It has been a long, tense day across the length and span of Ethea. Thousands of citizens of every race have gathered together to show their support for their side of the issue. The cacophonous swell of opposing voices fills the air as each side attempts to drown out the other with the sheer volume of their voices. While the day has passed with few incidents, tensions are high and the people are restless. Hours have passed since the polls first opened and the hour in which the results will be revealed. A loud, clear voice cuts through the noise like a knife, demanding the attention of all in attendance. “Ladies and Gentlemen, citizens of Ethea, if you would please direct your attention to the screen for just a few moments, the voting results have been compiled and we are ready to announce the conclusion. A hush falls over the gathered crowd and hundreds of individual faces turn to face the gigantic holographic display or towards the monitors by which those not in attendance have tuned to watch the historic event. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00The hologram shifts from the image of a clock and displays the results. The law has been passed. In a split second's timing uproar follows. One side rejoices while the other laments; all raise their voices in either praise or disgust. DAGOSAn overjoyed man in his late thirties flings his arms in celebration, losing his grip on the camera he’d been using to record the event. The device flies straight and true as though guided by the hands of fate itself and strikes one of the opposing protesters. The young woman falls flat, bleeding from a head wound. Outrage follows and all semblance of order is lost. The overzealous are the first to react, flinging themselves over the concrete dividers that separate the two groups. Fists fly and hateful slurs are shouted as mob mentality takes hold. The fight quickly turns lethal as picket signs are used as clubs and other, deadlier weapons are drawn. FELICIOld men toss jeers and slurs at a group of young magi. One of the members finally has enough and pushes the human away from her with an anger that sparks into minor flames at her fingertips. The reaction of the men is to scream in horror. "She's trying to kill us!" would be the cries heard above all else as they attempt to escape their deaths, all but one who pulls a gun on the woman who had singed his shirt just moments before. From there all sides come in to support the ones they believe to have been the true victim. Hunters, police, representatives of the Runic University, and MLM members who had been stationed there in case of such a reaction. CAMLORNSmaller townships such as Camlorn are slower to descend into madness, but descend they do. Upon hearing of the situation in both the capital and Dagos, local military commanders give orders to suppress any potential riots by any means necessary. Unfortunately, these orders are interpreted as authorization to fire upon both sides and Camlorn follows the example given by the large cities. The scene is one that replays itself in horrifying detail across the land. Many watch in horror as the chaos erupts. Some attempt to flee while others merely watch in utter disbelief, though one thing is shockingly clear. The Second Magi Riot has begun.

► Oh Gods it was happening again.
Lelianna had been a tad nervous to leave Arecia. She had been when it was just her and Nobu and they'd been going out towards the ocean. Not even a city: just the ocean. But now? For the second time in eight years Lelianna was leaving her safe haven, and this time she was going even further from her home. It was a tad unsettling once she got to Camlorn. The voices of the plantlife around here were far quieter. It was more machine than vegetation. Still, what vegetation there was brought her comfort as she came to town to vote. Which had been interesting in and of itself, but she did it.
For what little good it did.
Even if Caroline didn't insist upon leaving soon, Lelianna was planning on it. The Druid missed her true home. It almost felt like a chunk of her had been ripped out the moment she crossed the threshold of the forestry into the rest of Ethea. A piece of her that she desperately wanted to get back firmly into place.
But as she had been leaving she heard it. The gradual incline of noise and hostility. The feeling of dread freezing her stomach and the alarmed whispers of her surrounding was enough to warn her of what was coming.
More violence. More death. The riots had started all over again.
Worst part of it was it looked like the military was firing at both sides. Though Lelianna was nowhere near the epicenter of Camlorn's carnage and chaos, it had spread outwards in ripples. Throwing out her arms she managed to stop at least one militia group by turning the ground beneath them into quicksand, then solidifying it again to trap them from the neck down as people fled. She wasn't out to hurt people if she could help it. But one look at her surroundings and....Gods....
"C-Caroline this is...." Green eyes were wide as she looked around, hearing cries and gunfire in the not-so-distant distance. Frankly it sounded like it was coming from everywhere. "All these people..." Not again. Please, please not again. "W-We should help them! Help people get out before... before..."
Before even more people died for no damn reason.

