The heat was unbearable and annoying like no other to the mute hunter that rested in the shade of a tall building. The air was so warm and the sun so radiating that he was positive that if he cracked an egg on the pavement it would turn into ashes. It would flat out skip the cooking process. He was thankful that he was smart enough to dress for the weather. He had left his jacket at home and dawned a simple red tank top, with his usual red finger-less gloves and jeans. Around his neck was a thin gauze to keep his wound hidden from those around him. Most hunters knew what lay beneath those wrappings but he did not like to parade his cursed status among the others. He got enough shit for it all ready.
Speaking of fellow hunters he was out today with another to do a simple hunt. Fellow a Magi and learn what it does and if they needed to--take it down. He didn't mind the simple mission but the heat was making this hard to deal with! Even Aries, his abnormally large doberman, was even starting to dislike the heat. Well, he thought his familiar was heating it but it was so hard to tell with that beast who sat next to him like a statue. The creature hadn't moved a single inch. It was much to busy focusing on the individual that River had been partnered with for this event. He couldn't say he blamed Aries for staring, after all he was a bit unnerved by him as well due to the fact he reminded him of a certain someone that liked to make him bleed. Daily.
River would of put more thought into it but the sudden motion to his right side caught his attention. Their target was moving in what appeared to be a feminine store. Ah fuck this shit, he was not going into a Victoria Secrets. "You got to be kidding me..." He thought to himself with a light groan with a hand over his face. Really, did they have to tag along for this mission that would now involve going into or near such a store? Someone was going to think he was some kind of dirty pervert! Which, of course, he was not! Aries made a light noise and stood to full attention. Glancing at the beast he knew that meant his partner was approaching them.

Yeah to be honest Archaleos wasn't loving this weather, either. It made it harder to focus, harder to keep his thoughts in order when the sunlight was scorching a hole through the back of his head (the air a thick, humid blanket pressing down on all who dared wander outside) and if there was one thing the Hunter hated, it was things that interfered with his work. Even if he was managing to stay mostly on track. It was a habit for him to go out each day in roughly the same outfit and modify as the need arose, so Archaleos had quickly come to realization that the trench coat had to go. At least if he wanted to avoid baking alive before he could see the mission through. Aesthetics could be shoved towards the back burner when there were more important things to think about, after all. This prompted him to shed the coat and, after a little while of trailing their target through the heat of the day, his sleeves had been pushed up to the elbow which put the entirety of the gleaming metal below in full view. The temperature still left a lot to be desired (even after these adjustments) but at least Archaleos' shirt was thin enough material to keep him from sweating too much. So far, the mission hadn't been very eventful. Not exactly thrilling, but a smoother ride every once in a while could be appreciated; the same went for having a not-so-chatty partner. Less effort for all those pleasantries, more room to be alone with his thoughts. Archaleos held no real opinions of River thus far (besides a quiet curiosity about that curse he'd heard whispers about) and so far he'd simply acted... normal. Polite— in his smiley, hollow sort of way —but otherwise not looking to start much conversation that wasn't pertinent to the mission. Ah but it seemed that they'd have to regroup again with this turn of events. Archaleos greeted the other Hunter with a little finger wave (and ever present smile) as he approached before halting in place to flick his gaze towards the store their target had gone into. It definitely presented a problem. Not really as far as shame went— since Archaleos was honestly apathetic to whatever the store might be selling —but two males in a lingerie store? Carrying weapons? That would be a bit conspicuous. ❝I doubt it would be wise to follow them in there,❞ he mused, the fingers of one robotic hand lifted to tap at his chin in a thoughtful gesture. ❝There is only an employee's exit to the back of the store. so it's doubtful that they would go out that way unless if it was for an escape.❞| 0000 WORDS | | Enki River | | sounds good! i'm so amused by river getting that creep vibe from arch |

In response to the greeting, the hunter gave Arch a soft nod of hello while Aries huffed under his breath. The large doberman came to set himself between the two of them as the familiar was overly protective of its master. Bending down slight, River patted the dogs head and looked back at the building. There was no way for them to enter in the front to see what was going on from the inside. River made a slight face and tilted his head to the side and nodded once again. There was an employee exit like Arch had stated and that was around back though he doubted the Magi they had been tailing even noticed them at all. Too be honest, the Magi seemed like an airhead from hell that really wasn't all that dangerous. At least, thus far anyways. Who knows, that could easily change within a few short moments.
River raised his hands to speak to the other and during mid sign he realized this guy probably didn't know sign language. Hell, ninety-nine percent of the Guild didn't know what half of his hand movements even meant. There had been many times he was made fun of and then some. Stopping, he lowered his hands and groaned mentally at not bringing any paper with him to use as a way to communicate. Well, this was frustrating as hell. Ruffling his hair in thought he turned on his heels to look at the building before them. Well, what should they do now?
Curious, he turned back towards Arch and decided to use the old fashioned body language to make a point to him. He casually pointed at the building and shrugged his shoulders. Mostly, to get the point of he was unsure what to even do right now. Should they remain out here and wait or try to go around back? Clearly, peering into the window was a no go otherwise they might get arrested for being a peeping tom or some shit like that.
Man, sometimes it was really hard to do anything as a voiceless hunter. He really wished Kalidas did not steal his voice or rather mess it up so badly that it physically pained him to use his voice. Scratching at his chin, he looked down at Aries and then back to the building. Well, they could sent Aries in to chase them out? But that would cause issues as well wouldn't it. Man, what now? River sighed softly and would then allow Arch to form any plans because River was just not feeling up to that kind of thing.

