all my life press the button to begin + 3 6 5 + short plot i'm sorry @ A@ + rain rain go away, come again another day | Lucya puffed out a breath of air, blowing her bangs out of her face. It was another quiet day; fine by her, and a good thing for potential customers. Lucya was uncomfortable, crabby, and in a general terrible mood. It was dreary, cold, and wet. Hardly a spring day, if you asked Luce. My ass. Spring isn't rain, Spring is flowers and warmth and sunshine.
Still, the small cafe had warm coffee and teas. Lucya had already gone over that morning, picking up an extra large coffee (screw ordering with their fancy words) with lots of espresso and extra extra whipped cream on top. The coffee was long gone now, and Lucya was toying with the idea of going over and grabbing another one. This is such a bad habit I'm gonna have to kick, she thought glumly, blowing her bangs out of her face again.
Lucya was allotting herself a daily limit of one! ONE! drink from the cafe. They weren't overly expensive drinks, but they weren't exactly cheap, either. Working with a smaller budget, Lucya couldn't really afford four or five a week either, but she made do. Groaning, she heaved herself up and began cleaning the windows. The rain had stopped for now, but it was still very overcast. A quick scan of the weather revealed that yet more rain was heading in the general direction. Lucya almost cried.
Leaving the window half-done (it was pristine anyway), Lucya made to start sweeping... and merely managed to lean over on the counter again, resting her head on her arms. She puffed her hair out of her face, again, and groaned. It was so boring today, moreso than usual. Even a book couldn't keep her occupied.
"Rainy days are the WORST!" Lucya finally proclaimed, standing suddenly and banging her palms on the counter top. Her ears, having shot up, drooped low. Grumbling under her breath, Lucya made for a back corner of the shop. There had to be something to do, right? Cleaning, maybe? Or... yet another re-organization...
"Rain, rain, go away," she sang low, beginning to comb through the books.

Blessed is Arithelia, Mother of Magi. Blessed is the Inner Flame, eternally bright and warm as the sun. Blessed is the Tranquil Sea, ever formless and shifting. Blessed is the Solid Earth, firm and unbroken. Blessed is the Mending Hand, gentle and generous. -Jason Reed
Jason cast a gaze skyward, blinking away the precipitation that collected near his eyes. It had been nearly ten years since he’d last been in any of Ethea’s cities, and his first time visiting the den of sin and decadence that was Dagos. He wasn’t fond of this city even before his self-imposed exile. His religious upbringing had never show much appreciation for the self-indulgence and corruption that ran rampant throughout the neon lighted city. If not for the fact that his duty to protect his fallen goddess had demanded his travels take him through the city, he would’ve gladly avoided the area altogether. Still, faith had its demands and he was nothing if not devoted to his faith; besides, the detour presented the opportunity to rest his laurels before the journey began anew as well as visit an old friend.
With Ari safely cloistered away with one of his brother priests, Jason was free to wander the streets to the address provided by his brother. He waded through the rain with his tail sheltered beneath his jacket and his hood raised to hid his face from prying eyes. The streets were quiet as he walked, avoiding the deeper puddles where he was able and humming a somber tune to match the driving rain. He pocketed his hands to worry at his prayer beads.
After a time, Jason arrived at the given address and found himself standing outside of a small bookshop. He respectfully pushed the glass door open and proceeded inside to be greeted by a familiar nursery song. The white streak of a smile stood stark against the dark mahogany of his skin.
“I see that rainy days still aren’t your favorite,” he said as he let down his hood and freed his tail. “It has been a long time, Luce.”

all my life press the button to begin + 3 0 0 + lucya, emo child + another short one, but heck it's 3000% emotional | Lucya hummed as she worked. The bell tinkled, and she grumbled, beginning to turn and getting ready to rip into the customer, before she froze.
On ear swiveled towards the door, and Lucya's breath caught in her throat. I know that voice. Tears began welling in her eyes, and she brought a hand up to her chest. She stood, stock still, closing her eyes and willing the tears away. Lucya hated rain, and she hated crying for any reason.
"I know that voice," she said aloud, glad that her voice didn't wobble or betray her, mostly. Her hands fell down to her sides, leaning on the book bin. A wide grin began to spread across her face, and she giggled once, then stifled it.
This couldn't be real.
She turned slowly, spotting him standing in the doorway. Still wearing that trademark jacket. Her smile grew wider, and she bit down on her lip, unsure of what to do. There were so many emotions, so many memories welling up from where she'd shoved them down. Lucya had though everyone dead; no one survived. They couldn't have. Not after that slaughter.
"I can't believe it's you," she breathed, starting forward only to stop and hesitate. Her instincts were screaming at her, that he wasn't real or some trick. But she knew better. He was real, not an illusion.
To hell with it, she thought, lightly bouncing once on her heels before springing forward. In her rush she knocked a book on the floor, but that didn't matter, not now. Lucya flung herself at the earth magi, wrapping her arms around him in a hug. "Jason," she said, voice choking back on a sob. | © seadra of gs |

