HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE.
Admittedly, Orion hadn't spent much time in this place. The Market Place was where all of the shady deals in Dagos went down, where the drug dealers and slavers rubbed elbows with corrupt cops and pimps. The criminal element had been in control of it for a long time, to the point that even Orion didn't much like being there. He kept his hand on his gun as he moved silently through the streets, his senses alert for any pickpocket or unexpected knife that might look for him here. The stench of Magi was heavy on the air, and he was fairly certain that there were more than a couple of them here. Unfortunately, his orders expressly forbade starting a hunt on this mission, which would rely on more finesse than strength.
Damn that Cyborg woman. Surely she hadn't mistaken his lack of open hostility for a desire to join her on her missions. Whenever she managed to show up, he would have to straighten her out on that point. For now, though, he was doing his best to avoid being ambushed by unfriendly Magi. He could hardly conceal his sword, and that put a target on his back in this place, where any form of law enforcement was unwelcome unless it came with a dollar sign. He was a lot of things, but for sale was not one of them. He had never been one to be motivated by greed.
Most of the people ignored his presence, despite his height. The people were dense on these streets, like termites milling around a mound, and his height allowed him to see over the heads of most of them. It would be hard to sneak up on him, not the least of which was because he was almost itching for someone to try something. If he was protecting himself, after all, he wouldn't have been in violation of his orders. At this rate, however, he was going to go back from this mission without a single kill to add to his name. It was a waste of a Hunter's time, in his opinion. Still, he wasn't about to risk Kalidas's ire by ignoring his orders, annoying as they were.
Finally arriving at the address, he sniffed the air. No one had been here for a good while. It looked like he had beaten Dullahan there. Leaning into the shadows of the doorway, he folded his arms to wait for her to get there, so they could start the wild goose chase, whatever it was. His blue eyes scanned the street. He hadn't been followed, either. Good.

Notes Show me your angry face
| 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Dullahan moved down the street like a tank; steady, firm, and ran over anyone who got in her way. She was already in a soured mood, dealing with a shady broker was not her idea of a good time, but if her superiors weren’t going to move against this “Ember,” she was going to do some investigating on her own. But that was for a later date. Now, she was on her way to meet Orion for another op. Stolen intel from a legal office, in possession of magi; not horribly important, but procedure demanded an agent be present for retrieval. They had asked her to pick a hunter to accompany her, as they didn’t know the exact location, and nobody could track like they could. Oliver was busy, River was… being left up to Oliver, and nobody else really stood out to her. Orion seemed to take his job seriously, and she was curious to see just exactly what he had. He could even be officer material, gods willing. He wasn’t hard to spot in the crowd, easily towering over the sea of heads. Early, too. Why couldn’t the hunters find more like him? It was too early to judge, but she respected him so far. She kept her eye out for anyone who may be stalking her; no doubt the Equalist Movement had a bead on her after her most recent display of force. She was satisfied she was clean, and followed Orion’s path. With her hands in her jacket pockets, she leaned on the wall near him. It was time to get to work. “What have you been told about this mission?” She said, getting right to business. She wasn’t going to let more bullshit intel drops be responsible for yet another disaster under her watch. She rolled her neck and shrugged, trying to get used to the weight of her new weapon. It wasn’t a burden for her like it would be for a human, but the modular weapons were heavy, and the precision rifle was one of the heaviest; it was a matter of rebalancing yourself, adjusting to the unusual weight distribution. It retracted neatly, and fit on her lower back, no larger than a sawed-off shotgun in this form. Most importantly, it could be mostly hidden under her jacket. She didn’t exactly care to let any wandering eyes know what she was carrying, unlike Orion and his gigantic sword. |

HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE.
Orion sighed as the Cyborg woman walked up. She wasn't as obtrusive as he was in this place, partially because she was smaller and partially because her weapons were hidden in her cybernetic body, and that meant that if there was trouble, he would likely be the first one targeted. Fantastic. But at least she was getting right to business, instead of trying to endear herself to him. He didn't know why so many Cyborgs were bent on convincing him that they were human, but it was a breath of fresh air to encounter one that didn't waste time on such nonsense. Even if it was a pain in the ass to find that he'd been assigned a mission in which a Cyborg was in charge.
"Not much," he admitted to her, still glancing around to ensure that no one was paying attention to the pair of them. "I was told to report here for a search and destroy, and that I was to partner with you. And that... you're in charge."
He said the last part around his teeth, as if it was being dragged out of him. It grated on him to have to follow the instructions of a Cyborg, especially considering that her last mission had gotten all of its human counterparts killed by ambush. But he would follow orders, even if they were distasteful. He respected his commanding officer too much to simply disregard his wishes just because he didn't like them. Besides, Orion got the impression that this order had come from higher up on the chain of command. Even if his CO had wanted to send someone else, he wouldn't have been able to. That meant Orion was stuck with this woman. At least for this mission.
Leaning forward, he pushed off of the wall and stood to his full height, rolling his head to stretch his neck. He wasn't really good at blending in, but the shadows and his dark clothing had disguised him well enough, as they always did. Well enough that no one was watching now, anyway.
"So do I get to know what we're after, or is that above my pay grade?" he asked, looking at her as he stepped down off of the ledge of the doorway.
Maybe if he had some of the intel, it would save his damn neck, where other Hunters had been killed. It was necessary, perhaps, to play things so close to the vest, but it was also inconvenient, and could be downright dangerous. If they trusted him enough to go on this mission, why wouldn't they trust him enough to tell him more details about it? It wasn't as if he could go on the mission blindfolded, and going without intel was just as bad as that.

Notes Take me down to the magi city / Where the hunters raid and life is shitty | 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Dullahan barked a short, disgusted grunt and shook her head. Fuckin' figures. Yeah you have to put that on the paperwork, but if they didn't trust the hunters enough, well, you got disasters. It was a waste of time and resources, not to mention reputation. She didn't like it; maybe because she was a field grunt, too; sure, one with more responsibility, and one in charge, but she didn't make plans from the comfort of an office chair. No, she was down in the dirt with them, and so had more respect for them than the 'superiors.' “Can't tell you what's on it,” she said. She retrieved her pistol from the jacket holster and inspected it one more time, now that they were away from prying eyes. “We're here to find a small object containing classified data, and the magi who have it. A small group, likely no more than five. Disorganized, and in the area. You're here to provide tracking and combat support.” She looked up at the man. “Since we don't expect they're connected to anything bigger, taking them alive is optional. Personally, when it comes to animals, I prefer to shoot first; I can always pull the item off their corpse, after all. You can engage freely.” She turned to look at the doorway. A small, abandoned building by the look of it, but old plans and remote scans indicated the layout was a bit larger on the inside than it seemed. There were several paths they could take, and multiple nooks and exits for them to hole up. This is why a hunter was needed; despite her night vision, her stamina, her speed... it was too much ground to cover by oneself, and gangs weren't uncommon sights in the market. People didn't take kindly to hunters and law around here; it was downright forbidden near that broker's office, for some reason. She'd need to look into that. “This building leads to a small underground system; old subway, long abandoned; expect open lanes and a hostile welcome when we do find them.” She sighed. She retrieved her phone and displayed a small, vague map on the 3D display, so Orion could see what he was going into. “Could even have some ramshackle base set up. We'll have to play it by ear. Not enough intel on how it looks down there, you can see. I don't like going in blind any more than you do, so let's move carefully.” She nodded at Orion, indicating she was ready. “You're up; I'll take point once they're close.” He would have to lead, as the tracker, but she would stay close on his six. She never did like following; once they found the Magi, it was better that she was in front, as her body was much more capable of taking hits than his. |

HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE.
"Fine by me," Orion said with a nod. "Just stay well enough behind that you don't confuse the scents."
Annoying as it was to be called in to basically be the hunting dog of a Cyborg, he could not deny that it was one of his talents. The gifting from Kalidas had made it easy for him to track down his prey, and a group of five was more likely to leave a trail that he could follow than a single fugitive. And scent was much easier to follow than other markings, since most Magi left tracks that looked identical to humans. Even the Cyborgs didn't have the capability to distinguish between the two quite as neatly. Damn them.
Turning to look at the doorway, he placed his hand flat on it and pushed it open slowly, glad that it wasn't locked. It was never a good idea to start a hunt by knocking down a door, considering the noise and the dust it kicked up. The scents of Magi were faint here, faded. That meant that there had been Magi here once, and from the scent of it, more than one had frequented the area. Did they use this entrance to get there? Perhaps they once had, as he knelt in the middle of the room, the scent stayed faint. It had been a long time since a Magi had been here.
The room was bare, an old supply room for a store that had been supplied by the underground a lifetime ago. The walls had faint outlines of shelves that no longer stood there, as if the dust had been unable to settle there, but the dust hadn't been stirred here for a long time. Only the light streaming in the cracks of the boarded up windows allowed him to see much, but the opening to the underground was easy to find, given the sparseness of the space. Pausing for a moment, he pulled out a sheet of paper and drew a rune before rolling the paper into a long tube. A light emanated out of the end of it, and he used it to light his way further in.
He kept his hand on his gun as he descended the metal staircase in the corner, his senses alert. The scent wasn't getting much stronger yet, but that didn't mean that someone couldn't come from the opposite direction unexpectedly.
The tunnels matched the specs from the holo, and the scent of Magi was getting stronger as he took a couple of turns, following where it led. Nothing fresh yet, but the stale scents were congregating into a well-trafficked area. The metal rails made for an obstacle down the middle of the long tunnel, and he walked along the wooden planks to keep his feet from making noise in the gravel.
Almost a mile down the line, he stopped as a fresh scent drifted across his path. Raising his fist in a signal to stop, he signalled to Dullahan. They were nearby.

Notes Sadly I have no more clever song lyrics. | 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID Dullahan nodded and followed his lead, flipping on her night vision and descending a short distance behind Orion. She had her pistol out and ready, taking quiet steps behind him. She was alert for any sense of movement; he needed her to watch his back, watch for any approaching surprises. But the tunnel was eerily quiet for a long time, dead, dusty, and dark; she had expected more traffic. Were Magi no longer using this area so prominently? She had exhaled a small snort at the use of runic magic. More hunters just wasting their time with that university, with awful professors like that Inoue bitch filling their heads with useless information about magic that isn’t even as good as an animal’s. Still, with Orion, he seemed to be willing to manage him time well enough, getting early practices to make up lost time studying. The little flashlight rune was… cute. Was doing something your phone could do worth all that studying? Feh. She watched carefully how he proceeded; quietly, no small talk, making frequent pauses to check his trail, and head on a swivel. No doubt she was right about him; he was what the hunter’s guild was supposed to be about. Dedicated to the hunt, removing animals, and keeping people safe. She nodded and signaled to him that she would take point, and to follow close. She crept against the wall, following the old subway’s path. After a half mile, she stopped Orion, and signaled for him to be on watch. She knelt and hunched over the dimmed picture of the holo, confirming her suspicions. In front of them was an old switching station, appeared to be rusted and locked. One path forked left, and one to the right, but the holo only showed the path to the right. She showed Orion the holo and nodded to him, confirming that the scent was stronger down the “nonexistent path.” Back into business mode, she crept against the wall, following the curve. It didn’t go for long before seeing why the path wasn’t on any recent maps; it looked like an old cave-in had hit the tunnel, hard, trapping a train of an old design under the rubble which closed the tunnel from floor to ceiling. She approached the train and could see more details from her careful glances; the back end and insides were mostly gutted, making a makeshift tunnel through the debris. A little oasis, hidden and off any record; no wonder they hid out down here. She wasted no time climbing into the raised train, scanning for makeshift traps or signs of movement. A car or two down, she could see light streaming in from what would be a side door, and faint voices could be heard echoing against the metal walls. Likely, there was an old platform that they had set up in, and this was their only way in or out. Her movements were painfully slow, not wanting to tip the magi off by clunking down her heavy feet on the metal floor. Eventually, she came to a window that showed the clearing instead of just rocks; indeed, four magi could be seen. Around them were cots, computers on tables, old furniture, hung lights, a fire in a barrel, cans and garbage. Quite the little setup, almost homely, completed with siphoned power from a spliced electrical line. They’ve been here awhile. She turned back to Orion and kept her voice a whisper, the idle chatter from the magi group able to cover her voice. “Four magi, unaware,” she said. “Two left, two right. No visible weapons. No water, either, so jump the dirt magi first. I’ll boost in, grab their attention, and knock out the left flank. Wait two beats after I make contact, then hit the right. I’ll be open to the other dirt magi, so I’m counting on you to neutralize him. Engage as you see fit, but time is of the essence. And don’t let him catch you in here; you’ll be buried in this train. Understood?” The last word wasn’t harsh, not like an officer speaking to a young recruit. It was firm, but without the edge; the same tone she would take with Oliver or River, people who have proven themselves to her. She respected him now, and if he could handle himself while listening to her, she may even trust him as a hunter. |

HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE.
Orion nodded once, glancing over the scene. They were clearly comfortable here, and from the remote location, he could guess why. But he couldn't help but be a little disgusted by their security. There wasn't even anyone keeping watch, and they certainly had enough people that it should have been an easy matter. Hopefully, it would make this encounter an easy matter. His gun would liven up the area, but it would also make him go deaf if he didn't take measures to account for the confined space. Reaching into his belt, he pulled out the noise cancelling ear buds that he used on the range when he was practicing with his pistol. The device sealed to his ear canal, as they'd been created to do.
Once that was done, he crept out of the train and found a good place to hide, creeping through the shadows carefully. His new sword was lighter than his old one had been, even if it was just as robust as the last one had been. But the lighter weight made him quieter on his feet, and even though he was exceptionally tall for a man, he had worked at moving quietly. The darkness and the flickering fire helped disguise his presence, almost as much as their muted conversation. By the time that he was in position, he was still completely undetected. They were so unobservant, it was pathetic.
His hand rested against the butt of his gun, and he focused on the Earth Magi that was his first target. The man was solid, perhaps more so than Orion, if a few inches shorter, and he had armadillo-like armor across his shoulders and down his arms. Luckily for Orion, the armor stopped at the base of the neck. It would only take a single headshot to take him down. From the age of the man, he was probably one of the older Magi in the group, since most younger Magi looked like children well into their twenties. This Magi looked almost middle-aged. Pulling the gun from his holster, he silently pulled the slide back a quarter of an inch and glanced down at it. There was a round in the chamber. With his hand heavy on the top of the weapon, it made no noise as it slid back into place.
Looking up, he turned his attention to the other Magi. If it wasn't for its fishy Magi scent, he wouldn't have been able to tell that this one was a Water Magi. It didn't have any visible animal features like the others, but then its coat covered it up to the ears. For all that Orion could tell, it could have had fish scales and a tail under the heavy layer of fabric.
Crouching as he was, he waited for Dullahan to move. It was about time.

Notes Hey this reply sucks bc I hate writing combat scenes so uhhhh SORRY
| 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID She waited for Orion to move into position. A man with a sword as large as he was moving quietly through the shadows. The overconfidence of the magi would be their undoing. Murderous animals didn’t have much foresight after all, did they? Just kill or steal and then flee, confident that none will find your little cave. No alarms, no sentries, nothing. No wonder the hunter’s guild was lax with their recruits; they were going up against even more disorganized enemies. She eyed her two targets. A dirt magi with vinelike growths all over his body, and a water magi, easily identified by his webbed hands and finlike ears. Both busy at their computers. Trying to crack the encryption, maybe. She couldn’t see from here, and really, it didn’t matter, so long as she got the item back or broke it so it couldn’t fall into enemy hands. She holstered her pistol; she was getting in the fray, full distraction. If Orion didn’t measure up, she could be in dire straits. If all went to plan, though, she’d have two dead and he’d kill the earth magi before any harm could befall her. Well, no time like the present; Orion was in position and they were clearly both itching to end these idiots. She crept to the subway door, lowered into a runner’s crouch. Her shotgun-like weapons whirred softly as they emerged from her wrists. Three, two, one… A jet-like noise erupted from her propulsion thrusters as she shot forward like a bullet. They barely had time to turn at the sound before she was on them. Her first punch, filled with forward momentum, connected squarely with the vine-magi’s chest. There was an echoing bang from her gun that made the sound of crunching bone and tearing flesh all the more brutal. The magi was dragged by her fist and skidded harshly into a stone pillar as Dullahan halted her forward movement suddenly with reverse thrusters. She whipped around and sprung to the water magi, who was still trying to get a grip on the situation. A young punk in the wrong crowd. Her fist scattered the computers off the table as she connected a haymaker swing to his jaw. The shotgun blasted again, tearing flesh and teeth from face, the noise barely covering the familiar crack of shattered bones. Like a tornado, she used that momentum to swing in a full circle and plant another hit into his sides, following with two more. The bloody, disfigured body crumpled lifelessly to the floor . She recoiled as a pillar of earth raised from the ground and slammed her in the chest; either the magi had a good reaction time, or Orion had missed a shot, or the shot connected but the Magi was already in the middle of his magic. In any case, a hit was expected, and she wouldn’t blame Orion. What she needed was for him to stop any further magic. The hit came suddenly and jostled her balance. Her head felt warm. A jolt went through her brain and her eye widened. She stumbled down to one knee, trembling, gripping her head. No, not now. Not in a fight! But despite her attempts at fighting back, the visions flooded. Fire. The camp. First awakening. Flowers. Voice, that voice, static-masked yet so familiar. Calling her. She was stuck in her mind now, trying desperately to go free. In this state she was vulnerable, which was how the hidden last magi, an avian-looking air magi, was able to dash from behind another section of the platform and get the jump on her. From behind her struggling figure, as a shield, he attempted to throw a bolt of electricity at the hunter. |

