| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] Why in the world did he have to get sent out way out here to the boonies of Camlorn? Sure, it wasn’t actually the boonies but it sure as hell was no Felici. He would much rather be at home, chillin’ on the sofa and enjoying some popcorn with his feet in the air. But no, the Guild believed it would be a good thing to put River on more active hunts. But really, he didn’t want to be here in the wonderful world of nature known as Arecia Woods. He was supposed to keep his eyes open for any suspicious individuals or magi in the Camlorn area. So far, he has only came across a few people working in a market and trying to fish in peace. Really, there wasn’t anything here in area expect for one small magi that decided to take one look at River and run for the hills. Great, that meant he was afraid of him and probably knew what he was---which meant they might be guilt of some deed. [break][break] Which of course, the chase ended him up in the woods with Arecia sniffing around to try and locate the now missing magi. Damn thing was probably an earth type and thus would now be a loss cause to try and locate in an area that was well, nature. The bastard probably hopped into a tree, went underground, or somehow blended in with their surroundings. With a shake of his head he stood in a small clearing to take in the sight before him. Trees. Lots and lots and lots of trees. Lots of dirt, smelly plants, and a shit ton of blood sucking insects. Ugh, it was hot too. [break][break] Speaking of said annoying insects he casually slapped a few nits away before traveling down a worn path of grass. It was possibly a deer trail or that of a run away pee-in-your-pants magi. With a few whistles, Aries was running down the trail stopping every so often to smell the air and then the ground. The beast was well into his work until a certain scents caught his nose. Almost instantly, the large dog’s ears perked up on top of his head almost as if someone slapped him upside the head. Aries looked to his right and scampered forward with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. The small nub of his tail wagged back and forth excitedly before he dashed off. [break][break] That wasn’t the reaction he was going for while hunting. He was expecting his beast to be more on the I’m-going-to-rip-your-feet-off mindset. He stood there with the most confused look before following after his beast. He did his best to try and get the damn creature to stop running off and being a happy little butterfly but that wasn’t going so well. Eventually, River just put his hands in the air, spun on his heels and sat down on a stump. Freakin’ dog. What on earth was he doing? Did he smell a rabbit or something? Annoyed, he sat there with a sai in his hands, spinning it until Aries finally returned to him to set right in front. [break][break] The two shared a long staring contest before he finally gave the dog a what the hell look. Aries in returned whined with a small butt wiggle. River had no idea what that even meant and snapped his fingers at the beast and pointed back to the direction that had been originally traveling. It seemed Aries took the hint and the two of them would start back that path with Aries taking the lead as usual. Curiously, River stopped for a moment to glance over his shoulder almost certain that maybe someone could be behind him. The moment he stopped Aries turned back around and headed back down the path with River groaning ever so loudly. Aries had just jetted past him and vanished down the path and of course he couldn’t scream at the dog. So what did he do? He screamed with his hands, slammed his sai back into its sheath and followed after Aries, annoyed as all get out. What the hell could be more interesting then tracking a stupid earth magi that probably pee’d their pants? Shouldn’t they be easy to find? [break][break][break]OOC NOTES - Ugh, No Aries! Its time to work!

| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Caroline was in full-on hunting mode. She knew they liked to prowl the paths near Camlorn, where refugees took the train and then tried to hoof it to Haven. Try and catch them before they could split off and become harder to track. Well, that just meant easy target practice for Caroline. With her cloak-poncho on and her hood up to shadow her features, she took careful steps through Arecia, rifle extended and ready to pop heads. It had been quiet so far; if it was a sign that the hunters were wary about the area, all the better for the magi; Caroline could put her attention on other paths, though she saw over the months that the hunting grounds were shifting away from her outdated intel. She paused when she heard a crashing through the brush. Definitely an animal, though it was pretty rare that any ran towards her at such speed; usually wild ones kept a careful distance (barring Taavi) and familiars paid her no mind since she wasn’t a magi. She crouched down and waited for it to get near the clearing in the brush. And when she saw the dog, she froze. Aries. He looked happy as ever. And of course he would recognize Caroline’s scent (and leave River in the dust). She held out her hand and made a “shh!” noise as he approached, wagging that tail. “Go on, boy,” she whispered urgently. “Go, go back to River.” Stubborn as ever, he refused to move before at least getting some head scratches from Caroline. “Good boy, now go, get going!” With that, Aries was off (reluctantly?) and Caroline took a breath. It was inevitable that she’d find old companions, but actually knowing River was nearby was… complicated. She didn’t hate the man. In fact, she felt sorry for him, cursed under Kalidas and working in a job he really shouldn’t have been in. He wasn’t the type to kill loosely. After some deliberation, Caroline stalked expertly towards the direction Aries ran off, tuning her hearing to cancel out ambient sounds to make it easier to follow. Sure enough, with some advanced vision she was able to find River. Did he get a haircut? Was he getting less lazy in her absence? Caroline made sure her visage was well and covered, and stuck to low cover. Too bad Aries decided to come back for another visit. This time, the dog nearly bowled her over with its excitement, sniffing around her and eager to receive more overdue petting. Shit, shit this was bad; if River knew she was still in Ethea, the guild might confirm it and then things would get much harder for her. With Aries still stuck by her legs, Caroline stood and turned her head to the side when she heard River approaching, making sure the hood covered the side of her face from him. She held her rifle still, but no longer in a ready-to-fire position. Hopefully he would just… take Aries and go. That would be the best case scenario. |

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] It was most unusual for Aries to act like an untrained pup. He was normally very obedient, listened, and did his job extremely well once the effort was actually put into the hunt. Still, there were small occasions when the familiar was as blissful as a young little thing. This usually happened when they were on vacation, feeding time, and around those that the dog actually like. There wasn’t many of those people but there was a very distinct handful of them that could be counted all on one hand. River took his time following after the mutt with a whistle here and there to bring Aries back. Of course, Aries didn’t listen to him. Oh no, he was far too busy being all up in Caroline’s business. [break][break] Aries butt wiggled as hard as it possibly could as he moved around Caroline with excitement. The poor woman would be attacked with hurried licks randomly across her body as a proper greeting and if he managed to get her face from jumping then that would be a bonus. For a moment, he would pull back to prance and then return to his greetings in hopes of a good cuddle or a petting. His attention would be derived only for a moment at the sounds of the whistles. His head jerked to the side and then look back towards Caroline. Barking a few times in joy he returned to Caroline with vaguer. [break][break] River groaned mentally, Aries still hadn’t returned to him but at least he offered a location by barking. Throwing his hands up in the air he continued onwards. Each carefully made step brought him closer to the two of them until he finally came into view between two trees. River stopped his course, what was Aries doing? The look of confusion was rather profound as he couldn’t quite understand why his familiar was all up in a cloaked persons business. He wasn’t growling or biting the person at all so he knew for a fact this was no magi. But, again, Aries only offered affection to those that he knew and liked. He knew of no one stationed in this area. Oliver was in the hospital still being a drugged-up-foreign-soap-opera-loving-fool. The other hunters he knew where off in Felici and Dagos still. [break][break] One man did run through his head but he highly doubted she would be in Ethea still. She was a smart woman and was more then likely across the ocean doing whatever it is she wanted to do. Whistling again, Aries did nothing in response it wasn’t until River whistled sharply did he finally stop to look at him. Excitedly, Aries put one paw on Caroline in a manner that went something like, “Look, look at who I found! I found her! Can we keep her? She even petted me! Look! Look!” Excitedly, he would promptly go in and out from between Caroline’s legs and then around. [break][break] What on earth has gotten into him? With a shake of his head he looked towards the woman and offered her a small smile. With one hand he drew a circle over his chest for the sign of “sorry”. As usual, he assumed the person wouldn’t know sign. Approaching her, he was finally able to get Aries to sit but he kept pawing at the individual like a cat. Sighing, River reached out and tapped Aries on the nose to try and make him behave. Would it work today? Doubtful but it was worth the shot. [break][break] Still assuming this individual did not know sign he merely would point at her and then make the okay sign to try and ask a question, if she was all right or not. Aries was a pretty big dog after all. [break][break][break]OOC NOTES - Aries has missed you hardcore and is a jerk.

