HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE.
It had been a rough few weeks with very little sleep, but Orion's grades were rapidly improving. It helped that he had delegated all of his weapons training to the early morning, before anyone had a chance to interrupt his concentration in the training courtyard, but mostly it was due to him finally finding the balance where he could keep a training schedule and a study schedule. Of course, it had more or less stalled out his social life, and any chance he had of looking for information about his mother's death, but thanks the deal he'd made for the robot in the Dagos slums, spending time with Dr. Inoue still qualified as looking for information on the murder. If he could find out enough about her, the information broker would give him all the leads he could want, after all.
But that still didn't make him any more comfortable sitting in the frilly coffee shop where the professor had asked to meet. Although the smell of coffee was fairly pleasant, the decorations were trying too hard to be both cozy and trendy, resulting in something that reminded him of a freshman girl's dorm room. It was sickening in how sweet and stylish it was, as if someone couldn't decide if they wanted to cater to grandmothers or college students. Nursing a cup of black coffee, he stirred the liquid absentmindedly as he read the assigned text for his Runic Language class, trying to memorize the new symbols. He was grateful that common had taken over as the universal trade language. There were hundreds of runes, and they all had different meanings. It was a lot to remember.
Absorbed in the book as he was, he didn't quite register the alarmed, and sometimes disgusted looks that he was getting from the staff and the patrons alike, when they saw the sword that sat against the wall next to him. Thankfully, the government issued ID that he had shown to the disapproving manager meant that they didn't have any choice but to allow him to sit there drinking coffee, armed to the teeth. It would have been funny, if it had happened to anyone else. For him, it was more of an annoyance. Why couldn't they have met somewhere else? Anywhere else, really.
He snorted once, annoyed at the overpowering stench of sugar that filled the air as the barista put together an iced coffee drink of some kind. His sense of smell was helpful during a hunt, but if he was honest with himself, it was damned inconvenient the rest of the time. There were more foul smells in the world than good, and he was better able than most to pick up the worst of odors. Sparing a single moment to glare at the pale pink cup that held the drink, he turned back to his book.
The professor had better not be late, or he was going to lose his shit on the perky cashier who kept giving him the flirty eye.

As the metro rocked back and forth Emiko continued to stare blankly out the window. Building after building whizzed by as the train continued down to its next destination. The gaze was blank as her form rocked along with the rest, her manicured hand holding onto the available bar to keep her balance. It was still going. Still. How long had it been now?
The peaceful musings of the classical piano playing through her earbuds did little to remove her uncomfort. Emi allowed a single glance over to the arm that laid limp at her side while the other not only kept her balance grounded but hosted the suitcase over her shoulder as well. The burning sensation was still going. What was she forgetting? As far as Emiko knew she was up to date with all of the orders given to her. Was this a reminder of some kind? Was it because she hadn't completely accomplished the last item on the list and the due date was tomorrow seven am sharp?
A sudden inhale would sound as Emi closed her eyes and looked away from the source of the sudden electric shock that had just jolted her. She had barely slept a wink last night. The metro bumped causing Emi's head to bobble a bit which shortly had her sighing. No, she had to ask the Headmaster about this. This wasn't normal. Or perhaps this was his way of calling her to him through means that could not be traced in any way ... that was probably it now that she thought about it. Her Headmaster had apparently called others of her peers to his side through such a manner but never her. I mean, it wasn't as exhaustively intense as if she had failed him. This wasn't a punishment persay she mused. It made more sense the longer she bobbed with the metro's movements. Another fiery shock running up her arm would cause another brief flinching. Yep, after her classes she was going to ask permission to see him. Hell no was she going to just keep going about her days when it was increasingly getting worse to this point. Surely she could pull it off with her schedule and still accomplish her orders.
The sensation of the metro breaking would cause Emi's eyes flutter open. Pushing her way through the busy car she continued across the cement tiled floor. Signs were there to indicate which way to go for the streets above that one might wish to visit however Emiko was long past needing those. Without so much of a glance their way she'd walk with purpose through the city crowds and climb the stone stairs that led to the above bustling city sidewalks. Traffic honked, distant sirens wailed, people spoke. Emiko quickly found the flow of traffic and joined in until she reached one of her few sovereign safe places. A happy place one could call it.
Immediately the smell of sweetness and coffee hit her. This was indeed one of her happy places. She couldn't help but smile. As far as the professor was aware there was only pleasantness about her. Freshly baked pastries, brewed coffee. Enough people in the place to have a private conversation but not too many where it was overcrowded. And there he was. "Good morning, Mr Lorne." She'd say with a smile as she approached. "The trains were running a bit behind schedule so that's why I'mmmm," The young woman looked down to her watch before finishing, "only three minutes early." Looking back up with a grin she'd look to the coffee beside him. "Have you ordered for me yet?"

HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE.
Orion looked up as he heard a familiar voice, and he nodded once to his professor. As she looked at her watch, he frowned. He'd been waiting for fifteen minutes, but he always got everywhere early. It was surprising to some, given how full his schedule usually was, but his meticulous nature made it impossible to consider getting anywhere late. Still, he put a book mark in his spot in the text book and closed it, not wanting to seem rude. At her comment about the coffee, his eyes narrowed in annoyance. Much as he needed the tutoring, it still annoyed him that she seemed to think of him as her personal lackey, as if he didn't have anything more important to do, other than bring her coffee. He bit his tongue. He needed her help, damn it, and more than that, he needed to spend time with her until he found out what the Cyborg wanted to know.
Piling his books in a stack, he moved the over to the corner of the table and stood with a sigh. He would put up with this because he had no choice, and because the defining trait of the best Hunters tended to be patience.
"What kind of coffee?" he asked, casting a sour glare at the counter.
At her reply, he nodded once and got back in line behind a small grandmotherly woman. She waited until she got to the counter before examining the board for her choice, and Orion gritted his teeth in irritation. He was beginning to consider "accidentally" burning this place down the next time that he was chasing a Fire Magi, when the woman finally placed her order and Orion was the next person in line. It was the cashier who was giving him the eyes, and his expression was flat and irritated when her face brightened. Why.
"Can I help you?" she asked, looking disproportionately hopeful.
"Get me two large Columbian blend coffees," he told her. "Black."
"Two?" she asked, tilting her head before her eyes flicked over to where the professor stood.
At once, annoyance and hurt flashed across her face, and Orion followed her stare. His cheeks reddened as his eyes widened, realizing what she was thinking. He turned back to say something, but she snapped off the price and held out her hand, her other falling to her hip. Trying very hard not to roll his eyes, he paid for the beverages and moved over to the other end of the counter to wait. His own drink had been getting low, and he needed the caffeine, but he would have preferred to never have to talk to the employees ever again, especially if they were going to act like this one was.

"Thank you, Mr Lorne." Emi flashed a smile to the young man before he left to place the order at the counter. Sauntering her own way towards the back of the cafe Em slid into a booth with a grace that was natural. Hips swaying side to side, if the professor had turned she would have noticed a few male sets of eyes tennis-ing back and forth with the rhythm. More so, the professor was unaware of any glaring or disapprovement from any baristas.
Sliding into the booth and resting her briefcase beside her Emiko couldn't help but sigh. Finally. Raising her newly freed hand Em would gingerly massage the arm that laid limp at her side. This was going to be a long day up until she met with the Headmaster to inquire of why the tattoo was giving her such grief. At the moment it seemed to have dulled to a constant throbbing, the burning sensation simmering.
While waiting for her coffee the young woman would close her eyes and continue massaging. She had papers to grade but that could wait until the student had returned. For now the sounds of dishes clinking and multi-layers of conversation allowed a soothing ambience.

To be honest, I have forgotten what we have in mind to accomplish in this thread.
Tapping the counter with his fingertips as he waited, his eyes went over to the Professor, who was sitting at the booth with her eyes closed. She seemed to be absently rubbing at her arm, as if it hurt for some reason, but he hadn't smelled any blood on her when she'd come in. Had she pulled a muscle or something? He continued to wonder until his thoughts were interrupted by the two coffee cups placed next to his elbow with perhaps unnecessary force. Slipping the cups into their brown sleeves to protect his fingers, he turned to nod to the barista in thanks, only to find that she was studiously ignoring him. Fine by him. If it meant that she would stop staring at him, he would gladly take her dislike, instead of her unwanted attention.
Heading back over to the table, he met the eyes of a couple of the men who had been staring, and they immediately dropped their gaze or looked away, preferring to pretend that they hadn't been watching. How he hated this place. The coffee smelled vaguely burnt, which was fairly common, really, considering that the people who prepared the coffee didn't have the same sense of smell that he did. But that meant that he had to put up with both bad coffee and bad service, in addition to the irrational dislike that the other customers had, based on the glares that he could no feel on the back of his head.
Setting the coffee in front of Professor Inoue, he sat down and found his place in the text book, flipping open to the page. From his experience with the professor, she wouldn't be ready to start right away, and he'd have to wait patiently until she deemed it was time to begin. Annoying and rude, but there wasn't much he could do about that. Besides, he had homework of his own to finish while she graded the papers that she usually kept in that brief case.
"What did you have in mind for today, Dr. Inoue?" he asked, running his finger down the page to find the line that he'd been reading.

