Welcome to your
Ah, sweet little Kelri. What an interesting woman; an artist of confections and baked goods, and a devout follower of Taters. And yet, one who does not pay homage to me during her prayers. Let’s see if we can’t make a believer out of her today, ahuhu~. Ready, Opgraven?
Kelri would find herself in the back of Sweet Nothings; another day in her beloved shop. It wasn’t open yet, but preparation was always needed. But nothing seemed to be coming out right; cupcakes would not rise enough, the oven would burn things just a bit too much, cookies would taste just a bit too bland. And the kitchen itself would be familiar, and yet nothing would be in the correct place. An oven on a different wall. A rolling pin in an unusual cabinet. And she only had twenty minutes before she opened for the day!
But at least one thing was normal; her favorite oven mitts fit snug on her hand (so snug, in fact, if she tried to remove them she’d find herself unable to do so!).
Now, Nevyne would allow this dream to exist how it did; it was already curious to see Kelri have trouble with her art; she never did, back in the mortal plane, and every artist needed a humbling thought every now and again. However, soon it would be time to shake things up, for another person’s dream had collided with hers.
After a long time of watching Kelri in her kitchen, and tending to the Other (who had, thus far, disappointed her greatly), Nevyne thought it fitting to guide the two together. Kelri would hear the pounding of a door at the front, then a desperate clunking of someone trying to open it, and finally a familiar voice.
“Kelri? Kelri are you in there? Please, Kel!” It was Jasper, and he sounded frightened and weak. He looked frazzled, dirty, and was breathing heavily. Nevyne’s lips would curl, and although she was unseen in this little movie, the time would come for her to self-insert. Soon… soon.

Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ Kel was having an incredibly bad day. She couldn’t seem to find anything and everything seemed to be going wrong. What was wrong with her? Why was she acting this way, clumsily moving along the kitchen trying to get ready for the day. Gods she couldn’t even find her apron! Everything was just moot today. She had debated about closing the shop, but she should probably power through. Business should still be conducted even if Kel was having a bad day. Kel smiled as the timer on the oven went off. At least her chocolate chip cookies would be wonderful. As they always were. It was hard to go wrong with this recipe. Pulling her cookies out of the oven Kel smiled as they looked just about done. Taking one of the cookies and daintily biting into it, she knew that if there was anything wrong she just might cry. Yup. Turns out from the minuscule taste she had she had used salt instead of sugar. Gods how could she be that stupid? For years at a culinary institution for this? Aggravated Kel went to put the cookies on the prep space and tripped. Why was she so clumsy today? The cookies fell all over the floor. Frustrated Kel turned to the chocolate cake she was supposed to frost today. It was a clean cut cake, that would taste absolutely delicious with the white chocolate frosting she had concocted. She went to take off her oven mitts... and.... Oh gods, WHAT was going on! Who in their right mind would put superglue in oven mitts. Frowning Kel was legitimately getting angry. Who was she supposed to frost her cake like this? With no moment of her fingers, no graceful sweep of the frosting along the cake? Now Kel isn’t a normally angry person. She also isn’t normally brought to tears very easily. Kel was getting to that point though. Just... Who would do something like this, She wondered if might have been her brother’s idea of a prank. Maybe they were the ones responsible for her horribly bad day. She kept trying and trying and trying to get the oven mitts off, but alas they would not budge. Frustrated Kel gave up and started to frost the cake as best as she could. It wouldn’t be her prettiest work, but it would still be delicious and wonderful. She hoped that her customers wouldn’t mind the oven mitts. Just as Kel had gotten the cake looking somewhat decent, and had started to carry it out into the shop area, the doorbell rang. Caught completely off guard, Kel tripped (again) and took a falling forward, face right into the white chocolate frosted, chocolate cake. Slowly taking a moment to collect her thoughts, Kel tried not to cry, wiping at the tears that were starting to form at the edges of her eyes, all the while smearing the frosting into her skin more. Getting up, face full of frosting Kel, Kel was startled to hear her brother at the door. He sounded distraught. What had happened? Going to the door, holding back tears, Kel slowly opened the door. “What’s wrong Jasper?” the little baker looked utterly pitiful in this scenario, and her brother would be able to tell this was not a good day for her. “Is everyone okay?” From the look of him he looked like... well to be honest, he looked like he had been to Kalidas room and scorned her. He did not look good. Normally Kel never saw her brother like this, so it came as quite a shock to the young woman. “What is going on? You never come to my shop?” Gesturing she walked back into her shop and went to get something to clean up the cake on the floor. -tag: Nevyne #words:634 - notes: All the nightmare stuff... - muse:N/A MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

Welcome to your
Nevyne silently laughed at Kelri’s little tumble into the cake. Even when she wasn’t making art, she was proving to be amusing.
Her brother seemed positively shaken. Even in this state, he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at Kelri.
“You’re real, right?” He said, words bordering on caution. “Kel, tell me you’re real. I’m… I’m in a dream. I can tell. I just spend gods know how long wandering a damn desert and your shop was the first thing I came across.”
Such a liar! Nevyne tsk tsk’d and shook her head. Oh Jasper…
He looked around, as if he were being followed, and tentatively approached the counter. “Look, you’ve heard the news, right? People dying in their sleep? Totally healthy people, just… gone! Dead! Nothing!”
He wiped sweat from his brow and looked into Kelri’s teary, cake-smeared eyes. “What if it’s dreams? I… what if they die in their dreams, you know? The prayers I’ve heard … you follow Tatara more than any of us, you know them! The ones that mention the banshee.”
He grunted and flinched, gripping his abdomen tight as he doubled over in pain. “G-guhh… Kel, I… I need something to eat. Please.” He looked up at her, his face not the confident, playful brother she was used to. No, this was the face of a man, broken and scared, and forcing the weirds out of his mouth in a veil of uncertainty. “If you’re real, please… anything! And if you’re not, just… just…”
He flinched again, and lowed his head to the counter. “I don’t care. Something. Anything. Please… I’ve been starving since I got in this damned nightmare. Going through a desert... oh gods... I'm so hungry.”