Notes Let me know if we need changes.
| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS The entire journey, Caroline fiddled with her hooded poncho and the scarf wrapped around her face, making sure they were all snug and secure every ten minutes. Most would call that paranoia, but her fears were very real; she was a wanted woman. Treason and dozens of other counts against her meant she was no safer than a magi child in the cities. Worse, if they saw her here, her cover would be blown; her fake exit from the country and manufactured reports from Maevia made it seem like she was in Wuld or Strun. But there was no way she was letting Lelianna go by herself. It took convincing, but Caroline relented; it was important, of course, but if her time at the government taught her anything, it was that this vote was rigged from the start. Still, she wasn’t going to tell Leli what to do, so she did the only thing she knew how to do for her; she followed and gave her support. Now, as the world around them descended into madness, she was glad she made the choice to do so. She recognized it, too. The chaos, the movement, the noise; it was the same right before the fire, nearly a decade ago. Again… not again. She couldn’t let this happen. She was glad that Lelianna seemed to agree. The tender understanding was cut short, though, as the reality of the situation targeted them. It wasn’t just military; civilians with guns were on the move. One wanted to shoot at them, but Caroline put herself between Lelianna and the assailant, her chassis absorbing the small-arms fire without a problem. She whipped her rifle from its hidden spot on the small of her back, gears whirring as the modular weapon unfolded by the time she had it at the ready. The scope stayed down, and Caroline fired an expert pair of shots; the first to break the gun from his hand, and the second to his thigh, dropping him writhing to the ground. “He’ll live,” she said, and urged Leli closer to whatever cover they could find. Once they ducked behind the corner of a building, or a car, or whatever was closest, she crouched down with Lelianna. “I don’t want to let people die, either. You’re the best chance at getting people to safety; the magi might not listen to a non-magi with a gun, like me. We can use your magic to get people out.” She peeked around covered and surveyed the chaos with a dire expression. “I can cover you, maybe disarm some of the guns, save some lives.” She put her hand on Lelianna’s cheek and stroked her soft skin with her thumb. “We can do this together. This time, we'll save people; it won't be like it was in the past, we can make sure of it. I’ll draw what gunfire I can; I’m trained for it, and none of these other people are. While I have them distracted, try to get people away from the chaos.” Now with a plan, Caroline advanced forward towards the chaos, using whatever she could as cover; mailboxes, buildings, cars… She never went more than thirty feet from Lelianna, so they could keep an eye on each other. She waved and called out to the innocent people caught amid the chaos. “Go, keep going this way, head towards that earth magi!” When it came to it, though, Lelianna’s methods of saving lives was not the same as Caroline’s. The cyborg believed in protecting people by removing the dangerous ones as soon as possible. She sighted out particular people; armed military personnel with assault rifles, hunters, anyone firing into the crowds. One by one, she dropped them with a loud crack from her rifle. Come on, you bastards… The tell-tale signs of bullets ricocheting near her indicated her plan was working; she was being pointed out as a threat, and giving other people a chance to get away. Now all she had to do was focus on dodging gunfire... |

| Reach out your hands Don't turn your back Don't walk away How in the world Can I wish for this? Never to be torn apart Close to you 'Til the last beat Of my heart | Kelri had been in Camlorn selling her baked goods before and after the vote. She didn’t really care who bought them, and just wanted her sweets to bring a bit of a smile to someone’s face. She had purposefully chosen to be out of Felici when the vote happened because her family would be horrible to be around. Besides, she was a tiny bit worried about how her shop would do in the chaos that could possibly ensue. The tiny baker was trying to keep the peace, at least for a little. It was a tense time, but she knew that sweets had the ability to keep smiles on the people awaiting the results of the vote. A cookie here, a brownie there, through the power of sweets, Kelri would bring sweetness to the crowd. Kelri had been selling cookies to a little magi girl when she heard the screams. That… wasn’t good at all. She would watch as the mother snatched the magi girl away from her, with a snarl. “Don’t come near us.” The voice would be sad as Kelri listened to the pair as they began to run. She started to see flickers of souls in the crowd. Oh this wasn’t good at all. She pulled out her spoon and started running through the crowd, dodging those that seemed to be dangerous, aiming for souls that needed to be released back into the cycle. She could do this much as a priestess of Tatara at the very least. Armed with only her spoon that contained her Peach Pit and a baking sheet Kelri began to make her way through the crowd. It was entire chaos and she knew that there was death. The baker turned and twisted, moving out of the way when she could, getting knocked down in the other. Then, things were silent for a split second. Kelri looked up noting she had fallen after bumping into someone. Wait, they looked awfully familiar… “Caro…?” Just what in the world was going on?

