See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. So much had happened in such a short amount of time. Yet there was still so much more to do. Surai had basically been running herself ragged since she arrived in Haven. There was so much to prepare since they’d moved their magi kids from Camlorn to the hidden magi city. Somewhere they would finally be safe, or at least safer than they would be back in the city. So Surai had thrown herself into planning and working the moment she had woken up within the town. Not a moment had been wasted, because there wasn’t a moment to spare. They needed to take care of these kids. But they also needed to get back and tend to the ones in Camlorn. A riot had gone on. People had died. Their “family” had been forced to hide in a basement while gunshots had been ringing out on the surface. And they’d had to say goodbye to half of their brothers and sisters. Things like that didn’t happen and nothing come of it consequently. Yet even knowing this, Surai knew she couldn’t be in two places at once. She had to trust those they’d left behind to hold the fort down until everyone returned. Or… almost everyone. Meanwhile, Surai was doing her best to make up for this fact. Which had consequences all it’s own. The woman had been a constant driving force during the entire day. As impossible as it was to have everything ordered and finished by day one, she’d damn near tried her hardest to get just that done. But there were only so many hours in a day, and people had to rest. So they’d all gone to bed with plans to continue preparations tomorrow. All but one. Surai couldn’t sleep. Worry and, ironically enough, exhaustion were putting her brain into overdrive. She needed to work. She needed to help her kids. She needed to do more. This all consuming restlessness and want for action was what brought her out onto a balcony to pace. As sweet as Elijah had been the first night to let her stay on his couch, she’d chosen to stay in the home temporarily holding her fellow orphanage staff and kids for this night. Mainly because she knew she wasn’t going to be getting any sleep and didn’t want to bother the man or Luca with her anxious energy. So instead there she was: pacing back and forth out in the chilly night air on a balcony. Frankly speaking: she looked rough. There was a disheveled, slightly frenzied look to her born out of the insanity of the past few days. The lovely view of Haven did nothing to calm her down. Not when she was taken by a mood like this. Her vision, both literal and mental, had tunneled down to focus on one thing: help her children. So much so she didn’t even realize she was no longer alone. 524 WORDS FOR Irilys ― The effects of stress and minimal sleep

The God's flight was one of ease and lovely sights. The forest spirits had no qualm with the particular winged Deity and so purposefully shifted its canopies to allow for an easier pathway down into the hidden city of magi. From there Irilys would fly silently through the night. The Fall season's crispness was settling quite nicely as early signs of warmer colors were starting to edge some of the leaves.
With an uninterrupted perfect quiet, the God would land on the balcony's railing. His form this evening was a tiny one. A face of the Northern Saw-Whet owl would blink orange eyes over to His unaware follower. Small claws would comfortably grip a small portion of the natural occurring limbed railing. The tree itself that it formed from once again adjusted itself out of respect for the One who chose to rest upon her.
Irilys would perch and watch a short while. Those wide eyes blinking at his loyal one's anxiousness. It wouldn't be until the God cleared His throat lightly that perhaps the mortal would take notice. "You are quite a ways from home, Surai the human." The voice was a soft one. A caring one. A curious one. "I must say I didn't expect to find you in the city of Magi, my loyal one. I am curious. What has brought you to this place?" A simple question with the usual layer of complexity behind it.
Was this a sincere question looking for an answer? Or was this a polite question to allow the mortal a mental bridge to understand how their God could know this about them? Was this a merciful showing of etiquette to dissuade the usual belief that Irilys was all knowing? Or, again, perhaps this was the Deity's first time through this scenario? Maybe the Great Owl had simply not experienced this conversation yet and genuinely was unaware. Such things were for mortals to ponder if they dared spend the time and take the pain medication caused by the usual headaches it spawned.