Notes Yeah there's no way that hood is staying up around an excited dog.
| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Well, shit, he was approaching. No weapons drawn, either. For gods’ sakes River, she had a gun in her hand; haven’t you learned a damn thing? Aries, on the other hand, was doing laps like a puppy; naturally, this would be the one day he wasn’t sleeping in the sun. This was quite the predicament. She slung the rifle over her back and knelt down in front of Aries, allowing him to get all up in her business, in hopes that he would settle down after some petting and letting him lick himself tired. Without looking too directly at River by keeping her focus on Aries, she watched for his signing. Sure enough, there was the apology, followed by the concern. Gods, River, you are too trusting of people with guns. She continued to give Aries the petting he wanted. It seemed, fortunately, that River didn’t recognize her. That was a small relief. She flashed him a thumb’s-up to let him know she was fine; talking might give herself away. But she didn’t have to worry about that, because Aries saw to that part. With her one hand away from the dog, and excitement still making him do circles, she couldn’t guard against his whapping tail nor face licks. Somewhere between the two, he caught a good chunk of her purple hair, which was pulled from its position tucked inside hood to the outside; it would have been impossible to miss. She scrambled to her feet and desperately tried to shove it back inside, but in doing so, she accidentally pushed her hood back a bit too far, removing the cloth and shadow that obscured it up until this point. There was no way he didn’t catch sight of most of her face now. With her back to a tree, she stared wide-eyed at River. “Shit,” she said. She weighed her options quickly; her next action would be entirely dependent on River’s. |

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] A sigh escaped the hunter while staring at the cloaked woman. He had noticed she had a weapon drawn but he wasn’t overly concerned about it. If Aries had acted in a much different manner then young man would of armed himself for a defense though his weapons would do very little against a gun. His attention went from her to his familiar that was acting like a new born puppy. His brow slowly arched but he said nothing about it. Apparently, Aries liked something about this woman very, very much. [break][break] Putting his hands on his hips the moment her gun was slung over her shoulder he tilted his head down to take a look to see if he could see her face. That was a no go and so the mystery would remain on to why his dog was acting this way. Giving a few whistles of command did nothing and for a moment River wondered if he would have to grab him by the nap of the neck. Seeing as this might be the best option he took a few steps forward to grab at his familiar. [break][break] The moment his hand took hold of flesh and fur it was too late. The armed woman’s hair spilled out and a moment later her hood would at last fall. He had expected to see some random person he had no knowledge of, just some random individual. But what he saw in front of him was someone he knew very well. Completely bewildered he stood there hunched over holding Aries with one hand. His familiar whined and squirmed in his hold. Dullahan was the last person he ever thought would lurk in a wooded area, armed, cloaked, and well hiding he assumed. It took him a good three seconds to regain his wit. [break][break] Reminding himself that he did not know the reasons of her running off or what she had been through to make her vanish, he held very still. Dullahan wasn’t the type to be alarmed but she sure as hell was the type to shoot now and ask questions later. If she didn’t want to be found she would make sure that no one would know of her presence, including himself. He might not be the best hunter in the world but he was smart enough to realize when he stepped in shit. [break][break] Now was the question of what to say and how to keep her from doing one of two things, A. Running away or B. Probably shooting him. Granted, she hadn’t pulled the gun from her shoulder so that meant he was in the safe zone for a moment. Then again, she had the ability to rush him pretty easily. However, she made no motion to do that either at the moment. Out of pure habit his feet switched in a position that would allow him to brace for an impact if one was to come. His hand on Aries would remain for the time being as his other lingered on his belt before finally lowering to speak. ”I never pictured you the nature type.” A small smile touched his lips, a soft reassuring one that hopefully would convey to her that he would be no threat to her existence. [break][break] Like that mattered though she could make him eat rocks pretty well for the most part. However, he had been training for a good while now. So maybe, he wouldn’t eat rocks so easily……oh dear, what was he supposed to do now? [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

Notes Let's just talk. Don't do anything stupid.
| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Fortunately for River’s continued existence, Caroline was no longer the focused murder-machine she once was; sure she was a machine, and sure she still killed hunters, but that was no longer all there was to her existence. She also had a moment of shock. River. Gods, of all the luck, it had to be him to discover her. Eons could have passed as they stood and considered one another; when River shifted his stance, so did she, ready to fight if need be. But… Should it come to that? At the very least, she could talk with him; if he decided to run or fight, she was confident in her ability to come out on top, as she always had. “Just as surprised to see you off the couch,” she said. What should have been a friendly joke did nothing to melt the tension in the air; as long as they both maintained their stances, it was going to be a tense conversation. Her face remained firmly without joy or humor. “Less surprised to see you so lax with caution. I told you to work on that, or it would kill you one day.” Though whether that day was today was still to be determined. “I hoped to avoid an encounter like this,” she continued. “I suppose we should talk before we decide what to do. Agreed?” She was the first to relax. It wasn’t a huge risk; Aries wasn’t going to attack her, that much was obvious, and if River wanted to fight, she was confident enough that she could react in time. Once she relaxed her stance, she waited for River to do the same. It was painful for him to speak, she knew; she held no animosity for the man, despite his occupation- he wasn’t a racist, and he wasn’t even that interested in doing his job. Plenty of times she questioned if he was in the right line of work, though once he was cursed it was more or less a done deal. But still, he was a hunter. And so far no hunter she encountered left alive. Assuming he went along with it, she switched her conversation to sign language. Be honest with me, she signed. As far as you know, does everyone still believe I am outside of Ethea? |

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] While Aries finally sat beside Caroline with a small whine his master wasn’t really sure what to do about the whole situation. He had been trained to handle a thousand different kinds of situations but he had no idea how to handle coming across a friend who didn’t want to be found. That wasn’t something that was really covered in his training days. It was mostly kill or be killed which clearly was not an option here. I wasn’t about to fight a friend if he could help it. [break][break] He made no move to attack her and wouldn’t unless it was deemed necessary besides she could probably still shove a few rocks into his face. A small sigh escaped the man at her small attempt at a joke that did nothing to melt the tension he felt in the air. In reply, he merely shrugged at her as lightly as possible. She wasn’t wrong. He normally would much prefer to be on the sofa but times had change and so did he. The sofa was no longer an option for him to remain on if he was going to keep a better eye on Oliver. He was going to have to be much more aware of his surroundings. Someone had to keep an eye on the psycho and he figured he was best suited for the job. [break][break] An eye roll would be rewarded for her next statement. Yeah, yeah, he had heard that a lot but with Aries being so chill he saw no reason to be on that kind of alert. He even made a small gesture towards Aries to get that point across. Unless Aries was baring teeth he had no reason to attack. He trusted his familiar far more then any living being, including Oliver. [break][break] With Dully sudden relaxing, River soon followed her but only after making sure she wasn’t about to pull a fast one on him. Once he was certain then he would relax as he usually would when around her before she disappeared. He caught the quick motions of her hands and smirked lightly at her. It was always nice to have another use sign around him. A small and rather amused huff came from him, ”Yeah, everyone thinks you left the country. Oliver, however, I am unsure about. He ain‘t one to talk about stuff like that.” His hands went through the hand motions smoothly all while keep an eye on her just incase. He might be a bit dumb but he wasn’t stupid. ”I assume you want it to stay that way too, don‘t you?” [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS An eye roll, really? He wasn’t taking this seriously at all, was he? It was kind of shocking, really, that he was so calm in the face of potential death, a face thought to have gone away from the country, or perhaps killed. The old officer in her would have been annoyed, but now she could see that his relaxed attitude, as dangerous as it