round room had no walls; rather it is entirely surrounded in a glass dome. The synthetic glass always seems to reflect in a way that makes it unable to see in from the outside, and it prevented harmful rays from reaching those inside; even satellite images couldn’t see within. From the Inside, with the view of the city and the 360º-view of the school and the outlying mountains, you would consider it the most beautiful room in Felici. And it all belonged to the Headmaster. Yes, this room was the office of Ulrich Von Kaiser, and was one of the safest and most secured points in the entire school. There were no doors in, or out. Rather, there were Mark or Recall Runic circles that circled the perimeter. The Mark Circles were your ways in, The Recall Circles your way out. And each one led to different locations. The only way into the room from the school was to say the passcode in Olden language on one of the various Recall runes hidden throughout the school. A cup of black tea rested ever warm on the mahogany desk’s surface. Being headmaster had its privileges, beyond that of this gorgeous office, including a never-ending supply of runic ink to enchant anything he pleased, no matter how trivial. For example, the rune on his teacup meant to keep the contents at an exact temperature of 74.3 C. A rune on the left side of his desk could summon any number of objects from the School storeroom. That is if he needed it. A handy thing about being reborn is that you never get hung up on the old ways. Every time you reincarnate you still grow up with the new technology and that is established as a norm by the time you remember your past lives. As such, Ulrich had renovated this office with the most advanced hologram system available. There was not a single point in the office that a hologram couldn’t appear. Computer screens, phone calls, music, 3D modeling, it was all obsolete, and able to be reproduced as a floating hologram. Ulrich stood at the edge of the dome, looking out upon the facility, class was letting out and people were heading off campus. “Play ‘Rain’ by Silvard.” He said, hands clasped military-style behind his back. A hologram of a record player appeared next to him, setting down a record and began playing a beautiful Piano piece, While times and lives may change, his taste in music hadn't in over 9 centuries. As he watched his precious students make their ways home his mind focused on the future. Events have begun moving far faster than I anticipated. he thought, his grip tightening on his wrist. Zombies in Camlorn, Spirits going haywire on Mungu… No doubt the Magi will soon be up to something as well. he lifed his head and looked directly at the glass in front of him. “Gladys, Bring up the latest news.” He said, speaking to the AI that controlled his computer system. Unlike modern AI’s Gladys was programed with no will, no other functions beyond running his computer via voice commands. “Certainly!” she sang, “I’ll put the latest headlines per your usual settings in the window in front of you.” She had a cheery personality, one that Ulrich more often than not disabled for short spurts of time. But his work with psychology… 4? 5? Lifetimes ago? It demonstrated what a cheery servant does for the psyche. So he accepted the minor nuisance. The science was there. ”Reports from Fokradiin state that there has been an unusually high spirit activity in Revak Path. Four people missing in Strun’s Ice Caves of Schonheit, The mass murderer Ripley The Mad Dog is still at Large after his latest display at Pauvers Square. Wasser Cove has–” “That is all Gladys.” He said, His patience with the cheeriness at an end, he could very much read himself. His brow furrowed as he read the articles one by one. I’m sensing… more than just spirits and Magi have begun working. his brow furrowed and his eyes glared at the thought. Deities.A New Storm is brewing. And I am not some weak mechanic for this one. I’ll make sure this school is prepared. Humanity will come out on top once again. His mind focused on the seal on his hand, calling forth and focusing on every teacher’s command seals. “At 4, be in my office. There is going to be a change of curriculum. We have work to do.” The command echoed in every teacher’s head. They knew that there was no skipping this meeting, and went to go change their plans accordingly. However, there was one in particular that Ulrich wasn’t done with. “Inoue. Finish what you are doing and come now. Bring all the books on Battle Magic.”