BRIEF HISTORY The origins of Runes date back to the end of the Mystic Era around the year 1250. Discovered by the first Headmaster, Dr Belenus Alain. The Doctor was a noted Historian as well as one of the highest human authorities of the Mystic Era during that time. The Runic University would be founded within the same decade and would declare to be an Atheistic organization in the year 1991. As the only University in the world that taught its craft, it is arguably the most influential establishment in the world. It played a large roll in skyrocketing Felici into the booming Capital city we know today.
A fact that is kept hidden is the part Irilys played in the University's origins. Dr. Alain was actually a follower of the Great Owl Irilys, God of Knowledge. It would be together that discoveries would be made and a further understanding of a rune's properties would be learned.
THE RUNIC PRACTICE AND FUNDAMENTALS Runic Magic is a type of magic that is not genetically passed to the next generation (like Magi Magic is) but taught in a University. By writing symbols of the ancient Olden Language in a specific type of ink you are able to perform tasks that would be classified as "magic". The symbols act as a pathway, an instruction manual, for the magic of the ink to flow. Without those symbols the raw power of the ink has a very wild and destructive response to the world. A complete understanding of both is absolutely required to learn Rune magic.
Runes must be precise. Runic Ink is quasi-sentient. It "understands" Olden Language, but only if it's flawless. Any miss-stroke, any dashes missing, and the ink can react violently. A number of lives have been lost from Runic students misspelling their Ignite rune and burning the entire dormitories to the ground; an even higher amount of missing limbs or added abnormalities have been reported. Because of this, the University has become incredibly strict on the usage and distribution of Runic Ink. Very few students are allowed ink, and absolutely no one out side of the University can obtain it.
Listen to Teacher! Cyborgs are not permitted in the University. Official reasoning is that the Runic Ink reacts poorly with machinery. In truth, Cyborgs are seen as impure and are forbidden.

A majority of runes consists of a single character. However, more often than not, you will need to add more details or instructions so the magic will work the way you need. This process is capable through the use of a Runic Circle. They range from very simple to very complex rune paragraphs. Following a clockwise motion from the top, the magic works very similar to computer code. there's an order of operations that it follows. Actions that need to be done first like locating or delaying happens at the top, while secondary like fortifying or suppressing comes later.
A simple circle usually consist of a single rune and instructions. A Complex rune consists of 2 to 3 simple runes in a single circle. However, once you get up to expert and master level you have Complex runes within Complex Runes. A master of Runes can have easily up to 8 runes in a single rune.
There are Many parts to a Rune, each one is important, regardless of purpose:
- Central Rune: Determines the main purpose for the rune. If all else fails, the magic will default to this effect.
- Inner Shape: Most runes come with an Inner shape that helps determine Priority. The higher amount of points the shape has, the higher that priority is.
- Outer Instructions: a Majority of runes need instructions. whether it's a simple rune or a rune within a complex rune, each one needs to know what to do. These outer instructions define that and are always written in Olden language.
- Outer Ring: The circle that contains the Rune.
- Outer Runes: Marks a Complex rune. The order of circles is read in a clockwise pattern starting at the top of the rune. As the rune rotates around the circle, it too rotates. S o for instance, if a rune is placed in the 6 o'clock position, it would be upside-down.
- Other Characters: Remember that bit about The ink being quasi-sentient? Well one very stupid student one day decided to "decorate" his rune using a couple different ancient alphabets. They acted as space filler, purely aesthetic. Sometimes it spelled out the author's name, others just related words. And yet, somehow, the rune worked better. Turns out, the ink responded well to a more artistic rune than a strict and boring circle. It's up to the rune user to find a balance between that Aesthetic and keep it from cluttering. Special characters can increase performance by about 10-20% if done properly.
Listen to Teacher!Magic circles have very extensive uses. It allows you to change how exactly you want your rune to act. However You cannot use that to try to make a new rune. The end result must only be manipulated. Not changed. If you want to have a new rune made, place it in the Suggestion box.

After a lengthy period of time studying the Olden Language you have now been given your first small amount of ink to practice. Well done, student. You can now do Simple Magic Circles with very basic Instructions. *** Your max circle count is 1.
