► Was there a word for being simultaneously excited out of your mind but also feeling anxious beyond belief?
Because right about now that was what Lelianna was.
Though it felt like it had come up a long, long time ago; Lelianna had thought about what Caroline had said. While she might not have any blood-related family members left….there was one individual who was pretty much the same thing. It made her honestly feel kind of guilty that the idea of reaching out to her hadn’t crossed her mind until Caroline had mentioned it. What kind of family did that? The woman had basically been a second mother to Lelianna growing up in Suraja!
Which was what had made Lelianna ecstatic when she’d sent out a letter through Haven explaining a few things. Things like, oh, I don’t know….
Oh hey there! Guess what? I’m still alive though I’ve said nothing to you for about 8 years now? 9 maybe?
Yeah things like that.
It had been a little tricky to do since Lelianna didn’t exactly have an address (Unless you considered “101 Abandoned Cabin-turned-tree-fort” one). Plus Haven wasn’t exactly supposed to be a known settlement outside of magi and a few other trusted individuals. Fortunately Lelianna had talked with a few people and finally come up with a solution. And so her letter had been sent a few weeks ago and she had been anxiously waiting for a response.
And get one she did. Just not in paper form.
”Uhhh… Please wait here just a moment. I’m not really sure if she’s here but I can check.” Lelianna said to the figure standing beside her. When she was given the go-ahead, she walked forward on her own. Since Caroline had moved into the Garden, it had slowly consumed her little hut until it was officially part of it. Usually Lelianna planted the flora as it was, though she’d made a tiny bit of an exception here: most of the plants around the area were varying shades of purple. It wasn’t the only color there, mind you, but it was definitely the primary one. There was also a little patch solely for Caroline herself to try gardening. Which seemed to be going….eh. But for now Lelianna was more focused on seeing if the cyborg was there.
”Uh, CC? Caroline?” Lelianna called out, stepping close to the tent but not peeking inside just yet. She didn’t want to be rude or anything! ”You there? I, ah…..T-there’s someone I really want you to meet.”

Notes Thank the gods I'm dressed and in my tent, not naked sunbathing for solar energy
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Caroline scanned through the hundredth file of the day, still turning up nothing. The laptop she took from her father’s possession hadn’t been opened a single time since her exodus until she met the Mad Dog. After their “chance” meeting, her rage against Axium redoubled. It was time to dust off the past and figure out how deep the lies and secrets went. She fell back onto a pile of blankets and pillows that she bought from Haven, a small, frustrated groan escaping her lips. So many weeks, so many hours, and so few answers. All it did was infuriate her; not only was she coming up with nothing, but scanning the files of hunter atrocities and coverups just made her want to go out and shoot them. Well, more than she already did. CC? Caroline? She perked up at the musical sound of her girlfriend’s voice. CC. She’d laughed when she first started calling her that, play fighting with her about how it made no sense. But she liked it; Caro was a good nickname, but CC was one that came from Lelianna. It was theirs. There’s someone I really want you to meet.Huh. That was… unusual. She sounded pretty nervous about it, too. “Mmhmm, I’m here, just a second hun.” She unplugged herself from the computer and stashed it back in its secure lockbox. After running her fingers through her hair a few times, the tanktop-clad cyborg emerged from her tent, already in better spirits now that she was taking a break from her research. She would never tire of being greeted by the ring of flowers around her little slice of Arecia, either. “Who…” She started to ask before she even saw the woman. Why did she look familiar? Her head tilted as she racked her brain… Wait, could this be? Caroline smiled and, understanding now how important this woman was to Lelianna, straightened her posture as if she was an officer at a formal event. “Did you send a letter after all, then?”

