Notes broods like angry babysitter
| 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Dullahan crossed her arms and waited, watching, leaning up against the cool brick of the alley between two apartments. Magi were holding a protest in a local residential park, only a handful in all; magi in Felici weren’t common, and yet they somehow always managed to cause trouble. These weren’t violent, but they were loud, and unfortunately, within their rights, no matter how many times the residents filed with the local police. They never received anything more than citations, and yet they remained steadfast. The evening sun gave the sky a distinct orange color, and the park across the street was winding down with activity. The magi near the small fountain were getting ready to pack their signs and call it for the day. She gave a side-eyed glance to her hunter partner for this mission; a somewhat green recruit, with a rich name and dedication to the guild beyond most. And, by all reports, one who volunteered for bionics. She wrinkled her nose at this, and had hardly said a word to him; bionics were fools. They didn’t know how good they had it, possessing a completely human body, and they go on and ruin them. Disgusting, really, but she had to play nice for now. Part of her hoped he was at least capable, and another wanted him to screw up so she could have an excuse to beat some sense into him. The former was certainly preferred. Talk had been small until now, but it was almost time for them to move. The mission was simple, if vague; find the building containing a suspected magi terrorist cell, and take necessary action. Problem was they didn’t know exactly which building. However… the protesters were suspects, and so she would have to get them to talk. And she wasn’t about to bring them in for official questioning; time was of the essence, after all. Without looking at him, she spoke, low and even. “What did they tell you of our goals today?” She found that hunters were not often briefed to the same level as her, but perhaps that was due to ignorance rather than the fault of officers; she found it hard to believe they kept hunters in the dark so often. |

blood on my name THERE'S A RECKONING A COMING, IT BURNS BEYOND THE GRAVE
Archaleos had the hunch that this mission would turn out to be a bit more complex than the average assignment, but finding the protesters who served as their initial suspects was, at least, ridiculously easy. All the police reports told of how the group made it a habit to camp out on this one rectangle of vaguely tended grass and trees as they went about their "demonstrations" and, if that hadn't been enough to point them right towards their targets, the noise these magi made would have been enough. You could hear them clear down the block; what an annoyance. Yes, annoying— but illegal? Not so much. Gathering in a group to wave around signs and shout was far from the level of what could be called terrorism, and that was what Archaleos and his partner were here to sniff out. Speaking of which... said partner didn't seem to be the type for any small talk. The Hunter knew very little about the woman beyond the fact that she was a hosted human, bearing far more mechanized parts out of the two of them, and that she was at the beck and call of the central government rather than the Guild. Oh, also that she went by Dullahan; no other identification provided. Archaleos could be prodded into admitting that he was curious about her (a side effect of having so little information), but it had become quickly apparent that she was either A) very cold and standoffish to everyone she met or B) had an issue with him in particular. His response to that had just been to shrug and turn his focus entirely to the mission at hand. Of course he wondered what made her so loathe to even exchange pleasantries but, in the end, Archaleos was no stranger to thinly veiled dislike— for his ideals, his family name, his enhancements —and was content to have silence. It was easier to focus that way. The Hunter had always been the type to methodically analyze a situation if given the chance, and stood with arms crossed as his gaze tracked the grouping of magi. Count them. Note the features, what type of magic each could possibly wield. Consider the environment and what it would be like to fight here. Archaleos had been quite engrossed in this task of silently noting down what he saw when his partner spoke up, drawing his eyes towards her. ❝'Locate the base of operations of the terrorist group in the area and halt any illegal activities. Bring in members for questioning, if possible.'❞ He recited the brief summary of the mission as it had been told to him. The way she'd asked, it implied that she might have more knowledge but, then again, that was only the suspicion Archaleos got. ❝Why? Is there more to it?❞

Notes teacher voice; and this is how you interrogate magi. take notes!
| 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID She kept her eye focused on the magi, now saying goodbyes and slowly starting to disperse. “There’s always more to it,” she stated. “I always check. Yeah, that’s the gist.” She looked down at him for a second. She wondered… just how smart was this hunter? She didn’t have much confidence; anyone dumb enough to replace what they had with false parts was a shortsighted fool, but maybe he was better at analysis than decision-making. Her eye went up and found its target; an earth magi, judging by the vines for hair and barklike skin. She pushed herself off the wall and walked a brisk pace towards the lone magi, probably half a block away and heading towards some other apartment buildings. She made a small hand motion to Arch. “Come on.” She put her hands in her coat pocket and looked ahead. “Don’t look at him. You’ll spook him. Keep him in your peripheral.” There was a good chance he already was, but it was better to teach the kid proper approach. Hunters lacked tact, from her experience. “If shit goes down in that hideout, kill first, capture later. I’m not taking a fireball to the back because you want to bring in a live one. They aren’t worth the mercy, and they can’t be trusted. Remember that, and you’ll be coming back alive.” As expected, the magi wasn’t going into an apartment building, but into an alley between them. Perfect. They were almost on him now, and she wasn’t surprised in the slightest to see him standing there, expecting them halfway down the alley. “Why are you following me? Hunters? I have rights, you know!” Oh, he was nervous, and that meant he was about to do something stupid. “Just need answers,” Dullahan replied, taking her hands from her pockets. “And you better give me them. Where’s the damn hideout?” Subtlety was not her forte, and it didn’t need to be. She knew exactly where he was going with this; you don’t work on the job for years without getting a sense for this type of situation. So when the magi turned to lift some bricks with his magic, Dullahan’s thrusters had already popped and the gap was erased. She landed in front of him and greeted him with a vicious punch to the gut, which sent him doubling over and interrupting his attack on her. And that’s what it was, at least, according to the official record. She grabbed him by the throat and slammed him against the wall, leaving the plantlike magi to dangle off the ground and wrap his hands around Dullahan’s wrists. He squirmed too much. She hooked him across the jaw with her free hand, sending at least one tooth skipping down the alley. “Right. Let’s try this again. Where’s the damn hideout?” ”Fuck… you!” The magi said, blood trickling from his mouth. He threw a punch, which Dullahan caught with her hand. Slowly she crushed his curled fingers within her inhuman grip. He whined, and struggled, and pleaded… one crack. A scream. Two more cracks. A breathless yell. A crack loud enough to echo. ”Okayokayokay! Okay… s-stop! Please! A-ah...Dammit…!”
Tears streamed down his face as much as blood did from his mouth. He spilled the info, words muddled from his injured jaw and from his sobs and gasps of pain. It lined up with their suspicions; the building was in Pauvres, down the street where they saw activity. Before he could beg or plead once he told her everything, she slammed him against the wall, his head connecting with a sickening thud… and he was motionless.
“That’s our next stop. And if that didn’t kill him, we have our captive right here,” she said. She hefted the limp body unceremoniously into a nearby dumpster with a thwump and closed the lid. “We’ll pick him up after we’re done.”