Emiko experienced what can be best described as zen. Yes, she was experiencing a constant dull throbbing of pain. But in the small amount of time that had been allowed to her Em had come to a certain peace over the matter. It was what it was. With eyes closed and a relaxing rhythm of massaging, the young woman's head tilted to the side ever so slightly. As time traveled on her surroundings hushed away. Short of her quiet breathing, in and out, Em enjoyed the longevity of the accepted peace.
Clunk.
The sound of her coffee mug being set down caused Emi's eyes to open. Looking down with those scarlet hues she'd allow a relieved sigh to escape her painted lips. "Aww~ Thank you, Mr Lorne." As the young man took the booth across from her, Em's hand alleviated of its massaging duty moved to raise the mug to her nose to inhale lengthily ---??
Blinking in genuine surprise Emiko stared at the dark liquid that had betrayed her. "It's burnt." Looking over to the counter the professor would then find herself blinking at the barista. "Why is the new girl glaring in our direction?" She'd ask dead panned. Upon hearing whatever answer or non-answer Em would return her gaze to the mug once again. ".... I don't even care at the moment. I need my caffeine." And with that she'd take her first drink.
With a bit of a sour facial expression she'd swallow the lesser coffee that obviously didn't meet her standards before going back in for a second sip. "Well," Em would begin after clearing her throat of the experience, "I was going to open with answering any questions you might have over last chapter. And if you had none I was going to dive into Chapter 33. I know that's skipping ahead a few but I think that's the best way to go about it." The sentence just managed to escape her lips before a small yawn clipped her next set of words. "Excuse me." The woman apologized politely, sipping from her coffee once again.
讓我寫你的故事的結尾。 提到@orion 筆記Maybe if Orion offers that they go to another location for coffee that isn't burnt they can have a chat while walking to the new location? I'm just trying to think of how we can get the conversation where Orion needs it since he's not the one angling for Mae answers himself yet.

Sorry it's short.
"Why, indeed," Orion muttered, turning to glare at the young woman.
If he'd been expecting her to cow to his stare, he was disappointed. She flushed red for a moment, then returned his glare with interest, before turning her back on the pair of them. Her long ponytail flared behind her from the violence of the movement, and he rolled his eyes before looking down at his coffee. Did he dare chance taking a sip of this, knowing that she had purposely ruined Dr. Inoue's? He wasn't in the mood for this nonsense, and he didn't trust that the woman wouldn't have spat in his drink. Putting the coffee back down on the table, he moved it to the corner to make room for his book.
It didn't take long for him to realize that the barista was staring at him again, and annoyance colored his expression as he turned back to look at her, only to find that she was studiously staring at the ceiling. Real mature. How had he managed to inspire this level of vehemence by doing absolutely nothing?
"Maybe it's better we went somewhere else," he said, marking his spot on the page and closing the book. "Maybe they'll have better coffee. And more friendly staff."
He said the last part with a baleful glare toward the counter, and was annoyed to find that the girl was indeed staring at him again. She had her fists on her hips, and he was sure that she'd overheard what he'd said. Good. He'd intended that part for her. How had someone so juvenile managed to hold on to a job at a place like this, anyway? Even though he didn't come here himself, he knew that it had a good reputation. That was part of the reason that the coffee was expensive, and could afford garish decor like this.
Piling his books into a neat pile, he put them into the bag that he'd brought his books in and slipped the strap over his shoulder.

