Nothing seemed particularly out of place that day in the stretch of woods surrounding Haven. The day, in fact, was a rather pleasant one. Not too cold and not too hot; the sun's rays managed to break down through the overhead foliage and light up some of the underbrush below. The light occasionally revealed one or two critters scurrying about their own personal business. Whether it be a rabbit, a herd of deer, or the squirrels above- nothing seemed out of place. All was at peace.
But move a little further out from the magi town, and a peculiar sight would come into view.
The first thing that would make itself known to you was the presence of birds. While not uncommon in the woods, the sheer number of them was surely an oddity. Rather than be disturbed by your approach, beady little eyes turned down to watch you with a more than slightly unsettling intensity. There was something calculating in those stares. Something more intelligent than what was found in your typical sky-faring friends. Another thing that was noticeable was the number of variety among them. From bluejays to crows, and even nocturnal owls; all sorts of different aviary types were found nestled above in the surrounding trees' branches. And as you walked further and further along the unmarked "path" they seemed to create, their numbers only increased.
Eventually through following the trail of feathered observers, an opening would appear before you. There, sitting atop the enormous root of one of the nearby trees, sat a figure. Perched in dense clusters about this individual were even more birds, and oddly enough set off to the side was a small tea set complete with a kettle. The hood of the figure was up though, hiding any of their features. Yet even so the robes they wore bespoke a feminine figure that bared slim legs ending in wicked looking talons. They kicked almost idly as the individual lifted a hand up, bringing with it a small steaming cup to disappear into the shadows of the hood. As it did this it called attention to the robe's interesting fabric; the entire thing looked as though it had been patterned meticulously after feathers of an owl. In fact real feathers could be seen attached to the sleeves, moving slightly as the figure's arm descended once again.
With a little clack of porcelain on porcelain, the hooded head turns towards you. "Oh!" The voice was undoubtedly female. It came out softly and melodiously, like gentle chimes in the wind. "Isn't this a pleasant surprise?" The tone of the voice sounded genuinely pleased. You could almost hear the smile in the words despite not being able to see one. Turning away momentarily, the face of the hood addressed one of the little birds sitting beside her. "It looks as though we've got another guest." The spoken-to bird tilts its head in the figure's direction before looking back at you and cawing. It wasn't too long before the hood turns as well. "And such a sweet looking little magi as well. Please, make yourself at home!" With a small nod the woman indicates some of the rocks or roots around them in this small glade you find yourself within. "I assure you, they won't peck." She says with a little laugh. "Or at least not very hard. Would you like some tea?"

[attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever Cadence usually strolled through the forest with a spring in her step and a song on her lips. And so she did today, for a little while. She heard rumors of some magi who enjoyed birds and games, out in this area of the woods, and that was a perfect lure for Cadence to seek them out. The chill down her spine was giving her second thoughts. At first it was nice to see so many birds! Cadence had an obvious affinity for them, so it was nice to have them all nearby. However, she detected something was “off” with them rather quickly; they weren’t behaving like normal. Sure, crows were smart and curious, and it was less surprising to see them. But all the other types… gathered so eerily together in an odd silence… that made Cadence walk cautiously. Her excitement-laden courage was abandoning her quickly. Attempts to sweet-talk the birds went unreciprocated, which was not typical of her experiences. This was weird. She gripped the strap of her messenger bag tightly with both hands. And then she saw her. Or, what she assumed to be a her. At the sound of her melodic welcome, Cadence smiled and offered a diminutive wave. Oh, the birds just liked this person! And her taloned feet were just like hers! She was already feeling a sense of kinship with her. “Hello there,” she offered back. She took a seat nearby on another root of the same tree, and gave a little laugh (which was mostly to shake off her earlier fears and discomfort). “I’m sure they won’t! I like birds a lot, too; I usually sing with them when I’m out here. Oh, I don’t have tea a lot! As Cadence took her seat, some of the birds that had been perched near that spot moved out of the way. They didn't fly off but rather made room for the magi as they continued to stare. The other woman didn't seem to pay the fact nearly hundreds of eyes were on the magi any mind.
