History won't So they were running low on food... Again.
Lexie had to sigh a little as she pushed her cart through the grocery store. Maybe it would be wise for the Caim family (Mogi included) to cut back on eating so much. Daniel alone could put away so much! Then again, Lexie wasn't much better. With how much she exercised the redhead could put away her own fair share of food. Hey, she burned a lot of calories alright? Besides, even though she told herself that they should cut back...she was a cook at heart. One look at all the ingredients just lying right before her and that sense of "maybe she should cut back" flew out the window.
It was vicious cycle, really.
Which would explain how-- even though she'd started her grocery hunt with that idea in mind-- her cart was already nearly full by the time she'd actually gotten to the meat section of the store. This was always what happened. She got too many ideas in her head about making some different dish or experimenting at home and before she knew it-- Oh wow that cut of prime rib looked really good.
Lexie halted before the glass case displaying all the various cuts she could get. Immediately different ideas for various meals started flashing through her head. The redhead had to bite her lip. One spared glance at her cart told her it was nearly full and she hadn't even gotten everything on the simple list she'd walked in with. It was rather dangerous to send Lexie to the grocery store. Or, rather, expensive.
After only a second or two of further hesitation, Lexie ended up getting a hefty cut of it and adding it to her swiftly filling cart with all her other (extra) purchases. After that she moved on. Maybe she should actually start focusing on getting what was on her list? As Lexie pulled it out she indeed say that there were a few things on the list she hadn't crossed out yet. With a flick of green eyes she could see the reason for her distraction right in her cart.
Jeez she had to get better at staying on task in here.
Shifting her eyes from the paper in hand to the different aisle markers (and occasionally at the different things she passed, try as hard as she might not to), she eventually found the right one: spices. Wait, hadn't she actually been in this aisle earlier? One glance back in her cart and-- yes she'd been in this aisle already. Gods, she'd been so distracted she hadn't even noted to get something she'd come there for in the same aisle she was browsing!? Even though it was just to her own knowledge, Lexie found her cheeks burning slightly. Her father would laugh at her if he knew. Pushing her cart further into the aisle, unfortunately hers caught on the edge of someone else's. "Oh! Oh I'm so sorry." The redhead apologized with a little grimace, head snapping up from staring at her unfinished list to find those darn spices she'd apparently missed the first go through.

She had seen him use the card for food. Thus being hungry counted as an emergency…
Right?
Maia didn’t want any of this crappy Ethean food anyway. What she really wanted was some rice. Not the spicy rice, the good rice. The sticky rice. And good gods, did none of these stores have nori? It was like trying to find a mouse in a lavender field. Extremely hard to say the least. She had finished putting away the meager amount of things that she had owned and decided to venture out into Ethea. She was carrying the holo-watch on her, and had programmed it to take her to a grocery store. At least that was what she had thought at first.
Instead it had taken her to two different restaurants and none of them had any fresh fish or rice.
Was it really too much to ask for?
Maia had finally had her way to the grocery store and was slowing walking up and down the isles looking for rice. The Ethean language was hard to understand and the Ikigian girl didn’t really want to put the effort in to properly understand it. What she wanted was food, and for her glorious Ikigian rice, she would find what she needed.
Besides, it shouldn’t cost that much, right?
The girl adjusted her hair out of her face from under the cap she was wearing. She also was wearing one of her “father’s” old hoodies. She didn’t have a lot of clothes, and when she had run out, he had given her the ratty one of his. It was a bit too big, but it was comfortable. Though there was a smell she couldn’t quite place. She could have sworn it smelled familiar. Tapping on the holo-watch Maia turned down one of the isles. Hopefully this one would have rice in it.
She had picked up one of the little baskets at the front of the store when she had come in. At least that was the same as in Ikigai. After multiple people bumping into her she couldn’t help it but let out a “くそ” in Ikigian. She doubted anyone would be able to understand her, though she got a few looks from a man in a suit. Putting a finger on her bottom of her eye and pulled it down and stuck out her tongue. Was it childish? Maybe. Did she care? No. She just wanted her rice and to get out of this infernal country. The girl had picked up a flyer when she had come in, taking out her sharpie and circling the rice, and the spice that she needed. Hopefully it would help in the future of getting what she wanted. Luckily they seemed to be on some sort of sale? Numbers were the same at least. She knew that much.
