[attr="class","pDMain1791368560"] Let doubt take over and despair will cripple you... Post A consistent cracking of air reverberated throughout the cabin of the UH-60 Blackhawk as its blades whipped through the air mincing the low-oxygen altitude they were at. Sitting inside of the aft section of the helicopter's cabin Claire went about preparing herself silently by first undressing and slipping on a skin-tight medium gray with dark gray trim fiberweave bodysuit that covered her up to her neck after which she began piling the components of her tactical attire atop. Slipping a pair of low-profile grieves over her legs she'd gone around them synching the metallic leggings in by fastening their magnetic clamp locks and flexing her legs individually back and forth to ensure optimal maneuverability. Afterward Claire picked up and proceeded to put on a black half-jacket that clamped in the front in a V-shape with various pieces of light armoring over the shoulders and around her upper arms. Slipping on a pair of fingerless tactical gloves to finish off the ensemble Claire reached for her side arm – a G-19 Hunter's Guild issued pistol – before cocking back the chambering mechanism and checking the breach finally snapping it back as she smacked a clip into the bottom, cocking it again, and putting on the safety. Loading it into her hip holster she reached for her MKT-1371 Katana before hoisting it scabbard and all over her back and setting it there as the magnetic pad on her fiberweave bodysuit gripped the metallic sheen of the scabbard itself situating it into place. Finally, Claire grabbed at a G-36K Assault Rifle that sat situated on the wall of the cabin as she went about its pre-checks, pulling the bolt back, checking the breach, and loading it readying it to fire.[break][break]
As she'd gone through this lengthy process of getting prepared over the speaker in the back the pilot informed Claire they would be reaching the drop point in less than two minutes to what end Claire felt a sharp decline in altitude afterward as they descended towards the rugged terrain of the mountains. Finally when they'd gotten low enough to the ground Claire clipped on her rifled to her gear before smacking the release button to open the helicopter's cabin door. Without warning Claire shoved off from the platform the helicopter provided falling a good ways until finally she landed on the ground below plowing all two-hundred plus pounds of her body and tactical gear into it as her feet and leg took the brunt of the fall whilst she stabilized herself with her hand. Slowly Claire got to her feet gripping her assault rifle in one hand before giving the thumbs up to the pilot and watching them begin to leave. Putting her other hand up to the assault rifles' trigger, Claire reassessed the details of the operation she'd been assigned to that morning. Surveys had spotted a reportedly dishonorably discharged hunter living in the mountains amidst the denser terrain towards the base. Intelligence was sketchy on who this person was or what they looked like but sufficed to say the earmarks of a former hunter wouldn't be hard to spot. She was to go in, take him down, and wait for evac afterward with proof of her target's death in hand be it a stitch of clothing or their head. It didn't matter as long as the traitor were to die that evening a fitting death.[break][break]
With that in mind Claire took a deep breath before getting to it making her way through the wilderness towards the base of the mountain as the early mornings' sun began to rise making her job marginally easier as she traversed the terrain. Soon enough she would begin spotting subtleties that would gear her towards where this person might've been living. With intelligence being what it was though she doubted that she'd find them anytime soon preparing herself for a lengthy hunt as she wondered who this person was. She often mused about what these people might've been like as Hunter's before whatever happened to make them go AWOL. Of course it didn't matter in the end to what end she would often come to disregard those curiosities in order to simply do her job. In the end, just like they once were, she is a hunter – a solider – and unlike them she still had a job to do. After all, it seemed that it always would come down to the hunters' helper to clean up after these sort of messes. - MKT-1371 "Evelyn" Katana

Notes Just so you know her tactical gear doesn't add to her defense whatsoever. Its simply light gear for search and destroy operations like this that she wears. Post by Aiden Garnette on Aug 2, 2016 0:26:04 GMT
Post"Wicked" Aiden Garnette The morning air started off bitter and chilled; his bones felt stiff from having to sleep and huddle up on the ground. His vision had grown foggy, making out only the whitened outlines of trees as they were bathed in the morning's most rinsing cleanse of sunlight. Once his body started to flex and his mind cleared of the haze, he could stare from afar and inspect the blooming gardenias and wild flowers growing outside the shade of his own homey cave. His abs and chest stretched as he rolled farther up and got into a more comfortable position on the makeshift bed he had rolled out for himself.
