Never be afraid even when you’re cornered

Maia is a sweet girl, really. That factor of her personality though is hidden by what she puts forth outwardly. As an Ikiagian living in Ethea, the first thing to note that Maia is frustrated normally. It seems that not many here understand her language, and she is not adept at this language either. Hence the language barrier that seems to endlessly frustrate the girl. Maia has a tendency to use formal speech in her dialect. It was how she was raised, and you will not see her use slang, though she wouldn't be able to understand Ethean slang anyway.

The second thing to note is that Maia will hide her emotions. This was first used as a coping mechanism for when she was bullied in school, but now it has been adapted into her everyday life. The girl is afraid of showing her emotions and is afraid that she will get hurt if she does. This is largely due to the fact that she lost her mom when she was little. Since then she has retreated into herself and her shell, only reserving her overwhelming sense of anger when she feels it is safe (I.E. when she is alone.). If someone were to ever find themselves in good graces with the Ikigain girl, she would protect them as much as she could and would be extremely devoted.

Maia is also respectful, to an extent. She will be the first to offer to carry an elderly person's bags home from the grocery store. She thinks elderly people have the most experience in life, thus it would be wise to listen to them. The "to an extent" comes in if people mistreat her. She doesn't like to be told what to do, and if she is, she will often try to go around that. If someone were to yell at her she would just shut her emotions down and stare at them blankly.

It should be mentioned that this child is stubborn, so much so that she can be considered obstinate. Once she gets an idea in her head, she will follow through, even if that means that it might harm others emotionally. This would be considered the case if someone were to ask if she thought that a dress made someone look fat, she would say yes, it did, and they should burn the dress. Maia technically did what was asked of her, but she doesn't know how to sugarcoat things.

Maia is... how do I put this... blunt. She doesn't really understand the idea that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, and will be truthful when asked questions. It should also be noted that she doesn't bother hiding the fact she is different. In fact, if she stands out, it means that she is keeping others away, which is important to the girl. The girl prefers not to speak actually, because she doesn't understand when she gets asked something, answers, and then gets freaked out on. Social cues are lost on her, except for when she is being formal. This is also due to not having a very good understanding of the Ethean language.

A very important part of Maia's personality is her anger issues. Maia is very quick to anger, and will not take the high road. Chances are she has already tried the high road and you are still berating her. Maia... explodes with this fury that lives inside her if you do manage to get her angry. She knows she lashes out, and is not above physically harming someone. She loses sight of the overall picture and will focus on the one thing that made her mad. This of course, makes her more mad, which only escalates the situation. Often Maia will "red out" and not know the exactly what happens when she gets into a fight, and will have a hard time remembering. Maia also has a pretty good ability at finding weak spots.

However, if blood is involved? That's a completely different story. Blood is a deciding factor in the girl. She will legitimately snap out of her rage to stare at it. Maia has a strange fascination with blood, all blood, that she just can't seem to get rid of. The girl finds herself drawn to it, and the possibilities for it. It is... alluring, calling to her. Blood is a friend to Maia. This is evidenced by the scars on her thighs. She didn't cut out of depression, but out of an urgency to bleed, to see herself bleeding, to be brought back into reality. They are really only tiny little nicks, and she much rather stare at someone else bleeding- hence her browser history. Blood is fascinating to the teenager.

Maia isn't afraid of work to get what she wants. When she does try at something, the girl is extremely organized, and she is always punctual. Maia will never be late. On that note, she is also fairly reliable. The trouble is, when she doesn't care about most things, what she works towards often differs from what people want her to work towards. Maia has a tendency to be lazy and unmotivated when things aren't in her best interest. Why try to succeed academically if she will never live up to family expectations. Now that she is living with Mr. Wynters, she mostly tries just enough to get by, as she did on Ikgai. The difference is that Maia doesn't really feel the need to earn Mr. Wynter's respect or live up to his expectations. For now, he is just a roof over her head. She has every intention of obtaining a job so she can earn her own money. With money, Maia is extremely frugal. She doesn't spend money on unnecessary things, and instead is trying to save as much as possible.

If it isn't evident by now, Maia is extremely judgemental. First impressions are everything to the girl. She has been bullied in the past so she isn't going to let her guard down easily. On top of this, Maia has a tendency to be vain. She is much more likely to spend that extra ten minutes in the morning making sure she looks okay before she goes out, rather than just getting up and going. As much as the girl tries not to be, she can come across as having feminine gracefulness in her walk. She doesn't have the usual feminine gait, and instead more walks with purpose and just intention.