► When the now familiar voice of her girlfriend came from the tent, Lelianna couldn’t help but smile. Just hearing her did wonders to calm the magi’s nerves. Not that she was worried or anything she just… The last few hours spent chatting with this woman had sent hundreds of emotions in the druid swirling. Happiness, guilt, relief, sadness, etc. Now she just felt a little shaky. But she wanted Caroline to meet the last family member she had left. ”Y-Yeah. A few weeks ago. But, ah, Caroline I’d like you to meet…I’d like you to meet Shiva.” The hermit said, turning so she could look at both of them. The woman in question- who had been waiting patiently for the druid to get her girlfriend- was older now than she’d appeared in the photograph. Streaks of grey were starting to appear in the dark hair which had been pulled to the side in a braid. Wrinkles were starting to appear on the mocha colored skin. Most of them were crinkles around the eyes, telling of someone who smiled full and often. But despite the increase in age, there was still a spark in those sharp amber eyes as they took in the duo before her. A wide smile slowly grew across the woman’s face, reaching up to those eyes. This was Shiva. After her assessment seemed over, she glanced over towards Lelianna. The smile turned more lopsided and mischievous than anything. ”<She’s very pretty, little flower. Good choice.>” The woman drawled. Lelianna immediately turned bright red, the flowers in her hair following suit as her crystals turned a bright pink. ”S-Shi-Shi!” She protested, glancing towards Caroline. The hermit had no idea if Caroline could actually understand the other woman. Or how Shiva would react to that. Either way, the older woman laughed and waved off Lelianna’s protests. “Oh alright, benim küçük çiçeğim, I’ll behave.” The woman reassured the druid in a heavily accented voice. That made Lelianna sigh subtly with relief, but she was still fairly red. Now, though, those amber eyes turned towards Caroline. “So you are the girl I have heard much about, hmm? Good to see Maralie’s daughter has kadınlarda güzel tat, eh? And is canlı." For a moment there, the expression on her face softened just a tad.

Notes Well. This is a surprise. Uh. Hi!
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS So far her first impression of Shiva was a good one; anyone who enjoyed teasing Lelianna as much as she did was going to be fun to get along with. She couldn’t contain her laughter at her first words (though may have been stammering herself if Lelianna hadn’t been the first to be flustered). The tension in the air just melted away. “<You are too kind>,” Caroline replied in Surajan. Unlike a certain former coworker, she took her language studies seriously. She stood with pride, a partly-mischievous smile on her face. “<It’s a pleasure to meet you. Lelianna has told me much about you.>” She extended her hand to Shiva, and if taken, would do her best not to accidentally break her fingers. If anything, it would be a very firm shake. Truth be told, she was a bit nervous, as well. This was Lelianna’s last family member, basically her second mom, and she felt pressured to make a good impression. So far, she seemed to like her. You never could tell how people would react to cyborgs; she didn’t have the hyper-realistic synthskin many preferred, so it would be obvious after close observation that she wasn’t a flesh-and-blood human. Not to mention some people were a bit thrown by the eyepatch. She nodded at the last words from Shiva. “I’m sure you’re happy to know she’s alive and well, <if perhaps a little forgetful.>” She shot Lelianna a playful smirk. “I would invite you in, but it’s a bit crowded for three people.” She then turned to Lelianna, turning her smirk into a comforting smile. “So what was the plan? Were you going to show her around the garden?”

► Of course her girlfriend would know Surajan. Great. Just great. While Lelianna was still debating on being impressed or further concerned about what Mama Shiva was going to say now, the older woman immediately perked up. She seemed impressed as her smile morphed into a grin. ”<Pretty, and cultured? If I didn’t know my little flower better, I’d have asked if she’d simply bought you out to play the part in order to impress me.>” Shiva joked. Lelianna puffed up again, crossing her arms over her chest.
”<I’m right here, you know!>” The druid protested, blush increasing. Shiva merely laughed once more as she took Caroline’s hand and shook it firmly. Her skin was incredibly warm and certainly calloused.
“I know, I know. But imagine my surprise when I see you again and you have a kız arkadaşı. You, benim küçük çiçeğim, having someone. It is wonderful, yet so…. beklenmedik. Not thought of. I imagined you would stay my innocent little one for far longer.” With a chuckle, she let go of Caroline’s hand and looked back at the cyborg.