SWISH.
It was impossible to miss Dullahan's opening, and the Magi all turned to look at her the moment her propulsion went into effect, giving him the perfect cover to get in the first shot. The Earth Magi stood with a shout as Orion lifted his gun, and it managed to get off a single shot before Orion's pistol barked once. The shot hit just where Orion had aimed, hitting it on the back of the head with the force of a hammer blow, but the Earth Magi didn't go down as he had expected. The Water Magi turned to look at Orion at the same time as the armored Magi was recovering from the daze that the impact had set him into, and Orion was forced to turn his aim to the scaly Magi instead.
It hissed with a voice like an alligator and leaped backward, throwing a series of knives at Orion, but the Hunter managed to roll forward, and he felt more than heard the projectiles thud into the stack of wooden boxes behind him. Landing on his feet in a crouch, he fired again and caught the Water Magi in the center of its chest, just below the collar bone. It gasped, blinking absently as the gills on either side of its neck flexed up and down. Without another sound, it fell to its knees and collapsed sideways, knocking over the barrel it had been sitting on.
He didn't have time to celebrate, as the Earth Magi had recovered enough to attack again, but instead of attacking Orion, it was attacking Dullahan instead. Gritting his teeth in anger, Orion took another few shots. They glanced off of the peculiar armor plating, but it was enough to gain his attention. The man turned and Orion lifted his gun, squinting to make sure that he got the angle and precision he needed, especially in this low lighting. By the time it had turned around, time seemed almost as if it was slowing down, and the gift of Kalidas told him exactly the moment to squeeze the trigger. The gun barked again, and the round passed through his eye.
Orion didn't lower his gun as the Earth Magi fell to the ground, dead, but when he saw that Dullahan had finished off her enemies, he put the pistol in the holster. His hand lifted to his sword as he saw movement out of the corner of his eye, and he drew the weapon to block the electricity that was thrown his way. The magic dispersed against the blade, leaving only the scent of ozone behind. Without pausing, Orion took the few rapid steps forward, much to the surprise of the Air Magi who had only just realized that his attack hadn't worked. With a grunt of effort, Orion whipped his sword through the air in a wide sweep. The blade sliced through both necks with ease.
Shaking the blood off of his blade, he splattered the ground with dark red and stood with a shake of his head.

| 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID A gentle voice calling. Static. Visions flash by like a flipbook, jumbled, incomprehensible. Not now. Returning to reality. Gunshots echo like a distant memory. A grip, touching, no, snap out! Snap out! With a growl, Dullahan shook herself free of her mental prison, heaving and panting heavily, eye wide in shock. It took her a moment to get a bearing on her surroundings. A grip on her. Another magi? Before her, Orion’s targets lay dead, cleanly. She blinked the fog free just in time to see Orion in his swing. What was he- Just before the blade connected, she clicked the locks free on her neck, realizing midway through her head’s separation from her body that Orion had known that it wouldn’t be lethal to her. Her airborne head flashed a grin. Clever man. Magi wouldn’t expect that; hostages would buy them more time, right? Ha. As the body behind her crumpled she caught her head and lowered it to her neck, re-engaging the locks with a relieved sigh. She shook herself, loosening up her tensed gears and pistons, her brain finally sending the signals it needed to. She knew the two of them would scout the area a bit, listen for sounds, ensure no more surprises happened. When she was confident the area was secured, she fished around the bodies and the fallen computers for the item. She shook her head as she knelt at the first corpse. She didn’t get those attacks in battle, not often. It was an unfortunate display of weakness in front of a competent hunter. Fortunately, he was able to step up and compensate. “Good work,” she said as she rifled through the first magi’s pockets. Nothing. She got up and repeated the process with the other ones while she spoke. Her words were tepid, with a hint of shame. “I apologize for my momentary lapse. I’ve been told that the human brain has trouble adapting to this chassis sometimes, but that it would not occur during fights.” She stopped her search, glaring at nothing, her teeth clenching as the bitter words left her mouth. “Clearly they were wrong.” She walked over to the computers that were scattered and broken by her punch. In one of the drives, utilizing an oddly rigged adapter, the data chip sat, undamaged. She removed the chip as well as the adapter rigged by the magi. Administration would want to see this. She stretched and ran her hands through her hair, trying to remove the dripping air magi blood from it. The air was heavy with the scent of death, a mix of blood and feces. She was glad she didn’t have the tracker’s nose like Orion did. “Wish it didn’t put you in unnecessary danger, but you handle yourself as well here as you did on the range,” she said. She wasn’t trying to butter him up, and wasn’t even looking at him as she waved for him to follow her back down the tunnels. She didn’t have a mind for complimenting hunters or agents; either they performed or they didn’t. “Good to see I wasn’t wrong to trust you.” |

