Many years ago, Serina used to be one of the top class hunters of the Organization, her skills and battle prowess were almost close to flawless. Even though she may have wielded a simple lance, she can block against fast moving projectiles like gun bullets or arrows, even a bullet fired from a powerful sniper rifle was deflected by her level of skill. She's well versed in both offensive and defensive styles of combat and those who challenged her for the title of Kalidas' Lance were defeated. Even if one were to use a hybrid weapon, Serina would pierce through to victory.
She would have been great if not for her decision to quit the organization altogether.
Many of the hunters have no idea why she decided to quit, not even her student Culan would know. Heck nobody expected Serina to even take in a student before. When Culan finally came to the Hunter's Organization, Serina wasn't heard from since. Nobody even knows where she is right now, not her family or her fellow hunters.
On this day, Culan is currently honing his skills with the art of spear. He was a natural at it a proud hunter indeed. He stood up twirling his lance for all to notice and see, Culan is looking for someone to spar with as he needs experience. So far, the only things Culan knows is hunting unarmed targets but he wanted to see how far he can go against armed targets. Serina did told Culan that he was capable of catching up to her but not to the point that he can go beyond just yet. After all he needs to acquire a lot of flavors.
"Anyone wanna spar? I don't bite."

Archaleos had never had a senior Hunter to show him the ropes of the organization, that was an unfortunate fact, but practice and tutors in the art of the sword did well enough to lend him some of the skills he would need. Defending, attacking, treating one's weapon like an extension of your very self. His current weapon (dubbed Azriel) had only been in his hands for the year he'd been enlisted at the Hunter's Guild and one could call him quite ambitious when it came to honing his skills. It wasn't odd to find the teen off practicing when there was a lull between missions. And today was one of such times. A yawn leaked out from his lungs as Archaleos walked out into the spacious training area and he pushed his palms skyward in a leisurely stretch, working a bit of the tension from his shoulders in preparation for some exercise. He'd forgo his favorite coat for times like these, leaving him in short sleeves for maximum range of motion. Normally, running through the motions of some basic strikes and parries made up his training regimen, but what was this? Someone inquiring about a sparring partner? The notion brought a bright crook of a grin to the male's features since, frankly, having a moving target always made for more entertainment. Actually putting his skills to the test. ❝I'll take you up on that offer. ❞ Said with no slight amount of cheer as Archaleos drew his sword in a flash of quicksilver and gave it a little flourish with robotic fingers.0000 WORDS | | @paracelsus | | SHORT NOTE |

The blade on his spear disappears and was put away, now he is currently holding a simple pole as to ensure that he doesn't hurt anyone while they spar and fortunately he found a good old sparring body. He turned towards the young lad with mechanized fingers and a sharp sword, he grimaced and pulled out a cigar, hugging the spear as he puffed a smoke. "A swordsman eh? Well then, let's see how you do." Culan had to take account that there are enhancements added to this young hunter, regardless of how he managed to get them he'd careless.
"You know me as one of the Lancers of Kalidas, Culan Ulster, now your name laddie?"
He puffed a few more before throwing the cigar away and stepping on it to put out the spark burning in the nicotine. He twirled his pole up and caught it with his hands. "Well then, I better do my best not to allow that blade to cut me or I may end up trying on prosthetic as well." He memorized the length of his blade and stared right at him but not the weapon itself. The best part is that the weather wasn't even windy.
With one step, he dashed and covered the distance in a mere second, kneeling down and cleaved in an attempt to trip him down, followed by an attempt to poke his head.

