"Butterfly in the sky, I can go twice as high. Take a look, it's in a book, a Reading Rainbow!"
It came to pass one day in the cbox that members were sharing "interesting facts". Why not make an OOC game of it? Below you can post interesting facts just for the fun of it. It can be "huh" worthy, it can be "what the f***?!?" worthy. All we ask is that you don't post anything too graphic or mature for the PG13 proboards rating. Have fun learning~
And yes. LeVar Burton shall always be represented here in all of his majesty and epicness. This is not up for debate. <3

Ran into a Post about interesting History facts. Decided to share!~
DID YOU KNOW? Romans believed in other peoples' gods/goddess. So when they would attack a city they would pray to the god/gods of said city to abandon the occupants and support the Romans instead. If they won they would give the god a special place in Rome or completely incorporate it into the state religion.
DID YOU KNOW? The Ancient Greeks did not view it as gay or straight they saw it as dominant and submissive. In short they had no concept of being gay.
DID YOU KNOW? That time Liechtenstein sent 80 soldiers to war and they made a friend so they returned with 81
DID YOU KNOW? How we know the exact path of Lewis and Clark? The reason why is because the men of the group had sex with prostitutes almost immediately at the beginning of the trip and the old cure for syphilis (or whatever) was mercury. So they drank it and inevitably would need to urinate. This left behind mercury as well, which as a heavy metal is easily detectable. So they just put all this spots on a map and played connect the dots.

Wandered into the trivia side of youtube and thought I'd share a few.
1) You know how babies in medieval paintings look like middle aged men? They were done like that on purpose because paintings were influenced by the church. The idea at the time was that Jesus was born 'perfect and unchanged' and so the art reflected that idea. They went back to 'cute babies' in the Renaissance because people suddenly had the money to get their own babies painted and they didn't want them to look like middle-aged men (no wonder right?)
2) Most of the time, police sketches look nothing like the person arrested. This is because the witness has trouble describing features accurately. Witness testimony can be completely off the mark. In the case of police sketches, this can lead to wrongful arrests and even incarceration because someone might say 'hey that guy looks like that police sketch'.
3) The heart symbol we know came about because artists wanted to draw it as a symbol of love but didn't know what it looked like. The Catholic church prohibited autopsies at the time. By the time anatomical drawings showed up in the 16th century, the symbol had taken hold.
And FINALLY
4) Why does the Wingdings font exist?
Apparently it started at the beginning of the printing process. Setting type was tedious, and pretty text was even more so. To decorate pages ornately, dingbats were created. Dingbats were basically there because they didn't want to slot more text in there. It saved time and made the stuff beautiful. The classic dingbats font was created by Herman Zapf who worked on paper and in typing. He was a calligrapher, and the dingbats font was used to save time by typographers. Then people inspired by that initial font created the arrows and stars. Microsoft bought those fonts and called them Wingdings combining dingbats with windows. Dingbats weren't meant to be typed, they were meant to save time when pictures were difficult to create.