"Singing, hmm?" The woman intoned before giggling slightly. "Now that's quite kind of you! Not many come out and sing with my friends. Really, it's a shame." A brief sigh left the hood before it turned towards one of said "friends" perched beside her. It was a little owl whose fixated stare upon Cadence finally turned away as the soft voice spoke once more. "Would you be so kind as to hold this for me, dear? I want to pour our guest some to drink too." There was a brief pause as the owl seemed to consider the question. Eventually, though, it shuffled its talons and looked back towards Cadence. Apparently that had been an affirmative response, for the hooded figure carefully placed the little plate holding her tea atop the owl's head. Other than puffing up slightly, it remained still. The tea managed to stay balanced. "Thank you." Again, just by tone alone it sounded as though the words came with a smile.
"Now, where was I? Ah." That hooded head turned away from the owl to face the tea set. Delicate hands reached out to grasp another porcelain cup along with the kettle. As tea was carefully poured, the figure continued speaking. "Singing. Yes, it's really such a shame. You know, I think it might be because most people are far too shy." The figure stated in a somewhat conspiratorial whisper, as if they were sharing some secret another might listen in on. "As though they worry they couldn't compare to the voices of my friends here. Ah, but I think they give them far too much credit. And let it get to their heads as well." Another airy laugh followed this as the kettle was put down. Another plate was picked up, the cup carefully place on top of it, before those hands extended the steaming tea towards the magi. "You, however; well, I have a strong feeling you are quite the excellent singer, aren't you?" She giggled and shook their head before Cadence could respond. "Please, don't try to be modest. I know it just from the way you talk. It's a compliment well earned. My friends are most assuredly grateful to have someone else to sing with, especially one with such talent. It might even help keep them modest. Though, I suppose I shouldn't ask for miracles quite yet."
Once Cadence had taken the tea from the figure, they retracted their hands and retrieved their own cup. The owl who had temporarily become a feathery little stand shook itself and calmed ruffled feathers. An action that elicited another laugh from the hooded one before she took a sip. "Yes, yes, I know dear. But I appreciate you holding it for me. Would be terrible for it to go to waste because of a spill, wouldn't it?" The figure responded with a good deal of fond amusement within her tone.
Cadence, should she have taken a sip of her own serving, would notice something immediately. The tea was astoundingly bitter tasting, to the point where it was nearly overwhelming upon its first contact with her taste-buds. It was startling, to say the least, and left a peculiar tingling sensation in her mouth. In stark contrast, however, the initial bitter taste faded away into a surprisingly sweet after-taste that seemed to soothe the bitter bite of the first sip. And if she drank more the bitter quality to the drink would gradually subside until only the sweet taste registered.
"Oh my! I only just now realize that we haven't been properly introduced." Their voice was laced with surprise as they paused in their drinking. The head of the figure tilted to the side, in a somehow apologetic motion. "That's quite rude of me, isn't it? Please, you may call me Riah." The hood gave a little nod in Cadence's direction. Then, with a smile playing along the words, the hooded woman asked: "Might I ask your name, miss?"

[attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever Cadence nodded and smiled in agreement. It was a shame! People spend so much time listening to the birds sing, it’s only right that they do the same for them. Any unease the little magi had was melting away by the moment. I mean, the lady was being very kind and hospitable and generally just sweet. It was, of course, a little odd that an owl was trained to hold a cup like that, but more importantly it was adorable. Cadence couldn’t help but coo at the sight. She laughed at the little joke. “I wish more people would try,” she agreed. She took the tea carefully and smiled. “Thank you very much!” Modesty was not something Cadence learned- she was always told to be proud of her talents, though to never cross the line to arrogant. “That’s very sweet of you,” Cadence replied, blowing a little on the tea. “I learned from my parents. I’ve been singing ever since I could talk; I perform in Dagos for now, but one day I’ll get to a nice concert hall somewhere! If you’re ever in town I’d be happy to take you to a show.” She shifted her smile over to the owl. “Thank you!” Of course, had she tasted the tea beforehand, she may not have been so quick to thank the flustered owl. At the first sign of the overwhelming bitterness, her entire face scrunched tight and it was all she could do to NOT spit up the small sip she had taken. Worse, the reaction spread throughout her body, drawing a full-body twitch from the little magi. Was this like, normally how tea tasted without sugar? Gods, how awful! Her face only relaxed as soon as the bitter stinging gave way to a sweet sensation. She opened one eye curiously, then smacked her lips lightly, then opened her other. Oh, now it was delicious! Still, she was hesitant to take a second sip. Her eyes lifted to her host at the dainty exclamation. Cadence put her hand over her mouth in turn and raised her brows. “Oh! I’m sorry, too! I totally forgot!” Not that that was unusual for her. “Riah. What a nice name! I’m Cadence. The woman seemed to perk up at the offer sent her way. It showed through her posture straightening briefly. ”Oh my! A show in Dagos? I’ve never had the pleasure before; though perhaps now I would finally have an excuse to go, hmm?" Another little airy laugh left the figure before she shook her head. ”Though I’m not quite certain how my friends might react to it." The shadowed face of the hood turned upwards towards some of the birds surrounding them. All the bright lights and noise. Doesn’t really seem like the place for little birds." With a sigh the hood turned back towards Cadence.
