Even as a human, living in Felici had its hazards— especially when one happened to be involved in the more “untoward” side of things, as Theron was. Trouble was not a difficult thing to come by. But in the case of today, he’d been mostly minding his own business. With his joints crying for a break after a series of demanding drug runs, and the remaining jobs left in the capable hands of his employees, he had elected to take some time off to recover. It had been a good while since he’d taken anything like a vacation anyway, so why not?
For a while, he’d even managed to do a decent job of keeping his nose out of trouble. No fights or shootouts, no high-speed chases through the city, not even a blackout after a long night at a bar. But all things end some time, and in Theron’s case, that end came in the form of a particularly vocal Hunter.
It was getting to be late afternoon in Felici, and Theron was on his way home after a day spent seeking some more replacement furniture and a few other necessities. Unfortunately, his progress was interrupted by a series of loud slurs echoing down one of the streets ahead of him. Rounding a corner, he found the source to be someone armed and dressed in a way that only one of the local Hunters would have been, and the victim of the day to be a tallish woman with fiery hair and an eyepatch. If it hadn’t been for the loudmouth, he might have mistaken her for human at that distance.
As he approached, it occurred to him that he could have just kept walking, and maybe should have. It would have been the smarter thing to do. But for the time being, Theron chose to ignore that particular little voice in his head.
Once he was close enough, he moved to position himself between the pair. “Don’t you have some puppies to kick or somethin’, Cupcake?” he asked the Hunter, crossing his arms. “S’gotta be better than busting a lung like that, yeah?”

A ll Aurelia had wanted to do was make a simple delivery and be away from this city as soon as possible. She hated coming to Felici with such a passion that it made her skin crawl just thinking about going there. Not only was it the proverbial center of human racism against magi, but it was also home to the bloody Hunter’s Guild. Adding to those facts that Camp 13 had been scarcely a mile from the city and it formed an equation that made her reluctant to chance a visit, even when money (of which there was a substantial sum) was involved; she planned to get out of the city as soon as her delivery was made. How unfortunate that someone somewhere seemed to have different plans. She’d been leaving for the train station when a Hunter that smelled more of alcohol than anything else stopped her. She tried to ignore the initial flash of fear when she heard him sniffing the air and saw the lopsided grin crack his face. “Hey there, girly,” he slurred. “It ain’t safe for your kind to wander around ‘ere. Lemme take ya somewhere. I’ll take care of ya.” Aurelia’s voice was seized by terror as the Hunter grabbed her hand and started dragging her into an alleyway. She fought back weakly, but the hunter was much stronger than she was. Aurelio started fuming in their shared body, trying to seize control and put up some sort of fight. Aurelia shut him down before he could do something stupid; the best thing to do right now was to wait for an opening and make a run for it. The drunken Hunter stopped and pressed her against the wall, leering at her in a way that made her skin crawl. “Hey, you’re kinda cute. Why don’t we have a little fun, yeah?” He gripped her chin and tried to kiss her, but Aurelia turned to her head to the side just before their lips could meet. She pushed against his chest in attempt to free herself. ((OOC notes: You're fine. ^^ Feel free to take control of this hunter and kick his ass.)

Apparently the other man hadn’t noticed him, or was too distracted with his quarry to care. He was drunk enough that it was hard for Theron to tell which was the case. Either way, the situation had begun to escalate, as the Hunter had started to drag the poor woman off into some side street before he could get close enough to stop him. Spitting out a curse, he sped up to follow after the pair.
On arrival, he found the red-haired magi pinned to the wall beneath the horrid excuse of a human being in a way that was neither entirely expected, nor okay. At all. Forgetting any potential regrets he might have for getting himself involved, Theron stormed forward to grab the Hunter by the back of his shirt before he could make another go at an unwanted kiss.
For once, he didn’t even bother with a wisecrack while he ripped the Hunter away from his would-be victim. He just wrapped an arm around his neck, holding it tightly in place with the other to cut off the Hunter’s air supply— a feat made easier by the fact that he was drunk, and therefore a lot slower to react than he could have been.
Unfortunately, the guy still had it in him to struggle, namely by backpedaling until he had slammed Theron against the opposite side of the alley. The impact hurt, but wasn’t quite jarring enough to make him lose his grip. The same could be said about the second, but luckily enough there wasn’t a third. Starved for breath, the Hunter soon fell limp and unconscious, at which point Theron dropped him unceremoniously on the ground.
He stared at the body for a moment or two, nudging him with the toe of his boot to make sure he wasn’t going to get up any time soon. Then, if the magi was still there, Theron would glance up and offer a sheepish half grin. “I think he needed to be put down for a little nap, don’t you?” Dropping the grin for a more serious expression, he would add, “You alright?”