Today was not going well in the least, and if the cake on Kelri’s face was any indication, it didn’t look like it was going to get better.
Kel frowned as her brother appeared to her shaken. She didn’t know why he seemed to be questioning everything around, it was a normal , albeit horrendously going, day. She just shook her head silently at the raised eyebrow though. Jasper knew better than to say anything.
At Jasper’s question Kel stopped in her tracks. “Of course I’m real Jasper, I’m real, and I’ve got cake on my face, what else could you want as proof?” She frowned a bit as Jasper insisted he was in a dream. “Jasper, it looks like the normal shopping district outside to me, I got up and came here and...” Kel paused a moment and thought. She couldn’t remember actually coming into work today. She knew she had to have, but she couldn’t remember it. She grinned though when Jasper mentioned that her shop was the first thing he had come across. “See, even Karma wants you to visit me more!” She gave her signature smile as she grabbed a bottle of water from under the counter to hand to her brother. “Here, take this and try to calm down.”
Even if this was a dream, Kel knew her shop. She knew that this was her domain. Even if today was going terribly, Kel had confidence in her own merits, the shop being one of them.
Kel watched her brother pace the room and the front of the counter. The boy did seem fidgety. More than usual to say the least. Kel meeting her brother seemed to shock her out of her emotional almost crying state. The woman was surprisingly resilient when it came to her family. If Jasper was in trouble, well it was only a dream, but even dream Kel was protective. “Most people die of old age in their sleep. It isn’t that uncommon.” She didn’t see what the big problem really was. “Look, if we are in a dream, we are aware of it then, which means we can influence our actions.” She gave her brother a small smile. “Besides, we are stronger together than apart right?”
Kel finished wiping the cake from her eyes with a small washcloth that was by the sink. Anything was better than cake eyes at this point. She scoffed a bit. “Are you saying that people are dying in their dreams, rather than their sleep?” Kel titled her head a little at the thought. It didn’t really make sense. That was until Jasper mentioned the Banshee. Kel’s face, already white from the lasting remnants of the frosting paled a little. Muttering she looked over to jaspers sweaty form. “Do not forget the Banshee in your prayers, for She is easily slighted… lest She imprison your soul within Her realm, hidden from the keeper Tatara, unable to return to this earth, wandering in eternal nightmare.” it was one of the more well-known doctrines of the religion. You didn’t mess with the Banshee. If you did your soul could get caught in her plane, and even Tatara couldn’t save you.
Kel was a bit lost in her thoughts when Jasper doubled over. Startled she walked behind the counter and pulled (awkwardly of course with the oven mitts) a case of cookies. “I don’t have anything really substantial, but you know I always have sweets. She offered a small smile over and shook her head. “I’m real,” She went over and handed him the basket. “I promise.” If Jasper was in this much pain, and the Banshee really was the one behind this, Kel frowned at the implications.
“Jasper...” Kel looked pointedly at her brother. “What did you do to piss off a goddess?” Obviously he had gotten into some sort of shenanigan, and had somehow managed to piss off a goddess. Anything was possibly, and she knew her mischievous brother was capable of such incidents. “Seriously Jasper, can you think of anything that you did that would make Her mad?”
Yes this was the route Kel was going in her thinking Obviously her brother had done something wrong. Even if it was true, she didn’t doubt it mind you, Kel was protective of her siblings. Offering up a silent prayer to the goddess, Kel looked around her shop. If you are listening, I do apologize for whatever my brother has done. I swear he didn’t mean to be disrespectful, and he should--at this Kel looked to her brother with worry--should know better.

Welcome to your
Oh Jasper… Would you really do this to your sister? It was such an easy command to follow. Oh dearie me. This comedy may turn into a tragedy after all.
Jasper didn’t take well to her conversational tone. He appreciated that Kelri was acting like his sister, but he was too nervous to engage in pleasantries. The most he did was nod at her reassurances. His trembling form sunk to his knees, gripping his stomach.
“I didn’t piss her off!” He yelled, voice full of fear instead of anger. “Kel… people aren’t dying in their sleep like old people! It’s Her, I’m sure of it. I don’t know why she’s doing this… I swear… I didn’t do anything! I didn’t ask for this!”
He gripped the water and cookies in his shaking hands, considering them. For someone who had asked so desperately for them, he seemed hesitant to actually indulge.
“Stronger… together…” he said, echoing her earlier words. “Yeah… it’s… it’s a dream! We’re safe. Ha! Of course.” He gave her a weak smile. “You really are Kelri, heh. Only my sister could be so sweet and give me a lecture in the same breath.”
Nevyne watched the scene with interest, and tilted her head slightly at Kelri’s silent prayer. Her lips curled into a smile. Praise from Tatara’s little faithful one. What a sweet girl, this Kelri. But it wasn’t up to her any longer, dear. Jasper’s dream was set in motion, and he knew what he had to do. Or not do, rather. Ah, if only you knew what hid within your brother, you beautiful, naïve child. Ahuhu~
Jasper, with renewed confidence, looked down at the food in his hand. If Kelri was real, then he was in her dream, and that meant he was safe from his, right? Hungrily, he shoved a large bit of the cookie into his mouth, with a satisfied look on his face. This look, however, didn’t last long. His eyes bulged in panic, and he froze for a moment before flailing around, making the universal sign for choking before falling backwards onto the shop floor. He writhed around like a fish out of water, and if Kelri went to help him, well, she’d find it all but impossible due to the awkward mitts that would not come off. She wouldn’t be able to help him sit up, nor physically remove the blockage in his throat.
Tsk tsk tsk. Jasper! Ever the fool. I told you not to eat, did I not? Oh, Oppy. They never learn, do they?

