“ The Righteous Side of Hell." Another long, trying day had made Daniel eager to be home. The encounter with the Huntress in Her chapel—the demand She had place on him and his de facto apprentice, Orion—weighed heavily on him and it showed in the way his shoulders slumped and his eyes drooped. The throaty rumble as he gunned his bike’s engine fairly shook the night air as he sped down the empty streets. His hair and the end of his trench coat flared behind him like the wings of a gargantuan bird of prey gliding through the night. The throaty roar of the bike underneath him resounded through the streets as he gunned the engine, hoping the noise would drowned out the dismal thoughts buzzing around in his head like a hive of hyperactive bees.
How in the hells was he supposed to find a goddess?! Even if Arithelia had fallen as Kalidas Herself suggested, tracking down a being legends say birthed the entire magi race held dozens of complications, the most glaring of which was the simple fact that she surely had any number of places to hid amongst her children; it would be like hunting for a tiny needle in the largest haystack imaginable.
Eventually, the old wolf pulled into the driveway. He lowered the kickstand and killed the engine as he sighed, immediately regretting the action as his ribs reminded him of his injuries. He dismounted and strolled up to the door with his key card in hand. A few moments of holding the piece of plastic rewarded him with a soft beep and a click when the door unlocked. Daniel pushed his way in, closing the door behind him. He attempted to slip out of his coat without disturbing his injured side overly much, but he was ultimately unsuccessful and it sharpness of the pain caused him to hiss through his teeth. He put his coat in the closet near the front door and continued into the living room. The familiar sound of one of Lexie’s favorite telenovelas playing in the background but he found that it program was entertaining a sleeping audience.
Daniel smiled softly as he watched the steady rise and fall of his daughter’s chest and Mogi—who had apparently chosen to nap on her master’s belly—as the little dog loaf twitched in her sleep. He quietly walked over to the couch where Alex slept and sat on the armrest nearest to her head, tenderly stroking her hair and wondering what dreams she might be having. Slowly, he drew upon his gift, closing his eyes as the violet sheen fell over his deep brown eyes. He shifted his form to more closely resemble Mogi’s as the dreamscape swirled into existence around him. Then, he padded up to the red-headed amazon, barking softly and twisting his head inquisitively to the left as he’d seen the real Mogi do several times in the past.

History won't At this point the redhead was used to her father coming home late and only getting to see the man in the morning. With his job, it happened. She could understand why. Though it still made her worry of course. How could she not? it was simply in her nature to. Besides when he stayed out particularly long, that usually meant he'd had a particularly tricky or strenuous task.
The girl really was a mother at heart.
By the time Daniel arrived home, the redhead had been asleep for roughly an hour. Dinner was already prepared for him, though she'd put it away into the fridge when it became apparent it would grow cold before he got home. After that she'd decided to watch some of her telenovelas while waiting. During that she'd accidentally slipped into slumber. The exhaustion of her day, as full as usual, had finally caught up to her. With Mogi clambering up onto her stomach to curl up, the girl had peacefully fallen asleep. She did not wake as Daniel came in. Nor did she wake as he smoothed out her hair and delved into her dreamscape.
--------
As the landscape around him slowly swirled into place, Daniel would find himself on a beach with brilliant blue and cloudless skies stretching overhead. It couldn't be the beach in Felici though. The sand under foot- or should we say paw in this case?- was white grain and soft to the touch. It led out to beautiful clear waters, which then extended onward endlessly. Gentle waves lapped at the shore to provide a soothing ambience. It was quiet obvious that wherever they had gone it was an island. A very peaceful one at that.
On the shore stood the figure he'd come into the dream looking for. Alex was standing in the shallows of the water, simply enjoying the scenery and the feeling of the little waves on her feet. She was dressed in one of her sun dresses; the simple white one they'd gotten some time ago. As Daniel/Mogi barked and approached, the young woman turned her head back towards him. Surprise took over her features before filtering into happiness.
"Mogi! I had no idea you were here! Were you hiding from me all this time?" Walking up to what she assumed was her faithful canine companion, the amazon carefully crouched down to scratch behind the dog's ear. A wide smile was on her face. After a little bit of scratching and ruffling of fur, the little dog was easily picked up and cradled in the young woman's strong arms. And while she held the little dog loaf she scratched the pup's tummy.
"It's wonderful to see you though. Just look at this place!" With the dog in her arms she once again turned towards the wide ocean. "It's so beautiful here Mogi; I love it here. Look at how clear the waters are!" She carried her pup back into the shallows. Indeed, the waters were crystal clear. Amazingly so, even. It revealed the numerous colorful fish swimming further out from the shore along with the plantlife growing on the bottom. It could have been glass but for the constant movement of the waves giving it away.
"It's so peaceful..." The redhead sighed wistfully. "I wish I could just stay here forever. Bring you and dad along." At the mention of her father, the redhead looked down at her dog with a gentle laugh. "Do you think he would enjoy it here? Maybe we could finally get him to relax for longer than an evening. It would probably be good for him."