'G et off of me!' Aurelia shouted, half pleading and half defiant. beat a clenched fist ineffectually at the hunter’s chest. He was too close for her to get any respectable kind of force behind her blows. She briefly thought about reaching for the gun she felt brushing her thigh, but the last thing that she needed on her hands was a dead hunter. Fight back, Sis! Kick ‘im in the balls ball or somethin’, then run for it when he goes down! Aurelia felt her brother attempt to take control and do just that and he almost succeeded in it. The only thing that stopped him from using her knee to nail the bastard hunter between the legs was the fact that someone was pulling him away. She stared flabbergasted at the black-hair man that came to her rescue wrapped his arm around the would-be assailant, flinching each time the pair thudded against the wall. Then the struggle was over and the hunter fell limply from the man’s grasp. He spoke to her, asking if she was alright. Why would a human care about her well-being? She was grateful either way, and it showed in the way that she ran over to him and wrapped him in her embrace. Her fingers laced themselves into the fabric of his shirt as she buried her face in his chest. “Thank you.” The words were muffled but no less sincere for it. Human or not, the man had saved her. Wow. Nice play on a cliché, Sis…Shut up, Aurelio.

Well, at least the redhead hadn’t booked it right out of there the second she was free. Although, at the moment Theron wasn’t quite certain whether that was good or bad. Good meant she wasn’t afraid of him after the stunt he’d just pulled. Bad would probably entail shock, which often led to bolting as soon as a recovery was made. Or screaming or something. None of the potential outcomes were particularly appealing.
And in the end, she did start running— just not away. Caught somewhat off guard, Theron staggered a little as her weight hit him, but was able to catch himself quickly enough. For a few moments, he stood stiffly, with his arms held away from the woman while she took to clinging to his shirt. Considering what had just happened, he wasn’t entirely sure how to go about the situation, but eventually decided on a loose, careful hug in return. That would be fine, right?
“Eh, don’t worry about it,” he answered, shrugging as though he hadn’t just assaulted a Hunter in public. “Seemed like you could use the backup.” Speaking of… Theron looked up, eyeing their surroundings for any sign someone had seen them, and was getting ready to call in the authorities. Though nothing immediately caught his attention, the fact remained that he wasn’t all that eager to stay put, given the unconscious Hunter at his feet.
With that in mind, he attempted to gently direct the rattled Red back toward the main street. “Anyway, we probably shouldn’t hang around here too long, yeah? Come on.” If the woman proved unresistant, he would lead her back out of the alley, and off in the direction they both had been walking in previously. “You live around here or something?” Unlikely, given she was a magi, but it was still worth asking. “I can walk you home if you want.”

Y eah, that’s putting it lightly, bud. Good thing that this guy happened to be around, huh, Sis? Aurelia could practically hear the victorious tone in her brother’s voice. His constant preaching that of the mantra “not all humans are bad” was given credence by the black-haired man’s actions. It only served to compound upon the example of “human decency” Diya had shown back in Camlorn and he knew it; more importantly, he knew that she knew it and that fact stung her minuscule pride more than she cared to admit. She wasn’t used to being wrong where her brother was concerned. Aurelia pulled her face out of her rescuer’s chest and looked up into his face with a small grin. “Thank you again. I’m not really a fighter. I just own a flower shop.” The pleased expression faded when she noted the way his head turned on a swivel, scanning their surroundings. A thought occurred to her that he might be searching for anyone that may have notice the scuffle and she felt a flash of fear pass through her chest; they were both standing in an alleyway with an unconscious hunter at their feet, a crime that was made worse by the simple fact that she was a magi. Saying that it was a bad situation to be in wouldn’t cover the half of it. She was quick to nod her head when the man suggested that they both leave and offered no resistance when started guiding her away. She shook her head at the next question. “My flower shop is in Dagos and so is where I live. I was about to go to the train station when that guy jumped me.” She clutched at the hem off his shirt as they walked to keep him close and, if the need arose, us him as a sort of shield against any hunters that her eyes continually scanned for. “I just wanted to make a delivery…”