► It terrified Lelianna for a split second when she heard gunfire and saw Caroline step in the way. But then she... didn't get hurt. Instead she was the one urging Lelianna off towards cover, which happened to be around a building corner before telling Lelianna the plan. She hadn't forgotten about the man Caroline had shot but, well, he fired at them first. Even to the pacifist she could recognize he'd been trying to shoot and maim one of them.
So the mission was getting as many people out as they could, with Lelianna being the one to direct them while Caroline got the shooters' attention. A plan that Lelianna wasn't exactly keen on considering it meant people would be shooting her girlfriend but... Caroline was tougher than she looked. Lelianna had to trust in her, and she did completely. They were in this together. They'd make it work. They'd save as many people as they could. So with a nod Lelianna leaned forward and gave Caroline a brief kiss on the cheek. It... simply felt right at that moment and conveyed her affection for the one who understood her worry. "Just be safe, ok? I'd hate for you to get hurt." And there was real worry there but Lelianna didn't stop Caroline from taking the lead. She could handle it. Lelianna had to believe that.
Besides, she had her own job to do.
First things first, the Magi needed some even playing ground. People were flooding in from all sides and she needed to produce some cover to not only protect the civilians but try keeping the armed forces out. So reaching into one of her many pouches she began producing a great deal of seeds and tossing them far. In no time at all this section of Camlorn had turned into something of a miniature forest, with giant maple trees creating something of a maze. It was a briefly wonderful feeling to be surrounded by the soft voices of plantlife once again, but Lelianna didn't have time to dwell in it. She needed her plants' help now more than ever. Placing a hand on one she swiftly said: "Please help me get the civilians out while keeping the bad guys away! I don't want to have another slaughter. I don't want to have to bury anyone else again." Her bark-made friends seemed to get the picture.
Using her powers and the willingness of the vegetation she grew, the miniature forest maze Lelianna constructed began cycling people through. Those without guns were sent to Lelianna, who waved them close and kept yelling "Go! Go! You need to get out of the city!" Meanwhile those who had guns were led off to Caroline. Sometimes even bodily flung in her direction. While other times the trees themselves practically ate up the offending shooters- wrapping them up in branches while destroying their weapons with metallic crunches. Out of context it would probably make a good scene for a horror movie: trees full of struggling bodies with no hope of getting out. Not so long as Lelianna was in control.
Meanwhile she stayed close to Caroline and kept a keen eye on her as well. Though her girlfriend was tough the hermit couldn't help but be concerned. If anything happened to her, she'd be devastated. She wasn't about to lose someone else she loved, dammit. Not again. Not to another riot. But then she spotted someone running into Caroline. Not a militia soldier from the looks of it, but someone who'd managed to make it through the greenery. Only she'd ended up where most of the soldiers were going!
Thinking fast Lelianna threw out another handful of seeds in the girl's direction. As soon as they touched the ground they burst into growth as a thick tendril wall of bark to provide cover for the girl. A few high impact thuds hit the wood and made a splintering noise that sent yells of pain through Lelianna's head. However the wooden shield held and obviously did its job: protecting the innocent girl who'd rushed in suddenly. "Come this way!" Lelianna yelled out. "Get away from the shooters! Over here!"

| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS “A few bullets could never keep me from you,” Caroline said after the kiss on her cheek. “I’ll be fine.” With that last reassurance, it was off to action. The trees and plant growth were a welcome (and brilliant) sight; even in the heart of a small city, Lelianna could depend on her connection to nature to help people. She had to do her part to make sure the plants, and Lelianna, could do theirs. The cyborg had no pity for those who would fire upon unarmed people. Her shots were placed to kill, with the deadly precision one would expect from her. Her plan was working; she didn’t try to be a hidden sniper, but rather an obvious one, to turn the guns from unarmed humans and magi to a real threat, to someone who could fight back. Unfortunately, that meant she was coming under heavy fire. A few bullets hit here and there, and she was forced to keep moving. Somewhere along the way, her hood was ripped and torn back, revealing the top of her head, her purple hair, and eyepatched visage. She was too focused to adjust that, though; it wasn’t like anyone here would recognize her, right? But life was full of funny coincidences. As she dashed from one cover to the next, she reloaded the clip in her rifle, cursing herself for not bringing more ammo along. Her mind was everywhere except right in front of her. The collision was imminent. Thud!Caroline reeled back in surprise, losing her balance and dropping to one knee. Her rifle was in front, ready to address a potential threat. But when she saw the face, her eye widened. Caro…?Before she could figure out what to say, a shield formed to the side of Kelri and exploded in a shower of wooden shrapnel. Instinctively, Caroline dove forward to cover her from shards and further gunfire. Looks like they owed Leli one. Caroline slid off Kelri, formed her shield from one arm, and provided the woman some cover. “I’ll explain everything,” she said. “I promise. But we’re not safe here! Get to Lelianna!” She pointed to her redheaded girlfriend. Desperation filled her voice, and she flinched as bullets slammed into her shield. Shit, there was no time for a reunion. “We’re trying to get people out safely! Help her! Go, I’ll cover!” Without another word, she stood and strafed to the side, firing a few shots to draw attention to her. She slid into cover and reassessed her situation. She had less than ten shots left in the rifle, so she’d have to make them count. Pain ached in her nerves; her chassis stopped bullets, but they still felt like bites all over her skin. And it was only a matter of time before they switched to deadlier rounds. |

| Reach out your hands Don't turn your back Don't walk away How in the world Can I wish for this? Never to be torn apart Close to you 'Til the last beat Of my heart | Kelri had so many questions, so many questions that just didn’t have answers but her friend was right here, her sister was right here. People thought she was dead… biting her lip Kelri’s mouth opened and closed on confusion. There were so many things to say, to do, and all she really wanted to do was give her friend a hug. However, apparently, that was just not going to happen. Before she could figure out something to say Kelri winced as something exploded right by her ear. There went her hearing temporarily. She turned to see… bark? It somehow had shielded her from the shrapnel and gunshots that were coming towards her and Caroline. The last time the two had gotten into this situation had been at one of her father’s hellish training scenarios. The riots were nothing like that, and Kelri hadn’t had the protection of some sort of tree spirit, or… magi? Yup. Caroline was pointing to a magi, antlers, and everything. Oh, there would be so many questions to be had. For now, Kelri would follow the voice that told her to venture forth towards the antlered, green clothed magi. “Fine, but you owe me.” A scowl would come across her face as she would move towards the redhead, scrambling over, trying to get away from the gunfire. She could dodge fairly well, but dodging bullets was on a whole different level. Like super hero level. Kelri was not a superhero. She was only armed with a peach pit wooden spoon and a baking sheet for crying out loud. She held the baking sheet up protectively, (not that it would do much against BULLETS) but nevertheless she would continue on. Finally reaching the redhead antlered woman Kelri would look her up and down. “So, you friends with Caro?” yes she was making small talk in the middle of the battle. It’s what she did. She also was judging the magi, harshly at this point. After all, it had taken Kel years to work up to friend’s status with Caroline. A random magi was able to? Naaaaah something was up. “I’m Kelri, who are you?”

The anarchy continues to sweep through the unfortunate township like wildfire. Hundreds fell from the hard-faced militiamen and the barking of their weapons. Not since the dead rose in defiance of the natural order of things has Camlorn suffered such a devastating blow. Disciplined bursts of gunfire drilled into the backs of the fleeing masses, slaying and injuring many. In another section of town, desperate citizens gather freely weapons and ammo from sporting goods stores and other such venues in preparation for battle. Many had lost family and much of what they possessed months ago and they would be damned if what little they recovered was stripped from them.
Back in the town’s center, the magi that had survived alongside the human citizenry were attempting to hold the militia at bay. Walls of ice and stone sprung into existence while fireballs and flashes of lightning strike down one soldier after another. Some magi focus their efforts on dragging the injured to relative safety so that their wounds may be heal enough to escape the slaughter; many die despite the best efforts of these noble and generous souls.
