► Good gods it was hard to move through a crowd! Though Caroline hadn't been running, it was difficult to catch up to the other woman. People crisscrossed in front Lelianna so many times. The magi didn't want to be rude and knock them out of the way, but each time they did she could sense Caroline getting farther away. It was aggravating but the magi didn't want to disrupt anyone else's time at the festival. So she did her best to catch up the fair way. Eventually she did catch up and manage to grab the cyborg's wrist to halt her. "Caroline!" Was the first thing the hermit said, breath coming just a tad heavier than normal with her sped up pace to catch the other woman. "Why di-" Before she could continue though, a fresh question popped into her head. "Is Caroline your girlfriend?" With it being said so recently, it was easy for the phrase to suddenly play through her head again. Though her blush had died down in her pursuit of the cyborg, it came back anew. Thankfully less burning and bright, but it was still certainly there. She dropped Caroline's wrist swiftly, instead fiddling with her own hands and averting her eyes for a moment. "I uh...s-sorry." She apologized somewhat sheepishly. But wait Caroline had run away! That's why she was here! "B-But ah, are you ok?" The hermit asked, managing to focus past her sudden shyness to look back at Caroline. The purplette had run away so quickly the redhead couldn't help but be concerned. It showed in her face now (past the blush) as she looked at the other woman. "You, ah...You left so fast I was worried. No one said anything to upset you did they?" Lelianna couldn't quite recall anything, but who knew? "Did I say something?" Was it her fault?

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS How long had she been moving? It felt like not enough. It was… probably rude to just take off like that, but what could she do? If that Fiamma girl recognized her, hell would have broken loose. Ugh, even now, her damn past haunted her. A normal woman might be enjoying the festivities and meeting new friends! But no, there was nothing normal about the woman who had two opposing lives. She felt a soft but firm grasp on her wrist, snapping her from her thought. As a reaction, she whirled around and rolled her arm to free herself. Her reflexes were quicker than her brain. When she saw (and heard) that it was Lelianna, she put her hands out like you would if you accidentally stepped on a dog’s paw. “Ah, sorry! Sorry! It’s… sorry, it was a reaction.” The first thing she noticed was that Lelianna was red from face to flower. The second thing was that she caused the woman genuine concern. She scratched the back of her neck and looked off to the side. “Ah, no, don’t apologize. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you, or to leave so rudely.” She looked back at her and took an unnecessary breath. “No, it’s fine. Everyone seemed … very nice. It’s, ah, it’s a complex situation. I am fine, I promise. I was just a bit out of my element.” She stepped forward, slowly moved her hand up to Lelianna’s hair, and gently examined one of the crimson blooms. “You’re very red. I don’t think I’ve ever seen your flowers this color. At least, not in such quantity.” She dropped her hand and gave her a sheepish look. “I’m sorry, you must have been running to catch up to me. You seem very warm. I… will try not to leave so suddenly in the future.” Only now did she look around and notice the scenery was different. It seemed she moved so far that they almost exited the game zone entirely. “Oh, what is this area?” She asked. The music that filled the background noise of the festival was much louder over here.