Of all the things in the world this magi could have been… she owned a flower shop. Oddly enough, the knowledge added an extra twist in his gut. She owned a flower shop, and was basically harmless, and this Hunter had… Well, never mind. Nothing had happened— Theron had seen to that himself— and she was safe now. Mostly. If nothing else, they were on the move now, and soon enough they would put the unconscious Hunter well behind them. Hopefully, he wasn’t the type with a good nose.
While they walked, Theron kept an arm wrapped loosely around the redhead’s shoulders, attempting to create a reassuring presence. Unfortunately, though, the Hunter wasn’t the only problem they had to worry about. The news that the magi lived all the way out in Dagos brought a faint frown to his face. Getting her back, at least right now, would be problematic. “Dunno if the trains will still be running by the time you get there,” he told her, not wanting to disappoint, but knowing she probably needed to hear it anyway. “It’s getting pretty late…” Even if they ran, they probably wouldn’t make it before the last passenger train left for the night.
Then came that last, quiet little comment to bring an odd feeling to his chest. She just sounded so upset… Not that he could blame her. “Aw, c’mon. It’s not like it was your fault, yeah?” The arm around her shoulders offered a gentle, reassuring squeeze. “Some people are just… creeps.” And that was putting it far too nicely.
Theron was quiet for a while after that, lost in thought. Maybe… “Look, I know we’re still pretty much strangers, but my apartment is only a couple blocks from here. If you want, you can stay the night, and catch the first train in the morning. Sound good?” If she agreed, he would begin leading the way back to his place. If not, he would stop to wait until she told him whatever plan she’d rather follow.

'G ood point,' Aurelia agreed. Her heart practically dropped into her shoe to admit it, but it seemed as though she would be stuck here; in Felici; surrounded by people that hate her for being magi. The thought of it was enough to make her tremble. She decided that she truly did hate this city. There wasn’t enough time to consider the thought as she felt the man beside her give her a reassuring squeeze. A brief moment passed where she felt heat rushing to her cheeks. “Y-yeah” Her gaze fell to the sidewalk, which happed to have gained some rather interesting qualities. Aurelio groaned at his sister’s abrupt shift to shyness; that she could be so unbelievably timid was simply amazing to him at times. Thankfully, Aurelia had become so intent on distracting herself with counting her steps that he control was slipping; he decided to take the chance to capitalize on that. Aurelia’s lips twitched upwards into a faint ghost of a grin as her face turned just enough for the man to see. “But I guess that you aren’t so bad. A lot better than most guys actually.” Though her lips formed the words and were spoken with her voice, Aurelia was still shocked when they left her throat and it showed in the way her eyes widened as she reasserted control over her own body. He gaze quickly darted elsewhere to avoid meeting that of her impromptu savior. “I… um, didn’t mean…” Damn it, Aurelio, why do you always do that!? All she could hear for several seconds was Aurelio’s laughter. She hated him for it. What? It’s not like you don’t wanna say it anyway, so why not say it?!Just because that’s true…She discarded the thought when her savior spoke to her again. “You’d let me do that?” Aurelia searched the man’s face for anything that seemed suspicious to her. Upon finding nothing immediately pressing, she sighed softly. “I suppose that would be alright,” Aurelia said, smiling up at him. “Thank you again.” You’re sayin’ “thank you” a lot, Sis.~Shut. Up.
The crash of a nearby trashcan tipping over caused her to jump. She clung tighter to the man at her side and looked into yet another alley, eyes wide with fear. A tomcat wandered out into the open with a fish bone between its teeth. It eyed the pair briefly before bounding away and leaving Aurelia to release a breath that had hitched in her chest. "Sorry." I bet you aren't. You get to cling to a hot guy.Shut up! Shut up!!

Though he did catch the sudden tinge of pink appearing in the redhead’s cheeks, Theron didn’t react to it visibly, as doing so would probably only have made her more uncomfortable. Instead, he just flashed her a small smile, and kept walking. Whatever time she needed to reassemble her nerves, he was willing to provide…
Which, apparently, wasn’t all that long. The next words to come out of her mouth, complimentary as they were, earned her first and foremost an amused snort, followed by a slightly widened smile. “I have my moments,” he told her, deciding not to add in a cheeky wink when he noticed the look on her face when she came to realize what she’d just said. To tell the truth, it was kind of cute. “Deep breaths. It’s alright.”
Theron’s smile finally shifted toward a full-fledged grin when Red accepted his offer. “Don’t worry about it— I don’t mind.” Now that they had a clear direction, he picked up the pace a little, and led them around a corner onto a street that would take them to his apartment. “Come on—“
A sudden clanging in a nearby alley diverted them briefly, and he did not fail to notice how tightly his companion was clinging to him, even after the feline culprit had sauntered off. “It’s alright,” Theron assured, giving her another soft squeeze at the shoulder.
Once the magi had relaxed a little more, he would lead her onward, until eventually they came to a clearly upper-class part of the district. “I’m Theron, by the way,” he told her while he directed the two of them toward his apartment building. From there, he would lead her on a quick trip through the mostly-empty main lobby, and into an elevator at the back of the room. A quick press of a button later, they would be on the move upward, then down a hall once the elevator opened again, toward the door of his apartment.