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. As the owl landed near by, the pacing woman didn’t even notice. Her vision had narrowed to a small tunnel. That tunnel itself pointed inwards, making her unaware of any changes to her surroundings. On and on she paced, her footsteps carrying her automatically. Back and forth. Back and forth. A few good centimeters of her shoes’ soles must have been worn down these past few days. But much like everything else, the surajan woman didn’t notice. Even the light noise of a clearing throat did not immediately grab her attention. So far gone was she that her very own deity did not instantly make her look up. It was only until she heard a voice speaking that blue eyes raised from the ground and soon focused back on the present. ”Baba?" The tired tone portrayed her surprise. She hadn’t expected any visitors. Not after the long day they’d all had. Much less a visit from her very own God. With all that had been (and likely was) going on, she thought that surely he would have had more pressing matters to attend to than visiting with her. ”I…no I didn’t either, I-" She rubbed her face as her words cut off. Now that she was aware of her god’s presence, she had to try her best to stave off the buzzing in her mind. Though Irilys was perhaps the most understanding when it came to the woman’s tendency to focus on a subject, she did not want to be rude. Especially if he’d come all tho way to see her of all things in such a time. ”Sorry." She apologized with a little sigh, removing the hand from her face. It was a mask of stress. ”I am far from home, yes. I hadn’t expected to be here but with the riot…" Her voice trailed off. Those damn riots.Though she had stopped pacing when she’d become aware, her feet now slowly began moving her again. Not in the long and slow wanderings she’d once been doing, but more subtle movements now. A shuffle or a shift of her footing. She wasn’t even aware she was doing it. ”…That’s why I’m here. When the riot broke out in Camlorn, I fled back to the orphanage with Luca and someone else who knew him. We managed to get there, and thankfully everyone had bunkered down. But after speaking with Luca we realized…it wasn’t safe there for our magi kids. As good as Camlorn is in comparison to some of the other cities it’s still..." Dangerous. The word went unsaid, because she didn’t want to think about the implications. Who would dare hurt or hunt down a child? Hunters. Monsters. The words seemed to blend into one in her mind. Surai minutely shook her head. ”…Luca offered a place for the children to go where they’d be safe from the persecution of the other humans and wouldn’t have to worry about the law that passed. Or any other law the government sees so fitting to pass." Lips curled up into a scowl as disgust colored weary features and blue eyes looked away. Both soon dissipated. ”We thought it was the best idea. I wanted to come along. I wanted to make sure they were alright. I needed to know they were going to be alright here. I-I just-" She cut off as a chill went through her. Surai hugged herself, as if to stave off cold that wasn’t present. This whole time she’d been keeping herself strong for the others. She had to be. Weakness would do her and her children no good in a time like this. But now? Alone on the balcony with her closest friend? The temporary patchwork that had been applied to the surajan’s demeanor to keep it together was finally starting to fail. The constant bombardment of stress and exhaustion and fear were finally starting to make dents against the woman’s resolve. No one came out of Pentos that hadn’t been steeled by the city’s trials. She’d been through fire and survived. Yet a single issue involving her children could leave her feeling weaker than a kitten. So when blue eyes looked back, there was a watery shine to them. A shakiness present that was finally making itself known. ”I-Is this the right thing, Baba?" Concern-driven fear made the words quake uncertainly. An answer was unexpected, but an undercurrent of panic made her ask. ”I-Is this right? Or did I just doom my little najmas to fall?”