► In an incredibly fast motion Caroline had freed herself from Lelianna's grasp. The hermit had to blink for a second. Wow she was quick! Rather than be hurt by the reflex, she was more amazed. "Wow, ah...Wow you react fast." Seriously that was impressive. But also warranted since Lelianna had grabbed her out of no where. Yet Caroline was still apologizing. "O-Oh! W-Well I was the one who grabbed you so, ah, sorry."
But then she'd dissolved into a red mess of burning cheeks and scarlet flowers. Though she could still hear, and what she did brought her some relief. So it hadn't been what anyone said. She'd just been shy. Which honestly the redhead could understand. Especially seeing as she was the most awkward little thing in social situations ever. "Oh w-well I'm glad you're-"
Before she could really say anything else her voice halted as Caroline came closer. There really wasn't much other color to the flowers in her hair other than the different shades of red and occasional orange. Yes, she was exceptionally red. And while Caroline pointed this out, the druid felt herself turning even redder as the voice of her bird magi friend once again echoed in her head. Dangit Cadence! However she felt pretty frozen at that moment to even move. The best she could manage was averting her eyes from the cyborg. And when she talked about something else, the hermit latched onto it.
"O-Oh! We're a-at the meadow. They've got music." As though that weren't obvious enough. Still, it was far easier to point out their surroundings than focus on why she was blushing. Plus, hearing the upbeat music was actually helping her. "You can go out to the floor and dance! I was actually here earlier when you went to the temple." And met a Loooooooot of others surprisingly. Finally a smile started to grow on her face. Though there was still a bit of red in her cheeks (and her flowers), it was hard for her not to smile a tad from the music. She was still energetic after all, and it was starting to come back. "It's really nice. Oh! Would you want to dance?" She even pointed out to the dance floor, where a few other magi were dancing. Plus some kids who were just doing whatever they wanted basically.

Notes She has no idea whether to be afraid or not
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She rubbed her arm and turned away. “Er, yeah. Sorry. Habit.” That was about as much as she felt comfortable saying; she didn’t want to let her know she was a fighter and a killer, and that her reflexes were a result of training and cybernetics working in tandem, honed over years of practice. Which was why she decided to distract herself by examining Lelianna’s blooms. She tilted her head as they shifted to an even warmer hue. It left her awestruck for a few moments; Lelianna’s hair was beyond beautiful- when else could you see flowers bloom and change colors in no time at all? The slow, gradual shifts were hypnotic and stunning, even long after her first time seeing it happen. When she lowered her hand and Lelianna talked about the scene, she looked around. It was a cute little clearing with lots of energy; she really never paid any attention to music over the last eight years, though a vague memory resurfaced to indicate she was a fan of high-energy piano music, played by fun ladies with clever words and beautiful voices. The music here was not exactly that, but it was pleasant on the ears. She smiled and nodded along. She saw the few people (and kids) on the dance floor just living it up as if there was no tomorrow. She straightened up at the invitation to dance. Weird, why did that word instill such a vague sense of dread in her? Confusion spread across her face. “I don’t believe I have ever danced before,” she said. “Not… that I can remember, at least. I don’t know how to dance, I’m certain of that. I don’t think I would be any good, either.”

► No no no, let's not focus on Lelianna's so called 'beautiful" hair that seemed to be getting redder and redder the longer Caroline spent observing it. Heavens at this rate she really might end up fainting.
But yes the dancing was a good thing to focus on. The little jigs the children were doing managed to pull amusement out of Lelianna despite her embarrassment. They really didn't care what they looked like, did they? it was adorable really, and the magi found herself smiling warmly in no time at all. Which meant she turned that expression towards Caroline when the cyborg spoke up.
"Hey I don't think I would be either." The hermit confessed with a little shrug of her shoulders. the red in her cheeks was dwindling away gradually. Green eyes turned back towards the dancing kids and she didn't hold back a laugh this time. "Besides, from the looks of it I don't think anyone would care how good we are. Look at those guys! They're enjoying themselves and I've seen better from Skjorn!" Which was saying something since she was the one who often danced with him!
Unconsciously some other colors began to seep into the petals of the flora in Lelianna's hair. Her excitement was building once again, and the words of her feathered friend were fading in the presence of the music nearby. With an elbow she playfully nudged Caroline. "C'mon, let's do it! I mean, I dance with a bear so I really doubt you'd be worse than me." The druid pointed out with a wide smile. "Pleeeeeeease?"

