It had started off a relatively ordinary morning. With it being too early to start working, and with little else to do until the night, Reine had planned on going wandering through Dagos to see if he could find some hidden place that actually sold decent Surajan food. Perhaps it was a bit of homesickness, but he'd been craving it as of late and every 'Surajan' shop sold food that was either in name only or paltry in comparison.
With a radio on in the background, Reine had just been preparing to leave when a particular broadcast had caught his attention, in particular the voice of Prime Minister Yoko Shimomura of Ikigai. "An announcement directly from the Prime Minister herself? And here I'd thought she usually left announcements to her ministers..." Reine listened as the broadcast invited magi to Ikigai, to bring in the New Year celebrations, preferably in the peace of no riots. As the broadcast ended and returned to musak, Reine wondered for a little while if he should take it up. He'd only just moved to Ethea and besides, he'd been lucky enough to only arrive in Ikigai after the Second Magi Riots.
But even so, the thought of returning to Ikigai was quite welcome, especially to see Fairuz again. And if not that, the thought of returning to an Ikigain culture festival was worth the price of admission in and of itself! Deciding for once to toss his Ethean business to the wind for the time being, Reine started making plans to head to Ikigai...

A week or so later, he'd finally managed to reach Ikigai. Granted, it wasn't quite where he'd planned to go - he'd hoped to visit the main island but was only able to organise a visit to the north-western island of Ikigai at first. But then, at least that was a new experience in itself as he'd never yet actually visited this island, despite his wandering. "I guess there's always something new to find..." Reine whistled a merry tune as he walked through the streets of the Ikigaian cultural festival, dressed in the traditional Ikigain clothing he owned: a simple blue kimono. It was hardly the most fancy thing, but as much as he enjoyed immersing himself in the culture Reine preferred not to stick out too much.
Reine always enjoyed immersing himself in the culture of other worlds, and while Suraja would always be home, there was something about Ikigaian culture that always intrigued him in a way no other culture quite did (though Reine wondered, if pressed, whether he'd say that about every country). Was it their food, was it their history...? Reine wasn't sure. The one thing he was sure about though, was that he was hungry. Though it didn't help many of the stalls were currently rather crowded with people currently - though there was one particular stall that managed to catch his interest for a while...
But even that couldn't keep him still for long, and with thanks to the stall-keeper, he kept walking on his way, searching for some tasty food and humming an old Ikigain tune that he'd heard his sister sing to her younger students. It put Reine in quite a good mood, soaking up the atmosphere.

Notes: 542 words. Why does Ikigai have so many tasty foods?! The choice is unbearable!