was to his health, allowed him to think before acting. Perhaps he wasn’t a lost cause. Oliver… She took a breath at the mention. He did not like how she left or who she was, and probably still didn’t understand exactly why she left. It was hard to explain. “Oliver knows me too well. I assume he suspects I’m the danger lurking in the woods.” She gave him a dire look as she deliberately signed her next message. “I need it to stay that way, River. I haven’t made my decision yet on how to ensure that.” Kill him, or trust him. Those were her two options at the moment. It wasn’t a decision she needed to make yet, but she needed to make a choice at the end of their conversation. Could she really kill River? At the same time, could she risk her new life? The choice was still unclear. “You seem very calm despite seeing me again,” she continued. “Despite seeing me in Ethea, despite my murder of my father when I left, despite my massive information leak against the hunters, despite my different personality, despite not knowing whether this encounter is going to end in blows… you remain calm. Maybe you did learn something after all.” She regarded him again; even if he didn’t try, he could be hard to read sometimes. “I’m wondering what’s going through your head right now.” |

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] Staring at her long and hard for a good moment he would sigh once again. It seemed that sighing was a traditional trade mark of a man that felt like he dealt with way too much shit. With ninety percent of it not being any of his own. Whatever her deal was with Oliver, it wasn’t his concern. Unless it became a big enough problem that would leak over into his little world. ”Probably.” He signed and left it at that. If she wanted to fix things with Oliver or not was all up to her and her duty alone. He gave her a gentle half hearted shrug. ”Well, I’m not much of a talker.” Dullahan would be safe in the woods for as long as she wanted to remain here. He had no intention of telling Oliver that he had found the runaway woman even though he felt it would be best for him to know, it wasn’t his place to tell. It might come back at him eventually but really, what hasn’t? He was known to have rather rotten luck and then some. [break][break] But now it seemed that part of his bad luck might of rubbed off on Dullahan to a certain degree. Casually, the mute raised a hand to the back of his neck and rubbed it at its base. She was making rather clear points and he supposed his reactions wasn’t what one could consider normal. He took his time on debating his answer that he would eventually give. His options weighed too and fro before eventually he decided he just didn’t give a shit. While the Guild was his home he wasn’t particularly super fond of it. In the halls lurked murderers, psychos, bullies, and well the list could go on. There wasn’t very many true hunters that he could consider normal or kind for that matter. Most just seeked out a reason to do whatever the hell they wanted, including fucking with him in the halls or outside the Guild. Really, his life was always a roll of dice it seemed. [break][break] Huh, in truth, he was pretty positive everyone wondered what went on in the head of a cursed man. Maybe that was why he was always getting into trouble? Just everyone’s morbid curiosity he supposed. ”Dully,” He started with a slow sign in thought, ”I’m just goanna be brutally honest here with you.” His hands paused in thought as he tired to find the best words he could use to describe his thought process. ”In short, frankly, I just don’t give a damn. Given the chance, I would murder my own mother.” He made a shrug and a slight sideways nod as he seemed to think on his words, counting them off in a mental list. ”Eventually, one way or another, there was going to be a leak. Nothing stays secret forever and as much as that Guild is now my family, it could use a good stirr. If you decide to punch my face in, well, you punch it in. “ His hands moved up in a palm up mini shrug before they would move again to express himself. ”All of this is out of my control and thus not for me to be concerned about. The only thing I prefer not happening is waking up to find a large blue bitch hovering above me again.” Shifting his weight from one leg to the next he would end his motions with one more note. ”Personally, I’m just happy to see your not broken in a ditch somewhere and still around." His gaze dropped down towards Aries for only a mere moment to gauge his familiars reactions. | I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Not much of a talker… of course he would reply with that line. She knew that, but still… damn he was close to Oliver, and still part of the guild. Could she really trust him? She stopped him as soon as he said ‘Dully.’ “Stop,” she said, taking on her old officer tone accidentally. “That… That name is dead. I’m going by my birth name now, trying to reclaim … nevermind the reason. Just, call me Caroline.” With that, she let him continue. When he said he would kill his own mother, her eye widened; she never would have expected someone like River to say that. Was that… really how he thought? He was from a family of hunters, wasn’t he? “Tell her to go for a long walk in the woods and I’ll help you with that one,” she said. Again, she was surprised at how calm he was; it was almost like he was relieved to be able to get this all off his chest. In retrospect, she shouldn’t be surprised; he wasn’t exactly at home in the guild, and was often picked on, even by people who weren’t Oliver. Before, she thought it might toughen him up. Now… well, she saw that it did, though it also seemed to weigh him down. She rose an eyebrow. “Didn’t think you’d be happy to know I’m alive,” she confessed. “I wasn’t exactly a sympathetic officer, or a friend of any kind.” She considered his explanation and thought hard about it. A large blue bitch… the goddess who cursed him. She understood now. Maybe he enjoyed his job, maybe not (probably not, was her guess), but it didn’t matter; the goddess more or less enslaved her faithful with curses and blessings. It… well it was almost like her mind implant, wasn’t it? “I guess it was too much to hope for that the leak would put a hold on hunting operations,” she signed. She thought for a moment with a hum. “Yeah, you could say I do. The short of it is that I saw the hunters for what they really are. That, and they took more from me than I could ever express; it’s a revenge quest first- I’m not some high and mighty protector of the innocent now, and I won’t pretend to be. They fucked me up, River; I’m just returning the favor.” In a move to ease the tension, she knelt down, leaning against the tree in a more comfortable position. A relaxed position. River wasn’t going to attack her, not after expressing himself so freely. And the more they spoke, the less she felt like she would attack him, too. “It’s best you don’t tell anyone I’m here,” she said. “It’s only a matter of time before they send teams to bait and trap me. I’d rather not see you with them.” |

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] Seeing Caroline relax caused him to do the same though unlike the purple haired woman he would remain standing. Aries gently stood and trotted over to Caroline to claim her legs as his personal pillow. Lowering his gaze the mute considered her words for a long moment. While it was true he didn’t talk much he also didn’t sign much to others. Hell, he barely made efforts to communicate with people half the time due to it usually being a wasted effort. He was getting a bit better now, speaking to people, but it was still something he just didn’t do very often. He didn’t seem to be overly concerned with the name change but only left a brow at it for half a second. Caroline. Not quite a name he thought fit her but if that is what she wanted to be called then he would oblige to it. [break][break] An awkward sounding chuckle came from the man, ”Well, you are right. You’re not really a friend nor sympathetic in any fashion . But, you did treat me like I was human being instead of a god awful plague. So, I suppose that places you under, “A supporting acquaintance.” “ He signed, pausing every so often to think his thoughts through before finishing his long motion of hand gestures. ”In that aspect, it’s nice to see you alive.” [break][break] As usual, the indifferent man shrugged at her as his eyes rested upon his familiar that was so taken with Caroline. Really, he had no idea why the dog was like that with her but he always seemed to be attached to her in some form. Even when they practiced Aries would stand off to the side and just watch the two of them almost like it amused him. Again, River was considering her response and he didn’t bother to correct her. There was really no point. The guild was a piece of shit a lot of the time and they did fuck people up. He knew that from experience from being within it for so long thanks to family tradition that kept him locked into something he wasn’t totally for at all. While he did dislike magi and blame them for a lot of his problems, he wasn’t one to go and kill them blindly. [break][break] As long as they didn’t stir trouble, attack, or give him any reason to list them as a threat he usually left them alone for the most part. It was just the thick headed ones that start shit that end on up on the wrong end of his sai. ”I ain’t saying crap to anyone. This is your business, not mine, and I see no reason to share anything with anyone