No sharp bits? Ah now that was a kindness, he'd have to try and avoid slicing the other Hunter too bad in payment for the courtesy. Unfortunately Archaleos' sword didn't come with a "no ouchies" setting. ❝Archaleos Durent,❞ He replied with one arm held across his midsection in what resembled the beginning of a bow. Always proper, always polite. ❝Just a Hunter such as yourself.❞ The teen was familiar with most of the members of the Guild, at least by name, and Archaleos could say that he'd heard of this man and his prowess with a lance. A definite challenge, and honestly he was interested in squaring off against such an unusual weapon. Whether he won or not didn't matter all too much. Either way, Culan's next comment drew a crooked grin from Archaleos as he held his sword ready for the action ahead. ❝I will try not to cost you any limbs.❞ There was no time for any more banter, though, as the spar had began. Archaleos was quick enough to dance backwards out of range of the sweep at his legs, but when he lunged back forwards to strike his own blade clashed against the pole jabbing straight for his head. The two weapons slid against each other in a rough scrape of sound— a whiz of air brushing past Archaleos' ear —leaving the Hunters locked in close until the younger of the two brought up one metal forearm to try and knock the spear away. The motion was followed by another swing at Culan's midsection— with the flat of his blade, of course, it would be messy to land a cut to such a vital area. 0000 WORDS | | @paracelsus | | SHORT NOTE |

Well one thing is for certain, he is quick with his hand, there are a few rules in engagement against a sword and that's something Culan was taught, one is that one handed weapons can easily strain the wrist at it channels the force of the swing. If its a two handed weapon then its much stronger but for inexperienced fighters, two handed weapons can deliver strong strikes but for novices it leaves an opening. They were both pushing at each other until Durant tried to knock off the pole he's wielding but such as the rule of two handed weapons, strikes are expected to be stronger and they aren't easily disarmed.
He stabbed the pole to the ground and the sword was parried.
Now it was time to liven things up a bit, simple strikes and attempted pokes will only draw his sparring buddy closer to him so there was one thing left to do.He had to harass the noobie by simply twirling his lance and making three strike per instance, two were pokes directed to target his shoulders and one was a diagonal strike, afterwards he would twirl his lance as by means of his defense. This were to continue on for a few more tries until he drew his pole back like a pool stick and poked him with the intent of poking his stomach which would be a surprise attack. The idea for his attack was simply to test his defenses, the pole or simply the lance is a mid ranged weapon and would more or less have the advantage given its range, defending against three consecutive strikes from a poke per instance is good practice for swordsmanship but the bad part about it is that if a swordsman is able to read the pattern of a repetitive attack they would be more or less mesmerized and conditioned to defend from such technique and nothing else.
Fighting is about conditioning your opponent not just clashing your blades as well as awareness. The more alert, the more sharper the reflexes. Though for someone who has a bionic arm they wouldn't have much trouble handling the force of the swing.
"HAAH!" He did so while keeping an eye out for his blade, his bionic forearm and his eyes. But from that simple surprise, its noted that he's capable of drawing the spear back like it was a pool stick.

It was true that wielding a sword with some real heft to it (even with an abundance of experience) was tiring on the arms and wrists, but that's where the advantage of flesh replaced with steel really shone. Archaleos needn't worry about the flexibility and strength of his joints and he could also pay less heed to the danger of pain being used to disarm him. Rap someone's knuckles with a wooden pole and they might just drop their weapon. Such a tactic was far less effective when you couldn't feel pain in your hands.
Culan seemed wholly uninterested in trying to disarm him, though, instead focusing on driving Archaleos back into a range that made it hard for the teen to retaliate. A good tactic, because it was working. Impact vibrations practically radiated up his entire arm when the swing of his sword was solidly blocked and a tension crept into Archaleos' expression as he was met with the challenge of the lance's range— eyebrows furrowing, lips pressing into a thin line, grip tightening on Azriel's hilt. The warm, yellow glow of his right eye (a telltale sign that it was activating) shone into life to focus on the weapon jabbing at him in quick succession and, though the was no spectacular computing ability involved, it did assist him some in reacting to the strikes. Clearing up the movement, but leaving it up to him to react.
Yes he was managing to dodge and parry the majority of the attacks, but Archaleos was having a tough time getting back into range. His sword was far from able to stretch the length of Culan's spear and that left him taking more risks to try and beat the other Hunter's long range guard. Dodge, parry, poke. Ow. Archaleos hissed quietly as a jab caught him right under the shoulder. Dancing with all these quick strikes wasn't working so, after biding his time to watch the pattern, the swordsman again tried to block with one arm and buy himself time to slide in close. That was one advantage he had: it took more time to yank a pole in from long to short range than to swing up a sword. Archaleos just had to duck enough jabs so he could strike at Culan again. This time his aim was down at the other's knees. 0000 WORDS | | @paracelsus | | SHORT NOTE |