”<I am very happy, yes.>” She switched back, finding it easier to speak in Surajan. If Caroline could understand it, there wasn’t much need for her to try Ethean. ”<And glad my little flower has found someone for herself. Though of all things, I would have thought she would end up with another magi.>” Shiva admitted bluntly with a shrug. ”<Not because of race, but simply from how taken she is with nature. And don’t you try to correct me, little Le-Le.>” A pointed look was thrown the druid’s way. Who opened her mouth but…… yeah she couldn’t argue. She shut it and grumbled to herself a little. Meanwhile Shiva smirked. ”<Ah, but from what she has told me, you will do just fine. Let’s just hope your metal does not prove too cold in some places, hmm?>” The smirk soon showed teeth in a devilish way.
Nope, nope, nope-
”Yes!” Lelianna said quickly. Though her brain hadn’t yet put together what Shiva had meant, she knew that look. ”Y-yes. I wanted to show her around and, uh, wanted to see if you wanted to come with us?” Because despite the fact Lelianna just knew she was going to be in for the teasing of a lifetime… she did want Shiva to like Caroline, and for Caroline to like Shiva. And, well… to be with those she considered her family now. Kind of like old times. ”I figured maybe we could go to the flower field first?”

Notes OH you mean... oh... uhhhHHHHH
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Caroline laughed along with the older woman as she took her hand. “<I don’t think she knew I spoke the language.>” Her smile continued as Shiva spoke to Lelianna. She could already feel the motherly aura coming from their interactions; Leli may act embarrassed now, but Caroline could tell she was happy to have a family member back in her life. Caroline nodded. “<I understand. It’s strange to see someone like me living among nature, I know. I did not think I would end up here with my life, either. I could not be happier, though>,” she said, giving Lelianna a warm smile. “<It is my fault, though; I was the one to fall for her first.>” She laughed a little, recalling their heartfelt night together near the cliff. It was terrifying, but it was the best decision she ever made. Just thinking about it made her feel calm and warm. She tilted her head a little at the cold metal comment. What was she getting at? “<Cold? I don’t think so. Leli hasn’t said anything, at least. I am mechanical on the inside, but otherwise my body is perfectly human, down to warmth and->” She jumped a little at Lelianna’s sudden outburst. After a few moments, it dawned on her that Shiva was getting at… something that made her cheeks feel VERY warm, especially after the explanation of her chassis she offered up in response. “Ah r-right. Yes, of course, I’d be happy to come with.” She looked at Shiva, though couldn’t bring herself to look her in the eyes so soon after her… implication. “<It’s amazing, really. It would take weeks to explore it all, but it’s worth it; even after living here for months, I'm struck with awe every day.>” “Starting with my favorite part, too,” she said. “<You will not believe your eyes when you see it. Or maybe you will. Has Leli always been such a determined gardener?>

► Now how was Lelianna supposed to even try staying miffed when Caroline brought that up? Caroline wasn’t the only one who was glad she’d made the decision to say something that night. Her look softened a little as a smile subconsciously came to her lips. She still felt a little giddy whenever she thought about that. Because honestly it still blew her mind that she was dating someone who loved her. Loved her. Gods that was just…
Shiva cut in before the druid could go further into her little warm memory. Which probably meant the woman noticed the looks and general feeling between them. Honestly, who couldn’t at this point?
Fortunately for both the druid and the cyborg, Shiva was merciful and didn’t continue on with the subject of ‘warm metal.” Instead she followed as Lelianna began to lead the way towards the flower field. she wasn’t quiiiiiite sure if she should hold Caroline’s hand right then, because let’s face it that would definitely earn a tease or several from Shiva.
”<Oh I have no doubt. Someone clearly did not realize the consequences of leaving a Varna alone with nature to do as they pleased.>” Shiva joked with a little chuckle. But there was genuine appreciation in her eyes as they walked through the garden. ”<Ah, but the consequences are often beautiful. So I doubt many really mind. I certainly don’t. Well done, Le-Le.>” The woman praised. Which of course made the magi flush and sprout a few more red blooms in her hair.
”Ah…t-teşekkür ederim.” The druid replied with a tiny smile.