Faced with a somewhat organized resistance, the militia forces break into individual squads to better face the enemy, for that is what their orders have designated these innocents as. A few individuals become separated from their teammates and thrust into turmoil with nothing but the gear they’d acquired beforehand. Some are fortunate enough to regroup with their fellows and continue the attack; others are caught by rabid mobs of angry citizens and bludgeoned to death; many more are simply unable to safely return and abandon their posts in fear of death.
One squad distinguished themselves from the rest. Their equipment and unit patches easily mark them out as members of the REM's elite special forces and their skill and discipline backs the claim. They flow easily through the troubled seas of mass combat as though they were no more substantial than ghosts. Precise gunfire makes quick work of any foolhardy attempts to stand against them. The leader of the pack picks out the shape of the two most dangerous threats in the area and he quickly focuses his team's efforts on their elimination.
"Two targets at three o' clock! Switch to AP and downer rounds and engage! They've got hostages, so controlled bursts! Don't hit any of the civilians!" His subordinates rapidly obey the commands, switching spent magazines for one containing heavier munitions. Then, they proceeded into the maze to engage the enemy combatants, freeing fellow soldiers and executing dissidents along the way.

► It was the plants themselves that warned Lelianna something worse was coming. Some sort of group that was making their way through the maze and setting free the wriggling soldiers Lelianna had wrapped up with branches. And, apparently, they were headed straight for the druid and Caroline.
This was definitely not good.
While Caroline was busy dealing with Kelri for the moment, Lelianna focused her attentions back on her magi-made forest. The spaces she'd allowed for civilians to escape now closed; the entrances and exits sealed off by thick trunks of bark and vegetation to separate the encroaching force from Lelianna, Caroline, and the people they'd already helped get out of there. As much as she wanted to stay and help... she was no fighter. Unlike her parents she had no intention of causing violence if she could help it. And even though it pained her to know so many others were still stuck within the chaos Camlorn had been... She had someone to care about now. Plus others she'd already gotten out that she had to make sure escaped alive. As hard as it was to think, now was the time to leave.
Probably fast.
"Uhhhhhhh..." The magi began answering, clearly distracted as the living wall was completed keeping her, her girlfriend, and the group of people who'd be helped out of the mayhem by the duo apart from the approaching militia. "I-I'm Lelianna and yeah we're kinda, ah, dating now? I think? I-I'll tell you later but ah nicetomeetyouandall- Caroline!" Shouted the magi as she finished the previous words in a rush. "We need to go now! There's some group freeing the soldiers in the trees- I don't know how long they'll be stuck in the maze!" Hopefully long enough for them to get away without losing someone. Finally Lelianna turned to look at Kelri. It was probably quite obvious from the look on Lelianna's face that, yeah, she was worried out of her mind. For a lot of things really. "We should start running! Like, right now!" The magi instructed before hurrying on her own way (shooting a look back to make sure Caroline was following) and shooing the rest of the civilians off as well. "All of us need to get moving!"
And as the magi ran she threw down more seedlings behind her; creating living cover for all those running in case the soldiers just decided to start shooting. Plus, well, a large quicksand pit behind them didn't hurt just in case the militia got through those obstacles just as well.

