It was always nice to have something to look forward to in the daily routine of day to day life, and for Nasrin this point in the month was one that she heartily enjoyed each time it rolled around. Two things that the avian magi adored were socializing with friends and sharing her lovingly tended flowers so, frankly, it was no surprise that she was so thrilled to have these meetings with Kelri where she could do just that. A day trip, gift giving, and sweets! What could possibly be bad about such a combination? Nasrin quite liked the occassions when she could travel beyond Haven to experience the quaint little town of Camlorn anyway, so there really was no limit to the things that she enjoyed about this routine arrangement that Kelri and the old magi had going. The human girl was such a cute thing, too.
Nasrin had arrived a bit early for the agreed upon time (2 o'clock, at the same cafe each time without fail) and so the fair haired woman took her time in indulging a stroll down Le'Fleur street as a whole, taking in its cozy shops and eateries among the gentle hum of activity, before she directed her feet towards their meeting place to get a table. A few open spaces lay scattered about inside yet the air magi chose to settle down at one outdoors, happily wrapping her talon'd fingers around a cup of hot chocolate to relax and wait for company to arrive. The weather had been cooling rapidly with the changing seasons but today's forecast was relatively mild. Sunlight shone down from between the few clouds up above, keeping the air warm enough for a light jacket to be enough to keep Nasrin cozy, and there was only an occassional chill in the gusts of wind that periodically billowed down the street to stir her hair and flutter the petals of the flower bouquet resting beside her chair.
Minutes ticked by in a pleasant lull, leaving Nasrin's cup about half full of her chocolatey drink, before the magi's pale blue eyes caught sight of a familiar form heading down the sidewalk towards the cafe and she lofted one arm to give a cheery wave. Well, as best a wave that her bird-like hands could manage. So long as it grabbed Kelri's attention (it would be very hard to miss given that Nasrin was seated right outside the cafe) that was all that mattered. 413 WORDS ● Kelri Anderson ● ahhh i hope this works to start things off!

Sweet talkin' lady, love how you entice. Sugar, with just the right amount of spice
| ◀ | [attr="class","PrettyInPink"] Today was one of Kelri’s favorite days. This was because she was meeting someone special. Someone that was utterly adorable and always smelled like roses. Or at least she did to Kelri. Today was the day she got to meet her friend Nasrin in Camlorn. Camlorn was one of the only places that Magi and humans could meet peacefully, the local townsfolk knew enough not to mess with the small amount of Magi that inhabited the outer areas of the small town. It was also a meeting place for those that needed it, as it was right in between dagos and Felici. The baker had to make a trip out to talk with her supplier anyway, and making the trip was well worth it if she could get to spend some time with her friend. Also there was the customary exchange of flowers for cupcakes and Kelri was always happy with the flowers that she received from her friend. If her brothers had known that her trips to Camlorn also included magi meetings? That would not go over well. So Kelri kept her mouth shut and enjoyed her once a month meeting in secret. It wasn’t really in secret, but she didn’t say anything to her racist family. They just wouldn’t understand. They only saw magi as animals, and not human. They were foreign. Kelri on the other hand? She saw things a little differently. Which is why she had brought two dozen flower cupcakes of all sorts of types decorated. Not only did they serve as good practice, but the woman would find them delicious. Kelri was sure of it. Well hopefully anyway. Straightening her sweater Kelri had frowned. The meeting with her supplier had run a smidge late and she didn’t like to keep her friends waiting. Especially when they were adorable. Kelri had stashed the two dozen cupcakes in her bag, and was quickly making her way to the small café where the two of them met. Her worried face burst into a smile when she saw Nasrin. It seemed she hadn’t given up on Kelri getting there. Good. She grinned and walked over, waving back as she approached the café table. She smiled as she finally made it. “Nasrin! Thank you for waiting.” She checked her watch, oh yes she was late. That was no good. “I'm soooooooo sorry I’m late.” The baker bowed her head in front of her magi friend. “Forgive me?” She would raise and eyebrow and smile playfully. “I brought some flowers for you.” And there was the bribe. She giggled before straightening and sitting at the table. “I brought two dozen this time, so you should have enough to share with friends if you want to.” She smirked a bit and tilted her head. “Though, I wouldn’t blame you if you just wanted them all to yourself.” The lighthearted grin would return as she would adjust her hat. “ Sooo How are you?” |

Nasrin had never been the type to rush around on tight schedules or fret over a few lost minutes, so if the fair haired magi even noticed the fact that Kelri was a little late she certainly wasn’t going to chide the girl on it. Some things needed to be timed down to the letter— like train departures and all the best seasons for planting certain seeds —but a casual visit such as this? Not at all. It wasn’t as if Nasrin was bored in her waiting, anyway, since she had her cocoa and the simple pleasure of people watching as the typical afternoon activity in Camlorn went along.