Hopefully this would happen soon enough.
Of course that wouldn’t be the case. Maia had just found the rice, which was for some odd reason right by the spices, which she really didn’t understand. She ultimately was perusing the spices when something bumped into her handheld basket. It bumped into her with such force that she stumbled a bit and lost her balance. Annnd there went her rice, up, into the air, which comically landed in the offender’s cart. “Nimiral!” of course this would have to happen, it was just her luck.
“Aiâ!” The Ikigian girl would pull her knees up to her chest, as she seemed to have landed on her ankle. It wasn’t a good scenario at all. Glaring up at the seemingly redheaded girl Maia sneered. Of course this happened. Some preppy shopping girl would have to harm her on her first time out in an Ethean grocery store.
“Damnit…” The Ikigian girl would rise to her feet tentatively testing her ankle and find it nothing but sprained. This would lead the girl to glare at the other. “Watch out next time.” The Ethean words would come out jolted and stiff. Her tongue was not used to the harsh sounds that this language required. “Not hurt, but…” Damn, what was the word? “Ouch.” Maia would point to her ankle before shaking her head and pointing at the rice in the cart. “Mine.” Hopefully this girl would understand. She didn’t need any more annoyances today. |

History won't Had Alex been transported into a cartoon?
Apparently she had been going really fast because when she bumped into the girl it looked like she'd been rammed. Something flew from her hands and landed with a thud into Alex's cart. Some sharp words that Alex didn't recognize flew from the other girl's mouth. However she had a pretty strong feeling that whatever she'd said wasn't exactly sweet. She'd just been hit by a cart. Alex imagined it was likely a swear.
Immediate guilt and worry flooded Alex's features as she put her list down and took a step towards the girl. "I am so sorry!" Sincerely she was. And when she saw the tentative way the girl tested her ankle, the redhead felt even worse. Gods she really should have been paying more attention to where she was going. Regret decided to join into the mingle of emotions playing across her face as she watched the girl. She didn't touch Maia but watched her carefully as she stood. Even though the words directed at her came with a glare and a harsh tone, the redhead wasn't offended. Mainly because this was her fault. She simply looked guiltier.
"I'm sorry." Truly she was. "This was my fault; I wasn't paying well enough attention." Fortunately Maia wasn't particularly hurt. It just stung. That allowed the redhead to breath a little with relief. Not much, but at least things hadn't been worse. When Maia pointed towards the cart, green eyes glanced back curiously. Oh right! Something had flown into it when Alex had bumped into the girl. It didn't take long at all for Alex to recognize what wasn't hers. She pulled the rice out and handed it back. "Here you go. Again, I'm sorry I bumped into you. Are you sure your ankle is alright?" Best to make sure just in case.

[attr="class","maput"]learning to translate these emotions [attr="class","mapnote"] [attr="class","maptext"]WORDS: 330 [attr="class","maptext"]NOTES: Why such a hurry? | [attr="class","mapscroll"] This really wasn’t how Maia had wanted to spend her day. Like at all.
Getting run into by a person who seemed to not even care? Nope, not how her day had been planned. The whole scenario wasn’t something the Ikigian girl had ever imagined would happen to her. She was normally pretty easy going in the grocery store, avoiding people was her style. However when people ran into her she couldn’t control it. It was all sort of annoying to say the least. Not to mention a bruise on her pride, and that was what really mattered right? Maia’s pride? Hence the scowl on her face and the scene that unfolded.
Maia blinked as her attacker looked… like she was the one hurt? That was odd. She didn’t understand why the person was… worried? It was quite odd to say the least. Maia was more used to people being general assholes and not giving two shits about how their actions affected others. Or at least that was the normal in her everyday life. Did… Did this girl just apologize? Who was this girl and why was she so nice? A scowl formed on Maia’s face, a general indication of her frustration. It wasn’t in her experience for others to be nice to her, let alone apologize. “Sorry?”
