Liao Shan (TW abuse)

this is gospel for the fallen ones

Anything further that you'd like to elaborate on that could not be properly expressed in those itty bitty little lists goes here. 200 word minimum please.

Liao is 5'6" tall, shorter than the average guy. He doesn't try to intimidate anyone, but he carries himself well enough that sometimes he will inadvertently intimidate people anyway. He has an athletic build, but not a particularly muscle bound frame. He exercises regularly and so he is respectably toned regardless of his thinner frame.  His eyes are a piercing blue and are often full of kindness or mischief.  His skin is fair, or sometimes even a little bit tanned.  Most of the time he is clean shaven. His face often has a neutral sort of expression, or even a smile. It is very very rare that the peaceful man frowns in an outward manner. If he does, something very serious to him has just occurred.  He keeps his fair blonde hair long, either loose or in a ponytail.  He tries to keep himself looking well-kempt although there are times when he doesn't look as such, like after a workout.   

His strides are confident, easygoing and relaxed.  He never really rushes to get anywhere and as a result he has to either leave for his destination earlier, or he will end up being a bit late.  Fashionably late, he calls it.  He wears glasses to read but otherwise doesn't need them. 

If he were to take off his shirt, you might notice a collection of scars on his back, unfortunate results of his rebel personality as a teenager.  Results that should never have been there.




Liao often wears suits.  He does of course own proper priest robes that he wears on special occasions.  However he prefers to be in a professional looking suit, or dress shirts with the top button or so undone.  Slacks maybe.  He can be found in sleeveless shirts and jogging pants, or even gym shorts though, as those are what he trains in.  If he's working out and practicing his martial arts he of course isn't going to wear suits.  The interesting part of his style is his footwear though.  If he's wearing his robes, he wears sandals.  If he's trying to make a good impression on someone, he wears dress shoes with a heel on them.  And if he has nothing to prove, he wears black or white sneakers with his suits.  Sometimes black and white sneakers.

Liao was born in Fokradiin.  His parents were the warrior type, and planned to raise their son the same way.  His father was born in Ikigai while his mother was born from generations of warriors from Wuld, Strun and Fokradiin.  His father had moved to Fokradiin after finding that the Fokradiinian thinking was closer to the way he himself thought.  He met Gunnr at a bar when she was toasting a successful mercenary contract and they started working together.  Sometime later they fell in love and Liao's brother Magni was born three years after they met.  Liao was born a year after that. 

They did their best to train their sons in a variety of things, from guns to melee weapons.  At least, they taught Magni.  When it came time for Liao to learn those things, he learned as a child.  However, once he reached age twelve, things in their plan started to go wrong.  Liao refused to use weapons, only learning martial arts.  And he refused to use them against another person.  His warrior parents were appalled at the behaviour.  Whenever he refused, Liao was locked in a room to 'build character'.  They meant it to scare him.  He would get locked in there for different durations depending on how often he refused to touch weapons.  At first when they sent him there he would do what they wanted afterwards.  He would pick up the weapons and try his best to please his parents.   Along with his brother though, they talked their parents into letting Liao just perfect his martial arts.  He was more talented in them than weapons anyways, they reasoned.  And so it continued that way.  It wasn't ideal.  Liao did not want to fight, but he would so he wouldn't have to go back into that dark room too often.  When Liao was thirteen, Magni couldn't train him anymore.  Magni had gone away to Victor's Military Academy like most Fokradiinian kids did when and if they could.  Liao knew that he had only one year left of resisting before it would be his turn.  He cursed the fact he'd been born into a warrior culture.

When Liao was fourteen, he was sent to Victor's Military Academy where his brother had already been.  He did his very best to fly under the radar but it became apparent to the other students that he wasn't like them.  He didn't want to be a warrior.  They began picking on him for it, seeing him as the weak link.  Liao endured it for a year, and then he seemingly snapped and beat two of them up to the point where they had broken bones from the martial arts.  Afterwards, it was determined that Liao did not remember beating up his classmates, but he was punished regardless.  Liao used the time to meditate.

Upon graduating from Victor's Military Academy at age eighteen, Liao decided he would teach the martial arts he knew, but only those he deemed worthy.  He saw all the mercenaries and military using it to fight war, and he thought about what he would classify himself as.  He settled on 'Peacekeeper' and came up with tenets for his particular brand of peacekeeper to follow.  Anyone he deemed to be worthy of learning would be someone he knew to follow their own code, or Liao's.  Their views would have to be similiar.

Shan Peacekeeper Tenets are as follows:
1) A peacekeeper will intervene in situations where an innocent's life is at risk.
2) A peacekeeper will assess risk in all combat situations
3) A peacekeeper will care for their emotional and physical health first and foremost.  You cannot help people if you are dead.
4) A peacekeeper will not use their talents for their own personal gain.
5) A peacekeeper will not use their talents for the gain of a particular nation or group.
6) A peacekeeper strives for peace and harmony in their lives and the lives of others.  It may not be achieveable, but do your utmost best.

These tenets are currently kept to himself.  Liao has not shared his martial arts with anyone yet, and he has not shared his tenets with anyone either.  His way is to find out if someone has a similar code first.  It is difficult for him to ascertain worthiness with his self-imposed vow of silence, but he hopes to find people with attitudes leaning towards openness.