[attr="class","paper"] [attr="class","lock1"] [attr="class","lock2"] [newclass=.background]opacity:0;transition:1s;overflow:hidden;[/newclass][newclass=.frame:hover .background]opacity:1;transition:1.5s;transition-delay:2s;[/newclass][newclass=.paper]width:300px;height:432px;opacity:1;margin-top:-550px;margin-left:150px;background-image:url(http://i63.tinypic.com/5uom5j.png);transition:1s;transition-delay:1.7s;position:absolute;[/newclass][newclass=.frame:hover .paper]margin-top:0px;margin-left:150px;opacity:0;transition:1.5s;transition-delay:1.5s;position:absolute;[/newclass][newclass=.lock1]width:250px;height:310px;opacity:.7;background-image:url(http://i68.tinypic.com/25fr8z9.png);[/newclass][newclass=.lock2]width:250px;height:310px;opacity:0[/newclass][newclass=.frame:hover .lock1]opacity:1;transition:1s;[/newclass][newclass=.frame:hover .lock2]opacity:1;transition:1s;[/newclass][newclass=.textbox]opacity:0;background-color:#121212;border:solid 1px #b9acac;width:350px;height:570px;transition:1s;margin-top:20px;[/newclass][newclass=.frame:hover .textbox]opacity:.75;transition:1.5s;transition-delay:2.5s;[/newclass][newclass=.frame ::-webkit-scrollbar]width:7px;[/newclass][newclass=.post ::-webkit-scrollbar-track-piece]background:#444;border-left:3px solid #1a1a1a;border-right:3px solid #1a1a1a;[/newclass][newclass=.post ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#000;border:#444 1px solid;[/newclass][newclass=.post]text-align:left;color:#fff;font-family:Courier New;overflow:auto;width:340px;height:530px;overflow:auto;background-color:transparent;font-size:14px;[/newclass][newclass=.tags]margin-top:5px;text-align:left;color:#fff;font-family:georgia;overflow:auto;width:340px;height:20px;overflow:auto;background-color:transparent;border:solid 1px #444;padding:3px;padding-top:5px;[/newclass]

[attr="class","licred"]// NOVA // | [attr="class","libody"]The classroom whispered quietly amongst themselves as their professor remained still. Mid word had Dr Inoue paused to remain silently staring at the white board she had previously been writing on. Mid sentence, mid lecture had she gone quiet with her back turned to the students that continued to look on in growing confusion.
Em tilted her head as a second order echoed in her skull. This one directed at her specifically. By name. Gods, she hated when that happened. With a clearing of her throat the professor would recap the dry erase marker and turn to face the young people that had been staring at her back for the short amount of time that had passed (though it felt like an eternity due to the abrupt way the quiet had begun). "Unfortunately, class is going to be cut short today. Refer to your curriculums onto what tonight's assignment is. We'll pick this up tomorrow. You're dismissed." Without a moment's pause Emiko would gather what paperwork of hers had been about the desk into her briefcase and would leave the room herself.
A single text from her cellular device to the University's head librarian would already have the books being gathered at a faster rate than she ever could have. The faculty overall were extremely supportive of each other. Why wouldn't they be? They were all subject to the tattoo'ed curse. By the time Emi was approaching the library's front desk there was already a mostly filled book trolley. "Thank you." Em would whisper in ever sincere appreciation as the librarian added the last remaining novels. The glance shared between the two would express the phrase "good luck" most assuredly and with that Em would begin the long walk down the halls pushing the book trolley.
Eventually there she'd be. The grand intimidating door that led into the Headmaster's office. And there she'd remain. Standing. Waiting. Gladys would announce her arrival. A knock on the door would insinuate her showcasing an expectation to be serviced in the opening of the door. An odd fact of a professor's world that Emiko had learned the hard way through disciplinary measures after unknowingly expecting the Headmaster to jump to her beck and call by daring to knock on his door.

