[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]All of the subterfuge and investigations, all the sniffing out false leads (literally, in his case), and all of the work had led to this place. The Square had always been a popular hiding place for Magi who had very little money, but it seemed that the central hideout of the drug dealers who had shot Theron were holed up here. Orion had been keeping watch for a couple hours, waiting for Theron to get all of his peons in position for the final attack. People seemed to come and go from the unit on the second floor with a certain amount of regularity. From his vantage point on the roof, Orion saw his brother approaching from a couple of blocks away, but none of the "lookouts" saw it. Orion had seen to that.
The sun was starting to go down over the city. The window of opportunity was opening. If they did this in broad daylight, there would be cops there in minutes. Once it was dark, that danger would diminish, especially in a neighborhood this poor. No one wanted to piss off the criminals they lived near. They wouldn't call the cops if they had a chance of being identified as the caller. But this was Theron's party. Orion would wait for his brother's go ahead. In the meantime, he was checking his weapons. He had his phone resting on the cloth mat beside one of the magazines he was filling, and his blue eyes flicked down to it every few seconds as he waited for the signal.
All of his magazines were ready. He slid the last one into place on his belt, making sure that the buttons that kept them contained were unbuttoned and ready. With his eyesight and skill, he could put these bullets through anyone on the ground, or in the apartment at his distance. That didn't mean that he didn't have a plan to get down in a hurry, if he needed to. Theron didn't need to know about the Rune that Orion had placed on the ground floor, near his location. He had prepared for every contingency. When his phone lit up, Orion looked down. The corner of his lip lifted in a smile. It was the signal.
He lined up his pistol, eyeing the front door in preparation. Things were about to get started.

| At long last, it seemed “zero hour” had finally arrived. All their searching and investigation over the past weeks had led them here, to a hideout about as run-down and dingy-looking as the surrounding residences. Not an unfamiliar sight, for one in Theron’s line of work, but by the end of the night he hoped to see the thing up in flames— or at the very least thoroughly cleared out. Just as the people within had been out for his blood, he was out for theirs, and if he had anything to say about it, he and his allies would be far more successful about it.
Speaking of allies… Theron glanced up toward the roof where he knew his brother would be waiting for him to make the call to get their raid underway, while he made his way into position himself. A good number of his most trusted employees were scattered around in similar locations about the block, but he’d be lying if he said he had no misgivings about having Orion along tonight. As helpful as his younger sibling had been in tracking down this place, and as capable a fighter as he was, he couldn’t help but worry about him. Dragging him down into the conflicts of the underworld with him was something he'd never wanted, and yet, here they both were all the same…
As he arrived in position himself, he worked to shake off these misgivings, and focus on the task ahead. Orion would be fine, as would he and the rest of his workers. Pulling out his phone, he made a few quick taps on the screen and put it away again, exchanging it for the pistol holstered under his arm. The signal had been sent, and it was time to get moving.
Hina the pangolin magi was one of the first to lead the charge, tearing up chunks of mortar and earth to hurl at unsuspecting thugs alongside others armed with guns, blades, or magic of their own, while a few shooters positioned on rooftops of their own dealt with the lookouts posted outside. For his own part, Theron joined the ones rushing the ground floor, raising his pistol to shoot at the first sign of opposition.

[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]The battle started with the Magi that Theron kept on retainer. Like all magic, it was messy and it created instant chaos. Men began yelling as they raced from the room, and Orion allowed himself a satisfied smirk as he heard someone yelling about the sentries. As soon as he saw a face at the window, he fired. With the small tinkle of breaking glass, the man collapsed from sight, a red splash of color marking his exit. The battle was starting in earnest now, and Orion's pistol barked again and again as he helped to thin out the numbers. Orion wasn't sure what the man in charge looked like. That was Theron's job. But he was doing his best to clear the path to find the man. A few stray bullets found their way to his position, but he took down those shooters quickly. Most of them would have no idea where his fire was coming from.
Orion moved along the rooftop, moving as the tide of the battle carried away from his line of sight. It seemed that there had been a number of them who had decided that the fire escape was a good escape route, because a head popped up from the opposite end of the roof. Orion didn't hesitate. More yelling told him that there were more men coming. He needed to keep the high ground in their favor, or a complex like this could be little more than a shooting gallery. When the next head appeared over the edge, Orion took care of him, and ducked behind a brick chimney to change magazines. The empty plastic magazine was switched out within less than two seconds, but that was enough time for several people to get on the roof. Sprays of mortar filled the air as they fired on his position.
He glanced around the edge, jerking back as a bullet shattered the brick a few inches from his face. He fired his next two shots blindly, estimating based on the sounds of their gunshots. At least one hit something, because he heard a man yell in pain, and Orion poked his head around to see that the second was distracted for a split second. Orion's pistol barked again, and the man went down. The injured one had only been hit in the shoulder, but that was enough to take out the average shooter. The Hunter didn't take any chances. The next bullet went between his eyes.
With the situation on the rooftop more or less handled, Orion looked down on the ground level, skimming with his eyes in search for his brother's spiky black hair.

