See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. This whole endevour was a tiring one. Not to mention something that was weighing on her mind far, far too much. Sure they'd gotten extra help to deal with finding her lost child (not blood related of course) but it was still something that was worrying her. Where could Toby have gone? Was he hurt? Had someone taken him? Was he alone and simply lost? The questions had been playing around in her head for a few days now as authorities were looking into it. Which meant the Surajan woman would just have to wait. Which wasn't exactly easy for her to do in this circumstance. "Oh Irilys this is horrible."The woman muttered under her breath as she finally took a seat in her chair. For the past few hours minutes she'd been pacing back and forth. Sleep was... well sleep was being an outright asshole to her at this point. She'd tried a few times but with Toby's disappearance still fresh in her mind it was hard to find enough peace to accomplish it. Oh she'd get to sleep alright. After she'd worn herself down enough that her body would outright demand it. It knew what it wanted and by the gods if it needed sleep it was going to force it on the woman no matter how worried she'd get. It was like a failsafe her body had developed from her time living in Suraja. For right now though she was still awake even as the hours had ticked off into the later part of the night. Now she was just trying to find something to distract her mind. Because sitting near the phone waiting for a call was not really helping her in the slightest. Gods she wished she could just go out there and do it herself. Just find Toby and make sure the little boy never got out of sight ever again. At least it hadn't happened on her watch; she'd have never forgiven herself. But still a little boy was missing. On her watch or no, that was a bad thing. Once again the woman got up with a sign but this time headed for her bedroom. No use trying the bed: she'd done that a few times now. Instead she pulled off some blankets and a pillow and headed back towards her living room. Maybe some good old fashion television would help pull her to sleep. She'd just find the most boring channel she possibly could. As she made her way back in towards her comfortable couch, she wasn't the least bit started by the sudden appearance of a bird in her home. Rather, the sight of such a creature made her more relieved than anything. She didn't even question how the bird got in there in the first place; the woman plopped her things onto her couch and made her way over to the owl. Once she got close enough she wordlessly wrapped her arms around the big bird and buried her face into the soft plumage of the creature's stomach. There was only one being who'd appear at this hour and so abruptly despite the fact she knew her windows had been closed. "Baba, I hate waiting. I wish Toby would just show up back in bed and everything would be alright again." Groaned the woman, her voice muffled from her current position. A position she didn't try to move out of. She really, really needed this right now. The stress was getting to her head as her apprehension over this whole case remained high. "I just want Toby to be safe. Ugh, it should have been me that was watching over him that day. I know he likes to wander; I wouldn't have let him out of my sight." At least, so she told herself. The truth might have been different. Maybe he still would have disappeared. That thought was enough to make her pull her head back with a sigh. "Or would that have even made a difference? I'm just..." Worried? Concerned? Internally screaming at the top of her lungs until her throat was hoarse? "I just don't want anything bad to happen to my little najma.* Surai said instead with another little sign and shake of her head. She hugged the great owl closer again for a moment. "...Can I at least ask if he's alright right now?" She didn't want to ask much of the God, but even the smallest sliver of reassurance or information at this point would given her peace of mind she definitely needed. Anything would be better than this state of mystery and misery she was currently stuck in. ------ *najma = star 786 WORDS FOR Irilys ― Got permission to place the grand Google God there for maximum hugs

The God would offer the same soft gaze just as He'd always. Tucking His wings to His sides Irilys would allow the mortal to embrace Him. This night He appeared as a grand fully matured Great Gray Owl. With deceptive size its 'fluff' (for lack of a better word) would make the nocturnal bird seem larger in size than it actually was. One simple poke or perhaps a hug would showcase this fact. Soft feathers would compress as the God was nuzzled.
"I know." The Deity would respond with a quiet kind tone. Peering downwards Irilys would look down upon the follower who was so fond of Him and vice versa. "I know." Irilys would say again as He followed the woman's example. Lowering His head Surai would feel the God nuzzle into her hair. The worried gaze that would eventually look up to Him would be met with a patient one. Perhaps even empathetic.
"I believe it is wise to remind you that worrying does nothing to assist matters. I love your soft heart." Irilys would begin, smiling fondly upon His precious follower. "But the emotion of worrying only causes damage to yourself physically. Which will only lead to you being less than optimal when the time comes where you can actually assist matters." Rubbing His plush head against the woman's cheek once the God would continue in His thoughts. "It is for the best for all involved if you exercise mental first aid and address your anxiety over this and work on recovering some form of peace."
After sharing the advice He found Himself most having to remind mortals of Irilys would shake His head once. No verbal confirmation was necessary. No, it would not have made a difference in events if Surai had been the one looking over the boy. Fate was not a technical reality but traces of it did tend to stretch out deceivingly.
"Of course you may." Irilys assured the mortal who hurt so much over the safety of another. "Yes. He is unharmed and will remain so until the child is found. Other than a cold so I would suggest you bring some kleenix with you."

