[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] PLAYING GAMES She wondered if the Owl would come tonight. It was beginning to frustrate her. By all accounts, she was doing the right thing to draw His attention, but there was still no sight of Him. For weeks, she had been at this. For weeks, she wasted her time sitting on the roof of her office, surrounded by various devices, small machines, and puzzles. And it was cold every damn night, too! Thank the gods for portable heaters. The stars weren’t visible in Dagos, but the city proper was lit up like a beacon in a dark sea: casinos, hotels, attractions; the light seemed so close to the darkened area that made up the slums and market, and yet those who lived here knew just how far away they were from the light. She sat on a small, overturned crate, facing the small heater and only feet away from it. Her hoodie rustled in the breeze. The face mask of the hoodie was down, sacrificing warmth for the third cigarette of the evening. Her hands moved over a metallic logic puzzle, moving various gears and switches, releasing parts of the puzzle, step by step moving to complete it. In front of her, spread out on a blanket obviously meant for picnics, were other such puzzles, ranging from electronic and new to classics like rubik’s cubes, impossible knots, and even a chessboard set up to play. Various modern machines that she had customized and tinkered with were also scattered among the puzzles; perhaps He would even take an interest in her own cybernetic enhancements, as they were mostly modified by her hands, and unlike any seen today. She shivered as another burst of wind pierced through the cloth of her hoodie. Why had He not come for weeks? She even double-checked with His faithful, and received confirmation about the things the Owl enjoyed most. She even recently created an automatic chin-scratcher, complete with synthskin and programmed with humanlike randomization and error. She sighed, and paused her puzzle to remove the cigarette from her mouth and exhale sweet-smelling smoke. “Irilys, I wish to exchange knowledge with you, please,” Maevia said, as she said several times this night and each night before. She put the cig back and resumed her puzzle once more. She needed to know this. Did He know what she wanted to ask? Did Kupiec figure out her next step and inform Him? She rolled her neck and hummed. She was nothing if not tenacious in her pursuit of knowledge. If she had to do this for months, by the gods she would. The fact that Kupiec may be trying to sabotage her only redoubled her efforts. ===== Tags: Irilys Notes: Teacher please, I want to learn [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:285px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#000000;border:solid 1px #000000;color:#e4e0e0;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:10px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#000000;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#9589a0;border:2px solid #e4e0e0;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]

IC There would be silence.
............ eerily. Maevia would suddenly find herself fully submerged in a rarity of the mortal realm. True silence. The shift would not have been gradual but be of an almost violent collision of the strangest kind. No city ambience. No cars. No distant bass heavy music. No sirens. Even nature's natural mediums halted. There was no wind to hear nor feel its invisible touch. All sound was dropped within a second's time leaving the woman in a horrifyingly silent existence. The stupefying phenomenon had been known to cause mortals to react physically, whether it was a staggering backwards or falling.
So with an absolute inability to not notice the oncoming beating of wings, an owl would dive downwards from the darkened sky above. It would be with a single smooth motion that the being would stretch out its white wings and come to a rather graceful landing. Every daintiest and usual soft sound created from the movement of feathers would only seem amplified within the absence of all else.
"You are persistent." Would come the surprisingly intimidating and masculine voice from the beak of the Great Owl. Glancing up from the roof He'd just landed upon Irilys would stare with unblinking black eyes that contrasted intensely with the white feathers of the barn owl. The Bird's black speckled wings would fold properly behind Him, not a single feather out of place while He listened to any response the mortal may have.
Ignoring the gadgets, ignoring the technology, ignoring the machinery, ignoring the toys. Those pure black eyes would remain unblinking as He retained eye contact with the other. That is, until a soft sound could be heard. Glancing down, one of the God's claws would slowly loosen its grasp upon the tiny one He had flown in with.
The baby owl seemed understandably rather frazzled, dazed. A puffball of characteristically messy brown feathers would stumble from the claw and hop forward twice before falling over. A single small nudge with a claw the Deity would assist the small one to right itself before returning to standing in His earlier regal tall posture. The baby, blinking its own yellow eyes at the cyborg, would greet Maevia with a small chirp before it began hopping forward towards her, the one it had become familiar with.