It was fitting that Kel was as she was. It only made sense that she would continue her natural actions in her own shop. Even if it was a dream, it was more than enough for her to continue her normal life.
Apparently her brother didn’t think so. He looked like he was in pain, and honestly, Kel didn’t understand why. He nodded at her, but was trembling for some reason and she really didn’t understand what was going on. Especially when he fell to his knees. Oh gods, and goddesses, This was not going well.
Kel put down the small bottle of water she had been holding as her brother yelled at her. “If you didn’t do anything wrong, why are you yelling at me?” She really didn’t want him to have done something, but the more that he started to squirm and she heard his voice get full of fear, the more she knew he had done something. It was the guilt she recognized. At her brother’s insistence that he didn’t do anything she sighed and thought. “Well if you didn’t do anything, maybe that is the problem. Did you include her in your offerings? All gods and goddesses must be worshiped equally. Even if it is just a mention, you don’t forget her.” Kel bit her lip looking at her brother. “Gods intervene whether we want them to or not, we are just intruders on their home after all” Her brother of all people should know that.
Kel watched as Jasper seemed to judge whether or not to indulge in the things he had been offered. For some reason he seemed afraid. Kel didn’t really understand what was going on, but she looked him over quizzically. What had he done?
Kel nodded over at her brother sitting down by him on the floor. If this was a dream, she wouldn’t need to be opening any time soon. Now if only she could get these damn oven mitts off. They were seriously getting on her nerves, all she wanted to do was give her brother a hug. He looked like he needed it. “Of course we are stronger together. That’s the Anderson way, right?” Kel tilted her head at the next statement though. “I don’t know if we are safe, but we have influence over our actions, by becoming aware, we can shift our own actions and course of our dreams.” She smiled and nodded at her brother. “Of course I’m me. Who else would I be?”
Kelri sighed as she prayed looking at her brother and shook her head. Whatever he had done, he had made the Banshee very very mad. That was very very bad. To say this was in the least. Kel frowned as she watched her brother, eyes wide in fear. Looking upwards, because that is what one did with gods and goddesses, Kel muttered, just loud enough for the Banshee to hear, and not her brother. “If he has done something, please forgive him. He may not be the most respectful, but he is still my brother. Family. I beg you to be merciful in your judgment of him.” Kel looked up towards the ceiling of the shop. Hopefully she was at least listening. Kel doubted she cared, but she had to try.
Kel stopped for a moment as Jasper shoved some of the cookie in his mouth. Wow, it really did look like he was starving. And at what cost? Kel could only stare in horror as Jasper’s eyes started to bulge. “Jasper? Jasper!” Kel moved towards her big brother as he flailed around on the ground. Oh gods, it looked like he was choking! Kel rushed forward to try and help her brother. Damn these oven mitts! Kel pulled and pulled and pulled on them, unable to get them off and help her brother. She was helpless as she looked on.
“Gods be damned Jasper, sit up!” Kel was very worried right now, she couldn’t help it. What could she do? Could she do anything? Looking around Kel made a beeline for the nearest chair. Maybe she could prop her brother up against that. If she was able to, she might be able to Heimlich maneuver the cookie out. Running back to her brother, dragging the chair up against his form, Kel tried lifting her brother. No such luck. Gods, he needed to lose some weight. She wouldn’t lose him like this.
Standing and dropping down onto her brother Kelri rammed her elbow into her brother’s stomach. If she couldn’t Heimlich properly this way, maybe she could force it up and out. This was the only thing she could think of right now, but she wouldn’t let her brother die on one of her cookies. Even if this was a dream, the Banshee was playing a cruel joke on her by sending her brother to die in her dream.
Kel shook her head and bit her lip. No, this was not the time for tears. She would do this. Forcing all of her body weight onto her brother's stomach, she could only hope that he would convulse and the food would be ejected from his throat. If this didn’t work, she didn’t know what she was going to do, except well, try again.
“I will not let you have him.” The words were out of her mouth before she even recognized what she was saying. Normally she was respectful to all of the gods, and she would never think of defying them, but this was different. Jasper was family. He was her brother. If it meant saving him Kel would go up against the divine. Finding a strength in her she shook her head as she tried her unorthodox approach again. “I. Will. Not. Let. You. Have. Him.” She glared as she continued, trying her damnedest to get the piece of food out of Jasper’s throat.
“Do you understand me Banshee?”

“Dear, I’m right here; there’s no need to raise your voice.”
The voice, smooth as melted chocolate, would coo gently from behind Kelri. Nevyne had helped herself to a seat in the bakery, with an ornately-carved silver tea set splayed out in front of her. It was complete with two cups and saucers, a tall pot, and a bowl with tongs for sugar. Nevyne sat there, in her base form, with one leg crossed over the other. Opgraven sat still upon her head, his scarab-like legs folded against his body; he may be fallen, but he still had manners. She poured tea for herself, and in the cup across from her. She carried on as if nothing was happening, and briefly mused on how often she was appearing as herself lately, and not as a robed banshee. She smiled without looking at Kelri.
“If you could stop trying to break your brother’s ribcage, I wouldn’t mind trying some of your darling little cupcakes,” she said. She turned to her and tilted her head. “Oh, are you trying to force the food out? Mm, don’t bother; the cookie went down; that’s just his throat closing on him. I did warn you, Jasper, did I not?”
She sighed and shook her head, then set her chin lazily in her hand. “My dear Kelri, do join me at the table. Don’t fret over Jasper, now; his throat hasn’t closed completely. In fact, I wish to talk to you about him! I’m sure that’s a topic you’re interested in, hm?”

Kelri spun, still on the floor as she turned towards the foreign voice. Taking a moment to look upon the figure she saw a tall figure, sitting at her table, casually having tea. The figure looked like they owned the place, and Kel frowned up at the lady with a giant being that Kel wasn’t completely sure was, sitting on her head. This was her shop, and her brother, and she wasn’t going to let a god take it over. Slowly standing, Kel turned towards the person seated in her shop. Anger flickered across her face at being talked down to. “I have every right to raise my voice banshee.” She pointed to her brother who was laying on the ground not moving. “What did you do to my brother?” The panic and anger was evident in her voice, and no matter what the banshee said she would still get an angry baker.
Kelri wasn’t very happy at the moment. She wasn’t really thinking all the clearly and although in hindsight it probably wasn’t a good idea to get sassy with a goddess, she didn’t really care in that moment. Later she would look back and regret it, but right now? Kel was going all out. “I know my brother is a stupid-act-before-thinking, disrespectful being, whose lack of manners can sometimes be atrocious but he is family!” Kel huffed, taking a breath before continuing. She wasn’t going to let the goddess get off easily. “I worship you consistently and faithfully. I make sure there are always double chocolate fudge brownies in the alter for you. Something Dark and delicious at the same time. Something I thought you would like.” She grimaced before continuing. “What gives you the right to take my brother? As far as I know, he has done nothing wrong.”
Kelri bit down hard on her lip. She didn’t like this scenario. She didn’t like what was happening. Kelri shook her head at her thoughts and bit her lip at the goddesses response. “You wouldn’t mind...” Kel cut off her sentence and slowly retreated over to the back of the shop, pulling out the tray that had the cupcakes on it. The young woman walked over with the tray to the table where the goddess was sitting. Smiling ever so sweetly she tilted the tray, dumping the goods onto the table. Some of the peppermint vanilla ones landed in the tea, others scattering across the table and a peanut butter dark chocolate one landing on Neyvne’s lap. Now the entire table was covered in cupcakes. Just for the goddess. “Bring him back.” The words were out before she really knew it, and the girl glared at the goddess. “What do you mean you warned him?”
Kel’s eyes flashed with hope at the mention that the cookie went down. But then there was the mention that his throat was closing in on him. That was not good at all. “Make it stop. Make his throat stop closing in on him.” Glaring daggers at the sitting goddess Kelri shook her head taking a deep breath trying to compose herself.. “I have done nothing to upset you, aside from dumping the cupcakes on the table.” She met the goddesses eyes and held her gaze. “You messed with my family, and have the audacity to act like it doesn’t even matter.” She gave a cruel smile to the goddess. “You said you wanted the cupcakes.” The baker tilted her head before sitting at the table. “What do you want to know Banshee?” It was technically a title for the goddess, but it was awfully clear that Kelri was using it in contempt.