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She laughed and raised her brow at Lelianna, a smug look on her face. “You. Dance with Skjorn? Are you sure you haven’t hit your head too hard playing with him?” She actually never saw this, but she made a note to keep an eye out for Lelianna’s bear waltz in the future. She didn’t actually find it strange, but it was fun to ruffle her flowers every now and again. “Well, at least each of you has practice. I’m almost certain I’ve never stepped foot on a dance floor.” In the face of her obvious excitement, shifting hair, and puppy-dog begging eyes, Caroline’s military training and cybernetic advantages were completely useless, dashed aside like waves against a rocky shore. She guessed there was a chance perhaps that she enjoyed dancing in the past? If any memories of that existed, they remained locked away in her brain. “Okay, sure,” she said. She was… hesitant, but, well, there really was no reason for her to say no. Sure, she was nervous because she had no idea what she was doing, but the benefit of still having some memories and emotions locked away and jumbled around was that she didn’t connect “dancing in public” to “terrifying experience.” With cautious steps, she headed with Lelianna to the dancing area. “Um,” she said, looking around. People seemed to be doing different things, and the kids, well, they seemed to be playing more than dancing. But then again, maybe that was a type of dance? Caroline didn’t know. “What… what do I do? I have never done this, I think. Is there a specific way to… dance?”

► Hey! In response to Caroline's smug look, Lelianna puffed up. "Hey!" She protested, poking the cyborg in the side. She was not delusional! The very fact she'd just admitted that, yes, she did dance with her bear friend was a pretty big thing. Was Lelianna particularly good? Oh heavens no. Did that really matter to her? Especially at this moment?
Nnnnnnnope!
So when Caroline agreed to it, the hermit lit up once more. The flora in her hair once again shifted with her feelings, responding to her excitement by adding a few more colors to it. If only Caroline had been her earlier when the druid had stumbled upon the meadow. Her hair had practically been a kaleidoscope of ever changing patterns when she'd been talking to a certain store owner.
As the music changed to another rather upbeat song, Lelianna laughed and shook her head. Taking Caroline's hand (and fortunately being so re-swept up in her excitement that Caroline had said yes to ignore the question a tiny bird had asked early), the druid led her out to the dancefloor. "Nope! You just...dance!" She explained with a glance back to Caroline before halting somewhere within the mass of dancing people. "Just follow along with the beat! Like those guys!" With her head she indicated the playing/dancing kids of to the side.
"Come on! You'll do fine!" With that Lelianna indeed started to dance. And just to make sure she wasn't alone she even danced with Caroline, taking both of her hands in her own and having the other woman move too. hey she wanted the purplette to be included in this! Because the druid was definitely true to her word. She was not the best dancer out there on the floor, but by gods was she going to enjoy dancing anyways. There was actual music here! Back in the woods she could only imagine it, but here she could actually hear it! So her main focus was just on having fun. And if Caroline actually started to join in she'd let the woman go (unless Caroline held on) and- to quote a certain song- shake her groove thing.

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Caroline looked around, not entirely sure she was following. How do you just… dance? The hesitation was more from confusion than embarrassment. “You just…? I mean, how do you jus-oh!” Before she could finish, Lelianna’s hands took hers and made her move; she didn’t resist, but her arms were way heavier than a person’s should be; and yet for the druid who wrestled bears, it wouldn’t be any trouble. At first, she was just sort of limp, but then she at least moved her arms along with Lelianna, a permanent questioning gaze on her face that tirelessly asked ‘like this?’ Whether from the dancing or being around so many people or from her odd fixation on the feeling of Lelianna’s hand in hers, Caroline’s cheeks reddened ever so slightly. She really, really was not sure what she was doing, but Lelianna was helping her, and having a great time herself. Like a kid learning to walk, Caroline tried to hold onto Lelianna’s hands; she wasn’t sure enough of this to let herself dance without her help, at least not right now. Gradually, she started to copy Lelianna’s movements; not completely, but in the same general sense, moving her legs in and out and twisting when necessary. She was obviously reserved with every move (and being made out of heavy steel didn’t do wonders for fluid motions) and tried hard not to focus or even look at other people around her. Once she was comfortable with adding her feet to the mix, she started to turn and sway like Lelianna did, with her hips and shoulders. Again, awkward and reserved, but at least she was trying. And she was still not planning on letting go unless Lelianna wanted to; those training wheels were staying on as long as possible.