Fiik (FE-eek)| Mirror | 鏡 The entire paper will become a reflective surface now acting as a mirror. It is when the paper is ripped that the spell ends. If placed on a hard surface, The same effect applies. However the effect will end within 12 hours and max size is a 2-meter circle Panaas (pah-NAHS) | Flashlight | 光
A common practice is to roll up the paper so as to resemble an actual flashlight allowing the beam to be more focused. It is when the paper is ripped that the spell ends. Otherwise whatever the rune is written on begins to glow dimly. Kiinyol (KEEN-yol)| Ignite | 焰 A simple but potentially dangerous rune. After completion the rune lights on fire and anything it is written on is lit as well. The Rune only creates fire for approximately 30 seconds, however what catches fire stays on fire until going out by natural means. Divek (DE-vek)| Glue | 胶 Instantly makes the surface of a piece of paper or small object highly adhesive. While the bond is strong, the rune itself can easily be destroyed via heat or water. Miin (Me-een)| Falcon's Eye | 眼 Drawn within a circle, you can see objects on the other side of whatever wall you write it on. Tinshimeth (Tin-SHE-meth)| Chameleon | 蜴 This Rune changes color of the target. Often, teachers genuinely use to teach the importance of writing out details thoroughly. For example, specifying to color one's hair blue so that the Rune does not shift the entire person blue (eyes, teeth, skin, etc). Zok Korav (Zok ko-RAV)| Magnifying Glass | 放大鏡 The entirety of the paper will turn transparent with the added bonus of magnifying what is beneath it as well. It is when the paper is ripped that the spell ends. Sahrot Korav (SAH-rot ko-RAV)| Telescope | 望遠鏡 With this spell the paper is commonly rolled up to more resemble a telescope. Peering through, far away sights will appear clearer and with sharper clarity. Listen to Teacher! At this level you should be more competent than your average student. Congrats you're a special snowflake. But be warned. The Headmaster doesn't tolerate ineptitude from students with ink. So make sure your choices are smart ones.

You are careful in forming each and every stroke (when being tested at least) and have memorized the symbols thus far given you. Mahah (Mah-HAH)| Delay | 延 A rune that can only be used in conjunction with another rune. Once inscribed, this rune will prevent another rune from triggering until a specified condition is met. This can be anything simple, such as X amount of time elapsing or physical contact. But more often than not, it holds the activation until the name of the rune is called. Chazaq (cha-ZAK) | Fortify | 棐
A Conceptual rune, meaning it works on very concepts in reality. In the hands of a Master this rune can better the nutrients in food, the impact of a speech and the very killing power of a bullet. However in your current hands you can Muster the ability to sharpen a Blade, strengthen a shield, or quicken the rate of fire in a gun
Chihua (Chi-Hwa)| Magnetize | 磁 Anything attached to this rune has an increased electrical charge, pulling metallic objects towards the rune for a set amount of time within ten feet. Cannot pull metal objects over 25kg Masta (ms-TAH)| Locate |找 A Locator Rune. Often used to teach the importance of detail. What you're searching for, who your searching for, and if you have a particular source (i.e. A bullet), How you use that source to get your desired result (find the gun that shot the bullet). The Location Rune a difficult rune and is Confirmed to be on the test to increase to Advanced rank. However it has been noticed that magic provides an interference with this rune, making magi, haven, artifacts, and deities impossible to find in this matter. This Rune is always used with the Summoning runes.
Zahkrii (zah-KREE)| Create Blade | 刀 When finished in writing the symbols the paper will then harden and sharpen into a material that can slice stone. Very handy for a quick weapon, unless you need specifics. Rakak (Rah-kak)| Lighten | 輕 Once the Rune makes contact it will adhere itself to that item and will decrease its weight in accordance to the details written in the circle. Kabed (KAH-bed)| Encumber | 俁 Once the Rune makes contact it will adhere itself to that item and will increase its weight in accordance to the details written in the Circle.
Manûl (Man-ool)| Lock | 鎖 Upon writing the Rune on a piece of paper, the paper will in essence become a magical lock. The paper can, for example, be slapped on a door to supernaturally seal it shut until certain criteria are met as according to its details (a blood drop of the writer, their signature, their fingerprint, etc). Nakar (Nah-CAR)| Identify | 認 Rune users utilize this spell in varying ways. Regardless of how you use it, it allows you to identify magic. It makes all magics glow or shimmer in differing hues depending on what kind of magic it is; Enchanted items will, religiously blessed items, people who are cursed, even Magi and their magical bounty (example: a magically created flame). Pa'al (pah-ALL)| Spin | 紡 Causes the target to spin or rotate to the speed and axis desired. Spin is very hard to get correct if you are not familiar with 3-axis calculations. But you should have at least passed that class by now. Natah (nah-TAH)| Grow | 增 A rune that increases the size of objects. The max amount of growing can only be up to three-times the matter it consists of. Meaning that at its base effect you can scale a sword to exactly 3 times its size all around, or by denoting length, it can easily reach 4 to 5 times the length, while the handle remains unchanged. This does not work on humans so boys don't try.
