Note: this takes place 15 years ago when Dehlia was 9I'm just out to find the better part of me She had raced with Ryan through the trees but she had lost. She hated not having a tail! It gave him an unfair advantage in their races. A monkey tail was awesome! She'd pouted a little bit, especially when her brother had teased her about being too slow to catch him.
She maaay have hit him on the top of his head for saying that. Her dad had seen her and scolded her. Still WORTH IT. She hadn't hit him hard anyways. Besides, he'd tripped her with his monkey tail the day before on purpose and he'd gotten away with it.
As far as she was concerned they were even now. Anyways, she had said she was bored while in their house in the woods. Her mum had just told her that if she was that bored she could go weed the garden. That was NOT happening. She'd run out of the door as fast as her little feet could carry her. Unbeknownst to Dehlia, her mother had chuckled at the motion. Something about the energy of kids. Dehlia didn't hear it. She was already well into the Arecia Woods. Her mum said it was a magical place, but Dee hadn't seen anything else except Haven. Both places seemed pretty magical to her, but they were also normal.
She sat under one of the trees folding the leaves on the ground, smiling. Then she took the green parts off and used the stems from a few, twisting them around each other to make a stick figure. It wouldn't stand up though. It was more fun doing something like this than playing with the doll, but she had that too. It was in the front pocket of her light blue denim overalls.
Then her focus changed and she looked at the trees around her. She liked playing with the animals. Heck, she liked playing with Ryan too. The animals were her friends too. She saw a deer a ways away and she smiled. Her daddy had told her that she should wait for animals to come to her instead of trying to be friends with them by going up to them. She'd had a butterfly land on her knee the other day!
It had run away when she'd moved though, which had been a bit disappointing. But her mummy had explained a while ago that animals found her scary. That had made her a little sad, but more determined to make friends and learn about them though. It was getting to be evening. Not time for supper yet though, which was nice. She liked supper, but she didn't necessarily like being inside. Inside meant she had to be polite, and focus on staying still.
Staying still just wasn't in the cards for Dee. | NOTES: Little kid Dehlia. WORDS: 480 |

The forest had a manner of shifting in its mannerisms. One moment everything was average for a mortal's understanding of the scenery. A gentle breeze would occasionally send branches dancing. Birds would chirp, woodpeckers would thump their beaks into trunks in search of food. The sporadic appearance of deer, rabbits and squirrels. It would seem an average day. Normal. Peaceful.
But as scenarios did in the Arecia Forest according to lore and myth, the atmosphere seemed to alter. There was a sense of spiritual unseen eyes looking on in curiosity. The branches seemed to slow in their song. Slow and slow. Until the air became still and all ambience turned silent.
Only the beating of wings would be present audibly and soon visibly. If the little girl were to turn she would witness a grand fully matured Great Gray Owl. With deceptive size its 'fluff' (for lack of a better word) would make the nocturnal bird seem larger in size than it actually was. One simple poke or pet in the near future would showcase this fact.
With a smooth glide the great bird would land not but a few feet away from the human child. "Hello." The owl would greet in well spoken Ethean. The voice was masculine and deep. But the tone was kind and soft, as was expected in conversing with a child. "What may I ask are you looking for? Perhaps I can help you."

I'm just out to find the better part of me Dee heard the wingbeats and looked up. Ooh she remembered him, he was nice. She had mentioned the talking owl to her brother Ryan but he had said she was imagining things and left it at that.
"Owl friend!" Dee grinned widely. He was nice. She didn't know whether he was imaginary or not she thought probably she was making it up, but hey he was fun to talk to so she wasn't going to complain. He was a nice owl, and he was asking if she needed help with anything.
"I dunno really. My mum says owls are really wise. That true?" Her violet eyes looked at him curiously.
"She says this forest is magical too and I can see that so I think my mumma is wise too. She seems to know a looooott. But if she says owls are wise you probably know even more, right?" Dehlia was just curious mostly. She liked learning new things, but she didn't particularly have a grasp on what she wanted to learn.
"How are you Mister Owl?" Her mumma had taught her asking that was polite. Being polite to friends was important.
"My brother Ryan doesn't believe me. He says talking owls don't happen. I say if my brain sees a talking owl, they exist." She nodded once for emphasis.
"You're a nice guy mister owl." Her mind wandered a bit and that's when she thought of a question to ask her friend.
"Hey so my brother has a monkey tail. He's reeeeeaaaaallllllyyy good at climbing trees. He always beats me. Do you know why some kids get tails and some don't?" She wiggled her bottom for emphasis on the fact she did not have one herself.
"Like...it's hard for me to win races 'cause he has a tail. And I waaanna win." It wasn't a whine, it was just a bit of a developing competitive streak with her twin brother. | NOTES: Random kiddie questions WORDS: 322 |