Those black eyes would return to staring at the mortal who had summoned Him. "What is it you are wishing to ask of Me so diligently, Human?" Irilys would ask, not allowing the fact He'd heard her request before to change His tone of voice to one of shortness. Blunt and to the point, yes. Short and annoyed couldn't be attributed to the tone unless one was paranoid. Meanwhile the baby owl would continue its journey to hopefully eventually snuggle against the mortal who had been known to in the "past" feed it. OOC

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] MOMMA MAEVIA Maevia was rocking back and forth in her chair, expecting another night of nothing. She was in the middle of rocking backward when the silence struck, which caused the ever-vigilant broker to tumble all the way back. She rolled from her back to her knees and stood cautiously (To her credit, the cigarette never left her mouth). The stillness was… unsettling. Gods, even Camlorn wasn’t this quiet. It was as if time itself stood still. In fact, only one sound could be heard as she set her crate back upright; the distinct beating of powerful wings. He was here. She learned from Arithelia that respect went a long way, and so she knelt immediately with her head down. She flinched, too, at the unexpected voice. It was… unexpected, but then again anything would have been. Intimidating was a good word for it. She hadn’t imagined this booming voice when she talked to His priests and gathered accounts of His visits. She looked up. Persistent. Yes, she was. Her eye contact was, too, until the soft sound drew her eyes to the source. She tilted her head and furrowed her brows in confusion at the sight of the small puffball. Did… Irilys have a child? Nobody mentioned this, either. Was that even possible, or was this just some regular owl He brought along with Him? In any case, it seemed intent on hopping its way towards her. His voice drew her attention once more. She took the cigarette from her mouth and flicked it off to the side, away from both owls. Was He irritated or simply just to-the-point? It was impossible for her to tell without talking with Him more. “Great Sage,” she said. “Thank you for speaking with me. I-“ Chirp! She looked down at the smaller owl, who was getting closer to her. She looked back to Irilys. “I wish to-“ ChrrrrrChirp! Chirp! She looked back down. The curious-eyed little ball of feathers was chirping quite happily at her. She sunk to a kneeling position and fished around in her hoodie pocket for a granola bar. She crumbled it up before opening it, and set the bite-sized pieces of granola and nuts in a pile in front of her, hopefully to the little one’s satisfaction. Once it seemed distracted by the food, she would meet the God’s eyes once more. “Apologies,” she said. “Great Sage, I wish to know History, of a time long before known mortal records. I have spoken with both the Goddess of Magic and the God of Dealings recently. It is the history of the latter that I seek to understand.” There was no point in hiding; she may as well try to keep Anansi’s own secrets from him. If Ku could smell her meeting with Arithelia and vice-versa, then Irilys was certainly aware of her meetings with both. She felt herself trembling, as one tends to do before gods. She became aware of a small, soft warmth nestling against her human hand, and looked down to see the curious little bird using it as a scratching post. She scritched it under the chin, thankful for the distraction if nothing else. Would Irilys deem her request worthy of an answer? ===== Tags: Irilys Notes: Let me know if changes need to be made. IC Irilys watched on with those never blinking black eyes. They never wavered from the woman through out her motions. The bow. The little one interrupting her multiple passes. The sharing of her candybar with the baby owl. The Great Owl would nod once ever so slightly in showing that the apology was received and accepted. With the small one chirping happly as it nommed on the granola goodies Irilys would stand still. Listening. Hearing the same worded request once again.
The God would inhale lengthily and sigh once. To be Deity of "Fated Events" could be a tiring title after all. "I am not one to play twenty questions often if the asker is one of full maturation." Irilys would say, speaking in the same low timbered voice. "As you already know to an extent."
The topic had been breeched in a past playing of this scene. A past time line that had been allowed to shrivel up into nothingness, choosing instead to rewind and attempt again. Indeed, a follower of His had told Maevia of His soft spot for the young. There was more innocence in their wanting to learn. An awe that Irilys greatly appreciated and enjoyed. Children were a joy in that right.
But this was not a child before Him. "Those whose brains are not yet fully developed, children, often ask questions simply for the wonder of learning. To broaden their understandings of the world they exist in." The Great Owl's winged feathers fluffed momentarily as He adjusted their folded positions. "With adulthood comes more dangerous manners of thinking. Instead of learning to simply know your kind tends to use information to benefit themselves while being at peace with the fact it will also hinder others' wellbeings."