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." Daniel/Mogi barked happily in response to Alex’s question, falling easily into the guise of a loving, intelligent family pet. He panted happily and leaned into Alex’s hand as she knelt to scratch behind his ear. So complete was the transformation that Daniel actually began to understand why Mogi practically melted whenever she received such attention. It was only through sheer force of will that he managed to keep his hind leg from shaking. The moment—regrettably—didn’t last very long, and he soon found himself hoisted into his own daughter’s arms.
The little nub on his tail end wagged wildly as he panted in joy. There was something oddly comforting in being held close by someone he loved, even in this form. He barked his agreement when Alex mentioned the wonder of the dreamscape. It wasn’t entirely different from the days that he’d spent with her on the boardwalk outside of the Dreamweaver’s realm, but it still had a charm of its own; it was relaxing. The flow of the wind through his fur, the subtle lapping of the waves, and the slow, steady beating of Alex’s heart were like a lullaby whispered just on the edge of his hearing. He yawned as he stretched as expansively as he was able without falling out of his daughter’s arms into the water below. Standing here in his human form would’ve been nice, especially with Alex by his side.
Daniel barked a yes in reply to the question posed to him. If only you knew, kiddo, he thought.

History won't Fortunately dream Alex wasn't a suspicious Alex. That and Daniel was doing a pretty dang good job of acting like the little canine. So much so the girl gave him another good scratching behind the ear with a little laugh. After that she was content to hold Mogi (or what she thought was Mogi) for a while. Just stand there and enjoy the scenery.
However, something appeared to grab Daniel's daughter's attention at some point. Because despite the sheer beauty of the beach before he, she ended up turning her head back towards the island. Which was no slouch itself; palm trees and plant life thrived further in. It really was like a little slice of a tropical paradise. Daniel might not have spotted it from first entering her dream, but there was also a little shack nearby. A modest one that was pretty close to the water. That, however, wasn't what Alex was staring at.
They weren't alone.
Far off by the very edge of the thick vegetation of the island's own forest stood a figure. From this distance it was pretty hard to make any features other than the fact it was humanoid. Oh, and the fact that whomever it was had long, bright red hair that could have been mistake for fire. To be honest, it was almost similar in his to Alex's. though from this distance that too was hard to tell. Alex stared for a little while before sighing and idly petting Mogi/Daniel's head.
"There they are again..." It came out as a bit of a mumble before green eyes glanced down towards the canine in hand. "You see them too, Mogi?" Alex asked, looking back up. Carefully with a hand she gestured towards the faraway figure. "I see them here all the time. But no matter what I do I can't really see them. They always end up running away before I can get too close. They feel...oddly familiar but I just can't place why." The last part of her speech was more to herself than the dog in her hands. "There's just something about them I feel like I should remember. But they always go back into the trees and I can't find them." It was a constant game that Alex always lost. Although...
"Though maybe now that you're here, maybe you'd be able to reach them? You're definitely not as scary as I am." That fond statement was complete with another little ear scratch. "And if they do run off again, maybe you'd have a better time following them? I just... I feel like I should say hello but they're so shy. I can never get a word in and they never respond to me no matter what I say. Most of the time it ends up just like... well, this honestly. A stalemate." One the redhead really wanted to end. Or at least make some sort of progress in.
"So what do you say Mogi? Wanna help me say hello to our friend over there?" Alex asked. Depending on how Daniel/Mogi responded, she would either let the little dog down to approach the strang figure or keep him in her arms to pet and continue to watch whomever was observing them. Because make no mistake: it was clear the figure was watching.