A urelia sighed. “Stupid cat..." She continued to cling to Theron for protection even after the “danger” passed. She’d given up on trying not to do so because the simple gesture was enough to calm her. Something about knowing that there would be someone more… substantial to protect her was comforting. Hey, at least it gave you an excuse to hang on to the tall, dark hottie right there, huh? May as well just roll with it, am I right? Please just shut the hell up, Aurelio. I’d like not having to deal with you for tonight, okay?No prob, Sis. If ya wanna be left alone with the hottie for a little while, I won’t bother ya!That’s not what I… Aurelia let the statement fall short of its conclusion. Her brother had already found his victory and was savoring it prematurely as he always did. Gods knew that she was usually cleaning up his messes because of it. She hoped that the rest of the night would have fewer surprises, but fate seemed to have other plans. Her eyes widened when they took a turn and the quality of the buildings surrounding them increased dramatically. She’d heard that Felici was—despite its many glaring faults—beautiful, but seeing and hearing were two vastly different concepts. “I’m Aurelia,” she said breathily. “You… live here?” It wasn’t long until she had her answer and they were traveling through a lobby that was almost completely devoid of activity. An older woman gave the pair a seemingly knowing smile as they passed by; Aurelia’s check flushed bright pink at the implications in that smile and allowed her grip on Theron to loosen a notch once they entered the elevator. Not long after, they were standing in front of the entrance to what she guessed was the man’s apartment. The tension drained from her body now that safety was within her reach and relief prompted her to finally release Theron enough for him to open the door, though she maintained a grip on his arm. ((OOC: Hopefully this works. Sorry about the wait. >_>))

“Aurelia,” he repeated slowly, testing the feel of the name on his tongue. It was a somewhat unusual one, he thought— but then again, so was his. Still, it had a nice sound to it, and seemed to suit the magi at his side rather well. Smiling, Theron moved to unlock and open his door. “Nice to meet you.” Even if it wasn’t in the best way, he thought. “Yeah, I do. It’s a decent place, but the neighbors are kinda boring.” He shrugged, then led the way inside. “Not much else to complain about, though.”
The space they entered was decently large as apartments went, open and tastefully furnished. The last remnants of his brother’s visit had long been cleared away and replaced, leaving a brand new chandelier and pair of arm chairs sitting in the living room along with the couch. A rug covered smooth wood flooring in the sitting area, and a television and entertainment system covered one wall across from the couch. To one side of the space, a kitchenette could be found, including a counter that doubled as a bar on the outer side, complete with three stools. A proper table and chairs sat nearby, next to a set of windows that looked out over the rest of the city outside. Opposite, a short hallway ended in two doors that led to his bedroom and bathroom.
Once the door was shut and locked again behind them, Theron would lead Aurelia toward the couch, before making a beeline for the kitchen. “Go ahead and make yourself comfortable, alright?” Pausing by a particular cabinet, he glanced over to his guest before opening it. “You want a drink?” Whether or not she did, he still planned on one for himself, and set about finding a glass while he waited for her answer.

B oring neighbors? The idea that that was the largest of Theron’s concerns managed to illicit a short giggle that Aurelia tried to hid. She wasn’t even sure of why it was funny, but it seemed a silly thing to think about and she laughed all the same. “Thanks a lot. I needed that.” Aurelia followed the man inside, which proved to be just as well anointed as the outside. She uttered a quiet “wow” upon entering a space that was far larger than anything that she or Aurelio would ever need. Truth be told, she wouldn’t have really wanted to have that much space just to the two of them; she suspected that she might feel a touch… lonely. She gave a distant grunt by way of answering Theron’s invitation and found herself a spot on the couch. It was at that point that she fully realized the situation that she was in: alone in a stranger’s home—an attractive stranger’s home. Her posture stiffened as the full brunt of the epiphany struck her like a hammer blow delivered directly to the skull. She looked down at her hands where they rested to avoid looking after Theron when he headed for the kitchen. Ladies and Germs, Aurelia Rhodes and her infamous embarrassment routine. Ain’t she just adorable? Please just stop…Ah, come’on, Sis. Loosen up a little bit, huh? It’s not like ya gotta sleep with the guy, right? There was a telling pause. I mean, you gotta wonder what’d it’d be like, though. Thanks for being a shining example of an older brother…Hey, someone’s gotta be the fun around here! Don’t be such a prude!Aurelia pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. “Yes please.”