He was deep in the withering mountains, lying just past a place on the eastern side of the eternally winding brook that carried on through the mountains, splashing over the jugular of rocks, and down to where it joined with the other stream and reached the waterfall. Past that, there was a tightly wedged crack in the rocks that would require any trespassers to squeeze through in order to gain entry. After that, they would find themselves in the place that he himself had named "Aiden's Grove" a quaint little slice of greenery with few blooming flowers and shady trees hanging high overhead. Weeds grew all over the place, accommodating the mosquitoes and dragonflies that called it a haven. It was because of them he had almost named it "Dragonfly Clearing".
For the dishonored hunter, it was the perfect spot to prevent detection while giving him enough privacy and solitude. As Aiden continued to brush the fuzz and dust off of his body, he noticed his prosthetic left arm was still reacting sluggishly and unevenly responsive compared to what it had been the day before. With enough of his body now feeling active, Aiden dully got to his feet and walked out into the clearing. On his person was a few hunting knives that he did use to skin and kill prey for his meals. It wasn't a festive occurrence, only a necessary one. The other possessions he had were a few necessities like a water canteen and some bark he carved with his knives when he was bored. Living alone in the mountains did suit him just fine, but it was the inactivity and inability to do anything of worth that got to him on occasion. He couldn't protect anyone, only roam in the mountains like a vagabond, waiting for the Guild to send actually capable men and women his way that he would have to kill and loot their belongings for information and more gear and weapons.
He squeezed himself between the crags of the two rocks, making his way out into the wide open before starting to run. He climbed the trees, scouring the mountains for pray as well as food. There were squirrels and quite a few wild game in these sections of the mountains, a fact that had helped him live well sometimes. Only recently, he had mustered up the will to make way into Dagos to fill his hunting supplies and that had come out rather well all things considered.
With keen eyes, he peered through the blossoming vines in search good pray to fill his stock of meat for the next few days. After a few minutes of moving silently, tiptoeing over twig-infested grounds, an enlarged deer caught his eye. Not because of the reason he wanted to though. The deer had been blissfully unaware of everything and Aiden was uphill, making for good chances that he would get the jump on it. That was before the animal suddenly lurched its neck up and stared down further in the opposite direction. Its sun-glossed ears twitched several times, but the silver-haired boy couldn't hear or detect any reason for it. That moment gave him pause, holding close to the ground with his feet literally cramping up a little so as not to further agitate or startle it. Once Aiden placed a hand to his ear though, he could hear a distant sound. It was buzzing. Not like a bee would hum over a flower, but like a high-powered motor of some sort.
He listened in closely, ignoring the fact that the deer then pounced off in the opposite direction, heading farther towards the West and away from the sound that seemingly emanated from the Northeast. As the sound became more pronounced, Aiden knew what it was. He couldn't tell for certain what it meant, but no good could possibly come from ignoring such a stark omen. He reached for his hunting knife and stalked off into the bushes, cautiously making his way towards the sound and keeping his body low to the ground so as to avoid being detected.

