Notes Let me know if you needed a change. I assume Pathos powered down after the fight.
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS The chirping of birds and fresh scent of dew in the air told any awakening androids that it was morning and, more importantly for said androids, that they weren’t dead. Gentle sunlight poured down, uninterrupted by leaves, lighting up the clearing in a gentle glow. Caroline hadn’t left this clearing for an entire night. The woods were not an ideal spot for complex mechanical repairs, but beggars couldn’t be choosers. A stone served as her seat, a tree stump as her workbench. She was no longer covered and hidden, instead wearing just her bra and jeans (She'd have preferred her tank top, but being dependent on solar energy meant she had to maximize exposure to the sun). A box of tools and replacement parts sat next to her, and various wires connected her chassis to as many power tools. She was no mechanic, but she knew how to maintain her chassis and conduct basic field repairs; it would do for now, but there was no doubt this android would need some proper maintenance, and soon. She’d have to ask Lelianna to bring her back to Haven. She sat back and inspected some recent welding patchwork she performed on the android’s midsection. It would hold, even if it wasn’t pretty. She maneuvered the android so she was sitting facing away from Caroline, hunched forward, giving her access to her back. Well, time to test her handiwork. She connected various wires from herself to Pathos, and began some basic information-gathering as power was transferred from her to the other. She respected her individuality enough not to pry into her memory banks, but she needed to access some basic information. The first was identifying. She discovered her designation, “Pathos,” her active years, basic maintenance logs… She hummed and tilted her head. Something about this was all… off. There was no way this was an Ethean-built model, or if it was, it was thoroughly messed with. The next bit of information she accessed was diagnostic. Caroline scanned through the logs, seeing what repairs took, what the extent of the damage was, and what functions she had left. It wasn’t good; Umbrage did a number on this one. Her hand's damage was beyond Caroline’s knowledge, and the spine injuries were rough. Fortunately for “Pathos,” though, it seemed Caroline was able to restore some basics. After a small window of time, there was enough energy transferred for Pathos to boot up again. Caroline kicked off that process, and waited for her to hum to life, keeping an eye on the diagnostics reports to see what it said after she was up and running. “Easy now,” Caroline said. “Don’t move too much. I’m not a mechanic, but you’re still mostly in one piece. I’m still transferring you some energy, so just relax. Can you tell me your name? Gotta make sure your braincase didn’t take too hard of a hit.”

She could almost see the cloudy sky amidst the massive congregation of trees. A flat image of a person's body popped up with several flashing red limbs: the right hand, the left arm, the torso, and both legs. What did those mean, she wondered? Then in an instant, the memories came flooding back, and Pathos remembered that she was in severe danger. A terrible fire, the roar of gunshots, and the leering android that drove her hand straight through her midsection...Pathos attempted to sit up, but she became keenly aware of her body's weight when rising above an inch was impossible. A voice spoke out; it was distorted by static, but the words were comprehensible. Turning towards it, Pathos was staring up at a woman -- no, something...more than that. Her instructions were to relax, but Pathos felt as though that advice was a formality given her immobile state. She complied, but her head turned down towards her own body out of curiosity. A porcelain white torso was charred black in several places, while an ugly, jagged welding line ran up from her midsection. What wasn't black was stained with artificial red blood that had long dried. Her right hand was a mangled mess of metal that was hardly recognizable from its counterpart on the left. In short, the battle had taken a lot out of her; not that it was especially worrying. The sensation of pain was a foreign concept to some androids, Pathos included, and machines could be repaired. She was more concerned about the magi children. "Did the children escape?" Pathos asked, tilting her head towards the woman. Her voice sounded distant and quiet. "I doubt you would know, actually." Pathos recalled Umbrage discarding her and falling into a deactivated state as her limp body was carried by this strange woman. If the goal was to rescue her, she wasn't going to have time to find any children. For a while, Pathos stared at the woman in silent contemplation before speaking up. "A normal person could not carry me -- you are either an android or a cyborg," a plethora of questions were floating through her addled mind. "Who are you? Why did you save me?" You are getting ahead of yourself. This woman can be trusted. If she wished to terminate you, then you would already be terminated. Typical interrogations are not necessary for androids or cyborgs.