Well in all honesty, Culan wasn’t being a bit fair to the noobie having to use this technique to condition him, this was a suppression technique he learned as Serina’s student, in comparison to a rifle, this was just a mere “Burst fire mode” in a form of melee combat with the spear. He’s good at reading patterns and that was exceptional, the part about him having some prosthetics had given him advantage when it comes to standoffs. Though there was supposedly a “Full auto suppression” technique with the lance, he’d look like some kind of bully to the newbie, that’s why he went for the quick huge poke.
It was a relief to know that this lad isn’t mesmerized by having been conditioned to defend from a single attack pattern or dodge it even, there were a few mistakes and if Culan were to draw the stinger, Durant would have completely lose control on one arm, whether he had that prosthetic or not.
The dangerous thing about spears is that the moment they sink deep into flesh, how they are pulled out was more dangerous than being poked by them, unlike a sword thrust, the moment the spear thrusts through the body, pulling it would result in a damage artery or having muscle fibers torn and pulled out from the hole, blood spurts a bit more from a poke that a cleave of the blade or a simple blade thrust. Swords do not have the tendency to pull muscle fibers out and only spears, as spears were meant to “pierce” not “cut” as swords do.
Culan knew that, he withdrew the stinger before their spar even began and killing them or giving them a reason to get another prosthetic would make him quite much of an arse.
His attempt to poke him was blocked and Aeon simply slid down with an attempt to sweep him off balance. Though Culan was quick on his feet, Aeon’s method worked and succeeded in throwing him off, Culan had bad footing causing trip and fell on his buttock and had let go of the pole before scratching his head.
People were chuckling that Culan was beaten by a newbie in a spar. He didn’t mind that at all and would only chuckle himself. “Well, looks like I underestimated you and you managed to throw me off even if your weapon didn’t hit me.” If this was a battle to the death, Durant would have killed Culan then and there.
Of course now his status as a contender to become “Kalidas’ Lance” is in jeopardy since someone from the higher authority saw Culan’s mistake but by observing Culan, it hasn’t crossed his mind to rob him of his contender status.
“Well guess I didn’t bully a newbie today!” He stood up with his poke which was stabbed to the ground before he lost his footing and fell. “You’re pretty cool kid.”

blood on my name THERE'S A RECKONING A COMING, IT BURNS BEYOND THE GRAVE It was evident that Archaleos hadn't really expected his second attack to bear fruit since, as soon as his swing was carried through, the young Hunter's sword had quickly been brought back up in preparation for more. His stance was still set for another swing, a blow to parry— yet there was none to come. That was a flash of good fortune, catching Culan off balance. So he'd won this round. The glow of Archaleos' eye faded out (no longer needed) and his sword bearing hand dropped loosely at his side as he watched the other male get back on his feet. ❝Yes, somehow I managed.❞ Came the reply, colored in bright amusement just before he decided to simply slide his weapon back into its sheathe. More training might be penciled in for the day but Archaleos would at least be taking a break after this go. ❝Thank you, though. I'm honored to hear that you think so and, frankly, it was exhilarating to get to try my sword against a weapon like yours.❞ All of this was said with full honesty since Archaleos really did appreciate praise for his skills. Especially from an experienced peer. It was... gratifying, which showed in the pleased grin he sported until a round of chuckles broke free. ❝If you hadn't nixed the blade I think I might have needed to extend my prosthetic to the shoulder.❞ Yeah that spot he'd been jabbed at would be sore for a day or two. With his dominant hand freed up, the teen next saw fit to reach out and offer a handshake to Culan. Courtesy, of course. ❝Maybe you will have better luck next time.❞ 0000 WORDS | | @paracelsus | | SHORT NOTE |

