Blessed is Arithelia, Mother of Magi. Blessed is the Inner Flame, eternally bright and warm as the sun. Blessed is the Tranquil Sea, ever formless and shifting. Blessed is the Solid Earth, firm and unbroken. Blessed is the Mending Hand, gentle and generous. -Jason Reed
So, she open to riding on my shoulders for the fun of it, then, Jason thought. Very well. “I could very likely carry ten of you were I to put my mind to it. Dropping you will not be an issue.” Jason waited for Cadence to hug the disguised goddess with that same tirelessly excited energy that seemed to infect any action that she took. Then, as the small bird child took to the air on some mission he scarcely heard, he lifted Ari by her hips up and over his head and settled her onto his shoulders, standing still long enough for the goddess to make herself comfortable. His grip eventually moved to Ari’s knees so that he could hold her more securely in place.
Jason craned his neck as much as the payload on his shoulders would allow and looked up at his passenger. “Comfortable?” Upon receiving confirmation that the goddess was content with how she sat, Jason would briefly turn his attention back upon Drew before a familiar voice attracted his attention. He looked around the large man just enough to catch sight of Lucya. His lips twitched upwards into the faintest hints of a smile. He turned back to Drew and gave slight inclination of his head by way of goodbye before stepping around the man to greet his friend.
“I’m glad to see you could make it, my friend,” Jason said, taking time to appreciate Lucya’s chosen attire. “You’re a vision tonight. Ari this is an old friend, Lucya.” He rolled his shoulder gently to indicate the fallen goddess. “And Lucya, this is Ari; a traveling companion of sorts.”

| | she expected the world but it flew away from her reach so she ran away in her sleep
Lucya's ears would not stop turning, flicking forwards and backwards as she assessed the situation. She had half a mind to reach up and physically hold them down. Traitorous ears.
It was half a heartbeat before she realized that she had been complimented; she blushed, then, a deep pink spreading across her cheeks and down her neck. Lucya smiled as well, a small, soft smile that grew, and averted her gaze, glancing downwards for a moment. It had been a long time since someone had complimented her truly, not just a stare or stumbling comment.
Looking back up with the same stupid grin on her face, Lucya nodded to Ari. The small child magi waved at her, wearing those ridiculous glasses, and Lucya let out a short laugh. It wasn't at Ari's expense -- she was quite taken with the small girl and how adorable she was. And, if she was a friend of Jason's, she'd easily be a friend of Lucya's, no doubt.
Ears perking up and flicking forwards, Lucya nodded. "A traveling companion, then? Is she like me?" Lucya questioned of Jason. It was a ruder question, but full of meaning that Jason would understand. More a question of, was Ari a foundling? Was Jason protecting her as he had protected and saved Lucya those years ago?
Regardless of the answer, Lucya turned to Ari with a smile. "Please to meet you," she said, humor laced through her words. Again, it was not so much at Ari's expense as it was Lucya being happy to meet a new -- if smaller -- friend. Gods knew friends were in short supply these days.
"You have some rice there," Lucya said, tapping the corner of her mouth and then gesturing to Ari's. "Were the onigiri any good? It's been awhile since I've had handmade ones."