Emiko's sour expression upon setting down the half empty mug was answer enough. "... Gods dammit, yes. Get up." She sighed in exasperation as the cup was set down with a bit of bitterness. The unpleasant kind of bitterness much like the kind found in their mugs. "I'm not in the mood to demand for a manager. I just want a decent cup of coffee. There's another place half way down the next city block." The young woman stood with a clear frown chiseled across her painted lips. She just wanted fricking caffeine. Was that too much to ask for of this cruel world?
With the bothersome arm remaining limp at her side, Em reached forward to grab up her briefcase from the booth. Regardless of any eyes or glares that would follow Emiko would lead the way through the dining room, politely excusing herself as she made her way through the line of future customers. Once her heels hit the sidewalk outside the professor would turn to make sure her student was close behind.
"Bear with me until I get my caffeine." The young woman attempted to lightly joke. Once he was at her side Em would step forward so the two could begin their urban journey. The rough clashing ensemble of a city would grace their walk as an odd score. Especially with the solo of a swearing taxi driver yelling at another for cutting him off. Truly a symphony for the ages. Surely any discussion along the way would only compliment concert.

Non-subtle segway time?
Orion gave the barista a last sour look as he shouldered his bag and followed after Dr. Inoue, and the young woman turned her head as if she didn't notice. Rolling his eyes, he stepped out into the street behind his professor and began to follow behind her. Coffee shops weren't really his thing, since he didn't care for the crash that came after drinking coffee, and good black coffee was hard to find anyway. Thankfully, Dr. Inoue seemed to know where she was going, so he followed her lead through the crowded streets, staying close enough to hear what she was saying, but far enough back that they didn't need to part the crowd to get through. With Orion's size, people tended to move around him anyway, but that really only worked if he was in front.
Hearing her somewhat-joke, he gave a half-smirk. It was odd how people got so dependent on caffeine, like it was a drug that made them capable of functioning normally. He'd even known Hunters who couldn't function without it, and it threw off their dexterity by making their hands shake. He'd considered swearing off caffeine for just that reason, but for now, the most was willing to do was to keep his caffeine intake low enough that it wouldn't affect him too much.
His eyes wandered across the crowd as he inhaled, being cautious by habit. He'd been ambushed by Magi more than once, and he was careful not to give them that opportunity if he could help it. His size and the weapons he carried made him a target to the more militant Magi in the city, as he'd found to his detriment more than once. Humans and Cyborgs were scattered throughout the main strip, but he couldn't smell any Magi. Not now anyway. That didn't mean that they were safe, but at least it put his mind a little more at ease.
"So..." he said, wondering if this was his opportunity to get some of the answers he needed. "How did you get into runes? You clearly aren't in it as a Hunter."
There were more than a couple of Hunters who were also enrolled in the University, and he could understand why they would do something like that. He used his runic knowledge to give him an edge in combat, even if he'd originally enrolled as a means to give him a financial leg-up from the Dagos slums that would have provided him with no better opportunities in life. But why would anyone else really need to learn some of these skills? Why would Dr. Inoue, who hardly seemed like a militant?

Casting a polite smile Emiko would pause to allow a young mother to pass with her toddler son in tow. Kids. That had been a dream once upon a time, hadn't it? The polite aspect of the smile would fade to a genuine softness. Would the Headmaster ever allow her to be a mother while in his association? ... That was a question for another day. A smart of her arm would swiftly kick her wandering mind back into the present. Dragging her eyes away from the pleasant scene Em would focus on shouldering her way to the curb where they'd be forced to wait for the little green man to light up, directing pedestrians it was safe to cross.
The question actually caused a light laugh to emanate. "No. I'm not." The statement was true. She preferred heels to combat boots any day of the week. It was a rare sight to see the young woman out of them, even in casual wear. She clearly wasn't in the business for any sort of hunting reasoning. "My adoptive father helped secure a scholarship for me to attend the University." Came her simple reply as an older suited gentleman came to in between her and the headphone-wearing teenager, bobbing his head to the heavy base song. "I enjoyed the subject matter and," The professor shrugged, "I love teaching."
A fondness crept into her tone of voice as she stared across the way, looking past the cars that passed under the traffic light gateway. A food delivery chap leaned against the button while awaiting impatiently for his own turn to cross the street. No way was he going to get there in less than twenty minutes. No way was this meal coming out of his pay check. Beside him came to a halt a group of skate boarders. "I enjoy the teaching aspect of my job, alot. That's one of the reasons I do what I do." There was the slightest of pauses before deciding upon the word "one". If there was a real answer other than that, it would be the tattoo upon her arm. But this was light conversation with a student. "It's a very ... rewarding occupation to watch your students grow." In order to retire you need to find a replacement. Turning her head to make eye contact with Orion she'd offer a small smile. "There are many benefits and branches in the University if that's why you're asking, Mr Lorne."

