► After that particularly intense experience, the druid had gotten absolutely no sleep last night. Every part of her body felt weary. As though she actually had dahsed her way through all of Arecia in a race against a forest fire. Lucky her. Also because of that, the hermit absolutely refused to let Stewart out of her sight. The tiny sloth was coming alongside the woman today with arms slung around her shoulders. Not only that, but the hermit went out to find Skjorn. Who fortunately was still covered in soft brown fur. Which the druid immediately face-planted into upon finding him. The big bear, perhaps reading the magi's mood, thankfully didn't do more than grunt at her. the girl was beat but ever so thankful to see her fuzzy friend alive and well. It really had been just a dream. Thank the gods. Together- Lelianna riding atop Skjorn in a slumped heap- they made their way back out to the flower fields. She just needed to see some vibrancy right now. All her own flowers had wilted away after last night. Seeing some of the other ones might do her good. That's how she ended up curled up with Skjorn in the middle of the field. The flowers had mostly moved out of their way to prevent themselves from being crushed, but Skjorn was still a big bear; there were going to be a few trodden plants. Out here, with her friends, she felt far better. Still a little shaken, but it was hard to stay panicked when basically completely engulfed in fur. During this she still didn't sleep. No, she was still a little...hesitant to try that again so soon. Instead she went into a trance by focusing on the surrounding vegetation. Now this was what she was used to. No screaming. Not the entirety of the forest baring down on her. Just gentle sensations and feelings that could lull her into a state of peace. ~Lelianna!...Okay so that was new. The hermit was almost rocked right out of her trance by the soft voice that played in the back of her mind. Was that...Had she actually heard that? After re-centering herself and focusing once more...yes. Yes she had! The voices were very faint. only whispers at best. But the magi could hear them; the sounds of the flora around her. It was similar to Y'enthal but not quite as powerful in presence and volume. Though that didn't really matter as much to her. She could hear the plants! Even though exhaustion colored her features, she was at least smiling faintly all curled up with Skjorn while she focused on the curious sound of the plantlife nearest to her. It was so very strange yet...comforting, in some way. At least they weren't yelling; it reminded her more of a babbling brook really.

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Another day, another trip to the flower field. With the cloudiness and storms over the last few days, she was cutting it closer than she liked with her power levels. She had plenty for now, but she couldn’t go looking for hunters today, and she didn’t like the idea of cutting it close if a few managed to find their way here. She stepped out of her tent and knelt in front of the little plant Lelianna had entrusted to her months ago, and frowned. No, it definitely wasn’t doing well, even with the plentiful rain and sunny spot she chose to place it. With a shake of her head she stood back up and started on the trek towards the field. It was days after her personal sharing with Lelianna, and every moment she was alone at her tent was a moment she spent pouring over pictures and thinning the fog that hung over her memories. The bits and pieces were linking, slowly. It was still a heavy mental burden to see her mother’s face once more, and get hit with all those old thoughts and feelings, but she managed to work through it every day. Today, though, she needed a bit of a break. She gave a small wave to Lelianna as she entered the brilliant clearing. It seemed she recruited Skjorn and Stewart to join her, as well. “Hello, Leli. Skjorn. Stewart.” She called. She watched her feet to avoid treading on what flowers she could, and was something of a pro at it by now. She kept her approach slow but steady, watching to see if Skjorn had anything to say about Caroline getting closer. Once she was near their little pile, her cheerful smile shifted into a concerned look. “Leli, are you well? You look exhausted.” If Skjorn didn’t give her any attitude, she would sit near the three of them, sighing happily at the feeling of the sun churning her solar receptors. A little bar in her HUD portrayed a little cartoon symbol of the sun, to indicate she was getting maximum light. Much better.