[attr="class","frame"] [attr="class","background"] [attr="class","textbox"] [attr="class","post"] “Headmaster. Professor Inoue has arrived.”Ulrich’s brow rose as he looked up from the papers on his desk. Immediately a hologram screen appeared in the air in front of him showing the security feed from the front door. His eyes shifted her and the time. Earlier than expected. he thought, surprised that he got things wrong for once. Good. “Let her in.” he said, casually waving the security feed away. Ulrich’s gaze went back to his papers; he had a current copy of the four-year curriculum that he implemented about twenty years ago. He had laid out each class meticulously back then. His students didn’t require learning these things; there were no signs of war at the time. Inwardly, he beat himself up for being so foolish. He should have prepared his students in advanced, expecting this to happen. And when the Magi broke out eight years ago he didn’t change the curriculum then either. He left the situation up to the hunters; let them rise in power. It was better to have strong allies anyway. From Inoue’s perspective, the doors would have opened to what looked like a fancy closet. Red carpet surrounding a varnished wood circle in the center. ”The Headmaster will see you now” Gladys said, the hologram AI giving a bow and gesturing towards the tiny wood pedestal. As a master of runes, Inoue would have been able to see the makeup of the glowing blue runic circle etched into the surface; Mark, Recall, Delay, Reverse, two Locate runes, all set up in a very efficient and artistic manner. A room with no doors is far safer than one with them. And that particular rune was programmed to locate and work in tandem with another, one that contained a password that is changed every week. However, This wouldn’t be the first time she would have seen this room, so much of this wouldn't have been much of a surprise to her. The doors closed behind the professor and the floating AI spoke again. ”Password this week is ‘Hydrargyrum’. Have a nice day!” the AI was cheery as usual, her programing unable to comprehend the true fear behind the headmaster. Even the password was a clue. Hydrargyrum was the scientific name for Mercury, and was the Headmaster’s favorite weapon. The passwords always tended to have a scientific or chemistry based theme, reason being it would “prevent any morons from entering the office”. But Mercury seemed to be a commonly reused theme throughout the years. With the password said, anyone and anything standing on the pedestal would be transported into the office. “Set the books on my desk.” Ulrich said as soon as he caught the shining of light from the corner of his eye. He straightened up the papers he had been shuffling through and leaned back in his chair. As he crossed his fingers in front of him you would have noticed a rare sight, Ulrich wasn’t wearing his usual white gloves. His hands were bare, allowing Emiko to see the one thing she probably feared most, the crimson command seal on the back of his hand. As usual there were no chairs in his office other than his own. Ulrich enjoyed how uncomfortable it made people, made things get done faster. “What do you know of combat runes Inoue?” Ulrich said, his green eyes telling nothing about his temperament. He spoke plain and unamused, but it was albeit more civil than how he usually was. It wasn’t a trick question; he had geared the university away from combat magic in his previous lifetime, focusing more on scientific and runic breakthroughs than military might. It was entirely possible for Inoue to have not been taught these runes or these concepts. He needed to know because he just simply didn’t want to waste his time explaining things he didn’t have to. [attr="class","lilyric"]am i allowed [attr="class","lilyric3"]to be happy now? [attr="class","lilyric2"] 讓我寫你的故事的結尾 [attr="class","litags"]oh gods. That's not good enough, is it? [attr="class","licred"]// NOVA // | [attr="class","libody"]Gladys. The tiny AI was always so cheerful. So bubbly, so welcoming. An exact opposite representation of how Emiko truly felt about entering the arena she'd spent time in before. It would be humorous if it wasn't sad. Such a tiny, dare we say, cute animated girl causing sheer fear and dread in the hearts of grown ass adults. Sad but true. Once that upbeat, always chipper, happy high-pitched voice greeted you kindly, you could feel your heart immediately pick up. Emi would nod once to the AI who spoke on behalf of their shared Head Master. Once again, a lesson she'd learned the hard way. It was wise to be respectful to all mediums the Head Master communicated in unless you wished to insult him. And believe me, that was never wished for. Pushing the small cart forward Emiko would hold her breath as the runes she'd experienced before did what they were written to do.
A sparkling light later and there she would be. The office. Those scarlet eyes immediately snapped to the one behind the intimidating desk. "Yes, sir." Emiko replied obediently as she pushed forward the cart. Pile after pile the professor would gingerly followed the order. How still her hands were in her job, her writings, her craft. Yet here, with this man who had successfully hooked a choke collar around her neck, always seemed to trigger a tremor. And oh how it worsened upon catching view of the sight that haunted her dreams. That damn tattoo. She rarely saw it in reality Em would realize at a later time of thinking back on this moment. It command seal was usually hidden away under a glove but here it was staring at her so openly. Funny how something so uncommonly witnessed could scar one's mind so severely. Damn thing was a near nightly performer in her nightmares.
There would be a pause. A moment of staring. It wouldn't last longer than three solid seconds but most assuredly the Head Master would notice. He was an acutely observant man. Whether she was chastised or not, Emiko would lower her gaze once again shortly after catching herself and would continue in the task that had been asked of her.