The door had barely closed behind him before Jason found himself catching Luce as she wrapped in her embrace. He smiled as he wrapped his arms around the much smaller woman and gave her a gentle squeeze, his tail clicking excitedly to show his pleasure at the reunion. “I assure you that I am as real as you are.” Jason fell silent, gently stroking his companion’s hair.
It took him far longer than he would have expected, but the monk eventually pulled away from his friend enough to look her in those luminescent eyes of hers. “I’m glad to see you alive and well, my friend.” A pang of guilt flashed across his features. “I’m sorry that I disappeared for so long without saying anything. It was a… difficult time for me.” The memory of his slain wife and child came flooding back to him in that moment. The rage he’d felt—the sorrow—and the guilt that followed as he took bloody vengeance against those he felt to be responsible. Even now it stayed with him, though he no longer felt it as acutely as he once did. Jason breathed slowly, banishing the dark thought before they could intrude upon his happy reunion. The faltering smile he’d worn in place of his stony mask returned.
“Have you been well, Luce?” he asked, proud that his voice remained steady despite the emotion swirling in his chest. Seeing his friend again brought him more joy than he had ever dared hope for during the turmoil of the past eight years and it threatened to show further on his face with each passing moment.

all my life press the button to begin + 3 5 5 + better to know you're safe | Lucya snuggled close to Jason, relaxing as her stroked her hair. She loved that, and she knew that he knew. He still remembered the scared teenager of all those years ago. Lucya hummed low in her throat, ears flicking and brushing against Jason's hands.
After a while -- Lucya didn't want to let him go -- he pulled away, gently prying Lucya from his body. She didn't miss the guilt that flash over his face, and Lucya found herself frowning. She dropped her gaze, taking both of Jason's hands into her much smaller ones. Looking up again, she shook her head briefly. "Jason, it's okay," she soothed, squeezing his hands gently for a moment. "I'm not upset with you. I was worried after..." she trailed off, ears folding backwards as memories of that slaughter from eight years ago surfaced, but shook it off. "I'm just glad you're safe," Lucya said softly, ears perking back up.
Letting go of his hands, Lucya stepped backwards, grinning. "I've been well," she replied, her smile widening. It had been ages since she'd seen Jason -- many years, but Lucya hadn't forgotten him. Memories of travelling with Jason and a few others kept resurfacing. Training, sparring, finding Haven... With a small laugh, Lucya folded her hands behind her back. "And what about you, Jason? How have you been?"
It really had been too long. Lucya glanced toward the clock; perhaps she could take the rest of the day off. Maybe head over to the cafe... After Jason responded, Lucya's ears flicked back and forth, a mischievous grin sliding across her face. "Most of my duties are done for the day," she said, eyes sparking with humor. "And there's a lovely place across the street that doesn't mind magi at all. They actually aren't all that tolerant of bigotry... well, fighting. Anyway, they've got some great stuff. Good food, better drinks..." Lucya trailed off, rocking back on her heels as she released her hands. The rain was beginning to start again, although it was mostly drizzle at the moment.
"Better hurry if we do go," Lucya said, looking out of the window, ears flicking forward.