about you.” Even though he would love to tell Oliver just to see him brighten up but that might not lead down a very good road. ”Hmm, maybe. But if chance I did happen to be here at least that one would lead you away.” He gestured towards Aries. ”I don’t think he will be a good hunting buddy right then.” Most of the guild wasn’t too fond of him anyways so he really didn’t see the point in not being useful to someone he considered to be a somewhat decent person. Caroline wasn’t a magi either and thus not someone he would go after. [break][break] With a small sigh, River would finally lean back against the nearest tree for comfort. Silence would fall upon the two for a long while. River had nothing more to say for the time being, he just stood there glancing at nature. Taking in the sights and having the great debate of what to even say to her right now. He wasn’t one to give hopeful speeches and she wasn’t the type to receive them. They both fully understood the consequences of their actions and what might happen after their meeting. He had no idea what more to say to her other then asking a simple question. ”So, Caroline, huh? Not a name I pictured for you to have. But then again, Enki isn’t really a name people would associate with me.” His mused. [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She shrugged. “You were competent. I wanted to make sure you survived. It seems most of my lessons took, one way or the other.” Her hand drifted to Aries so she could idly scratch the loyal pup. She was glad it seemed unlikely this encounter would end with a fight; she couldn’t kill a dog, and if she killed River, it would probably ruin the dog’s life. “I hope it doesn’t come to that,” she said grimly. “If they send someone or a team after me… well, you know better than most what I can do. I would rather not have the Bitch give you an ultimatum, so it’s best if you don’t say a word.” She sighed and looked at Aries. So happy, so content… if only people could be at peace with just a nice scratch behind the ears. “I already assume she’ll send him after me. I do not look forward to that encounter.” Him. Oliver. Would that be how they met once more? She looked up at the trees at River’s idle chatter. “It’s my given name,” she signed. “Dullahan was my agent name. I am no longer an agent. It’s nice to go back to it, as unfitting as it is. Perhaps my mother hoped I’d grow up to be a more feminine woman.” She snorted a short laugh. “We see how well that worked out.” There would probably be silence and stillness again after that. She knew River’s name, and yeah, she admitted it would be strange to hear him be called by anything other than his last name. What else was there to talk about? They were never particularly close, though she was never really close to anyone. It wasn’t like two old pals catching up; it was more like trying to small-talk with your former manager, who underwent a massive personality shift after committing both treason and murder. Considering the circumstances, River was taking this entire meeting surprisingly nonchalantly. Was he really that apathetic to such things? “It’s interesting; for a group that calls itself hunters, they’re not very competent at handling being the prey.” Yeah Caroline, that was good. Small talk about murdering his co-workers. That’ll break the mood. |

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] You were competent. [break][break] Well, that was something he didn’t hear very often from anyone including Oliver. Most people considered River to be the biggest, laziest, son of a bitch that can’t do a damn thing right. To be honest, that was a pretty accurate depiction of him up until now. He would offer Caroline a half hearted smiled and a shrug of his shoulders. It was a good chance her lessons brought about his survival thus far. That or it just woke him up enough to not get a knife in the back, who could tell. [break][break] The smile soon faded at the realization that Caroline was making far too many points. A lot of them he didn’t like at all including the one about his Goddess Kalidas. If she even had a inkling of him knowing where Caroline was he would be in for a treat and it would be anything but tasty. He would much rather not play that game with her once again. He all ready lost his wife, his voice, and what little honor he had left. Who knew what she would take from him this time around. ”There isn’t much she could do to me other then finish me off.” His hands stated heavily. Man, this was going to be quite the problem. He really hoped no one would come looking for her but honestly it would probably happen. [break][break] ”You mean, Oliver.” The heaviness he felt grew on him. It was like someone just dropped fifty pounds on his all ready tired