"So," The God began, His eye contact having never wavered. "Why do you ask what you ask? What do you wish to do with the answer?" The world about them still lingered heavily in that absolute silence. Not a single sound would exist nor any movement outside of the three partaking in this conversation. "How will you use the answer to your benefit and to others' dismay?" OOC

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] TRANSPARENCY She watched the tiny owl pick and peck at the crumbled bounty in front of it. Why the smaller owl? Was this some sort of test? Well, it seemed content enough now that it wouldn’t interrupt her conversation further. She listened to Irilys speak, keeping her eyes on His. She dare not protest his assessment, for He was correct; while she did enjoy learning things, having answers, and gathering knowledge for its own sake… it was also her business. No information crossed her desk that could not be put to use by her or someone else. Hunters and the MLM wanted each others’ movements and locations. Stalkers wanted waitress’s work schedules. Controlling boy and girlfriends wanted to know where their SO was at all times. Every little crumb was useful. She considered her next words carefully. “I cannot answer with perfect certainty how the information will be used until I know what it is,” she began. It was not a trick to get Him to divulge information; she learned from Arithelia that gods had little patience for such underhanded tactics. It was a statement, and spoken as such. The little owl that nuzzled against her hand was now doing its best to crawl up into it. Maevia curled her fingers and scooped up the needy little bird into her lap. “My intentions are to understand,” she continued. “Perhaps selfishly, my own safety is foremost in my mind; I always know who I do business with, but He is… mysterious. Perhaps dangerous. However… I theorize that He is not. There were many opportunities for Him to end my life, but He did not. At first, I suspected mercy, but now I suspect that… He cannot. I have never seen nor heard of Him taking lives, nor have I come across an instance, in my limited scope, where He has harmed another without it being a part of the deal, as it was with me.” The baby owl was not still during Maevia’s words; eventually it found a satisfying place to nestle in: Maevia’s hoodie pocket. It squeezed inside, did a few circles, and finally came to a rest with only its sleepy head poking out. Maevia placed her hand against it, and the grateful chick nuzzled against her warm skin. “If that is the case, He will be in less of a position to manipulate me, which is to my advantage and His disadvantage. If I am incorrect, I put myself in unnecessary danger. However… this is only part of the reason I ask.” She took a breath. There was no sense in trying to omit information to a god, let alone the god of knowledge himself. Her finger found the soft feathers of the sleepy owl, and she scratched its neck idly. “The Goddess of Magic hinted to me that there is something that plagues Ku. Something worse than falling, and perhaps something related to… a mortal woman.” The bitch, as Arithelia had so gracefully phrased it. And now that Maevia knew what happened to many fallen… it must be worse than she initially thought. “I am curious, but I do not seek to harm Him with this information. Rather, I wonder if there is a way to help Him. I would… not wish for others to have control over me. He may be dangerous, He may be a nuisance at times, and I may not trust Him entirely, but I would not be where I am without Him, and I have not forgotten that. I would seek to return the favor, if I am able.” Yes, for all her exhausted sighs at Ku, she did not forget the start he gave her. While it was Anansi who gave her the start she needed, it was her deal with Ku that secured her network entirely, even from her mysterious employer. More or less, He gave her a degree of freedom from Anansi, and so… perhaps she could return the favor, if her assumptions were right. They usually were when it came to mortals. The gods, however, had given her no small amount of surprises. ===== Tags: Irilys Notes: Babby owl: I live here now [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:285px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#000000;border:solid 1px #000000;color:#e4e0e0;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:10px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#000000;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#9589a0;border:2px solid #e4e0e0;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]

The God would think a moment quietly to Himself. The atmosphere's absolute silence making every small action noticeable. The baby owl nestled in the mortal's hoodie pocket with a content coo. A coo that Irilys actually answered with a soft acknowledgement within the apparent language this class of bird communicated in. It was a soothing comforting tone that could even be recognized by another species all together. The equivalent of an uncle assuring a toddler that they in fact did see their crayon drawing on the fridge.
With a small fluffing of the wings the Deity would take a step forward, the claw comfortably traversing the roof top. "Of all of my questions that is the one you did not prepare for answering." Irilys would observe. His head lowered to witness a claw move to pick up a silvery gear from one of the opened gadgets strewn about the area. "Every time I've asked you it, the answer has differentiated in one way or another. The others," The Great Owl glanced up with an owl's closest correlation to a grin, the amusement expressed in His tone, "you practiced well for."
A lengthy inhale would follow as the God casually spun the gear around a single talon. Thoughts were evident in the slight furrow of the feathers above those black eyes. The grin would have faded as He took His time in the process. If there was anything the God had, it was time. "This is My predicament, Maevia the human." Irilys would eventually decide upon, using the woman's name that she had not yet shared with Him in this time line. "With this information you have the potential of making ... distantly reaching consequences."
Those black eyes would raise again to meet the half natural, half mechanical gaze. "This is not a story that you will do nothing with. And your decisions will cause massive implications that will be felt for centuries to come in the least, easily millenia though most likely." A sigh would sound as He continued to stare at the mortal, almost as if searching for something. "So you understand my hesitation and wariness."
Another exchange of soft coos would be shared between the two owl like beings. Seemed the little one had discovered the joys of lint inside the pocket. A moment would pass as the Owl would appear suddenly just in front of Maevia. Any other deity would noticeably disappear from their previous standing to then emerge in their next preferred location. But there was no split second in between appearances here. Maevia would even swear the further away Irilys was still standing His distance when the next would appear but a foot away from her.
"Give me your hand, Maevia the human." The Great Owl would state as He would offer a stretched out claw as if a gentleman assisting a lady from their seat. The distanced Irilys would exist a few moments longer before dissipating into nothingness, leaving the current God alone once again.