Jason’s features softened once again as he squeezed the tiny hands grasping his own marveling at how soft his friend’s hands remained despite what she’d experienced. It amazed him that such delicate hands could’ve ever been taught by his own to defend against assailants. “It was difficult to remain that way for long in those days, but well over a hundred years of experience has its place.” He smiled. While his form appeared to be that of a man at the most in his early thirties, Jason had lived for nearly a century and a half and it showed in his poise and in the heaviness of his gaze.
“I’ve been well enough, though much of my time has been spent in relative solitude,” he explained, revealing his granite prayer beads. “It gave me the time I required to heal and to learn from my mistakes. It was lonely without my friend near at hand.” Jason forced himself not to watch Lucya’s ears as they swiveled and flicked to and fro, choosing instead to focus on the younger magi’s face and the impish smile that was already tugging at her lips. It was no great feat to recognize that expression and it was all Jason could do just to stifle the grin that threatened to spread across his face at any moment. The task became increasingly difficult as he listened to the woman’s attempt to coerce him into joining her for a meal. Finally, he could contain himself any longer and a white line cracked his mask into a grin as he chuckled.
“I think that would be a good way to enjoy one another’s company again, my friend.” Jason turned his head in time to catch the steady drizzle beginning to regain its strength. He removed the leather jacket he wore over his hoodie and offered it to his companion. “This will help keep you dry for the most part.”

all my life press the button to begin + 3 8 0 + gettin' emotional again | Lucya rocked back on her heels again, still smiling. It was wonderful -- Jason was here, he was alive. And Lucya was so, so grateful. To whom, she wasn't sure; Lucya believed in the tangible something, but not the someone. She never prayed. But still, she thought a brief Thank you. to whomever would listen.
Blinking owlishly, Lucya eyed the prayer beads, revealed as if on cue with Lucya's unspoken prayer. Her ears swiveled forward first; curiosity had them flicking once, twice, rather like a cat's. "They're... pretty," Lucya managed, and she had been telling the truth. The prayer beads themselves were simple, but quite beautiful in their own right. The crystal welded to them only gave them a more beautiful air. For Lucya, she listened and learned about Gods and Goddesses, careful never to disrespect Them or the religion itself. As much as Lucya learned, though, she never believed herself, and had always made it clear that she was agnostic.
Changing the subject -- inviting Jason to lunch with her trademark grin -- she nearly giggled, instead covering her smile with one hand. Her eyes flicked up to his face, watching his own grin appear with a deep, rich chuckle.
Loping over, Lucya watched as he took off his jacket and offered it to her. She stretched out a hand, feeling the soft leather beneath her fingertips, but then stiffened. Removing her hand quickly, almost as if burned, she shook her head, ears folding back for a brief moment. "Jason, I... I would, and thank you, but..." Lucya gestured to his tail. "You hide it with your jacket, right? I couldn't take this.
"Besides, this is Dagos. It's not as bad as Felici, but it's still a city... A human city, and." Lucya stopped, biting on her lip. Her ears, while an obvious magi trait, could pass. They'd draw stares and sneers and maybe even a comment or two, but Lucya was -- for the most part -- fine.
Jason's tail, however, was a different matter. It was armored and powerful, and more importantly dangerous. Shaking her head again, Lucya continued speaking. "I'd love to accept. I would, but I can't deprive you of your jacket. I wouldn't do that to you. The cafe's fine, once we get inside. But on the streets? I couldn't."

Jason blinked once before casting a glance down to his waist where his tail was still wrapped about his waist. He’d nearly forgotten about the rebellious limb and it twitched tighter as if to remind him of its presence. Hints of a frown tugged his lips downward. Obviously, his time spent away from the worries of civilized human culture had been long enough to forget the dangers to his kind. He wasn’t overly concerned with his own safety; danger was no stranger to him and he was more than capable of defending himself. Still… His gaze returned to Lucya. She was still young and he couldn’t bear the thought of his inattentiveness to cause her harm; she had suffered enough as it stood. More than that, he could scarcely afford to draw attention to himself while his mother remained under his protection. Careless. “It seems even the wisest are sometimes blind to the simplest of things,” he mused. “You are right, my friend. Not all humans are as… tolerant of what they fear.” And that was failing to give justice to the ominous cloud hanging over the whole of their race. At any moment, an ignorant human might’ve come to the decision to assault an innocent magi or a bloodthirsty Hunter could slay one his kind. His own race wasn’t entirely free of guilt either. Jason closed his eyes and breathed deeply to clear away the darkening thoughts. Concentrating on the ill of the world would only serve to drive him to madness and he had no intention of serving the Mad God. His eyes opened again a short time later as he put his jacket back on. “The least I can do is protect you from the rain,” he said, smiling slightly. “Though we should leave before the rain worsens.” Jason waited for Lucya to finish whatever tasks remained to be done, then turned to exit into the rainstorm, which was still gaining strength. He stood as close to Lucya as was appropriate while she locked the door if she needed to. Then, he drew her close to his side while they walked, using his sheer bulk to as a shield against the downpour.