► Initially Lelianna didn't even react to Caroline's words. She was already listening to a bunch of other whispers at the moment so it was kind of hard to differentiate. Especially given it was her first time hearing this many. However the growl and shift of the bear beneath her brought her attention back to the present. Drawn out of her daze, Lelianna sat up and rubbed her eyes. "Skjorn what-"
As her sight focused once more she noticed Caroline. Caroline! "Caroline!" The hermit said. Though there was still a note of weariness in her features an elated expression came to her face. When she'd found Stewart, Skjorn, and the forest untouched she'd figured her neighbor had been much the same. Still, it was wonderful to have that be confirmed.
Clambering off the big bear, Stewart still attached, the hermit made her way towards the cyborg. Other than a low grunt and stare, Skjorn didn't give the purplette much trouble. He even laid his head back down almost uncaringly while Lelianna made her way over to Caroline. Though he was still watching closely. Once the druid got next to Caroline she threw everything to the wind and embraced the woman in a warm hug. At that point it really didn't matter what the other woman was: friend, best friend, girlfriend- it made no difference. All Lelianna cared about was that when she hugged the other there were no signs of burns.
Caroline, like the others, was indeed alive.
In a heavy sigh a great deal of tension the magi wasn't even away she had melted from her. This time she didn't immediately pull away. She kind of lightly clung to the girl, leaning against her in a bit of a slump. No bird's words were going to fluster her in this moment- in this state. "Hey Caroline." The magi breathed. The words came out softly but genuinely happy. "I'm really, really happy to see you."

Notes Oh, hi there. Um. You seem chipper.
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Oh, she was coming for a hug! Great, Caroline knew hugs now; she had gotten used to them since coming here, both thanks to her and Stewart. She was ready for this! Or, well, she thought she was. She didn’t expect it to be such an intense, full-bodied fling against her. Fortunately Lelianna’s weight was barely enough to move the heavier woman, who was now standing wide-eyed at the unexpected … feeling behind the hug. Just when she thought she’d know how to react, she was caught off-guard once more. Not that it was a bad thing; she enjoyed feeling Lelianna so close to her… even if hugging her back was a little awkward at first because of the sloth backpack. “Oh! Ah, hi? I’m really happy to see you, too,” she said, echoing the sentiment with no small amount of confusion. She didn’t complain that Lelianna wanted to stay pressed against her, but she still would like to know what’s going on. “You seem… particularly cheerful today. Oh, hello there, Stewart.” The sloth noticed her, and she moved a hand up to gently pet his head and back. It seemed to be a day of clinginess all around. “You seemed rather exhausted and… down, but you seem to be as lively as ever. I’m glad.” She leaned her head to the side and looked at Skjorn with an earnest smile. Ah, he seemed to be a pouty-butt today, as usual. She looked down to Lelianna, slumped against her, and felt very flushed all of the sudden. Goodness, were all non-cyborgs so soft? She could hardly remember what it was like, and even if the synthetic skin was smooth and padded, it still seemed to come up short of the real deal. “It’s nice to see the sun out today,” she continued. “Are you all just out here to enjoy it?”

► Yeah the earth magi had basically soft tackled the other girl out of sheer joy and relief at seeing her. It had all been a dream. One really bad, really intense dream. Caroline was really, truly there right now and talking to her. Thank goodness the hermit was all cried out. She was too tired to give any more tears. Too relieved at the sight of her friend for the sadness of that moment to catch up to her.
Plus really too done to move out of that position at the moment.
"You...could say something like that I guess." The druid mumbled. Her face was basically just buried into the other woman's shoulder. Intimate position be damned. She needed this- even if she hadn't initially realized it. She'd gotten her comforting, confirming snuggles with Skjorn and Stewart. Now she needed some with Caroline. Or at the very least a hug to assure her that Caroline was real. The form she was pressed against indeed existed.
This wasn't a dream. Surely not.
Still not detaching her unless Caroline made a comment, the hermit took a second before responding. "Sort of. I kind of needed to just relax for a bit so i ended up dragging these two along." In reality she was after some form of comfort. But not a silent, reflexive one like what she'd get at the pools. Active comfort was what she needed right now. The flower field was a perfect spot for that. Plus she'd learned something new! Which reminded her actually.
Lelianna turned her head so she could actually see the cyborg's face and reveal some of her own. Up close the stress and wore-out details of her face were pretty obvious. However her eyes did manage to light up with genuine excitement as she smiled. "I can hear them now, CC." The girl same, voice hushed from their proximity. That and from how legitimately excited she was over this new development. "I can hear the plants. It's only whispers but...it's there. I've only ever heard one before..." Lelianna could still hear the whispers too, though they were far harder to catch when she wasn't paying attention solely to them.