Notes I will explain everything as soon as we're not being shot at by an elite military squad
| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS “Gods know I do,” Caroline agreed. “Please, help her get people to a safe place. I’ll tell you everything.” With that, she was back to it. Sometime during ducking gunfire, she put her hood back up to obscure her identity once more. She stopped firing long enough to reevaluate the situation with a careful eye, zooming in to see what was going on within Lelianna’s makeshift maze. That’s when she saw the first soldier in uniform… right when she heard Lelianna’s call. REM. Shit, she made herself too much of a target. Of course they would be here. Not good, not good; Caroline knew better than anyone what they were capable of- hell she probably trained most of them. This was why she hesitated despite Lelianna’s desperate calls. Indecision gave her pause. If REM was here, a lot of people weren’t safe; if she backed out now, she might be abandoning people to their fate. Her fingers curled around her rifle; she could do it, she could fight them, stop them, save more people like she promised Lelianna she would. She could make up for her past, even if it was just a little bit. She could prevent more sad stories. She could… she… At the same time, there was no guarantee she’d win, or come out of it with her life if she did. Two people very dear to her were depending on her, and at least one of them would be shattered if she died here. She looked back to Lelianna and Kelri, then back to the maze, then back to them. “Dammit!” She growled to herself. She plucked a smoke grenade from her belt (ironically liberated from the hunter’s guild on the night of her disappearance) and rolled it a little bit ahead of her position. She fell back from cover to cover, taking one pause to whip around, shift her vision to thermal optics, and acquire two targets through the smokescreen, firing shots at the heads of their heat signatures. She didn’t stop long enough to confirm her kills. As her thrusters carried her towards the two and however many people they corralled, she waved for them to get moving down the street. “Go, go, get away and to a building; the streets aren’t safe! They want to put down rioters.” And people like her and Lelianna, who were without a doubt high on their target list. “Find a side street or something!” Leli bought them time with the barriers and quicksand (though she didn't know how much the magic was taking out of her), and maybe Caroline made them move more cautiously, but REM wasn’t some rent-a-cop security force. Every second would count. Caroline positioned herself at the back of the group, so she could keep an eye on their advances and provide what cover she could. |

| Reach out your hands Don't turn your back Don't walk away How in the world Can I wish for this? Never to be torn apart Close to you 'Til the last beat Of my heart | Kel would look at Caro with a nod and a stern looking face. “Got it, but don’t you die either.” The last thing she wanted was her sister to die… again. It had been hard enough on her the first time. She wasn’t going to let it happen again, and she wasn’t going to let someone that Caroline cared about die either. That just wasn’t in the stars today. With that, she was headed towards the red haired magi that Caroline seemed to care so much about. Oh, there would be words with her purple haired friend after this. Trust Tatara there would be words. Right now though, Kel would weave through the people to get to the magi, using her trusty baking spoon (embedded with a peach pit of all things) to hit souls as she passed. It was going to be a busy day for those that had partnered with the God of Life and Death. So many had already died, it was almost as if it was a massacre. Kelri didn’t like this, not one bit, but she had to keep moving. She couldn’t stop and help right now. Right now she was doing as Caroline told and kept moving towards the red haired antlered magi. It was actually quite an awe-inspiring sight, watching the earth rise from the ground, plants sprouting out of the pavement, and people being corralled. If it was a separate situation Kelri would have had great admiration for the red haired earth magi in front of her. Right now she had other things to focus on. Meeting the magi at the holding point Kelri would listen as the Magi answered her questions. Here Kelri was useless. She wasn’t combat oriented, and she didn’t even have a gun. The most she could do was ask questions of this mysterious Magi. “Dating?” Oh, there would be so much to talk to Caroline about. She wasn’t even consulted about this! How dare that purple haired hosted human sassy pants! The baker was furious! “Well, Caro and I will need to have words, yes.” The baker was going to make sure of it one way or another. “So have you guys done the deed yet?”The incredibly awkward questions would continue to come as the two of them were greeted by an incoming thruster boosted Caroline. What were they saying? Something about running? That was a good idea. Kelri would continue to shuffle along as they moved forward, caught with the regular citizens in the group and between Lelianna and Caroline. Somewhat in the middle, which was probably for the best as she was going to be useless in this scenario anyway. Combat was not her specialty. “So. Lelianna. What do you like about Caroline?” Yes, the interrogation was still continuing with the running. It would continue until Kel felt satisfied and right now, in the middle of a riot, she was most certainly not satisfied at all.

Through the maze the elite squad went, the staccato cadence of gunfire leading their way as the moved closer to their objective. Disciplined bursts of gunfire would cut down dozens of fleeing dissidents that were either to slow or couldn’t be saved in time by the ever-shifting maze. Each REM operative and militiaman they came across would be freed and directed back into the fight against the rioters while the squad continued onward, splitting into teams of three to cover more ground quickly.
One of the teams encountered the first signs of adequate resistance when a smoke grenade denotated just ahead of them. A burst of gunfire would spring from the smoke and take one of the operatives full in the face. The woman next to him narrowly avoided the same fate by moving her head slightly to the left and allowing the ballistic facemask she wore to take the brunt of the impact. She was alive, but the impact had robbed her of her senses and knocked the soldier to her feet. The third member of the group would quickly hide himself behind any foliage that might provide him with a bit of cover from the newest foe.