”<Now, to answer your question Caroline: oh yes.>” The woman responded once she’d sent a smile Lelianna’s way. Much like the druid herself, she seemed completely relaxed strolling through the thick vegetation. As though she were home. ”<With parents like Maralie and Iggy, it would have been a miracle for her not to be. Before they came along, our little town was by the jungle. Soon enough we were practically in the jungle. Much like your tent. I have suspicions it did not start out all surrounded by flowers, hmm?>” The woman asked with a twinkle in her eyes. Lelianna pointedly did not look towards her. ”<Ah, but it was beautiful and it helped us produce food for many. It’s amazing what earth magi can do. I’m a little jealous; for all my skill with gardening I could never hope to compare.>”
”Hey that’s not true!” Lelianna broke in, glancing over. ”You taught me a lot about gardening that I never knew. Plus some stuff even mom didn’t know.” It was a little odd for Lelianna to be talking of her parents so openly but… surprisingly she didn’t feel bad about it. Maybe it was Shiva’s presence but she was remembering and… didn’t feel quiet as saddened about it. In response to what Lelianna said, Shiva merely arched a brow. Yet she said nothing.
Soon enough though, they managed to reach the flower fields. That lovely expanse of petals stretched out before them in vibrant splendor. Though the weather was starting to get colder as summer transitioned into fall, they were still going strong, Shiva looked with wide eyes and slack-jawed awe. Which eventually transitioned into a smile as she took a few steps out. “Harika…” She breathed, looking at all the flowers. and stooping down to observe some. Lelianna couldn’t hep but smile, feeling a small bit of pride bloom inside of her. And, while her aunt wasn’t looking, she couldn’t help but reach out and give Caroline’s hand a squeeze. Actually seeing the woman there- in her flower fields- was just so… surreal. This wasn’t a dream, was it? She actually had her family back, right? Dream or no, a wave of happiness was washing over the magi unexpectedly as her flowers and crystals responded in kind with a plethora of colors.

Notes All my best memories are of you
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Caroline strolled with them, happy to admire the garden at whatever pace they set. She laughed; so even the obsession ran in the family, it seemed. “<It’s more than not minding, I’ve come to learn>,” she said. “<The priestesses of the Grand Temple to Arithelia used Lelianna’s garden as inspiration for their own. She may not have intended it, but it’s somewhat famous among local magi. As well it should.>” She said the words with no small amount of pride. She couldn’t have dreamed of places this beautiful, and yet Lelianna created them as if they were nothing, purely for the love of it. Perhaps that’s why it was so incredible. She chuckled at Shiva’s storytelling and nodded. “<You’re correct; I settled down here before I ever met Lelianna, and as luck would have it, I was right on the edge of her garden. I think it’s a definite improvement from when I first arrived. Though if you noticed the little patch of struggling plants… Well, let’s just say I don’t quite have the Varna touch when it comes to gardening. Maybe the opposite.>” She laughed sheepishly. Well, she was trying, and things didn’t ALWAYS die. One day… Caroline took a deep breath as they entered her favorite part of the garden. The smells danced perfectly in her senses, the flowers were as beautiful as ever… And Lelianna had a noticeable spring in her step. She must be so happy to be showing her work, her home, to her family. She perked up at the sudden warmth in her hand, matching Lelianna’s smile. Yeah, she was happy. Even if her flower-filled hair and crystals didn’t give it away, her smile would have. Caroline gave her hand a lingering squeeze and nodded, understanding exactly what this meant to her. “<When she showed me this part of the garden, I don’t think I was able to speak for a long time>,” she said with a small laugh. <”It was the first time I was able to forget all my troubles and simply take a moment to enjoy peace.>”

► That grabbed Shiva’s attention. While simultaneously filling Lelianna’s cheeks with bright red again. The fact her garden- her garden!- had been used as a model for a piece of ARITHELIA’S GRAND TEMPLE still made the druid more flustered than all get out. She was just a hermit! An honor like that was too much for her! Shiva, however, didn’t seem to hold the same thoughts. ”<Really now? Well from the looks of things, I could certainly understand why. This is a gorgeous place, clearly blessed by nature. And the gift of an enthusiastic earth magi who clearly adores nature.>” The woman said with a look towards the druid. Who was as red as a cherry now and trying to hide.