The significance of the dog's stance was not lost on Archaleos and it prompted a mild flicker of amusement from the young Hunter. It was no shock to hear that his presence and general demeanor tended to make people... uneasy, and really he cared very little about those opinions. Dangerous? Him? Not to (most) humans, at least. Nothing to fear if you have done nothing wrong, right? But back to the task at hand— a much more useful expenditure of his focus. The brief movement of River's hands had caught Archaleos' attention but, true to the other's assumption, he did not know sign language. Maybe a few signs here and there; all the type that were literal enough to just be called body language. He'd come into this aware of the fact that River wouldn't be able to communicate in the typical sense (talking wasn't 100% necessary for teamwork, after all) and, in lieu of being able to understand sign language, Archaleos was willing to be patient in deciphering the meaning behind a few gestures. The message River was trying to get across seemed simple enough. Not sure how to approach the situation. Well, that left him with a bit of thinking to do since they had a few options. Archaleos' dark, attentive gaze strayed from River to downward as he considered them: stay here, split up, or move around the back. Splitting up would cover both bases— an advantage —but that left the question of how they'd get each other's attention if/when the magi came out an exit. Archaleos was thinking similarly to his partner in that their target really didn't seem the type to be planning some grand escape, so the teen reasoned that staying put should be safe. ❝We should be all right staying here. I highly doubt that the magi has caught on to being tailed, and splitting up would be troublesome,❞ The silence left to yawn as Archaleos mulled the situation over was abruptly broken, his attention now flicking curiously to Aries. ❝Would your familiar be able to track them at all if they got out of view?❞ |

The hunter let out a sigh of relief. Good, he really didn't want to enter that freaking store. Maybe Kalidas was actually smiling down at him for a change? Doubtful, but ya know sometimes hell could freeze over! Lowering a hand, he rested it upon the mutes thick head and ruffled his fur with a small smile. All the while his vision moved from Arch to the main doors.
He wondered how long they would have to stand out here and wait for this stupid magi to come back out. He sighed softly and switched his weight to one foot and then the next. In the next five minutes he was beginning to feel restless. He then turned his attention back to the other and made a face to show how bored he was right now.
He didn't try to speak to the other with his hands as it would be fruitless nor did he have anything to write with either. Well, damn, this was going to be interesting. At the mention of Aries he nodded his head sharply. Aries could easily follow the Magi's scent. His familiar was keen on tracking down those pieces of shit. So, keeping track of it wouldn't be very hard and River could easily keep up with his familiar. Though, he wasn't sure if Arch could or not. He supposed he would have to see about that if it came down to cashing the trash.
Once again, knowing sign wouldn't work. He tried to make the universal gesture with his hands to ask Arch if he could keep up Aries if they had to make a chase.

So the dog could help out? That was a bit of helpful news among this less than convenient situation.
Not to say that things were going badly— in fact there had been no surprises nor mishaps all day —but this was definitely a tedious assignment. It was still ungodly hot out when you had to stand around in the open sun and, frankly, trailing after a magi as they went about some menial errands was pretty boring. Why not just get rid of it if the Hunter's Association had suspicions? Sigh. Well it wasn't Archaleos' call to make, so following the target is what they would do for now. Anyway... the teen empathized well with River's boredom, considering that Archaleos was feeling the same way. His attention was still dutifully focused on the storefront, watching for any glimpses of the magi, but idle ticks had slipped into his demeanor in the form of metallic fingers tapping against his crossed forearms. Click, click, click, click. Looping again and again. Eventually Archaleos just huffed a sigh and fought the urge to rake a hand messily back through his (usually neatly kept, but no so much so right now) hair. Motion from River out the corner of his eye grabbed Archaleos' attention again. ❝Running?❞ Something about that. Chasing maybe? He was evidently trying to puzzle out exactly what the other Hunter was trying to say if the furrow between his brows was any indication. ❝I'm assuming that you mean— oh, can I keep up with your familiar?❞ Impromptu charades going on here. ❝Yes. I would think so, anyway,❞ His speed was nothing to gawk at (by Hunter standards) however he'd done enough training over the years to get pretty fit. Being long legged helped. It was when Archaleos tossed another cursory glance back towards the store they'd been watching that he paused, catching the sight of the magi drifting out the door with that unhurried gait they'd been wandering about with all day. ❝Speaking of. I think we'll be moving on again.❞ |

Oh, thank the Gods! River turned his attention back to the store front at the same time as his familiar. A pleased smirk touched his features. This was more like it. It was starting to become rather boring and now that the Magi finally came out to say hello, it would be time to move out. With a small nod of his head and a click of his fingers, Aries was took off through the crowd.
The beast moved at an easy pace as a none threatening animal who was just a passing stray. The large dog trotted along behind the Magi at a decent pace as well as staying far behind. It was then that River slid his hands into his pockets and started moving. He was curious to see what the Magi might do with an animal following after them and pausing every so often.
Aries was careful not to be noticed and if he was he would just act like a sweet little thing that was lost. River on the other hand, moved amongest the crowd and allowed Arch to do what he pleased as he returned to the opposite side of the road he was once on. He really hoped the magi would take off running or do something of interest.
Otherwise, he as going to get bored and suggest he and Arch go elsewhere and see what trouble might happen in a different part of the city. River paused at a crosswalk and looked towards were he last saw his fellow hunter and where he would possibly be moving next.