Notes Mysterious head voices! I know those! We have so much in common
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She didn’t get any solid answers from the affectionate magi, so she just… took it at face value and stood there hugging Lelianna. If she wasn’t going to break it off, neither was Caroline. Idly, she stroked Lelianna’s hair; not much, just what bit of it hung down past her shoulder and near her hand. A passing thought in her mind made her aware of how relaxing the action was, how soft her hair felt, and how comforting the floral scent was. She looked down when she felt Lelianna’s head shift up against her, unable to hide the growing confusion on her face. She never knew what was going on with her, and honestly? It was a nice sort of unpredictability. She was interesting. But the new nickname was more unpredictable than usual. CC? She rose her brows in response. “Really?” She asked. She turned her head to regard a random patch of flowers. “I thought you were always able to communicate with them. I take it “hearing” them isn’t how your magic works normally, then.” She hummed. Well, she was the expert here, and it seemed like a pretty big deal… so she shrugged off her confusion and just sort of rolled with it. She learned a little while ago that that was the best way to handle the unknown with Leli. “So the flowers are whispering to you now,” she mused. Not mocking or disbelieving, not by a long shot; it wasn’t that long ago that she was hearing bits of voices in her head for years and years. Her tone was even-paced and conversational. “There’s a lot of them… is it very loud? What are they saying? And… why all of the sudden? Did something happen last night?”

► "Well..." This was always a weird thing to explain. Now it was even stranger because it was changing. She'd already had a hard time saying how exactly she "talked" with plants. Although now technically they could talk back. "Before I could communicate with them but it wasn't...it wasn't normal speech. Not like how you and I are talking right now." Lelianna said with a glance up at the cyborg's face. Then she looked over at the surrounding flowers. Those whispers were still there. Faint, but present. If she focused on them she could actually distinguish what they were saying. "It was more like...feelings. Like I could sense their mood. How it shifted and changed depending on the situation or what I said and did." That was the best way she could put it.
"But now...it's actual words. I'm not just sensing what they're feeling- I'm actually hearing their conversations." And quite honestly that was wonderful. Maybe a little more wonderful based on the fact she was pretty sleep deprived right now and the whole world was a little swirly and fuzzy at the moment. But nonetheless wonderful. Lelianna focused on that first. "They aren't loud. Just whispers. If I focus I can hear what they're saying. it kind of reminds me of a babbling brook to be honest. A sound that just kinda...goes, y'know? It's not really too bad."
There was a bit of silence while Lelianna simply enjoyed that fact. She definitely wasn't stalling from answering that last question. Certainly not because it brought up the images from last night. Instinctively her grip on the other woman tightened somewhat. Not deadly bear-hug levels, but there was definitely a feeling of... something like worry in the action. As though merely thinking about the dream drew out a certain fear from the redhead that the figure she was currently embracing would either disappear or...something else.
Lelianna exhaled in a long, subtly shaky sigh. "I had... a really bad dream." It came out in a mutter. She really didn't want to relive this but she didn't want to worry Caroline too much either. "I saw my... Arecia was on fire. I could hear... I-I could hear all the animals yelling and the trees were in so much pain. Everything was burning up. And then I-" She could already feel the emotion rising back in her chest. A painful clenching feeling around her heart that made each thud feel stressful. Lelianna buried her face into the spot where Caroline's shoulder met her neck for a few moments.
Remember; it was all a dream. Just a terrible dream. Everyone was right here- everyone was fine. That's what she told herself at least.
"You were hurt." Mumbled the druid, her soft voice muffled further from her position against Caroline. "You all were. I found you and took you all with me, but you were all so..." Pinpricks of water started to form at the corners of her eyes. She'd thought she was all out of tears. Apparently she had just enough left to make her eyes watery. "...I'm just happy you're safe."