“We’ve got an armed hostile active in the AO!” he shouted into his headset. “One KIA, one wounded!” A sound like a dragon’s roar cut through the clamor, briefly drawing the warrior’s attention as he attempted to pinpoint the source. “Possible cyborg or fire magi hostile!” he added.
“Hard copy!” would be the reply. “Rally up and move in! Let’s get out of this fucking jungle!” The remaining squad members responded to the order in quick order and loaded grenades into the launchers slung under their rifles. Upon regrouping with one another, the operatives would launch their grenades until the path forward was forced open and proceed to follow their prey.
They would bound from cover to cover in groups of three, one providing two groups providing covering fire while the others moved.

► As the soldiers used their grenades to destroy the wall of trees Lelianna had manipulated to buy them some time, the agony of the plants hit the back of her mind with force. Gods no. Memories of Arecia burning came to mind. The outcries of numerous voiceless beings screaming into her skull. The empathetic link of hurt that sent a pang through her heart. Not again. Not again. It had only been a dream that time. It wasn't real. Yet this? Unbidden, water formed on the edge of her vision. Not again.
Kelri's voice managed to snap her back to the present. Do the deed? What? "I-I have no idea what you're talking about? What deed?" Was this really happening? It was better than focusing on the anguish of the trees she'd left behind, but seriously? Who was this girl and why was she asking so many strange questions in the middle of them running for their lives? And what deed was she talking about?!
Fortunately Caroline showed up and gave Lelianna something else to think about. Lelianna stole a glance at her. Thank the gods she seemed alright. or at least as alright as they could be in this current situation. The redhead herself was starting to feel some wear from using her magi as well as running away. Fortunately having to traverse a few miles on foot every day to get anything done in Arecia gave her a bit of endurance. She was sweating but not down just yet. "Right! That way everyone!" The magi yelled out, pointing to the nearest side street she could find. Already she could hear some gunshots coming from behind them, so the soldiers were clearly advancing. A few shots whizzed by them, but the cover she'd sprung up seemed to be doing it's job for both parties.
Whatever side street they found Lelianna would take a hard turn into it. Her focus was on getting away, not killing the soldiers after them unless it absolutely came to doing so. So as soon as Caroline managed to get through (or whomever of their group was last) Lelianna threw out even more seeds behind them to create yet another wall of bark. It was going to take it's toll on her, but she wanted to try cutting off any easy routes the soldiers might have had to their retreating assembly. Anything to lessen the death toll for as long as she could.
Meanwhile; Kelri and her questions!
"I-Is this really the best time?! Now!?" The hermit had to ask with just a little bit of bafflement coloring her voice as she continued running. They were being shot at and hunted! How was this an excellent time to be inquiring about why the hermit liked her girlfriend!?

Notes I hope we stay in here by the end of the event. Would be a good setting for a three-way chat thread with us all
| I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Caroline stayed near the back, providing her own cover for the group as best she could. Unfortunately, she got careless. She snapped another aimed shot from her rifle, going for the center mass of her target. After that, she should have ducked back around the corner of the building. But she instead leaned out to try and snap another shot. When she saw her target already aiming at her, her eye widened and she tried to pull back around the corner, a moment too late. The bullets struck the corner of the building, spraying brick bits into Caroline’s face. She gasped and slapped her hand up to cover the eyepatch side of her head, now beating a hasty retreat closer to the group. The bullet itself did not strike her, or so her diagnostics said; it could have simply lost enough force and been unable to pierce her plating. Still, strips of synthskin were now cut open across that side of her head, one or two even deep enough to expose the metal underneath. Still, a gunshot was nothing new to her; if anything it only pissed her off. Before she ducked in past Lelianna’s new seedlings, she swung back and snapped off a practiced, professional shot, then dove into the side street as the responding bullets went by her. She swung her rifle over her shoulder and met up with Kelri and Leli and whatever group of scared civilians they amassed. Her breath of relief caught in her throat as she saw Leli, though; the toll it was taking was obvious. She knew she could feel the trees, and with the grenades… gods. She ran up to her and gripped her upper arms firmly. “Leli, you have to stop with the seeds,” she said. Her expression was serious, but laced with as much concern as was obvious in her voice. “You can’t do this to yourself! I know