[attr="class","pDMain1791368560"] Let doubt take over and despair will cripple you... Post Humping the over two-hundred pounds of her prosthetic body over the mountainous terrain Claire made good pace using her legs as pogo-sticks to bound up and lift off of various rock formations. With each jump she scanned her surroundings looking for signs of life be it an encampment, smoke, signs of hunting, even footprints if they were to be found in such an area; anything that could've identified a clear path to where she'd needed to go. When she'd gotten to the drop point right off she'd spotted some things that caught her attention here and there and had given her a rough direction but early on those signs had grown cold to what end all that she could do is follow the current path set for her. Eventually though that trail would begin to pick up again as she stumbled across the remains of a relatively recently cleaned kill. Its bones along with parts of its hide had been methodically stripped away from its muscle tissue likely so that what the Hunter had scavenged could be transported more easily. From the looks of it Claire could tell by the horn-like protrusions on its skull and the maggots that seemed to be feasting on what was let of its remains that it was a mountain goat, likely an older male at that, and it had been dead for nearly two days roughly. It wasn't much to go on in the grand scheme of things, especially since she couldn't see a trail of blood or in what way it had been killed, but it was something nevertheless.[break][break]
With that Claire found herself moving on again steadily through the mountainous terrain finding several smaller spots similar to that one where her target had killed and cleaned the animal on sight. It seemed that so far they'd been doing relatively well for themselves given the circumstances, though they'd made a few mistakes by doing what they did. Not cleaning up their kills left evidence and while not all of it was fresh some of it still lingered in the scrapings against insides of the animals C2 through C4 neck vertebrae where it seemed as if a knife had been used to slit their throats. It was an efficient form of killing of course which she'd no less come to expect from a former Hunter but it was a telltale sign of what was at their disposal as well. None of the animals which she'd seen so far had signs of blunt force trauma from arrow wounds or bullet holes painting a picture for her that quite possibly this person could be well limited to short-range combat at the moment. This much was a vital piece of information for Claire now having a basis to work off of when she did find it knowing that while she couldn't confirm it she could at least expect their ranged capabilities to be limited at best. It was a definitive breakthrough among the many that she'd come to find after that until she finally unearthed precisely what she'd need to capture her prey.[break][break]
After running through the terrain for several hours Claire would come across a rather jagged part of the mountains' base that seemed to be devoid of most life and looked well-guarded. As a Hunter herself she knew it was the perfect place to hide because it lent to its resident tactically as well as defensively. To that end Claire began to gingerly snoop around the area being cautious to avoid the more treacherous areas nearby as well as any traps this hunter may or may have not set up. Eventually Claire would find herself on one of the taller rock formations jutting off of the mountain peering out over the horizon when she spotted the tiniest bit of foliage peeking out over a small area not far from her position. From a distance it seemed relatively closed off to her though as she got closer and finally saw it up close there was a small break in the rock formations which would've allowed for narrow passage. Noting that Claire pulled her assault rifle close to her chest keeping her finger on the trigger as she shimmied her way into a small clearing dusted with greenery and light swarms of dragonflies. Immediately upon entering she pulled her rifle up close and quickly shifted around the clearing in a three-hundred sixty degree pattern surveying the surroundings intent on shooting anything that so much as slightly moved.[break][break]
Eventually, after a few minutes of examining the clearing she'd determined that it was clear but that it had been recently lived in too. A fire was still smoldering next to what looked like a makeshift bed and preserved animal carcasses were strung up on makeshift rack and set to try into jerky. It seemed whoever had been here had made this place a home for themselves which made sense to her given the smell fresh water grotto that she'd come across just beyond a small bit of foliage to the back of the clearing. It was the perfect place to set up camp for a Dishonored Hunter bring them only to need to hunt every now and then to live relatively well-off amidst their mountainous paradise. However, unfortunately for them, that was about to all end. This paradise they'd once called home would end up being their grave as Claire hatched a brilliant idea to catch them entirely off guard. Carefully she did her best to leave everything untouched within the camp coming to crouch near the entrance behind a bit of foliage to ambush them when they arrived back there. It was a simple plot of course but one that was a relatively done deal given the surroundings. With that in mind Claire poised her sights on the entrance lying in wait for them to waltz through it to their demise. - MKT-1371 "Evelyn" Katana

Post"Wicked" Aiden Garnette With a lightened step and carrying little on his person, Aiden made quick work of navigating over and through the landscape heading NE through the quietly winding valley. With his prosthetic arm reacting like it was filled to the elbow with mud, he took only the few necessary chances. He couldn't crawl well with one arm and his body wasn't adept exactly when it came to staying small and condensed to make a more uneven and hidden target. If any traps had been set up, he would just have to use the reflexes and wide field of vision that he had cultivated during his extended period of exile to stay out of trouble.