She was still delighted to actually spot Kelri approaching, though, and a mirrored smile slid into place on the magi’s lips once her friend drew near enough for them to speak. ❝Of course I would wait. Our get together is the whole reason I’m here today, it would be disappointing to leave without even getting to see your pretty face.❞ Nasrin replied, breezily, before loosing a tinkling laugh at the apology. A quick glance through the windows of the café to where a clock was mounted on one wall showed that, yes, it was a bit after the agreed time, but this failed to perturb her in the least. The air magi knew that Kelri had other business in the area so there was good enough reason for the lateness. If anything, Nasrin only would have started to worry for Kelri’s well being if it had become that late.
❝Forgiven.❞ As she would have been regardless, however the offering of flowers and extra sweets did help some. Everyone had their price.
There was a slight movement as the feathers interwoven in Nasrin’s hair ruffled and fluffed, visibly showing the magi’s interest, and her smile became a bright grin. ❝I am weak to anything you bake, so I just might decide not to share.❞ On the topic of gifts, this prompted Nasrin to reach down beside her chair and pick up the bouquet of primroses (carefully tied up with string and silvery paper) to present to Kelri. The flowers came in so many pretty colors that she’d had trouble choosing which kinds to bring along, ultimately settling on a mixture of violet and pale yellow blossoms. ❝For you. Try to get them in some water soon so that they keep nicely.❞ A piece of advice that she gave every time that they had this exchange.
❝And I’m doing quite fine, as always. I swear the month goes by faster and faster each time, but that’s probably just me getting old.❞ Another laugh slipped free from Nasrin’s lips as she paused to take a sip of her cooling drink. ❝I’ve started to notice more regulars coming by my shop which makes me very happy. More business means for freedom for me to grow all the flowers I want, and it’s nice to feel like I’m carving out my niche in Haven. But what about you, dear? How is Sweet Nothings doing?❞

[attr="class","slowlyrics"]I can just hear them now [attr="class","slowlyrics1"]How could you let us down? [attr="class","slowbod"]
Kelri just didn’t like to keep people waiting. In fact it was actually one of her biggest pet peeves, considering the situation. She always tried to keep her appointments in order and color coding was her thing. Legit she had separate highlighters for different types of events and she made sure that they would be readily available to be understood because of her codex. So the fact that she was running late to a friend? That just made her blood boil. She hated being late with a passion.
Kelri would offer a silent nod to the air magi, and her signature dimpled smile. “I thank you my lady,” would be the response to being forgiven.
Kel smiled as she noticed the feather’s ruffling in Nasrin’s luxurious hair. She was always curious about the texture of the feathers, but she figured that it would be quite rude to ask. Besides, beauty should be adored and looked at, not so much touched. “I’m okay with you not sharing, but don’t tease the poor people who aren’t going to be able to have the deliciousness.” She knew that most magi didn’t know the goodness of sweets, but that was more the human’s fault rather than any fault of the magi race. “Of course!” As soon as the woman came back over she would ask for a tall glass of water. This was the norm, so it was readily available to the human baker. “Nasrin, these are gorgeous, thank you.” She was always in awe of people who could grow flowers. She certainly couldn’t. The only flowers Kel could take care of were virtual ones. “I’m eternally amazed with the art of your flowers.” She didn’t know why but they always seemed so happy.
Kel would sip on her ice tea as the two of them spoke together. “I’m happy you are doing well, and the months do seem to be going faster, but hey, time flies when we are busy working.” She would give a soft giggle. “You know you don’t look a day over twenty-five darling.” Kelri wasn’t aware of exactly how old her air magi friend was, but she didn’t really care. “Besides, the older you get the wiser you are… right?” She would grin and tilt her head before taking a looong sip of her iced tea.
At the mention of regulars Kelri would give a gasp and clap her hands together. “Oh Nazzy, that’s amazing!” She grinned and offered her hands to the other woman to hold. “Don’t regulars just make the world go round?” The young baker knew the importance of those who were regulars, and the business they generated. “It’s wonderful when people appreciate your work and your niche.” She would give the woman’s hands a squeeze in consolidation. She knew the practicalities of being a businesswoman. “Any cute regulars that seem interested?” The baker would give a wink and a waggle of her eyebrows before smirking over at the woman.