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] LEAP Her face twisted into a confused frown. Every time? This was their first time meeting, wasn’t it? But… Irilys was also the god of time and fated events, wasn’t He? How many meetings had she had with the god? She wasn’t sure how to reply, so she simply remained silent, and hoped that her past self (or future self?) didn’t screw up too badly. Either this was a test or He was displeased with her before, and she wasn’t sure which one was the better situation. She was less surprised to hear Him refer to her by name. She took in and considered His words. No doubt knowing about the history of the gods could have implications, but it seemed Ku’s past was more than just an old story of jilted lovers or soured romance. Not that that was a surprise either; anything Kupi did was bound to be big. He was a troublemaker by nature, and so was she. She matched the gaze, looking into those beady, nearly emotionless eyes. Irilys was not someone she could read. Her mechanical hand rose to her chin. Her decisions could have that much of an impact? Her heart beat a little faster at the idea. Information with that much power … that was Maevia’s holy grail. She didn’t desire the world, nor artifacts, nor riches and gold; she wanted only to be the one with all of the cards, untouchable and free. And that… well, she could only nod at the Owl’s words. “I believe I do, yes,” she admitted. Her gaze shifted down for a brief moment at the wiggling in her pocket. She put her human hand gently on the little one’s head, petting it softly as it played with whatever it found inside. When she looked back up, Irilys was before her, causing her to jump and put her mechanical hand over her heart. The gods really enjoyed giving mortals heart attacks, didn’t they? Or… wait, was there… two? No time to think about that! Irilys seemed to have a plan for her, even after expressing hesitation. She doubted it would be what she requested, but there was no doubt it would be enlightening. Her cybernetic arm reached out and grabbed onto the outstretched claw, holding her breath for what might happen next. ===== Tags: Irilys Notes: what the hell do you have planned [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:285px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#000000;border:solid 1px #000000;color:#e4e0e0;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:10px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#000000;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#9589a0;border:2px solid #e4e0e0;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]

The talons wrapped around the metal, acting as a rung on a ladder as the Great Owl pulled Himself up. Irilys seemed very comfortable perching on the mortal's arm. Truth would prove accurate that this would not be the first time a mortal held His weight. It was normal position taking into account the form He took on. "Make sure the little one does not leave you during please. I'm trusting you." Upon both seeing and hearing a confirmation of his very serious request the God would exhale, the act apparently causing the world about them to ripple.
"This is not the first time we have spoken." Irilys would speak, His powerful voice sending further ripples through out the world about them as if they stood amidst a still pond now set to life by a million tossed pebbles. "We have gone through these motions before, you and I." Turning His head a full 180 as was common admidst the type of bird He had chosen for Himself, the mortal would witness that those black eyes were glowing.
If she were to turn around herself to see what was being looked at she would witness a hazy familiar sight. That was the outfit she had worn last week. But in this scene Irilys was seemingly playing chess with her as they chuckled lightly at the baby owl hopped onto the board, tired of not getting as much attention as it believed it deserved.
And yet a ways to the right of that display would be another. That was the outfit from, what? Two and a half weeks ago? Here Irilys stood upon her arm, actively exploring it with His beak as Maevia watched on with a smile as she spoke of her reasons of summoning.
And another would occur overlapping the first. There this past version of Maevia was holding the baby bird as it slept quietly in the palms of her hand. And another would overlap even that one. The baby owl was playing in the bun Maevia had put her hair up into as she and Irilys spoke very solemnly. "I have heard your well practiced words many many times." The God would say as His head turned yet again, further showcasing that there were indeed many many other hazy scenes surrounding them now. They surely covered near every square foot of the roof by now.
Amidst these scenes the God would look upwards from His perch, those glowing blackened eyes staring straight into Maevia's eyes regardless if she were to return the gaze or not. "The reason you do not remember is because I was forced to "rewind". They did not end ... favorably." There a Maevia was scratching the Deity's head. There she was instead showing the God her head scratching machine, an item that seemed to most please Him. And there a t-shirted Maevia was sitting indian style as she nodded, seriously focused on the words the Deity was sharing with her. "Your decisions and actions have not shown the results that I was hoping for up to this point ...."
"So this is My last time." Irilys stated strongly, the scenes playing around them trembling under the weight of His voice. "It tires Me to have to replay a single moment in space and time like this over and over. This is the last time that I will be visiting you on this subject. If you fail this time, you will never be allowed another chance. Do you understand?"