She couldn’t comprehend the word, especially used in this circumstance. “Yes,” was the word out of her mouth. At least the woman realized it was her fault. As she stood Maia gingerly put pressure on her ankle. She winced at the pain but kept going. It wasn’t that much pain she was in. As Maia pointed to the rice she was pleasantly surprised that the teenager seemed to be willing to go with her demands. “Ok.” Maia would nod, her ankle was fine. To demonstrate she walked around on it a little. “Why such hurry?” Her curiosity was peaked. Why was this woman in such a hurry that she knocked her over?

History won't At first the other girl looked confused as Alex went on, apologizing for basically launching the girl with more force than Alex thought possible. Then she started scowling again which only made Alex feel bad all over again. "Yes. I really didn't mean to hit you a-and I...Really didn't know I was going at that speed." I mean she'd almost pushed the girl straight into the shelves from that insane display upon impact. maybe the redhead really was stronger than she thought. Which, if we were being honest here, shouldn't be too much of a surprise. With her constant exercising (the damn junkie), the amazon was pretty much a lean tank with equal amounts power.
So yes, yes it was her fault and Alex fully accepted that. A sympathetic wince flashed across her face when Maia first tested her foot. oh yeah, she knew about rolled and twisted ankles. Came with the territory of running so much, though she was a lot better experienced now than when starting out. Though the girl seemed to keep going. Thank the gods it didn't appear to be broken. Not only would that make Alex feel even more guilty, but the other girl would definitely need to get to the hospital.
Without a moment of hesitation (once she figured out what didn't belong) Alex returned what was rightfully Maia's. Thankfully she had no rice in her cart considering they had enough at home. Once that was done, Alex watched her test the ankle some more. Almost as if to prove it was really okay. Which, truthfully, let the redhead breath with relief. At least the damage wasn't too bad!
The question earned a bit of a blush. Yes, why was she in such a hurry she cart-checked this girl? A pair of green eyes turned back to her cart for a second. Her very much packed cart. "Well...I was trying to find the remaining items on my list. I realized I'd gotten a bit...carried away," Which was an understatement honestly, "And been in here for a while without even getting everything I was supposed to first." Saying it out loud made her feel even more ridiculous that she'd (apparently) slammed a cart into someone in the first place. She kept her eyes averted a little out of embarrassment. "That's not really any excuse to have run into you so hard though."

It's an art. | [attr="class","mapscroll"] Maia would nod, accepting the girl’s apology. Because Maia could sense the other girl was being sincere, she actually gave a shit, she was more likely to be nice. Well at least as nice as Maia could be. She wasn’t very nice to begin with so from a grimace her face turned into a small scowl. That was as close as a smile that Maia is capable of really. Besides, she wasn’t that happy. “It okay. You not mean to.” There. That should give the girl some sort of reassurance. Easy words in Ethean to say. They might have made the sentence a bit choppier but she got her point across, or at least she tried.
As Maia tested her foot, the wince was brief. It noted her pain and discomfort but it wasn’t anything severe. More of an annoyance really. Yes, it would make carrying groceries home a little harder, but it wouldn’t be that bad, not really considering. She hadn’t planned on buy all that much anyway. Instead she would be more focused on making the most of whatever ingredients she could find here at this store. Maia was finding there weren’t that many Ikigian imports here in Ethea, which was also annoying.
Maia nodded as she was returned the rice, grateful that it didn’t look damaged. She didn’t want to buy a damaged item. That would just be a waste of money and Maia didn’t waste money. She was quite frugal. Hence the coupons that she was carrying around. She was making sure they would be put to use.