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. Indeed the reciprocal nuzzling into her hair drew the woman's head up to meet her God's gaze. Yes, he knew. If there was anyone who knew the woman better than her family, it was the deity before her. Which was why his words made complete logical sense. She might have been worried, but getting so anxious to hear news about it that she could hardly even sleep likely wouldn't help anyone. Much less the very child she was hoping to find. With a soft sigh she accepted his words. "You're right... If I'm not in tip top shape the other kids will only suffer for it. And I'd never forgive myself if it made us lose another." Besides, based on the God's gesture she knew it would have been futile had she been there. Toby was fated to have gotten lost. Whether or not she'd been there would have been irrelevant. Believe it or not there was some comfort to be found in that fact. Though there was more comfort to be found in the God's next words. Toby was unharmed. Well okay he had a cold but that was far better than some of the alternatives. The news was like music to the teacher's ears. In an exhale most of the tension left her body. Some of it she hadn't even been aware of, but she knew the stress of apprehension over the little boy's well-being had been weighing heavily on her. With a warm and grateful smile she leaned forward to press a kiss to Irilys's forehead. "Thank you, Baba." Said the woman with a far happier look on her face. "You always know just what to say to make me feel better. And I'll bet you didn't even have to rewind for this." The last bit came out a little more playfully than anything, but there was a degree of fondness to it that believed the words. The God knew her best; anything he said probably would have helped in a situation like this. "I won't worry myself to death over Toby. Er," Her expression turned just a little bit guilty, "I'll try not to but I have a feeling I'm always going to be some degree of concerned for him until he gets back. Which will hopefully be sooner rather than later." Ideally he'd be found right now but that was just wishful thinking. "But what you've said has certainly helped. The fact he is unharmed makes me a lot more hopeful that he'll be back safe and sound in no time. I'll definitely have things ready for him when he shows up. I'll even buy a new Kleenex box just for him. We probably needed more anyways."With that Surai had been satisfied. Toby was gone but not hurt. That did more for her than Irilys may have realized. Or maybe he did. It was hard to tell. Either way she now had to wonder if the God had come to her for any other reasons. "Was there anything else though? Or were you just here to stop me from blubbering into a pillow?" Hey she could laugh at herself a little. "Either way I'm happy to see you, Iri."539 WORDS FOR Irilys ― All the snugs and smooches for feathers

The kiss would be accepted with a slight fluffing of the feathers. A positive response. Perhaps to be akin to a mortal's blushing. "Oh, you never know." Irilys would reply with as much a smile as an owl's beak allowed. "Perfection is a rare myth. Not even among the pantheon is there an unwavering confidence in every action taken." The rewind comment was taken with a similar light hearted tone Surai had used. She was correct this time that no rewind was necessary for this interaction. BUt that wasn't to say He would admit to it. If Irilys began coughing up to every single time He rewound He would in no time over burden even the most intelligent of mortals. It was best to be vague for everyone involved.
"But you're welcome, little one. And I am pleased you are heeding My words." The poison of worrying was a hard lesson the Great Owl Himself had had to learn through experiences and the observing of others. The least He could do was share His hard earned wisdom with the younger mortals whom walked the earth. A chuckle would leave the Deity's beak at the blubbering inquiry. "As I am happy to see you, Surai the human." A wing would stretch out to genly ruffle the woman's hair just as He had when Surai was but a child. It was a gentle gesture blessed with fondness.
"But you are correct." Irilys would nod, folding His wing back into His side. "I am here for a couple of reasons. I am asking for your assistance in guiding the hands of fate. Are you willing to listen to my words?" Upon hearing the positive response the God's eyes would shimmer as either Surai herself or another somewhere in the world called upon His name. "Thank you for your willingness." Irilys would say just as He always did before diving into matters. Appreciation and gratitude was never to be questioned among His followers. They were always told justly.
"In the Ethean city of Dagos," The God would begin, those yellow eyes meeting Surai's unwaveringly, "there you must seek out what your kind has termed a 'Zero Magi'." Unmoving save for the beak's motions for speaking, a seriousness would settle into the room. This was no longer one friend speaking lightly to another. This was a God speaking to one of their faithful. "With a gender that is not fluid, his name is Luca. Though you will not be able to locate him through his birth given name. You will only be able to find him through a number."
Irilys would wait patiently as Surai would grab a writing utensil to make note of details if she hadn't already. "ZK332591LB." Iri would relay with an unpleased tone. "That is the number assigned to him. Luca the Magi is considered by those who stole him a slave." Those yellow eyes would blink once. "You will have to purchase him for Luca the Magi to regain his freedom. His preferred fate will not be achieved if he remains on the leash of another."