“Sweet nothings is doing well, I’m thinking of making another shop in Dagos, and separating my time between the Felici store and the Dagos one.” She would tilt her head and sigh just a little. “In Dagos, I could do more for the Magi cause, actually hire magi, and use them for work, give them a place to live. Those sorts of things.” She would frown slightly, and shake her head. “I may be good at baking, but I’m useless when it comes to things that count, like people actually treating magi like they matter.” Her gaze would turn sad at the thought of her brothers. “They do matter, possibly more than humans, especially after the horrible things that humans did.” Her voice would fall silent as she looked over at her bird friend. “Oh Nazzy, I’m really sorry my race are stupid idiots who can’t get out of their own way.” Kel wanted to help, but she couldn’t do much as she was. ❝Ah I suppose I'll try not rub my spoils in anyone's faces. Sometimes it's just so hard not to gloat a bit.❞ A touch of something sly creep'd into the warm curve of Nasrin's grin and she gave a loose shrug of her shoulders that betrayed her inner thoughts. No promises. Hehe; hopefully she could just get these delicious treats back to her home without anyone trying to nose their way in, then she wouldn't have to gloat about not sharing.
The thanks paid to her gift prompted the air magi's demeanor to shift back to warm and thoroughly pleased as she tipped her head in a mock bow. If there was any one way to gain Nasrin's favor it would always be complimenting her work as a florist— whether that was her shop, the way she cared for her flowers, or her talent in arranging them —and the satisfaction she felt at being praised for that work unfurled in her chest like one of those very same blooms she loved. She was willing to accept praise for things she took pride in. ❝You are very welcome, Kelri. With how delicious the sweets you make me are, I just have to gift you with my best work in return. It's a very good way for me to try out new arrangements, too. See if they come out any good.❞
Judging by Kelri's response, she could take note that a bouquet of primroses was worth advertising in the future.
Oh but her human friend really liked to spoil her with compliments sometimes. Another soft giggle came from Nasrin in response to that flattering comment on her age (not a day over twenty-five? oh dear... if only!) and she side eyed Kelri somewhat wryly. ❝The older you get the wiser you are,❞ She echoed, thoughtfully, before her laughter finished in a huff. Yes there was a lot of knowledge that she could attribute to living this long, seeing as much as she had. ❝They do seem to go hand in hand. But I think that's also just because you can only be whapped over the head with certain life lessons so many times before they finally sink in.❞
Now this was another feature of what she liked so much about these visits. Of course the gifts were a wonderful incentive, but Nasrin so loved to have a friend she could share a lighthearted chat with, to catch up, and she was always delighted to hear more about Kelri's life back in Felici. She'd never visited the capital city (since her race made that a bit... risky) yet she had promised before that she would see Sweet Nothings in person at least once. Someday. Nasrin gave a sunny smile and a nod to the comment on regulars before lapsing into a period of silence as she allowed her friend to go on about her goal of opening up a new store. Now that was exciting! The fair haired magi was naturally thrilled to hear that Kelri was doing well enough to expand; she deserved it for being as kind as she was. ❝To me, that sounds like one of the best ways you could possibly help magi. I do mean that,❞ It was said as reassurance, but Nasrin truly spoke from experience. If it hadn't been for a certain, generous florist and her husband— the humans who had taken Nasrin in when she had been at her most low —and their choice to house her, heal her, teach her; well then she might not have been alive now to tell the tale.
Nasrin's smile became a more melancholy one, then, and the sadness of it reached her clear blue eyes. ❝Do not sell yourself so short, dearest. There are many other ways to help besides making soaring speeches and taking up arms, just doing your best to be kind helps magi like me. You're the change the world needs.❞ She trailed off to give a vague sigh. ❝As for assigning blame to a whole race, I don't hate humans for what happened. Things might be moving along faster if not for... certain magi who still hold onto that hate, so the blame doesn't really fall to one side. You don't have to apologize for something you had no part in.❞ Even still, Nasrin knew in her heart that the biggest losses in her life, the most pain, had not come from what happened during the camps and ensuing genocide. Not like other magi. It was hard to tell others of her kind to be tolerant when she hadn't had any loved ones murdered in cold blood.
How had their conversation become so sad? This wouldn't do. Thankfully, Nasrin had always excelled at brightening the mood back up and she placed down her cup, gaze now glinting brightly. ❝You asked about cute regulars. Well. I may have been on a brief date with one who came into my shop and paid me some very nice complements.❞

[attr="class","slowlyrics"]I can just hear them now [attr="class","slowlyrics1"]How could you let us down? [attr="class","slowbod"] Kelri would grin at the air magi with a satisfied smile. She knew her cookies were good, but they weren’t that good. To hear them described as spoils, it was an interesting experience, to say the least. She was just glad to hear that people would enjoy them. After all her sweets were definitely sweet. “As long as someone is enjoying them, that is really what matters.” From the sly smirk that came onto her friends face Kelri was sure that it would be interesting trip back to her home. That much was sure.