Maia listened intently trying to translate the girl’s sentences as best as she could. There must have been a reason she was going so fast as to have knocked her down. “List?” Came the question. Maia wasn’t that familiar with making a list here in Ethea, she didn’t know where anything was. All of the stores were laid out differently than they were in Ikigai. It was the little things like that that bothered the girl. “Ah, lost track time.” It seemed the girl had such a heaping amount of food that they were rich. Her eyes scanned over the food and spotted a particular meat she had been looking for. As her eyes lit up she turned again to face this red headed girl. “What ingredients? I help.”
Besides, if Maia helped this stranger, this stranger might just help her. “Where find?” The grump would point to the meat that was in the red head’s cart. Hopefully she would understand. |

History won't She was forgiven, at least a little. That much was good at least. And the scowl had gone down somewhat. Also a good thing, right? The pain didn't seem too bad either. All in all, considering what had occurred, the encounter had turned out much better than what it could have been.
The more the girl spoke, the more Alex caught on that this other girl was definitely not from Ethea. The choppy way she spoke reminded Alex of her initial stages learning how to speak the language of her lovely telenovelas. However she didn't treat Maia like an idiot and start shortening her words to baby speech. From the looks of it she was getting along just fine. Nodding her head, Alex sort of showed Maia the bit of paper she held in her hand. Some parts were crossed out, but a decent amount still remained. "I really enjoy cooking so it's very easy for me to get distracted in here." The redhead confessed with a somewhat sheepish look to her face.
That soon morphed to surprise when Maia offered to help her look for the rest of her groceries. Alex blinked. this was...A rather unexpected turn of events. Though she noticed the girl's eyes lit up. Somehow the thought of assisting the redhead really seemed to appeal to her? The moment Maia pointed and asked, however, where to find something in her cart Alex understood. A "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" sort of deal huh? Well considering Alex still felt guilty for ramming the poor girl only a minute or two ago, it was the least she could do.
Offering Maia a warm and friendly smile, Alex nodded. "if you really want to, I'd be glad for the company. And I could help you find everything on your list as well." Secretly she suspected that was what the girl was after in the first place anyways. Alex was kind but she wasn't an idiot. "I can show you where that meat is too, if you'll let me grab something from this aisle really quickly." If Maia said yes Alex would hurry off with list in hand. In quick time she'd find exactly what she was looking for (seriously how had she missed it in her first time around?) before returning to her cart and putting the spice in. Then she'd smile again at Maia. "Alright, let's go find you that meat now."

[attr="class","maput"]learning to translate these emotions [attr="class","mapnote"] [attr="class","maptext"]WORDS: 608 [attr="class","maptext"]NOTES: +.5 Friendship points | [attr="class","mapscroll"] The other girl seemed to get the message, which was a good thing. Maia didn’t feel like over explaining herself and she didn’t feel like she should have to in the first place. The point went across and the other girl seemed to notice what Maia was trying to say.
If the red head was not aware that Maia was not from Ethea, then she was quite dense. She did appreciate that the woman didn’t do that infuriated thing that these foreigners did with baby talk. It really was annoying to the teen. Did they think she was stupid? Or just inferior? Either way the teenager hated it when people talked down to her. As Maia looked at the list that redhead showed her she nodded and turned to start fishing for the flyer. She had recognized one of the names, asiago cheese was it? She pulled out the flyer and showed the woman the coupon for it offering as a sign of peace. “Cheese sale.”
The store was in fact having a cheese sale and if Maia could get the price down of that woman’s huge cart of food? Then it was all the better. Maia appreciated coupons, as they helped her be frugal. At the mention of cooking Maia would nod. “Cook house meals too.” Maybe they had something in common? Maia would open the pouch she carried with the coupons she had. “Lots coupons, you need?” Maia didn’t need the ones that were in this envelope. In fact she had been planning on giving them to the next old granny she saw. The redhead wasn’t an old granny but from the amount of food she was buying she could have been. Apparently this was the next best thing.
Maia offered a sly smirk as the redhead nodded when she pointed to the meat in the cart. Good. It seemed she wasn’t stupid. It was so easy to manipulate stupid people. Instead Maia was dealt with someone that seemed to understand her way of the world. Favors for favors. Plus this would give the woman a chance to pay off the debt that she owed to Maia. Once done, it would be simple, as they would be on even playing ground again, and the girl had no intention of ever interacting with this overly cheery girl again. The thought brought a small sinister smile to her face.