"Thank you for initiating these repairs," she said, her lips forming into a gentle smile. Caroline Vorlan

Notes Casual conversation during surgery, no big deal
| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She let out a heavy sigh at the diagnostics report. The damage was worse than expected, and her patch-jobs didn’t begin to scratch the surface. There was also the oddity of the redacted information, but that was a mystery for later; all it did was confirm that this cyborg was tampered with or customized. Fortunately the powered-on state and detailed report let her find the next parts to focus on. Caroline put a mini-flashlight between her lips, holding it still between her teeth as she leaned in to take a peek inside Pathos’s auditory canal. “Easy, easy,” she said as Pathos started to stand. As expected, she wasn’t able to on her own. She zoomed in her vision after grabbing a small pair of tools from the box. “Hold on here…” There was a loose wire and some minor damage to the auditory sensors; nothing out of the ordinary for cyborgs in combat. After a few seconds of adjustments, it seemed to all be in line once more. “There, how’s that? Better, I hope.” She took the flashlight from her mouth and reexamined the damage report that was shared on her HUD. “Actually, I have some idea,” she said. “I was after those hunters to begin with; before I found you and Umbrage, I engaged her hunter companions. They weren’t in any state to follow the kids after that. Without that danger, they had the time to find their way home.” Caroline smirked. “Hah, well you’re not that heavy, but you’re right; I’m a cyborg. Hosted, specifically,” she said. She examined Pathos’s left arm next, with the severed wires. She’d have to pop open the casing on that and examine the interior. At least she didn’t seem to be in any sort of intense simulated pain; the constant questions were proof of that. She had the right to be curious. “Fair enough. Call me Caroline. I’m just a woman living in the woods, making life hard for hunters. It’s something of a hobby.” Caroline joked a lot more often now that she was spending so much time with Lelianna. She popped open the casing on Pathos’s arm and spotted some obvious spots where the wires disconnected. Time to get spare wire and a soldering iron… “As for why I saved you, besides just wanting to make sure you were okay, it’s for the same reason I don’t mind telling you what I just did; you’re clearly not a hunter, and you have some connection to Haven, if what I heard was correct.” If there was any shock or suspicion, Caroline would hold her hand up. “Easy. I’ve been to Haven myself, I don’t need to pull it from your head.”
She leaned in close as she started patching up some of the wiring, a faint smile on her face. “It’s no trouble; sorry I had to put some shots through you to scare off Umbrage. Tried to do it without resorting to that, but she’s a quick little bastard. Let me know if this feels uncomfortable, alright?” She started with the obvious wiring gaps, hoping that nothing more sensitive was damaged. “Sounds like your memory’s intact. You remember what happened, then? How about your name?”