► Yep: with Lelianna's renewed energy and her already surprisingly strong (don't judge a book by its cover) physique it wasn't that hard at all to take Caroline's hands in her own and actually move the other girl. And move they did! Though it was kind of adorable to see the constantly questioning look on Caroline's face. In response to a, a near constant grin of happiness was on the druid's face. Even though the other woman was basically limp, the hermit was perfectly happy to keep dancing basically on her own. At least until she could get Caroline into it and teach her some of the steps.
She'd taught a bear after all. Nothing was going to be quite as hard as that.
As the music went on and Lelianna just kept on moving and grooving to the beat, eventually her cyborg friend seemed to be getting it. Immediate the face framed by red locks brightened immensely. If that was honestly even possible. Apparently so, or at least her flowers agreed with it. In a spectacular display even the earth magi didn't know was possible, her hair flora had once again turned into a wild kaleidoscope of ever changing color. Only this time it was actually responding to the beat of the music much like the hermit herself was. Pulses of color thrummed through the petals in perfect time to create something that very well could seem hypnotic- or at least solely out of its peculiarity. It definitely got a few awe-filled gasps and smiles from the children while the druid basically led Caroline in a dance to yet another song.
When Caroline finally started adding feet and hips, her dance partner laughed joyfully. "That's it!" She cheered, her lips curled up into a wide and warm smile of approval. Since it seemed her neighbor wasn't ready to let go just yet, the hermit didn't pull away. However she did start throwing a few move twists and turns; teaching as well as entirely enjoying herself on the dance floor. She'd essentially forgotten all about the other people around them in that moment. All that matter was the sound playing through the air and the woman she just so happened to be dancing with. Heaven knows Lelianna was into it; swaying and moving with a fluidity that only appeared in situations like this.
Because the hermit was definitely not smooth in any other case. An unseen force almost seemed to make sure of that.

Notes fucking plot twist: slow song
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS The kids weren’t the only ones awestruck by Lelianna’s prismatic hair. It was a welcome distraction to her constant panic on if she was dancing “correctly” or not. She caught herself staring more than once at the colors, and the way it moved and flowed with the druid, and how she moved, with uncanny smoothness and confidence. Even if Lelianna wasn’t good at dancing, in her words, Caroline thought she was an expert. And beautiful, too. It wasn’t weird to call your friends beautiful, she was pretty sure, but something kept her from blurting the thought out loud. She continued to dance with Lelianna’s encouragement, even if, to anyone watching, she looked bad. It was the type of dance that someone recorded on video and showed you thirty years later to kill you with pure, concentrated embarrassment. Fortunately, Caroline didn’t have that level of self-awareness with this new activity. If anything, she’d continue just to watch Lelianna slay it out there. Each time the song changed, it threw her for a loop and she had to figure it out all over again, which was sort of fun, but also frustrating. When it changed now, however, it felt… different. They’d been dancing for who knows how long, and so far each song had been upbeat and folky. But even the people around them shifted from high-energy dancing as the song slowed. Were they… done? No, wait, they were just playing something… softer? Slower? It did not feel right to dance as she had been, mostly because there wasn’t really a distinguished beat to follow. Now the music was rolling smooth and slow. She looked to Lelianna for a bit of guidance, while dancers came and left around them. Now the dance floor was mostly … couples? Adults, or younger ones, or very young ones with parents or siblings. It seemed that everyone except her knew what the change in song meant. It reminded her of something…. But what was it? “Err, is there a different type of dance people have to do to this song?” She ventured.