Considering the proposition that was set before her Maia slowly nodded. Good. She could use the redhead, who seemed to know where everything was. The grumpy teenager was still getting used to her bearings in this country and she didn’t know where things were and to be honest that frustrated her. “Help each other.” There, she had established a sense of mutual respect, even if it wasn’t quite genuine it was as good as the redhead was going to get. At the topic of finding something from this aisle Maia would nod and fetch her own spice that she was missing. Good, it seemed that the store had it in stock. That was a small blessing in the least. “Meat, yes.”
If Maia was going to continue to deign to associate with the redheaded strongwoman she should probably introduce herself. Going into the formal bow of her country Maia would show respect to the redhead. Her hands would be clasped in the front of her, she would bend at the waist, and her legs would be together in the traditional formal posture. She would slowly rise, and lock eyes with the redhead and point to herself. “Maia Nomi.” That would have to suffice as an introduction for the teenager. |

History won't Wait what was she-- A coupon was abruptly offered to her. Alex blinked again. This girl was just full of surprises, wasn't she? One moment Alex was pretty sure she was going to bite her head off. Thank heavens she didn't speak another form of native Ethean, else it could have been rather heated. Now she was offering a fee coupon? Though Alex was surprised, she gratefully accepted it with another smile. "Oh! Thank you very much." Coupons would definitely help her. luckily her and her father were pretty well off so they could afford the ungodly amount of food.
Gods knew they ate their fair share of food.
From the sounds of it Alex was in the presence of a fellow cook. Which definitely made her happy. Though, once again, Maia managed to surprise her. not only with the sheer amount of coupons the girl had at her disposal, but the fact she was offering them to Alex to use. "Oh! Well, I wouldn't want to take them if you're going to use them yourself." Alex wasn't quite sure what Maia needed to buy just yet after all. But if the girl really insisted Alex would accept them. Refusing at that point would simply be rude.
Besides, it might not hurt to cut back on expenses.
Yes, Alex was not stupid. No way was she claiming to be the most intelligent person out there, but she wasn't an idiot. And she did not miss the slyness to her smirk or the sinister tint to her smile. Which may have made her the faintest bit concerned. However, she wasn't going to dwell on the implications. They were going to help each other, as Maia said. Though Alex strongly suspected she might be the most help in this duo. Which was fine; she could make it up to the girl this way after all. "That we will." Alex agreed before going about to retrieve what she needed from the aisle. Upon returning, for a third time, the redheaded amazon was surprised.
The other girl was bowing to her. It must have been a custom from wherever she came from, yet it just seemed to formal. Alex felt herself staring for a second, but quickly quit it. Somehow she had a feeling that offering a hand for the girl to shake wasn't going to go well. It was simply a hunch. Instead Alex nodded her head respectfully and kindly to Maia in return, offering her a light smile. "I"m Alexandra Caim, but please call me Alex." it only felt right to include her last name since Maia had to. "It's nice to meet you, though I'm sorry it started out so poorly." Yeah that definitely wasn't a great first impression.
However they had shopping to do!
Putting the spice into her cart, Alex whipped a pen out of her pocket and scratched out that item from her list. "Ok. We can go and get your meat first." With that offer Alex would move her cart out of the aisle and head towards the meat section. She figured Maia would follow. "What else do you need to get? We could plan out how to get through the store that way, so it takes less time."

She had pulled out the right coupon right? That wasn’t a problem right? She sighed and appeared to be looking at it again. Damn Ethean language. It always seemed to muck everything up. Upon observing the coupon again. Maia was quite surprised! She had actually chosen the right one? Hrmm. She wondered where the tall lady’s hesitation lied then. Either way, the red head accepted the coupon and Maia nodded. Good. It seemed like the red head could use it. “I’m cheap.” were the words said with a smirk.
Maia was nothing if not frugal. Her grandfather could attest to that.
