Sweet Nothings: Pastries and Puffs. This was one of a very small number of places in the world where everyone could come to enjoy themselves, utterly free of obligations and stigmas of race, social standing, and all sort of other societal constraints. A cyborg could walk in and order something sweet and tasty to snack on just as easily as a human could. Hell, even magi were welcomed with open arms (though you weren’t very likely to see that particular occurrence all that often, if at all). Not to mention that it was run by a person that was quite possibly the sweetest gal in the city, if not the world. Daniel didn’t know all that much about the shops de facto owner, but what he did know mostly came from two of the woman’s elder brothers—Fletcher and Jasper. Those two were one of the few active members of the Hunter’s Guild that he’d dare call decent; it meant that they still hunted magi, but hopefully for more noble reasons than he did back in the day. Even so, they were kin to one of the best things to happen in the world; gave him hope that humans weren’t completely lost. Maybe, given time, there would be more places like it.
Hopefully with less egg and gratuitous graffiti all over the front window.
Daniel’s gloved hand curled into a tightly balled fist at the sight; some two-bit punks with a point to prove had plastered the front of Sweet Nothings with all manner of vile insults and rude gestures. The sight of it made him beyond angry.
“Someone’s gonna have a really bad day over this,” he growled. "Specially if I get my hands one whoever did this."

Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ Kel knew that her shop was an oddity. She knew that it was quietly one of the places where cyborg and human could convene for a sweet treat, without any prejudice. If Magi were around more she would serve them just as well. The woman knew that the world wasn’t fair and she knew that all people were equal, regardless if you were a hunter, student, magi, cyborg, or just plain human. She also knew she should be quiet about her ideas. Felici had a swift judgment system and if something didn’t fit in right, the new would be around the city faster than she could bake a cake. So She had to be careful with what she said and show she said it. She wouldn’t want to be formally labeled as a magi supporter. Somehow, someone had said something and whispers had gotten around. Maybe it was her recent trip to Dagos. Yes, she had handed out food in the slums, but she had been careful. Or at least she thought she had. In result, she now had egg and graffiti on her shop window. Which was an amazement in itself. How had they had time to do this? Kel had left the shop around midnight, she had been trying out a new recipe, and had stayed late to not only make sure that the shop was prepped for her five am arrival, but also that the recipe was perfected to her standards. Yes, it was evident that Kel was a workaholic. So for the perps to have done this in a four hour period, they must have had been watching, or waiting for her to leave. Looking at the spoiled eggs on her window Kel frowned. It was such a waste. Why didn’t they just bring the eggs in for her to use and give them sweet treats? Kel didn’t really understand who would do something like this, and frankly, she was shocked. What shocked her more, however, was the words that were painted onto her window. In a dark brooding block the word Freak was scrawled over the front of her window. Goodness it would take her a while to get it off. Shaking her head Kel sighed and unlocked her door, unaware that her shop front had gathered somewhat of a small audience. Better get the hose and the sponges. The sooner she got this cleaned off, the sooner she could open shop. She estimated it would take at least a half hour off of her opening time. The woman smiled slightly as she came back out of the bakery and set down the pail and sponge. Time to get scrubbing. She had been scrubbing the egg mixture off of her window for a couple of minutes as she heard a voice from behind. “Excuse me?” Kel was surprised to hear one of her regulars voices come from behind her as she turned. “Oh, It’s fine.” Kel gave a small smile to the older man. She didn’t want any conflict to arise from this. “Someone was probably just having a bad day.” She turned back to continue to clean off her window. “I will be open in a few minutes, as soon as I get this all cleaned up!” She flashed a smile over her shoulder to the man. “No reason to worry.” Kel really didn’t want this situation to escalate. Daniel blinked. Then, his lips curled up into the slightest smirk as he slowly shook his head. It baffled him that this woman could remain so sweet even in the face of this kind of vandalism. How the hell did she manage it? What was the secret to her ability to maintain that saccharine mentality of hers? Whatever it was had disarmed the grizzled hunter so to speak. He put his anger to the side for the moment, ready to be called upon at a moment’s notice. For now, he guessed that it was time for something productive.
He rolled up his sleeves, took off his gloves, and grabbed an extra brush. Then, he got to scrubbing away the spray paint and egg. It came away easily enough with a bit of elbow grease and it kept his thoughts from straying from towards more… violent distractions. “Hell of a thing to do just cause you’re having a bad day, am I right?” He smelt of the air to see if there was any sign of the one that did this. By this point, it would be faint and muddled by those of the other people mingling in the area, but it would still be there; it was just a matter of finding it and tracking it to the source. Then, someone was going to pay dearly for their little prank. Until then, nothing like a bit of mindless work to give you time to think on how many different ways there were to break a man’s arm.

Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ Kel smiled as she was cleaning. This would all resolve itself. She wasn’t going to make a big deal about this because it wouldn’t help anything. It wasn’t like she had extra security up at her shop. She didn’t see the need for it. After all, it was only just punks, probably some teenagers who didn’t like her sweets, or maybe they just had a bad day. She couldn’t really tell. All she knew was that she would deal with this her way, the silent accepting way. Do not retaliate. That was the thing that was taught. If she didn’t retaliate there would be no reason for the punks to continue. Kel sighed a small sigh before shaking her head. She would have to be a little bit more careful with her Dagos adventures though. If it had actually gotten out, then she would have a huge problem, not only for her, but for all the people she was trying to help. Kel was fairly surprised when her regular started to help her. Oh well, if it kept him from charging off violently, she was game. Plus the sooner that this was off of her storefront, the sooner she could get people their morning breakfast and treats. It was coming off fairly easily, they must not have used high-quality spray paint, but it was really the rotten egg smell that was getting to Kel. Honestly, it was such a waste. Didn’t they understand how many pastries these eggs could produce? She sighed as her regular started to talk to her. “I’m sure they had their reasons, though there are plenty of other ways to get your point across without having to be hurtful." She sighed as she scrubbed on the F in the FREAK. “ I promise I will be getting you your morning muffin in a few minutes.” She smiled over the man that was helping her. “We have a wonderful poppy seed in this morning.” Yes, it was much better to focus on business, rather than the fact she was scrubbing egg off of her store window. -tag: Daniel Caim #words: 348 - notes: Let me know if you need more. - muse: N/A MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

For the second time in a short span of moments, Daniel found himself once again surprised by Kelri. Even here, scraping the remnants of rotten egg and low end spray paint from her shop’s window, she somehow managed to find the better side of things. It was either blissful ignorance or just pure bliss. Either way it amazed him; almost enough to bring him out of the darker corners of his mind. Almost.
And then the promise of poppy seed muffins got to him. How did she know? Oh right, he came here fairly often to get a bite for breakfast. He may have even dropped the fact that he tried to avoid sweets when he could. Apparently, she’d remembered that little slip and taken it to heart because every time he showed his face around here there was a fresh poppy seed something-or-other waiting for him. He’d not even noticed. It just became part of a routine he followed sometimes.
“Thanks,” was the reply. The gathered crowd appeared to be dispersing now; it appeared as though watching two people just cleaning up the aftermath rather than causing a stir and making a bigger deal of things wasn’t very good entertainment. That suited Daniel just fine. There would be less things to smell now, less to clutter up his senses and make it easier to find the ones that he wanted. Unfortunately, it also made the smell of rotting egg much more obvious, which was unpleasant to say the very least; his nose wrinkled at the stench of it as a disgusted groan came from his chest.

Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ Kelri was who she wasn't. She tried not to let the little things get her down and this was little more than an inconvenience for her, albeit a stinky one. Seriously rotten egg smell wade worst. She wrinkled her nose as she scrubbed more egg yolk off of her window. She glanced over giving her customer a smile. She knew that when he came in he liked to avoid sweets, she also knew that a poppy seed muffin was a sweet that didn't necessarily qualify as a sweet to most people. It was an excellent breakfast though. Especially if paired with a medium roast coffee. A perfect breakfast to get you ready and roaring for the day. Kel was more than happy to provide an adequate breakfast for her regular customers. She nodded over at her customer with a smile. “You are more than welcome.” Scratching off a bit off egg she looked over at him again. “ You didn't have to help but I do appreciate it. Hopefully this goes quickly, and we can get out of a sticky situation.” Kel gave a wide grin to the customer and continued to scrub. Comedy normally lightened bad situations right? After another ten-ish minutes of scrubbing Kel stepped back from her shop window and smiled. “Looks good! Nothing a little elbow grease can't fix.” Grinning Kel spun on her heel and went to go open the shop. Flipping on the lights she turned and set the open sign out. Even though it was about a half hour past her normal opening time she was finally open. “Sweet Nothings is now open, come in and get something delicious to start your morning.” -tag: Daniel Caim #words:279 - its a stinky situation... get it? eh. eh. eh. - muse: n/a MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