Upon completing the command she'd been given the professor would take the proper amount of steps back. It wasn't kosher to hover over the Head Master. It was not her desk to hoard over. All lessons learned the hard way in times past. Never once turning her back to the gentleman she loosely clasped her hands together in front of her, trying to find some semblance of comfort in herself. In that position, trying her best to hush the minor tremor causing her fingers to jitter and jolt, she would remain quiet. It was not her place to ask if she was dismissed. It was not her place to intrude on the Head Master's thoughts by speaking at all really. She would wait until he spoke of his next intentions or gave his next order. What came instead was a question.
An attempt to swallow the lump in her throat would be made but would find the action impossible with such a dry mouth. Combat runes. That wasn't her field of study. Not specifically at least. Had that honestly even been an option for a major when she was a student? Never really being able to read those green eyes of his was horrifying enough but not being sure if she could supply a satisfying answer was downright petrifying. Heart stopping. Vein freezing. Combat runes. "I know that any rune used creatively can be used for combat purposes, sir." Would be her answer.
She highly doubted that was what he had been searching for but it was the best answer that had come to mind. At least she didn't sound entirely uneducated with that reply. That was a plus. "I've been in combat situations in the line of work so I've used runes for the purposes of both offensive and defensive utilities. But without giving specific examples, sir, or reciting the University's history in successful research and development of such runes ...." Her heart might as well have splatted on the floor beside her heels. The paling of her face would most likely be telling of the immediate dread that washed over her. ".... I'm not sure I know much more than those, sir. I apologize. It wasn't my direct field of study."

[attr="class","frame"] [attr="class","background"] [attr="class","textbox"] [attr="class","post"]Ulrich gave a sigh, standing up as Inoue continued to give her boring, non-answer to his question. He got all he needed from the first bit, the rest he couldn’t give two shits about, in fact, he wasn’t going to sit through any more.
“Stop. Talking.” He interrupted her with a glare, the command seal on his hand glowing with a bright red glow. When her lips stopped moving he removed his petrifying glare and relaxed his posture. “Clearly you know nothing.” He said, his voice actually rather calm. “Which isn’t surprising…”
His eyes shifted through the collection of books, his hand tracing the spines as he talked. “After the second magi war there was a massive peace movement and the university got swooped up into it. We removed combat rune training from the curriculum, leaving only combat theory.”
He found the book he wanted, unfortunately it was five books down from the top. And he didn’t feel like using both hands to get it. His left was so comfortable set behind his back. “To give you the abridged version.” He said, pulling his finger back and flicking the top book off the pile and sprawling onto the floor. “There are 4 Combat runes: Pulse,” He flicked the next book onto the floor. “Spear” Flick. “Sphere” Flick. “and Volley” He flicked the last book onto the floor and grabbed the one underneath. “Based around the size and behavior of magic.”
He opened the book and began to flip through the pages as he continued. “Then to combat Magi, we can combine elemental runes like water and fire to change the nature of the spell, allowing it to overcome magi’s natural weakness.” He found the page he wanted, laying it out in front of Emiko so she can see it. The picture was of the circular relations the elements had. What elements were weak to which, including the sub-elements like ice and lightning. “Fire Sphere, Earth Volley, Water Pulse, Wind Spear. These rune combinations were powerful tools that we…” He paused as he frowned. Ulrich slumped back into his chair in disgust. “No. I just hid them under the rug to focus on scientific and theoretical experiments.”
The next book he needed was luckily right on top of the other pile. He didn’t open this one though, just picked it up and tossed it next to the other. The title on it read Focus: the beginner’s guide to runic focuses. “Focus gloves were an invention of mine that allowed faster and more precise runic casting. However, since they were viewed as weapons of war, they too were discontinued. However, I’m bringing them back and giving anyone with advanced rank in rune magic one.”
Ulrich got up from his chair and walked to the runic circle at the end of the U-shaped desk. “Bel. Morah” He said with a hand outstretched over the circle. The green light shone and sparked as he activated the summoning. When the light faded, a singular glove rested in the center.
“This one is yours.” He said, placing the glove on top of the guidebook. “Read up and start practicing. You and Ghislain will be overseeing the first class after I give the lecture on theory." He went over to the pile of books and sorted through them. And by sort, I mean he threw the ones he didn’t need to the side off his desk and placed the ones he wanted in a different pile. "These are the ones you’ll need to know by then. You have a week to prepare I’m sure you wont disappoint me.” Those words are usually comforting when said by someone of authority, but not from Ulrich. Those words were a threat, always. Do as he expected or faced the consequences.