Mal (Mahl)| Shrink | 縮 Works the exact same as grow, but makes things smaller, up to 3 times less.
Listen to Teacher! The Fortify Rune is a very powerful rune that we are giving to you early so you can have a bit of a power boost early for your hard work. However you're not expected to be able to use it at its full capacity. Also, you cant use it to try to double the strength of a single Rune. That's what the Greater Rune is and you wont get that until you're a master.

This is the level that approved professor characters will be placed at. Not too newbie where someone will ask "um, why are you a teacher?" but still allowing room for the character to upgrade their abilities. Your circle knowledge is enough that you can even put a complex circle within a complex circle. *** Your max circle count is 5.
Vulon Koraav (VOO-lan ko-RAV)| Night Eye | 夜視 There are a variety of ways this Rune can be enacted but regardless of how you utilize it, the Rune's gives whatever being its on unimpaired vision. It's slightly different from night vision, in that you aren't automatically blinded by light while its active.
Doberah (DOH-bear-ah) | Float | 浮
You can write one of these Runes to make an item similar to a life preserver. Or you can write out two, one for each shoe, and get the ability to walk on water.
Tsalakat (tsa-LAH-khaht)| Pressure Plate | 壓力按鈕 This Rune is usually placed on the ground to act similarly as a landmine. All in the details the Rune can be anything from an explosion similar to a grenade to a playful explosion of confetti. This rune is often placed around A Delay Rune around the outer ring of the rune.
Spaan (spah-AN)| Shield | 護 An iridescent shield will grow from the Rune which will be able to block all physical attacks that are not magic-based. Note worthy, the shield does not absorb force. So it will block the bullet but you might get the wind knocked out of you.
Bel (Bell)| Summon Item | 召 At the Advanced level teachers instruct a student how to summon an item first. Mentally visualizing the item wished to be brought to them the item will appear from the Rune itself in a splendor of green light. Iz Slennus (IZ slen-NOOS)| Ice Pillar | 冰柱 Often combined with the Pressure Plate rune, once activated a Jet of water springs up from the rune, 5' in diameter and 10' tall Once the water has reached the height of 10 feet it instantly freezes everything inside. Afterwards the rune is spent, ice lasts until it melts or is made to melt. Chatham (chah-THAHM)| Seal | 封 All magic touching the rune is negated. Most often used by hunters who are in high standing with the University as it would seal the magic of a magi once the rune is applied. However, this effect is temporary, and no attempts at a Runic tattoo has succeed.
Vo (VOH)| Reverse | 逆 A conceptual rune that reverses effects or even concepts. For example, Instruct it to reverse Trajectory and place it on a wall, now anything that hits that shield will bounce right back the way it came. You can combine this with another rune to reverse the intended result. Combine Reverse and Lock and this creates a magical unlock rune. Reverse, Fortify, Delay, Greater, how you use these descriptor and conceptual runes that separates the skilled from the rabble. Gaaf Mishmar (gah-AHF mish-mawr) | Spirit Ward | 鬼護 With multiple uses spirit ward protects the user from ghosts and spirits alike. If placed upon a building, then the entire building acts like a ghost proof zone.
Tavah (tah-VAH)| Mark | 標 Works in tandem with Recall.
Dahmaan (Dah-mah-AN)| Recall | 喚 Works in tandem with Mark. When activated the object or person that has this rune attached is teleported to the location of Mark. This is different from summoning because the rune itself can be negated if the subject is unwilling to teleport. Where as in summoning, the subject has no choice. This is why it's mostly used to recall thrown items or to teleport yourself somewhere you've been previously. You will have to also combine it with Locate to find the mark to begin with.