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] THIS IS IT She was a bit surprised to have the owl perch on her, and more surprised to be able to hold up His weight. Her other hand moved to the baby owl in her hoodie’s pocket, cradling the soft and warm bird in her hand. “Of course, understood,” she said, and looked down to make sure her new companion was indeed tucked safely in hood and hand. Her arm would not leave her pocket. Even if Irilys hadn’t requested it, she wasn’t exactly the type of person who wanted to put animals in danger. She wouldn’t be risking her life for one anytime soon, but this was easy enough. Well, it seemed like it would be straightforward… Until the world around them rippled. Events cascaded past her. Visions? No. History, apparently. She noticed some things different about her … self? Past self? Different clothes, mostly. The hoodie remained the same but there were small differences in the pants and the tank top she wore underneath. She reeled under the words of the god and the implications of these scenes. How many times had she done this and failed? Failure… goosebumps crawled up her skin. Failure was not something she endured well, mostly because she rarely did these days. She had all the cards, all the solutions, endless aces up her sleeves… And yet here she failed not once, not twice, but many, many times. And apparently, this was her last. She shivered. She made certain the little one was still secured in her hoodie pocket by moving her fingers around. A playful nip gave her the answer she wanted. She looked down for a moment at the squirming bird in her pocket; just who was this ‘little one?’ If Irilys was the god of time, could it be… No, there was no reason for Him to trust her with something like that. A test, most likely. Still, theories churned away in her head as the world shook. She took a breath, swallowed, and then finally, nodded. She had no way of knowing what He wanted, but apparently rehearsing her thoughts was what did her in before. She couldn’t do anything now but depend on herself to meet His expectations if she was to have His answer. With her back against the figurative wall, she looked up at Him. “I understand,” she said. ===== Tags: Irilys Notes: I WANT TO GET OFF MR. "Very well."
The visions of times passed disappeared in a flushed moment. Akin to the snuffing out of a candle. With the world still about them frozen and utterly silent the God's blackened eyes would turn from the mortal and gaze outwards. "The events you ask of happened a long long time ago. Before the birth of Magi. And even before the Great War. A time where I was still known as the Moon." The Deity would say, turning His head up to the night sky's display. "It was an era of Gods discovering their names within Human tongues so that They might receive praise with more ease. I was Irilys. And He was Kupiec." The stating of the other God's name was said with confidence. Perhaps there was no fear of the Deity of Commerce and Dealings to interrupt their discussion as long as time stood still.
The Great Owl's eyes remained unblinking as He continued to stare up into the blanket of stars. It would be obvious as He acknowledged His memories that He was not just retelling facts but remembering them. The events playing within His mind's eye as he spoke. "It was the dawn of what mortals coined 'religion'. A collected effort in giving a God oxygen in exchange for blessings and protections. It was when the pantheon of that Age reached out in agreements with mortal kind and grew along side them." The owl would pause before lowering His gaze to the cement ceiling they stood upon. "For some Gods it was easier to gain a following because of earlier name recognition or the lot They had chosen for Themselves. And for others it was difficult at first."
"Kupiec was not an earlier name known of. But nor was it the later's, for Those ... didn't last long afterwards as all praise began to become more finely pointed and defined towards specific Heavenly Hosts." Turning His gaze back to the mortal whose arm He was perched upon. "Think of early praise to be akin to the vague scattering of seed to as many pigeons in a park at once compared to holding out one's hand with all the seeds within to a single bird. That was the evolution of prayer through 'religion'. It empowered My kind to better serve the mortals that worshiped them and so on." The God had been teaching complicated concepts to mortals for thousands of years now. If there was anything Irilys was astounding in, it was His ability to simplify to better teach.
"So understandably so there was a joy that was reached in the finding of a 'religion' or followers to refer to as Their own. The term 'Patron' is a very fond title to Us. It's the reminder of what 'religion' is supposed to be. The trading of Our lives for the betterment of yours. Not a relationship of masters and slaves, of lessers and greaters, but a partnership. This is important for you to grasp if you are to fully understand the tale I am about to share with you." The Deity would wait for a confirmation before nodding once.
Irilys would inhale once lengthily before turning His gaze back to the frozen city scenery that could be seen from atop the roof they stood upon. "She was His first. And He loved her." The tone of voice would have shifted enough for an observant ear to notice. This was a subject that weighed heavily upon Him. A single nod would occur, "He loved her." Irilys would repeat softly as memories played behind those masking pitch black eyes. "He showered her with everything she ever asked for. Was nothing but giving."
"And she betrayed Him."
The sentence would be said bluntly. "The reason as to why has even eluded Me as time has continued. I do not know if the human girl had always planned on her actions or if there was a miscommunication in their ... relations. But regardless the conclusion remains the same. She wronged Him. Harshly." The Great Owl would fluff His feathers as if to shudder the memories from Himself. Almost akin to the shaking of raindrops from His feathers. "Mortal languages were still a new concept to Us back then. Spoken language in general was a mortal's invention that We needed to adapt to. He would not have been aware of what could now be considered as 'loop holes' in His dealings with your kind."