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. The woman laughed lightly as her hair was ruffled. It reminded her of when she was a child, and the God would do the same thing. That or when her family members did it; especially her older sister. Which in turn made the woman long to see them again. Much as she kept in contact with them, it was always better meeting face to face. But she'd have to put the thought of a potential family reunion aside. As she smoothed out her hair somewhat, she recognized it was down to business now. Though that didn't mean she didn't respond with a smile on her face and an affectionate gleam in her eyes. "Of course, Irilys. Always."Then it was time to listen. The Surajan woman was already on the move to get something to write with and on. She was familiar with this sort of thing, plus she was a stickler for taking notes anyways. This time she was off to find a Magi. One who'd apparently been given a number- something that made the woman pause for a moment. Wait, why would the Magi have a number? It wasn't until the God went on that Surai understood. Her face scrunched up in displeasure, but she made no comment until the God was finished and she'd written everything down. Once that was done and she gave a quick glance over her notes, she looked up once again. "As you say, Irilys, I will do." She promised. Though she, of course, had questions. Especially for something as uncommon (at least to her) as this request. "May I ask a few questions?" It was always polite to ask that first. Sometimes it might even be no, and she would accept that without complaint. But if she were allowed, she only had a few. "Once I... Once Luca arrives," She refused to say the word "purchase," "Is there anything in particular you think I should do to make sure he sets off towards his preferred fate? Or would simply freeing him be enough to help with that?"346 WORDS FOR Irilys ― Thank you for your patience!!

"Of course." The civility in her question was appreciated though also humorous. Never had the Deity in the entirety of His existence ever declined that request. Perhaps He might say no to a specific question asked, sure. But no to questions in general? Absolutely not. He was the God of Knowledge after all. It was sort of His thing.
The Deity had known the whole purchasing a fellow living being would vex Surai. He knew her well enough by now. There was no need to have gone through these motions more than once on His end to be aware of this. Her pause in word choice would be noticed by Him, just not commented on. There was no need. This question, in many ways, was the most important one she could have asked. Inhaling lengthily the God would consider His own word choice next. This was important. Perhaps His elongation in thought would be enough to tip Surai off that this was their first time discussing this. The God didn't already have an answer ready to give immediately.
"It is not enough to simply free him." Would be the simple answer at first. There were more layers to this question and task than Irilys was willing to go into at the moment. But the purpose of this was to be educational. Education wasn't complete until there was a proper foundation usually asked in the form of "why"s and "how"s. This was no variance of that proven pattern He'd witnessed in mortals through out the centuries.
"When reintroducing the concept of freedom to a living being there generally needs to be a sense of slow pacing." Irilys would clarify. "Independence. Privileges. An allowance of another to do as they wish. When this has been removed from someone for a lengthy period of time they are usually damaged mentally from the experience." The God would make direct eye contact. This was important for her to understand after all. "Mortals are generally taught how to care for themselves physically. To brush your teeth, place bandaids upon cuts after disinfecting them. But these societies you have built are not keen on teaching how to properly heal oneself mentally."
Those eyes would shimmer once again as His name was used in a far way court room as a witness was being sworn in as was customary. "The brain, the soul, needs just as much time to heal from mental wounds as well. If not longer. To have one's spirits broken until one truly believes they are but property for someone to use as they wish and to dispose of when they are no longer useful is extremely damaging." Those eyes would blink but once. "This will require patience, kindness, softness and cautious choosing of words and environment to ease the magi through the healing process. He must learn that he is worthy of freedom after being told he is but worth a dollar amount and a task." But just as quickly did Iri's tone shift into a serious one, it now lightened once again. "I believe you are capable of handling this now. But do you?" | Tags: Surai Bazzi

