“ The Righteous Side of Hell." Lemme tell ya somethin'
317
Daniel forced away a grin that threatened to overwhelm the business-like expression he wore. He dredged up the list of bullet points he kept in the back of his head for just such a conversation with a prospective hunter. It was an honest surprise that he was finally getting the opportunity to use them; normally he would spend his days stuck behind a desk while he signed paper after paper. Field work was a nice change of pace and it carried an added pleasure of possibly gaining a recruit.
It would be a little difficult with the refusal to kill magi would make the task slightly more difficult, so he decided that he’d work the spirit angle more than anything. Daniel wasn’t quite comfortable with pitting an untested rookie against the very same reason his ribs still bothered him. Truth be told he couldn’t afford to be picky at this point in the game.
“First thing I’m gonna say is that you won’t be forced ta hunt magi,” Daniel began. “I’ll tell ya that there some out there that won’t be as considerate as you, so I’ll expect ya ta defend yourself and anyone that gets inta trouble. Other than that, no huntin’ magi unless I give you a direct order to.
“Next thing wanna ask is if you know anythin’ about spirits? Ya know, like the ones that attacked that island a while back?” Daniel waited for whatever answer he’d receive before continuing. “Thing is, they apparently ain’t the only ones that wanna cause trouble for us, so I’m startin’ my own little squad ta take care of it. Problem with that is that I don’t exactly have young pups linin’ up for the gig yet. If ya wanted ta go for that, I could set it up so ya’d be takin’ your orders right from my mouth. I’d even be the one ta train ya.”

[googlefont="Marvel|Bubbler One"][nospaces] A Hurricane on the Rooftops "I've always defended myself. My parents taught me weaponry for a reason. Beliefs are there to be defended after all." She smiled slightly. Then the guy spoke about spirits and how they attacked an island awhile back and she nodded.
[break][break] "I think I heard something about that island. Hadn't really surprised me considering something was bound to be out of balance. Some spirits upset the balance of predator and prey and need to be taken down. Just the way of it. Not all spirits are like that though. My mum was a firm believer in the circle of life and spirits having good and evil possibilities same as human beings and magi." In Dehlia's mind cyborgs were basically the same as humans. Only difference were the cybernetics. She heard the guy say he was creating a squad to take care of the unruly spirits and she nodded in understanding. He mentioned he'd been having trouble finding young ones for it. That if she accepted she'd be taking orders straight from him and that he'd train her. [break][break] "Well you know technically I don't know you either." What? It was logical! He was a stranger, albeit a stranger she'd met by hanging from a tree upside down: the best way to meet a stranger obviously. Dehlia was nothing if not a bit strange, although she didn't really realize that yet. [break][break] "That said, I am interested in doing it. Spirits are something that interest me as a whole. And it might give me some everyday experience with my runes. So I'm going to take you up on that. The better I can get at defending myself and attacking the better. And someone does have to take care of the spirits that are busy causing trouble."

“ The Righteous Side of Hell." Daniel nodded along with all the spiritual views spouting from the young woman’s mouth. Personally, he thought it was all useless nonsense, but he could overlook it all so long as she was capable of holding her own in combat and following his orders. The refusal to harm magi was still a worrisome obstacle to overcome though. It would make finding opportunities for training sparse at best and he was reluctant to throw an untested prospect into the fray against a spirit. Even he—a veteran hunter—would have been hard pressed to face an opponent like that, and his previous experience doing so hadn’t left him unscathed.
“Truth be told, kid, I understand what ya mean,” Daniel said. “Less as far a as magi and the like go. I’ve seen enough of both to know that there’s good and bad. Only thin’ a really care about is gettin’ rid of the ones that cause more trouble than their worth." He narrowed his eyes at Dehlia.
“And I don’t know you either, but I’m still takin’ a chance on ya,” Daniel countered. Her tune changed quickly enough that the old wolf swept the comment under the rug in favor of moving forward. Even so, he made a quick mental note of it.
“Sounds good, kid. There’s a few thing that I gotta take care of for ya ta get in. Just show up first thing next week and we’ll get ya started. License and whatnot. Til then, I got papers that need signin’.” With that, Daniel said his goodbyes and started making his way back to his motorcycle to return to the stack of papers he was sure had grown in his absence.
Oh, joy…

[googlefont="Marvel|Bubbler One"][nospaces] A Hurricane on the Rooftops Dehlia heard the hunter say he had seen both good and bad magi and she sighed, nodding slowly. She understood not all magi were good. [break][break] "Truth be told, I wouldn't have much problem with the bad magi being hunted down, but regardless I have a problem with people killing. I'm not cool with people playing judge jury or executioner with anyone, magi included." It was just...wrong. Trials were a part of civilization and if someone wasn't allowed one, that struck her as incredibly odd. Unfair even. Then she saw the guy's eyes narrow as he said that he was taking a chance on someone he didn't know either and she laughed. [break][break] "Fair enough, fair enough." Then she heard the directions from the guy, talking about paperwork he had to do to get her accepted into the guild. That and him saying she just needed to show up, presumably to the Hunter's Guild next week. [break][break] It had been an unexpected encounter for sure, from beginning to end. She didn't expect anything different when she started talking to someone after dropping upside down out of a tree to greet them. But she hadn't expected to end up with someone willing to train her as a hunter, and definitely didn't think she'd be agreeing to that. But she was just hunting spirits. Spirits she could do. She almost sort of looked forward to it in fact. It was always good to have another challenge on her plate. Dee relished the opportunities, especially if they came with the possibility of learning something entirely new. It was time for her to go home and think of ways to approach the new opportunity. The time in the park had been wonderful, but now she wasn't bored. She had yet another thing to do. She looked forward to it.
