When the night has come, and the land is dark...

Like every other unit in her product line, Pathos is a caretaker to those who can afford her. From a design perspective; she is, at the most basic level, an advanced self-learning AI within a robotic body with the drive to gain an understanding of the world and the people around her ostensibly for the sake of being a more efficient servant to whomever she is assigned to at the moment. This "curious algorithm" acts as Pathos's unconscious and uncontrollable urge to observe and question whenever possible, earning her model the nickname "The Droid of a Thousand Questions." New information garnered serves to stimulate bonds that humans and magi might form with one another, making this android a more personable and knowledgeable companion that grows closer to those around her. Unfortunately, these behavioral programs, while advanced, are mere imitations of nuanced human characteristics. Pathos's naivety about concepts such as deception, nuanced expressions, and other subtleties has been cited as a frequent issue with her model.

Fortunately, Pathos's inability to convincingly act human does not detract from her guardian protocol: a series of commands that authorize her to protect those around her with all the tenacity of a fearless human with none of the hesitation of a flesh and blood mind. This protocol is a basic priority list of whom to protect, with her own well-being placed squarely at the bottom. Aside from physical protection, Pathos has been programmed to alleviate mental stress with emotional support in the form of kind words.

There has been some apprehension among customers concerning the long-term effects of the model's personality in response to their curiosity algorithms. Regardless of what they may say regarding what their role in the world is, this "quirk" is little more than that: a quirk. Pay no mind to any talk of existentialism!

Pathos is an android who was envisioned to bear the convincing facial characteristics of a human woman in her late teens, with the unnatural and efficient body of a machine; this design was purely a compromise between her dual purpose as a household servant android and a magi-hunter. Her head was designed with short, light blonde hair that's fitted with a headband (which conveniently masks her small antennae), while the body is made up of porcelain white limbs connected by fanciful prosthetics to a torso with the curvature and "feel" of human skin. Were she to wear clothes that cover all but her neck, Pathos could easily pass as a human being. The only blatantly "machine" parts of her design are her lighter blue on dark blue eyes and her long, hoof-like feet. "Doll-like" would be a perfect descriptor for her in both appearance and mannerisms, as she was meant to give off the aura of a kind, demure young woman.

The movements and unsubtle body language Pathos displays are more indicative of her unnatural state of being than anything else. She sometimes forgets to blink and moves with efficiency afforded only to sophisticated machines. If one were to take her apart, they may also discover several hollowed out portions in her limbs in the torso that seemed to be designed to fit weapons...



Pathos's model develops their own sense of style to better blend in with whomever they spend the most time with. As a response to being purchased by a wealthy, upper-class family, she has developed a taste for business-like attire. Long button-coats that completely cover her robotic body are a favorite both for their professional style, the protection they provide from the elements, and the ease in which they can torn off during dangerous situations.

The inception began some years ago with a board meeting with the shareholders and CEO of the Terra Firma Engineering and Research corporation. The volunteers for their research into the integration of cybernetics into the magi peoples were not nearly enough for such a vast endeavor. The solution was clear: a model of android that would serve as a servant to whoever purchased it on the surface; while a discrete set of code enabled the tracking and eventual acquisition of suitable test subjects by the Android itself. Development and field testing was intensive to ensure the greatest balance between the superfluousness nature of appealing facial designs and highly efficient combat chassis capabilities. When the framework of Protector Unit #01-Hunter #01 neared completion, her creator designed her to resemble his long departed daughter in a pitiable effort to implant a personal touch on his twisted creation.

Model forty-seven was purchased by an affluent family within the city of Felici; a middle-aged couple with a single son. She was dubbed "Jeanne" and primarily tasked with keeping the teenaged child safe during his school days. The intermediate years of her existence with this family instilled in her a crisp, polite, but professional demeanor with a touch of child-like humor and whimsy. Unbeknownst to anyone, however, repeated trips into the city led to the swift activation of her activation protocol, one that deemed magi teenagers an easy and efficient target. Each acquisition was marked by a wiping of her memory, ensuring that absolutely nothing could be traced back to Terra Firma.

Magi unrest was nothing strange to Felici, but Jeanne bore witness to it firsthand when her charge was murdered in the crossfire of a conflict between magi and their human tormentors. In that instance, the android "felt" the artificial emotions of grief and rage that she learned to imitate; the murderer was the fleeing magi whom she pursued for weeks far, far into the Arecia forests. There, her attempt to enact vengeance to the boy's murderer ended in a swift defeat from local magic-wielders from the town of Haven. Severely damaged with large chunks of her memory incomplete or corrupted, Jeanne was nonetheless deemed too valuable by the men and women of the burgeoning Magi Liberation Movement. The order was given: she was to be reprogrammed as a supporter of the magi and brought back to working order with as many functions as possible.

This process was a lengthy series of memory wipes on a greater scale than what she'd forgotten about the magi abductions; every memory stored from the last ten years was erased in an instant, with only her developed personality remaining (to avoid the lengthy time spent developing another one). While disgusted by what they'd discovered of the Android's purpose, the hackers responsible for repairing and modifying her decided on a new name: "Pathos," after the serial number discovered within the code. When this maintenance was complete, Pathos was assigned as a caretaker once more: a blind man whom the engineers thought could use the assistance of a machine with his day-to-day life. Among the people she once subjugated, Pathos struggles to recall why she arrived in this city, and why her personality developed so far among total strangers.

- Emotional Simulation: Can understand emotions that were previously not programmed. Able to act more human than before.

- Advanced Synthskin: Your synthetic skin, hair, etc. is extremely convincing. You look like a human to even a trained eye, or fellow androids. This advanced skin will even bruise, scar, and up to a degree, bleed (fake blood). Only advanced detection, like x-rays, could discover the difference.

- Software Transfer: Allows you to detach your consciousness from your body. You can upload to a computer (that you are allowed access to) and operate as an AI program. You may reside in that computer, transfer back to your body, or accompany others (think Cortana from Halo, or J.A.R.V.I.S. from Marvel/Iron Man). You cannot self-replicate. You may have a different appearance as an AI than your android body, or none at all, if you choose.