► This was fun. This was really fun. And it was all because of Caroline. If the cyborg hadn't come with Lelianna to the festival, much of this wouldn't have happened. The maze, the prizes, this dance; none of it would have happened. The magi couldn't even imagine how the night might have been now without the other woman along. It definitely was a special festival this year; even more special than the other ones. As the songs bled into each other and Lelianna kept on dancing time really didn't seem to matter. Not with the hermit feeling the way she did dancing with her friend. But a break in the tune was what finally brought her back down to earth (ha). This was another new song. A different song. A far, far slower song that did manage to halt her flow a little. "Oh this is a slow song. You don't bounce as much, you kinda just..." The hermit had to think for a moment. Slow songs were definitely not her forte. Even fast ones weren't exactly her forte. No music was her forte unless you counted the sounds of nature as music. "Flow?" She offered. It sounded correct. Ish. "Slow songs need people to have partners and you've got to really move together. Otherwise you could end up stepping on each other's toes." The hermit explained. Thinking for a moment, the hermit adjusted her stance and how she was holding Caroline's hands. She kind of had to look at some other people dancing from time to time, but eventually she did maneuver Caroline into the "correct" position. Or at least close enough, holding one of Caroline's hands while she put the other on her waist. They were a lot closer now. "Okay so for these sort of dances you-" Suddenly though the druid broke off. Up until that point she'd been swept along by the beat. Music had given her confidence, and her dancing made her mind continuously move on. But now that she was standing there having to guide and instruct Caroline on slow-dancing (to the best of her abilities at least), her brain was starting to catch up. or at least she was starting to register things. Like oh I don't know...maybe the fact she was pressed up against the other woman as per usual for these sort of dances. Is Caroline your girlfriend? The words of the bird echoed once more. Immediately a flush came to Lelianna's face, infusing it with crimson as she looked at Caroline. "-Uhhhh..." She trailed off instead, abruptly left speechless for a moment.

Notes I have no witty remarks. Just. Laughter.
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She looked on curiously as her hands were shifted into a different position. Ah, it was warm suddenly- was she blushing? She watched Lelianna, now close to her face, waiting for the next instructions. She… never really got this close to the magi, but now that she was, she could notice all sorts of things. Her many freckles… the pattern of her eyes… the texture of the blooms on top of her head. She truly was a beautiful woman; Caroline was a little jealous of her tiny skin imperfections, having none herself due to the false skin. She also found herself enjoying the feeling of Lelianna pressed against her; physical contact was a rarity for her, and a new sensation altogether in this instance. It was a pleasant feeling; no wonder so many pairs were out doing the same to the gentle song. At the mention of toes she looked straight down between them. “Oh, I hope I don’t step on yours,” she said. “That would… probably hurt a lot. But it’s okay if you step on mine; I probably won’t feel it.” She laughed a little at this, but she had laser focus on their feet now. The last thing she needed to do was break the toes of her best friend, after such a lovely night. She actually liked this song more than others. “This is a nice dance,” she said. “The slower pace is a little easier on a newbie like me, I think.” She looked up to Lelianna with a playful grin that quickly shifted into a confused tilt of her head. The woman seemed to be undergoing some sort of overflow error. The proximity of their faces didn’t faze Caroline; she broke contact just long enough to make sure she didn’t accidentally step on her toes, and then looked up, relieved that her pause wasn’t due to Caroline’s clumsiness. “Lelianna?” She said softly. “Is… something wrong?”

