A how-to guide for new applicants.
Step 1: Copy PastaFirst thing's first. You have to copy the application code. Paste this into the CODE TAB. If you paste in preview it wont work. And editing it would probably be best in code form too since to find any section in the app all you have to do is CTRL+F and search for the section.

Step 2: The Basics
Located at the top of the application. This is where you state your character's name, race, sexuality, and have a snazzy little round picture. Not really a lot to go over here.
- How do I change the picture? Simply Ctrl+F and search for fry in the code tab. That will take you directly to the link for that picture. It is best to use a square picture for this and most computers will come with some program that will let you crop a picture if you don't have one. imgur or tinypic are good places to upload your own picture if so.
- Can I change the quote(s) in the app? Yes. Music lyrics are often the best bet. But you can put whatever you wish as long as it's relatively appropriate.
Step 3: Personality
Oh boy. Welcome to the hardest part of the application. That's right! Harder than backstory, far harder than appearance and skills combined. You see making a round character, with flaws and weaknesses, is the hardest thing a Role-player learns.
- Positive Traits: Are they good at the violin? Is he/she courageous? Creative? Everything from little talents to positive personality attributes, and you can list as many as you like.
- Negative Traits: Rather than focusing on the good things. What are their flaws? Do they have a tendency to lie to protect themselves? Are they apathetic to others, shy, or rather blunt to people? Really make sure that your character isn't perfect, everyone has flaws about them let's get creative!
- Strengths and weaknesses: Oh boy this is a biggie. I'ma save that to step 4.
- Likes and Dislikes: Self explanatory. You can list as many things you love and hate as you want. Would help people looking at your app to see if your characters like the same things. Also helps to know if you hate magi/cyborgs/humans you rasis.|
Personality overall
Okay So here's the big chunk of the personality section. As you can see there's a 200 word minimum, for this section. Now, if you're still relatively new to RP, or perhaps spent most of your time on a more relaxed site, this may seem daunting. However Doc is here to give you a very simple way to increase that word count. The best part? You've already done half the work! (Well you should have at least by now)
If you're having trouble deciding how you want your character to be, it's best to find single descriptor words to describe them: Clever, Cold, Optimistic, Distant, Extroverted, Dominant, Supportive. Notice something? That's right! These are the same words you would find for positive and negative traits! So now all you have to do is choose a couple, and make a single paragraph that explains that feature about them. For example, if you chose Supportive. How so? Is it to strangers or only friends? Is it purely monetary or emotional support or would they go into the mud to help someone? If you use a sentence to answer each of those questions, then suddenly you have a 4-5 sentence paragraph with easily 50 words in it!
Another great thing to add is their current view on the other races or Even deities. How has the massive magi genocide changed their views on people? Do they support it or are they content to be a silent disapproving look? With that as well as 2 or 3 trait paragraphs and suddenly you've doubled your word count. Great job!
Step 4: Strength and WeaknessesAlright, let's backtrack into the table. This gets it's own section because it is probably the most important part in any RP that has combat. More often than not, people want to make a character that's good at combat, and yet all of their weaknesses are personality based like "Unable to eat sweets" or "Doesn't understand people". These do not pertain to combat, but are good details to know, and thus belong in the Negative attributes section. This is why, All Strengths and weaknesses must be combat related and equal in number. Doc, I'm not trying to be a Mary sue, can I have more weaknesses than strengths?No. Usually more weaknesses would be a good thing, however we've had a problem with what I call the "Dark and Edgy" syndrome. They create a character that is overall depressing, no strengths, no happiness, just dark and "woe is me and my life". This world is dark yes, but every person has many positive qualities and strengths, just gotta go find them.
Tips and tricks!A good idea is to focus on single rpg terms. These terms gets a good idea across and can apply to nearly all combat situations. Some examples and definitions: - Strength: How hard you hit. As a weakness it means that you cant carry very much and your punches by themselves are rather wimpy. As a strength, It means you can carry a lot and your attacks pack a whollop
- Agility: Think agility as your ability to dodge. Different from speed, you can be agile and flexible while not necessarily fast.