Welcome to your
Nevyne sipped Her tea, stone-faced, as She watched the little mortal throw her temper tantrum. It was to be expected, after all; She knew Kelri's dreams well; the little woman was an expert of her craft, and baking was just another art as far as Nevyne was concerned. And so She knew of her mama-bear attitude, and expected some level of frustration, but the fiery woman was exceeding even Her expectations. She rose an eyebrow at the sentence what gives you the right and left it up as the woman tipped the sweets onto the table, ruining the tea She had left for the mortal, and what was left in the pot.
Demands. Questions. Mortals were full of them. She certainly preferred the latter, and despite Kelri's little display, Nevyne couldn't help but smirk. The fire in this girl was respectable, if not horribly rude. She matched Kelri's smile in politeness as the girl finally calmed down enough to sit. Nevyne gently placed her cup onto its saucer, which was now covered in bits of cupcake and smears of icing.
“Those brownies are lovely,” She would say. “And your devotion is appreciated! So appreciated, in fact, that I will overlook your little outburst here; I know you're worried about dear Jasper, but do not forget to whom you speak, Kelri. I insist you listen before you next throw a tantrum, along with your lovely baked goods. I may not be so forgiving next time.”
She pulled a lacy handkerchief from the front pocket of Her classy outfit and dabbed it at the corners of Her cheeks. “Now then, Jasper,” She began, indicating the hunter who was still writhing on the floor, his hands at his neck. “Jasper was interesting to watch. Your dream wasn't the only one he managed to link to, dearest. He also linked to the lover he bedded this night, though the word may be… misleading. Oh, no, you haven't heard of her, have you? Mmm, he did keep her a secret. How strange, that a hunter would take a magi for a bedmate?” She laughed. “Perhaps forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest?”
Suddenly, the walls and counters of Sweet Nothings shifted and sank around them; only the table where they sat and the form of Jasper stayed still. They were left on a sandy dune, next to a little oasis. Nevyne took another dainty sip from Her tea and nodded towards the greenery. Nevyne would narrate the scene to Kelri.
Two figures moved along the grassy oasis; Jasper and a girl Kelri did not recognize; clearly a magi, given the horns and blue-scaled skin, and obviously young, no older than twenty. ”In their dream, they wandered a desert. Thirsty, unbearably hungry, and with no relief in sight... Until they crested the dune and found this little paradise.” Jasper was marching forward, an angry look upon his face and the magi following, struggling to keep up. Her face displayed a nervous look, one of fear. ”She tired well before him, and he grew more frustrated at her for it; he had no time for dead weight. She really only saw the tender, fun side of him until now. Now, there was plenty of water, but no food.”
Silently, Jasper turned to bark at her, and silently, she tried to defend herself in wild gestures, the look of someone who was being put at fault for something out of her control. He stormed off from her, and she timidly followed. And then, they saw it; a single red orb growing from a bush. They both made a dash for the native Surajan fruit, but... it was the size of an apple, and clearly would not be enough for both. ”Now, this surprised me. Wouldn't lovers share this? Or perhaps offer it to their partner? Jasper was usually a good man behind his idiocy, right?” There was only a short quarrel. The girl had reached the fruit first, but Jasper bowled her over, pushing her to the ground like a wild animal and taking it for himself. She scrambled to her feet and approached Jasper, desperate, but afraid; he would not let her near it. She pleaded. He growled. She reached for it, slowly, begging. He pushed her away, and retrieved his knife. The fruit had a tough skin, everyone knew, and the edible bit was inside. She stood again and approached, and he lashed at her like a starved dog. She recoiled, fearful, but… hardly surprised. Oh, how she pleaded, the desperate magi, just for a piece, a bit, a taste. It was the hunger that teetered on death. Do you understand that hunger, my dear? The animalistic hunger that brings survival over reason?
Jasper fumbled his knife against the hard fruit, dropping it at his feet. The girl reached for it, gently, her intention to return it to him, but he went for it, fiercely, and with a small struggle, ended up puncturing the chest of his young lover.
”Oh! But of course, that had to be an accident, right? A misunderstanding, a slipped movement, and a sharp object; quite the recipe for disaster, right? Oh, the poor dear... You know, she gave up her family to be with him? Mhm, they kicked her right out and told her to never come back. At least he loved her, right? He made so many promises to her! Safety, a future, a good life… as long as she did whatever he asked, of course.”
But there wasn't remorse on Jasper's face. There wasn't sorrow. He took the knife as if it were wedged in a tree instead of a person, and went to work on opening the fruit once more. He had a rabid look by this point, frustrated with the stubborn fruit, yelling and growling at it. No emotion was paid to the bleeding magi. She reached out for him, but her strength faded, and she lie motionless on the sand. With that, the scene froze, and the figures faded. Nevyne turned to Kelri, a grave look on Her face.
“So! After that little display, I appeared before dear Jasper and told him he couldn't eat anything for as long as he was here. I even took the fruit from his hand! And, I did tell him, once he stopped trying to swing a knife at me, if he didn't eat, I may just see that she didn't die. If he did, well... I warned him.”
She looked past Kelri, to the writhing form of Jasper, too busy with his predicament to watch the scene. “So when he ate your sweets, my dear, he sealed his own fate.” She tapped Her chin in thought, and then snapped Her fingers! “Oh, what a perfect thought!” She declared, and rose her hand up as if directing an orchestra to crescendo. A chain rose out of the sand, joining the two at the table. A translucent figure of the magi girl appeared in it, hands folded in her lap, sniffling, looking downwards, and seemingly unaware of the people around her.
“Her name is Hannah, by the by,” Nevyne said. “So, Kelri, because I am a gracious goddess, and because you are a faithful one, I will leave this choice to you! The dream is still ongoing; I could repair this poor girl’s soul, and let her wake come morning, leaving this to be a bad dream, and nothing more. Or, I could perhaps save Jasper’s soul instead! He could wake to a dead lover, and be free to go on killing and bedding then killing magi as he sees fit, just like he always did.”
She tilted Her head at Kelri, and wondered how far her loyalty to family went. “When a soul undergoes a death sentence in my realm, like both of our dear dreamers here, it takes no small amount of energy to undo. I’m afraid that’s why it must be a choice.” She folded her hands in her lap with a grin. No matter the answer, it was going to make things very interesting…