As he moved along, he kept watch the smaller things in nature, the swaying of the wildflowers that grew frequently and widespread around this neck of the mountain along with the direction of the wind. With every baited breath, Aiden was certain his target would barge down from the area of higher elevation where he had heard the strong sound of a motor running. He sifted his body tenderly through the grasslands, avoiding areas with little cover and opting to take the longer route around some points of interest. There were higher cliffs and rockier portions that he avoided, for fear of alerting his hunters, even if they would've gotten him to his destination faster. The roundabout route he chose was along the underside of the mountain canyon, trailing over several hills and deep cavern caves.
At last, he reached a vantage point where he could catch the faintest whiff of something afoul in the air. It stuck out sourly and bitterly, so easily recognizable to him. The stench of exhaust lingering closely by left little to no doubt in Aiden's mind that a helicopter or possibly a truck or other vehicle had been by this exact spot, but for what reason? He had been extra careful to keep his presence and hiding spot hidden from the Hunter's Guild. There was a distinct possibility that they had uncovered his ruse, but the likelihood of that was uncertain. Aiden had not been looking for unwanted attention, especially if Kalidas sent any personal agents after him. He peered around the area, sharply constructing the remains of the area and the details. The trees were splintered and a few branches were lying, but not from any physical intervention that looked unnatural. Scanning the eastern side of the babbling brook, Aiden couldn't find any other obvious evidence of hunters having come through the place. If any large force had passed through, the trail would be obvious.
He kept searching for several more minutes, not dropping his guard for a moment as he made his rounds around his most known routes. Tracing a circular path from the Aiden's Haven to the west and northeast, the silver-haired boy continued to hunt for any sign that the Hunter's Guild had arrived, only to find none throughout his trip.
The farthest spots of his territory looked no different, possibly only having been passed by animals. He strode a little further and closer to Aiden's Haven, inspecting the groves around his home with careful suspicion. Nothing seemed to stand out at all. If anything (or anyone) had gotten past him, they had moved expertly and left little to no trace that they'd ever been. Once he was certain that the coast was clear, Aiden walked down to the river and promptly splashed his face with some water to clear away the sweat pouring down his features. The cold, bracing rivers woke him up and refreshed him after a moment as his mind was still whirring away to figure out the mystery.
With his shirt drenched, Aiden cautiously walked back to his Haven and wedged himself between the two rocks to reach his home sweet home....

[attr="class","pDMain1791368560"] Let doubt take over and despair will cripple you... Post Amidst the foliage Claire found herself splitting her focus for a time, listening intently for any signs of life, but also admiring the greenery and atmosphere around her. It wasn't often that she had a chance to be around such serene natural beauty and to a point it entranced her, albeit slightly. Had it not been for the fact that she was there on a job she might've found a place like this to be the perfect getaway given how secluded it was. It was so much so that she nearly found it a shame to do what she needed to in such a place but she knew it couldn't be helped. Life was what it was and she was a soldier – a Hunter – whose duty was to snuff out those who'd sought to defile the Goddess's name. Regardless of how she felt about doing it in a certain place she knew that the bloody deed would come to pass sooner or later either here or somewhere else; that was just a fact. To that end Claire put her location out of her mind and went to check and recheck her gear several times ensuring that everything was situated and ready for when the dishonored one came through that crevice.[break][break]
Time would seem to stand still for her for a while as she sat there staring blankly off into the distance with little more on her mind at the time than the hunt. Every now and then she would repeat in her mind the mantra that she'd been taught in the training camp way back when coming to subconsciously reiterate it thinking to herself "Breath. Relax. Aim. Slack. Squeeze. Breath. Relax. Aim. Slack. Squeeze. Breath. Relax. Aim. Slack. Squeeze. Breath. Relax. Aim. Slack. Squeeze. Breath. Relax. Aim. Slack. Squeeze…" The mantra itself was an acronym used by the Hunter's elite scout snipers affectionately called 'The B.R.A.S.S. Method' and was often also used as a way to acclimatize new recruits to using a gun as they trained. While most who weren't snipers would often forget this and would haphazardly fire their guns without thinking Claire on the other hand took the mantra to heart often reminding herself of it in situations like these. It reminded her to slow down, to assess the situation, and to process the entire scene without wasting effort or ammunition in the heat of chaos. However, not even that would entirely prepare her for what would come next.[break][break]