Morah (mo-RAH)| Focus | 焦点 Focus creates a point of focus for magic. Either used as a point of origin for combat magic or a target for magic to hone in on. Used to create Magic Focuses for Runic combat. Morah can also condense magic to a specific point. For example combining Fire, focus, and fortification of heat, you can create a blowtorch. But similar to fortify, you cannot make it stronger than its base power, you're merely focusing all that power to a specific point. Advanced
Listen to Teacher! Naturally the university is covered in Defensive runes to prevent magic, physical, and spiritual attack. It is also impossible for a Ghost or Spirit to get in. However, it is possible for a magi to go through the barrier even though their magic is unusable within. I wonder why.

You are at the top of your field. It is not an odd sight to see a Runic User at this level to not only charitably help society but take paid jobs through the Government and the Hunter Guild. But most importantly, you are the major force of the University itself. Your skill has reached the point that you can have even 3 levels of complex runes within a single rune. *** Your max circle count is 7.
Rimon (RE-mon)| Grenade | 手榴彈 The most common manner in which one uses this Rune is by wrinkling up the paper into a ball and once it becomes heavier in their hands, chucks it in the direction they wish. Upon making contact with something other than the writer it will explode.
Diin (dean) | Paralyze | 痺
The Rune once placed upon a person's skin will cause immediate paralysis. This is not taught to beginners for if the instructions are not done properly, the rune would halt all movement, including the involuntary muscles. Thus You must have an extensive knowledge to make sure paralysis will not affect their lungs and heart muscles.
Barar (bar-ar)| Purge | 清除 Often used to forcefully eject poison or toxins from a person's body. However, this isnt magi Magic, the results are very painful and quick. This can also be used to exorcise a spirit from the possessed host.
Lah Spaan (Lah spah-AN)| Magic Shield | 幻護 Exactly identical to the Physical Shield Rune in the Advanced Level, this Rune specializes in shielding from magic based attacks. And yes, at this level a Runic User could combine the two symbols to make a shield that accomplishes both feats.
Bel (Bell)| Summon Animal | 召 Summoning animals is taught at this level. Again, it's all in the details but also mentally visualizing the animal is a major part of this spell. Warning: Just because you summon the beast doesn't mean you have control over them. Be wise in what you bring over. Summoning people is forbidden, period. If a student or professor were to attempt to do so at this level and it was discovered they would be expelled immediately if not have charges pressed against them for premeditated endangerment. Yolos Slennus (Yo-LOS slen-NOOS)| Flame Pillar | 焰柱 Very similar to the Ice Pillar Rune but far more deadly. Upon activation the rune erupts into a pillar of fire, immediately incinerating the paper, it doesn't last long, but those without some form of fire resistance are often turned to ash.
Ofan Laas (OH-fan lah-AHS)| Animate | 賦予生命 Brings motion to the Motionless. If you write this rune on an object it will come to life. If the object is modeled after something it becomes even more like it and takes on their abilities and minds. For example a Stuffed dog will be very playful while a statue of armor would attempt to fight an enemy and protect its lord.
Tuī (Twee)| Push | 推 After denoting the object by writing in ink, that object or Objects are repelled away from the rune at great speed. If no object is denoted then it will simply push all objects in the vicinity unless you concentrate on what you want to affect. if concentration is broken the rune ends. Cannot push objects over 50kg Lā (Lah)| Pull | 拉 After denoting the object by writing in ink, that object or Objects are pulled towards the rune like a magnet at high velocity. If no object is denoted then it will simply pull all objects in the vicinity unless you concentrate on what you want to affect. if concentration is broken the rune ends. Cannot pull objects over 50kg

You are highly respected and trusted, wither you are a student or professor. Now you've learned the Greater Rune. able to make any of your runes twice as powerful as before.
An optional additional benefit of reaching Master Rank is if your character has been networking and proving themselves to the Head Master of the University he may share with you the recipe to the ink. This includes the University's metaphoric darker skeletons in the closet ... and perhaps quite a few literal skeletons as well. Do you really want to know? Or would it be better if you stayed ignorant? *** You have no max circle count.
Vonus (Voh-noos)| Invisibility | 隱 Placing the Rune upon your person you visually become invisible.
Lah Mishmar (Lah mish-mawr) | Magic Ward | 幻护
Writing this Rune now makes all Magic void and impossible to complete within its specified perimeter. For instance, if a fireball was created outside of the perimeter and was barreling towards it, it would poof into nothingness upon crossing it harmlessly.