Maia would nod at the redhead. She knew that cooking could get expensive, even more so in her case given she was used to cooking Ikigian food, rather than Ethean food. She didn’t understand why this country used so much bread and pasta. It wasn’t the same thing, and greatly confused her. Who needed all of those calories? At the confusion Maia pulled out another envelope specifically for the coupons she needed. “These mine.” With a sneer Maia would nod as the redhead would take the other coupons. “You use these.”
It really was just taking them off her hands. Good.
Maia didn’t think the other girl was stupid, but she definitely was Ethean. In general Maia thought that Ethean’s were naturally more stupid than Ikigians. Especially given how she was raised, everyone else in her family was easily at the genius level, where Maia herself was merely average. So for Maia to think the girl wasn’t stupid, really was an achievement. She may be adept at micromanaging others and manipulating them, but she also could appreciate when people just naturally did what she wanted. Smirking she nodded towards the other girl, “Yes.”
Maia would raise her torso with a formal elegance that would echo her politeness and composure in the situation. The Ikigian knew that manners mattered when introductions happened, so she was putting effort into this one. For some reason the Ethean looked perturbed and it confused her. Why? Was she not formal enough? Did she not follow proper etiquette when being introduced? She had done exactly has her mother and grandfather had taught her. Surely that was enough for the tall redhead that stood before her looking baffled. “Alexandra… Alex.” The first name rolled off Maia’s tongue. The Ethean language was full of rolling sounds that the Ikigian didn’t quite understand. The shortened version of the name was much easier to pronounce and as a sign of her agreeing of the terms to call the red head by the shortened version of the name Maia echoed the name again, “Alex.”
Oh! So she was apologizing again. Guilt was an effective tool to use on this one. Smirking Maia would shrug. “It fine, no harm.” There, nice, simple easy words, which would then be accompanied by a wince as she accidently rolled her ankle while they started to walk. “Nice… meet… you…” were the drawn out words from the hurt she was experiencing.
She wasn’t exaggerating at alllll….. Right?
Maia would nod towards Alex, as she watched her scratch the item off her list. “Salmon, Nori, rice cooker.” Would they actually find a rice cooker in this Ethean store? She wasn’t sure. But she did know that it was essential if she wanted to make onigiri correctly. “Also cheese for octopus.” Hopefully this stuff wouldn’t be too hard to find.
“Also…” Maia would look around before leaning a little closer and whispering. Who knew if her dad had had her followed? “Strawberry Mochi.” |

History won't At this point it was becoming harder to tell if the girl was being generous or...something else. Either way Alex got free coupons so that was certainly a plus. Besides, it looked like Maia had plenty of her own coupons to use for whatever food she’d want. That was enough evidence to chase away any guilt Alex might have had taking the coupons.
Oh heavens no; if Maia was any more formal Alex would be embarrassed. Fortunately Maia was testing out Alex’s name instead of looking confused by Alex’s reaction. By the repeat of her shortened name, the redhead figured that was Maia’s way of agreeing. Truthfully just saying “Alex” was probably easier for the other girl. Her full name was a mouthful, even to the one who possessed it. Happy, Alex nodded her head.
But that was soon gone when Maia winced again. Was she overdoing it? Okay maybe a little. Even Alex should be able to see that. Yet Maia was fortunate that she’d found an Ethean that actually gave a shit should she injure another. Despite all her training the redhead wasn’t exactly too fond to have to hurt someone else. Unless they deserved it of course. Then by all means, let them have it. However this was not someone (as far as Alex knew) that deserved her injury. So yes, Maia succeeded in drawing out another concerned and slightly guilty look from the redhead.
So: Salmon, nori, rice cooker, and cheese. That shouldn’t be too hard to find at all. In fact Alex might also end up getting some salmon now that she thought about it. Though there was a final item to this list. A…apparently secret item as Maia leaned in and whispered it. Strawberry mochi? Now that might be a little harder, mainly because Alex hadn’t heard of the stuff. But there were employees to ask should they need it! Nodding her head, Alex looked at the remaining items on her list. “Okay then…I think the best route then would get getting the salmon first, then the cheese, then the rice cooker, and then finding where the nori and mochi would be.” The redhead surmised. She glanced over to Maia and offered her a little smile. “Sound good?”
