There were few cities in Adamah that glittered in quite the same way that Dagos did. Even in the mid-afternoon, you could tell the city was waiting for the night, waiting for the moment when it could finally awake and blaze forth. It was tempting to compare it to a star, but there were plenty of places that reflected the stars in the night sky - rather, Dagos challenged it. It had been a long time since Reine had visited Ethea last. It was a country that seemed to constantly be in struggle. A romantic part of him philosophised that the country itself was trying to be reborn into something new, but it was hard to wax poetic in a country that was, admittedly, still rather violent. Even on just arriving a few days ago, there had been people who had treated him with suspicion and at times, verbal abuse. It wasn't anything he hadn't heard before, of course; in fact, sometimes in quieter moments liked to catalogue just how many insults he received about his person just to see when something new came up with. "Mmm. For a country so angry with magi, I can't help but think they'd be more creative with their insults. Fairly sure I've heard 'dirty feathered freak' now about...13 times in the last three days? Conservatively guessing, anyway." In general, Ikigai had been much kinder, even if some fire magi had insisted they be treated a little more special than everyone else. Hell, even that one time he'd worked in Bruniik, at the very least they were honest about the fact they'd happily screw over everyone. Reine shook his head, feeling his feathers bristle along his body. Dwelling on the past wouldn't help anyone. What mattered was here and now. If he was going to stay in Dagos for a while, he was going to need to find work. And while there were plenty of places around that would surely appreciate the work of a skilled bartender, there was one particular place he wanted to try and apply to first. It had been recommended by one of the regular patrons back at Sparklefire, the last bar he'd worked at - a bar called Obsidian. After some words with a few friendly contacts and a few more phone calls, he'd managed to organise a meeting with the owner, one Clarisse Diacha, in regards to his looking for work. Many of his contacts had praised her focus, being able to not just survive but positively thrive in one of the most well-known nightclubs of the city - a few, on the other hand, had warned of her cold and calculating nature. It didn't really bother Reine; he was happy to make drinks and stay as far out of her way as she liked. Or it'd be back to the trawling the streets - even considering he had somewhat of a reputation, work was never guaranteed, especially for a magi. The doors to the building were closed - it seemed unlikely that such a nightclub would be open at this point in time. Still, he had been informed to meet someone in front of the nightclub at this precise time. So he stood, ruffling the feathers along his arm, feeling them bristle against the fabric of the tailored suit that he was wearing. Perhaps he was a tad overdressed for the occasion, but considering the stature of the nightclub, it seemed like it was safer to err on the side of over-professional dress rather than under-professional. --- Tags: Clarisse Diacha Notes: 585 words. This one was an android of some sort from the metallic, inhuman appearance of them. In any case, they stepped up to the well-dressed magi and seemed to look Reine over for a moment. “Reine Lassiter?” They asked.
If given any sort of confirmation, the android would nod and motion for the man to follow. Another worker was at the door- this one a magi- holding it open for the two to re-enter. Once inside, the first worker would start walking off. “This way please.” On their route, Reine would get a good look at the first level where the enormous dance floor was located. A few workers were busily cleaning said floor and wiping off the surrounding tables and booths featured around the center. However it soon went out of view as they went up to level two: the main lounge area.
Much like the first level, workers were busy cleaning off the tables, railings, and essentially everything else in preparation for customers later. Reine was led past the large bar and the pits towards a room in the back labeled “Employees Only.” Once past that, he was taken before a door flanked by two guards. Upon seeing him, one arched a brow towards the android. Who, in response, merely nodded.
“Alright sir, just have to search you first before you go in. it’s just policy.” The one guard said before stepping forward. And unless he got any sort of resistance, he’d carefully pat the man down for weapons of any sort before thinking to let him head inside. once that was well and taken care of (otherwise there’d be a lot of standing around waiting), Reine would be let past the door they flanked.
Inside was a long office with one wall being entirely comprised of an aquarium. It shed the main source of light within the room, though a small lamp on the desk sitting opposite the door illuminated the woman sitting there. As soon as the door clicked shut behind Reine, a blonde head turned away from the computer screen on the desk. Keen green eyes silently took in the magi that had stepped into what was presumably the woman’s office. After a few seconds, she finally spoke.