If we are talking about things that Maia is good at, there are a few that jump straight to mind. The first is housework. Maia keeps a tidy a well-cleaned house. She doesn't see the advantage to letting things be dirty, and is more focused on keeping her room spotless. If it is spotless, there is less to look at, and less to critique. The second is Chess. To Maia, it is the ultimate game of logic and tactics. She excels in thinking her way through the field in games, and loves all logic based games as a result. At home in Ikigai Chess was a game that she could play with her grandfather, and actually have a chance against him.

If there is something that Maia is exceptionally good at it would be archery. The girl finds solace in the art of archery, and after the death of her mother, she retreated into this hobby, letting it overtake her life. She found that she had a natural affinity for it, and knew when someone was going to hit where she wanted it to. Archery is a solace and escape for the girl, and she will not give it up. No matter the laws on weapons here in Felici. If she has to, she will make a new bow herself. Maia had won many awards in Archery competitions back in Ikigai. Her shelf displays as much.

It is something to note that Maia is extremely jealous of magi. This jealousy is the fuel for her dislike of them. To her, Magi are already above humans in skills, naturally. They have nothing holding them back. They are powerful and Maia feels like they should just be on an even playing ground. This jealousy stems from her 'brother' and his attitude, as well as the actions that he completed that would make her feel inferior. Maia hates feeling inferior to anyone.

In regards to lovers, or sexual activity Maia has no love for sex of any kind. She doesn't get attracted to people, regardless of gender, and will thoroughly put down any advances made towards her. She much rather just act as acquaintances. Besides, it's super gross when people express affection of that sort in public. Do they not have consideration for other people? Maia will generally scowl at anything in that wheelhouse. However, if one would want to romantically pursue Maia, they would first need to become friends (a challenge I know) and then enter into the relationship. Even in a relationship no hanky panky will be happening. Maia has no desire to have sexual relationships with anyone.

Along with this general prude-ness, she prefers not to succumb to things like alcohol. Those sorts of things impair judgment, and she wouldn't want to do anything that would bite her later. Also booze just generally smells bad. As Maia doesn't like overly bitter things, she also doesn't like overly sweet things. They honestly hurt her teeth and taste buds. It's too overwhelming to the girl.

Maia dislikes many things, she's a finicky child, but she especially holds grudges for babies (incessant crying / stink), Spiders (Her brother had one as a pet and would terrify her with it), and Snakes. Snakes are mainly because she dislikes the idea of an anime slithering about. She has no love for the scaly creatures. Almost above all else, Maia, as a typical teenager doesn't like schoolwork. She thinks it's redundant and feels like her time could be better spent elsewhere. She and schoolwork don't get along, as she would say. it isn't that she is dumb, she is just lazy and doesn't apply herself.

Maia is fairly arrogant in her ability with archery. She knows she's good at it, and will often forget to see that others might be good at it too. She's worked hard for her skills, and won't be easily taken down. She is also fairly secretive. This comes with bottling up her emotions. She is good at not letting others know what she is feeling. Stone faced was often an adjective to describe her.

Due to being locked in a closet as a punishment when she was younger, Maia really doesn't like small spaces. She doesn't do well in them normally, and will often move to get out of them as soon as possible. If Maia was cornered in a fight, she would also move to get out of the small space that was preventing her from adequately drawing her bow to protect herself. Another major weakness of hers would be her sense of direction. Back on Ikigai she knew exactly where she was going, and how to get there. In Felici, however, and all of Ethea for that matter, the directions just seem to be different. Maia has a tendency to get lost and not know where she is. It really is a problem for the teen.

If one to see Maia, standing on the sidewalk, she would probably have a scowl on her face. Most likely its because she doesn't understand where she is, or how to get to the next place, but it could also b because she is just done. Frustrated easily, Maia almost never smiles. She is mildly attractive in a sort of "Leave me alone" demeanor that radiates from her body. Maia doesn't smile normally, and comes across as fairly unapproachable. Her classmates would whisper that she had a resting bitch face, and would appear as cold and calculating. most of the time she is just confused.

In her stance, Maia is squared. It is a side effect from her time in archery, and she doesn't have a very feminine gait. She is fairly thin and lean, with the most muscle being centered in her arms. Wielding a Yumi bow requires arm strength and finesse. In fact, archery is about the only time that Maia's stance and gait could be considered under that category. Due to archery, her hands are calloused, and have various scars from accidents over the years. The girl is around the average height of a sixteen-year-old girl, coming in at 5 feet and 4 inches. She is also average in weight, coming in at 118 pounds.