If the brunette gave any gesture or word of agreement to the plan, the redhead would start off towards that section. She had her own list of food to go through; a few of said items located close to where the fish and dairy products would be anyways. She had to get cheese herself too. Once they reached where the salmon was, Alex pointed it out to the other girl. “The salmon would be over there. I’m going to get a few things around here too and then we can move onto the cheeses.” Plus she could probably grab some salmon when she met up with the girl again before they moved on. Honestly it was kind of nice to have company for shopping.

If Alex were ever to get to know Maia, she would learn that the girl was often a mix of generous and sly. She was a complex-ish teenager and had an arsenal full of conflicting emotions that bottled up and were expressed in her actions. The teen was genuinely happy to get rid of the coupons, and it also served a purpose for her. If people or actions served a purpose, that was a good enough reason for her to take these actions.
It seemed that the name business also had the other girl in agreement. Good. It was easier for her that way. If Alex wanted her to use her full name it most likely would have led to stuttering and a storm off in embarrassment of not being able to pronounce it correctly. No one wanted a stormier than normal Maia. She was already perceived as a grump. It was better to not even entertain the idea that she could become grumpier.
Maia might have been someone who was a tinsey bit prone to drama, but she wasn’t going to exactly showcase this. The guilty look that ran across the other teenager’s face was more than satisfactory for the grumpy teenager. The Ikigaian teen was maybe just a tiny bit sadistic. She took pleasure from other’s suffering but generally it was limited too small moments like this. For the first time Alex would see a genuine smile from the girl.
Maia knew that her list wasn’t that large, but it was large enough for her. Especially when the foreigner wasn’t good enough at deciphering the language of the Ethean population. She wasn’t especially good at the language so she relished when things were easy for her. Yes, her mocha must be kept secret. After all, she didn’t want her lameo of a supposed father getting ahold of any of it. It was all for her. She wasn’t the best at making sweets and was much more favorable in the art of savory items in cooking.
Kimichi was her jam. It was super spicy and it was so good at cleaning out her senses. Combine that with some sticky rice? It was the perfect lunch. Maia would nod as Alex seemed to formulate a plan. “Yes, you lead.” Sheepishly she looked towards the redheaded teen. “Please.” She might have been a literal impersonation of a grump, but she still had her manners.
Once she was assured that the teen knew where she was going Maia would following along behind the redhead. It was almost evident tat she didn’t really understand where she was going in the store, and she was blindly following the girl. A sign of trust almost? Almost. When Alex pointed out the salmon Maia nodded and went to peruse the selection. There wasn’t much but she found a somewhat satisfactory cut and placed it in her basket. Hopefully It would last until she got home.
Maia would keep perusing the fish section as she waited for Alex, taking note of the prices on the holopad that her father had handed her. She was frugal, to say the least. Finding some crab, she placed it into her basket It wasn’t on her list, but it would do. When Alex came back she would motion to her hand basket. “Salmon, and Crab. Find your item?” The inquiry would be met with a head tilt and a motion towards the next isle. “Cheese next?”
If Alex gave an affirmative answer Maia would follow along behind her.

History won't Just a tiny bit sadistic. Riiiiiiiiiiight.
At least she had manners though. She even looked a little sheepish after her inital near-command of the redhead. Once again, fortunately she'd stumbled on one of the few (perhaps in Maia's eyes) Felicians that wasn't a complete and utter asshole. Unless Maia had started swearing at her in the more native Dagos tongue. Then things might have been entirely different. As it was though, Maia got the typical nice Alex. Not the fast-talking sarcastically insulting one.
While Maia perused the salmon, Alex was hard at work searching for the things on her list. And also looking at what the coupons might allow her to also get. Hey she'd be lying if she said she wasn't going to take advantage of those. Why not? Maia didn't seem to mind so it was best not to waste a gift. After she'd gotten her specific items (and extra ones) she rejoined Maia at the salmon and got one for herself.