It couldn't be said that the woman's repairs were welcomed by her patient, who was used to having them done after being deactivated. "Please be careful," Pathos said, biting down on her bottom lip while trying not to imagine what a welder in clumsy hands would do to her 'brain'. After a few seconds, the world burst into a vibrant orchestra of sounds; chirping birds, the gentle rustling of leaves in the wind, and the woman's voice. "Yes, it is better now, thank you," she said while feeling some guilt for doubting her in the first place. Obviously, a cyborg would know how to repair machines. There was plenty to mull over while the woman -- Caroline --- started repairs on Pathos's left arm. The children were fine, which lifted an enormous weight off her shoulders. "They owe their lives to you," she said. She did not entertain the fantasy that her presence would have stopped the hunters or Umbrage from simply tracking their quarry down once she'd been damaged beyond the point of functionality. Pathos almost asked what the fate of those hunters was, but judging from Caroline's weapon of choice and the still bodies she'd thrown, their fate was unambiguous. Did they need to die? Pathos wondered this while frowning sadly. Caroline's knowledge of Pathos's history with Haven was alarming but a quick review of her memory banks made the android remember that she did, in fact, mention her manufacturing origin. Still, the thought of Caroline invading her mind was inherently unsettling. Despite how benign the cyborg was being, Pathos trusted few to know her private data. The repairs towards Pathos's arm brought Caroline close. A bit too close for the android's liking; it was inherently uncomfortable to someone with her sensibilities. You are being illogical. She is not attempting to initiate an intimate encounter. She is only repairing your inoperable body. This reminder made the flush of pink fade from her cheeks. Nothing about the repairs hurt, and as they progressed, Pathos attempted to move her arm. As expected, the process yielded little results save for a slight twitching from her pinky finger, but that was better than nothing. "My name is Pathos," she said, watching as her ring finger slowly curled in, "I remember witnessing the forest fire from Haven. The android -- Umbrage -- was in the process of threatening magi children. My protocol dictates that I protect magi above all else, so I engaged her in battle," she frowned at the memory of that pitiful excuse for a 'battle'. Umbrage's horrible expression returned to her mind's eye once again. "I am not a combat model, so the best I could do was distract her and attempt to flee; failing that, self-termination would be necessary to preserve Haven's safety," she explained, before pausing to consider another path of questioning. "Do you know Umbrage?" Pathos asked. The question was formed from observing the way Caroline spoke of the other android. Caroline Vorlan

Notes You can take the cyborg out of the officer role, but you can't take the officer out of the cyborg
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS “Glad to hear it,” she said after confirming the repairs took. “I've done more delicate fixing of my own body during a gunfight, but I suppose you're right to worry about a stranger rooting around in your parts; might be too much to ask for you to trust me right now, but I'm not going to try to do anything that might hurt you worse; I'm no mechanic. I'm just trying to stabilize you before I can get you to one.” She scoffed lightly at the assessment that the kids owed her; she couldn't hide a smile at the thought, even as she shook her head. “Just doing what any good person would do. The Magi don't owe me anything; in fact, it's the other way around.” She wouldn't elaborate unless asked. Truth was, if it weren't for Tori, Luca, and Lelianna, she'd never have gotten her life back. And saving magi was repaying an endless debt, one that Caroline racked up during those awful years. “Try to move it,” she said. She frowned at the light twitch of her pinky, then took a closer look at her work. She tried to connect a few more wires, hoping for some additional motor function. There was only so much she could do, though, and ended up shaking her head. “Best I can do with what I have, sorry.” She nodded along to Pathos' recollection, which served a hidden purpose; yes, she wanted to see if her memory was intact, but also the old agent in her wanted to do some investigating. It worked like a charm. “So you are from Haven after all,” Caroline said as casually as one would mention the weather. “It was only a hunch from what I heard you two talking about, as well as how close you were to the city. Glad Umbrage didn't get to have her way with you.” Other information was freely volunteered. She wasn't a combat model (though a look at her chassis was enough of an indicator of that), but she was tasked with protecting magi. She hummed as she moved around to the front of the android, now seeing what she could do about fixing some additional holes in the chassis. In a word, she was bothered by these revelations. A non-combat model with information about Haven was... dangerous. If Umbrage was able to get information, the entire city could have been compromised. Even if not, she didn't like the idea of an android self-terminating. Before she could patch up one of the minor punctures, she froze. Do you know Umbrage? After a few moments, she relaxed and resumed her welding work. It seemed while she was setting up Pathos for answers, she let her guard down enough for Pathos to learn some things about her. Honestly, she could respect that, even if she hated the subject matter. “Unfortunately, I do,” she said. “Enough to know what she's capable of. Everything she was saying... well, that was all true. Hunters would have taken your databanks and likely repurposed you. When she called herself a weapon, she was right; that's what the hunters view cyborgs and androids as, and nothing more. Though I suppose what's most disturbing is that she seems to embrace the role.” She sat back and looked at the one hole she patched. Satisfied, she moved to another. “Sorry if this is uncomfortable; you lost a lot of coolant, and your internals are damaged- I have to make sure you're stable and I can only do that when you're active.” As a show of good faith, and perhaps as an apology for halfway tricking Pathos into volunteering information, she decided to share a bit, too; it was safer now that she was sure the android was indeed from Haven. “I also saw the fire, and I had a lead that hunters were prowling about the area; wasn't hard to put two and two together, so that's how I ended up nearby. Didn't expect to find anyone that needed saving, but glad it worked out that way. Mm, try to move your legs again?” She backed up and watched, shaking her head. “Damn, I can't do anything about that. Well, I brought you back here, near where I call home. It's safe, I have my tools, and when I'm sure I can get you to Haven without you falling to pieces, I'll need Leli to guide me there. We're not that far off.”