Oh Kelri was angry. This goddess felt entitled to things she knew nothing about. Jasper was family and family always stayed together. They always had each other’s backs, and would always protect each other. As much as she loved her family, she also knew that the banshee liked to play with people. Kelri didn’t appreciate becoming a god’s plaything. Some little sweet nothing for the god’s amusement.someone whose life held no value or meaning to a goddess. In the reality Kelri knew that she was nothing more than a mortal to the Goddess, but she wasn’t going to let a goddess just take her brother. Not when she could do anything about it.
So yes. Kelri made a display. This was her dream after all. She would have the agency to do so. Especially where her family was concerned. Kel wasn’t going to go down without a fight, and even if she appeared to be polite she was seething on the inside. She had just watched her brother basically stop breathing as apparently his throat was closing in on him. The shock of it caused her anger, and she bit her tongue thinking of the goddess who seemed to not give a flying cupcake. The goddess should have expected an outburst. It was only the normal reaction.
Kel would only stare as the Banshee answered her. She was honestly surprised that she was even talking to her. After all, she was only a lowly mortal. Fixing her gaze upon the goddess Kelri bit her tongue from giving a smart reply. She was angry yes, but she wasn’t stupid. “Glad you like em.” Even if Kel was mad at this goddess, she could appreciate if one enjoyed her sweets. They were supposed to make people smile. That was what was most important. Her food was supposed to be enjoyed, and this goddess had gone and made her ruin her dream cupcakes. She hadn’t even created a few of them in the real world yet. “You are the one who wanted cupcakes,” The mortal would mumble under her breath staring at the goddess. She was unapologetic for her actions, but the goddess didn’t seem to care. Kel motioned, her hand still covered in the oven mitts, for the goddess to talk.
If the goddess was willing to speak of Jasper, Kelri was willing to hold her tongue. She watched as the Banshee pulled out a handkerchief, that actually was kinda cute, but that wasn’t the point and dabbed at her cheeks. Kelri frowned as the Banshee spoke of Jasper’s dreams as something akin to a television or a movie for her. She was about to speak out on the matter but that was before the goddess mentioned what she did. “His what?” Kel raised an eyebrow and looked over to her brother. He was keeping secrets all right. “He... he would never.” Kel’s anger turned into a complete shock. Her hunter brother would never sleep with a magi, let alone have a girlfriend. Getting a sense of dread, that began to funnel in her stomach, Kelri looked over to her brother. “Oh Jasper, what have you done?” Turning to look at the Banshee Kelri shook her head. “Even if he was keeping secrets, he still deserves a second chance. Please, bring me my brother back.”
As Kelri would start to say this, her surroundings would shift. The once familiar walls of Sweet Nothings faded away into a sandy dune, with a small gathering of trees and a little pond in the middle. It was an absolute oasis in this dream, and Kel envied those who would be able to find it in the dreamscape. “Beautiful...” The shifted dreamscape really was, and Kel had never seen a desert like this. Instead, she had spent most of her time in Felici, with an occasional stint in Dagos when she was visiting her brother. Kelri had never been in a desert before, and she was taking in the scene as the Banshee started to narrate.
Kelri could only watch as the scene unfolded in front of her. She raised her eyebrows at the sight of the magi woman, genuinely surprised at Jaspers... tastes. The woman was very pretty but what in the world was Jasper doing with a magi? That legitimately sounded like he was going against everything that the guild preached. If the guild ever found out, her brother would most certainly die. More so than in the dream, as well as it would have a huge impact on her family. Especially if they were at all disgraced. Goodness the look on her mother’s face would not be a very nice thing, let alone her father's. Kelri didn’t really care if Jasper had a magi lover, she had nothing against magi, but she was seriously worried for this girl. Especially if she didn’t know that Jasper was a hunter. How could she not know though? “Why are you showing me this?” Kelri was legitimately confused. She didn’t understand but the look on her brother’s face Kelri knew well. Gods, he looked angry. It seemed that Jasper had inherited their father’s temperament.
Which was not a good thing for the Magi woman that seemed to be following her brother into this oasis. As someone who had experienced her father’s anger before Kelri knew how severe it could get. Hidden behind that perfect public image was a man who could be downright nasty. Kelri normally kept quiet about this, and she doubted that the banshee cared, why would she? But Kel was worried for the Magi. Kel watched, trying to keep from wincing as the struggle for the fruit happened in her vision and dreamscape. Kelri’s face flushed as the banshee showed her just how... stupid her brother had been. “I...” kelri didn’t have an answer for the goddess. Normally one would think so, but given her brothers little... ideas, it would be evident that he would try to take it for himself. “My brother isn’t the kindest.” The words would be whispered to the goddess, anger gone from her voice, and only pity and regret fading in. Kelri could only shake her head down, the sadness seeping in. She knew that as a hunter her brother was inherently cruel, but as her brother, he was a good person. This duality was one of the reasons Kel prayed for her brother’s soul. Now she would have another to pray for, the female magi’s.
Glancing over at the Banshee, Kelri shook her head. “Is this not your domain, do you not shape dreams, and nightmares? Is this not a situation of your own creation?” Kelri may not have understood the hunger, but she knew this scenario was of the Nightmare Queen’s making. “You do this for fun.” It was a statement, not a question that left the lips of the baker. “You are the one who put them in this situation, you did it for the reaction.” The anger started to return to the young woman’s eyes before she glanced back over at the scene.
Kelri watched, helpless as her brother murdered an innocent woman in front of her. She had tried moving into the dream, to stop her brother from plunging the knife into the woman. She tried, but she found herself stuck in the seat she was in, unable to move. Helpless. This was the main word, as she could only stare. The woman would look over to the banshee, tears in her eyes shaking her head. “Why are you doing this? Why do you show me these things?” She didn’t understand how she had offended the goddess enough to have her torture her like this. Wasn’t she faithful? Wasn’t she dutiful? And yet, it obviously wasn’t enough for the goddess. Why else would she show Kelri her brother murdering a young magi woman?
As the goddess continued to do, what can only be described as goading Kelri on, she began to cry. The tears welled up in the corner of her green eyes, and it was made apparent that Kelri was upset. “Stop. You don’t have to show me any more.” She bit her lip, not daring to look at the goddess. “I get it.” She shook her head as she refused to look at the scene in front of her. She refused to look at the body of a woman who had once had a future ahead of her.
Instead, she looked over towards her brother, the one who wasn’t stark mad. The one who was...lying there, desperate as his throat closed in on him. Why had he done it, she knew he had goodness in him, she knew, but this. This was too much. She glanced up as Jasper took the knife out, like the skilled hunter he was, and began to carve into the fruit. Of course he wouldn’t pay any attention to the woman, to Jasper, she knew that he felt like a magi’s life was worthless. Kel was an avid believer that all lives had purpose, and what you chose to do with it really truly mattered. To see her brother reduced to nothing more than an animalistic instinct, she could only cry.
And so the goddess would turn to a crying Kelri, holding her oven-mitted hands up to her face. She hadn’t wanted to see this, she hadn’t wanted to go this route. She had just wanted her sweets to be cooked properly and for people to enjoy them. Now she was paying for her brother’s mistakes and temperament. How could her brother be so stupid. How could he be such an imbecile? She looked towards the wriggling body and started to cry more. She was full on crying now, red face, puffy cheeks, and snot dripping out of her nose. “So it’s my fault for feeding him.” Yes this was the lesson that Kelri was getting out of this whole scenario. IT was most certainly her fault. After all, if he hadn’t taken her sweets, then two people would be alive, and neither would be dying or dead, cursed never to continue their reincarnation cycle.
Her thought was echoed by the goddess in the next moment. She was saying how it was her cookies that had choked her brother, leading him to his current predicament. The sweet baker shook her head and tried to stop crying, ultimately failing. “What?” Kelri stared, tears streaming down her cheeks, as chains rose out the sand, bringing both her brother and this poor magi to be chained to the table. She didn’t understand what the goddess wanted of her, and when a translucent version of the magi girl appeared at the table, Kelri shook her head. “I’m begging you... stop.” She didn’t want to face this poor girl, or her soul. How could she when it was her brother who had done these horrible things to this girl, taken, abused her, ad ultimately killed her. Kelri was in quite a predicament herself.
Kelri didn’t understand quite the predicament she was in until the goddess said the magi woman’s name. It was in that moment Kel felt herself become physically ill. She leaned over the side of her chair and threw up, vomit encasing the small part of the desert sand dune. She could barely hear what the goddess was asking of her, and she knew that it wasn’t good, not from the glee in Goddesses voice. Wiping her mouth with her oven-mitted hand, Kelri looked down, feeling completely useless and helpless. She was being asked an impossible question. One that she shouldn’t have to be asked in the first place.
Either choice she made, was of no consequence to the goddess. To the goddess Kelri was sure that she cared little for the souls that she killed in her realm. After all, there was a reason she was called a banshee, a monster who heralded death. Wherever the banshee was, death was sure to follow. What did it matter who died as long as someone did. How cruel that was. Kelri kept quiet, thinking.
If she were to save her brother’s soul, he would be returned and their family complete again. She would continue to pray for his soul and those that he hunted. She would live life as normal. Everything would return to a place of normalcy and Kelri wouldn’t be held accountable for her choice. Her brother would even probably congratulate her. Her first magi-kill. There had been dinners she had to attend directly in that honor before. Each time they would find a somber Kelri. She loved her family, but right now, she held life in her hands.
In her other metaphorical hand was a young magi woman, barely old enough to be of a consent age, who didn’t have a choice in this. Her brother had stolen everything from her. He had taken her freedom, hope, and even family. That last part broke her heart, as it was such an important part of her own life. Family. It was her driving force, and Kelri knew that this would not end well either way. Changing a glance up at the blue skinned magi Kelri shook her head and curled her fists in the oven mitts. Hannah just looked so sad, so betrayed, and so... lifeless.
This wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair of the banshee to ask this of her, and Kelri knew that this choice should only be left to Tatara. He was the only one really capable of knowing what to do in this scenario, and she thought a silent prayer.
Tatara, I know this is not your domain, I understand, but I need your wisdom and help. I’m being made to choose between my brother, who has taken countless lives, and an innocent Magi whom he has fooled into thinking he loved her.. What should I do. What would you do?
Kelri let the thought take place in her brain, taking the time. What would he do? He could have found a way to save both of them. Both of them could have been freed, safe, alive. Crying out in pain Kelri looked towards the goddess “Why do you ask me to choose? Why must you make me carry this burden.”
The problem was that Kelri knew that the right thing was to do. She knew what she should do, but that would mean breaking her mother’s heart. Disappointing her father. Dealing with all her siblings. She would truly be at fault then. Kelri would have allowed her brother’s death to happen, when she had a choice. Family or a random magi named Hannah who had an entire future in front of her that was robbed by an Anderson.
One way or another Kel would have to live with her choice and looking up at the goddess she stared. What sort of creature would do this to one of her loyal followers? Give her follower an option between the death of an innocent and the death of a murderer. Even if that murderer was her brother, Kelri was not okay with this choice. “Never ask this of me again Banshee.” With those words the sigh would erupt from Kelri’s lips and she would hunch over, her voice returning, barely above a whisper. “Save the magi girl. Save...” Kelri bit her lip, not wanting to say the name. “Save Hannah.”
With this Kelri would fall silent. She would become unresponsive, and curl up into herself. She had to choose, and this wasn’t fair. For the rest of her mortal life Kelri would have to live with the fact that she killed her brother.