Nearly two hours after she'd crouched into the foliage she could hear the soft methodical pitter-patter of feet in the distance while the gravel beneath them lurched as they made their way toward her position. With each step Claire would repeat the five steps of B.R.A.S.S. coming to take a breath, relax her mind so that her body would be more at ease, check where she was aiming, pull her synthetic digit tighter on the trigger mechanism of her assault rifle, and finally just as she saw motion in front of her she would fire. Though, that was not quite how it happened. Instead she would come to perform the four first steps falling short of the fifth as an arm reached in and snowy white locks emerged from around the corner. The man's face, his body, and the way he composed himself; it was all slightly different, slightly scruffier than it used to be, but she would've known that man's face anywhere without a doubt in her mind. It was the face of a ghost – a literal dead man – whose rotten attitude had earned him a prosthetic arm just like her own body. It was the face of a man who had come to betray the guild as well as she herself by extension in that he'd purportedly allied himself with the Magi rebels and attempted to take her own master's life. This man… was scum whose life should've ended on the battlefield more than eight years ago. So why? Why was he here?[break][break]
Without words at first Claire popped up from her position aiming her gun at him, squeezing the trigger to take up the slack once more, before firing a single warning shot just to the side of his head enough to get his attention. She didn't want to kill him… yet… she wanted to know why and how he was here. She wanted to get to the bottom of why a dead man, a remnant of her worst and most painful memories, was standing before her looking as if nothing had happened. To that end Claire fumbled with her words in her mind at first as pure rage filled her synapses and she belted out "DOWN ON THE GROUND! NOW! Hands behind your head! Legs spread apart! DO IT!" Coming to say only a few moments later in a slightly calmer voice "You… were dead. I killed you with my OWN… bare… f***ing hands… Why..? You tell me NOW… why you are here… or so help me I'll put a bullet in your god damned skull and finish the job!" - MKT-1371 "Evelyn" Katana

Post by Aiden Garnette on Aug 7, 2016 9:13:26 GMT
Post"Wicked" Aiden Garnette Kalidas certainly knew how to get under his skin. No sooner had Aiden pulled himself through the bare opening in the crags was he greeted by his old friend; the white-haired girl from his past life looked quite similar to the one he had known her in childhood. He stood stock still at that moment, poised and transfixed by this development. Should he be surprised at this moment? Convinced that the whims of destiny had a crude and ironic sense of humor? Or should he be appalled that he had made such a delinquent error in thinking that the Hunter's Guild had seemingly remeasured his threat level and sent only a single agent to eliminate him? The fact that it was Claire, the girl who had both taken his real arm and killed him eight years ago, only made the joke more tragic.
It was obvious that this wasn't lost on Claire either as her rage was all-too-easily conveyed in her words and body language while Aiden was able to stay calm and composed for time being. Joke or not, the warning shot that split the air a mere few inches from his head was serious and uncompromising in its intent; Claire wasn't going to easily back down here. As she demanded, Aiden lucidly placed his hands behind his head and dropped down to the ground to spread his legs for her with a crude, nonthreatening smirk. It was quite obvious that his former contemporary was a bit shaken as well to find him alive; apparently the Guild had neglected to fill her in on his information. It wouldn't be like them to be completely in the dark over his survival of the Genocide in Dagos.
He still couldn't tell Claire why he was here, but the fact that she was shaken did give him a bit of hope of turning this situation to his advantage. She seemed angry, but also confused and that was his opportunity. "It turns out Claire that when you slit a man's neck, he doesn't die as immediately as you'd think. A little care package dropped in my lap and made me good as new. Turns out, there are elements who saw it was to their advantage to not let me die after all..." he leaned forward a little bit, hands still firmly entrenched behind his head so as to give a less threatening appearance.