Vahzah (VAH-zah)| Truth | 真 A person with this Rune attached to their skin can only tell the truth.
Hashmal Mishmar (hash-MAL mish-mar) | Technology Ward | 技护 Identical to the Magical Barrier, all technology will prove useless immediately. Regardless of battery life, cell phones will turn off. Androids will collapse into a pile of mechanical parts. Any bionics will hang dead at their side.
Bel (Bell)| Summon Spirit | 召 Summoning Spirits is capable at this level. However, you cannot visualize the spirit, since you dont know what it looks like. instead you need to focus on what that spirit governs over. Concentrate on heat, fire, and warmth and you'll summon a fire spirit. Make sure you Combine this with an Obey Rune. Otherwise the spirit is more likely to attack you than your opponent.
Thaarn (thɑh-arn)| Obey | 聽 A powerful rune that demands obedience from the creature or spirit attached to it. However it obeys all orders given, regardless of who gives them. This however is not the same Command rune possessed by the faculty of the University. That rune is only known by the Headmaster.
Ag (Ahg)| Detonate | 爆 Creates an explosion equal to a block of C4. Improper use of this rune has caused more destruction to the school than any other rune, making it now forbidden to be used or practiced within the confines of the school.
Zok (Zawk)| Greater | 大 A rune that when added to another rune, doubles to quadruples its effectiveness. (double for expert and adept runes, Triple for apprentice quadruple for basic) Example. Greater Ice pillar would make a pillar 10x20, Greater magnetize can pull things over 75kg and Greater Ignite would have 2 minutes of continuous burning. Meyz Gaaf (may-iz GAH-ahf)| Astral Projection | 魂捌 A dangerous rune that splits one's soul away from their body. You can temporarily become a Ghost. However you must purchase ghost abilities to use them. With the Ghost wards placed around the school, I'd suggest practicing somewhere else. Listen to Teacher! There is a level above Master known as Grand Master, where there's not a single rune you don't know. They are even at the skill level to make new runes. However only the Headmaster has ever achieved this level of mastery.

LESSER WEAPON ENCHANTMENTS The earliest attempt at enchanting weapons began in the early stages of runic learning back in 1832. However they could find no permanent way to enchant a weapon. they found a good enough substitute at the time.
Made by engraving the rune into the very metal of the weapon, these weapons by themselves have no power at all. Rather, students had to manually pour the ink into the engraved rune. The result was a slightly unstable rune, but one that could last throughout the fight. However, after the ink dries you have to reapply it to activate the magic. It was also discovered that after a while the weapon will break apart because it cannot contain the power of the ink anymore.
GREATER WEAPON ENCHANTMENTS Permanent Enchantment was finally developed in 1973 by the Headmistress Zoraida Diego. The Headmistress had a Talent for blacksmithing and metallurgy that she used to find the solution to the age old problem of enchantments. The headmistress daringly combined the ink with the molten metal of the steel creating a new Rune Metal. To prevent any violent reactions from the metal, the rune itself was etched into the very mold itself. so when the metal cooled it already had it's instructions, and the entire blade became its own circle.
However, Zoraida noticed that the power was relatively weaker than a freshly written rune. She concluded that the process of making Rune Metal dilutes the power of the ink, which is why it didn't explode in her face to begin with. And while the enchantment was permanent, it wasn't as strong as a lesser enchantment.
ENCHANTED THREAD Developed by a scholar, by the name of George Napier, who wished to create an invisibility cloak. Through many different experiments, one finally worked. George found that dying the thread in ink gave the ink a solid state in which to work with. When he sowed the invisibility rune into the cloak it immediately disappeared. However repeated attempts have shown some kinks in the design. If the thread is broken the enchantment fails. And if the thread isn't carefully stitched in, the effects are quite volatile. Not only that after a year or so of washing, the ink begins to fade, and must be redone.
Listen to Teacher! Lesser Runic Enchantments last for the entire thread and is said to only have about 20 uses before it breaks. However they are about twice as powerful as the Greater Enchantments. Which is peculiar due to their names.

Runic Tattoos were developed in the year of 2057 by Headmaster Gerald Ebur. For the longest time no one had attempted runic tattoos for a single reason: why in the world would you put an ink that often explodes into your very skin?