Caroline's assurances were quaint, although Pathos did not like to imagine someone worrying overmuch on her behalf. "It's okay, my pain inhibitors prevent the simulation that would make me feel 'hurt'. This includes emotional pain as well," she explained, before pausing as a realization dawned on her. "Oh, you must mean 'hurt' in the sense of disabling my body further," her eyes widened from the surprise of the notion. "That is also a non-issue. As I am a machine, anything can be repaired or replaced," she gave Caroline a gentle-looking smile. Despite Caroline's attempts at repairing Pathos's arm, it was clear that the damage was too severe to be mended with a few new wires. In spite of her best efforts, Pathos could do little more than lift it upward a few inches. "I can control my arm, but the hydraulic that enables me to support its weight appears to be irreparably damaged," she said with a sigh, "Replacing it will undoubtedly cost money." The android was aware of the audibly downcast tone she'd involuntarily taken on. She may have followed her programming to protect those magi children, but in doing so strain would be placed on her master, which in itself was a harmful violation of said programming. Clearly, something needed to be done, but what? It was something to consider. Those considerations were put on hold; Pathos listened attentively to Caroline's explanations with a response readied during a break in the dialogue. "I cannot find myself disagreeing with their stance on the role of an android, at least. I am not a 'living' being," Pathos paused the ponder the best way to describe herself, "...I suppose that my state of being is best described as 'functioning', which in and of itself is an apt descriptor for my role. I function because I was created to follow orders. My orders are to protect my master and by extension, the magi as a whole, and Umbrage's orders are to hunt them down," she said while attempting to move her legs, which resisted her attempts. "That is the meaning of our existence." It was clear to Pathos that her legs wouldn't budge. "My exoskeleton is damaged at a specific location that is preventing my lower body from functioning. This location is likely where Umbrage grabbed my 'spine', and the damage is most likely stemming from when she crushed it," the android explained, "It will need to be rep-" Leli?Leli. Where had Pathos heard that name before? Scannin- Fragmented match. Lelianna. Lelianna, the woman with the very slow furry thing who had fallen victim to the jests of a tree. She remembered encountering that odd magi a few days prior to today. "I am also acquainted with the magi known as Lelianna," said Pathos, who smiled up at Caroline. "This is a favorable circumstance that will increase the odds that she provides us aid in returning to Haven, and my master." Caroline Vorlan

Notes I wouldn't be surprised if Arithelia herself came to me and said "Oh yeah I just had tea with Leli"
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS “I suppose that’s true,” she said, not entirely on board with Pathos’ logic. Yeah, it’s true, but she couldn’t help but see other cyborgs, even androids, as equals. And she wouldn’t be ripping out organs because they ‘could be replaced.’ Far be it from her to tell Pathos how to view herself, though. “Lucky you have those inhibitors, otherwise even being conscious would be painful. Trust me.” Yeah, she didn’t get those when they made her body. She had to be aware of her body’s senses, and hosted humans who didn’t experience typical ‘human’ feelings tended to suffer from mental distress and disconnect. Unfortunately, that included pain. She hummed and inspected the hydraulic casing, acknowledging her assessment with a defeated nod. “Money’s just money,” she said. “Better than you being permanently disabled or captured. If it will really put a strain on whoever you stay with, I can help with the costs. I should restock my supplies anyway.” Caroline had… quite a bit of savings on her person. She never had a need to spend much money in her old life, so it piled up. Once she bailed, she took it all; almost a decade of a high-paying job’s salary was stashed among her belongings. And now that she lived in the woods, where everything was provided for her by nature, she still had no means to spend it. She found herself giving it to magi she saved more often than not. She didn’t expect philosophy on androids when she booted up Pathos, but found it interesting all the same. She… hadn’t really spoken to many outside of her job, and none since she left. Being built to serve… that struck a negative cord with her, due to past experiences. But she seemed happy enough. “Hm, well, I can’t argue with that. I don’t know that anyone programmed her to ‘enjoy’ her duties, though.” That was all she really had to say; it wasn’t the time to get into an in-depth discussion