"Claire, listen to me. If the guild didn't tell you that I survived, then there has to be a reason right? What do you think that reason is heh? I know you have your loyalty and devoutness towards Kalidas, but please hear me out before you decide to pull that trigger. This isn't just about you or me; the Guild is being used. The people up top don't care about you and they never did."
He tried his best to speak clearly and kindly, not dropping his guardedness though in case Claire had changed completely and no longer had a reason to listen to him at all. He did owe her though. He wouldn't have gotten where he was now if it weren't for her (in a manner of speaking) so the least he could do was try and explain this and take advantage of her confusion. At best, he would gain an ally and perhaps get through this situation without the situation from 8 years ago being repeated. If the worst happened though, Aiden prepared himself to grab for his saxe knife that was hidden and sheathed beneath his belt.

[attr="class","pDMain1791368560"] Let doubt take over and despair will cripple you... Post "That smirk…" Claire thought to herself as her teeth gnashed against one another and anger infused her neural pathways setting her artificial synapses on fire. It was the same smirk that she'd seen that day right before she'd lunged at him and had torn off his arm. Isn't it..? Claire questioned herself internally finding her eyes focused on his facial expression as if she were trying to hack into his biology and decode just what it was that he was thinking. Everything felt like a blur of rage fueled protocol rigorously playing out despite herself as she commanded him around bringing him to drop to his knees. She didn't know what to make of the situation or why of all people they'd sent her after him. Was this some sort of a twisted joke? Was it their way of telling her to take revenge on him? No, the Guild's top brass didn't work like that and if that were the case they would've told her the details. Did they know it was Aiden she'd been ordered to hunt? She couldn't say either way having gotten the inkling in the past certain details were often kept out of the provided intelligence. So just what the hell was it? What in the hell was going on?[break][break]
With her finger poised and pressed snugly up against the trigger she found her facial features contorted into a snarl grasping at the bitter remains of his initial quips. To that end she growled back saying "Don't f*** with me Aiden! I'm not a god damned fool! I'm well aware of how long it takes for someone to bleed out when you slice open their carotid artery and I know that you're happy ass shoulda been six feet under that day! So cut the god damned s*** and tell me the f***ing truth! NOW! Or so help me, I swear, I'll make you REGRET lying to me!" Nearly foaming at the mouth at that point if she could have Claire resituated the gun in her arms nearly pulling the trigger a number of times as Aiden went off on a tangent testing her patience. As he spoke Claire pursed her lips and shook her head taking in a deep breath before contorting her lips into a scowl once more. She didn't want to listen to him but at the same time she wanted to know how he'd survived and what in the world this was all about. She wanted to hear the truth more than she wanted to kill him at that point and time to what end she resisted the urge to end it all right then and there, coming to hear him out as best as her frayed tolerance would allow.[break][break]
What he said did little to sway her as she continued to fume while begrudgingly listening to him. All that had come out of his mouth so far was petty implications with little basis in fact as far as she was concerned. The only thing that she found even remotely substantial was the fact that they hadn't told her that he'd survived which could've been explained off as errors in intelligence or simply just not knowing either way. It wasn't something that she hadn't questioned when she'd first encountered him among a slew of other things but at the end of the day it could be explained off. However, as he finished and the silence dragged on between that meagerly crafted bit of information would slowly begin to take root and blossom. Once the silence had fallen between them it allowed her to slowly recollect herself bringing her mind to a more rational state as she went over the events from eight years past. She'd known for some time now that Aiden had been listed as dishonorably discharged as well as M.I.A. – Missing In Action – which brought her to wonder why, especially after the inquiry, that hadn't been changed to K.I.A., or rather Killed In Action. It was a small insignificant thing that she'd long-since ignored figuring that it was part of the red tape that usually surrounding those sorts of things but now she was beginning to question that. Why would they list a Hunter who was reportedly killed – and a dishonorably discharged one at that – as missing? It didn't make any sense and it fell beyond the jurisdiction of a simple clerical error.[break][break]