Welcome to your
Nevyne would maintain a neutral and silent demeanor as Kelri spoke, pleaded, assumed, questioned… She would address this in time. For now, She would let the girl squirm; she may be an artist, and somewhat faithful, but right now she was arrogant and angry, and needed to learn her place. Nevyne would, after all, only tolerate so much disrespect; skill and loyalty meant nothing if you spoke beyond your station. With a simply clap at Kelri’s decision, the soul would fade away, and so would Jasper’s movements, until he lie completely still.
“How interesting,” Nevyne said. She twirled her finger, and Kelri’s chair would suddenly spin down, drilling into the shifting sands until she was buried up to her neck. “Now. You have a bad habit of speaking without listening, without thinking. Honestly, I would never expect this level of disrespect from you of all mortals, Kelri Anderson! But perhaps it is because I am not your patron that you believe you can simply… get away with these little outbursts.”
If Kelri would try to speak at any point, a wind would whip up and spray sand into her mouth and face. It was time for her to listen. Nevyne would laugh and summon up a fresh teapot from thin air. “Ah, and let’s talk about your patron, shall we? I suppose I should not be surprised at your ignorance; that peach-addict’s little priests tell all sorts of tales about me.” She then put her hands on her hips and puffed out her chest, lowering her voice as if a child were mocking a parent. “’Watch out for that banshee, she’s only there to torture us! All nightmares are Her fault! Pray to Her otherwise She’ll eat your children. Bluh blah blah bluh.’ Really, have you ever visited my faithful for a nice chat? No; you close your ears and believe whatever Taters wishes you to believe, stopping only long enough to leave an offering and move on with your day.”
With a fresh cup of tea, She stood up and paced around Kelri’s sunken form. “Dreams and nightmares are products of your memories and your soul, given form by the magic inherent in this place. Do you understand, Kelri? Not all of your pleasant dreams, nor gut-wrenching nightmares, have felt my touch. I did not form this specific dream, nor did I guide your bubbles to intertwine. No, your brother’s actions would not have changed; I simply observed, as I graciously allowed you to do as well. Truly, are you so naïve as to believe he would not have killed her to save himself back on the mortal plane? To believe I was the one to force his hand?”
She sat down next to Kelri’s head, Her knees together and leaning to one side. “I graciously allow mortals an escape from their harsh lives by inviting them into my home. And yet I get so very little respect for it! Imagine, if you would, if customers visited your quaint little shop and never said ‘thank you,’ never smiled, never happily talked about their favorite little bakery to others; just the opposite, in fact; they even curse the name ‘Sweet Nothings.’” She turned to look down at the mortal. “Sometimes you give them a bad batch, or a sub-par creation, or something they dislike, and sometimes mortals have nightmares.”
“Also,” She said, Her voice growing darker and Her eyes shifting to orange. “Never will you again make demands of me. I offered you the chance to save a life, rather than let both die, and you treated it as a curse. My patience for you is running out, Ms. Anderson.”
With that, the wind of the desert would die down, and Kelri would be allowed to speak once more.