"Cheese next." The redhead said in confirmation as she rechecked her own list for things she'd need near that isle. Together them moved on towards the section, but then a certain detail came to Alex's realization. "Oh! Do you know what kind of cheese you're looking for?" The young woman asked with a glance back at Maia. There were plenty of cheeses to choose from. Alex would know because she'd gone through (and experimented with) enough of them in her recipes. "They've got quite a few different kinds her. But if you know which one you want then I'll quickly go get what I need before we move on." She figured it was only polite to offer.
If Maia didn't need help looking through the different cheeses ad reading them, then Alex would head off to find her own items (including a cheese or two) before returning to the other girl. However if the girl did request or her help, Alex would stay behind to assist her first before going about her own shopping business to cross items off her list.

Could you really blame her?
Of course, she had manners. Maia was just… blunt. Yes, that was the word. She wanted what she wanted and she wasn’t going to go anywhere without getting it. If this redhead could help her, Maia was fully willing to take advantage of that kindness. Besides, she was doing it politely. That counted for something, right? It wasn’t as if she was swearing at the girl. She could have, she really quite easily could have. Right now she was refraining from such speak though.
Maia took her time deciding over which slab of salmon she should get. The quality of the meat really did matter, as it would be something that would affect the taste and the overall smell fo the salmon when cooked as well. She was fond of the fish for its Smokey smell and was more than willing to experiment with sides to go with it. Cucumber Dill Sauce was something that she had recently found and made. It really was delicious with salmon, and she intended to make it for this batch as well. Hence the cucumber and other ingredients in her shopping basket.
Maia would nod at the confirmation and follow the native girl to the isle which held the cheeses. It was all a little confusing, there were so many. Maia was used to just having one or two to choose from and she didn’t really know what she was looking for. Turning to the girl as she spoke Maia tilted her head. “What?” She didn’t really understand what she was being asked at the moment. “Cheese.” She was looking for cheese. That much was apparent. “Octopus cheese.” She would make a motion with her hand to replicate a small circular stick, moving her hand up and down that most Etheans would probably consider an obscene gesture. Not that she was aware of that. It probably looked really odd coming from her, but she wasn’t sure the correct name. “Cheese with tendrils,” would be the confused reply.
Maia would raise her hands in an 'I don’t know what you are saying, or what this is called' sort of manner before gazing over the cheeses, there were so many types. She would watch as the redhead would turn and look at the cheese for herself a small scowl on her face. It kind of sucked that she couldn’t communicate properly.

History won't Octopus cheese. To be completely frank, Alex had no idea what the other girl was talking about at first. She figured there was actually a cheese used with octopus. Maybe it was a cultural thing? However as Maia went on, she thought that wasn't the case. Especially with the gesture. Which initially caught Alex off guard, but started to jog her memory. She was a chef after all, and if she couldn't identify something as simple as string cheese, then she'd feel inadequate.
"Oh! String cheese!" The redhead said with a dawn of realization. it only took her a little while, leaving her cart by Maia, before she returned with said item. In the pack with a number of different cheese sticks. Hopefully this was what Maia meant. "Did you mean these? They're right over there." And she pointed them out to the other girl further down the dairy section. If she got it right she'd smile and then head off to get what she needed. If not she'd continue to help as much as she could looking for "octopus cheese."
Eventually though they'd need to move on to their next items. Alex got what she needed and then it was on to get the rice cooker. That took a bit of a walk, though it was easy enough to spot. Alex pointed it out for the other girl. "There's the cooker. I'll need to ask someone where the nori and mochi are." The redhead informed her. If Maia needed help loading the rice cooker in, the amazon would gladly lend a hand. Otherwise she was off to find and question one of the workers in the store, eventually coming back knowing where the last two items would be.
"Alright! I know where your last two items would be. Thankfully they're not to far from each other apparently. We could just grab them and go." Alex explained kindly.