| In a matter of moments, the hideout Theron and company were invading became something more akin to a slaughterhouse. Bullets flew, and barriers of stone and ice rose to protect those shooting them while their unsuspecting quarry scrambled to draw their own weapons and return fire. Some never got the chance, others turned tail and ran instead, and both of these fell fairly quickly.
There were others, though, who were able to find cover of their own in the chaos, and start fighting back. These were naturally more problematic, but Theron was determined to see them all fall, one by one. Unfortunately, a particular face he’d been hoping to see wasn’t on the ground floor, which meant he wouldn’t have the immediate satisfaction of eliminating the group’s head, but that was fine. He could be patient.
In the meantime, he worked alongside his crew to take down those still standing in the way. Though not nearly the crack shot his brother was, he was still able to fell a good number, either by himself or with the assistance of another. And as time went on, more and more fell— on both sides. A familiar voice cried out in pain nearby, and a heavy thud followed. Cursing, Theron allowed himself just enough time to look to see that they were being dragged to safety while he reloaded his gun, before rounding a corner and opening fire once more.
More casualties piled up on both sides as the battle dragged on— although thankfully the numbers were fewer on their side of things— and eventually the first floor was clear, enabling those on the ground to move on to the next. Once more, Hina led the charge, erecting a moving barrier in front of them as they traversed the bottleneck of the stairs, and slamming it into the nearest pair of enemies as soon as they reached the top, while Theron and the others caught up and took to shooting up the next set of halls and rooms.

[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]The fire escape was probably the wisest route down at this point. With the rooftops cleared, Orion made his way across, searching for the route that the enemy had used to get to his position. There was still a man on the fire escape, shooting in through the open window, but Orion's bullet put a stop to that. He shoved the body out of the way as he climbed across to the next room, scaling the building from the outside. The next room was full of people holding their position. And Orion placed a Falcon's Eye rune on the brick wall to see through to their positions. With that in mind, he shattered the glass with his next shot and took down two of them that were guarding the entrance to the room. He swung back away from the window to cover as the gunfire turned on his position.
Luckily, the Falcon's Eye gave him advanced warning when any of them ventured to fire on his position. He was able to keep out of the main line of fire while providing flanking support all at once. It was ideal, tactically speaking. But he would have to wait for Theron's group to take the room before he could come inside. There was no cover near the window. It didn't take long for the combined effort to thin the ranks, and Orion climbed in the window as the last of the enemy retreated from that position. He was burning through a lot of ammunition with this fight, and he knew he only had about a magazine and a half left. The numbers of the enemy were impressive, to say the least.
"You still alive, Theron?" he called, glancing back through the open door.
Thankfully, they'd made the plan alongside the members of Theron's syndicate, so friendly fire was unlikely to be a high risk. Little as he liked working alongside these Magi, he'd agreed to it because it made tactical sense. It would have been stupid to keep from using any advantage they had. But there was no time to socialize now. There were only two rooms left on this floor, and if the boss wasn't in one of them, he wasn't in the building. Which would mean that this was all a waste.

| Theron’s group split once they had all reached the top of the stairs, each set heading toward the two rooms on the second floor once the main hallway had been cleared. More bodies fell, and were either kicked aside in the case of the opposition, or dragged away by their fellows when the opportunity arose, and bit by bit the enemy ranks continued to thin.
For his part, Theron took point on the left side, picking off thug after thug as best he could. Somewhere above all the chaos, he caught the sound of Orion’s voice, and flashed a fierce grin at the question, even though his brother may not have been able to see it. “You haven’t gotten rid of me yet,” he called back, almost laughing. By now it seemed quite certain their victory was soon to come, and he was excited to see it through.
First things first, though, they had to track down the leader of this unfortunate rival band. Unfortunately, Theron hadn’t caught sight of him in the room he’d chosen, and a quick check of the space after the space was cleared confirmed the man wasn’t there. A low, frustrated snarl left him before he raced off to join the band still fighting in the final room.
On arrival, he found the enemy had made something of a final stand there, with barricades made as well as they could be out of upturned furniture. The lot inside seemed to have heavier weapons available, as scattered bursts of fire kept those trying to shoot back through the doorway at bay. As he approached, Theron quickly flattened himself against a wall to avoid being caught in a spray of bullets, and cast his eyes about until he found his favorite earth magi taking cover on the opposite side of the door.
“Care to shake ‘em up a little?” he asked, earning himself a grin and a nod as part of the building began to rumble. Chunks of rubble gathered around Hina as she focused, spinning and swirling. Then, as her eyes snapped open, the mass tore into the room, disrupting gunfire in exchange for startled or pained cries from those within. Theron and his people were quick to react, spilling into the space to finish off those who remained.