Notes Who is she trying to comfort more, I wonder
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Caroline listened and nodded along. Did she understand magic? No, not how it worked, at least. But she wasn’t entirely lost. “I see. Before it was just… feeling. Silent communication. Is that right? When my head and body are separated, I feel the same; I don’t verbally command my body, but rather sort of… feel the movements. It’s instinct, and there’s a connection.” She laughed a little, because she started to notice over the months how uncomfortable it made Lelianna that Caroline’s head could detach. “But now it’s verbal? How interesting. I wonder why that is all of the sudden?” Idle musings from someone who was as far removed as magic as you could get; she only saw the effects and knew how to judge them, predict them, defend against them… but did not know a bit of how it worked. It was the same for the Runics. “Well, if it’s like a brook, then that must be peaceful,” she said. “I would worry that thousands of whispers might be louder than that.” She was taken aback by Lelianna’s squeeze. That was… tension, not affection. She looked down at her, concern clear on her face. Her cybernetic hearing picked up on the tremble in her exhale; she couldn’t remember the last time she saw Lelianna so… shaken. And soon, it became clear why. Nightmares. Fire. Death. At the mention of “fire,” Caroline reflexively gripped Lelianna tighter, both as a comfort measure for Lelianna as well as herself. Fire. She had nightmares about it, though less and less since she’d been in the woods. Fire. The horror which haunted her most for almost a decade. The monster that almost killed her. The horrible hunger that took her body, and allowed others to take her mind. She stiffened, unresponsive and barely even able to hear Lelianna, as if she was speaking from far away instead of right next to her. Yelling. Pain. Burning. Yes, she understood that firsthand. She understood how horrible it could be, even in one’s mind. And… it even took her, in this dream. She closed her eye tight. Her hand went to the back of Lelianna’s head and she pushed her closer, gently, afraid to let her go. Her face lowered to rest on her hair. Fire. Horrible. How horrible. She wouldn’t wish that on anyone. In the moment, she didn’t realize Lelianna had finished speaking. She shook her head to clear it. “We are safe,” she echoed, but whispered as if she could hardly believe it herself. “It is okay. It was… a dream. An awful, horrible dream that I am so sorry you had to experience. It’s okay. It’s okay.” And yet she showed no sign of letting go of the magi, unless Lelianna wanted to.

► Why had it happened, she wondered? It was right after the nightmare that things all of the sudden started changing. Had it acted as some weird sort of catalyst or something? Lelianna had no clue. But if it had been the starter for this new development, then what a way to start.
As Lelianna started talking, she too noticed Caroline's reaction. Looks like they both weren't fans of fire. Which set off a little bit of alarm in Lelianna's head, but then again it was fire. Fear of it was kind of understandable. Especially after her dream had displayed the full, destructive force of it. Yeah that hadn't been pretty.
So Lelianna was fine just standing there holding her friend tight and, in return, being held. It was a nice feeling, honestly. A comforting one. Reassuring. The redhead was glad to be this close right now. Because it was hard to imagine someone gone when they were right there. We are safe. Yeah, they were. And finally Lelianna's brain seemed to be accepting this fact. As though she couldn't be quite sure until she heard someone else tell her it was so. Again a great deal of tension left her body in a rush as she exhaled. only now she felt a little more shakey than anythings. Gods had she really been that worried?
A few moments passed and Lelianna wasn't showing signs of letting go yet either. Eventually she started to speak though. "Thanks C-" As the hermit was just about to thank her friend for listening and reassuring her, a grunt registered from behind her. A rather close grunt. See Skjorn had been patient enough this whole time as the two had their touching, sentimental moment. But now it was extending long enough that the big furball had grown restless. It probably didn't help that he could sense the change in mood of his friend. So his solution?
Lelianna registered a fuzzy weight on her back. One far heavier than Stewart. Lelianna might not have been a problem to hold, but let's add on a lunging bear.
"Skjorn n-OOF!" Lelianna felt herself suddenly getting squished right into Caroline as the large grizzly's full weight combined with the momentum of him charging forward sent her and her friend careening backwards towards the ground. Her powers lashed out in a panic to at least soften their fall, but there was only so much she could do. In a big old heap, unless Caroline managed something incredible to save them, the four of them (Stewart was still in there somewhere) thudded into the ground in a flurry of purple, red, and brown; Caroline serving as the bottom of the sudden dog pile. Meanwhile Lelianna was sandwiched in between.
"Skjorn!" The magi squeaked out, feeling partially crushed with the wind knocked out of her. "You...big... fuzzbutt!" His lovely response was to take advantage of the hermit's entrapment and lick the side of her face. It made some of her hair stick up in odd ways from his slobber. "UGGH! SKJORN!" The hermit protested, trying to rear her head away. Thankfully Skjorn was being mindful of her antlers; that could have led to a very nasty wound if he'd landed on those. Fortunately she couldn't move her head very far, trapped as she was. Though that meant her face was literally mere centimeters from Caroline's.
Which also meant she got some of Skjorn's messy kiss herself.