on android free will. She moved around to Pathos’ back. “Yeah, figured as much, but it was worth a shot. Going to pop your back open, just to have a look here.” With her consent, she did. Immediately she winced at the sight of her damaged internals. Loose coolant, crushed metal… it was a miracle she could even reboot. “Damn she did a number on you. Nothing an expert can’t repair; I’ve seen worse.” Firsthand, no less. She couldn’t contain her short burst of laugh and smile as she closed Pathos’ chassis back up. “Ha, you know, I’m not surprised. Seems she knows everyone who spends time in the woods.” She started to put away a few of her tools. Metal clinked and clanked as she fished around looking for some other ones. “Oh there was no chance she wouldn’t help us,” she said with another laugh. “She trusts me. We are dating, after all.”

Caroline's offer was a bit of a surprise; strangers could be so generous? "If that is what you wish, I would greatly appreciate it," she said, not being the type of person to turn down aid if it meant Mr. Kingsley wouldn't need to pay out of pocket. "This will be the second time you've assisted me. I will find a way to repay this debt," she gave the cyborg a small nod. "If you desire a caretaker or a menial worker, I will gladly lend my services to you." There was the food for thought created from Caroline's response. It was true that androids could be programmed to develop, but their intelligence was generally fixed by their creators. Their personalities, however, were less restricted in this way, leading to a wide array of personalities that are shaped by the human (or magi) personalities around the around. "We are a product of our environments," Pathos explained, and her head drooped as she paused to consider Umbrage's situation. "I cannot hold what Umbrage did against her. Her cruelty is likely inherited, rather than innate." It would have been far too easy for Pathos to have developed a similar type of sadism in worse company than Mr. Kingsley. Pathos then allowed Caroline to pop her back open -- not that she was in a position to resist, anyway. A hopeful analysis was offered; "Then I am not destined for a junkheap just yet," Pathos said, her chuckles coming out slightly distorted. This laughter immediately stopped at what Caroline said. Dating?"Da...ting?" Pathos said very slowly, as if the word were utterly foreign to her. "I do not understand. A relationship is typically between a male and a female for the purposes of procreation. Lelianna is a woman, as are yo-" she paused, the logic had just come together. "Unless, as a cyborg, you possess an augmentation that is the facilitation of procreation?" Pathos peered at Caroline with an expression of utter curiousness. "That is correct, is it? How else would your offspring be born?" Caroline Vorlan

Notes Nearly singes hands in embarrassment
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS “No need to repay anything,” Caroline reaffirmed. “You’re from Haven, you help Magi, and I’ve got an endless debt to them. Don’t think anything of it. Not much I need as far as work or care, but the offer is appreciated. Just keep doing good for Haven, and I’ll consider us even.” There was no way she would take anything from the Magi, not after how much she took already. Knowing she stopped a hunt was good enough for her, though the fact that Pathos knew of Haven was bothering her now; if she DID get captured… that could be the end for the Magi. Whoever her ‘master’ was, Caroline would have to try and have a word with them. She put some tools away, then gave Pathos’ body a once-over look, while keeping an eye on her HUD for diagnostic changes. “Can’t argue that; hunters are a heartless bunch. Anyone, human or cyborg, would pick up on those habits if they spent time at the guild.” That, to Carlone, was why she could see androids as people; they could learn, they could feel emotions, they had a sense of individuality… they were people. The only difference between her and them was that her cpu was organic. Hell, it got hacked just as easily as a computer would. “Not a fan of people being destined for a lifetime of killing. Call it an acquired distaste from personal experience.” That was putting it lightly. She shared the laugh. “Not today, I’m afraid.” During her examination, she noted one puncture wound that was missed. A quick hit with the welder would fix that. As she leaned in, she rolled her eye at Pathos. Really, that’s what they programmed her to think? Unless, as a cyborg, you possess an augmentation that is the facilitation of procreationCaroline jumped in surprised, heat flooding her cheeks as she fumbled to grab the welder that was tossed up in the air. Somehow, she managed to catch it without singeing herself or Pathos, though it was pretty iffy for a few desperate moments. Good GODS. She was surprised her own hair wasn’t