Kelri really honestly loved her friend’s flowers and arrangements. She had no skill in arranging flowers, her mother had tried to teach her after all, but it just hadn’t clicked in the woman’s brain as a child. Really the closest she got to working on arrangements were cupcake boutiques, and even then it was more about frosting the cupcakes then the actual arrangements. “Awwww Nazzy~” Kelri would blush at her friend’s compliment. She loved baking, and she loved the little deal that her and Nasarin had started. It really was beneficial to both of them, and even if it wasn’t, Kelri was more than willing to give her sweets to her friends to try. “Not going to lie, I love testing out new recipes with you too.” She gave a wolfish grin and shrugged. Lying was bad after all.
She was excited to have someone who understood the importance of advertising in today’s world.
Compliments really made the world go round, and it really did make people generally more happy. Kelri really did believe that the if someone was genuinely complimenting someone, it was only bound to end in sincerity and probably make someone’s day. Besides, it was true. To a human, Nasrin really did look quite young. She honestly didn’t know how old her friend was, but she supposed it didn’t matter. What mattered was Nasrin’s personality. That was really all that mattered. “Well, at least that’s what I’m told.” She smirked and winked at her friend. Nazzy would know that it was all in good jest. “Life has a tendency to whack people, though...” She giggled as she tilted her head. “I suppose some people need more whacking.” Some people just didn’t get it. No matter how many times life metaphorically whacked them with the largest stick.
Kelri knew that her friend probably couldn’t go to the capital city without there being trouble, especially with her family. It wasn’t an ultimatum, but it sure wasn’t a good idea for magi to roam in the streets of Felici. It was honestly one of the reasons that Kelri was trying to get the money to open a shop in Dagos. She would love to interact and be with magi more. Support them and their cause. She hated how humans were so… selfish. She was aware of her own privilege and was trying to use it for good. At the very least she could try. “I think I should at least try.” Kelri bit her lip in thought. This wasn’t something that she was doing on a whim. She really should have tried this a long time ago. If her shop was doing well enough, then it was only natural that she expand. Dagos just seemed like the natural next step. “I’m thinking about opening it up in the slums…” Her gaze glanced up at the bird woman sitting across from her as she took a sip of tea. “Those people need it, regardless of race.”
Her gaze turned down to look at the leaves that sat, floating on the top of her tea. “Kindness seems to be a quality that those of my fellow race seem to lack, and it hurts.” Kelri herself wasn’t affected by this, but she knew others who were. It was all quite sad, and she didn’t blame magi that held grudges about humans and their actions. “Even if there are people to blame on both sides, it doesn’t chance the face that my race has done something shameful and they don’t even seem to be apologetic, or feel remorse. Innocent lives were killed.” Her eyes would flash as she gripped her cup. Kelri was genuinely angry at this point. It wasn’t right, and she knew it, no matter how her family acted, this wasn’t right. “My own family has murdered innocent magi.” The young baker felt genuine remorse at this. She needed to atone for her sibling’s sins.
The baker fell into silence, remembering the pain that she had first felt when her brothers were…bragging about killing innocents. The baker couldn’t handle that pain, so she kept quiet. The woman really did feel remorse at the entire situation. When Nasrin brought the mood back up to a topic much brighter Kelri couldn’t help but smile. She had no right to be sad about such things, her struggles were nothing compared to the magi’s. “Ooooh tell me more~” Kelri would rest her head on her hand as she leaned closer to the air magi. “A date?!” Kelri’s voice would go about two octaves higher in excitement. “Oh Nazzy! That’s wonderful!” A date was a wonderful thing. The air magi definitely deserved it. “Tell me about them.” Her voice would take on a whining tone, teasing the air magi. “They better not mistreat you. I don’t care if he is a magi, no one hurts my Nazzy~”
What could she say? She was overprotective of her air magi friend.

Mutually beneficial indeed. Aside from the fact that Nasrin took a very simple joy from getting to give out colorful bouquets to friends and loved ones, there also was a distinct benefit to sprucing up her craft with new breeds of flora. That didn't mean that she would throw test cases Kelri's way all willy nilly— no no her human friend deserved only the best —but it was certainly a fun way to try new things! Not to mention that the flowers were also traded for delicious sweets. ❝Then I suppose that makes us each other's guinea pigs.❞ Nasrin replied with another whistling giggle.