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She opened her eye when Lelianna started to thank her, just in time to see the sky as the four of them tumbled back. Reflexes and strength only went so far; there wasn’t much she could do besides brace for it. Her arms were trapped in a hug around Lelianna by Skjorn’s weight, and in this position there was no way she would be able to lift his dead weight. Oof!Was it a thought or did she actually make that sound? It was hard to tell. She blinked a few times and… there was Lelianna, so close she could feel her breath on her lips. Before Skjorn could get his kiss in, before Lelianna could yell at him, something unexpected happened. She remembered. It flashed by in a moment, but in her mind it was as slow and clear as bits of a movie trailer. Dates. Affection. Crushes. Flirtation. In her adult years, before the fire, Caroline was a human being, and like most human beings, she went through the motions of love and romance. She couldn’t remember many details, but she felt those old feelings. The anticipation before a first date. The sorrow of rejection. The idle joy of daydreams. The fleeting affections of an attractive acquaintance. It was a piece of her feelings and memories she hadn’t even realized she was missing. Of course… attraction. She witnessed it as an observer many, many times, but only now did it dawn on her that she once went through the same steps. And, if memory served correctly… she wasn’t very good at it. No relationships stood out in her mind. Nothing more than a few distant crushes and dead-end first and second dates. Lelianna’s protest at Skjorn snapped her back into present time, just in time for her to notice the slobbery bear tongue heading for her face. She scrunched up her face. “Eugh! Really, big guy?” She tilted her head away enough to sputter away from Lelianna’s face. “Careful, you’re gonna crush Stewart pulling things like that.” This would be the time for her to push Skjorn up a little, to give them room to maneuver. But before she could try, she turned her face back to its original spot, centimeters from Lelianna’s face. When she saw her up close, and felt her breath once more, she blinked a few times and… froze, as if she was just spacing out. Memories popping up randomly was something she was getting used to, but this time her brain just. Would not go. Because now Caroline was acutely aware of the intimate position they were in, and she had no idea how to handle it.

► Lucky enough for Caroline, Lelianna wasn't aware she was having an awakening of feelings beneath her. No, she was more concerned with the big bear tongue currently messing up not only her, but Caroline's face. Speaking of the big lug, Caroline was right; Stewart was probably getting crushed by the bear's weight!
"Stewart!" Oh gods, she had to do something about this. However no matter how much she tried shifting, she was well and truly stuck between her neighbor and fuzzy friend. Shoot. Well, she'd done this to the bear before. Looks like she'd need to do so again. Temporarily unaware of how close her face was to Caroline's, Lelianna threw her attention out towards the flowers around them. Only a moment passed before flowery tendrils wrapped their way around the bear. Skjorn grunted, clearly not too happy, but he was gradually lifted off the two and placed down aside from them.
Finally Lelianna could breath.
While Skjorn pouted off to the side, Lelianna took in a deep- slightly painful- breath and exhaled quickly. Oh that was so much better. She didn't feel like she was being utterly crushed. Though she did re-slump against Caroline now that she didn't have the full weight of a grizzly on her. But on that note, with half her face resting on Caroline's collar, she called out to Stewart: "Hey Stewart, you okay there?" A few seconds passed without answer. Eventually, however, a tiny claw shifted and the hermit saw Stewart's face come into view. He seemed fine for all intents and purposes. Lelianna breathed easy.
"What about you, Caro? You alright there? You had all of us on you, after all." The hermit said with another little shift so she could look up at her friend. "Sorry for Skjorn, by the way. Guess he got tired of not being included." Joked the druid with a little, slightly still breathless laugh. By the gods Skjorn remember that you are a bear, not a cub!