The ever embodied being of patience, the God listened with a quiet watchful gaze. "Take your time." Irilys would respond softly to the apology. "If there is anything We have in this conversation, it is time." The words held a hint of humor in them. Mortals with their shorter life spans were always rushing themselves. For the Deity of Time, there was no such concern and such a fact tended to shine a spotlight upon the brash nature humanity tended to wield.
But in this case, the etiquette-following habit of answering as quickly and efficiently as possible for the sake of the other conversation partner was being over shadowed by what appeared to be stress. Sure enough as Surai would continue that would become more clear. Worry was obviously corroding at His loyal follower's resolve. A phenomena He'd witness in her multiple times to be quite honest. "From what you have told Me, little one, it seems you removed the children from a toxic environment and brought them to one known for its safety."
The tiny owl would blink upwards. The tree spirit that Surai's room was built into further showed its honoring of the God who was visiting by blooming brightly pink colored blossoms along the natural railing He stood upon. "Are you allowing worry to cloud your reality and logic, My loyal one?" After waiting for Surai's answer, Irilys would glance outwards upon the impressive city. The colossal ancient trees towered higher than some of the world's sky scrapers. Lights could be seen within the inwardly allowed dwellings, apartments going as high as the eye could see underneath the protective canopy.
"The mortal realm is hardly ever truly at peace, Surai the human. Regardless of where one resides there will be strife. Especially during eras such as this where there are tensions and self-created struggles for equality." The Great Owl would maintain eye contact with ease as that low timbered voice continued in its calming tones. "You are one soul, My loyal one. You cannot protect everyone from everything at all times. Not even a God can handle such a feat with those They care for."
A spindle of vine would wrap delicately around one of the Deity's talons before budding and blossoming a series of tiny flowers. "You must forgive yourself for not being omnipresent and release this un-achievable expectation of yourself. Then perhaps you'll be able to enjoy your time with your Najmas instead of isolating yourself with your worry, hm?"

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. Removing the children from a toxic and potentially life-threatening environment to bring them to a safe haven. Yes, that had been the intention. Fortunately they’d been let in and now her children were safe. Though Irilys’ question gave her pause. Was she? She didn’t think so but….she wasn’t sure. Because even now with these lovely blooms sprouting in the presence of her deity, the woman didn’t even notice. ”I…don’t know. I hope not but I-I just…" She admitted truthfully before trailing off and just shrugging her shoulders. She just….couldn’t help but worry. It was in her nature to worry over those she cared for. ”….I just don’t want them getting hurt again." But as Irilys pointed out, no place was truly safe. There would always be strife. There would always be conflict. Danger lurked wherever one went; there was no escaping that. Death was a certainty to all mortals. Pain as well. These were logical facts Surai knew and excepted as truth, especially with her background. She could not save everyone- no one person could. It was why she’d fled when the riots broke out. She couldn’t save those people, she was only human. But she could try to save her kids. Even if it took everything out of her to do so. Surai slumped to the ground near the railing with a heavy sigh once Irilys was done. He’s right. Of course he was: he usually was. This time was no different. Even so her mind balked at the acceptance. Her spirit raged in anger against her own inability to be able to do all these things. These impossible things even a God, as Irilys said, would not be able to do. It gnawed at her very being. With a sigh she rubbed her face and wiped under her eyes. ”I know." She knew. She breathed in deep. Exhaled shakily. ”I know, but I just…have to try. For them. For now. I might just be one soul but I have to try. At least with them. I know I can’t protect everyone I meet but at least them. Surely I can do that?" The words were directed more towards the self, mumbled low. Legs were pulled in and hugged, serving to stabilize her. She knew. She knew damn it. But it still hurt. Her heart still ached even with this acknowledgement. Yet he had a point. What was she doing? This was no time for grief. She shouldn’t be killing herself over this right now. This might be the last time she ever saw her kids here. She ought to be spending time with them instead of grieving over their loss before she was even gone. It took a few moments but Surai began picking herself back up. Bottling up the grief. Pushing it aside for a better time to address it. Not here, not now. Not even with Baba in this moment. Her najmas needed her, and she needed them. A few moments passed before Surai felt stable enough to look up. She’d buried her face into her knees, but now she rested her chin on them. Sorrow contained. For the moment. ”But you’re right." She acknowledged with a soft voice. With a hand she rubbed away what moisture was still on her cheeks. Most had gone into her clothes. ”I shouldn’t be like this while I still have them."