He chuckled with a grin grabbing Durant's hand and had spectators clap with his victory. If Culan was something, he's humble in defeat, it was good exercise for him as a matter of fact, its been awhile since he went up against a swordsman since most of his training involves dodging and defending from the four elements. Culan waved off and sat by a bench, putting away his pole to rest as a lot of sparring partners come to challenge Durant.
The receptionist came to Culan and giggled. "Boy he did showed you huh?"
"He's got potential to become stronger and probably would have more bloodlust than me." He drew a cigar and started to smoke. "I noticed your pole was stabbed to the ground as you tried to dodge his blade off..." She said.
"You know you could have done that circus trick when a Lancer looses his footing so why didn't you? You just risked your chance to become a contender of Kalidas's lance, even the higher ranks were watching you fall like that."
Culan blew another cloud of smoke and stared off into space. "I don't know perhaps maybe I didn't want to become some kind of newbie crusher? People will look down on me trying to beat the hell out of a newbie even if he did answered my challenge." But there was one thing that surprised him and that was that Durant was able to find a way to break through the suppression technique Culan used on many of his sparring buddies before, he's probably the first newbie to plunge himself and break it risking his own safety of being hit.
No.. he knew the window of opportunity from the beginning.
"Hey.. can I get a read on the kid's file? I need to know a bit about this Durant, he learned basics but it seems that he has some experiencing fighting armed warriors." That was the thing that he noticed about Durant or was he wrong to believing in that guess he made up just now?
"Sure, just go to the Archive hall yourself" The receptionist knew that Culan wanted her to go and get it but she ain't doing it. "Aaaww.. come on I'm tired already, can you do it for me?"
"Cut with the act Culan, a spar like that doesn't tire you even though that I'm glad you didn't bully him." She smiled as she walked back towards the help desk. She so happened to be on her coffee break when she saw that display. The thing wrong about Culan is that he only had captured a few magi but had not killed any of them personally which makes it hard for him to earn his keep. He only works for the money and to claim bounty and avoids killing anyone he captures as much as possible. Some would resort to killing magi on the spot and if you were to look Culan that way, he's pretty much an oddity as a hunter.

blood on my name THERE'S A RECKONING A COMING, IT BURNS BEYOND THE GRAVE With the handshake concluded, Archaleos was mildly surprised to find that more people had been observing the spar than he'd first thought. Which wasn't a bad thing. It wasn't something that the Hunter often went around telling people, but he really did thrive on praise and recognition of his skills. The knowledge that someone of note was impressed by what he could do always had a way of pushing Archaleos ahead with even more zeal so, naturally, he was quietly thrilled by the spotlight. A little unexpected pat to his ego. The hubbub that ensued caused him to fail to notice Culan departing for the bench, a few others who approached him quickly grabbing the teen's attention, and of course Archaleos was going to politely make conversation. However, he had to decline any offers for another fight. At least for the moment. He was feeling ready for a drink of water before he went toe to toe with any other of his peers. Before that could happen he excused himself from the small grouping of people and headed after Culan. He was wrapped up in talking with a woman— a receptionist, as Archaleos vaguely remembered —and the younger Hunter flashed her a pleasant smile upon reaching the two before turning his dark eyes to Culan. ❝I'll be heading off for now, so thank you again for the exercise. Please feel free to find me again some time if you fancy a rematch.❞ Now that was all he had really felt like doing. A last, parting wave of one robotic hand and Archaleos turned about once again to walk out of the training space. 0000 WORDS | | @paracelsus | | lame reply on my part but trying to wrap up hsdlkfjd |