Notes A little bit of mercy for my poor gal
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Also fortunately for Caroline, the awakened memories did not go so far as to connect her and Lelianna in that way (yet, anyway), or else it would have been exponentially more awkward. But she was still acutely aware that the way Lelianna was resting against her now was intimate and making her brain flustered. Confusion set in quickly; sure, it was intimate, but also they were excellent friends, weren’t they? This wasn’t abnormal, right? So why was she freaking out at the same time she was… enjoying it? Is this normal? It felt like a normal reaction, that much was certain. The fuzzy face of Stewart appeared and snapped her out of her thought prison for the moment. She laughed a little; he always looked like he had the dopiest smile permanently affixed to his face. “Huh? Oh, uh, yeah, I’m fine,” she said. “Metal body and all that. Barely even felt it. I’m just glad he didn’t crush the both of you.” She laughed with Lelianna’s joke, but vague thoughts were now whispering occasionally in her head. Guess Lelianna wasn’t the only one hearing whispers, but these were more like… voiceless thoughts that passed in an instant. They drew her attention to a certain thing; Lelianna’s voice, or how she was pressed against her, or… all sorts of things she of course noticed before, but now it’s like her brain was guiding her to notice these things that much more. She was starting to get a liiiiittle bit exhausted with her constant brain weirdness. Recovering from a brain implant meant to section off your memories and feelings was an endeavor, yes, she knew this, and the few months of freedom was not enough to recovery fully (if that was even a possibility), but gods damn she was getting sick of surprises, questions, and confusion. “He’s just a big cub, isn’t he?” She said. She sat up and looked over at the bear, which Lelianna moved without a problem. Her chuckle faded into a sigh, once her mind returned to the pre-interruption conversation. “They’re… difficult, aren’t they? The nightmares. I understand. Some of them feel so real, and hit so close to what you care for the most.” She closed her eye and shuddered involuntarily. “If I never see fire again, dream or otherwise, it’ll be too soon.”

► "He came pretty close!" The magi said. But then again this was actually pretty common place with her and the grizzly. Skjorn was big, and when they wrestled he was not afraid to use his weight to his advantage. That and his sheer size. Luckily Caroline seemed capable of dealing with it herself, as she said. "Well, for Stewart at least. I'm pretty used to the big fuzzkin trying to smother me." With that she shot the big bear a look. Skjorn was currently still being held in place off to the side. As the magi turned her head towards him, he gave her a moody grunt.
What a big baby.
Or cub, as Caroline put it. Lelianna laughed at that. "He really is. A big cub that doesn't realize how big he really is!" As Caroline started to sit up, Lelianna only then realized she was basically draped across the other woman here. She might not be as heavy as Skjorn, but she'd hate to be rude! The hermit shifted off her friend so she was sitting next to her rather than in her lap. "Sorry about that I..." The words trailed off as Caroline sighed. The mood had shifted as their prior topic got brought up once more. At least they weren't clinging to each other as though the other's life depended on it. Still even Lelianna caught that shudder going through Caroline. There was a story there, but one she wasn't about to ask for.
That was definitely going to come on Caroline's on terms.
Her features softened and she leaned into her friend once again. One arm wrapped around Caroline's waist to give her a bit of a side hug. This one far less tight than the previous one. And luckily no bear to squish them and make things weird. Lelianna was kind of running on instinct here. Sleep deprived instinct. Which was telling her that her friend needed some comfort. So she held the other in a soft but well-meaning embrace while she leaned her head lightly against Caroline's (careful of her antlers of course).
"Yeah." Fire was certainly not going to be missed any time soon. By either of the women, as it looked. "I'm really glad it was just a dream..." Now it was Lelianna's turn to shut her eyes. Saying she was glad for that was a bit of n understatement at this point. It didn't take much to bring the images back into her mind. All those burnt bodies and the dying trees... The hermit shivered lightly and gave Caroline a little brief squeeze of reassurance. For herself more than anything. "I would have missed you a lot." Every word dripped with soft spoken sincerity, coming out in more of a whisper than anything else.