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." It didn’t take long for Daniel/Mogi to notice the new scent carried to him on the breeze and even less time for him to spot the source once Alex turned around. He listened patiently to his daughter’s explanation of the distant figure while he moistened his nose with his newly elongated tongue and attempted to puzzle out how he’d missed the figure previously. His sense of smell was sharp even outside of the Dreamweaver’s realm and his new form granted him greater sense. Still, his guided forays into the dream realm told him enough about it to know that it was a malleable thing. Whether shaped by the dreamer or by the hands of Nevyne herself, one’s dreamscape was rarely the same second to second. Recurring themes were usually a sign of some deeper meaning.
These teachings were confirmed as continued to listen to his daughter speak. Something about the shack and the distant figure was obviously important to her, but she obviously didn’t understand what. Perhaps her subconscious mind was trying to hide something from her? He wondered at the reasoning behind it all. Then, he was given the opportunity to discover the reason on her behalf and gladly accepted the request with an eager bark.
Upon being set upon the sandy shore, he would pad his way over to the red-headed figure. His curiosity drove him to run as face as his decidedly shorter leg would carry him for a while before he settled into a steady trot.
What specters could be haunting his beloved daughter’s dreams?

History won't Alex remained where she was while Daniel/Mogi went off after the figure. She didn't want to end up scaring off the strange figure if Mogi really did end up getting closer to whomever that was. Make no mistake; it had to be someone.
But who?
As Daniel/Mogi got closer and closer to the figure, it made as though to head off into the woods much like Alex said it usually did. However, before it could fully disappear it suddenly froze and stayed where it was. The closer Daniel came, the more features he would be able to make out. First to come into focus was that the figure had to be female. There was no mistaking those curves as the stranger turned to face Daniel/Mogi's approach, clad in some dark attire. Second was probably a rather interesting feature: enormous wings reminiscent of a hawks' sprouted out from the woman's back, and as Mogi came closer they unfurled a little more- simultaneously showing off the coloring while also making the figure seem to loom larger. An angel? Or a Magi? Most likely the latter as her talon-line hands came into view, balled up into fists.
And as Daniel/Mogi came closer, it began a question. Would he too fine some sort of recognition looking at this apparent stranger? Or had he entirely forgotten? Whatever the case one thing was increasingly growing obvious: this woman bore an uncanny resemblance to his very daughter located back on the shore. Only instead of staring at him with softness and love, those matching green eyes were piercing and filled with complete and utter loathing. When she spoke, it was with a simmering rage biting at every word.
"What. Are. You. Doing. In MY daughter's dream?!"

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." There was something of a sinking feeling that came over Daniel as the figure loomed in size the nearer he drew. Something was oddly familiar about the figure, though he couldn’t place exactly what it was. It was clear that it was some darkly clad woman, but that told him little as there’d been several women in his life. More than that, this wasn’t his dream. How was it that a woman in his daughter’s dream could feel so familiar to him? And why did it fill him with an impending sense of doom that only increased once he noticed the wings? Those to question were answered in horrifying clarity when the woman’s wings unfurled further and she loomed even larger as she turned to face him. His eyes widened in shock, his dream form flickered dangerously, and the sense of dread grew more pressing upon meeting that hateful gaze. The flood gates opened and Daniel was rushed by the memories of the dark day he’d stolen Alexandra’s parent from her. The anger that colored each word the woman spoke further raised his hackles until his baser instincts began to show through. His form flickered again as he broke character and began to snarl viciously at the woman. His body expanded and darkened, taking on a far more menacing air. Soon, it became appallingly clear that Mogi was gone and in her place stood a great black wolf with four gleaming red eyes. The dog snarled viciously at the woman’s specter. We can’t let Lexie see her, a dark voice rumbled. Kill ‘er now! We’ve done it before; we can do it again! Daniel barked, both to silence the voice and to warn off the dead woman. “You’re dead now,” he snarled. “She doesn’t need you.”