shoulders. That was the last thought he needed, Oliver hunting someone that could quite possibly kill his ass or worse, maim him. While the thought should make him thrilled, considering what he had put River through in the past, he couldn’t feel anything but distress. Lately, he seemed to be having this rather large problem with himself when it came to Oliver. It could be he finally grew accustomed to the much older man. Growing used to the pain and simply accepting it to the point he now craved on a daily basis much like some crazy masochist. It really was like Oliver had somehow rewired River’s brain to function on a whole new level he had never expected too. [break][break] He wasn’t sure if he would ever allow the older man to venture off on his own without him now. Especially, since his arm was broken and Caroline would promptly break the other more then likely. Groaning, River rubbed the back of his neck to pull at his shorter locks in slight frustration. ”He wont be doing much of anything for a while.” His hands went back to their tasking of forming a conversation. ”I can keep him off your tail for a bit but just be sure to cover your tracks. You know how he is…” His heart beat in his chest and his discomfort on the subject grew more. Averting his eyes toward Aries as a distraction he was soon thankful for the change of subject. [break][break] ”No, they aren’t used to being hunted. Its quite a reversal…” Awkward. This whole conversation was becoming awkward. They weren’t friends nor really strong comrades. Still, he knew her and a part of him wanted to help her merely because he knew her or was it something else? He was always kinder towards the fairer sex regardless of their race. He would always try to put the female magi’s out quicker without suffering unlike the males. He shoved all thoughts to the side and snapped his fingers at Aries. The beast only raised his head for a moment to stare at River but gave no indication of removing himself from Caroline. ”Just pick your battles. Don’t stand out like a swore thumb.” She knew that all ready. She was smart then him, faster then him, and a better killer then him. Yet, here he was voicing the things she would consider common sense. [break][break] ”I would rather not come out here to find you for the Guild.” His hands dropped once more and this time to rest on his right wrist. Rubbing at the tattoo upon the flesh in a foreign language. He glanced down to it and sighed. ”I can’t go against them or my family again.” But again, he could perhaps reason with Oliver to leave Caroline alone…maybe. [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

Notes I've... stayed too long. Goodbye, River.
| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She sighed. “I know. I don’t want that for you,” she said. Saying the words only affirmed it. River was a hunter, but he wasn’t a bad person. He wasn’t in it for power or glory or racism; he was in it because of his family’s obligation, just like her, except he wasn’t lucky enough to have a way out yet. “Just don’t say anything about seeing me here. And if they want to send you back, do what you can to avoid it. Get sick. Get injured. Don’t come back looking for me, River; I’m not going to sacrifice what I have for anyone back in the guild.” She paused for a long moment before vaguely nodding. “Yeah,” she confirmed. She then shook her head at his follow up. “I’m careful enough, but it only puts off the inevitable. If he knows or suspects I’m out here, or if he’s sent to find me, he will track me down. Don’t bother trying to cover for me. I don’t like it, but I can’t ignore it; we’ll meet again. I just hope it can end without one of us dying.” Unlikely. Kalidas’ grip on Her hunters was absolute. If She directs them Herself… well, Caroline knew first-hand. Either they succeed, or they die. That was all there was to it when the goddess made Her demands. She pet Aries as the silence hung between them. “I’m careful,” she reaffirmed. “They think something’s up, I’m sure, but as long as they don’t have a reason to think it’s me, I’m still good for the time being. When that changes, I’ll figure it out from there.” Slowly, she stood. It was a calm gesture, with no moves to take off, attack, or retrieve her weapons. “I’d rather you not, either. I can’t guarantee anything if you do.” She slipped her hood back up over her head and secured her belongings. She nodded solemnly. “I know. I hope we don’t meet again. Hang low and stay out of it; I can handle anything else when the time comes. Don’t stick your neck out for me.” With a pause, she added: "Stay safe out there." She gave Aries one last round of pets, a small head-to-head nuzzle, and shortly after, she took off back into the woods, a heavy weight now hanging over her head. |