Notes Fine then I'll just drown the thread in tragic backstory feels
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS It seemed Lelianna had no intention of separating herself from Caroline, and she… wasn’t going to complain. They shared so many important moments together; this didn’t just feel nice, it felt right. It felt right just to sit here with Lelianna’s head against hers and share a comfortable silence, to help each other through bad dreams and rough times. She put her arm around Lelianna’s back and set her hand on her shoulder. I would have missed you a lotCaroline’s head shifted to try and look at Lelianna, but with their current side-hug position, she never got farther than her peripheral. So very few people have ever said that to her, and fewer still felt earnest. What could you say to something like that? For once, she wasn’t being used; she was being cared for. Cared about. Reflexively, she returned Lelianna’s light squeeze. “Don’t worry. It’s just a dream,” she said. “I’m not going anywhere.” Likely there would be silence after that, which gave her time to think. The mention of fire was still enough to set her on edge, to make her skin crawl and feel warm all over- it wasn’t like the flush of a cheek at Lelianna’s affection. No, it was the warmth of an inferno, threatening to char your flesh and take your life. It was nice now that she could think about other things; dreams were fewer and fire didn’t trigger a reaction as often or as strongly. But she still felt it crawling in the back of her mind, a burden for her to bear for the rest of her life. Her fingers curled at the thought, but one of her hands didn’t form a fist. She felt the comforting shoulder of Lelianna instead. She looked to the side, towards that hand, for a few contemplative moments. Why should she still let it weigh her down? Maybe… it didn’t have to? She took a deep breath, which was an ironic gesture considering the topic she was about to broach. “I’m glad it was only a dream for you,” she said tepidly. She brought her free hand in front of her face and turned it, examining the false limb from every angle. “The real thing is unimaginably more horrible than what a dream can portray. I would not wish it upon even my worst enemy.” Softly, she clenched her fist, and set it down in her lap. A gently breeze whipped by and flowers swayed with it. “I’m sorry. You probably do not want to hear about this after such a nightmare. That was thoughtless of me.”

► Lelianna probably would have agreed had Caroline actually mentioned it out loud. This did feel right, in a way. It was definitely something Lelianna liked, to be honest. It was nice to have a friend. A good friend- a great one as far as she was concerned.
Thank gods that was just a dream.
"You better not." The hermit replied; half teasing, half serious. "I guarantee I'd make sure Arecia tripped you the whole way." Now that was specifically tease. Lelianna... frankly could believe Caroline wasn't going anywhere. Which was really nice to realize. I mean, she kind of figured but now it just sort of cemented the fact. Her neighbor was there to stay. A few small blooms sprouted once more in fiery red locks. Not nearly as many as usual, but it was a definite improvement over having none at all.
They sat there in silence for a while. On her end Leli just sort of...drifted. Enjoyed the contact and what that implied about her midnight worries. Relaxed into the warmth while idly listening to the flora around her. Though that squeeze was something. Something bad? She didn't know. Lelianna looked over to look at Caroline just as the other woman was turning her head to look towards the telltale hand. Which meant their faces had yet again come into extraordinarily close proximity. Currently sleep deprived and growingly apprehensive for her friend, the druid didn't even notice. Especially not when Caroline sighed like that.
“The real thing is unimaginably more horrible than what a dream can portray. I would not wish it upon even my worst enemy.”
Oh. Oh no.
Lelianna had been vaguely curious about Caroline's one fear regarding fire, but she hadn't thought... Suddenly the response to her dream and mention of the inferno made a whole lot more sense. A whole lot more tragic sense.
When Caroline started to apologize for saying anything though, Lelianna was quick to reply to that at least. Using her own still-free hand, she reached out to gently rest it on the one on Caroline's lap. She spoke softly. "Hey, no, it's... you did nothing wrong. Honestly if anyone here had been thoughtless it was me. Mine was only a dream." A horrible one to be sure. But at least those hadn't been real flames that had eaten up everything she loved. Caroline, on the other hand, had dealt with the real deal from the sounds of it.
"Besides I... well, I meant what I said when I told you I wanted to know more about you. Whatever you'd be willing to share; good things and bad things. I feel like then I might be able to... understand you more. Gods know I need help doing that with anyone." It was a little bit of self-deprecating levity, but hey it was true too. "But yeah... I'd be fine listening to whatever you tell me, Caro. Just... at your own pace. I-I don't want to push you or anything. But I do want to get to know you."