History won't As the small corgi's form expanded and darkened with his change, the woman did not flinch away. That hateful gaze stayed riveted on the man- more like beast in his current form- that had stolen her daughter away as well as her laugh. Her lip curled up into a scowling snarl. The winds around them seemed to pick up, rustling the treelike behind her as though a heavy storm were about to roll in. And considering the woman's mood, one might as well be.
"She doesn't need me?" The woman repeated. A smile came to her face; sharp and mocking. "Oh, did you decide that before or after you killed me?" She asked, the words coming out in a deceptively sweet sing-song. Her head tilted to the side as she crossed her arms. "Mmm, no, it must've been after. Because why else would you have stolen her? Gods know you didn't even wait for my corpse to grow cold before you whisked her away to live with the man who'd killed her own parents. Her wonderful adoptive father, Daniel Caim." His name was said with such vehemence that the smile was wiped from her face and morphed back into a scowl.
"And now I have to watch as she grows up with a monster." Sharp green eyes gave his current form a once-over, as though the sight only worked to confirm her words. "My baby girl. My little Alex. All those years..." For a split second there was a crack in the thunderous face of her anger towards the man before her. Instead the grief of a mother robbed of her child peeked though, softening her expression by just a fraction. "And I never got to spend one with her. Not in the way a mother should..." There was a waver in her eyes until they landed back on Daniel. Just like that they hardened again, and the moment of grief was eaten by her rage once more.
"All because of you."
Pealing thunder rolled through the sky. What once had been a cloudless blue horizon was now marred by a thick black cloud that was rolling ever closer. Forks of lightening split down from it periodically, bringing thunderous sound with it soon after. The woman's eyes only flicked to it once before training steadily on Daniel. "I'll bet you've never even told her, huh?" She asked. "No, I'm sure you've only fed her pretty lies about me, haven't you? That seems like something you'd do. After all, how can you spin a tale about killing someone's own parents to replace them as a good thing?" The words were mocking, prodding. Her eyes narrowed into slits as she glared at the big wolf. "Make no mistake, Daniel, we both know my daughter. She'll figure it out on her own soon enough. And you should know she despises being lied to." A smile came to her face that was nothing short of malicious. "So how badly do you think she'll take being lied to her whole life, hmm?"

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." Daniel had begun to pace impatiently as the woman spoke. He wanted to rip her throat out with his fangs and savage her neck; it took every ounce of his will not to. And then she started speaking in that oddly sweet way and Daniel had to force himself not to pounce. His form seemed to grow impossibly large for any normal wolf, his eyes glowed brighter, and his fur became like wisps of black smoke curling skyward. His appearance reflected the rising need to do harm, that dark and ever-present desire to draw blood.
And yet his form still wavered at intervals.
Despite Daniel’s mounting anger, he couldn’t deny that he’d done wrong by his little girl. He’d taken her parents from her right before her eyes, scarring her. It was a different time—he, a different man—and the two of them were confirmed terrorists, but it didn’t change the fact that he’d enjoyed killing them. But when his hand rose again to finish the slaughter... he simply couldn’t. Whether it was the fact that Lexie seemed human or that she seemed so frail and helpless, something he saw in that moment made him lower his weapon and simply walk away to claim his two most recent kills. The guilt from his action that day followed him for years afterward and drove him to adopt the little girl as his own… … and lie to her for years.
His monstrous appearance softened and wisps of it were whipped away by the storm. The guilt he felt came rushing back as if someone had opened the floodgates and head lowered from the weight that settled on his head. Daniel looked at the woman again and growled, weaker this time.
“You ain’t wrong,” he said. “We both know her, and she might just hate me when she finds out. But ya know somethin’? I don’t care. She can hate me for all I’m worth.” The thought of that possibility tore him up inside. Daniel wasn’t sure he’d be able to go on without Lexie.
“She’s still my daughter and I’ll protect her with all I’ve got.”