Owl friend. Through out all of the God's experiences and time lines there always seemed to be a special favor He held for the names given to Him by the young. They were not taught His name often and they tended to be more terms of endearment rather than just a word to call out when in want of selfish assistance. Owl friend was one such names the God would fluff His feathers to in a pleased demeanor. Yes, that was Him and He would answer to it.
"Ohhh, it is okay to not know what you are looking for." Irilys began, stepping closer with those claws. "As long as you are open to what might find you instead." The deep voice had a power behind it that could deem threatening if a situation demanded it. But here it was soft, kind. Patient. "Not really no." The Great Owl chuckled as He came to stand before the child, gazing up with bright yellow eyes. "Owls are not wiser or more intelligent than most other birds. But you could say I am different in that aspect."
"But I am well. Thank you for asking, little one." The Deity didn't attempt to ask how the child was doing in return. She was on a roll. A precious commodity that He had always enjoyed in the youth. "Thank you. I do try." And just like that the topic shifted once again. How the minds of the small worked was quite enjoyable in small doses. It was when He experienced similar sporadic thought processes in adults with fully matured brains that His enjoyment dulled to annoyance.
"I do." Irilys answered with a preen of the wing. "I see, hmm .... Here, sit down." The Great Owl would pat the place beside him with a feathered wing. As the little girl would sit a wing of His would shelter the girl's back protectively. Comfortingly. "Everyone is good at some tasks and bad at others. There will be 'things' you are good at that he will be poor at, and vice versa."
"Your brother, Ryan, is just like you. He has two eyes, two ears, one nose, one mouth, ten fingers and ten toes. He just also happens to have a tail." Those yellow eyes would look downwards to the child beside Him. "Never be jealous otherwise known as 'wanting' what he has. You will have plenty of beautiful and impressive traits, 'things', of your own as well."

I'm just out to find the better part of me So owls were no more wise than other birds huh.
"Well I guess my mumma COULD be wrong. Just this once. After all, you actually are an owl and so you'd probably know better I guess." She grinned. She heard her owl friend talk about how she didn't have to know what she was looking for, only needed to be open to something finding her. Dehlia cocked her head slightly to the side.
"My dad says that trouble finds me. Is that what you mean?" Her dad said it was a talent of hers.
"I mean I'd be open to pretty much anything finding me as long as it was interesting. And not mean. Someone like you would be okay but I've heard there's some nasty things and people." They were the reason her parents always gave when Ryan wasn't allowed to go anywhere except the woods and Haven.
She saw the owl pat the spot next to him and Dehlia sat down with a wide smile. He was fun to talk to. She took in the words about her brother and nodded.
"Well...I guess you're right. Still, I wish I was faster. I just want to beat him once." She laughed.
"If I do that, then he'll stop making fun of how slow I am!" It was a conclusion she'd come to on her own and she was honestly sort of proud of it.
"And I guess thank you. Maybe I'll have some cool things happening in my future. I don't know. It isn't like anyone can see the future." She shrugged.
"I can barely tell what I'm going to do or say ten minutes from now." Her mum said she was 'hyperactive'. Dehlia certainly wasn't going to argue with that logic. | NOTES WORDS: 294 |

"Heh, no." The deity chuckled upon hearing the mortal's quoting of her father. "Though he is right that trouble or 'bad things' can happen if you aren't careful. Some people wish to make the world about them a better place. Others wish to cause harm. Those are the ones you must be wary of, yes?" The child would continue onto her next thought with the rapid speed of a racing horse. "As you get older you will be able to tell them apart easier, I assure you."
The Owl would pull the little girl closer to Himself. Surely the feathers would be plush and soft for any possible thunking of the head. "Ohhh, I doubt your brother will stop picking on you entirely even if you were the fastest person on the planet." Extending His other grand wing, the God would continue in His thoughts. "As you go through life there always be at least one person who pokes fun at your expense or is deliberately cruel towards you."
The Owl would turn His bright yellow eyes back down to address the child. "I suggest you learn to have that not bother you as much. Know that you are who you are and be happy with that. Content. Do not allow someone's mere words effect you in thinking less than yourself. For even when the times come where such people may have a point you can still be proud of yourself for recognizing any amount of constructive criticism and apply it to yourself."
"It isn't like anyone can see the future."
My, how delightful children were. As well as a bird can with a beak Irilys would smile. The child would perhaps be able to tell through the rearranging of the feathers. "Would you like to?" Irilys asked with a soft voice. "Would you like to be able to see the future?"