Maia's eyes range from dark blue to a gray dark blue in hue depending on the lighting.The are fairly large and she always seems to apply eyeliner to them in order to accentuate them. That is about the only makeup that the girl wears, and she just makes sure that she looks good. She has naturally long eyelashes that frame her eyes. If someone was to look at her, her facial expression in her eyes would echo a sternness. She's a reserved girl, but more oft than not she is frustrated and it shows in her eyes. Above her eyes are her fine eyebrows that she keeps trimmed. there will be no unibrows for this girl. Maia has a small delicate nose that seems to sit right in the middle of her face symmetrically. Overall she has an oval face structure that showcases her fair skin. Maia has a tendency to burn easily under the sun.

another striking feature of Maia's appearance is long ebony hair. It cascades down to the lower end of her back, almost to the top of her butt. It is made up of fine silky strands that in actually make Maia's hair quite thick.Bangs frame her face and hide her forehead, which she She often lets her hair loose, or keeps it in a side ponytail. As a nervous habit, she tends to run her fingers along the length of her hair. Normally there are two tiny red ribbons on either side of her neck pulling a few strands together in a neat little bow. On rare occasions her hair will go into pigtails or a side ponytail.

Now is a pretty important part. The scars. Maia does cut herself, though it isn't out of depression. She loves the sight of blood, she is fascinated by it. Maia's thighs are covered in small, one to two-inch scars of a meticulous hobby that she keeps. She covers these with either tights, or her skirt. It's funny how she has perfected the perfect skirt length, still somewhat fashionable, yet hiding her desires splendidly. Maia is very careful not to let others see as they always ask questions, and will try to hide them if she thinks that someone suspects. The scars cover most of her upper thigh and are working into the inner thigh now.



Maia has a tendency to wear things that she is required to wear. Hence the school uniform that she wears every day. If it is a weekend and she is going out she wears her late grandmother's and mother's clothes. Given this, they tend to be baggy and oversized on the small girl. Tatsu at least let her take those, as she had already been wearing them, and had integrated the clothing into her closet. She has a couple of formal kimono's and a few dresses, but she is rarely in them. Mostly, if she isn't in a uniform, she will be in her traditional Ikigain outfit for archery, which is also her practice outfit for archery.

Before you can get to know Maia, it's probably best if your know where she came from. Maia was born to Kailani Mei Nomi, a resident of Ikiagi, who strived to make technological advancements in her field of study- electrical engineering. Kailani led a blessed life in Ikigai. She had everything she ever wanted from her father, and only wanted to get better at what she was good at.

When she was eighteen, Kailani was accepted into an engineering program in Tensai. When she excelled at this she was recruited to an advanced new program that was just developing in Dagos. Ecstatic to be going to a country that really placed emphasis on engineering, and encouraged it, she gladly accepted the position. It was the chance of a lifetime.

Kailani spent the next two years at this position. It was incredible just how far advanced Dagos was in comparison to Ikigai, and she was more than willing to go further in her field. However, what she wasn't expecting when she got there, was how little the government would actually be funding the program. Kailani was more than fully aware of the amount of money that was going to be needed to complete this, and she knew that the government just wasn't going to give them enough.

Not understanding who exactly she was borrowing from, Kailani borrowed money to fund her program from who she thought were normal lenders at the time. When the government pulled all funding from the experiment, the twenty-year-old asked for more from her lenders, but it turned out they had wanted the money back, and were going to get it, one way or another. The young Ikigaian found herself put into a "house" where she would be earning her lenders the money back, one patron at a time in the brothel.

The young woman hated every second she was in servitude to these lenders, and she was in this service for another two years before she was finally able to pay off the amount the lenders were asking of her with interest. She wasn't expected to complete the transaction for another two months, but one patron of hers paid extremely well. Well enough that Kailani was finally free to do as she pleased. Kailani would only know this man as Mr. Wynters, and many of the other girls wouldn't take him because of his affinities. Kailani only accepted the position because she could take it and it was her way out of this hell hole.

With one call to her father Kailani would be on an express ticket back to Felici and a ship to Ikigai. She was finally returning home, and she wasn't ever going to Ethea ever again. Too many scars. Literally. Anaru Nomi gratefully accepted his daughter back into his home, and was more than willing to let her stay. Especially when he found out he had a grandchild on the way.