Nice try, lady. xD
Frowning, he pondered over her response. She was avoiding the real question for some reason, acting as if he had asked about teaching instead of about the runes. Perhaps that diversion would have worked on someone a few degrees less intelligent, or someone far less confident, but Orion had an actual reason for asking, and he couldn't just let it lie. He glanced over at her, wondering why she would try to dodge the question like that. It wasn't as if he was asking something sinister, and he hadn't even gotten to any of the hard questions yet. Doubtless, she was going to make this harder than it needed to be.
He stopped at the curb, glancing back and forth along the street to ensure that no one was going to hit them when the crossed. Once they were safely on the sidewalk, he tried again.
"But why runes?" he said. "If you just love teaching, there are a dozen other universities in the world. Hell, there are hundreds of high schools that need good teachers."
To be honest, the idea of teaching wasn't one that appealed to him. He didn't have the patience with ignorance that would be necessary for him to help young minds learn what they needed. Besides, it would be dull in comparison to what he already did, and he knew himself well enough to know he would never be satisfied with that sort of life. Hunting was everything to him, and even his Runic studies were only an accessory to that. Perhaps sometime in the past, it had been different for him, but the violent death of his mother had changed him on a fundamental level.
"I could never be a teacher," he said, glancing both ways along the street. "Aside from the fact that I love my current job, I'm not good at explaining things to people. Besides, I doubt the Magi would conveniently forget that I was once a Hunter. Nor would my boss."
His "boss" was Kalidas, but that wasn't exactly public information. He knew that she would have been pissed if he were to suddenly decide to give up the Hunt altogether and work some cushy job in a school. She had clearly taken an interest in him, and he had seen what happened to Hunters that suddenly lost her favor. Not something he was interested in courting.

"My adopted father was insistent I participate in his field." Would be her simple answer. The subject was honestly not one she was a fan of. There was a rawness, a stinging of the metaphoric wound. After her mother had died in the foreign country of Ethea a young Em figured she was doomed to a life far lesser in opportunity. When Dr Aasim Haleema approached her on that overcast Summer day it was as if the sun had been introduced to her again. The older man's smile coupled with the literal parting of the sky's clouds, expressing something that resembled kindess. Hope. Little had she known of her adoptive father's true intentions.
Swallowing away nothingness Em stepped forward when the little green man beaconed her. Those besides her were all on their own paths of crossing the same street. Funny how paths crossed and merged amongst people to only diverge again upon crossing the street. Her heels sounded with every step as she led her student through the city crowds. Aasim had brought her into his life for the sole purpose of molding someone to take his place. His freedom for another's. And now she was doomed to repeat the pattern.
She'd forgive him over the years. It was a slow process but the longer she lived with the tattoo upon her arm, the clearer his reasons became. How many years until someone was working through the process of forgiving her? Turning her head to lightly glance at the young man behind her Emiko would smile. "Though the field is fascinating in itself. It wasn't too hard to convince me to make the subject one of my own passions."
Turning back to watch her step the professor would continue. "The very fact that one student can be studying the field in hopes of utilizing the knowledge for self defence while another is interested in using runes to better their volunteering at the red cross," The woman shrugged the shoulder that wasn't currently on metaphoric fire, "it speaks for itself. As you grow as a person the field is so vast in variety, you have so many oppotunities and options. That's why our graduates cover politicians, medical doctors, charity board members, military personel. Teaching is only a small portion of my job in all honesty. When you're a professor you are also a representative of the world's most influential establishment, and that includes your Hunter Guild."
Her tone wasn't belittling. The young woman treated the statement as if it was just another fact in the textbook Orion carried with him. "When you're only a Hunter, you're just muscle. But when you're a runic Hunter? You're the brains of the operation. I think even your Boss realizes that or we wouldn't be as accepting of each other's demands in our makeshift partnership, I'd say."

