See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. The sheer amount of enthusiasm and joy was certainly a plus. However, with great excitement came great energy. Which in turn demanded great energy to deal with said energy. Basically, in summary, Surai knew she was going to be utterly exhausted after this whole festival business. Ah, but it’s so worth it. Seeing the kids all happy and bustling about the streets of Ikigai brought a soft smile to the woman’s face. It was hard keeping them all together, but for the most part they were allowed to explore (with one of the orphanage staff keeping watch, of course). After the terror of the riots and the hardships of the orphanage’s divide, this celebration was exactly what they all needed. Surai included. At some point Surai finally got the chance to get off her feet. And when that opportunity came up, she took it with a sigh of relief. From the moment they’d gotten there, it had been like an ongoing party. Hell, one of her coworkers had even insisted on them all getting some of the traditional wear in honor of the celebration. Which was how Surai ended up sitting there in some admittedly lovely blue kimono that someone had picked out for her with her hair actually up for once. Hey it was comfortable and a wonderful blue: she wasn’t complaining. While she sat on a (god sent) bench, she still kept watch over her little group. Which had blessedly stopped to just play around with some of the fun items and snacks they’d gotten in their little grand tour of the festival. It was a break in their continuous exploration that the “chaperones” were immediately grateful for. Oh if only it could last. Just as Surai was starting to relax, she spotted one of her young ones waddling off on their own. A groan left Surai before she could help herself. But even so, their was a rueful smile on her face as she forced herself to her feet. ”Ain’t no rest for the wicked." the woman silently sung to herself before hurrying after her adventurous tater tot. Her feet, naturally, ached in protest at the interruption to their rest. Maybe I should actually give spas a try after this. genuinely considering the idea or not, the brunette was swift to find where her little one had gone off to. They just seemed generally fascinated by the wonderful scenery. Surai couldn’t blame them for that. But still, it wasn’t a good thing for them to wander off. Plus now they seemed to be pestering someone else. That’s no good. ”Keaton!" She called out, temporarily stealing the little one’s attention. Soon after she was besides the little one, a smile on her face regardless. ”You shouldn’t wander off like that! We’d all get really worried if we couldn’t find you." Cue the flash of guilt across the child’s face. Which Surai did her best to dispel with a squeeze to their shoulder. ”I know Ikigai is very pretty, but we’ll have plenty of time to go exploring together. Don’t you worry."Now then, onto the next person she ought to address. Blue eyes turned to the tiny one’s target. ”Sorry about that. It’s our first time at an event quite like this, and we’re all a little excited." An understatement, really. 594 WORDS FOR Anyone who dares suffer the wrath of a tiny inquisitive child probably just looking for more snacks or possibly complimenting your choice of clothes. It was all Aya's fault, really. He'd heard about the invitation to the festival, but he wasn't a magi - his cybernetics made it impossible regardless of what he'd been born as - and he saw no point in leaving Dagos to go to some stupid fancy festival. He hadn't ever even left thecity, he'd reasoned. Which had been Aya's argument, as well. They ought to get out a little, she said. Get a little culture, she said.
Culture. Sure. Damien scowled as he watched Aya weave off through the crowd to get some sort of interesting looking food from one of the stands. She wore a green kimono and the widest smile that he'd seen in months. Damien scowled again. He knew little of Ikigai aside from the fact that his father's people were apparently from the place, which didn't exactly tempt him into experiencing more of it.
He tilted his head back and examined the sky, noting the lack of perpetual smog that coated the Dagos slums. Absently, he entertained a thought - just staying here. Never returning to Dagos, letting his debts and disappointments rot there. He could become a mechanic or maybe some kind of engineer. Aya could go to school.
The dream balloon popped when a tiny child started badgering him and Damien was....unsure? of what to do? Children unnerved him as a concept. So small. So fragile. They cried a lot and got hungry or sick or tired. Damien didn't dislike them, but he certainly felt out of his element around them. Thank gods the thing's....mother....came to collect it.
Oh fuck, now she was speaking to him. He couldn't snarl and brush her off because what if the kid started crying? He couldn't be responsible for that. His social skills were stretched beyond their capacity. How did people avoid conversations normally?
"Me too," he replied with a shrug that he hoped was a casual as he didn't feel. "First time away from Dagos City, actually." Nice to meet you, he thought snottily. I'm a cyborg drug dealer. What's your son's name?