”<For us who don’t have such a literal green thumb, it takes more time.>” Shiva said, patting Caroline on the shoulder with a kind smile. ”<Believe me, I was no master when I first started. But with time and dedication you can accomplish many things. And with such a teacher,>” Shiva glanced Lelianna’s way with a chuckle, ”<I suspect you’ll be surprising yourself with success in no time, my dear.>” With that the hand was lifted and they walked on.
As they reached the field, Lelianna found herself being thankful for Caroline’s ability to just…. understand her. there were no words said but she just… seemed to know. To understand what Lelianna was doing. It was a lot like her connection with Arecia, though she knew it was different as well. All the same: she appreciated it. Which meant she snuck in a swift peck to her girlfriend’s cheek before returning her attention to their visitor.
Much like Caroline, Shiva seemed content to stay silent for a while. Though she nodded her head to indicate she had heard the other woman. After a minute or two of her simply wandering and appreciating the lovely display of flora, she finally turned back to the two. Her smile was as radiant and warm as the sun. ”<I can see why.>” She responded, looking between the two. ”<It is a gorgeous place, and even being here for a few minutes I feel as though all my troubles could just go ‘poof,’>” She made a little gesture with her hand before laughing. ”<Just vanish completely for a time. And in this time, that is a rare thing to find indeed.>” She walked back to the two.
”<Now I have a certain request, my little flower. If what Caroline says is true, then I’m sure there are places you have not yet shown her, yes?>” She asked with a smirk.
Lelianna smiled sheepishly. With the size of her garden? ”<Ahh… yeah.>” She admitted with a tiny shrug.
Shiva clapped her hands together, apparently satisfied with that answer as she grinned. ”<Wonderful! Then you can take us somewhere that’s new for us both! And you,>” Now amber eyes turned towards Caroline with a mischievous spark, ”<Can tell me more about the woman who stole my little Le-Le’s heart, hmm?>”

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Caroline smirked. It was time to play her favorite game: how red could Leli get? “<I talked to the priestesses at the temple myself; there was lots of pride in her voice as she told me and the other visitors. It is apparently the most popular area among guests and monks alike.>” She nodded. “<They couldn’t have chosen a better reference.>” She laughed a little at Shiva’s comfort. “<I have something of a black thumb, it feels like. But I agree; if anyone can teach me how to do it, it’s Lelianna. I doubt there’s a better gardener in all the world. I’m just trying to follow in her footsteps.>” Caroline made a short, pleased laugh at the peck on the cheek. She really was happy for Lelianna; she knew firsthand what it felt like to lose almost everything. Having this reunion would do her heart lots of good. She also examined the flora; even after seeing this field dozens of times, it never ceased to amaze her. There was always something more to notice; a different flower, an overlooked pattern, a new mixture of scents… On the whole, it was amazing, but the true beauty was in the details. Every inch of the garden was clearly crafted with love. “<I didn’t think I would ever find peace before coming here>,” she said, only half paying attention. She perked up at Shiva’s suggestion. A new part of the garden? How could she say no to that? And you can tell me more about…Oh, that was how. Apparently it was her turn to be in the spotlight. Her mind raced for things she could say. Well, for starters, I’m one of Ethea’s most wanted, I killed my own father because he brainwashed me, I’m in this body because of a huge fire that burned me so long that I should have died, my hobbies include long walks through the garden and killing hunters, and oh, of course, the first time I met Lelianna, I pulled a gun on her and suplexed her pet bear after it decapitated me! Which all came out as “Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……” She scratched the back of her neck as she fought for something to say. “<I’m not sure what she told you about me already, but there’s not too much to say. Kind of plain for a hosted human living in nature, ha,>” she said, her laugh betraying how awkward she felt. Thank the gods Shiva was from Suraja; if she’d watched the local Ethean news anytime in the last few months she’d have recognized her as the treasonous ex-agent that left the country. “<I used to live in Felici, working for the government. I… couldn’t really stand the corruption, though; it’s not easy to change it from the inside. I left immediately after my resignation and moved out here to try and gather my thoughts.>” Vague, but… she wasn’t going to volunteer any details. Shiva would have to pry if she wanted to know more, and judging from that smile, Caroline could tell that she planned to.

► Caroline how could you?
