A lot had happened in the past few weeks. A second magi right with hundreds of casualties, a mission to another country that resulted in a broken arm and a sweet new sword, and leading dozens of patrols enforcing the new curfew imposed on magi simply because they were different; it was enough to make Daniel's head explode. He was in desperate need of a very, very long break. Luckily, his hard work was paying off big time and there were more than a few favors other officers owed him for doing their work. He called in a few of them so he wouldn't have anything to worry about while he was away. Then, he went home, told Lexie to pack her bags, and booked the first flight to Ikigai for their New Year's celebration.
It was obvious that he'd made the right choice coming to this country from the moment he stepped off the plane. Not only was Alexandra in much better spirits, but everyone in the small town they decided to visit was just friendlier all around. It was unlike anything he'd ever seen in Ethea and that was just fine with him. The longer he was away from all the nonsense and pointless racism, the better.
Daniel would've been perfectly fine with simply walking around and taking in the sight, but Alex seemed to have spotted something interesting. "Looks like a pretty popular thing around here," he said. "Guess we might as well give it a shot." Daniel followed his daughter in grabbing one of the offered scoops and tried his luck at the game.