Well Gerald was, not your average headmaster. Born into the Punk Generation, known for its excessive use of tattoos as a replacement for clothes (a fad that thankfully lost style), Gerald wanted to place his runes permanently on his body. Enchant himself rather than a weapon or a piece of clothing. And so he experimented on animal hide with a tattoo-based Runic Ink until he found one that worked.
Runic Tattoos cannot be created by anyone less than a master. The Runic circle needs to be so perfect, so precise, that not even most teachers can create them. To have the tattoo do exactly it's intended purpose without harming the host requires an absolute knowledge of runes and a high number of complex circles.
Beware not to be cut on your tattoo, once scared, the magic shall no longer work.
COMMAND SEAL Every teacher has a very special runic tattoo somewhere on their body known as the Command seal: Servant. This is similar to the obey rune in that they must follow the orders given to them. However they can only come from the one who wields the tattoo Command Seal: Master. To make it easier to hide it's intentions, the Command seal doesn't look like your average magic circle. But rather it takes the form of a tribal marking. Only the Headmaster knows the way to apply a Command Seal and is always the only one with the one designated as Master.
Command seals are far more complicated than any other runic tattoo, the magic circle that defines it itself has never been seen by anyone other than the headmaster. And in it, are layers upon layers of fail safes and contingencies to prevent it's destruction. Standing orders to keep it secret, an inability to even mention it's existence, and a devotion to it's safety is just the beginning of these. There is an Animate Rune that brings the Seal to life. The ink will come to life as a defense mechanism, bonding itself to the host and doing everything in it's power to remain on the host. There has been an occurrence where the ink produced tendrils to reattach the removed limb it was on. Needless to say, removing the seal is next to impossible.

- Headmaster Hiram Berdan BRIEF HISTORY Magic is a powerful and mysterious force within our world. It has shaped our world in many ways some good and others less so.
Ever since countries realized that Magi could be used as weapons in war, Combat magic has become a very practical field of study in the University. Using runes designed for Combat and the latter the use of runic weapons has been slowly added to the curriculum through the years. Headmaster Hiram Berdan was the first headmaster to teach and perfect this study and used it to end the first magical war of Ethea at the end of the Era of Peace. While he fought and commanded the front line,s he realized that certain magic was more powerful than others, and could either be defeated by or can beat certain levels of runes. Thus prompting a thorough investigation into the field.
Through years of study and Experimentation, a basic Hierarchy has been established. The following is a graphic that demonstrates what magic types are stronger than others, meaning that when they collide, which ones will likely win out.
Berdan realized that Magic could not be categorized into a single pyramid. As certain levels of magic of different sources were about equal in terms of power. He categorized these different magic sources into 4 different Pyramids of power. Runic Magic, Artifact Magic, Magi Magic, and Deity Magic. Each of these pyramids is placed on a grid for power level capping out at Level 7; at Level 6 you begin to rival the gods themselves.
MAGI MAGIC Magi was the first race of humanoids to achieve magic. Such a gift also stripped them of their humanity, causing each one to grow grotesque alterations to their bodies. However, Even a child with a basic control of their magic can equal an apprentice-level rune. But, fear not. While Magi have the earliest starting point in terms of power, they are also the first to cap off. The highest level of magic they are able to perform alone is level 5. Granted, reaching a complete mastery of a strand of magi magic is rare and unlikely.
To combat a Magi you need to have a Rune made of at least 1 level higher than what they're able to control. For example, An Expert-level Flame pillar cannot be controlled by a Fire magi who has Fire level II, but can be by a Fire level III. The Challenge in combating Magi Magic is that you have to combat magic of equal power using arcane elements to get the upper hand. To know what beats what you simply have to look at nature to figure it out. The image to the left shows the relationships of magic at an equal power level. Water puts out fire, Fire absorbs air, Earth grounds lightning, Wind blows away ash, etc. Zero is a neutral form of magic and thus can be combated with and against any form of magic, it's also both strong and weak against itself.
ARTIFACT MAGIC AND DEITIES Artifacts, in essence, are vessels that contain the magic of a deity. So technically you could put deity magic and artifact magic in the same category. Minor and Noble artifacts however, while powerful, are easily beaten by a deity's magic. Deity magic at its start is above every other category and at its height, nothing can beat it. The only thing that comes close is the power of a Runic Grandmaster, and Holy artifacts.