The giggle had been a good sign, he thought. It meant she was relaxing, loosening up a little… and, hopefully, that she really did feel safer here. Although, even from the kitchen Theron could tell Aurelia might still be a little nervous. The stiff posture and the way she stared at her hands were telling, and maybe just a little bit cute, but for now he wanted to focus on ensuring the magi felt comfortable here.
He flashed a grin when she accepted his offer of a drink, and went to fetch a second glass for her before moving on to peruse the contents of the liquor cabinet. “What’s your poison?” Theron asked a moment later, glancing back over his shoulder. Although there probably weren’t going to be any fancy cocktails mixed that night, he did have a decent selection to choose from. Whatever Aurelia asked for, he would bring to her, along with his own glass after he filled it with a decent amount of rum.
Once he had handed off the second glass, Theron would plop down on the opposite end of the couch, and take a few quiet sips from his glass before speaking. “I don’t have a guest room or anything, but the bed’s yours for the night if you want it. I’ll get out some extra blankets and stuff later, sleep on the couch.” He paused for a brief moment, thinking. “And, you know, if there’s anything else you need, just let me know, yeah? I’ll do what I can.”

A urelia paused to think about the question. She’d never actually gone out drinking of her own volition before seeing as her brother did that often enough for the both of them combined, much to her chagrin. From what little she remembered from Aurelio’s many drunken escapades, a favorite drink of his was bottled beer. She personally couldn’t stand the taste, but she didn’t mind the taste of wine. It wasn’t heavy in alcohol content and it was reasonably sweet, which was something that she appreciated. “I don’t really know that much about alcohol,” she admitted, “but I think I’d be fine with just a glass of wine for now.” She nodded to herself, smiling victoriously at the groan her brother gave in response to her choice in drinks. Com’ on, Sis. Ya gotta live a little louder than that! The protest in his voice was both amusing and annoying to her. Have him break out the tequila or something heavy like that! Have fun!Aurelia opted to ignore her brother rather than indulge him. “And would you mind bringing the whole bottle, please? Today’s been… a little rough; I’ll pay you back when I can.” She smiled shyly when Theron returned with her glass regardless of whether he brought the bottle with him as requested. A few tentative sips brought a smile to her face as she eased contently into the couch cushions. Already she was starting to feel better about the situation she found herself in. Theron seemed to be a good man (for a human) and the opinion only cemented itself in her head when he offered to sleep on the couch so that she could take the bed. “Thank you. That’s sweet.” She paused briefly to take another sip of wine before speaking again. “Somehow I doubt that you say that to girls very often; sleeping in the same bed as you might not be such a bad thing.” … three… two… one…Aurelia felt her face flush bright red as the reality of what she’d just said came crashing down on her like a landslide. “N-not that I meant anything by that! I just meant that you’re handsome and thoughtyoumighthavegoodluckwithwomen and… and…” The redhead was fairly fuming when she finally gave up on recovering her poise and looked away, draining her glass in two large gulps before pouring herself another drink (or asking for another glass if Theron had neglected to bring the bottle). She then proceeded with an attempt to lose herself her drinks, draining two more glasses far more quickly than she intended and starting on a fourth. Well, this oughta be interesting. Aurelio waited with interest as he felt a fuzzy feeling begin to gloss over his sister’s usually logical and prudish thoughts. He wondered how many more drinks it would take for her to start feeling the effects. Not long, he wagered.

Wine, was it? He could do that. Shrugging, Theron spent another moment or so picking out one of the better bottles he had (at least in his opinion), saying, “Eh, don’t worry about it. Wine it is.” He’d joined Aurelia on the couch soon after, although he’d had to quickly double back to bring the bottle along too, unable to entirely suppress a faint, slightly amused smirk as he did so. “Don’t worry about paying me back— it’s on the house, alright?” he told her as they both settled in with their respective drinks, gently waving off her offer. It was just one bottle, after all, and after the night the magi had had, it was an easy thing to give.
He was in the middle of another sip when the magi began blundering with her words, and had to fight not to spit out his drink while she dug herself into a deeper and deeper hole. “You’re fine, Aurelia,” he answered after a moment, grinning lopsidedly while he stifled a snicker. A hand rose to rake through his hair while he worked out what more to say. “I, uh…” Then came a shrug. “No, I usually don’t say that to the people I bring home, but I also usually meet them under better circumstances.” Although if he were being honest with himself, he wouldn’t have minded sharing the bed with Aurelia, either.
Both of his eyebrows shot up as he watched the embarrassed magi down her first glass of wine, then another, and another, while he worked on his own buzz at a slower pace. “It’s alright, yeah? he tried, hoping to help her relax a little. “No harm done or anything.”