”Reine Lassiter, I presume." A single hand gestured for him to take one of the seats on the other side of the desk across from her. Meanwhile her gaze went back to what she’d been viewing: some information on the man before her. Reine Lassiter. What the blonde had been able to pull up on such a name spoke fairly well of the individual. He’d clearly had experience and enough contacts to get her attention and a meeting. The Diacha’s didn’t hire just anyone. Although so far there wasn’t anything glaring that spoke ill of the other magi. But a decision was yet to be made.
Once Reine sat, Clarisse would take a moment to finish up her quick reviewing before turning her attention back to the guest in the room. ”From what I’ve seen so far you’ve got a good amount of experience. For someone like you, I’m sure you could easily land a job anywhere else in the city bartending. So I have to ask what makes you want to work in my club out of all the others."

It seemed that Reine had only been waiting outside the door for a minute or two before the doors were opened - evidently he'd been expected after all. "Got to give these people credit for their timeliness." Reine thought to himself. He gave a slight bow to the android that approached him. "Indeed I am, sir." If the android noticed what he said, he didn't seem to respond - instead simply beckoning him to follow. Reine took in a deep breath, a few seconds to compose himself, and then followed after the android. As Reine entered into the bar itself, his looking around even on only the first floor showed him that he hadn't been wrong to apply here. While this bar wasn't the most lavish he'd been in, this felt like one of the most modern bars he'd been in. Taking stock of the area, there was certainly plenty of room to move and dance about - a smile played along Reine's lips, as this seemed like a place that would be full of energy and with any luck not too many people trying to smash each other through the tables or set their drinks on fire. As much as Reine enjoyed working in quieter bars and cafes too, there was something about more energetic workplaces that was...so fuelling. As he followed the worker up to the second floor, the sense of excitement seemed to almost palpitate from the walls. There was very nearly a spirit of fun deep within the lounge. And the bar - even Reine had to admit, few places had a bar as well stocked at this. Even with his experience there were a few that he hadn't expected to see outside of their home town. The rumours he'd heard about Clarisse Diacha may have been true after all...but if he got to work with such excellent liquor, it was something he could turn a blind eye to. There were certainly enough creature comforts that it was no surprise some patrons may well have wanted to live here. In short order Reine was led towards an Employee's only area. "Good afternoon, gentlemen. I presume a search is in order?" The workers didn't respond, and Reine dutifully held up his arms. "Of course. After all, one can't be too careful these days. I should warn my fingers do end in talons, but I do hope you will allow me the boon of not having to remove my hands." The talons had, fortunately, already been filed, so he seemed to pass inspection for now. "I wonder if I'll have to sharpen them again later..." Reine wondered, though that was a problem for the future, and hopefully it wouldn't be necessary...or did he hope that it would? Best to keep that one to himself, at least for a little while. With the approval of the guards, the door was opened and Reine walked into the office. The aquarium looked quite nice, even if Reine couldn't help but notice that he'd actually eaten a few of the fish inside in other countries as delicacies. The lights led towards the woman sitting at the end of the office. Reine bowed towards her as she addressed him. "Indeed, Lady Clarisse, I am Reine Lassiter. It is an honor to make your acquaintance." Indicated to sit across from her, Reine did so, feeling his feathers fidget a little underneath his suit, though his face remained as professional as always, with a smile, small but pleasant. Just from looking at Clarisse, it was easy enough to tell that this was a woman whom did not appreciate tomfoolery. Now of course, that didn't in and of itself mean she was a good boss, but the reputation she'd earned surely wouldn't have been false. As Clarisse mentioned his experience, there was the slight hint of mischief playing in his smile. "Indeed? I'm glad to know that my reputation precedes me - one must take pride in their abilities, as humble as they may be." With that, Reine's smile returned to a polite one. "But as to why it was here I applied for? I have a preference for working at establishments with a lot of people and a lot of energy, and I was recommended this bar quite highly by colleagues and patrons of mine back in Ikigai - few bars are quite as popular as Obsidian, a popularity known even outside of Ethea. That, and I must admit, part of what drew me to work here was what I was told about working under you personally - an entrepreneur of strict and skilled business acumen, whom even in one of the most populated and booming areas in the country has managed to outlast many other challengers. Please accept my apologies for any disrespect, but if I am to work for someone, I would rather work for people who have the strength and capability to keep their business under control. There are times I have worked for those who haven't, and while such circumstances have their own humorous intrigues, it generally makes things far more frustrating.A little bit too much talking perhaps, but Reine couldn't help but be curious to see if she lived up to the reputation that surrounded her. --- Tags: Clarisse Diacha Notes: 873 words.