- Stamina: How tuckered out you get. Can you dish out a lot of attacks and keep going? or do you use up all your energy in a very short burst and hope for the best?
- Quick Thinking: In combat, plans usually don't go according to plan. is your character good at coming up with new plans? or are they more prone to panicking when surprises happen?
- Endurance: How many hits you can take. High endurance means you can take a lot of attacks before you start slowing down, while a low endurance means you're more prone to passing out (or fleeing) from too much damage.
- Dexterity: How skilled they are in performing tasks, more often with the hands. A person adept in Throwing is usually very dexterous, while someone wielding a BFS would be less so.
These are not your only options! There are so many words and attributes you can choose! This is just a spark to get that creative fire going.
But Doc. What if I want my character to be not a combative player?Oh that's brilliant. Go right ahead, Rather than thinking things from a combat standpoint think more in physicality. Focus on physical strength, intelligence, stamina, and overall fitness. This gives people an idea of what you can do if you are accidentally put into that situation, or you can be yoga buddies!
Step 5: Appearance
A relatively easy section since pictures speak a thousand words.
- How do I change the picture?: Just like with Fry, CNTRL+F and type "bender" you will be taken directly to the link. Replace that link with your direct image link. Rectangular pictures look the best, but they can be of any size, be a png or one with a background.
- What size picture should I use?: Well that's the beauty of code. You can use any size, and then adjust your width in the code of your image. It should already have [width="200px"] in the code so you should only have to change the link, however you can change that 200 to anything you like just don't make it over 300.
- Paragraph time!: Word minimum here is once again 200 words. but, just like last time, Doc's here with easy ways to get that word count up. We can easily split this up into 2 separate paragraphs: Head and Body. In the head paragraph you describe their face, Hair color, Hair style, and eyes are the easiest, but then go to the shape of the face, pointed chin or strong jaw? high cheekbones? what sort of expression is usually found on it? that right there is easily 6-7 sentences. and should be almost half your word count. The body paragraph will be much larger. Describe their body shape and build, how muscular they are, how tall, are they on the skinny side? tattoos, birth marks, piercings, scars, there's so much that you can describe. And when in doubt, add an embarrassing birth mark. If you're a Cyborg you can have a separate paragraph where you describe your Mechanical parts.
- Magi Abnormalities: If you are a magi, have a separate paragraph devoted solely to your abnormalities. It makes it easier to find since this will likely be the one thing your picture wouldn't show. If you are a no-maj this is still required.
- Fashion!: What's their average everyday outfit? this could totally be what the FC is wearing or something different! However people will automatically assume the FC is right. Lucky for you, there's no minimum!
Step 6: BiographyWelcome to the Second hardest part of the Application! Most people would argue it's the hardest, but the thing is, it's the longest, not the most difficult, Which is why people get confused. This is also one of the most thought provoking section. It's where you give your character their backstory, what made them into who they are today. Do they hate Magi? Perhaps your character's parents were part of a faction or had quite the scandalous affair.
- Early life: Childhood. raised in a good home? poor home? rich bastard? surely you had friends, even imaginary. childhood sets up the entire character if you think about it, it's the first domino.
- Events: Life often takes a turn around major events in life. Tragedy, going to a new school, the sudden desire to run naked with the colors of the wind. How old your character is will effect how many life altering events you have gone through.
Breaking the history down in pieces makes things easier to deal with and lessens the stress on your mind. You See that this there's not a lot of instruction here. that's because this is 100% on you. I cant tell you the best way to do this section. All I can do is give you the tools to make your masterpiece. Step 7: SkillsThis is the Fun part! Here is where you put your Starting abilities. - Starting abilities are listed under your Race. - Standard ability limit is 2. However, 3 is allowed if and only if you have a good reason for doing so. (Extremely militaristic characters with years of training for example) - Any race can start with one or multiple Weaponry levels instead of race starters. You can find those Here. - If this is not your first character. You can use money from your existing character(s) to buy extra upgrades and starters. So if you have an idea for a very old master of some kind, it may be best to leave them for your second character so they start at the combat level you want them to. You put these abilities under purchased, and then create a transaction with any character stating your wip as the intended character.