With the two of them working their hardest to turn the druid red, it came as no surprise when they achieved that goal. The hermit’s flowers had all turned a vibrant scarlet that conveyed the level of embarrassment she was feeling. The blush in her cheeks had worked its way up to the tips of her ears and down to her shoulders. The poor thing very well felt lightheaded due to the amount of blood rushing towards her face. Dizzy even. Her pace increased even further, practically rushing the two along to get them to their destination. Especially once Caroline piled on another compliment.
Good gods at this rate her girlfriend might kill her.
Fortunately while the other two talked and explored the garden, her blush started going down. Replaced instead by the giddy, happy feeling that was washing over her. Especially since the two seemed to be getting along fairly nicely (even if part of that involved them mercilessly teasing the poor druid).
Though the question Shiva asked was definitely an….interesting one. Lelianna had explained a few things to the information hungry aunt of hers, but she knew better than to divulge everything. What all Caroline wanted to tell was up to her. So Lelianna threw Caroline a little concerned glance, but was also trying to think up some place they could go that she hadn’t shown her girlfriend.
Luckily there was a lot to choose from.
Shiva hummed, her full attention having been turned from her adopted daughter to her daughter’s girlfriend. ”<Ah, an officer, were you? You’ve got that sort of look and stature about you. My my, going after a girl in uniform my little flower?>” This comment was aimed towards the hermit who once again lead the way- having apparently made up her mind.
Lelianna predictably reddened. ”<S-she wasn’t in uniform when we….I-I mean…I didn’t…>” While the hermit tried thinking of a response, Shiva just laughed.
”<I’m just teasing, dear.>” She assured her with a wicked smirk. Then amber eyes latched back onto Caroline. ”<But surely you have some interesting tales to tell, hmm? With my old age, I’ve found that those who claim they haven’t much to say often have the most fascinating stories. And if you managed to open the eyes of my little flower to romance, then I can hardly believe you would be boring in any sense of the word.>”

Notes But the gods ignored her prayers, as they were too busy laughing
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS There was the hue that made her grin. She snickered softly at her color-changing girlfriend; there was so much fun to be had when she wore her emotions in her hair. But it was all true, too, and Caroline was also quite proud of Leli’s abilities, and everything she’d done so far. Unfortunately Shiva was persistent. She returned Lelianna’s concerned look with a desperate shrug. There was only so much she could say. If she gave away too much or said too little, Shiva would get suspicious. But at the same time, her own officer senses were tingling, ironically brought on by Shiva’s words. Caroline never said she was an officer, yet somehow she figured it out. Or perhaps she already knew? It was too late to try and back out now. “<I was, though not by choice>,” she said, looking away for a second. Though she would never forget her past that haunted her, she hated the times when she was forced to remember and focus on it. It only occurred to her after a moment that that may have sounded like an odd thing to leave hanging, and scrambled for a follow-up. “<Ah, I mean, because it’s sort of the family job, working for the government. At least, on my father’s side. It was assumed that I would follow the tradition.>” Lelianna’s brief interlude barely even registered in Caroline’s mind as she struggled with her thoughts and Shiva’s interrogation. Yeah, she followed, because her father spun a lie about her mother’s death and never encouraged her to do anything else. Her fists clenched for a moment, until Shiva said more. She closed her eye at her question and took a breath to calm herself. “<Interesting… I suppose that’s what most people would say, even if it was all just part of my daily routine. I did field work; investigations, raids, national security… Nothing about it was pleasant, though.>” She opened her eye and gave Shiva an apologetic shrug. “<I’ve been shot at more times than I can count, but I wouldn’t call it interesting. Weren’t many happy stories in my work, and I’d hate to kill the mood with them.>” But there was no way Shiva would be satisfied with that, was there? She hummed for a moment. “<There was one good thing that sticks out; I worked with an officer friend of mine, Talia, and together we cracked open a magi trafficking operation. I thought it was small, that we only saved a handful of lives, but it turned out it went bigger than that. International. I suppose there’s some pride in being the one to pull the thread that unraveled the tapestry.>” Despite the happy story, Caroline didn’t crack a smile. Yeah, that was how it went, but at the time… she also tried to cover it up. She was pissed that they saved Magi. She was a monster then, and dwelling on it tore her up inside. Fortunately she also gave her a handhold with which to climb out of this… topic. “<It was mutual, really>,” she said, now cracking a small smile as she stole a glance at Leli. “<I am new to romance, too; if anything, she was the one who opened my eyes. I didn’t think a relationship was in the cards for me, but when someone as unique and incredible as Leli enters your life, even someone as dense as me can fall in love.>” She hummed happily. “<If I’m not boring, it’s because she showed me how to have fun. Exploring, gardening, wrestling bears… Oh, has she introduced you to Skjorn yet? He likes to hug.>” She snickered. “<It may be hard to believe, but I truly didn’t have many hobbies whatsoever before I came here. It was… not a pleasant time in my life, let’s say.>” Hopefully that would stop the questioning, gods have mercy.