When Cadence reacted to the tea, a giggle left the other woman. ”Has quite the kick, doesn’t it?" She asked playfully with a little tilt of her head. Her own cup disappeared once again into the hood before it was set back down on its little plate.
”Cadence…” The name was tested curiously by the melodious voice. ”Cadence. Hmm!” The tone sounded approving. ”How very fitting! You’ve a lovely name as well, Cadence. And I’m very glad you decided to join my friends and I out here today." With a tiny gesture she indicated the feathered watchers who still kept their eyes intensely trained on Cadence. Yet the hooded woman still didn’t seem to pay them any mind as she once again reached for her kettle.
After carefully refilling her own cup and putting the kettle back, the cup was lifted up before the hood. The steam coming off of it was gently blown away to cool it somewhat before once more disappearing. After it went back onto its plate, the figure spoke again. ”You know Cadence; you’ve been so very sweet since you’ve arrived. I don’t meet many strangers who already feel like a friend from the first moment." It felt like she was smiling once again, the tone warm and genuine sounding. ”Such a kind soul you are. Really, it’s such a rarity in this day and age. But as much as I can see that through what little you’ve said, we are strangers still, no?" The hood once more tilted slightly to the side.
Straightening once again, the figure leaned forward a tad. ”So how about we play a little game? A game so we can get to know each other better, hmm? Something like…Oh, say twenty questions; only certainly not as many as that!" She laughed again and shook her head. Then proceeded to hum in thought. ”Hmmm…No, what about, say, five or six questions? That way I can put more thought into each one rather than bombard you with many little ones. Then after you’ve answered yours, I can answer any you have! It would only be fair. Although…" The hood tilted to the other side in thought.
”If it is to be a game, I suppose there should be rules. Hmm……Ah! What about this?" One delicate hand rose, holding aloft one finger. ”The first rule is that we must answer each question asked. It would be quite boring if we didn’t answer each other’s questions, no?" A giggle escaped her before she hummed once more. Then a second finger rose. ”Oh! I know! The second rule could be that we must answer truthfully. I don’t expect you to lie, but I suppose it’s best to be reminded sometimes. I’ve met quite a few people who’ve told me quite interesting fibs. Although sometimes the little tall tale was more entertaining than the truth." With another shake of the head, the hand dropped back to the cup. After taking another sip of tea, the hood faced Cadence.
”So? What do you say? I could go first, just to show you what I mean. Then you could take your turn after and ask me questions."

Not one to be deterred, she puffed her chest out a little with a determined smile. “Maybe I’ll just do an outdoor performance here sometime, then! That way they can all come, too!” She could only nod at Riah’s comment about the tea. She ventured another sip, gaining another squinted face and body twitch for her trouble. Still, it seemed a bit less intense, and the sweet aftertaste helped her body relax again. Any “normal” person may be unsettled by the birds’ endless gazes. Not Cadence, though; she was relaxed as could be, as Riah was pleasant company (and what kind of crow magi would get unnerved by other crows, among other birds?). Cadence tilted her head and hummed. “You’re right, I think. We are! Though you’ve been really sweet, too, Riah!” It was a little sad to hear she didn’t make friends with people this easily; she was so kind! Maybe people were nervous around so many birds? She perked up and out of her thoughts at the mention of a game. That was the rumor about this person, right? Someone who liked to play games? Cadence smiled. Why did people think that was so weird? Cadence listened politely, nodding along with Riah’s ideas. Lying was something the little magi was incapable of, so there were no worries there. And answering each question… well, that was the game, wasn’t it? “Makes sense to me!” She said. “Okay, sounds fun! Another laugh left the woman. ”So kind! An outdoor performance would be wonderful. I am sure my little friends here would greatly appreciate such a show." The hood glanced down towards one of the birds as a hand reached out to gently pet one. The bird- a hawk this time- fluffed up a little at the initial contact, but gradually relaxed into the touch. "The only ones they ever get to see are the festivals Haven puts on, though those aren't particularly meant for them. Not exactly. Ah, but knowing them, they might even join in on a show they were actually meant to attend. They are dreadful when it comes to showing off, I'm afraid." She added with a little shake of the hood. The hand returned to her cup and plate.