Eyes meeting Maevia's once again the God would speak very clearly, wishing not to have to repeat Himself if possible. "When a deal was made He was obligated to adhere to it, especially when the signature was made with His blood." Irilys would seem to give the feathered equivalent of an eyebrow raise. "Of the which you are aware holds great significance to Us. It was done originally as a guarantee to those who might fear ill gains that it was literally impossible for wrong doings on the God's part. And this worked well for Him, gaining trust from mortals at a rather impressive rate. His following grew very quickly becaue of this practice. However,"
"Such written safety nets that are used through common sense today were not used back then. So when the human girl of His rose her own pen and wished to add to an already signed contract of His, whatever she wrote became contractually binding." Those eyes would sharpen as they stared into Maevia's human eye. Piercing. Maevia having personally read every single contract before signing it would most likely remember with ease the first damn sentence on each one. Once a single signature from either party has signed nothing may be added or subtracted from this document. She could probably recite it by memory. "She chained Him through her written additions, purposefully attempting to take away anything that she had witnessed give Him any sense of joy. It was an attempt to cripple Him in even the most basic of interactions. To enslave Him." For the first time Maevia would witness the Great Owl blink. "And made it impossible for Him to tell anyone about what had happened in the hope that her cruelty would never be retracted."
The God would maintain eye contact for a while before turning to the side, staring at nothingness. "The manner of how We learned of it you do not need to know in depth at this time. But it is not something I wish to see again in My life time ... When mortals fall into violence in the hopes of destroying each other it is destructive. But when Gods do it, the massacre left behind is much more impactful by all levels of lives." Feathers would furrow above those blackened eyes. "It damn near began another Great War and I lost a good friend ... All because of the whims of a child whose order a chained God could not ignore ..."

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] ANSWERS BEGET QUESTIONS It was unsettling how used to Weird God Shit she was becoming. When the images snuffed out, she only inhaled a surprised breath. Her body still shook; a mixture of anticipation and fear; no matter what the accounts said, she never could predict when she was overstepping a god’s hospitality. So she listened. She listened intently while the back of her mind tossed the pieces Irilys gave her into gaps that she’d had in her puzzles. It was a very extensive puzzle, with pieces she thought out of her reach; needless to say, every word Irilys spoke was a boon to Maevia, knowledge given freely that she would have sacrificed so much to have. The only thing that kept her grounded to reality was the fervent nuzzling and nipping from the small bird in her pocket. There was a surprising amount of information on gods themselves packaged in His exposition. Humans… came around the same time as them? Or perhaps just before, or just after, from the sound of it. And magi, too; magi came after both? Perhaps then Arithelia truly was the “Mother of Magi” in a more literal sense… And so, too, did she learn of the birth of religion, and in learning that, Irilys gave her a key piece of information. Gods could, indeed, die without praise. It seemed that many had. Sure, there were thoughts. Theories. Accounts. She had no solid evidence until she met Arithelia… and now it was confirmed by the god of knowledge Himself. Gods needed praise to live. Their ‘oxygen.’ While there was no way to use this knowledge as a weapon against a god, it was a confirmation of her theory; if she could help Magi restore faith in Arithelia, she may be able to rise to her divine state once more. She’d have to talk to Claire and Embry for updates soon. She tilted her head to Him. Partnership. So that wasn’t just a Kupiec thing after all; did most deities truly believe themselves as partners to their faithful? That… was an interesting view. Her gaze followed His, looking from the sky, to the city, and whichever way He turned. She didn’t want to miss anything, although it seemed He was just… reminiscing. She nodded along to His story; there was, in fact, a “her.” Maevia guessed as much; between Arithelia’s hints and her own testing of His patience, there was little else it could be. Just as she was nodding along, happy to be right, Irilys hit her with something she didn’t expect. Betrayed? She must have been bold to try that. Not only that, but to plan that move required careful calculation, especially if Irilys Himself did not know… She couldn’t begin to guess the woman’s motives were anything other than power. Enslavement. Cruelty. Her face scrunched up in disdain; Maevia was the queen of sneaking, ambition, manipulation… but enslavement? That was a lazy and dangerous path, one she very deliberately did not walk. Debts were a form of control, but to bind another to servitude was short-sighted, risky, and foolish. Trust was the lifeblood of her business, and to know someone broke it so thoroughly… she actually pitied the god. Once that emotional response coursed through her brain, she began to fit, analyze, and examine the pieces given to her. His contract stipulation made sense, though Maevia never suspected anything of it; it was standard fare for a contract. Still, the clue was so close, and she missed it. But the rest of Kupiec’s actions made sense now. She suspected many things over the years. Kupiec never killed without it being a sacrifice, and now she guessed it was because He was bound not to; a basic step this woman would have taken to protect herself. He seemed to be unable to eat and drink most mortal sustenance; was that also a stipulation? She shuddered; could you keep even a god obedient by denying them the freedom to eat