History won't Despite the towering monstrosity standing before her, the woman did not waver. If anything her features grew harder. The winds blew harder, nearly shrieking now as a gale set upon them. Yet before the storm hit... the winds slowly subsided.
As Daniel hung his head with the heavy guilt of lying to his daughter for so long, emerald eyes turned contemplative. A silence hung in the air between the two for he span of a few uncomfortable heartbeats. Finally a sigh left the woman, and her features softened but a fraction as she regarded Daniel. "...I still despise you." She said, pure contempt flavoring the words. "Make no mistake about that; I think I always will for what you've done to my family. But..." As she trailed off the winds had subsided into a low breeze. The sudden storm overhead seemed to break and drift elsewhere.
"I can recognize I've been dealt an ironic deck with no hope of changing hands." She grumbled. "Gods know I'd love to if I could, but I get stuck with you. While not my first choice... I can see you do... care for my daughter." It felt like the words were being forced out of her. Though her visage did once again soften a fraction. "Through some grace of the gods, you do seem to care. I suppose that's all I could hope for in a situation like this." With a heavy sigh she rubbed her face exasperatedly. "Just... protect my daughter, Caim. Give her a better life than what we had. And do not let it end the same." Another pointed and angry glare was sent his way. But then it relaxed somewhat. "But you do realize you can't keep the truth from her forever, right? She'll figure it out one wa-"
"Hello?"
The woman's eyes went wide as she looked past Daniel towards the source of a rather familiar voice. There stood Alex. She'd been watching the entire exchange, and at some point decided to approach them both. With the howling winds masking her walk over, she'd managed to silently sneak up. Alex's mother took one step back, for the first time looking panicked. "Alex, no!" It came out as a rushed breath, causing the younger of the two to look even more confused. Before she could even ask a question, the elder woman breathed in deeply and let out a shriek. Well, shriek wasn't really the best way to describe it. Audible torture was more like it.The cacophony of high pitched noise was nearly ear-shattering. Alex fell to her knees holding her ears as the world around them started to melt and fade until-
-Alex awoke with a start, heart pounding and a ragged cry of alarm leaving her. Mogi- the real Mogi- was startled awake too as her owner sat up in a cold sweat. As she tried catching her breath, she noticed her father next to her. "D-Dad?" The girl whimpered shakily. What just happened? What was that nightmare?

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." He was forced to strain his hearing to its limits, but Daniel continued to listen to the dead woman speak. A confused scrunching of the nose followed the words flowing freely from her mouth. Though she said as much while wearing a disdainful expression, the woman did finally acknowledge that he truly cared for Alex and told him to protect her.
As if he needed someone to tell him as much…
Though he might’ve had his own selfish reasons, Daniel had chosen not to tell his daughter about her birth parents for that very reason. The trauma she suffered stole her memory of them. Reminding her of those dreadful experiences seemed so… cruel… and Daniel felt as though he’d dealt enough unnecessary cruelty into the world. She was blissfully ignorant of the thing’s he’d done in his previous life and he intended to keep it that way for a long as possible.
“Everything I do is for her,” Daniel said plainly. “Don’t need you ta tell me any of that. I’ll protect her and give her a better life, even if it kills me.” A wolfish approximation of a grin twisted his muzzle in a brooding smile. His heart sank to his paws and the expression died on his face when he heard yet another familiar voice. He turned to follow the dead woman’s gaze, hoping against hope that Alex hadn’t snuck up on the two of them while the ghost haunted her sleep. He’d been so focused on his argument that he’d almost completely forgotten his little girl’s presence and howling winds buried the sound of her footsteps as she approached.
How long had she been standing there?! What did she hear!?
“Lexie…”
Whatever he would’ve said next was lost to the gods awful screech that pierced the air and the pure agony it brought. Daniel yelped as flattened his ears to his head in a desperate attempt to block out the discordant cry.
As suddenly as it began, the scream ended and Daniel’s eyes flashed open. The luminescent glow faded from his eyes almost immediately as he withdrew his hand even before Mogi fled. He tried desperately to bring his racing heart under control and keep the trauma of what just occurred from marring his features. Even then, his concern—possibly laced with hints of fear—lingered in his expression.
“You alright there, Lexie?” Daniel asked, praying his voice at least sounded even. “Looked like ya were havin’ on helluva nightmare there.” Gods, just let her think it was a dream.