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. The pause indeed did tip the young woman off that perhaps maybe this was the first time Irilys was going through this with her. She didn't comment of course, but she had gotten fairly good at spotting a few different things about her God in question. Not perfect, but Surai was a smart and curious little cookie after all. Her perception was pretty good. It was not enough to merely free the Magi. This Surai had suspected but had wanted confirmed or denied. She wasn't sure how long this individual had been kept by the slavers. The longer, probably the worse off he'd be. She hated to think of what sorts of things might have happened during that time to this man, but unfortunately she had an inkling. After all, she hadn't grown up in the best part of Suraja after all. Slowly Surai nodded as Irilys went on, not interrupting her God as He spoke. This was going to take some work for sure. But she had done far more difficult tasks for Irilys before. And as she listened further her expression soften slightly with sympathy for this Luca she was to help free. Yes, this was definitely going to take some effort on her part. However as the God asked her His question, Surai looked at him with a determined gleam in her eyes. She'd never said no to the God before; she certainly wasn't about to now. Especially not if it involved freeing someone from the slavers and getting their life back. Such a thing was... horrific. The woman wouldn't even wish that upon her worst of enemies, and she had met quite a few back home. "I think I can do this." The woman said with a little nod that was mostly to herself. "It'll be a little strange, perhaps, but I'll do my very best. Because no one deserves that kind of life." Again a look of disapproval crossed her face as a few memories surfaced. "No one deserves to have their freedom taken away like that. I'll do it, Irilys; I'll help him. You have my word." Surai promised, looking back up at her God with a set expression. 352 WORDS FOR Irilys ― Let's go free a Magi

"I think I can do this .... Because no one deserves that kind of life."
Irilys' gaze would remain glued to hers. Searching. Staring. The mortal seemed sincere. He knew His little ones. Of course she was being sincere. But the pause was Him considering how much so due to the other task He had prepared to approach the mortal with this day. "Good. Thank you." Irilys would reply, His eyes keeping its vibrant yellow hue. "Then there is something else I wish to discuss with you."
The God would glance downwards to His claws that were doing their best not to leave claw marks in the furniture He stood upon. "This will not occur until after you have known Luca the Magi for a good few weeks. But I am informing you of it now so that you can prepare yourself as well as possible prior hand." Slowly the grey-ness of the feathers the Deity had been wearing would pale. From head to claw point, the feathers' wisps would evolve into a sharp white coloration until before her stood a snowy owl. The form her God wished to display at the moment.
"I want you to take note of your time with Luca, the Child of Arithelia, because you will be utilizing what you learn ..." Irilys would blink twice, uncharacteristically still staring floorward. Only after a few tickings away on a clock's second hand would He finally look back up to Surai's eyes. "I have tried a few times to accomplish this task and have failed, requiring me to rewind. And I'm growing tired of rewinding." His voice would showcase age and a new weariness perhaps His follower had not yet heard from Him yet. "I think you are the missing piece in accomplishing what I wish to."
Delicate feathers surrounding the beak would move with the lengthy inhale and exhale gently. "I need your help in freeing a God."