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. Fortunately it didn’t look like Surai’s lost one had irritated the man too badly. Hopefully at least. Although she was in for a bit of a surprise since it sounded like this man was also a tourist. Wow, someone else? ”Dagos huh? We’re from Camlorn. Seems like a lot of people have come in from Ethea for the festival. Not that I can really blame them." After the rioting, everyone had needed some time away from the insanity. It was nice for the Ikigain government to make such an offer. Although Surai had a feeling there was more to it, but ah well- she wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth. She needed this. Though most people might not see it as a vacation, considering she still had a plethora of children to look after. ”It’s definitely a lot different than Ethea." Which I don't really mind. That part got left unsaid. But it wasn't just the scenery; the feel of the place as well felt different. Magi were actually walking around freely here. The same heavy tension she could feel in Ethea (especially so soon after the curfew law) was gone. It was nice. Though it made her miss her real home somehow. ”Are you enjoying the festival so far though?" Surai thought to ask politely. Their group had run into a few other Etheans who’d looked like they were having a good time so far. This man looked….more like he’d been about to snarl at the tiny one Surai had went after than anything. Which was part of the reason she’d hoped he hadn’t been irritated too much.

Damien had never been to Camlorn, only vaguely registering it as one of the Not Dagos places in the world. He knew that it existed, had even heard a little bit about it, but to a city boy like Damien, anything outside the Dagos limits was Country. Backwater. Damien gave the woman and the kid a quick once-over. They didn't look like hicks.
Ikigai made him feel wrong-footed, off balance. Everything was different, but not, and Damien found himself making eye contact with the Ikigain's and feeling like he'd intruded somehow. Like they took one look at him and knew that he didn't belong.
He crossed his arms over his chest, jerked his chin in the direction that Aya had gone, "My sister's idea. Some family's from here, so she's embracing the culture or something," He shrugged. "I like the food back home better."
He paused, awkwardly realizing the amount of rambling, pointless facts that he'd shared and felt his face heat up, "Uhh. How old is your son?"

See the line where the sky meets the sea; It calls me. Sister huh? Surai glanced away towards where the man had indicated, but there was no one there. Upon hearing the rest of his words, Surai couldn’t help but smirk a little. ”I’m guessing she left you behind to go get some food then?" Considering he was supposedly here with her, yet she was nowhere in sight. And if she was anything like Surai’s own siblings, then that’s exactly what they’d do too. Speaking of them did make her a little homesick though. ”I agree with you though: nice as this all is I miss food from home." Of course, she was speaking of Suraja rather than Ethea. Although Ethea was nice too. Plus familiar now that she’d lived there for so long. Were her taste buds acclimating finally? Maybe a visit home really was in order. But there were other things to address. Like the fact the man thought the little one was actually her child. Both figures seemed to blink for a moment before sharing a look with each other. Surai didn’t want to embarrass the man too much, judging from the red now on his cheeks. It was a bit hard, however, to keep the amused smile on her face in check. ”Oh, he’s not actually my son. I’m just one of his caretakers." Although truthfully she was as close to a mother as he had now. Along with, what twelve others or so? ”There’s actually a group of us here from an orphanage. After the…events in Ethea, we decided that taking our kids to the festival would be a nice change of scenery. Which it certainly has been, albeit crazy in its own way."Surai glanced down at her once runaway “son” before looking back at Damien. Now the smile on her face was a little lopsided. And showed just a hint of the tiredness Surai felt. Particularly that her feet felt. ”Ever try taking care of twenty plus kids in a festival setting? It’s a great way to test your endurance." Though once she said that she looked down at her tiny tot and gave his shoulder a squeeze. ”Although I can certainly understand why you’re all so excited to be here. Still, you can't just run off unexpectedly. Or bother nice men and women randomly." She scolded lightly, getting a sheepish look in return. 407 WORDS FOR Damien Lang ― Surai: [looks at with concern]

"Yeah," he huffed a smile. "There was some kind of meat on a stick that she was real excited about." On the way from Dagos to Ikigai, Aya had taken out her tablet and made a list of every single food item that she wanted to try. Damien, scowling, had refused to participate, insisting that he was only going to the festival in the first place to keep an eye on Aya. Although some of the fish dishes got his mouth watering. Not that he would admit it.
He turned a bright shade of red when he realized that she wasn't the kid's mother, his shoulders climbing up to his ears. Maybe he could find an alleyway to go die in. "Oh," he said, dumbly. "Uh. Sorry? I didn't mean that you look - um - that you seem -" Motherly? No, some people wanted to be that. Old? She was really quite pretty, which was making matters worse. "Fuuu-" his eyes widened as he remembered the presence of the kid and he corrected mid-word. "-dge."
Maybe a meteor would hit Ikigai and he would burn to death.
He cleared his throat uncomfortably, "Uhhh, no. I've never even taken care of one kid in a regular setting. We seem to avoid each other on instinct." Plus, his typical scowling, snarling manner probably scared them off, but that was neither here nor there. "I'm not very patient," he elaborated. He nearly winced at being called a 'nice man,' but kept his features blank. He didn't comment on it, pressing on against the choking feeling of awkwardness. "How did you - did you have to go to school for your job?"