“Understood?” He said, sitting back into his chair. After a moment of silence he remembered. “oh, right. Release.” The correct response was simply “Yes, Headmaster.” But he wouldn’t be overly opposed to answering any questions. Though the likely answer would be “You’ll find that out in one of the books there.” At the end of the discussion, he’d allow her to leave, only telling her to pick up and return the undesired books back to the library.

Any unconscious acts of defiance, no matter how minuscule, would be met with the sharpest electrical bolts of blinding pain. Emiko had experienced this version of hell (as she coined it) many times before. There was a unique skill that one had to learn through this process. Yet not one easily described.
Perhaps a close comparison would be, hm ... the ability to relax oneself even under harsh distress in order to not feel further uncomfort. The tattoo was rather particular in that front. Even if the body unconsciously jolted backwards, she would be punished for it. It was best to as quickly as possible fully submit. It wasn't worthwhile to fight when you were going to be forced to submit anyways, that's what Emiko had concluded years ago. It hurt too much to fight it.
With breath that refused to make sound and a mouth that halted in motion, Emiko's face paled to a white sheet's hue. That glare. It was enough to horrify her on its own. But this had been coupled with an order. To be enslaved in such a way, it was simply terrifying. Obviously she had not given the answer her Headmaster was looking for. But for once he seemed understanding of her short coming.
Scarlet eyes would watch on as the man explained. She listened to every word, never daring to remove her utmost attention from the one who held her leash. Em would flinch lightly at the first book falling to the floor. The rest would thud to the ground without so much as a blink. Instead she would lace her fingers together behind her back, the usual attempt of hiding her nerves from those cold observant stares.
Emiko's gaze would only lower when her Headmaster brought a page to attention. Indeed, even with her years of study and personal reading, she had only ever lightly read over these subjects. Upon further thought Em wouldn't have been surprised if a good collection of those books weren't available by the common student. The spoken rune would bring the appearance of a Runic tool that the young woman had never witnessed before.
Ulrich would have turned his back, tossing books aside with flippant air. Emiko's attention she allowed to remain on the new subject. Text book beneath, the glove lay staring back at her. Manicured fingers dared to reach forward, brushing against the material. How many others had worn this glove before her? How many others had there been against their wills but bound to absolute servitude? How many lives had this single glove snuffed out? What would the scales speak of this article underneath her skin? Had it blessed the world more than cursed it?
I'm sure you won't disappoint me.
Yes, she recognized the threat as it was. Returning her hand back behind her back, Emiko could do nothing but wait. She didn't dare play charades. Her Headmaster would find it insulting. Gods, she hoped he remembered before his anger reached the point of discipline. Hands would be trembling behind her back by the time Ulrich came to the epiphany on his own. The release from his previous order was relieving. As sudden as feeling a hot morning's shower, it was an instant sigh of relief. One that she didn't dare express outwardly of course, but inwardly there was a strange concoction of strains of an odd peace.
"Yes, Headmaster." Emiko's voice initially cracked from its brief silencing. The professor would clear her throat hurriedly to better state, "I understand, sir." She wouldn't dare ask any questions at this time. Any opinion based question she could think of would best be asked after she had the basics under her wraps. If she were to ask now it would be similar to a man asking a grand master taster any specialized advice learned over decades and decades of practice when the new taster had yet to tell types of simple juice apart.
There was no need to waste the master's time before the right time were to pass. Nor would Emiko even ask if there was anything else she could do to service her Headmaster. No. She would wait. If dismissed Em would bow as was custom of her Ikigain homeland. The woman would move to pick up the books that she had been told to take with her but not before eyed the glove ... and pulled it on. The material was exquisite, even the lining. Soft and pleasant against her skin, she tugged at the glove to make sure it was on snug.
This wasn't an accessory. This was her newest weapon. There was something sombering about knowing that blood would be shed through the use of the small five-fingered article now dressing her left hand. Chilling. Powerful. Each finger would fold down into her palm before stretching back out individually. This was a new era for her Headmaster to bring these out.
Scarlet eyes would narrow as she'd pick up the books she'd been instructed to. "Thank you, Headmaster." Emiko would say with a hastened shallower bow, not wanting to push her Headmaster's patience. This was a new era. The gloved hand gripped the novels tighter as she exited. Determination was clear in her stride. One week. If anyone could do it, she could. And she fucking would.