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. "There is something else I wish to discuss with you."A double assignment? Or was something else amiss? Either way Irilys had Surai's rapt attention (as always). She noted the way his appearance changed form, going from a great grey owl to a stark white snowy owl. Though she didn't comment on that, as most of her attention went to his words. And how horribly tired he looked and sounded once he said them. Irilys had to rewind multiple times for this? Then it was definitely something of great import. Concern, though, etched itself onto her features at seeing her God and friend look so... bone-weary. He might have been a God, but He'd receive her care all the same. Yet there was more to be said, so she bit her tongue until he was done. Apparently she might have been the missing piece in... "I need your help in freeing a God."Oh. Surai was temporarily shocked. She'd do it, of course, but the gravity of the situation hit her upon hearing the words. Freeing a God. Freeing a God. No wonder her patron had rewinded so much for this task; clearly it was of immense importance. Once the words sunk in, she gathered herself again to speak. "If you think that I can truly help with a task like this, then I will gladly help you Irilys." She'd never seen him look so tired. She simply had to help him. She couldn't let Baba down. "I do." Irilys would say simply. If the God didn't think His follower could help He shan't have ever brought it up. But there would be no stating such. He knew Surai was a smart enough human to understand that. This was simply her process of coming to terms with what she'd just heard. It took the mortal some time but Irilys would patiently watch the process. There it was. What do I need to do? The assertation of willingness.
Irilys would nod once, a form of appreciation for His follower's compliance. "You will meet with a mortal." He would give a date, a time, a place, a description concerning her age and cybernetics. "You will address her by Rowan and she will know that it is I who sent you." The longer Irilys spoke the more apparent it became that He was, what could best be described as, tired. Tone of voice, posture, the alertness of those yellow eyes. But there were topics He wished to discuss first before He asked His final question so He would continue.
"Together I am hoping you two will succeed in the outcome I wish to see." What would follow would be a rather similar telling of events that the God had articulated to Maevia. The enslaved God was Kupiec. The chains were a contract that had been tampered with by a mortal whom He'd fallen in love with. If Kupiec were rushed into freedom then there would be horrible consequences. "And this is what I am asking of you." Irilys would say somberly. "You must help the God through the process of reobtaining His freedom ... and forgiving the one who had wronged Him."
"If you are not successful He will contort into something darker and crueler, leaving behind misery and sorrow. Vengeance in this case leaves behind much more damage and hurt than not." And it would be here that the God would do something the woman had never witnessed Him do before.
Yawn.
With heavy blinking eyes the owl would begin to shrink. "If you have questions I would love to answer them. But perhaps at a later time for I have one last request." The Deity would smile in what soft ways Surai had witnessed of Him in the past. "Others of My kind have found ways to rule over elements, abilities, visions, splendors. But I chose a rather tiring one Myself." The God would chuckle softly as He would continue to shrink until He stood no taller than even six inches. "Time is ... heavy. Would you mind terribly if I rest here?" One last chuckle would be made, "It would seem I'm asking much from you today."

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. For the next few moments Surai listened with rapt attention as she was told of her second task. This one certainly seemed harder than the first, but that did not change her willingness to assist her God in completing what had to be. Because this was definitely something important that she didn't want to mess up this time. If not for the sake of all others, than simply for Irilys himself. Because by the Gods did he look tired. Surai had noted with growing concern the change in the owl's tone. The exhaustion peeking through. Then the yawn! A God yawning of all things. It shouldn't seem so surprising but Surai couldn't remember having ever seen Irilys do that before. Frankly she was shocked. Which was how Surai ended up switching to mother-mode on her very own deity. Her features softened as Irilys went on. And as he mentioned asking much of her, Surai simply shook her head. "Baba..." A warm, yet rueful smile came to her lips as the woman stepped forward. In a motion that likely surprised even herself, she swept the now shrunken deity up into her arms in a warm and comforting embrace. "Baba when will you learn? For all your boundless intelligence you never seem to get it." Though it was a statement that very well could have been taken badly, it was said with such fondness and affection that it clearly wasn't meant as a bad thing. Surai turned off the lights before she walked back over to the couch. As she sat she nuzzled into the little owl and planted yet another kiss on his head. "You could never ask much of me because nothing is too much for me to do for you. I love you, Baba. You are family. And while that may not mean terribly too much to a deity, I can tell you this:" She leaned her head back to look her God in the eyes with a grand smile. Every word from her mouth was meant with wholehearted force. "Us Bazzi's never forget a kindness done to us by another. And you, Baba, have done my family and I- especially me- more kindness than I ever thought possible from anyone, mortal or otherwise." Another kiss was planted on his head before Surai laid out on the couch and got comfortable with a blanket; Irilys comfortably snuggled up with her. "So no, Baba, I would not mind if you rested here. In fact I insist upon it. Because even the most caring among us need to be cared for. And of all the deities, I think you care the most. And I'll tell you a secret, Baba- That's why you're my favorite." With that Surai turned the television on, put the volume and the brightness very low, and cuddled with a God.