Each of Kelri’s bright smiles was met with a slightly upturning of Daniel’s lips. Something about her just made him feel fuzzy inside. Maybe it was the warmth of her smile reflecting the light of the sun, or the genuine way she treated him without fear or judgement, or the simple beauty of her face and supple curves of her… no. None of that. Not now at least.
Daniel shook his head free of the lecherous thoughts intruding on his usually level head. Why the hell was he thinking about that type of thing? Had it really been that long? Best not to focus on that for now. That particular line of thinking was bound to end up somewhere it didn’t need to go. Just keep scrubbing, just keep scrubbing, just keep scrubbing, he thought. I’m ignoring the tasty little baker next to me.
Then, she cracked a joke and the spell was broken. He chuckled lightly as his head cleared and the scents and sights of the world came sharply back into focus. The next ten minutes or so flew by more smoothly after that. Eventually, the last of the rude gestures and egg was scrubbed clean. The place was ready for business again.
“Righto!” Daniel said. He walked in just behind Kelri and took a seat near the door so he could make a quick getaway if the need arose. It wasn’t that he felt endangered here, rather it was an old habit of his that had yet to drop fully away.

Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ One of Kelri’s defining features was her ability to smile in the face of aversion. Not that she has faced much aversion in her life, but hey, she’s a hard worker and puts in a lot more effort than most people know. Kelri was always smiling, one way or another, and knew that a good smile as the way to keep everyone appeased. Kelri just kept scrubbing and scrubbing at the egg until it came off of her window. She had then moved into the word in the black spray paint. She shook her head a little because she knew that the paint could have been used in a much better way. Maybe these punks should enroll in an art class. It would get their creative juices flowing and leave her window spray paint free. When the front window was finally clean Kel moved into the shop and opened up. It took her a couple of minutes to get everything set up but as soon as she was ready she stood behind the counter waiting for people to come. There was a pretty steady stream of people, as there normally was, and Kel found that not a lot of people were bothered by her late opening. Which was a good thing, as she was used to her regulars being vocal in their opinions. Kelri nodded as the man came in and sat down at one of the tables. She knew he would approach the counter when he was ready to. Kel was also known to listen, at least when talked to. She waited at the counter for her regular to come order, putting the poppy seed muffin aside for when he was ready to order. She smiled as she sipped her coffee, and stood behind the counter waiting. “Next?” MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

Daniel had been using the time he spent sitting in the corner trying to filter through the odors perfuming the air outside in search of the ones he sought. Just beneath the layers upon layers of smells was where he finally found the oldest scents he could still detect. He suspected that these were the ones that would lead him to whoever was behind the vandalism. That, or he was just smelling some kids that ran by the shop at some point. Maybe both.
He’d also been giving some thoughts as to what he would do to the perpetrators if and when they were found. The darkly creative methods he thought up amused him almost as much as they surprised him. He knew himself well enough to know that he was more than a little bit vindictive, but it still unsettled him how easily thoughts of torture and acts of wanton violence came to him. That made him think that the bloody edges of his old life hunting Magi for bones and slaves were still a bit too keen for his liking; it made it feel like he was still a monster that…
Enough of that. He wasn’t about to taint this place with his checkered past and black thoughts. Besides, he been sitting here long enough already and he was starting to get hungry.
Daniel stood and walked over to the counter as the last customer wandered away with a bag full of sweets. The memory of his depraved musing fled in the face of Kelri and her smile. That radiance of hers banished the shadows slinking around in his head.
“Guess I’ll have the usual,” he said, following up with a smile all his own. "And hey, thanks for letting me help out with that mess. Kept me from running off on some witch hunt." Daniel rubbed the back of his neck guiltily. For all he knew, he'd been ready to go around hunting some poor kid just looking for attention.
"If somethin' like this happens again, feel free to come and grab me. Your brother's should know where to look me up or at least know my number."

Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ Kel was used to most people overlooking her quiet confidence and strength. She wasn’t one to brag about it, and she wasn’t one to note on it, but it was there. She was more than willing to stand up for what she believed in, and the reality was that she believed that how magi were treated was not okay. She needed to be a more discreet in her actions though. That should could do. If it took her being quiet in her actions, making small anonymous donations, and even setting up a pickup booth, she would. Kel genuinely wanted to help those who need it. If it was within her means, Kel was going to do the thing that would help the most people. She just had to be quiet about it. Either way, she had a line of customers to take care of. Most were pretty understanding of her late opener, and were more than willing to wait a few minutes to make sure that the pastries were fresh and ready to go. Kel would be more than willing to serve all of her lovely and wonderful customers when she could. She had just finished serving up a usual customer when a new one came in. She made sure the customer had all of the things they wanted and showed them her discount card. At least that was being used well. The customer left her shop happy and fulfilled in their pursuit of sweet nothings for their morning commute. Kel smiled as her usual customer, Mr. Caim, as he approached. Smiling she ringed up the poppyseed muffin at his instance of having the usual. “One poppy seed muffin it is!” She smiled as she put it into the small bag she had prepared. “That will be two dollars and fifty cents.” Kel flipped her hair from her ponytail back and nodded. “No reason for a witch hunt over some stupid kids who probably just wanted attention or to be recognized by their peers.” She smiled as she nodded at Mr. Caim. “I would prefer it if no one got in trouble over this." Kel nodded slowly at the man’s suggestion. “I don’t think it will happen again, but if it does, I will make sure to contact you.” She wasn’t sure how well this man knew her brothers, but if they were hunters they should have some inkling on him. Kel hadn’t really broached the customer’s private life very much, but she was sure to ask about the older man. Her brothers must have some insight. “I will make sure to look you up if it happens again.” -Tag: Daniel Caim #words:439 - notes:Thank you for giving me a little, but more to work with^^ - muse: Drunk Rinny MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

“Heh, I guess you’ve got a point with kids and what not,” Daniel admitted. He pulled out his wallet and fished around for his cash card. “Still, you gotta wonder where their parents are and why they aren’t keepin’ an eye on their kids. I mean, mine aren’t exactly the best example. Mom sort of left me for the wolves when shit hit the fan, and dear ol’ dad wasn’t exactly around for that seeing as he kicked it before then.” He finally found his card and handed it to Kelri for her to charge. The things that he’d heard and personally observed in regards to the woman overwhelmed the natural mistrust that he felt for others. He had faith that she would charge his account honestly. “You’re lucky, you know, having a family like the one you’ve got. Not sure how you put up with having so many siblings though. I’d’ve gone crazy.” That and he might have had someone else to turn to when a nice little debt settled on his shoulders. Earning that kind of money on your own wasn’t the best experience one could ask for; tended to have adverse effects on a child’s personal growth. Not that he was bitter about it or anything. As bad as his blood relations were, his brothers in the Guild did their part in replacing them. “They’re good guys, Fletcher and Jasper; quick learners. Never got to see ‘em in the field, but I had a small hand in their training. I hear some good things.” Kelri Anderson