Now, while that didn't necessarily prove anything she had to admit – even though she didn't want to – that it was fishy and lent a shred of merit to his claim. With that in mind after having paused for quite a while Claire replied back in a calmer frame of mind "You have five minutes to tell me everything that you know. It had better be the absolute honest truth and it had better be convincing. If you try anything stupid I will blow your head off of your body, do you understand me?" Pausing for acknowledgement she continued on saying "You have five minutes Aiden. Remember that and don't take my graces for granted. Now speak." - MKT-1371 "Evelyn" Katana

Post"Wicked" Aiden Garnette It seemed like Claire wasn't going to give him quarter here. She yelled and cursed while Aiden's expression was more and more stone-faced. So there was nothing he could do to persuade Claire without a fight huh? Very well then, he would try to reason with her as best he could. He looked up and stared at that pretty face, blinded and clearly angry, but also genuinely spooked he could tell. Would telling her the truth really help his cause here or would she throw it back at him and pull the trigger anyways? That scenario wasn't likely; he could note clearly that Claire wasn't going to pull the trigger cause his previous words had done at least enough to ensure that he was safe until Claire deemed him no worthy cause. It had had little effect, but the snarling words were enough for him to read between the lines.
Her mind was whirring, searching for the logic and if his explanation satisfied her, she wouldn't kill him. Time for him to do what he could "Alright then. I'll tell you why I'm here Claire. Because your bosses planned on offing you that day 8 years ago. The day you nearly killed me." Aiden took a deep breath, readying himself to spill everything he knew, "You know I was a part of the Hunters for the longest time Claire... and in that time I saw too much. I saw cruelty. I saw what the Hunters did to the Magi. I went traitor long before that when I started gathering information on the top of the organization, the ones most devout to Kalidas. I couldn't act before the genocide, but one of my targets had been the lady you called a boss. She and several others were my targets. As luck would have it, I got wind of a plot before the breakout happened."
Aiden studied Claire, feeling out for if his words were having any effect. He couldn't read Claire like a book, but there were signs that he was breaking through in a few areas. "I talked to one of her long-distance confidantes in Dagos. They're all dirty Claire. All of them. Whether you believe me or not is up to you, but they will try to kill you again. They'll take the chance when the opportunity presents itself. Sending you after me is also a key to them." He pulled his hands into full view, letting Claire know he was still open. The name then also popped into his head.
"Zaera Alshua... I remember her name now. She's a renowned Magi-killer. I ranked her with a 5 on my scale of the most dangerous Hunters in that organization. She's also ruthless. The confidante I contacted told me that Zaera had found a pupil. It wasn't much more than that at first.. other than implications that Zaera planned to do something big. She was disdainful of you though. She took you aboard, thinking you'd be disposable later on." he said with a straight-face, calmly measuring how Claire would take that little bit of information.
"It just so happened on that day that I decided to betray the Hunter's Guild. I killed several hunters on my way out the door while saving several Magi from elimination. That was until I came upon you and Zaera." he hinted darkly with a single pointed finger, "You did take me by surprise with your movements, but luckily it was the Magi that decided to repay me for saving them and spirited me away while you weren't looking. They're the reason I'm still breathing I'm afraid."
For the first time in the speech, Aiden grinned remorsefully. "So that is the most of it. All except for failing to get at those same 5 Hunters these past few years. I don't have the strength yet to break into Guild HQ or assassinate Arata as I've been working on. That's the bastard who has been trailing me for a while now. I thought perhaps it might've been him who had come to find me. Not that I'm not pleased though. I'm honestly glad fate hates me now."