why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] The fallen goddess was picked up with little effort. To be fair Ari didn't weigh much at all in this form. Gripped at the hips she was risen up to tall heights until Ari found herself sitting upon her new throne. "Hm.~" The tiny child mused to herself as her sneakers swayed momentarily as she took in her new view. This wasn't so terrible she supposed.
"Yes. I am comfortable." She'd answer, assuring her loyal one. To the fire magi who had visited her through her dreams, an experience that was still unique for him to claim alone, Ari would give a small wave as Jason would give his inclining single nod. As Ari had said herself, she was not wanting the attention that being claimed a goddess would give her. Not today. And it seemed the awakened Drew was not one for making new friends so it was best to let matters rest as they were.
It would be as her eyes shimmered from behind those darkly shaded lenses Ari would direct her attention to Jason's acquaintance. The slightest of breezes set Ari's hair dancing as the man who now carried her turned to acknowledge another. A familiar to him it seemed, but also to the Magi's patron goddess. If ever even once this mortal spoke her name, Ari would recognize the voice.
"It is nice to meet you too, Lucya." Ari would express with another wave. When it came to children greeting another a wave seemed to be the most common manner in doing so. Whether Ari was 'a traveling companion like Lucya' was for Jason to reply to. Ari may have been a Deity but she was a fallen goddess who was not privy to what exactly that entailed.
"... Huh?" Ari inquired with a tilt of her head and a confused gaze. A hand would rise up to where Lucya had motioned to. Much to her dismay there was in fact evidence of her last snack. "Oh!" Ari began as she brushed off the grains of rice with a lightly embarrassed laugh. "Yes, actually. I'd, uh, recommend them." [attr="class","oho"] he paid dearly for his moment of paradise while knowing in his gut it could never last. [attr="class","monalisa"]His nose wrinkled at the thought of trying fish. Fish was the one kind of meat that he hated, not least because they were difficult to get without getting soaked. And they smelled rank, like anyone's breath who tried them. Either way, the meatballs sounded good, so he smiled slightly at Cadence before she raced off in another direction. She seemed truly thrilled to have brought Fiamma with her to this place, and Drew was again thankful that he'd gotten to the young dragon Magi in time to protect her. It seemed he'd unknowingly protected someone very dear to his friend. It was a good feeling.
Jason and the small one were diverted, and Drew watched the pair of them go, still curious about their strange arrangement, but not willing to push the matter. They seemed to be greeting another Magi, one he was unfamiliar with. He headed away from them without another thought. There were other food stands to try, and maybe if he could find something mild enough, he might even bring something to Lilith, wherever she'd gotten off to. He found the meatball stand first, piling his plate high with the food that Cadence had recommended. Rice was a good filler, he knew, but he preferred something a little more hearty for his diet.
It didn't bother him at all to be left alone again. In fact, it was his preference. That might have seemed an odd thing for someone who'd come to a festival, but he'd never been a huge fan of crowds. If Lilith hadn't asked him to show up here, he wouldn't have stayed after set-up. He could never say no to his wife, unless it was a matter of her safety. Once his plate was full, he moved on from the food stands.

Jason’s tail clicked and clacked excitedly upon seeing the flush that came over Luce face, sympathetic with the soft, amused chuckle resonating in his chest. The man forced down the urge to smile wider and wrapped his tail around his waist to prevent the treacherous limb from betraying his emotions any further than it already had; there were many times that he could swear that the barbed extremity possessed a mind and spirit all its own. It wouldn’t surprise him given its tendency to seemingly act of its own accord at times.
He gave Lucya a slight nod to the affirmative, both to the question given voice and to one that remained unspoken. “I have taken it upon myself to protect her, though it took some time to convince the little one.” He smiled up at the goddess perched on his shoulders as she cleaned away the sticky remnants of her treat. “She may even be a touch feistier than you were in those days. Not as much time spent mending burned clothes to mend, so it’s not all the same.” In some cases, Jason hoped that it would remain that way. His dreams were still haunted by the phantoms of those that had been lost. The faces of men, women, and children alike would sometimes crowd his dreams whilst he wandered the Dreamweaver’s realm.
A tightening around helped to banish the dark fog before it could smother his thoughts like a blanket and for once Jason was glad for his tails near-sentience. Better still was the added benefit of returning to the conversation on a positive note. His lips parted slightly as though he intended to speak, but whatever would’ve been said died as he closed his mouth again. Then, he took a breath as he released Ari’s leg long enough to reach into his pocket and retrieve his prayer beads, concentrating on the feel of the smooth granite.
“If my little friend here wouldn’t mind, I’d enjoy it if you would mind enjoying the festival with us,” Jason urged. “I’d be glad for your company, my friend.” He’d smile if his friend accepted and would wait until she stood next to him. His tail would free itself from around his waist and wrap around Lucya’s waist, holding her protectively close. Jason likely wouldn’t even notice if neither of his companions chose to bring the gesture to his attention.