I'm just out to find the better part of me "Well whatever the other people do, I'm gonna plan on doing something I want to do. Bad things aren't fun for me right?" Dehlia seemed to beam at the sentence. She was quite proud of figuring out all by herself that she wanted to do good things.
"I just want to know stuff. Bad things aren't really good things to know." Hurting people wasn't fun. It made them cry, and then she'd feel like crying and it just wasn't NICE. Her parents had taught her to be kind and she planned on following through because her parents were smart. She felt the owl pull her to him and the little girl smiled. She heard the owl talk about how her brother would probably tease her regardless and she gave a small shrug.
"I guess you're probably right." Boys were weird. She'd known that for a while. Ryan especially seemed odd. Then again, he was really the only boy her own age she'd met yet. She enjoyed the feeling of the feathers.
"You're soft, Mister Owl." Animals were generally soft, but this felt like a very welcoming presence. Even as young as she was Dehlia could tell. He was okay to be around. It was an understanding feeling she got from him it seemed.
The owl talked to her about how someone's words should never make her feel less about herself. Confidence. Taking criticism and making yourself better. Her mum had explained a bit about that. She thought it sounded like a good idea. A good way to learn. She looked at the owl and he seemed to almost smile when she spoke about the future. Her dad had told her to stop applying human emotions to animals, something about person effecasion. She had no idea what that meant, but Dehlia thought it didn't sound like very much fun. Animals had emotions. There was no telling whether some of them showed them in ways humans would be able to tell, right? She heard the question about whether she wanted to see the future or not. Dehlia scratched her chin a little.
"I dunno I think it'd be sort of cool. Like actually being able to tell what was going to happen. Being able to tell something was going to happen without having to plan it. Like grownups can say 'I'm having dinner with this person at five' and then it comes true. But I think that's different than actual future." She made a face, sticking her tongue out at the thought.
"I think that's cheating, telling the future like that. And cheating isn't good. It's a bad thing, and not very fun." | NOTES WORDS: 444 |

"I wouldn't say that." Irilys would reply to the little girl's thoughts. "Staying ignorant, in other words 'choosing to not learn about something', I find to be bad in itself." The simpler vocabulary came naturally to the God. Four syllable words were left to the adults, those with fully matured brains. This was a child. If good and bad were words that made concepts easier for her to understand the Deity had no problem utilizing them. It was not humbling for Him in any measure. This was not beneath Him to do as a God.
The Great Owl would fluff His feathers momentarily before continuing. "If you do not know about 'bad things' then you cannot help stop them from happening. Though," The bird's tone would grow fonder, near fatherly. "At your age I would recommend mostly learning about 'good things'. There will be plenty of time as an adult to learn about 'bad things'." The compliment that came next would be met with an affectionate tilt of the head. "Why, thank you. I enjoy being soft. It pleases Me you enjoy it as well."
As for the main reason why time was paused and the Great Owl was speaking with a mortal, that moment would come soon enough. Seeing into the future could be cool, huh? "I think it's 'cool'." Irilys would nod His head in agreement with the opinion. "Correct. That's called making plans. This would be seeing 'things' in your mind before they actually happen." The Deity would wait patiently as the idea would settle into understanding. Mortals tended to need a bit of time to fully allow matters to register and that was fine by Him. For if anyone had enough time to wait it was surely Irilys.
Upon hearing another positive affirmation that Dehlia would be interested in the ability the God move to better face the girl straight on. "Then I will grant you this. It will start off as small quick images at first. Just so you get used to it. And as you get older you will learn how to make them longer and control when they happen. But for now we will start with this, hm?" Pulling the girl gently forward with a motion of one powerful wing Irilys' eyes would begin to glow lightly. It was a calming hue, not one that was often translated as intimidating or scary, even with children. A smooth soft motion later and the God's forehead would be resting against the girl's. "Here you go, Dehlia the human. I gift this to you."