The patient God waited. Those gentle eyes watched as the mortal came to terms with His words. Never once interrupted. Never once was anything but simply being. Irilys would gaze down to the tree spirit's welcoming gesture and would bow His head once in gratitude for such a warm reception. Not all places this world had to offer invited Him in with such honor and respect. It was good to show that it was appreciated lest there be a day where it was no more.
A verbal soft sigh could almost be heard from the natural wall of Surai's balcony in return. The bark itself shivered for just a moment, so gentle and subtle one that wasn't being observant of their surroundings would miss it. A quiet interaction between powerful Deity and powerful Spirit. With that the mighty tree would excuse herself. There was no need to eaves drop on a private conversation.
"That is My humble advice at least." The Great Owl would smile in response, that kind hue keeping eye contact as Surai stood back up. "Always linger in the presence of those you care for while you can. You will be more grateful for those moments than your time spent fretting away alone." The advice as always seemed to have that aura of experience behind it. Deepening it. There were memories that helped build that counsel. It felt as though there was a foundation perhaps steeped in learning the lesson the hard way.
"Speaking of which it pleases Me that you and my loyal one, Dhristi, had a pleasant introduction." The tiny owl's head tilted lightly to the side with eyes that portrayed happiness. It rang of a similar gleam as a proud father watching as their child befriended others in their class. "She told Me of your meeting two days from now." Ah, yes. The past tense in referencing a day in the future. Such was normal in a conversation with Lord Irilys. "I recommend you still visit her before leaving on Friday. You greatly enjoy your dinner that night. It reminds you of home."

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. All things considered of Surai’s current state of mind, she essentially missed every ounce of that interaction between God and Spirit. When the woman got tunnel vision, she got tunnel vision. But now she was starting to expand her senses once agin. Not fast enough to catch the tail end of the interaction, but the careful walls the woman constructed were being put back in place brick by brick. Especially when she sensed the experience laden behind the words Irilys spoke. Loss. Yes that’s right: he’d experienced that too hadn’t he? With roughly dried eyes she glanced up from her seated spot towards the deity. The beginning of a question starting to form on her tongue. Yet it was held back by the God’s mention of her fellow sister. Ah yes, Dhristi. A small smile managed to make its way on the woman’s face at the memory. Plus the information she’d have a pleasant dinner with the woman before she left. ”I was certainly happy to meet her. Felt like I’d been given a port in a storm." Surai joked, shaking her head minutely. ”If she’d have me for dinner, I’d certainly love that. I could use a good dose of home right about now."Plus maybe a few days of sleep, a lot of migraine medicine, and a great deal of stress release. But dinner was good enough for now. She’s take what she could- or would -get. After that, Surai sat silently for a little while. The question that had been forming before now continued to grow in importance while her mind. She’d already spoken on the subject with one who would have had no qualms squashing the life out of her no matter what sentiments the surajan held in return. Surely she could more safely ask it of her own Deity? Though it was more a matter of whether or not she wanted to dig that up. ”……Lord Irilys, may I ask you something?" The woman eventually inquired, speaking slowly and gently. ”It is a quite…personal question, I know but…I did want to ask your side of it. I had spoken before with Chvali on the matter, but now I was wondering…if I might ask you?"405 WORDS FOR Irilys ― Well when you put it that way

"I assume you can ask a question. Unless you have lost the ability to utilize language." An amused small smile could be seen to form with the maneuvering of facial feathers. The light poke was of course not meant in negative light. Nothing ever was with the God of Wisdom. Questions were how one learned. If there was anything the Deity of Knowledge enjoyed it was the process of learning. Regardless if it was His own or another's.
A personal question. The tiny owl's head would tilt its round head sideways at the clarification as was characteristic of the type of bird His form portrayed. It was apparently an inquiry that had led his faithful one to even inquire of the great water spirit Chvali, that alone showed seriousness in resolve. For those that were acquainted with Chvali, the reason as for why would be apparent.
"It is good I am not a jealous God." Irilys would joke lightly. "Approaching another before Me on a subject of personal interest." A wing would stretch outwards to the young woman. A gentle ruffling of feathers would give the equivalent sign of an 'I kid, I kid'. "Yes, of course you may ask Me a question. What is it that is on your mind, Surai the human?" The tiny owl would return the tiny wing back to His side. A passing by of a firefly would be evidence enough that for the duration of their conversation, time had not been paused.