► Close. Really really really close. Holy smokes this was way closer than the hermit had realized!!!
Lelianna's brain had basically short-circuited in that moment. All gears had ground to a halt and her body had frozen on her. Think Lelianna! But alas, she couldn't. Though her mind could help but filter in details even while the hermit had locked up at this proximity. Much like Caroline she too was starting to notice details. And to quote an age old saying she'd somehow heard when she was young: it was almost like there was something there that wasn't there before. She noticed how Caroline's face was pretty much flawless in contrast to her own. The way the corner of her eye crinkled up when she was really smiling. Wow and her eye color was just so...
Wait what?
As if the revelation that she'd basically been staring dumbstruck at her friend wasn't enough, then Caroline had to just look at her with kindhearted concern. Gosh darn it Cadence! In a surge the red spread out from Lelianna's cheeks to overtake her whole complexion and reach the tips of her ears. Her flowers followed suit; the wildly changing colors suddenly got consumed by the color crimson.
Close. Waaaaaaaaay way way too close.
"I-I-I uh, ah, y-you s-see I-" All the words came out in a stammer. Honestly it was a miracle any sounds other than high pitched squeaks were leaving the redhead currently. In that instant more than anything she wished she could run like Caroline had. But it was kind of hard to do that when she was still basically in the other woman's embr- Oh god they were so close why did this happen.
"I-I'm fine!" It sounded more like a yelp than anything. Look away! Look away you dolt! Green eyes slid away from the sole purple one's gaze. "I just- I, um, I... not so... dancing... slow? Uhhhhh..." Was that even a coherent string of...whatever came out of her mouth?

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She double-checked to make sure she wasn’t stepping on any toes, or had her in any sort of accidental deathgrip. It appeared the tables had turned, with Caroline now supporting Lelianna’s frozen body. She waited patiently for an answer, trying her best to half-copy what other people were doing. She was taken aback when Lelianna shifted to red; her face, then her flowers, all that same bright crimson as before. Before she could comment, Lelianna yelped. Blink blink. “Um. I don’t think I heard you right?” She said. The diagnostics on her hearing came back all clear, so it wasn’t a problem on her end (she ran them again just to be sure). “Lelianna, you’re very red, and can’t… seem to speak? Are you feeling well? If you’re too tired, we can always go and sit down. You were dancing very energetically this whole time. I think you’re much better than you say you are, by the way. I am jealous of how you move. Skjorn must be an excellent teacher.” Hopefully the humor would lighten things up, because Lelianna looked practically dazed. Or troubled, maybe. If Lelianna wanted to take a seat, Caroline would guide her towards the nearest empty bench. If she wanted to keep going, that was fine, too, though the cyborg would still be concerned. She’d happily bear the inconsequential weight of the magi, though leading a dance was… difficult, to say the least. No matter what they did, Caroline was worrying too much to stay quiet. “Is something troubling you? You seem very distracted ever since I came back from the temple.”

► Red? She was red? No of course not. She couldn't be red. Ha. No. Definitely not. it wasn't like her cheeks were burning with the strength of a thousand suns right now. No, certainly not. Ha ha.
"I-I'm fine!" The hermit repeated. "I'm just...uh....yeah maybe that's it. Tired. R-Right." Yeah definitely that. She was definitely not painfully aware now of a repeating question in her head and the implications and realizations that came with it due to a certain enthusiastic air magi. No that was not the case at all. Nope. Not at all.
Though she did realize Caroline was trying to be funny to lighten the mood. And for a moment there it worked when she mentioned Skjorn being the dance teacher. Hey she'd spent a lot of time teaching that dang bear how to dance! The comment cause her to glance over for but a second, that typical protesting but almost playful glare being sent Caroline's way. "I'll have you know it's very hard to teach a bear how to dance!" It had taken her nearly a few weeks worth of time for her to succeed! Luckily Caroline seemed to pick it up a lot faster.
Oh yeah; she was teaching Caroline how to dance.
Her eyes skittered away once more, that tiny bit of defiance leaving her. Shoot. Why did she have to remember what Cadence said all of a sudden. Even though the girl was wrong it was viciously playing in her mind now. But she'd feel bad if she didn't actually teach Caroline how to dance. The other woman had actually gone onto the dance floor with her. That was a nice gesture. "I...I-I mean..." Before she could really finish whatever she was going to say, Caroline spoke up again. Distracted. "Oh, ah, well, um...n-nothing's troubling me I swear. I guess I'm just a bit...ah..." Aware of their intimate position now? Good grief she was a mess. "...I-I guess I'm just not u-used to dancing with another, ah, person to slow songs is all." She said, which was true enough. Skjorn was the only one she'd danced with for ages.