Sweet talkin' lady, love how you entice. Sugar, with just the right amount of spice

Kelri wasn’t an all knowing goddess. She wasn’t omniscient. She didn’t have all the answers. She was a mortal, and as such, mortals were justified in questioning gods. Mortals weren’t divine, they didn’t have powers. Why did gods and goddesses choose to play with mortals if not for their own amusement. Mortal’s knew their place all too well, and as such Kelri knew her place all too well. Still, mortals had passion, they had life, they had love. Love drew mortals to do questionable acts, even in the presence of gods. Kelri loved her brother, and she loved her family.
This of course made her decision all the more nerve-wracking. Kelri had chosen to kill her brother to save an innocent life and this choice would haunt her for the rest of her life, and the guilt she would face from her family would eat at her. It was the goddesses fault this was happening, that she had given Kelri a choice, if only to be entertained. With a snap of the goddesses fingers the soul was released, and Kelri couldn’t hold back the tears. Just as suddenly the curled up girl was down into the sands that made up the dunes they were sitting on. Still crying she looked up at the goddess, her tear stained face catching the sands in the wind as it blew.
Kelri would only try to speak once, and once would be it. She would listen to the goddess speak and bite her lip in response. Whatever the goddess would say about Tatara would be interesting certainly, but it wouldn’t change her view or mindset. Kelri was a firm believer in Tatara’s powers, and his divine right to a soul. When Nevyne harbored and stole them, she took them from their natural order and state. This was not right, and Nevyne was the cause of it. Kelri shook her head when asked if she had ever visited the priests of Nevyne. She had seen no reason to, as she felt like if she was faithful in her belief and terror, she didn’t need to be told half truths.
Kelri’s eyes watched as the banshee paced in front of her and her crying stopped for a brief time given the situation. After all, she got to hear the banshee’s point of things. It was only fair of her to be respectful and listen. After all, she didn’t want to come across as rude, especially given the banshee could smite her at any point. What she was saying was shocking and kelri averted her gaze. If that was true Jasper had dreamt this up all on his own, and had killed the magi all of his own accord. She knew that the banshee was truthful in saying he would have slain the magi girl to save himself. She was surprised this had gone on for as long as it had, given that he was a hunter. Perhaps that was why it had happened in the first place. Jasper did have a superiority complex. The frown that was evident on the baker’s face would let the goddess know that Kelri was listening, at the very least.
Kelri shifted her gaze so she would look to the banshee when she sat. She was listening. She was taking it in, and she was trying to understand. Mortals knew not of dreams belonging to anyone, of realms existing from the gods. I the gods didn’t explain why things were as they were, how were they to expect that mortals would understand? Kelri was honestly confused about this and wanted to understand, but she wasn’t going to ask. Nevyne was explaining, and this was a rare occurrence. It was not known for Gods to explain, so kelri kept her mouth shut and didn’t speak. If what the goddess was saying was true, then it would be apparent that she had offended the mistress of the dream realm. Which would in turn make Kelri shift her gaze as to stare at the sand.
It was only when the voice turned darker that she glance up at the goddess, shaking her hand. The goddess had misunderstood her. She hadn’t said a demand, it was a plea. It was Kelri plea-ing never to be put into a place of power over someone’s life again. The goddess had to understand that, she just had to. If not, then Kelri didn’t know what to do. She looked up towards the goddess wanting to speak, but she didn’t know if it was allowed yet., Instead she would just keep quiet. Kelri looked down again as she was told the goddesses patience was running out. That wasn’t good at all.
When the wind died down Kelri looked towards the woman, chancing a stuttering voice towards the goddess. “I...” Kelri wouldn’t go any further until she was sure that the wind would not blow sand into her mouth. “I... never meant to offend you...” her eye would wince, and shake her head. “Well I did at first, mainly because I didn’t understand the situation.” Kelri would look down and then look up at the Goddess again. “I am sorry that I offended you.” Apologies first, then explanations. “I was not aware of how the dream realm worked, and am shocked you would explain it to me.” She looked down again, and bit her lip. “I’m sorry that I have lived my life in fear of you and your followers. My grandfather was lost in your realm, and so I have been faithful for fear of being chastised like he was.” she looked towards the oasis and sighed. “Now I see he was probably at fault as well. You do not strike me as the type to just kill someone for pleasure, and without reason.”
“I never meant to make demands of you goddess, so I apologize if my pleas came across as such. You placed me in a delicate situation, and showed me a harsh reality of truth. I was given a choice yes, and many would have graciously accepted, but you made me choose between family and an innocent and I never wanted to. This being said...” The baker would look up towards the goddess, “Thank you for giving me the option to save someone’s life.” She would hold her head down staring at the sand again. With the choice she was able to save an innocent magi’s life, something that she never could have done in the normal world, with the sociopolitical standpoint being what it was.
“Is there anything that you would like in my future worships of you?” She whispered this, somewhat thrown into submission, acknowledging her wrongs. “Do you enjoy the dark chocolate brownies?”

Welcome to your
Not one to be a hypocrite, Nevyne would be the one to sit and listen without speaking. She considered every small movement by the mortal, every hesitation, every change in tone or pace. There were a number of apologies, explanations (which she did not care for), and then… A smile creased her lips, and a gentle laugh rolled from them. She twirled her hand, and a throne of carved sandstone would rise from underneath her, raising her ten feet from the ground. At the same time, Kelri’s dainty chair would spin up, releasing her from her sandy prison. The goddess looked down at the mortal, tapping her index fingers together in thought.
“Ah, now there’s the open mind I am familiar with. It’s amazing the things you realize when you hear both sides, isn’t it? I do hope you continue on this path of open-mindedness and humility, my dear Kelri. I am glad you are one of the few mortals willing to open their ears to everyone.” A breeze would sweep by and brush off any loose sand on Kelri’s person. “You should know as well as anyone that life is full of difficult and unpleasant choices.”
She hummed in thought for a few moments, shifting which leg was crossed over the other and lazily bouncing her foot. Her eyes looked upward towards Opgraven. “Hmm, what’s that, Oppy dear?” She frowned at whatever conversation they may be having. “You would, hm? I see.” Her eyes shifted to Kelri for a moment, then back upwards to Opgraven. “Of course I trust you! Oh, very well. There is wisdom to that.”
She nodded and turned once more to Kelri, smiling wide with her long, sharklike teeth (a polite smile, not a menacing one, by her standards). “The brownies are wonderful, dear. Do keep them up; you are a master of your art, and at such a young age! I am eager to see your future, dear. But now I will give you one more choice.”
She uncrossed her legs and lay across her throne as if it were a couch, never losing her Cheshire smile. “Your first option, as a show of good faith, is to view the dream of any person you wish on this night. Name them, and I shall take you to their mind’s theater. Or, you may form an agreement with me. The terms are simple; spend time among my faithful- talk to them, worship with them, be kind to them and expand your mind. Spend time with them! They could always use more friends, after all. Do this, and I shall release dear Jasper’s soul from my realm, where he may freely choose to enter the realm of your Patron.”