The comment about some people needing some "extra whacking" then prompted the air magi to give a short hum of agreement before she set her (now empty) cup of cocoa aside. She gave her head a light shake, fair hair shifting about her face. ❝You are right about that. I admire people who hold fast to their faith— who don't let themselves be so easily swayed by others or the troubles of life itself —yet there's a difference between that and being... bull headed. Like in matters of race,❞ "Old fashioned" is what you might've called people who clung a bit too hard to the thinking of the past; something that Nasrin never wanted to be considered. In her mind, to live was to adapt, and it was frustrating to come up against people who were so... so... bitter. ❝It's hard to change people's minds, unfortunately. They don't want to change because it's comfortable, and they surround themselves with others who tell them that it's okay. That they are right. They're very insecure, actually, because on some level they must know that they are wrong.❞ Her voice had gone soft by this point, gaze wandering down towards where her distinctly inhuman fingers lay interlocked on the table, but she then glanced back up to find that Kelri looked genuinely upset by the injustice of it all. Poor dear; it was certainly something worth getting angry over, even more so when those types of people were as close as family.
❝Your family, yes, but not you,❞ Nasrin reached out a hand to gently touch one of her young friend's own (an approximation of a comforting pat) and offered a smile, though her pale blue eyes were mournful. She was not going to allow Kelri to shoulder all that guilt without at least speaking up. ❝If any magi tries to hold what they did against you, then they're just narrow minded and stupid with anger. Not a good way to be. You're just one person doing what you can to help us. It's enough.❞
Haha it really seemed that there was nothing better to banish melancholy than some gossip, which Nasrin didn't mind providing. She did want to tell someone she trusted about all this, actually. Get it out. ❝And here I'm supposed to be the protective mother bear,❞ She quipped with a genuinely amused snicker. ❝Hmm well, his name is Elijah. An earth magi. I met him about a week ago when he visited my shop... and ran headfirst into one of my hanging plants. His vision isn't the best. Hehe. But oh he was so sweet, complimenting me on how well I took care of the flowers and saying I had a lovely voice; not to mention that he has a rather handsome face. We're planning to meet up again sometime soon.❞

| Reach out your hands Don't turn your back Don't walk away How in the world Can I wish for this? Never to be torn apart Close to you 'Til the last beat Of my heart | Kelri would giggle and nod in agreement with Nasrin. “I can get behind that.” The baker was totally down for being each other’s mutual guinea pigs. That meant they were on the same level of respect and friendship. Kelri highly appreciated that much, and she genuinely liked baking for her bird friend. It made her happy. Baking in general made Kelri happy of course, that just was what her family was like, but she knew that baking for her bird friend was special. It was something where she could get sweets to her and those she knew, without having the prejudice of magi being involved. Kelri would watch as the magi in front of her shook her head letting her hair down. It really did look quite soft, but Kelri assumed it would be really quite rude of her to ask to touch it, so she didn’t even entertain the thought for very long. Let’s just say she was quite jealous and envious of the other woman. Her hair really was gorgeous, and it looked extra soft, especially when it floated in the wind. She would nod as the woman spoke. “Having faith is important after all, it is something that can keep us going.” She believed in her god of life, and would continue to. “Faith and obstinate are two different things, I agree.” She would offer a sad smile to the bird magi. “I just want people to recognize when they are wrong.” It was quite sad really, humanity’s never ending thought that magi were lesser. She just wanted people like her brothers to realize why they were wrong, and become a little more compassionate to the world, regardless of race. She sighed as she glanced up at Nasrin. “Thank you for being my friend.” The thought was simple, but it was true. She much rather be uncomfortable and morally right than comfortable and a bigot. Kelri would sniffle and look up at the air magi. “I’m trying” would be the small whisper that would come out of her mouth. She really was. She knew her family was wrong and she knew that she couldn’t change their opinions but she herself could try to be decent. She could try, and right now, that was all that she could really do. Kelri would again giggle at the woman. “Nah, don’t you know I’m little but fierce?” She grinned again, “especially when it comes to my friends.” It really was true, the baker was fiercely protective of those she called her friends, especially if they were magi. She didn’t want to lose their trust of their friendship in any way. She snickered as the woman began to describe the man who she had been flirting with. “Oh my goodness. He did what? A hanging plant?” Smirking she would shake her head in mirth. “I’m glad someone else recognizes your greatness at least.” The baker would smirk motion to the woman in front of her. “He would have to be blind to not recognize what an awesome woman you are.” She giggled. “You liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkeeeeeee him” The words were drawn out in a teasing way towards Nasrin. “You want to kisssssss himmmm” the song would continue until she smirked and tilted her head. “No but seriously, do you want to see him again after this date, the upcoming one?” Kelri just wanted her friend to be happy.