Cadence’s answer surely brought about a positive response. Those delicate hands left the little cup to lightly clap together before the figure in excitement. Now she sounded especially pleased. ”Oh, wonderful! It’s easy, I promise you. Just a fun way to get to know each other better, yes? Hmm, let’s see now. Since I’ll go first, I’ll simply ask all my five or six questions before it becomes your turn. Now then…" Her hands returned back to her tea, and she took another sip.
”To be quite honest, I think I already know what my first question will be." Riah confessed with a little laugh. She was smiling again; it was easy to hear. "Since the moment you came to my little glade you’ve been nothing but kind and warm. Both are such lovely traits to find in a person, and even more so when they are found together." A somewhat wistful sigh came from the hooded woman before she shook her head. Then, she leaned in a little.
”So I find that I simply must ask whether or not you’ve found someone special in your life already. Perhaps it’s a bit much to start out with," The voice admitted with a vaguely sheepish little shrug of the shoulders before continuing on, ”But for one who seems so utterly precious, I would think- and hope- you’d surely be taken already. Someone out there must certainly realize you are quite the extraordinary little magi! Or person, for that matter."

The more the merrier.” Looking around, she smiled at all the birds (still not fretting the fact that their eyes were totally trained on her still). Having a chorus of so many birds accompanying her would be interested, to say the least! So she’ll ask all her questions first, and Cadence will do it in turn. It was good that Riah volunteered to take the first round, because the bird wasn’t sure if they were going to swap one question at a time or do it all in one go. She nodded, indicating that she understood the terms. As it turned out, she wasn’t as prepared as she thought. A shy turning of the head accompanied by a mocha-darkening blush of her cheeks gave Riah the answer. With a lovestruck smile, Cadence nodded. “Yes, I have,” she said, trying to keep her giddiness from rising up into a giggle. “Her name’s Fiamma. She’s really special, too.” The words came out with a happy sigh and a smile to match. “We’ve been together for a few months but… I can already tell I really love her. She could sit down and put them to song, given time, but in conversation she always seemed to end up as a stuttering mess. Cadence’s adorable little display of clear affection was met with a pleasant coo from the hooded woman. She didn’t seem to mind Cadence’s little love-struck moment one bit as she laughed along with her. "That’s so wonderful to hear!" The woman expressed happily, waving the apology off with a delicate hand. ”It’s quite clear you love her dearly. It’s such a delightful thing to behold. I’m very glad you’ve found someone for yourself. And judging from the way you merely mention her name, she truly must be someone quite special." A smile seemed to accompany the approving tone. The woman took another sip of her tea before humming in consideration.
Her head tilted ever so slightly to the side. Her approving tone continued throughout her next words. ”I have no doubt your Fiamma could see how special you were from the very beginning. Perhaps your entrance was a little less than ideal." She giggled slightly and shook her hooded head. ”But your taste in scenery was truly wise, Cadence. Such a lovely place, that peach grove. Quite the romantic spot as well. I suspect your Fiamma will always treasure it in her heart after that. Though I would argue that spot didn’t do all the work. After all," Here the figure leaned forward a little.
”You’ve got something about you Cadence, as I suspected. Some sort of charm, hmm? It certainly shows when you sing. Which, I must say," The figure leaned back and paused to sip more tea. ”You ought to do more often. Your Fiamma certainly seems to like it, considering she came all that way to see you in Dagos. Besides, you truly shine at your most confident; and where else do you soar highest but on the stage, hmm?" The woman tilted her head to the opposite side before bringing the tea back up to shadowed lips. ”Such the performer, Little Crow. No wonder my friends like you. You quite remind me of them."
