ARTIFACTS OVERHAUL
This may be just an idea that has been considered and shot down many times, but I still want to present it for judging anyways because I am not afraid of failure. Artifacts are a cool idea, but the the way they are implemented on the site I think could be done way better. Giving participation points for events is neat, but not coupling it with other ways of attaining points leaves them as a null feature in my opinion. I understand the thinking behind the 25 points for a Holy Artifact, but just let me say that I don't think that the site will ever reach that many with the schedule of the staff members at large.
The changes I want to suggest mostly though apply to mostly the Minor Artifacts with a few other alterations to the other categories of Artifacts as I come up with ideas.
Minor Artifacts
NOTE: Instead of just calling all the artifacts in this list "Minor" I would opt for a different name. These are items with often varied and differing effects and I think they should be given a better name since they have their own merits. For this thread, I'm going to suggest that they be named: Mystic Artifacts (Because I am not a genius when it comes to naming things)
""
The Heraldic Circle: The Heraldic Circle is made up of artifacts that have the most entrancing affinity with human desire. Desire birthed them and thus is the fuel that sustains them. Most of the time, fanciful adventurers seek them as a means to an end and then did away with them once they achieved their goals. For that particular reason, the Heraldic Circle of artifacts are prized, but they have a habit of not keeping to one owner once they have found the object of their desire. With that being said, Heraldic Artifacts favor the adventurous and the daring. They cling to desire and feed off of it only to be mostly neglected or dismissed later on. They are by necessity fickle and one should not expect to keep a Herald for too long.
- Obtaining: Any established Member who has accumulated 50 or more posts may request a 'loan' of a Heraldic artifact for that specific character to be returned or otherwise lost IC at a specified date or after an agreed-upon plot point has been reached. Think of these as the 'treasure' being sought after for IC purposes. These 'loans' may occur as often as desired so long as they adhere to the 1 Artifact p/character rule. Staff may feel free though to create time frames in which no more artifacts may be taken or by the same members or even have them emerge in 'waves'.

The Crest Circle: The Crest Circle are unique artifacts dating back to the creation of Magi, most with unique ties to Arithelia. While their legend has waned in recent years, the Crest Circle are extremely revered by droves of Magi with many wandering the world as nomads in search of them for decades only to come up empty-handed.
- Obtaining: 6 Event Points.

The Forgotten Circle: The foulest but also one of the most unknown of circles. Most in this category bear the fruits of quite wicked deeds and may be considered by the common fodder to be 'evil' in a sense. A few were conceived as Necromantic hedge artifacts by Opgraven and one was a gift gone awry by the Mad God but the last one is simply a humble lantern meant to illuminate those who have long since been forgotten. Though openly considered malevolent, they are in truth just pieces of history that have taken on different meanings as they drift along on the tides of fate.
- Obtaining: The Forgotten Circle are probably among the most unique class. The Lantern longs for a home and can be obtained by anyone through request (though it has a habit of leaving soon after). Opgraven's Lost Artifacts frequently appear around Ghosts and may appear after a random Spirit Encounter when the full moon is at its peak. (Subject to approval. Would work like this: The Staff put up when the full moon is at its peak and do it like a drawing with people who apply and are approved.) Lastly, Repunzel's Comb favors female characters and may appear to those of whom show unwavering devotion to the Mad God.
Bone Scarab Cursed Artifact - Unclaimed
Opgraven's Necronomicon - Unclaimed
Ring of Endor - Unclaimed
Repunzel's Comb - Unclaimed
Lantern of Diogenes - Unclaimed (Note: I would honestly like to make this artifact accessible to almost every character in order to make it possible for more people to meaningfully interact with Ghost characters IC. Think of it as an Artifact that constantly appears and drifts around like the Heraldic Artifacts.)

The Ascendant Circle: The Ascendant Circle are the rarest and most shrouded of the Mystic Artifacts. All bestow blessings bearing the unbridled force of nature, entitling the user to a certain degree of status given the powerful abilities of the item they now possess. These very coveted pieces weigh heavily on the user and are best not to be toyed around with, even by their owners.
- Obtaining: 8 Event Points
Wings of Irylis - Unclaimed (Angel of the Skies)

Eirene's Bracelet - Unclaimed (King of the Spirits)