History won't Gods above, what was that?
Alex's heart felt like it was trying to beat its way out of her chest. The rapid pace it had set up thumped painfully against her ribcage as her breath came quick. Her mind was in panic mode. So much so that she didn't even register her faithful canine companion's startled scramble away. It was only after a few breaths that she'd recognized and spoken to Daniel. And even then she felt like something was trying to claw its way out of that dream- no, that nightmare. Something dark and heavy that was pulling at the edges of her senses. A horrible headache began to make itself known by the pounding in her skull.
Instead of answering she merely groaned and grabbed her head. A ringing sound was playing through her ears, certainly not helping with the sudden onslaught of head pain she was experiencing. "Head... hurts." The young woman managed to say between heavy thumps of the metaphorical hammer in her brain. She needed water. Something- anything- to make this pain stop.
Stumbling unsteadily to her feet, she slowly and almost drunkenly made her way towards the kitchen for a glass of water. It felt like her whole world had been flipped upside down once or thrice, and her body was only just now trying to regain its balance. One way or another, either with or without Daniel's help, the redhead would make it to the kitchen and get herself a glass of water from the sink. After downing about 3 of those, only then would she feel composed enough to speak. "I... I had a nightmare, I think." She replied at last. "I-It was..." As she tried to conjure up images of the dream, they slipped just out of her grasp. What she could drag up felt foggy and uncertain. Like she was trying to make her way through a heavy fog with a flashlight. She knew something was out there, but she had no idea where and how to find it. "I... I can't remember. T-There was a... I think a beach? Then a dog- Mogi? But no it was some big wolf and there was someone else but..." It was slipping away faster. Every second she seemed to lose more and more of the images left. The frustration furrowed her brow, but there was nothing she could do about it.
It was gone.
"...That's all I can remember. I-It's too foggy now, I can't... I can't tell what else happened." As she leaned heavily against the table, she shook her head. Those green eyes of hers turned towards Daniel- familiar, but these did not burn with hatred. Instead they just seemed worried, and a little bit freaked out. "Whatever it was... I-I feel... I feel kind of scared, Dad." The redhead finally admitted quietly.

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." “Lexie?!”
Daniel was on his feet the instant Alex stood up. All thought for his own concerns faded into the background as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders to steady her, worry contorting his face into and etching line into his scarred face. He let her lean on him for support as she made her way to the kitchen and rapidly down three glasses of water from the sink. His heart was in danger of leaping up his throat and out his mouth every second that he watched his beloved daughter. A thousand thoughts swirled like a maelstrom through his skull.
Was she alright?
Was there something he could do?
Then, Lexie started talking again. She sounded shaken and it tore him up inside to see her suffering, and even more so not knowing how he could help her. He tried to swallow the lump forming in his throat while she described the nightmare she’d just had. There were enough details there to cause him to worry that she might have learned the truth about her heritage and his role in taking that away from her. The old wolf felt a wave of relief rush over him that was swiftly followed by one of disgust with himself. He knew it was selfish of him to feel any sort of reprieve that his daughter still couldn’t remember his crimes against her, but this was his little girl. Losing her was a thought that he didn’t dare entertain for even a second.
“You’re alright now, Lexie,” Daniel said. “I’m here for ya, and I ain’t gonna let anythin’ happen ta my little girl.” Daniel swaddled Lexie in a hug and petted her head. He’d stand there holding his little girl for however long she needed him, comforting her with his presence and fighting down the specters of thought that attempted to worm their way into his mind.
It was all he could think to do for the moment.