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. The light jab at the God’s follower managed to bring a small, lopsided smile to her face. As down and emotionally spent as she was feeling, she did like a good banter. Attribute that one to her family. ”I have not, I would hope." She returned with a faint chuckle. Though with her topic in mind, it dried up quickly. Yes, she’d risked her life to ask the subjectively wonderful but objectively dangerous ocean Spirit about the topic before her God. Going straight to Irilys had simply felt…distasteful to the woman. So when she’d learned they’d both known the same being she’d wanted to inquire about, going to Chvali first had felt right in its own way. Now it was time to ask Irilys. Breath in. Breath out. Take a moment to recollect herself further. Think over her words. The relatively young mortal stayed silent for a few moments before eventually sighing and looking up to her God. ”You’ve dealt with departure from a loved one before, haven’t you? Though in a far more permanent sense, from what I was told. And Chvali did tell me a great deal about…Her. How She was and how you both…held Her very dear. I..." Surai paused to inhale and steel herself. ”…I wanted to ask you about Her, if I may Lord Irilys. About your Goddess." Normally Surai was never hesitant when asking her God a question. But for the first time she felt...anxious about how her inquiry would be received. "I just...wanted to hear more about Her from you now, Lord. If you would allow me to learn."299 WORDS FOR Irilys ― Here we go

There was always another level to consider when followers of the God of Knowledge would converse with Him. A question was never simply asked without at least lightly contemplating this final layer of the situation. Had Irilys experienced this already? The Great Owl was known to travel from present to past to future back to present. More often than not, the Deity's loyal ones candidly assumed that the God was interacting with them on a loop. The Deity was going through the motions of events He already knew of in order to continue the time line in the appropriate direction. It became natural after a while.
But it would be in this conversation that the Great God of Knowledge and Wisdom, the One whose feather tips have brushed upon every century, would showcase a rarer moment of being unprepared.
Irilys stared at the human with those wide eyes known to the bird species whose form He preferred. Chvali did tell me a great deal about…Her. The atmosphere about them seemed to ripple as if Surai had tossed a pebble into a shallow creek. How She was and how you both…held Her very dear.
.....
…I wanted to ask you about Her, if I may Lord Irilys.
........
About Your Goddess.
The world around them had frozen. They were in a slice of existence. Irilys would blink for the first time since Surai had begun her questioning. However it was a full dozen of seconds before Irilys realized she wasn't talking further. She wasn't so much as breathing. No. She too had frozen. The God would breathe a sigh. He'd done it again. It seemed time did not heal all wounds. Or perhaps He was the exception to the rule since He traveled upon time's frigid waves so often.
Tilting His head inwards to consider His wing feathers Iri's beak would grasp a single one and pluck it from Himself. There would be a moment of quiet where the God would compose Himself. He was never a fan when His emotions would alter time when it wasn't purposeful. Dangerous implications could arise from that after all. So instead of risking a stop and go over the course of this conversation He chose to keep time about them paused until they were concluded. After an approximate two minutes passed by in the absence of time's progress, the feather would be allowed flutter down where it would land on Surai's knee.
"I just ... wanted to hear more about Her from you now, Lord. If you would allow me to learn." The feather making contact with the mortal allowed her to continue. Whether she would have noticed the feather yet or the most assuredly visible jolt from the God perching one way and then suddenly, in the blink of an eye, would be resting in another. It may have been subtle but it was there.
"I see." Irilys would say, the deep masculine voice emminating from the arguably cute tiny owl. It was apparent to one close to Him that this was in fact not something the God has experienced already. With all the time traveling He'd done, this was not an event He'd lived through already. This was fresh to Him. New. And was taken back ever so slightly in the very least. The previous kind smile had lessened. A somber air settled upon that balcony. A balcony that now looked out into a world that had frozen. Birds, bats, lightning bugs, all were poised midair in midflight of the wings.
"Yes, I allow you to learn. It is good that you wish to." Irilys would say, maintaining eye contact a short while before bringing His attention downward to His small claws. "What is it you wish to know? Is this blanketed curiosity or is there something specific you wish to ask?"