you want to save people but you shouldn’t kill yourself doing it! Please.” Kelri seemed to be trying to speak with Lelianna, too, although she missed basically all of the conversation. Hopefully they were getting along. Any comments about her face would be waved off. “It’s superficial, I’m not injured.” They had some breathing room, but this wasn’t the place to be having their reunion. They had to get off the streets; it was the only way they were going to avoid the REM. Even Caroline wasn’t entirely sure she could take on a whole squad, and Lelianna was wearing quickly. Kelri could handle herself, but Caroline would be damned if anyone hurt her, either. She went to the nearest building that seemed closed and unoccupied and gave it a fierce kick, opening it as if there was never a lock to begin with. “We need to get off the streets if we’re going to be safe. Go, go! Get far in and stay quiet.” She motioned with her hand for everyone to trickle into the building. Once they were in (and by the gods she would throw them in if she had to), she had to make a choice. She could follow them in and hope to hide out from the REM, or run off and try to bait them into taking another direction. The latter was her initial plan but… gods, no, she couldn’t. Kelri and Leli would kill her if she died trying to play hero. Instead she whispered the rune words to summon her handaxe, and threw it across the way at another door. It was a perfectly aligned shot, and with her strength and the axe’s unnatural edge, the handle broke off and the door swung open. She summoned her axe back to her and closed the door as she entered, praying that REM would take the bait as they laid low. Maybe something else would take their attention, gods willing. |

| Reach out your hands Don't turn your back Don't walk away How in the world Can I wish for this? Never to be torn apart Close to you 'Til the last beat Of my heart | Oh so she was playing dumb about it. Kelri gave a sort of Hrmph sound as she listened to the magi’s frantic answering of her own questions. It maybe wasn’t the best time or place but she was till intent on getting an answer one way or another. This magi couldn’t really be that dense, could she? That would be unfortunate for Caroline, and she really wouldn’t approve. No no, Caroline needed someone who was smart enough to gather the social clues that she was talking about. Time to get blunt then. “Did you two have sex yet, and how did that go?” There. That most certainly had better be blunt enough. Who cared if it wasn’t the time or the place, it was most likely gonna be the only time she would get a chance to talk to this weird magi, but she would try. Besides, she wasn’t being mean about it, there was her signature super sweet smile after all. Kelri had planned on asking more questions but a few things stopped her. The first being the fact that Caroline showed up right as she asked the first question. The baker was content that her friend was safe but OH MY GOD WAS THAT A HOLE IN HER FACE? “Caroline, what the hell happened? Are you okay?” Kelri was worried about her friend, and the fact that she had a hole in her face now. “Please tell me nothing got seriously damaged and you aren’t hurt.” That would be needed as reassurance for the baker to go any further. The second being that this whole running thing wasn’t working out the best for her. She was not the most… athletically inclined. Sure she loved dancing but her lungs didn’t. Heaving just a wee bit she would follow her cyborgian friend’s GIRLFRIEND as they went down into a side street. The magi had to have been getting tired, they had used a lot of abilities in a very short amount of time. Her face went down into a frown of slight worry. Okay, it was certain, when this was over, Kelri was most certainly baking brownies and cookies and having a sit-down chat with the two of them. “Please don’t over-exert yourself, I don’t think Caroline would like that very much.” The baker nodded towards Caroline as she echoed her sentiment. It looked like this was really taking a toll on the magi. She just got Caroline back, she couldn’t bear to think of how devastated the cyborg would be if her GIRLFRIEND died. Right now though there were too many people shooting at her to even really consider that option. The girl would huff her way through the alley that Lelianna had led them through and go quickly through the door that Caroline took down with her impressive leg strength. She never would get over the sheer amazingness of her friend, that much was certain. “Caro, get away from the door.” The baker worriedly looked at the outer wall of the building. She knew she wasn’t much help in combat, and really the only thing she was good for was working with sweets. This was not a sweet situation. Turning she tried to calm down the humans and magi that had gathered in the group with a soft smile and voice. “Please move to the back of the room, get the furthest in you can, we don’t want to aggravate the people shooting at us.” She would smile and continue to move towards the group that Lelianna had gathered. “We will get through this, that much I can say.” The baker offered a gentle smile before turning back to Lelianna and Caroline. “So, what now?”