Minor artifacts are usually relatively weak in terms of combat use. However, Berdan managed to get his hands on one of the ancient Magi Crests and was able to discern its place on the power scaling. The crests increases a Magi's power level by approximately a half level. Meaning Fire II with Crest of the Draco will overpower at a Water II without a Crest, but cannot beat a Water III. Strangely enough, The crests also nullify the magic cancellation effects of a weapon made from Magi Bone. Unfortunately the Crest was stolen from the office of Zoraida Diego by magi thirsting for its power, thus amplifying the University's Anti-magi policies. No further research could be conducted.
Noble artifacts range from very weak ones like Nevyne's Dreamcatcher, to powerful weapons like The Apple of Discord. As such the level for this category ranges from level 4 to 6. these artifacts are the most situational of all the artifacts. For example, in theory Arondight gives its wielder the knowledge and skills of Lancelot, but if a weak human holds the sword, they are weaker than a strong and fit human which could be a full power-level in difference.
Holy artifacts are the purest form of a Deity's power, The creation of one requires such an enormous amount of energy that most Deities don't create them. The most powerful of all of these is Excalibur, sword of the sun. But that was lost years ago and hasn't been seen since the olden age. These holy artifacts are the only way a regular human can be on par with a deity.
RUNIC MAGIC From looking at the Graph, you can see that Runic Magic is the largest pyramid in terms of power variance. However just how it is the only magic at level 1 it's also the only way for a human to reach Level 6 without the help of a deity's magic. Which means, that if we use a deity's magic to up our own power than we can surpass the gods themselves. But what changes the power level? The ink does not change, so what makes a Novice Ignite weaker than an Advanced Ignite? Simply put, but the time you've reached advanced level you would have enough knowledge to make a stronger, more precise rune, and a Fire I cannot control it.
However, there is a rank of Runic knowledge that is near impossible to obtain. Grand Master is a rank held only by the University Headmaster. A rune of this caliber has no flaws, and is incredibly precise, more often being a complex rune of over 10 runes put together. Such magic can produce effects that even a deity would have trouble negating or combating.
Listen to Teacher! Not everything is going to fit along these guidelines. Situationally, certain lower level magics can overcome those of higher caliber, however it's unlikely. If a comparison of power is in question, Consult your local Professor. The people who wrote this book were a bit biased

- Headmaster Akio Masaru BRIEF HISTORY Runes have been used for combat almost since their creation, starting with "the Magician" Headmaster Conrí Deroy, who was known for his ability to write runes fast enough to use for combat. At the time, Ancient Rune users used the Rune Morah or "Focus" as a focal point for magic to begin. They would place the rune on a tag, wrapping it around a wand or a staff. In doing so, they could use the end to aim their spells; a lot easier than using books or tarot cards. That's why ancient rune wizards are depicted using such items, and is likely to be the first attempts at Runic Enchanting. However, those wands or staves could not handle the magic running through them, and broke easily.
FOCUS GLOVES Rune Combat was revolutionized by Headmaster Akio Masaru while he was still a senior student. He modernized the method of creating these Magic Focuses to end the Second Great Magi War. Akio created what is known now as a "Focus Glove", replacing the use of tools to aim a Runic spell, and allowing it to be cast from the hand. The exact science and complex rune is classified, but this information is known. They respond to Olden Language, activating by saying the word "Morah", and concentrating on the center of your palm. From there you merely call out the name of your rune in Olden Language. The closest rune with that effect is then activated, with an ethereal depiction appearing in front of your palm. The spell is then cast in whichever way your palm is facing, and the rune burns up, its magic spent.
The use of the focusing glove has also gave rise to "Rune Capsules" small sealed tubes with your pre-writen and rolled up combat spells inside. This ability to have many runes on your person along with the speed of casting of he Focus Gloves, thrust rune users into highly desirable positions in any army. At the Advanced rank you receive a Focus glove and a basic capsule magazine that can hold 10 Runes. If you need more you can purchase additional magazines, however it's dangerous to carry more than 3 on your person.
COMBAT MAGIC There are five combat spells mainly used for runic fighters, each one useful in their own situation. Runic Pulse provides concussive force, Runic Spear: fast medium damage; Runic Sphere has large area of effect, for a barrage of damage you use Runic Volley, and last, for the truly formidable foes, Runic Blast.