Noble Artifacts
Chaotic Remnants: Artifacts that are aligned with or at most associated with chaos and disorder. Less of a category and more of just a comment about how these artifacts are seen in mythology. Chaotic Artifacts tend to emphasize and personify the concepts of temptation and want.
Apple of Discord - Unclaimed
A golden apple blessed by the Mad God in the Olden age. When tossed, whoever gazes upon it has an unquenchable desire to have it, causing everyone to frantically fight for it.
EVENT ARTIFACT: Really.. What does this do other then be desirable? I understand if that is meant to be a secret or something to be revealed later, but really no person making a character would really want to possess this apple which leads me to believe that it is a plot-relevant artifact rather than something intended for characters.
Nevyne's Dream Catcher - Unclaimed
An ordinary-looking dream catcher blessed by the goddess of dreams. however it's not dreams that it catches, but memories, and is able to remove or restore memories in a person.
Note: So... basically the same as Memory Change that now can be gotten by Zero Magi in a convenient artifact. From where I stand, this is probably a 10 Event Point Artifact, but beyond that I don't know what other suggestions to offer.
Choker of Bones - Unclaimed (Arch Necromancer)
This tight-fitting choker is blessed by Nevyne and made of many small, carved bones that seem to dig into your flesh when worn. It is said the wearer of this choker will be able to cast necromancy spells at a much greater strength, three times as effective to be exact. However This comes at a price. Nevyne cursed the necklace to ensure obedience of her Necromancer. The choker's bones tightens and pierces the neck whenever the host tries to defy the goddess. Still though, the power it bestows does give some hefty weight to the Necromancer's strength, entitling them to just as much fear as recognition and apprehension to their very presence.
NOTE: Since this only has value to a Necromancer, it's power is limited in use so I'd definitely put this as another artifact that would serve better as a prize to perhaps a Necromancer Character with Event Points of 4 or more and has mastered at least 2 of the Necromancy abilities. Meaning that once a person gets to that point, the Necromancer can take the next step and pledge allegiance to Nevyne in exchange for additional power.
Scorpion Ring - Unclaimed
A ring that must be pierced into the user (ear, lip, tongue, etc), made from the stinger of an ancient scorpion. Said to be blessed by Va’Sai, goddess of toxins and poisons, the ring renders the wearer immune to all poisons, both magical and synthetic in nature, including downers, uppers, and tranquilizers.
EVENT ARTIFACT: I wouldn't be extra stingy with this artifact. Yeah, this Artifact needs to be super rare and not be given out willy nilly, but to become immune to drugs would be worthy treasure perhaps gifted upon a character reaching 5 Event Points if they so choose.
Staff of the Herald - Unclaimed
A small gold wand entwined by twin serpents. Blessed by Kupiec the god of Commerce, Those that hold it spend less money to purchase abilities.
EVENT ARTIFACT: I think this Artifact would be a most worthwhile to give to someone 'for a limited time' instead of letting a person basically own all to themselves. Personally, I'd consider the Staff of the Herald and the Scorpion Ring to be in the same category and something that a participant can earn rightfully or be chosen for and be given for a limited time. You could even have a drawing or lottery of some sort after an event has taken place.
Knights of Round Just as the Chaotic Remnants represent discord, the Knights represent order and most of society will generally think well of the legends and seekers as they personify the concepts of justice, strength, and fortitude.
Arondight - Unclaimed
Sword of the greatest knight, Lancelot, who's known for his mastery of every weapon and Blessed by Irylis. Those who hold the sword share in Lancelot's mastery of Weaponry.
NOTE: IDK
Blessed by Nevyne, the Knife's edge transforms objects it pierces into Glass.
Note: Personally, I think Cinderella's Glass Knife might be a bit much. I would eliminate or replace it and its effect, but that is just my opinion. It kinda doesn't feel like a Noble Artifact in my opinion for two reasons. Any person would avoid being cut by this thing and its not really all that exciting.
Gáe Derg - Unclaimed
A six foot crimson spear Blessed by the great huntress. It said that it's blade can hit things even on the Ethereal plain. Any wounds inflicted by the blade never fully heal and always remain upon the victim's body.
NOTE: Want to combine Gae Derg with Gae Bulg's effect.
Ascalon - Unclaimed (Suggested Artifact)
TBA
NOTE: ????
Makado Charm - Unclaimed
A Charm Blessed by Lucivry, Goddess of War. Shaped like two interlocking arms. The possessor gains super upper-body strength, so much so that their physicality is altered. It is now quite obvious that you skipped leg day.
NOTE: To be perfectly honest, compared to the amazing artifacts on this list, I really think this one falls short. I'd say this should be put in with the Mystic Artifacts in the Heraldic or Forgotten Circles. I could be the only one who feels this way however, but the effect does seem lackluster by comparison without the ability for the user to basically turn into the Hulk if it's not just a gag artifact.
Holy Artifacts