Kailani found out the normal way that one does, and remembered that the only time there was no protection used, was the last. Mr Wynters was probably the father. Kailani then vowed never to tell her daughter about the encounter, or the scars that littered her body. She didn't want her child to know how stupid she had been.

On May 2nd 2577, Maia Riria Nomi was born. Kailani wanted to give her child something of her fathers, and seeing as it was spring, the child was given the Ethean name of Maia, or spring. Riria was a natural lily on Ikigai, and was a nod to her cultural roots. Kailani loved her little girl, but felt like she wasn't hers. The anger most certainly wasn't.

When Maia questioned the scars, or her father, her mother would never answer. It was strictly kept a secret from her, and Maia desperately wanted to know. The girl was raised at her grandfather's house. He was a botanist, and grew various shades of lavender, a flower that normally wasn't found on the isles. He worked under a prominent Earth magi, one who knew the earth and his crops like no other. When Maia was six, this man died, and left his business to the grandfather, as well as a boy named Tatsu. Anaru officially adopted the older boy into the family, no questions asked.

Maia up until this point had led a blissful life. She was doted on by her mother, and grandfather. When Tatsu came into the picture however, everything changed. The boy was older by two years, extremely smart, and an earth Magi. The boy flourished under the the Nomi household, and grew into an intelligent young man who was more than primed to take over the business, once either the grandfather had passed, or he turned of the legal age.

Maia on the other hand, struggled with the loss of attention. She started to lash out as school kept getting harder, and where she was failing Tatsu was thriving. Maia grew into a very jealous child, and didn't like that her older 'brother' was getting all of the attention. Maia had turned from an extremely sweet sincere girl into a temper tantrum-prone child. She had thrown one of her biggest tantrums when at ten Tatsu had gotten to go with her mom to Tensai. She had to stay behind and do makeup homework. Life just wasn't fair to the little girl in her brain..

On the way back from the trip, an earth magi caused an earthquake which collapsed a bridge on the island. Kailani was driving on the bridge with Tatsu, and unfortunately went down into the water. Tatsu was able to push the car from the bottom of the river by bringing up the waterbed from beneath them, but Kailani had died on impact. Tatsu was the only survivor, and through his actions saved many other lives, but failed to save the one most important to Maia-- her mother.

The family was devastated, but Maia was especially. She withdrew into herself, and spent around a year mourning the loss of her mother and the emotions that she had left her mother with. In the year that Maia was mourning she soon discovered her fascination with blood. What started as a simple cut on her finger in the kitchen, would turn into a habitual ritual for the human child. It helped her deal with her anger, the anger that seemed to consume her. The girl was angry at Tatsu, he had let her mother die, at the world, it had forgotten her, and most certainly at the Earth Magi whose "simple mistake" cost Maia the one person she really held dear. Maia kept her anger bottled up, quietly fuming for the time when she alone, and able to express her rage, whether that was through her archery or the tiny slits on her thighs, the girl would continue doing what she knew how, to cope with her loss, and her newfound hobbies.

The one good thing to come out of her mother's death was that her grandfather introduced her to Archery. Maia found solace in the training. It seemed that she was very good at aiming, and she would slowly develop the skill over time. It would be what she would excel in, and appreciate. She even convinced her grandfather to make a training area in their backyard. If she wasn't in her room, this is where she would be. Maia found she needed to center herself in order to completely focus herself in the moment. She would be able to rely on this skill throughout the rest of her childhood. It provided an outlet for her anger.

If Maia was uninvested in schoolwork before the loss of her mother, it could be said for certain she lost all interest in academics. Over the next six years the girl would put up with being ignored by her classmates and ostracized, as well as if she was focused on, the teachers would always comment on her elder 'brother's' success and her 'lost potential'. To Maia, all she needed to do was pass. Why put in the effort when she was just going to be told she was stupid anyway. The girl would more often than not be found at the archery range, rather than in class. The avid skipper was barely passing, but no one really seemed to care.

Her grandfather was preoccupied with raising and grooming Tatsu to take over the business, and Maia always knew that she was lesser in her Grandfather's eyes. Why else would he not engage with her? Or never take her along. No, her grandfather seemed only to express disappointment in the young girl. Apparently there was too much of her father in her, and not enough of her mother. She didn't even know what that meant! It made her angry to have to experience the loss of her mother over and over everytime that her grandfather looked towards her.