Jason was laughing. Jason was laughing at her. Lucya's blush deepened, but she was -- thankfully -- distracted by the small magi girl that had been lifted up onto Jason's shoulder. She was busy cleaning off the rice on her cheek as Jason spoke, and Lucya grinned at the small girl. Gods, if she isn't adorable, Lucya thought, one ear tilting to the side lazily.
Chuckling at the mention of burned clothes, Lucya turned back to Jason. "I remember that. It's easier now. I don't burn them as much -- I mean, sometimes. But not nearly as often." She didn't miss the concern, and the darker shadow, that crossed his face for a moment. Ears flicking forward, then relaxing, Lucya smiled warmly at the earth magi.
"Mm, I think I should try some onigiri!" Lucya said with a large grin cast in the Ari's direction. "Did you have a favorite -- and would you like any more?" Lucya asked, tilting her head to the side. In her case, she'd probably grab a sour plum one, some sort of fish, and perhaps -- if they had it -- a sweet chili; she would also try a favorite, if named by Ari. And if the magi child were so inclined for another, Lucya would definitely pay for it.
Before she had a chance to move to the stall, however, Jason had invited her to keep company with the duo. Lucya smiled warmly, reaching up and adjusting a loose lock of hair that she was definitely not nervously toying with. "Of course I would, if Ari doesn't mind," Lucya replied, looking up to the small girl.
Standing closer to Jason, Lucya found herself pulled in even closer, hitting his body with a small thump. As his tail tightened around her waist, she chuckled, patting the extremity. "Erm, Jason," Lucya said, tapping his tail lightly before gently brushing her fingers along the armored plates unconsciously, she waiting for him to reply. Or take notice, in this case.

why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] Some time, some tears, and an EF level three tornado. Ari thought to herself. That's what it had taken before a small Arithelia had agreed to the alliance the magi had offered. A traveling partner. A friend. Fiestier than the female magi in front of them who had, according to what they spoke of, burned holes into his clothes. Eh, Ari wasn't going to argue with that. She would have preferred another word to be used than "fiesty" personally but that was splitting hairs.
Beneath her the fallen goddess who sense the dark cloud of emotions that grew within traveling companion. Her facial expression wouldn't suggest this but a subtle twirl of her finger would also assist the man's mental state. The two had that conversation early on, the one about boundaries.
Ari was mostly already following the unwritten etiquette of being a fallen goddess and respecting her mortal followers' boundaries and privacy. She tapped in occasionally to see if a follower was doing as well as they may claim. But the act was attempted to be done discretely without them knowing. In this case it was the assisting of pulling away those negative emotions so that her traveling companion was not plagued by them at a time he was interacting with someone he seemed to care for.
"Honestly, I liked them all." Ari would admit with a small grin, surprisingly a touch shy. Yes, she had literally had one of each by that point so she knew what she was talking about. Mortals her size had room for maybe a couple of the treats. But one of each from the extensive menu? It was excessive to say the least. "You can't go wrong."
Ari would have, of course, said that she wouldn't mind at all if Lucya joined them. After everything Jason had done for her, small and large, the tiny goddess had absolutely no issue granting him something he wished for. What caught Ari's eye exceptionally though was the tail that wound around Lu's waist. "Hmm.~" Ari mused to herself with a recognizable smirk. “Hmm?” came Jason’s response. He looked down at the woman with a query forming behind his eyes. The question was in turn answered by Lucya’s sudden closeness, which only raised another question as to why. A familiar clicking prompted him to quest further downward to where his tail twitched contently around his friend’s waist. Jason blinked several times while his mind raced to fully process the unconscious, traitorous actions of armored extremity. Eventually, awkwardly and perhaps a bit unwillingly, Jason’s tail unclenched from around his friend’s waist and wrapped around his own. The man chided himself for the momentary loss of control and silently thanked the goddess sitting on his shoulders and any other deities that might be listening for the mercy of having dyed his skin such a dark color. It was highly effective hiding the slightest hints of pink that may have colored his cheeks otherwise.
“Erm… my apologies,” Jason struggled. “It seems as though the blasted thing still has a mind of it’s own.” He gave a few nervous chuckles before clearing his throat and settling his face into its usual stony mask; only it wasn’t nearly as impregnable as it normally would’ve been. His eyes showed nervous energy, his cheeks moved slowly as he worried at the inside of his mouth, and the chitin plates of his tail expressive as ever continued the writhe in silent protest at being denied.
He cleared his throat once again, pointedly avoiding directly confronting both of his companion’s gaze. “I believe that you still have yet to try one of those treats. Shall we?”