Yay for bloodthirsty Hunters.
Orion grunted once in response to her words, putting his sword away and pulling out his skinning knife. He didn't care much what she thought of him, just that she was competent enough to get the job done. Her display of weakness wasn't one that he was meant to see, he was certain, but it cemented why she needed a partner to come along on the missions she was given. If he was to be that partner, even if only provisionally, he was glad that he was finding out about this weakness now. If it had happened at the start of the battle, and he hadn't known to watch for it, it could have meant his own death.
With those thoughts in mind, Orion knelt by the closest of his kills, peeling up the gills with his knife and wiping the blood off of them. Like the hide of a fish, they didn't come with a lot of blood, but they still smelled equally foul as he wrapped them in cloth. Dead Magi smelled horrible, but he took a certain amount of satisfaction in knowing that it was his weapon that had ended them. They wouldn't be around to endanger anyone ever again, and Kalidas would enjoy the tribute that he gave her.
"Just get what you came her for, and let's get out of here," he said, glancing at her as he stood again.
He went to the Earth Magi next, turning it over to see the horrible wound that had destroyed it's eye and shattered thte back of its skull on the way out. What should he take to give to Kalidas? Eying the armadillo-like plating across its shoulders, he worked at the base of the thin strip with his blade. It took more work to peel it up than it had to get the gills up, but he still worked at it until a few of the strips came up. The work was bloody, and the armor had the consistency of finger nails, which was creepy, but he managed to get a few good samples to take back to the chapel at the Hunters Guild.
His last trip was to the Air Magi, and he only plucked a few feathers from it.
Standing at last, he turned to look at her. Had she found what she was looking for? He hoped so, considering that the stench of death would keep Orion from being able to tell if there were any other Magi in the area. Even the gifts of Kalidas had their limits, and he wasn't eager to test them here, where there were only a few ways out and the consequences of an ambush in these settings were likely to be deadly. He cleaned the blood from his hands with the last of his spare cloths.

Notes Murder finished, time to buy mementos for the kids! No, Orion, they don't want a magi corpse, pls
| 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, AND IT DID She nodded at the all-business attitude. Just what she liked about River: someone short on words and good on watching your back in a fight. No wonder Orion and River were seen hanging out together back at the guild. She looked on with difference at the skinning of the magi; hunters really did live up to their name in all ways. Track, kill, and get your trophies. Of course, when working with Oliver, she noted that he preferred to switch the order of two and three. It was kind of nice to not have to wait until he was done, she had to admit. Just kill 'em and wrap up. The exit from the tunnel system was otherwise uneventful. Not a soul could be seen until they emerged from the building they came from. She was on tentative alert for an ambush, but it appeared the intel was accurate about the number and skill of the magi. Tch. A shame; she wanted to know if there was anything relating to that damn equalist faction. Maybe the recovery teams she’d send would find something on those shattered computers. If Orion spoke during the trip, she’d engage him shortly. Otherwise, she was content to have a successful retrieval that resulted in dead magi. “I have other business in Dagos,” she said after they emerged back to the street. “You’re dismissed. Good working with you.” Short and to the point. Unless he had anything to add, she’d walk away from the place, blending back into the streets as well as she could after cleaning off blood with a spare cloth. She hated Dagos, and once she was done with her errands (buying a souvenir for her sister, who never traveled as much as she did before the kids and before accident, and some treats for the kids), she would retrieve her vehicle from a nearby garage and start the long drive home to Felici. |