[attr="class","pDMain1791368560"] Let doubt take over and despair will cripple you... Post In truth Claire didn't want to hear his words but at the same time something inside of her did. She wanted to shoot him and be done with this almost laughable exchange but at the same time her mind simply wouldn't allow it. If anything, for whatever reason, she needed to know why he was still here and why that night had gone down when it had. Why did he rig the Magi kid with a bomb if he was a Magi supporter? If he did, then why did he try to kill Zaera? Moreover, why did Zaera make the call to move forward when the whole scenario in retrospect was a clear setup? Finally, why and how in the bloody seven hells was Aiden still alive and here of all places? Those were just some of the questions burning a hole through her mind bringing her to find dead end after brick wall in any way of an answer to it all. To that end she had no choice but to let him finish what he needed to say and try to fill what gaps she could. So, with that, begrudgingly she gave him the only stint of leeway that she would in the interaction thus far telling him that he had five minutes to explain everything and that if it wasn't convincing she'd blow his brains out right then and there. Though, as she did that, it dawned on her that what if what he said made sense? Where would that much leave her? She didn't know and the idea of it made her uneasy much like that night had when they'd approached the Magi child. There were just too many variables that she didn't know as well as gaps in her information that had the potential to do more damage than not knowing.[break][break]
With that, and a sickly unease spreading over the space between the two of them, Aiden began with a blunt air about him. He told her flat out from the get-go that the higher-ups had planned on offing her to what end she had to choke back a retorting comment shifting the gun around in her hands dangerously as he went on. In the next few moments he would suggest and then come to even blatantly implicate Zaera, her master, as directly having tried to off her during the genocide and having had plans to do it all along. On top of that he'd go on to say that they were using her – that they were dirty and they'd been actively planning this whole thing all along – and that Zaera herself was disdainful of her having only taken her on as a pupil to use her as a disposable body. This much rattled Claires' inner core as her teeth grit together inside of her cybernetic jaw. A slight snarl came over her facial features urging to stop him and shoot him dead right then but despite that burning urge she couldn't help but compulsively choke it down. Did she believe him? Of course not. How could she have? Zaera had been the only one who had given her a shot even if she'd been rough around the edges with her. Claire couldn't digest the idea that she was trying to kill her, at least not purposefully. However, even as she thought that she couldn't internalize what had happened and in particular why Zaera had made the call to move forward into a trap like she had. It just didn't make sense given Zaera's past and experience in situations like that bringing Claire to falter if only for a second in what she'd always thought was an immutable truth.[break][break]
In that time she'd begun to space out in the wake of what she'd learned barely having noticed Aiden moving his hands in front of him but still alert enough to take action if he'd tried anything. What he'd told her was so much to take in that she could barely think. Claire didn't know what to feel at that point or what to say having analyzed both the situation and his words in the interim over and over again. Something didn't make sense here and it was beginning to gnaw at her despite herself inciting doubt in her logic. Moreover, as he continued on and told her about how he'd survived, how the Magi had saved him, and his plans one aspect of that night during the genocide came to make less and less sense. That much was so much so that after he'd finally come to finish instead of taking him into custody or putting a bullet between his eyes she idly spewed the words "… What… about that Magi kid you rigged with a bomb..?" coming to snap her attention back to the foreground when she realized what she'd said. Narrowing her eyes into him she reiterated the question coming to say "The Magi kid, the one you rigged to explode, why would you do that if this were all true?" Getting more heated she growled "If you were helping the Magi like you claimed and you were trying to save me why and the hell would you strap a damned bomb to a kid and try to blow my ass up? Tell me Aiden." After having asked that Claire came to realize that the scowl she'd bore during the first bits of his explanation had washed away from her facial expression muting her features to the point she'd looked taken aback. Out of everything that Aiden had told her, even the fact that Zaera had tried to kill her, that one question popped out in her mind and would come to be the missing puzzle piece in this entire thing. Depending on what he said it could substantiate his claim or reveal his fallacies for what they were. Whatever the case may have been what may have come next would've ultimately defined this interaction and irreparably altered her perception of what she'd believed for the last eight years, or simply could have confirmed what she'd believed from the get-go. His answer would tell her either way, and either way she would have to live with what came next. - MKT-1371 "Evelyn" Katana