Let's not pick a fight. Sounds like the worst of ideas.
Orion nodded, making a mental note to find out what he could about her adoptive father. Perhaps Maevia would already have that information, but knowing that there was a connection between her place at the University and her adoptive father was more information than he'd had previously. But when she continued to talk, he got a slightly less than magnanimous vibe off of her. He knew that the University had its fingers in a lot of pies, but he hadn't realized that it was as extensive as Dr. Inoue was describing, and the thought was vaguely troubling. Did she really think that he was part of the University because it would get him a position in the Hunters?
Admittedly, he'd thought more than once that the Guild could use some smarter members, but he wasn't ambitious enough to considered much further down that line of thought. As long as the University helped him in the Hunt, he would continue in it, as was his original plan, but he wasn't about to use his tie to the University as a political gambit. He didn't have the patience for that kind of manipulation, and it wouldn't have gotten him anywhere if he did. The only way to move up in the Guild was for Kalidas to take a liking to a Hunter, and he knew that she only cared how good you were on the hunt.
Not that Dr. Inoue probably knew that. And he wasn't about to tell her.
Still, was it really so surprising to consider that the University had people in a lot of key places? He himself had originally applied because it was the quickest path out of poverty for someone who was smart enough to make it. With that being the case, there were probably a lot of wealthy people who owed their wealth in part or in whole to the University. That kind of clout was invaluable on the political stage, he was certain. No wonder Maevia wanted to know more about it.
"I guess," he conceded, his tone not entirely committed. "I do wonder if you're getting your cause and effect turned around on that, though. To become the brains of the organization, you'd have to be smart enough. Getting into the University requires the same kind of intelligence."
He was fully aware that the good doctor didn't care much for the Hunter's Guild, but he didn't have temper enough to get offended on its behalf. Besides, she wasn't saying anything about the Guild that he didn't already know. It had more than its fair share of meat heads.

The young woman's pace never hesitated once during their city stroll. Regardless of the crowds or the obstacle in her path, it seemed to part before her. There was an air in her walk, even when absent of caffeine. An aura of confidence, one that had been known to piss off a certain cyborg government agent. An insinuation that in some way or another, she owned the very streets she walked. The world only had to open itself to her and it was Em's to take. So when the student behind her attempted to correct his teacher, the specialist, the master of her field, it caused her heel pause for the first time since they had begun their suburban journey.
Glancing over a shoulder, past her natural waves, Emiko shared a small amused smile. "The University requires intelligence and a steady hand. The Hunter's Guild only requires one of those to be promoted." To insinuate a group of gunslingers were on the same level of intelligence as the University was beyond insulting. The kid was just ignorant was all though. No need to get nasty about it. "Now I know that doesn't include all members. I've had the pleasure of working with a select few that were delightful conversation in between assignments." Em would comment as she faced forward once again. That Ms Claire Sonozaki had been the first Hunter she'd enjoyed her time with in years ... The thought process soon shifted to wondering if there was a way for the professor to come across the woman's phone number.
.... Em slowed her pace as they walked around a group of tourists taking selfies. "Do you mind if I ask you an odd question, Mr Lorne?" The professor would manuever herself so as to walk side by side the student. With facial expression one of genuine curiosity. "Do you ever run into a Claire in your Guild?" Emiko asked as they continue their stroll, their destination just a short while longer. "Claire Sonozaki? I ask for ... personal reasons."

He'd not put up with this attitude from anyone else.
Orion bristled a little at her tone, which implied that being a hunter required about as much intelligence as falling off a log, but he chose to say nothing in reply. If the attrition rate held steady, he was certain that the only hunters left would be the ones with two brain cells to rub together. Perhaps then, their reputation would improve, and her contempt would be entirely unfounded. Still, it incensed him a bit to consider the possibility she thought that the reputation extended to him.
He'd been called a lot of things in his life, but stupid was not one of them. He'd been a university student since before he joined the Hunter's Guild, and the abject poverty of his family meant that he was in on scholarship. They didn't give scholarships to idiots. But as smart as the university students were, he knew that there were more than a few academics that didn't have an ounce of practical intelligence or common sense. As much as they thought themselves above the Guild, they would be the first to die if ever they found themselves in a combat situation, like the ones that the Hunters faced daily.
Besides, the woman didn't have the slightest idea what it really took to get promoted in the Hunter's Guild. No one was stupid enough to go blabbing about the hand that Kalidas played in all of it.
He glanced at her when she mentioned someone else, another Hunter apparently. Big as the guild was, he didn't think he'd ever heard that name before. There weren't all that many Huntresses to begin with, and most of the ones that he knew were Cyborgs. He didn't bother to learn most of their names. Only Agent Dullahan, and that one mostly against his will, because she conscripted him into some of her assignments.
"I don't think so," he said. "It's a big Guild. There are a lot of people I don't know."
He was relieved to see the coffee shop up ahead, and he held the door open, stopping to allow her to pass through first. Unintentionally rude as she was being, he was still on a mission, and that meant he had to keep her happy, whatever came out of her mouth.
