Sanity
It's just one side of the coin
"What are we doing at the beach?" The voice was Helena's own, but its tone was clearly Hart in her mind. Hart literally spoke aloud. Helena told him to hold off on it, but it seemed he didn't give a fuck whether she looked absolutely nuts talking to herself.
"Why not? The beach is a perfect place for reflection."
"If by reflection, you mean literally in the water perhaps. But you realize we're going to be picking sand out of places the sun don't shine for weeks, right?"
"We're wearing slacks how bad could it be?"
"Bad."
"Yeah like you have any room to talk Hart. Where did you go again to wake me up?" That quip was met by silence. Helena had said the words in the moment, but she hadn't realized until the words were out of her mouth how bad they sounded. Hart had tried to drown himself, themselves. Helena had had no right to bring it up as something against him in a light conversation.
"I'm sorry brother. I should not have made light of it."
"You're fucking right you shouldn't have. You're a fucking bitch." Helena sighed, closing her eyes and putting a hand on her forehead.
"I guess I deserve that."
"Damn right you do." Well he didn't have to be so damn emphatic.
"I just wish for once we could go where I want to go without you picking and nagging at me. Like it or not, this is my body you're in. Once in awhile I would like say of where it goes."
"Except I'm the one who feeds your ass."
"I buy the food!"
"Yeah and you'd be buying your ass takeout everyday without me. Liam would be sick of seeing pizza boxes by now and would've moved out."
"Hey! I can cook! If I tried!"
"Hot chocolate don't count, dear sister." Helena's eyes narrowed.
"Fine. You win. Shut up." It was something she was still getting used to, openly talking to him like this. Since Magnus had died, she had realized she wasted far too much time worried about what people would think. Now that she knew they were a dual soul, she was more used to talking about Hart and talking to him as well. It was a part of her daily life. Whether he was weird or not, she still enjoyed having some family with her. And Hart was literally stuck with her whether he liked it or not. She thought he felt the same way though, even though he never said so. At realizing Hart really had shut up, she looked at the water, going by in waves. Once in a while, someone passed them on the beach. They really didn't look out of place when they weren't speaking...other than the fact they were in grey slacks. Luckily Helena had worn a plain black t-shirt instead of their usual dress shirt. They still dressed smartly, but it was a more casual look.
"We probably look odd being here and not being set to swim, right?" Well not necessarily she was sure plenty of people didn't swim after all. Hart just snickered inside their head and Hel rolled her eyes.