[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]Orion pressed his back against the wall, on the opposite side of the Magi. This was going to take some creative tactics. He looked at the next door down, and a small smirk touched his lips. He looked over to his brother for a moment, trying to decide how to introduce the idea.
"Don't go into the room until I give the signal," he said. "You'll know it when you hear it."
Without another word, he kicked the door in to the apartment next door, and was gratified to see that no one was home, except an exceptionally startled cat, who grumbled and snarled as she dove under the nearest table. He ignored the cat and placed a rune against the door. Falcon's Eye often came in handy, and he got an idea of the set-up of the small stand that they'd made, seeing where everything was situated. Well. That made things easy. He knelt over the small coffee table, drawing up a new rune for the situation. Grenade was useful, but when combined with Fortify and Delay, it could make some nice doors, too.
He placed it on the wall next to the Falcon's Eye, and waited until the earth Magi had made some chaos before introducing his own. He ducked behind the bedroom door, trying to shield himself from the blast. When he spoke the word, the grenade exploded violently, tearing through the wall and taking out whoever was unlucky enough to be standing near it. Orion opened fire on the newly flanked thugs. They couldn't fight a battle on two fronts, and his pistol wouldn't let anyone else through.
"That was the signal," Orion called, aiming at the nearest man, who was trying to force his way through the wreckage.
His pistol fired twice, once at the man, and then at the next guy, who tried to use the dead thug as a meat shield.

| Orion had an idea, did he? Well, alright then. “Whatever you say, little brother,” Theron answered him, half tempted to throw in a salute as he watched his sibling dash off into the next room over. A few quick words with his people ensured they would follow the order to wait as well, until whatever signal Orion had in store for them came.
Apparently, that signal came in the form of an explosion moments later. Fighting a snicker, Theron rallied with the rest of his team to join Orion in this last round of fun, sending a few over to flank with him while the rest handled things from the doorway. Between the two uses of magic, the last stand here had been left in shambles, and they would be able to make fairly short work of those who were left.
There was one individual, however, who would survive just a bit longer than the rest, and the second he saw him, Theron fired, not for the chest or head, but for a leg. The man crumpled much like his fellows, but unlike them, he was still breathing when he hit the ground. Of course, they'd fix that soon enough.
A quick signal to his earth-toting friend ensured the man stayed down, pinned by brick and mortar. When the last of those still on their feet had been dealt with, Theron walked over to him with a small, satisfied smirk on his face. “I’d say something about being more careful next time,” he said, staring down at the rival leader Hina had pinned to the floor. “But there isn’t really going to be one of those for you.” With a final, resounding crack, Theron put a bullet through his skull.

[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]Orion's gun was still in hand as he looked around the room, double checking to ensure that no one was left breathing. It seemed that their little group had been remarkably thorough in wiping out the rest of the criminal band. It had been very different, fighting as part of a large group like that. Orion rarely had the chance to fight alongside another Hunter, considering how many of them had died lately. It was becoming clear that the Hunters needed a serious restructuring. But he wasn't the one to do it. His plans had been shaping up since he'd met Kalidas, even before his exploratory questioning sessions had all failed.
He needed intel. He needed to know more about Arithelia, and the only lead he'd gotten had been that priests of Arithelia knew more. Considering that every known temple had been destroyed, that meant Orion was going to have to go far afield to find it. He turned his eyes onto his brother as the enemy died, taking a short breath. Perhaps now was the best time to tell him the real reason he'd come along. He stepped over a couple of fallen bodies and made his way over to his brother's side.
"Mission accomplished," he said, giving a small smile. "It was... nice to work with you. But I have to be honest, Theron. The reason I came along was to know that you'll be safe while I'm gone."
He holstered his pistol, looking down at his belt for a moment before saying anything else. He wasn't good at explaining himself. He was even worse at trying to communicate feelings. So, he supposed he would just have to muddle on through. He glanced at the earth Magi, and reworded the thought he'd had in mind before he started talking.
"The goddess gave me a task, and I'm going to have to leave Ethea for a while to get it done," he said. "My boat leaves in the morning. I'm not sure when I'll be coming back."
He sighed to himself, feeling weary now that the adrenaline from the fight was starting to fade. But he wasn't going to be deterred from his mission, whatever his brother had to say to that. Whatever Theron's feelings, Orion had a job to do.
"I should think you have a lot of cleaning up to do around here," he said. "So I guess this is goodbye. For a while."