[googlefont="Marvel|Bubbler One"][nospaces] A Hurricane on the Rooftops @Irilys | 384 | The kid's raised well after all Dehlia heard the owl say that choosing not to learn something was perhaps bad in itself and shifted her lips to one side of her face while she thought harder about the topic. She guessed that was probably true. Then he added that if she didn't know about the bad things it was harder to prevent them and Dee nodded in agreement at that. Mr Owl had a point there. And then he seemed to contradict himself by telling her that she should probably stick to learning about good things at her age. [break][break] "So my mumma was sort of right huh." Sort of. That was good. She didn't want to disagree with her mum, or Mr Owl. They were both nice after all. She liked them both. She heard the owl say he was pleased he was soft and Dehlia's face lit up. Mr Owl liked the compliment. He was really nice. To talk to and otherwise. She heard him agree that it was cool. That it wasn't like 'making plans' or scheduling. That she'd actually be able to see bits of the future. Dehlia thought that sounded pretty awesome. Wait until Ryan heard that she could predict parts of the future. He'd eat his words. Of course, that wasn't the only reason for her wanting to be able to. It did really seem cool. Being able to tell something that was going to happen without scheduling? That sounded pretty sweet. Mr Owl then faced her straight on and a calming glow came from his wing after he explained how the power would work. He said he'd gifted it to her and she had the brightest little grin on her face, violet eyes shining with enthusiasm and eagerness. Then she remembered what her mumma and dad had taught her. [break][break] "Thank you Mr Owl." She smiled and bowed her head slightly in a sort of nod. It was a sign of respect for someone who had clearly given her a gift. Her parents had taught the little one well after all. [break][break] "You're really nice. It's kinda cool to talk to you and you talk back. Sometimes I imagine the animals talk to me, but it's not like talking to you." She had a wide smiled aimed at the owl who was probably her favourite friend.

"You are very welcome, Dehlia the Human." Irilys would respond with a pleased tone at the bow. Simply listening to the being's words one could tell He was smiling. "When you first experience seeing the future, it will be different for you." The Great Grey Owl would place a protective wing upon the girl's shoulder. "But that does not mean it's scary. It's not a bad 'thing'. It's exciting to discover new 'things', yes?" A single ginger motion would move a stray hair of the girl's aside so it was no longer obstructing her facial features. "It is a blessing, not a curse. If you ever see something that worries you I want you to remember that."
A satisfied fluffing of the feathers would commence at the compliment. "It pleases me that you think I am nice and cool. I think the same of you, little one." Next the wing would lightly tussle the girl's hair playfully. A tilt of the head would commence as a kind chuckle left His beak. "Oh, yes. Most animals do not speak your language. They speak their own languages. You know how dogs bark and cats meow? Mhm, just like that. That is how they speak to each other sometimes."
After listening to the child's thoughts on the matter the Great Owl would nod patiently. "I like the name you came up for Me. Mr Owl. I think it fits." The grin would be recognizabe through the adjustment of facial feathers. "I also go by another name too though. If you something ever frightens you through your new ability I want you to say my name, okay? It shouldn't be scary for you so I want to be there if it ever is. So we're going to practice saying my name so you can speak it if you ever need to."
"Irilys." The God would say, those eyes of His flashing with a multitude of hues at the mention of it. "If you say it correctly My eyes will put on a little show for you. So why don't you try it. Iri-lys."

[googlefont="Marvel|Bubbler One"][nospaces] A Hurricane on the Rooftops Irilys | 416 | and that's a wrap for the adorableness Dehlia nodded on hearing the owl say she was very welcome and she grinned. He spoke about how seeing the future for the first time would be different and she nodded. [break][break] "Well it's seeing the future. That is pretty different." Cool though. She heard him give her some comforting words about how that it wasn't meant to be a curse, but a blessing. [break][break] "You're nice. Of course it wouldn't be a curse. Curses are by people who are mean. You're not mean, you're kind." Dehlia might have been a little kid, but that didn't mean she didn't have very good intuition. She could tell who was a good person and who wasn't. The very same sentiments applied to owls, she thought. He was apparently pleased she thought he was nice and cool. He seemed to see it as a compliment which was good because that's exactly what Dee had meant it as. She was honest to a fault sometimes, but that just meant nice people knew it when they talked to her, didn't it? Mr Owl explained that other animals had their own languages and that was why they couldn't talk to her. She nodded slowly. [break][break] "That makes sense. My dad said that too sort of. But it makes more sense now too." She did wonder if there was a way to learn to speak to animals. That would be cool too. Maybe she would figure it out when she was a grown-up. Grown-ups could do a lot of things kids couldn't, she knew that much. She heard him speak about how he had another name she could use if she was ever frightened by something she saw. As he told her he wanted to help if something scary ever came up, Dehlia was reminded of the attitude her parents had around her. Protective. It was a warm feeling now, just like it always was. She nodded. [break][break] "Iri-lyes. No that isn't right. Irilis. Irilys. There. I got it." She grinned, her violet eyes shining with the excitement. And she could see his eyes react to his name being said and she gave a little bout of clapping with a giant grin on her face. [break][break] "Pretty!" That's when she heard the distant call of her name. Dehlia. Dee. Dehlia. [break][break] "Oh that's my mumma. I guess it's suppertime. It was fun talking to you Mr Owl." She smiled and gave his wing a little hug before standing up and running back to her little house in Arecia Woods.