and drink? Why deny Him all joy? Even for enslavement, that made very little sense. He loved her, and she was so thorough with her cruelty? No wonder Arithelia said deities are so distrustful of mortals. A spark of thought erupted somewhere in her mind. If He was still bound by those rules, the contract must still be active. The one who wrote it… she was clearly intelligent and thorough. It’s unlikely she would have allowed Him to access it, if she thought ahead to even prevent him from mentioning it… even after her death? She was dead, right? Maevia then noticed that there was silence. Full silence. How long ago had Irilys finished speaking? She nearly jumped out of her shoes when the owl in her pocket forced his head past her protective hand to look outside of her pocket (though fortunately, he did not seem interested in escape just yet). She looked to the god, and figured it was her turn to speak. Gods, what does one say to that? “I… I see,” she said. “I did not… I could not… hm. I don’t really have words for that. I doubt I could ever understand the level of that betrayal. It’s so thoroughly cruel.” And she works with cruel every day of her life. But this was a step beyond. She turned to regard the completely still city while a finger idly scratched under the baby owl’s chin. Her face showed rarely seen emotion- not just hints, either- she truly was disgusted and perhaps even angry about someone doing such a thing. It happens, of course, in her line of work; Fey was a good example of someone sacrificing another as a scapegoat. Idiots. Business can’t be conducted without death in Dagos, but to knowingly toss someone under the bus was both a foolish move (Valkorion’s encounter was an example of why) and a sign that someone lacked higher thought processes. She’d made an empire without doing it, and she would continue to. “So to this day, that is what dictates His existence,” she said. She shook her head almost imperceptibly. “Such a long time. I assume since she was mortal, she has since passed on. But the contract must still be active.” She tapped her cybernetic finger idly against her other arm. That meant it was still intact. It existed. It… could be found. Her finger stopped. It could be found. She turned her gaze to the god’s. “This despicable woman… does she have a name?” ===== Tags: Irilys Notes: WORDS, WORDS, WORDS [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:285px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#000000;border:solid 1px #000000;color:#e4e0e0;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:10px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#000000;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#9589a0;border:2px solid #e4e0e0;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]

Patience was something Irilys upheld easily. He spoke with mortals enough to have gained it. There was an understanding that time was needed for registering facts, especially when He had given just so much dialogue in one sitting. So much that the mortal, whom He considered to have a higher IQ than the average mortal, still struggled with words directly following the silence. The anger upon the woman's face was once again a positive sign the God considered. Maevia had just been told a tale that caused much grievance for Deity-kind. It was nice to see the mortal was still displaying the ability to empathize with the situation in this time line as well.
"That is accurate." The God would respond in case she had been looking for reassurance. Indeed, the lesson to be taken away was that the contract was still active. It was binding. It still had immense power of the one who Lorded over Commerce and Dealings. "That is also correct." Indeed, the woman who had written her additions had long since passed on. A thought private thought seemed to halt the information broker dead in her tracks and once again, Irilys would wait. Eventually she would turn to address him with full eye contact. "Mm." The Great Owl would begin. Good, she was willing to seek out the contract this time as well.
"She has had many." Irilys would say in response, those black eyes easily maintaining that focus. "Her soul, just as any other, has been allowed to remain in the cycle. After discussion among a few within the pantheon this was agreed to be the best course of action. And so it was and has been. The soul has been reborn many many times. Each cycle being carefully plucked and placed by Tatara's cautious hand into wombs that would result in the least amount of damage." The smallest chance that the soul would become enlightened or informed of the power she held. The university had a knack of trying to find the reincarnations after all. Quite the game of battleship that one was.
"So instead of giving you names I think instead I will answer the question that was not asked." Irilys would note the baby owl enjoying its time with the mortal before continuing. "I am going to send one of my faithful to you to a location you have already told me of in a past attempt. Her name will be Surai and she will greet herself to you with the singular use, if you still wish it, of your real name. Of the which you have also shared with me in a past attempt. This way you will know with assurance who represents Me and who will assist you further in this matter that you wish to assist with ...."
Somehow with a manipulation that was impossible for an average bird, the God would display a soft smile somehow while still maintaining the appearance of an owl. The sentiment in the very least would easily come across in His tone in the very least. "Of the which I am grateful of your wishing to help right this wrong. Most in your position would," Irilys would chuckle coldly to Himself but once at His next correction, "have chosen to attempt in taking advantage of such a situation. I have been waiting so so long for someone like you to come along, Maevia the Human." Those pitch black eyes would allow pigments of color to materialize, forming slowly but surely a gentle hazel hue. "With the guidance of Myself through the filter of my follower, I believe you can do this."