However, the true potential in these runes lies in the ability to add Elemental Runes to change the effect of the spell. Usually Runic Combat spells have a Zero element to them, and only by adding these elements to to the spells can you gain an upper hand against other forms of magic. Runic Sphere when combined with Ignite gives you the classic Fireball spell, even more so when you have a delayed growth rune attached. Earth and Pulse when combined produces a basketball-sized boulder flying at the enemy. Ice Spear is a common but powerful combination as well. It's this sort of rune weaving that makes runic magic so versatile and powerful. It's how you show your creativity with these combinations that really demonstrates who has a knack for Runic Combat.

Lah Fus (laah Foos)| Runic Pulse | 幻動 The first and weakest form of Combat Magic. Runic Pulse sends out a small wave of concussive energy about the size of a basketball. While this slow moving projectile (approx: 15mph) can have a lot of force behind it, it's relatively easy to dodge. Those with low endurance often have the wind knocked out of them when hit. Lah Canith (laah khan-eeth) | Runic Spear | 幻矛
Runic Spear is the Rune combatant's Bread and butter. It's your standard magic bolt spell, traveling fast and causing decent damage. When combined properly with certain elements you can cause major if not fatal damage. Advanced
Lah Dur (laah DURR)| Runic Sphere | 幻球 A very powerful Combat Spell. Runic sphere creates a ball of energy four feet in diameter and sends it at the opponent at an average speed. Being hit with the full impact of this magical force feels like you're being hit with a slow moving car. At the Advanced rank, you are taught to shrink the sphere during travel and then expanding upon impact or when a keyword is called. Expert
Lah Ronaaz (laah roˈnɑz) | Runic Volley | 幻多重箭 The Fastest Combat spell is reserved for experts. Runic volley fires a rapid set of twenty-six ethereal arrows about one foot in length at the opponent. They fire randomly from the rune created by the Focus Glove that is 3 feet in diameter, allowing it to cover a large area. You can move your hand to adjust aim, the arrows also leave behind a glowing trail to allow you to keep track of flight patterns. Master
Lah Al (laah ALL)| Runic Blast | 幻破壞力 The most powerful of all Runic Combat Spells. Runic blast fires a cone of destruction capping out at twenty feet away. Being hit with the base concussive force is like being hit by a semi truck. Grand Master
Kiinyol (KEEN-yol )| Fire | 焰 A simple but potentially dangerous Elemental rune. On its own the rune lights on fire and anything it is written on is lit as well. The Rune only creates fire for approximately 30 seconds, however what catches fire stays on fire until going out by natural means. When combined with combat magic, the concussive force is turned to fire. novice
Mayim (mah'-yim))| Water | 水 Considered a weak elemental rune. When combined with Combat magic it lessens the concussive force and overall is more annoying than damaging, thus its more prominent use in pranks. However it's highly useful in combating fire magic. On its own, it produces one liter of pure water, bleeding from the ink itself. Novice
Gol (gol)| Earth | 地 An interesting effect by itself, Earth "grounds" objects making them immovable and unable to conduct electricity. When combined with combat magic, it adds a physical aspect to the magic, turning the magic force into solid stone.
Ven (VEEN) | Wind | 風 Ven effects combat differently from your average elemental rune. Rather than increasing the power, Ven decreases the concussive force but almost tripples its speed. On its own it produces a cool breeze, so good for a scorching hot day. Novice
Iz (EEZ)| Ice | 冰 Freezes objects. Ice is considered the most powerful Physical element, Ice has the durability of Earth and the sharpness of Nature. Ice Spear and Ice volley are some of the most deadly combinations for runic combat. Ice Pulse and Ice Sphere also have a shattering effect that can cause increased damage. Expert
Eipher (ay'-fer)| Ash | 灰 By far the weakest elemental rune. Ash can double the size of combat runes but it basically negates the force and damage. Instead the area is filled with hot ash, creating an area of stinging air and an overall nuisance area. On its own, Eipher disintegrates flammable objects like paper or cloth into, you guessed it, ash. Novice
Peyt (peɪt)| Nature | 木 The weakest of the physical elements, As noted by its base effect of growing flowers from the paper. When combined with Runic combat spells, the spells become wood, adding a physical side and shattering upon impact. The shrapnel is the part that causes the most damage. Novice
Qo (kwOH)| Lightning | 電 The strongest of the Elemental runes. Lightning doubles the power of the spell as well as electrocuting the target with white hot lightning. Even alone it's a force to be reckoned with, producing the voltage of a taser for five seconds. As such, This rune is reserved for the experts. Master