”Ah, but I should move onto my next question. I wonder…" The voice trailed off into a thoughtful hum. Taloned feet kicked idly as the hood cocked to the other side once more. Finally she spoke once again. ”I suppose we can build off the last one, yes? Dagos is such a strange place. I have to wonder how one such as you finds it? That is, what do you think of your home?" The woman asked curiously.

[attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever The gears in Cadence’s head move slowly, to put it gently. This is why at first, she smiled and nodded along as if she were talking with an old friend. “I didn’t mean for it to be romantic!” A shy laugh and deepening blush accompanied her friendly retort. “It was just a spot I really liked, so I thought… she would… she…” Her brows furrowed in confusion as she recollected the short conversation up to this point. Had she… mentioned all that? No, she… What was going on? She tilted her head and frowned, now thoroughly confused. And as Riah went on to talk about her, and Fiamma’s visit to Dagos, and her stage name, even Cadence could figure out something was… Wrong. “But… I didn’t mention any of that,” she said during the break it took Riah to think up her next question. “I mean… there’s no way you could know all that?” Her voice rose in pitch, betraying her doubt. Now she was beginning to feel the creeping sense of discomfort she felt when she first entered the woods. Before she could ask how Riah knew, she was on to the next question. Cadence fidgeted a little bit, her cheerful enthusiasm draining by the moment. Dagos… Okay, well, maybe… maybe she knew Cadence! And this was all just a prank or something! Or maybe a test? It could be Arithelia in disguise or something! Oh, or maybe Irilys? Wow, if she was meeting another god… There were a handful of excuses, and her mind cycled through all of them. Whatever she could tell herself to keep going. “It’s… Well… It has a lot of opportunities. And there are a lot of nice people… I like performing there. It’s not perfect but it feels like home. Parts of it are ugly, but there’s a lot of prettiness, too.” She hummed, her attention now focused on the question. “It’s not a good place for the kids… or even Geno. Or anyone. Haven would be a better place for them, I think. It’s… safer. They might go less hungry.” She looked down, feeling a sense of guilt. They said they didn’t want to go, but… she couldn’t help but feel like she wasn’t giving them the life they deserved. Was she the one holding them back? Riah, however, didn’t respond to Cadence’s higher pitched comment. The hooded woman merely sat there and listened quietly as she sipped her tea and her little feathered friends watched on.
As she finished, a soft hum came from the other woman. Not cheerful, but rather pensive. ”Perfect. Such an odd idea, perfection. Truth be told, I hardly think there has been a ‘perfect’ thing yet created in this world. Or at least nothing everyone has agreed upon being ‘perfect.’ Though that is not entirely bad." The hood tilted to the side once more.
”Ah, but such a sad face. From what you say this Dagos surely does not sound ideal for kids indeed. Such a city it is. Those bright lights and the excited air can hide quite the terrors underneath, yes? Some things that make many regret flocking there, I suspect. Again she sipped her tea, tilting her head to the other side. ”And regret is such an interesting emotion, no? It does not quite burn like a raging fire, as anger does." She hummed in thought for a moment. ”Hmm, no. It’s rather like guilt, yes? Both smolder with no flame, though it feels like it’s burning. And at times it can flare up so intensely, you would swear you could see the flickers of the fire around a person. Poor boy." Another sigh left the hood before it shook slowly. The voice was no longer cheerful, but held a more level tone.
”A lifetime’s worth of scarlet stains. Though perhaps he shouldn’t judge himself quite so harshly. After all, the Hunt’s call can be quite inciting in many ways, and it’s fairly easy to act the feral hound when surrounded by the pack." There was another pause as Riah took another drink. Once the cup clinked! back onto her plate, the hood turned towards Cadence again.
”Such a thing, regret. It can entirely consume a person, or serve as a weighted reminder forever. It makes me wonder, Cadence," The hood cocked slightly. ”Are there things you regret yourself?"

[attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever Cadence listened intently, trying to figure out just what the heck was going on. It was… really odd. In one moment, Riah was talking about Dagos as if she had just heard of it, and in the next was explaining things as if she’d lived there her whole life. Just… what was Riah? What was going on? It wasn’t hard to figure out that she was referring to Geno during her waxing about emotions and feelings. Her bouncy demeanor was long gone, now replaced with a statuesque stillness the likes of which few had seen from the little magi. Her body stiffened, suddenly feeling a little defensive. How did she know these extremely personal things about Geno, things which she is certain he only told her, and only after years of knowing her. She’d better not be planning to hurt Cadence’s friends and family! Her aggressive thoughts only served to help Riah catch her off guard with the next question, stillness broken with a sudden little jump of her upper body. “Regret…?” Regret… That was not something most would associate with Cadence, and yet it was understood to be a universal feeling, shared by everyone. She set the cup and saucer down next to her, if there was room (if not, then onto her lap). Her eyes fixed to her feet. In her head, memories played like a choppy film, flashing images that she associated with the word ‘regret.’ “I’m… I’m not able to give the kids the life they deserve,” she said softly. “Is that regret or guilt…? I don’t really know…” She was quiet for a moment, then exhaled a deep breath. “I wasn’t there when my parents died. They… they told me to run, I know, but… Was that… right?” Her hands drifted to the opposite arms, wrapping herself in a small embrace. “I mean… I probably would have died, too… But did I… Did I tell them enough about how I loved them? I was little, but I think… I think…” It felt colder, and she hugged herself tighter. There was a sniffle, and a moisture in her eyes, but no tears escaped just yet. “I don’t know what I think. I’ve thought of so many things I could have told them, and want to tell them… did I do enough? Did they know?” The questions were to herself, whispers by the time she said them. She shook her head and sniffed again. There was enough space between Cadence and the birds beside her to put the plate down on the root she’d chosen. Those beady little eyes yet stared up at her with excruciating intensity as the glade went silent. Nothing within stirred. It was as though the very wind and forest had ceased their activities as the magi spoke. Riah said nothing all the while. The opening of the hood stayed trained towards Cadence. The cup and plate had been set down onto her lap, still now.
A few heartbeats passed with nothing but pure silence. Eventually, however, the voice spoke out again. This time level in tone. ”See? Such a thing, isn’t it?" Her head tilted once more to the side. ”You know, regret and guilt are quite similar because they often go hand-in-hand. By definition ‘regret’ is a feeling of sadness, repentance, or disappointment over something that has happened or been done. Or rather, in your case, what has not been done." Riah explained with a gentle hum of thought. ”In other words, how you failed or feel you’ve failed. And that is precisely what creates guilt, my dear Little Crow."
The other woman’s head cocked to the other side. ”The feeling you committed a wrong. That you couldn’t do right. That you failed yourself or another. Quite the emotion isn’t it? Feel how it burns so deeply? And coupled with regret, it can be quite potent, hmm? Poor Little Crow." A sad sigh left the stranger. ”Such a big heart. So tender and tearable. Those who feel the most are often hurt the worst. So tell me, Cadence," Now she leaned forward once more.
”What of little Johnny?" The soft and melodious voice inquired. ”Such an awful affair, that. A life taken so sudden. A death found so stark, out there in the freezing cold. Truly a shame. Truly a waste. I wonder which comes first: the regret or the guilt? Though the cold cares for no mortal; it is often found relentless and without mercy. It waits not for time, but forces others to consider it. With things like that, they often make us ask the question: ‘What if…?’ Such a question that is indeed. What if?"