turning red like Leli’s would have; good thing she wasn’t here to share in the awkward moment. “Uh, n-no,” Caroline managed to stutter out. “Nothing… nothing like that. I’m not, er, we’re not, ah… That’s… not…” Use your words, Caro. She took a breath; it was unnecessary for her to function, but her brain still felt the calming effects of the motion. “I think you need to update your database, Pathos,” she said. “That’s not the only purpose of dating. It’s what people do when they feel love or affection for one another; “procreation-“ Her cheeks flushed at the word. Gods, that act wasn’t even something she had considered before! “It’s… not always the end goal or purpose of relationships. Women date each other, men date each other, cyborgs date humans and androids date Magi; it’s... people have their own reasons. Leli and I have no plans for … children.” Calmer now, she patched up the puncture wound, glad to be able to focus on another task for a few precious moments. Gods, was she really explaining relationships to someone? Her? The most clueless cyborg this side of Arecia? She put her tools down and closed the lids of her respective containers. “That’s about all I can do for repairs. Should keep you together long enough to get to Haven. I’ll carry you since your legs aren’t working, whenever you’re ready to go.”

Pathos observed Caroline's sudden burst of odd behavior with a tilt of her head and a raised eyebrow. Then came Caroline's explanation, which did little to alleviate the android's confusion. "I do not understand. 'Love' is a chemically induced urge for reproduction with a suitable mate. It is how a species propagates and survives," she said, before looking off to the side. She looked to be deep in thought, "At least, that is what I have come to believe until I met you. You are correct, I will need to conduct further research on love," she stated while making a mental note to do so once she was fully repaired. There were establishments in Haven that could help with that... "I apologize for upsetting you," said Pathos, who sat up once Caroline was finished with the repairs. The cyborg's statements were received with a nod, "I am ready whenever you are. If you require a moment to rest due to my weight, please take it. Even cyborgs can sustain injuries from carrying heavy objects," she smiled as a thought crossed her. "While we are walking, perhaps you could tell me more about what love is?" Clearly, Caroline knew quite a lot about it. Caroline Vorlan

Notes At this rate she's just gonna run to Haven
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She made a sound halfway between a drawn-out “uhhh” and a hum. “I don’t know that that’s actually all there is to love, Pathos,” she offered. “No, you didn’t upset me. Just… caught me by surprise, was all.” Tools were put away at a renewed pace as Caroline tried frantically to avoid the subject. She left their wires connected so she could view Pathos’ diagnostics in her own HUD during the journey to Haven. Pathos may be fine now, but that didn’t mean her patch-jobs would hold during trip. “I’ll be fine,” she assured Pathos. “I carried you the whole way here without trouble. I’m stronger than I look. Up we go!” True to her word, she hefted Pathos up as if she was made of plastic. She opted for a fireman carry, with Pathos horizontally over her shoulders; piggyback wouldn’t be good with Pathos having one functioning arm, and bridal-style wasn’t really suited for long travel. Plus she didn’t have to look at her face if she chose to ask more questions on love. Which there was, of course. “Err, well… uh…” She started confidently. “Love… Well… I can’t say that I’m an expert, or anything; I just know what my experiences are, and what people tell me about theirs. It’s… a connection. I guess that’s the best way to put it.” Thank goodness they weren’t far from Lelianna’s cabin. Hopefully she could save her. “Leli and I… we’re dating because of a bond we developed over a long time. There are countless reasons I love her, but none of them have to do with… reproduction.” A vague heat formed on her cheeks. “It’s more… the feeling we get being around each other. I guess I’m no good at explaining it… but there are lots of different kinds of love, you know. Like the love between a father and daughter, or brother and sister, or cousins… familial love. Friendship is also a type of love, I suppose.” How long had they been walking? Two minutes? It felt like two years. Unless Pathos asked follow-up questions (which she no doubt would), that was all Caroline had to say. After all, they were getting close to Leli’s cabin. Hopefully she was around instead of tending to a far border of her garden. “Maybe it would help to ask around in Haven for people to share their experiences,” she offered. “If you’re looking to research, it’s best to collect from as many sources as you can.”