Kelri nodded with her signature sweet smile.yes, she did have a point and the ruffians would need to have a come to sweetness meeting if they did it again, but right now Kelli wasn't worried about that. Mainly because she didn't want to worry the elder hunter. She was sure that the hunter could track down the kids, but she didn't really want him to, it would only cause more conflict. “Most parents tend not to care about their children. At least unless they are making them look bad.” Kelli gave a dry laugh and a wry smile while shaking her head. She was lucky to have family that cared about her, but she knew deep down her parents only cared about appearances. Kelli gladly took the card that was offered, and charged the man. He was technically still a part of the guild so he got the 20% discount that was normally applied to any hunter.
Handing the card back, once he was charged she printed off a little receipt and handed it with the card. “Ah, yes. I do have a lot of siblings.” Kelri gave a half smile before tilting her head thinking. “They can be aggravating sometimes, but family is just that, family.” It was one of Kelri’s main philosophies. Family was extremely important, and she was willing to do just about anything for them. She grinned and tilted her head. “Other than paying for one year at CAIF, I've provided for myself mostly without my parents money.” Her grandmother was very strict. It wasn't Kelri's money. It was her grandmothers and her parents. That much was a fact. If she had ever wanted to borrow money from her family, she would be in debt for the rest of her life basically. If not in actual debt, but also in family debt. These were two very different things and Kel didn't want to experience either.
Kelri smiled as Daniel chose to compliment her brothers. “They can be a bit of a handful sometimes, and I’m always worried about them, but I’m happy to hear that they are behaving.” If Kelri were being honest here, Jasper was too hell bent on killing magi and ‘proving’ himself to their father, and Fletcher barely spoke to his sister. The two had a... strained relationship. All the same, it was time to put on a smile, and that she did. Better to keep up appearances than have the elder hunter question. “Thank you for teaching them to be sensible and not get killed in the field.” She nodded out of respect for the elder man and handed him the poppy seed muffin. “Is there anything else I can get for you today?”

Daniel smiled. He never understood the whole thing about family obligations and whatnot, and while being what amounted to an orphan had its downsides, there were some positive points as well—one of them being the fact that he wasn’t forced to get along with anyone. Well, that wasn’t entirely true. His first few weeks living among the Hunters way back when amounted to a trying ordeal; even his squad had annoyed him at almost every opportunity. They were still good guys thought and Daniel would miss them sometimes. They’d been the closest thing the family he had. A dysfunctional, harsh, and surly family, but a family none the less. “Nah, I think that’s it,” Daniel said as he gratefully took the proffered treat. “Thanks a bunch, Kelri.” He was about to take a bite when a thunderous and violent sound shook the air and earth in equal measure. The shock nearly caused Daniel to drop his newly bought muffin but his quick reflexes allowed him to just barely save his prize. After his brief little rescue attempt, Daniel’s senses went on full alert. He sniffed the air and caught hints of smoke. Looking outside allowed him to catch sight of a few people pointing into the distance. The Ex-Hunter put two and two together and turned back to Kelri, pointing a finger in her direction. “Keep everyone here and try not to let them leave,” he ordered. “And call the police.” With that, Daniel turned and sprinted through the door. The smell was more apparent in the open air and he could see a pillar of black smoke rising towards the sky. A terrorist attack? He quickly made his way in the direction of the smoke, stuffing huge bites of muffin down his throat as he ran. Kelri Anderson

Sweet talkin' lady, love how you entice. Sugar, with just the right amount of spice
| ◀ | [attr="class","PrettyInPink"] Don’t get Kelri wrong, she loved her family. It was just that sometimes her family was overbearing and stuffy. It was more than worth it to her to at least try to get along with her family. They would be people who were there for her, as long as she ascribed to their beliefs of course. It wouldn’t do to have an opposing opinion. In the words of her father, she was just a child who didn’t know anything. Hence why she so rarely went home.
Kelri smiled, looking over at the hunter. He was lucky that the guild had accepted him as family. Nothing like killing innocent magi to bring a family together. It was something that she and her family did not agree on. Killing was needless and unnecessary. It was only necessary if you couldn't talk someone down, and overall the hunter’s guild was more of a shoot first, ask questions later type of organization. After all, they worshiped the God of the Hunt.
Kelri grinned as she handed over the treat with a smile. “You are most certainly welcome Daniel.” Just as she was handing over the treat the earth shook and a thunderous clap echoed throughout her shop. What in the world? Kelri looked around, making sure that there was no one harmed in her shop. Damn it. Needless violence was apparently the reason someone decided to bomb the city. Kelri couldn’t blame a magi if it was a magi, but goodness, she wished the violence would be lessened. Kelri nodded towards everyone that made eye contact and smiled reassuringly. “Go.” She would reassure the man that he could go. She could take care of everything here.
Kelri would nod at the retired hunter with a grimace. “Will do. Go keep the city safe.” She would keep all of the people in the store until it would be cleared for the people to leave. It was an interesting experience to say the least, but Kelri knew how to stay calm in those situations. The most important thing was at the end of the day the least amount of people were hurt and everyone was safe. No matter if it was a terrorist attack or not.