[attr="class","post"] [attr="class","text-lyrics"]I'll sing it forever Cadence kept her eyes squeezed tight as Riah went on. No answers, no sympathy, just more questions. Tears beaded in her eyes until they fell; why did she make her remember such awful things when she seemed to know everything? Just to tease her? Those who feel the most are often hurt the worst“I would rather feel and be kind than never get hurt!” She shouted. Her eyes burst open, freeing the gathered moisture. A small breeze swirled around the area, only strong enough to ruffle a few feathers and her hair. Her face displayed not anger, but something more akin to determination. No, there was no fury welling in the magi, only a swirling mess of emotions mixed with a dash of defiance and topped with exhaustion. The angle of her brows said anger, the intensity of her gaze stated certainty, and the quivering lip apologized for yelling. “I don’t care if it tears or burns or aches, I’m not afraid to let my heart be free,” she said, firmly but with a meeker volume than her recent shout. Slowly, she began to ball up on herself again, casting her eyes down to the space between them. “I… I don’t think you can be happy if you’re always scared to get hurt. Everyone gets hurt. Having love in your heart helps you and other people hurt less.” She started to wonder if Riah was hurting inside from something that happened, too. Is that why she seemed so… unfeeling? Assuming she didn’t derail Riah’s next question, she looked back to her with surprise when it was asked. Johnny… she remembered that, too, a memory mixed with the many others when her last question was asked. ‘What if’ was a question she asked herself initially: what if she searched sooner, what if she flew a little faster, what if, what if, what if! But after speaking to Fey and Drew and other people who looked… He was probably dead before she even got there. “If this is your question… then I already know I couldn’t have done anything,” she said. She hugged herself and closed her eyes for a moment. It hurt, still. It hurt to remember him, to see a dead boy, to think about what his last thoughts were… but it wasn’t her fault. “I worried about it for a long time, but my friends helped me see I shouldn’t blame myself.” Her hands idly rubbed up and down her shoulders; it felt like there was a chill in the air. “But… I’m worried that the kids he was playing with are hurting with regret, asking themselves ‘what if?’” She shook her head slowly. Poor Amy; she was the nicest little girl. It was painful to imagine her blaming herself forever. Cadence tried to check on her but… they didn’t let her back on the estate grounds no matter how much she tried. “I want to help them through it, but I’m not allowed to see them again. All I can do now is pray for them to find peace in their hearts.” [attr="class","text-lyrics"]Always on my lips you will dance so sweetly the leviathan @ GS & BRSW[newclass=.icon-bg]padding:10px;border:1px solid #000;height:100px;width:100px;margin-right:10px;[/newclass][newclass=.iconhere]-moz-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-webkit-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-o-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;[/newclass][newclass=.iconheres]-moz-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-webkit-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-o-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;opacity: 0;[/newclass][newclass=.iconheres:hover]-moz-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-webkit-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;-o-transition: all 0.9s ease-in-out;opacity:1;[/newclass][newclass=.notestxt]padding-top:20px;font:small-caps 10px 'Times New Roman',serif;color:#fff;text-align:justify;padding:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass][newclass=.text-lyrics]display:inline-block;font: italic 9px/100% Times New Roman,serif;text-align:center;letter-spacing:1px;width:80%;border-bottom:1px solid #000;line-height:0.1em;margin:10px 0 20px;margin-left:30px;[/newclass][newclass=.text-lyrics span]background:#fff;padding:0 10px;[/newclass] [newclass=.post]font:11px Times New Roman,serif;color:#1c1c1c;padding:0px 20px 0px 0px;height:350px;width:330px;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;line-height:130%;position:relative;margin-top:-400px;margin-left:100px;[/newclass][newclass=.post::-webkit-scrollbar-track]border:1px solid #000;background-color:#fff;[/newclass][newclass=.post::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#000;[/newclass][newclass=.post::-webkit-scrollbar]width:4px;background-color:#fff;[/newclass]

Again, Riah said nothing as Cadence shouted. There was hardly a stir from the other woman but the wind ruffling her hood. No anger, nor annoyance. All that stirred was the birds around Cadence; their feathers having been slightly upset from the sudden breeze. But other than slight shuffling, they continued to watch.
Silence. Not a word was spoken during Cadence’s answer. And for a long time after, no response was given either. Instead the unseen but felt gaze beyond the shadows of that hood simply stared at the magi. Eventually Riah moved- her head once more tilting to the side- but she did not yet speak. It was only when the silence seemed practically unbearable that she straightened once more.
”You are quite extraordinary, aren’t you?" It wasn’t so much a question as it was a statement. ”You mean it with ever fiber of your being. How peculiar. It’s always a rare treat when someone like you comes around. So very rare, yet so very adorable. And isn’t it so lucky for Her to have you?" A little laugh left the woman as she shook her head. ”Though with times as they are, I think She deserves someone like you."
The tea cup and plate were taken off Riah’s lap. Carefully she placed them to the side before facing Cadence again. Now her hands clasped together in front of her. The small idle kicks of her taloned feet still, and the figure leaned forward. ”I have but one more question, Little Crow." The woman announced in her soft voice. ”The last, but perhaps most important question. You have such a caring heart. Such a kind soul. It’s a lovely quality, make no mistake. Those like you only come once a century, I've found. But for all your heart, it can make some decisions so very, very hard. So I think I simply must ask, Little Crow, for I am curious as to what you would do." Her head tilted to the side, but the feeling of being scrutinized was more intense now.
”If you had to choose between saving your precious family or your little Fiamma, who would you save? And you can only pick one."