► Oddly enough the arrival of Caroline with a beat up Pathos wasn’t going to be the strangest thing to happen to the druid today.
Fortunately for both cyborgs the druid was indeed at home. Frankly because she’d gone through quite the strange past few days. First off: her foray into the Cavern of Light she’d shown her girlfriend had turned up interesting results. Not only had she learned more about the previous denizens of the caverns after conversing with the flora that lived down there, but she’d made a discovery. Some sort of belt with a buckle in the shape of a bull that had been located deep within the caverns. Only with the help of the fungi there was she able to find it, and when she did there was something about it that Lelianna couldn’t quite pinpoint. Something naturally magical about it the hermit couldn’t explain. The fungi had thought it was important, and when she decided to put it on they surprisingly sounded….louder. Clearer. As though the belt was helping her. She definitely wanted to keep it then.
But then of course something else just had to happen.
The druid didn’t know if it was the discovery of the belt or something else, but when she woke up only a few days later she was a little green. Not sick. I mean literally green.
There was a new hue to her skin that wasn’t extremely noticeable, but was certainly there. But you know what was even more noticeable? The vine that had somehow sprouted from her shoulder overnight and now curled around her arm. Which strangely enough also felt a little more rubbery than usual, almost like a plant. Did she also mention that the voices of the plants around her were coming in nearly crystal clear now?
So yeah, a lot had gone on in a few days.
For that reason Lelianna was at home sitting out among her plants and simply….talking. Talking and listening. Which would probably look strange to anyone else, but fortunately Caroline was fairly used to the sight by now. Besides, their voices were coming through so well now! Lelianna could actually pinpoint the different flora around her and hear even further than before. It probably would have been overwhelming if she hadn’t already been getting used to it from being able to hear them before. Now it was just easier and stronger for her. So when the duo approached, Lelianna was informed. Her girlfriend and…someone else?
When Caroline and Pathos finally came into view, Lelianna looked over towards where they had come. The vegetation was especially thick around her house, and today it seemed to be particularly thriving and writhing around the magi as she sat. Skjorn was nearby napping as well; the big bear “preparing” for his hibernation. His ears only twitched at the cyborg’s approach and he glanced her way for a second before huffing and rolling over.
”Oh hey Caroline how a-“ As her girlfriend drew closer Lelianna finally could make out the….individual who was being hefted on the woman’s shoulders. Or rather, what was left of her. Green eyes went wide immediately and Lelianna scrambled to her feet. Dear gods, what happened?! ”Pathos!” The druid blurted as she ran over. Anything she’d been meaning to tell Caroline about her discoveries over the past few days (or the explanation for the leafy vine now decorating her left arm to her elbow) flew from her mind. ”Goddess, what happened? Is there anything I can do to help?” Was her first question. Though she had to wonder if there was even anything she could do for Pathos.