Other than the overwhelming sense of disappointment, Maia was mainly left alone with her own being. Her grandfather wasn't too keen on interfering, and it was she who took over the chores, household duties, and cooking. She eventually learned what needed to be done to maintain their house, and got good at it. She tried to stick to the "out of sight, out of mind" theory that her grandfather preferred. Her favorite times were when they would gather around the table - just her and her grandfather, and they would talk about her mom. Even though Maia always felt like she wouldn't live up to her mom, she knew that her cooking was better. Her favorite compliment was being compared to her grandmother.

Maia would have another ten years with her grandfather. When she was sixteen, he would pass peacefully in his sleep, and Maia's world would change. Instead of staying in Ikigai with her "brother", who had no blood relation to Maia, it was revealed she would be shipped off to Ethea. The woman who showed up to the funeral and will reading would tell the girl it would only be a week where she would be able to gather her belongings, and say goodbye to the house. Of course Tatsu would inherit everything, and being of age, wouldn't be put into any families care. It was time for Tatsu to inherit the company. The only thing that Maia would be able to bring to Ethea, would be her clothes, and her beloved bow. The girl wanted desperately to bring more, but Tatsu was insistent that none of it belonged to her. The one kindness he showed was that she was allowed to bring her grandmother's Locket, which had a picture of her grandmother, grandfather and mother inside.

The First time she had heard Oliver Wynter's name was when the Ethean Social Worker had let it slip. They had tried to keep it from her, and reassure her that her father was an upstanding citizen. He was a government agent after all. Plus she wasn't going in unattended. Instead the social worker had promised to check up on her at least once a week, until she felt that things were going all right. It didn't help that Maia only knew basic Ethean, and there was a large language barrier that she would have to work around.

In all, the girl is uprooted, unknown, and mostly cranky at the notion that she has to go to a completely separate country, meet a man she has never met who is supposedly her father, and deal with the fact that she won't be in Ikigai anymore. She will miss her lavender fields, and her archery range. She hopes that she can become self-sufficient soon enough, and be out of this random man's hair. After all, family is fleeting. She's better off on her own.

And so, the sixteen-year-old was to live with the man behind the door. On the other side was a life she didn't really want, but fate wanted her to endure. She could only hope that it would be quick. With a smile the government agent knocked thrice on the side of the door, and glanced back at the girl. She was unusually silent, looking for the life that laid ahead of her.

Just for reference: Maia will be enrolled in the Hunter Academy by Oliver, which is the reason for her Hunter Student Occupation currently.

ARCHERY I: (Starter)
Can accomplish fundamental and basic feats with weapon.
Example of weapons allowed at this stage: Recurve Bow, Compound Bow, Longbow, Crossbow, etc. (Maia uses a traditional Ikigai Yumi Bow) Specialized arrows now unlocked: Downer: Arrow can inject target with a Downer once purchased




Heightened Sense of Sight: This person will never need corrective lenses of any kind (aka glasses or contacts) as long as they are in favor with the Huntress. This person can also, when focusing, see clearly for a perimeter of two miles in the distance

Lie Detector: (Upgrade of Heightened Sense of Sight) This is pretty self-explanatory. The user is able to look at a person and judge based on observing their micro expressions.

Familiar: Some Hunters are able to bond with one particular wild animal; bird, reptile, mammal, etc. It may be any animalistic creature that is not a Spirit or Magic inspired (no griffins, pegasus, etc). These animals are an allowed reoccurring NPC.

Familiar II: (Upgrade of Familiar) In regards to your one allowed animalistic creature buddy you are able to better communicate and understand the familiar. Verbal commands aren't necessary for every single action the Familiar takes now.

Sharp Shooter: Skilled with projectiles and able to aim them with a high proficiency. Even if you are a level Firearm III, you are, with the purchase of this ability, considered a IV. This also applies to the Throwing and Archery skills. You serve the Goddess of the Hunt for a reason. Hey All, Maia's a Master+ of Archery!



Archery II: You are now better able to shoot multiple arrows at once. Specialized arrows unlocked: Flash: blinding light can shine from arrow Smoke Screen: arrow can emit smoke screen Net: an impressively strong net will shoot out in hopes of entrapping its target.

Archery III: Specialized arrows now unlocked: Explosive: Arrow will explode in a small fiery blaze. Short-circuit: Arrow can shoot forth an electric charge that has the possibility of short-circuiting a cyborg's limb. Glue: The tip will eject fast drying industrial polymer that can cause target to get stuck.

Archery Mastery: At this point your mastery has become world known. People come from all over to learn from you. Few can beat your accuracy in your chosen bow. You could even hit a target A thousand paces away. You are more likely to better a Archery levels I, II, and III.