History won't Alex settled into her father's arms and, for once, let herself be as vulnerable as she felt. There was a certain level of safety to be felt in that embrace. One that definitely made her relax somewhat as she hugged back and buried her face into Daniel's shoulder. This... reminded her a lot of when she was younger. When she wasn't quite as solid as she was now; more unsure and awkward about everything really. But her dad had always been there for her like he was now. The kind shoulder she needed to lean on from time to time. And right now she definitely needed somebody to lean on.
The redhead took a few moments to collect herself. As warm, loving, and protective her dad's embrace was, she still felt unsettled. Shaken. Haunted. Something about that nightmare was sticking with her despite the fact she could barely remember it. It was beyond frustrating, but Alex found herself too tired to care at the moment. Her once peaceful slumber had been violently interrupted and she felt emotionally drained. Whatever this nightmare was trying to tell her would have to wait until tomorrow.
"...Thank you dad." The girl finally spoke. Her words were slightly muffled from her position, but she leaned back her head to give Daniel a smile. It was fond, but weary. The redhead desperately needed to try for more sleep. Hopefully undisturbed this time. "You're always here for me when I need it." She added softly. Leaning forward once more, the young girl placed an affection kiss to her father's forehead before giving him another hug. "I... don't know what that all was about, but I probably should try to get more sleep." With how exhausted the redhead was feeling, it shouldn't be too hard. When she pulled back she shifted on her feet slightly and clasped her hands wringing before her. A very rare case of shyness came over her: the action one she used to do when she was much younger and embarrassed about asking for something.
"Could... Could you stay and watch tv with me until I fall asleep again?" Alex finally asked, lifting her eyes up off the ground to look at her father. "We can pick whatever you want to watch- I just..." She trailed off for a moment and glanced away again. "...I just really don't want to be alone again after that." The admission came off in a quiet, mumbled tone. One that conveyed the lingering sense of anxiety her nightmare had given her.

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." “I’m always gonna be here for ya, Lexie,” Daniel said, reassuringly. “I ain’t goin’ nowhere, so ya can always count on me, ya hear?” The old wolf forced a smile as Alex leaned in for a kiss on the head and another hug. He could tell by the way she clung to him that she still wasn’t quite to her normal self yet. There was no way that he could possibly blame her. That nightmare had been a hellish experience for them both. He was still a little shaken himself—albeit for an entirely different reason—though he wouldn’t allow himself to show it for even a second. Lexie needed him to be as strong as he’d ever been, so he could be nothing less than that.
“Probably a good idea for both of us,” Daniel agreed. The experience had been draining on him as well and seemed as though all the stress of the day was crashing down on his head all at once. He felt more exhausted than he had in months; sleep was sounding like an excellent idea.
Lexie pulled away again and did something she’d not done in a very long time. Shyness dominated her every gesture as she asked him if she would stay by her side for the night. Daniel smiled, briefly seeing the little girl he’d brought home so many years ago. He’d barely known how to take care of himself back then, much less a confused child. It all worked out in the end and Alex had grown into a fine young woman that made him proud every day. For now though, she was that same little girl from eight years ago; she needed her big bad wolf.
“Don’t see a problem with that.” Daniel returned to the living room, retrieved the remote, and switched the television on before settling down on the couch. He flipped through the channels until he found one Alexandra’s beloved telenovelas allowed her to settle into whatever position the felt was most comfortable. Then, he would periodically glance at the girl until the very moment she fell asleep before following her example.