Pathos's eyes gradually flickered from the jostling of general movement during their journey, and her head was arched downward to alleviate any possible exertions that could damage her further. All the while she and Caroline conversed, Pathos saw the answer to her question fly farther and farther away. Maybe hoping for a concrete answer to such a broad question was too much; maybe expecting it from a human, with their penchant for roundabout analogies and metaphors, was foolish. No, no, not foolish at all. Caroline must have known the answer, but expressing it was the issue... Just another "bug" with how humans processed such inquiries, hardly anything like the factual, to-the-point analysis of an android. "You love her because she is your...sister? I see..." Pathos said, and her neck whirred from movement towards Caroline, "That is conjecture, but if you do not desire a partner for the purposes of reproduction, then a sisterly, motherly or 'friendly' bond is more...logical." While she still wasn't sure about what love was, Pathos understood what type of love Caroline felt for Lelianna a little better now. "I am deactivating to conserve my charge," she announced, and after configuring herself to reactivate automatically via voice recognition, the light in her bright azure eyes faded as her body went limp, leaving her to stare blankly at the ground for the remainder of their trip. An indeterminate amount of time later, a familiar voice registered in Pathos's voice recognition software, causing the android's dead eyes to glow and her head to arch upwards towards her rather panicked acquaintance. In spite of Lelianna's worry, a separate inquiry was readily apparent, but that could wait for now. "Don't worry, machines can be repaired," she said calmly, smiling with twitching lips and badly flickering eye lights. "Why are you green?" she tilted her head quizzically. Even Pathos didn't know what to make of that. Caroline VorlanLelianna Varna

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS “Wh- Wait, no, what? I mean, I,” she stammered, nearly tripping over herself and sending both of them sprawling. “She’s not my… That’s not, exactly? How it? Er, yeah, go ahead and… do that. Save, save your energy.” What the hell just happened? This is why she only talked to Leli anymore! At least she could understand her babbling and inability to articulate herself. It seemed that she confused the android rather than providing answers. The silence was welcomed, save that now she was left alone with her thoughts, trying to think of how she could explain herself when Pathos next awoke. After a bit of walking, a welcome figure came into view (with a larger, sleepier figure nearby. Get that practice in, big guy). Her reaction only confirmed that she did, indeed, meet Pathos at some point. And, of course, she was fretting right away. “Run-in with hunters last night,” Caroline said, turning her head to regard Pathos for a moment. “She saved some kids from a nasty piece of work, but took a few hits for it. Did what I could, but we need to take her to Haven as soon as possible; I was hoping you could take us.” She cocked her head at Pathos’s inquiry. The fact was that nothing surprised her about Lelianna anymore so sometimes change took a few moments to register. This… was definitely different. She stepped forward and gently put her hand on Lelianna’s arm. While her tactile senses weren’t as good as a biological human or magi, she could definitely detect a small difference. “Why are you green?” She asked.

► Hunters. Why did it have to be hunters?
Of course, with an answer like that, Lelianna was only even more concerned than she'd been a mere second ago. The flowers in her hair were beginning to turn a darker shade than they had been, and the luster of the crystals in her hair waned. Don't worry? Saying that to Lelianna was like telling the sun to stop shining.
"Haven? Oh, of course! I can take us there fast. Skjorn could probably help. Skjorn!" She turned around towards the big fluffball. He was still lying down, but his ears flicked in acknowledgement. Lelianna walked overtowards him, place a hand on his fur. "Big guy, can you help us out? We've got to take Pathos to Haven." The magi pleaded. At first the big lug only glanced at her with a lazy expression. But whether it was the concern in her voice or the pleading expression on her face, the bear got to his feet with a grunt. it made Lelianna smile a little despite everything. "Thanks Skjorn." She said, giving him a little hug before the voices of the others got her attention.
Why are you green?
Oh. Right.
Lelianna turned back around, bringing Skjorn with her. "Oh, uh....I, ah....I don't really know honestly. I woke up this morning and, ah, well this little guy was growing." She held up her arm to display the viney growth currently encircling part of her arm. "But whatever happened made me hear Arecia even better! It's amazing CC!" Excitement began to shine through her voice, even with her previous worry over Pathos. Which, speaking of which, a glance towards reminded her that- oh yeah -they were in the middle of something. "B-but that can, ah, wait. I'll take you to Haven. Hold on."
With that the druid climbed up on the back of her rather imposing mount and glanced down at Caroline and Pathos. "Do you want me to carry her up on Skjorn?" She knew Caroline was strong but...well Pathos didn't exactly look all that well.