NOTES: Personally, I feel that a few of the Holy Artifacts are too powerful and some aren't powerful enough. At 25 Event Points, they go too far in my opinion and end up being something no one can afford and at the end of the day few people might want. I'd suggest scaling back some of these items so that they are at least achievable and are not so very overpowering but still rewarding. Really, even Sassy only has 4 Event points and she is our most active poster by far. With the staff's busy schedules, I think it is time to be realistic with regards to the number of the events the staff will be able to reasonably do over the course of a year because as it is I don't see us getting beyond 4 maybe 5 events.
With that being said, I do get where the staff are going with these objects of power. These are meant to be the ultimate achievement in terms of character development and items that man would willingly trade his kingdom for. Few are capable of holding them and they should be worthy of song in the annals of legend.
Cost: 12-16 Event points + Additional Prerequisite
Golden Fleece - Unclaimed
A golden pelt blessed by Rapha the Patron deity of Doctors and Healers. Gifts the patron with eternal youth and greatly enhanced stamina. Owners of the Fleece are often able to go for up to 6 days without sleeping and heal all injuries sustained whenever the wearer does fall into a deep sleep.
NOTE: I liked the effect of the Golden Fleece, but it sounded like the owner healed constantly and I kinda felt that was why it was overpowered.
Bow of Shemesh - Unclaimed
The infamous bow that claimed the life of the hero Achilles. It is said that Paris of Suraja was blessed by the sun god Shemesh to take down the champion of a rival god. The arrows fired from this bow instills mortality in its victims; Causing weakness, fear. It is claimed that this bow could even harm the immortals.
NOTE: A Bow that kills Gods. This is one that I have little to say about. Definitely worth its ranking.
Nægling (Corrupted Artifact) - Unclaimed (Replaced Gáe Bulg)
One of the most revered Artifacts once wielded by a legendary hero who slew the monstrous Lord of the Deep Coinchenn. A ten foot Javelin made from the bone of the great sea creature Coinchenn and blessed by Kalidas as a reward for his great hunt. The spear has been corrupted and now bears a heavy, foreboding curse. The head of the javelin can become a whip, allowing it to extend its reach by an extra 3 meters. It also has a never-ending supply of poison and venom that it inflicts upon all wounds, steadily sapping the victim's strength. The user can spew venom around a battlefield like a fountain, creating whole toxic marshes around the landscape and can also melt weak materials to make them easier to pierce through. In exchange however, the weapon gradually corrodes the user's soul and body.
NOTE: Gáe Bulg in my opinion kinda feels like a repeat of Gae Derg and its effect can be easily transferred over, leaving it a bit underpowered for its class. I think this would be a better alternative with a more rewarding effect, though I think the best I can do is offer a minor improvement.
Excalibur -CLAIMED! Owner: Unknown
The Ancient sword that is said to never dull, and shined as bright as the sun itself. Even the scabbard is said to be an artifact, blessed with healing properties to prevent blood loss in battle. Considered the greatest of all the Artifacts.
NOTE: IDK
Johann's Metronome - Unclaimed
A powerful Relic said to bring back to life a single character as long as the metronome ticks. It's unknown who blessed such a blasphemous item. The Metronome activates when the user places one hand on the active Metronome while placing the other hand over the heart of the deceased and thinking of them as they were while they still lived, essentially creating a temporary bond between themselves and the deceased to the artifact. This will bring them a large white void with the deceased in sight. The user must avoid "going into the light" along with the deceased, which would result in their death as well. While the bond is intact, the pendulum that beats represents the user's life force and vitality. Upon returning alive, the bond is severed and the pendulum returns to normal.
EVENT ARTIFACT: I love the concept here, though I will suggest making this an Artifact that 'appears' suddenly from time to time to be used as something for events since it is a pretty plot-related item to give a character a second chance at life. Definitely noteworthy to have an artifact that can bring back one person from the dead, but I am suggesting a revamped explanation.
Shield of Evalach - Unclaimed
The shield of a holy knight of Tsadoq, the god of law, order, truth and justice. When slain in battle, he took his last breaths to paint a red cross on the shield with his own blood. Now blessed with Tsadoq's protection, the shield disrupts both Runic magic as well as Necromancy and the user is able to use the holy gift of Enlightened Magic. The heavenly light exuded by the shield disintegrates all reanimated corpses within 20 feet in front and Runes touched by the user are immediately dispelled. The shield also is heavily resistant to elemental magic and is incapable of melting, rusting, electrocuting, and being torn away by telepathy.
NOTE: Yeah... A shield that blocks the very concept of harm I think is way too OP and completely fun-breaking. This might be just me, but danger is fun. A character that cannot be harmed through no means at all is boring in my opinion so I want to scale back this artifact. The Light Magic mentioned would be a list of about 5-6 spells and each new user would choose 3. I could add detail to that, but I think you can imagine where I'm going with this to try and balance this artifact.