Sweet talkin' lady, love how you entice. Sugar, with just the right amount of spice
| ◀ | [attr="class","PrettyInPink"]
Kelri would go through the grueling process of self-reflection and would think about how this wasn’t anything she asked for. She didn’t know why this goddess had decided to take an interest in her and her family, and she didn’t know why it was so important to the goddess to teach her these things. Kelri really didn’t understand and it wasn’t in her purview, she supposed to try and understand. She looked warily at the goddess as she laughed. Maybe all kelri was was entertainment for the goddess of nightmares. At least she was amusing. If she was amusing she wasn’t going to die.
Kelri would test the free movement that would be allowed to her once her chair was loose. She would shake her arms, trying to get all the loose sand up off of her clothes, and it was then that the gentle breeze would rise. She paid very close attention to the goddesses words and bit her lip to keep from making a smart remark. That wouldn’t do in the presence of a goddess. She nodded at the affirmation of the open mind. Kelri certainly hoped she was open minded, and she did try to hear from both sides of the story. Her family had blinded her and she knew that logically. “I was just... unaware that you would even ask it of me.” She really didn’t understand why.
Kelri stood, rigid, not wanting to incur the goddess's wrath yet again, by doing something she didn’t want her to. As Nevyne looked up and Kelri realized what was on the head of the banshee she stiffened. Had she forgotten to greet another god? That wouldn’t do. After Nevyne finished talking Kelri gave a low and formal bow. “I apologize that I did not greet you sooner, Please forgive my insolence.” This would be directed towards the parasite’s form. She didn’t know what they-Nevyne and Opgraven had conversed about, but she knew enough not to ask. If the parasite had earned Nevyne’s trust it would mean that they must be of high rank, and very important. “I’m afraid I do not know of which name to call you.” Kelri kept her head low but peeked a glance up at the goddess on her throne. “Forgive my rudeness.”
Kelri briefly chanced a smile up to the goddess on the throne. She was glad that the goddess liked her brownies, and that she was more than willing to continue to make them for her. Kelri knew she was good at what she did, even if in a dream realm she wouldn’t be able to get the oven mitts off. “Thank you...” The smile slowly died down off of her face as she heard the rest of the goddesses options. Was she going to make Kelri choose someone else’s life? What was this choice? This choice that Kelri was sure she was not going to be happy with either way, but she had no control over. Either way it was at the Goddesses whim. Kelri listened quietly as she waited for the choice to be presented by Nevyne.
Kelri would watch as the goddess would sprawl out on the throne. It was her realm after all, she could sprawl however she wanted. The grin though, the grin was what had Kelri held in a state of dread. Carefully listening kelri made sure to keep her face neutral through the first part of the comment. The goddess was offering any dream? There was really none that Kelri had wanted to view, none that Kelri would be eager to view. Kelri had her own dreams, and didn’t need to interrupt into others. Then, the the second deal came.
Kelri couldn’t believe her ears, she was being told that her brother’s soul would be released? To pass on? That... Kelri started to cry again and sniffled and looked up towards the goddess. “You would be so... generous?” Kelri really couldn’t believe that the goddess would let a soul escape from her realm- no grant it the ability to move outwards and onto its next life in the reincarnation cycle. Everything Kelri had known from Tatara was in contradiction to this, and she honestly couldn’t believe it. The only reason she could think of that Nevyne would let Jasper’s soul go, would be of entertainment value to her.
Now Kelri wasn’t sure what to believe as her emotions had gone on a rollercoaster the entire night. It was only time before she would look up. “If I can save my brother’s soul I will.” She would slump down to her knees with this admission and look up at the goddess, before looking down at her oven-mitted hands and crying into them. “Thank you...” would be the words repeated, and said in hushed tones. Those two words would be the ones that Kelri would just say as much as she could to get her point across. “I... I will gladly visit your temples if it meant letting my brother’s soul continue in the reincarnation cycle.”

Welcome to your
Nevyne hummed pleasantly. "He does not mind; any greeting given to me is a greeting to him." She looked up at him. "His proper name is Opgraven, but he respectfully requests that no separate prayer be given to his name, nor his name shared upon the mortal plane. See that you honor his wish, Ms. Anderson."
She considered the baker before her; it seemed she learned respect through a mixture of fear and enlightenment. Nevyne did not care which, so long as they were faithful and respectful. A strong-willed mortal like Kelri would defy fear, and it was… refreshing, to see one that responded so readily to new information. Perhaps she was but one mortal, but with her faith to Tatara, and her ability to reach out to others, perhaps… Perhaps they could learn to do more than fear her. She smiled. Ooh, that imp would simply hate that.
She nodded slowly as the girl wept. “Mortals think they know so much of us, and yet how can you? There are more to us than you can ever perceive, and such is why I would request you to spend time among my own worshippers.” She waved her hand. “I am not malevolent hoarder of souls. If this is your choice, then he shall be released to the mortal plane, where your Patron may do his work as usual.”
Of course it would be; She had expected no less from the charitable mortal. With a flourish of her hands, the entire area was filled with a deep chill for but a moment, disappearing as soon as it came. The sands would shift, hardening into a soft yet firm ground, a flat tiling made of intricately carved sandstone. The nearby Oasis would flourish with vibrant greenery and blooming flowers. Exotic and foreign fruits would emerge from trees and bushes.
“Then it is done. I do hope you will find your time among my followers to be an enlightening one, dear Kelri. And do keep up on your art, hm?” She laughed and clapped her hands once. Finally, Kelri would be able to free herself from the mitts stuck upon her hands. “Now, dear, I am needed elsewhere. You may relax here for the rest of your slumber, or interrupt your sleep by submerging your face in the oasis waters. We’ll be in touch! Ahuhuhu~”
With a small flourish of her hands, her form dissipated into a dark mist, along with her throne, leaving Kelri alone with the oasis; her brother’s body was no longer there, and the table and tea had also disappeared sometime during their conversation. All that was left was the vibrant area in the middle of the desert and a light wind to caress her hair.