► As they continued to walk, Caroline held the center stage. Keen, attentive amber eyes were keeping watch over her even as they navigated through the druid’s thick garden. Wherever Lelianna was leading the trio didn’t seem quite as important to the elder woman as Caroline’s story did. She did, however, make a noise when the magi trafficking operation was brought up. ”<Hmph. We’ve had hundreds of years to develop, yet there’s still those who want to buy one another.>” The look on her face grew sour for a moment. Lips curled up in disgust. But it soon passed as she looked back at Caroline. ”<But it is a good thing you managed to uncover them. The sooner those dealers are brought to light, the sooner we can get rid of them and the operation they run.>” She seemed to approve.
As the topic then switched over to another, Lelianna felt herself grow red again. She’d finally calmed down to her normal color, but now it was starting up all over again! Why must you do this to me? The hermit’s expression seemed to say when she glanced back. However…she couldn’t help but look glad too. Hearing that Caroline was having more fun now was….wonderful. She deserved to have fun from all the things she’d gone through. That was Lelianna’s opinion anyways.
Though Shiva eyed her for a moment, she broke into another smile. There was a brief, knowing look on her face before she spoke. ”<Ah, that is a good thing! Hobbies can be the one thing to spruce up a dull routine. Or, in my case, keep me sane.>” She chuckled and shook her head, granting mercy to the cyborg and ceasing in her questioning. For now.
”<I have not met this Skjorn though, Le-Le. And wrestling bears did you say?>” Shiva glanced back at Caroline for confirmation. If she was given it she’d laugh. ”<Ha! Somehow that does not surprise me. Iggy was practically a bear himself; he was certainly hairy enough. Probably smelly enough too.>” She quipped with a grin.
”<Well we do try to wash Skjorn.>” Lelianna remarked with a glance and a bit of a grin towards Caroline. ”<Which can quickly get… Messy. He doesn’t really like baths all that much.>”
Shiva snorted and rolled her eyes. ”<Hmph. It would be just his luck to be reborn as a bear. Even Tatara could not surprise me if that was the case. That or if he was a dog. One that was more fur than body. And slobbered. A lot.>”
Even Lelianna couldn’t help but laugh. As much as she ought to protest… well as memory served her father was hairy and goofy like Skjorn. And prone to pouting when he didn’t get his way. Still, she should defend her dad’s honor, right? ”<Shi-Shi!>” But before she could say more Shiva arched a brow at her.
”<Don’t you ‘Shi-Shi’ me, little flower. Look at your face. You know I’m right.>” As much as Lelianna wanted to say something, nothing came out. So Shiva leaned in towards Caroline and whispered almost conspiratorially with the other woman. ”<The man was a big softy and as goofy as his daughter. Not to mention clumsy as could be.>”
”Hey!”
”<There are times when I still have to wonder what it was Maralie saw in him that made her think ‘ah yes. This is the one for me.’>” She chuckled and straightened herself out once more. ”<But then I think some more on it and find the answer. I see it in my little Le-Le now as well.>” Her smile turned fond and warm for a moment. Which in turn made heat rise in Lelianna’s cheeks. Though it only lasted a moment before the expression curved into a smirk. ”<Some people are simply attracted to a complete and hopeless goofball.>”
”HEY!”

