See the line where the sky meets the sea;
It calls me.
It calls me.
After some eye-opening (as always) advice from a certain deity of knowledge, Surai decided she ought to spend her last day in Haven doing exactly what she should have been doing: spending time with her kids before she had to go.
Which meant they were getting up to shenanigans like no other.
It warmed the teacher’s heart to see her children adapting to Haven so quickly. Sure she could still see the traces of sorrow and hesitation that lined the expressions of some of the older children. But for the most part they were getting along well within the hidden magi city. They still had each other after all. Plus the human and her coworkers had managed through stubbornness to set up some sort of system that might let the two orphanages communicate with each other without compromising the city. No way were they about to abandon their kids just like that; no matter how well taken care of they were by Haven’s residents. They simply weren’t going to do that to the kids.
Fortunately it was good though. As the day wore on Surai felt more and more at ease leaving the children here. It simply felt safer. Not to mention how beautiful it was! Eyes no longer stuck with tunnel-vision due to worry, the woman could appreciate haven for all it was worth.
Well, as much as she could while being led around by a bunch of energetic kids.
”Oooooh Michael that’s amazing!" The woman praised from where she sat, watching some of her kids test out their powers. Michael in question had successfully created a tiny cloud in his hands and eagerly showed it to the caretaker. That was a nice thing too: the children were really allowed to play around with their magi abilities here. So it was wonderful to watch them experiment with and test out their own capabilities. Like the young boy currently doing his darnedest to weave a flower crown into Surai’s hair. it was a slow, messy process, but the surajan was beaming nonetheless.
This. This was exactly what she had needed: Irilys was right. As always, of course.
But as much as Surai was enjoying “playing” with the kids, she was also watching them. Once a teacher, always a teacher. Luckily they all seemed to be behaving. Plus playing with children that weren’t even from their little orphanage group. Some of the children from Haven seemed curious about their new fellow residents and had come out to meet-and-greet. Which ended up turning the whole affair into one enormous play date with Surai sitting in the epicenter of it. There were other staff members (and a few parents, she assumed) watching as well, but she was one of the ones mostly involved with the kids. Especially when it came to being shown all the crazy cool things they could do with their magic. That or simply getting introduced to some of the other kids in the new neighborhood by her own. Really, the energy of the group was at an all-time high, and Surai loved it. And loved meeting all of the other kids as well.
Haven was going to be perfect, she just knew it.
Though at some point one of her kids came up with someone else to introduce them. Whom Surai looked at with a wide and warm smile even as a flower from the half-made crown on her head fell over her face. ”Oh hello there!" The woman greeted with a laugh, moving the flower a little out of the way so she could see again. ”Another friendly face I see! Are you from Haven too?"