The statement would be said with power. Sincerity. Determination. Hope from a version of the God who had not yet traveled forward in time to see if in fact this time line proved fruitful. "You have been close each time. The only last factor you seem to not have been successful in is reassuring that the God does not take revenge upon being released." Before them a similar form from earlier would appear. A Maevia with her hair pulled back into a ponytail as she played with the baby owl as she waited the short amount of time it took Irilys to move His chess piece. "If the process is rushed and He is released before forgiving, He will destroy the soul that wronged Him and in doing so will change Him."
The scene before them would fast forward. Seemed the two finished their talk and Irilys flew off, leaving Maevia to walk away with the baby owl cradled in her arms. But then the world about them continued to fast forward faster. Faster. Faster. Faster. The sun and moon's cycle in the sky would blur past in a continuous stream of light eventually until finally it slowed back down. How much time would have passed? The snows of winter seemed to had fallen during their transition. "He will cast aside all restraints having become high on the newly founded freedoms He will have gained. The God, Kupiec, will have contorted into something darker and crueler, leaving behind misery and sorrow." The building beneath them in the future this time line offered would experience a sudden and loud violence. A female scream would even be heard amidst the absolute destruction, one that would possibly sound familiar to the woman whose voice was the same. "I believe the combination of both you and Surai will be successful. I don't believe a God needs to remain chained. But I also don't believe His freedom has to come with such dark repercussions. There has to be a version of events where neither of these come to pass and I believe it is this one."

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] GAME OF NAMES She settled her chin between her thumb and fingers and furrowed her brows in thought as the god spoke. She figured her assumptions were correct, as they often were, but you could never tell when it came to literal deities. Many names… the cycle… Hm, so she retained the power, if not the knowledge she HAD such power. It would be dangerous to all gods, she agreed, but this time it seemed unlikely she could just call Tatara and ask Him which body the soul was in now. Then again, why not just meet the whole pantheon while she was on a roll? The thought was considered for a moment before being tossed aside as risky and fruitless. She looked up at Irilys; was He trying to help her? Before she could question why, the god said something that utterly and thoroughly frightened her. Your real nameShe froze. Her mind froze. Her name… Irilys knew. Of course; despite how many records she completely destroyed, erased, repossessed, or edited by mortal means, it wasn’t something that could stay hidden from the God of Knowledge. The fact that it apparently came from her own mouth in a different timeline left her stupefied; she made sure that nobody knew that name, because to know her name was to have power over her; it was a footstep, a handhold, a vague push to gather more and more information about her. Before she even worked for Anansi, her identity was long erased. She’d taken more than a dozen names since, and still had hundreds of false identities in use around various parts of the world. She told him her weakness. He knew it. And now, one of his faithful did, too. A wave of nausea rushed over Maevia; her legs felt weak and she crumpled into a seated position. The little owl crawled its way up her hoodie to her neck, where it settled against the still-shellshocked information broker. “My name…” She said. She took a deep breath. She’d lose sleep over this later, but for now she nodded. “Nobody else knows. That… will be enough of an indication for me to prove she is your chosen one for the task, yes.” Further conversation was a welcome distraction that brought her focus back. Though what He said was just as, if not more, surprising; He was waiting for someone like her? So He did want to help, because He also needed some Himself… at least their goals were aligned. She nodded to Him and rose to her feet once more, careful not to let the little bird fall; fortunately, he seemed safe nestled in the folds of her hoodie, next to her neck. “I will,” she said. This was something of the ultimate puzzle, the biggest challenge… how could she turn this down? That alone was motivation enough. She turned her head at the sudden vision, and listened carefully. “Hmm.” She put her hand back to her chin and tapped idly. She jolted at the explosion of sound, eyes widened at the scream. It took only a few moments for her to understand what took place; Irilys entrusted her, she succeeded, but did not take into account the impact on Kupiec… And she would have likely made the mistake again, without this vision. “I see. Patience will be the main key, then.” And forgiveness… but how the hell would she get Him to do that? She folded her arms in front of her chest. “Though teaching Him to forgive will be difficult. I hope this ‘Surai’ has some ideas, or that you do.” She nodded at His assessment of the situation. “I agree; it is a delicate situation, but there is always a solution. I will find it.” Another thought sparked in her mind at these last visions, one that went unsaid to the God before her. He will cast aside all restraints having become high on the newly founded freedoms He will have gained. The God, Kupiec, will have contorted into something darker and crueler, leaving behind misery and sorrowWhat, then, will happen when Kupiec’s plan comes to fruition? When the ones behind the University walls are also freed so suddenly… what will they do? ===== Tags: Irilys Notes: oh she HATES this name thing [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:285px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#000000;border:solid 1px #000000;color:#e4e0e0;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:10px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#000000;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#9589a0;border:2px solid #e4e0e0;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]