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She nodded along solemnly with Shiva’s assessment. “<I saw the worst of society every day. Most of it was from inside; I couldn’t take it any longer. I’m sorry that I can’t think of anything more pleasant as far as old work stories go, but it was not a pleasant time.>” Her lip curled up, briefly. “<I’m sure they’ve been caught by now. I went around the red tape to make sure the information got to people who wanted to stop them.>” That was one way of putting “I delivered countless classified files to the police and an information broker.” But Shiva didn’t need to know that. Part of Caroline still kept an eye out for more clues that Shiva knew the details of her “retirement.” She nodded; yes, indeed, wrestling bears. “<It’s not something I expected to be doing, but it’s pretty good fun. Bath time… yeah, that’s basically just a wrestling match that takes place in the river>,” she said with a laugh. She smiled silently at their banter. It was cute, and reminded her of her niece and nephew. How were they doing? How was her sister? A small ache shot through her chest, courtesy of her brain realizing that any chance at having a normal family relationship like Shiva and Leli… it was something she’d never had again. She gave it up on her exit. That was a consequence she had to live with now. Shiva’s whisper brought her mind back to the present, drawing a little laugh from the cyborg. “<I suppose she had to get it from somewhere>,” she whispered back. She also felt the warmth in Shiva’s next words, which made her unexpected joke hit her that much harder. Caroline burst out laughing, crossing her arms over her abdomen and leaning forward as she did. When she settled down (which took a bit), she shrugged, still chuckling. “<If it works, right? Ah, but I’m a bit of a goof, too. Might be why we’re such a good fit, hm?>” She stuck her tongue out briefly at Leli. Shiva wasn’t wrong; Lelianna was goofy, but she was also so much more. Still, the goofiness was what made her fun, what allowed Caroline to relax around her… So, yeah. She was. She fell for that goofiness because that’s exactly what she needed in her life.

► Shiva seemed satisfied enough by that. She nodded her head once, firmly. ”<Good.>” Then the conversation moved on to a bit more pleasant topics. Not to mention silly.
”<Just make sure you don’t get eaten, little flower.>” Shiva said with a laugh.
”<To be honest I have a higher chance of getting squashed. Or smothered with fur. Maybe a combination of both?>” The druid replied with a laugh of her own. Skjorn had never bit her (thank gods) but he had dumped his full weight onto her before. Which was…which was just great. If she was looking to become as flat as a piece of paper.
Caroline’s hearty laughter made Shiva join in as well. Lelianna held off for a moment long enough to look peeved at the both of them, but it was hard not to give in just a little with her girlfriend laughing like that. It was a good noise. A pleasant one she’d love to hear more. Just maybe not directed at Lelianna like this next time. In retaliation, Lelianna stuck out her tongue at Caroline and kept going. ”You’re both a bunch of jerks.” The hermit grumbled loud enough for them to hear. Shiva merely grinned, and they continued on their walk making similar small talk.
Mostly at the druid’s expense.
However they eventually started moving through a hillier region. it was a bit chillier where they were, but not too bad. They were passing through little rock groves and valleys now, and Shiva looked completely curious. Eventually the sound of distant crashing water floated through the air, and the trio found themselves on a narrower path going through large boulders and rock faces. ”<Little flower, when I said take us somewhere, I did not mean the mountains.>” Shiva jested as they had to maneuver through some rough terrain and a tight path.
”<It’s just up ahead! I found this place only recently.>” The druid informed them as she continued leading them through. Finally, after trekking through the precarious path, it opened up once again. They found themselves in a little cove, with huge cliff-faces surrounding them. In the distance, on the other side of the little private body of water, was a long waterfall falling from the top of one of the cliffs. Relatively close to it, though on it’s own little outcrop, was a cabin. It was hard to see from this distance, hut it looked fairly run-down. Perhaps abandoned. Yet it sat perched above it’s own little private pool that Lelianna approached with a smile. ”<Here we are! I found this place when I was trying to extend the garden. I haven’t quite reached this space yet, but tI thought it was pretty. Peaceful in an isolated sort of way. I think someone might have been using it as a vacation spot or something.>”
