Broad shouldered and well built, Bastien's toned form is the product of years training and physical activity. He is not particularly tall, standing at only 5'9'', but his posture is straight and his air is confident, making his height something that is easily forgotten. His skin is pale, a warm white with pinkish undertones, complementing dark brown eyes quite well.

His hair is straight, black, and shaved at the sides. More often than not, it is tied back in a ponytail, but when let down, it touches his shoulders. He has a neatly trimmed black goatee that comes to a point at his sharp chin. He has several piercings - a silver stud in his tongue and two studs on the bridge of his nose.

His canines are naturally elongated and sharpened, much like fangs, and his finger and toenails are sharper and hardier, resembling claws. The tips of his ears were once pointed, but bear scars from having been cut to resemble a "normal" shape. He has a black furred tail, resembling a cat's, extending from his tail bone and ending abruptly at his mid-thigh with the tip of it showing evidence of having been cut. He generally hides it under his clothing unless in the company of other magi.

Bastien dresses like he used to be rich, which is true. His clothing is all tasteful, tailored to his shape, and made of expensive materials. It was also in style a few years ago and now has a some signs of wear and tear - a hole there, a stain there. He looks a bit like a very astute thrift store shopper, but in reality he just hasn't had to money to get new clothing - at least the kind that's up to his standards - in the past few years.

biography

Bastien was born in the sky or as close as you can get. Hailing from Tensai in Ikigai, he grew up in a city that towered over the clouds, built up rather than out. His father was a fire magi and an engineer and came from a long line of similarly skilled people. He was wealthy in his own right when he married human socialite, Solene Giroux. The Giroux family, originally from Ethea, but lured to Ikigai by the tech industry, had its fingers in all kinds of pies from computers to transportation to shipping. Solene had made a name for herself as a journalist, traveling the world and finding the more unusual stories.

Bastien was the second of three children and as such, was occasionally lost in the scuffle. His parents were far from negligent. Their wealth was obscene, but they preferred to take an active role in parenting rather than hiring help. With three kids, all within a few years of each other, someone was going to be pushed to the side and Bastien, with his quieter temperament, was that someone. When he did get direct attention, it generally came from his mother, who Bastien adored. The stories that she told about traveling the world captured him and from a young age, he was announcing that he wanted to be a journalist like his mother. His parents, knowing the state of the world's opinion on magi, didn't have the heart to tell him that he couldn't.

Attention from his parents aside, Bastien rarely wanted for anything. Toys, games, pets, clothing. His parents spoiled their children endlessly. It was done out of love, but it had the unfortunate side effect of hiding the concept of hardship from their children, who grew into privileged people who lacked understanding of the suffering of others. This isn't to say that Bastien wasn't aware of the hardships that people faced, but he didn't think very hard about the subject.

When he was thirteen, his parents sent him to Homura to study at the Magi Training Academy. He lived there until he was twenty-five, studying fire magic under the greatest teachers that Ikigai had to offer. He kept in close contact with his mother, who continued to travel for work. She had a particular interest in the treatment of magi in Ethea as her family was originally from there and her children were all magi.

His school career was an eye opening experience as Bastien, previously limited to a world filled with wealth and privilege, intermingled with other children of all classes. He was not particularly popular initially, as he was seen as a spoiled rich kid, which was a fair assessment. Bastien largely interacted with his siblings who were also at the school or kept to himself. He developed an interest in archery and began practicing daily after classes. Eventually, as the other students realized  that he wasn't an asshole, they became more friendly and Bastien was able to leave his cocoon of isolation.

After Bastien completed his schooling, he returned to Tensai. A perpetual student, he spent next several years studying languages and journalism. With his parents footing the bill, Bastien was able to take his time with his studies - which he did. He spent a great deal of time traveling around Ikigai, garnering a reputation as an entitled rich kid, which wasn't much of a false impression. When he finally did complete his studies, his mother got him a job at her news network.

As his mother aged, she purchased cybernetic upgrades in order to extend her life and allow her to continue her passion - her job. When the magi genocide in Ethea ended, she was the first to volunteer to travel and cover the subject. Her family was not supportive of this, citing her age as well as the dangers, but Solene was stubborn and left for Ethea. She never returned.

Three months passed with no word from Solene and Bastien took it hardest of all. He was used to talking to his mother every day. The sudden radio silence, the inability for anybody to locate even a whisper of her location drove him insane. He imagined all sorts of horrible scenarios, but the not knowing was the worst of all. His father hired people to look for her, to scout the Ethean countryside, but with the political upheaval of the country, nothing turned up and every day, Bastien's frustration increased. Until he, very stupidly, said that if his father's hired goons couldn't find her, he'd go get her himself. He wouldn't return, he swore, until he had found her.

Bastien knew of the treatment of magi in Ethea in abstract terms, but he hadn't really understood. When he arrived in Ethea, the locals took one look at his ears and tail and started talking down to him. Coming from a place of wealth and privilege, this was a shock to Bastien who thought that sort of thing would never happen to him. Regardless, he pressed on, intent on finding his mother. He had her itinerary, so he had a general idea of where she'd gone. She'd been heading toward the Great Plains, seeking the "real" Ethean experience. Bastien followed her footsteps for weeks, asking after her in increasingly small towns with increasingly discriminatory locals. Eventually, his search brought him to Colstead, a small farming village. After weeks of no results, he nursed his frustrations at a local bar and then later, drunk, left to return to the inn that he was staying at. Something sharp hit the back of his neck and the world disappeared.

Bastien had never tried uppers or downers before, but had he, he would have known that they caused him to have seizures. Which is what he experienced as the gang of angry locals surrounded him after shooting him with a downer laced dart. They had also been drinking and hadn't liked a magi, let alone some snooty Ikigain magi, asking questions and acting like he owned the place. Semi-conscious, Bastien wasn't able to fight back as he was dragged into a barn. There, the pointed tips of his ears and roughly half of his tail were hacked off. He remembered them laughing at him and he thought that he could still hear it the next morning when he woke up in the barn, alone and bloody.

He left for Dagos, frightened, angry, and ashamed. He hadn't found his mother and he'd been overtaken by a pack of humans like he hadn't spent years learning magic. He couldn't bring himself to go home, not looking like he did. Instead, he holed up in a hotel in Dagos, ruminating on his failures, becoming convinced that some backwater humans had done something to his mother. It was there that the Magi Liberation Movement found and recruited him, interested in his education, connections, and experiences. Bastien, having experienced the dark side of humanity, was an easy recruitment.

Bastien hasn't returned to Ikigai and he doesn't intend to. He swore to bring his mother home and he hasn't found her yet.

Flame I: Just as most Magi Magic, the flames must already exist. So be prepared to carry around matches and lighters with you. You are able to grow fire from your immediate person to double your arms length.

Ash: You can call ash and make it dance like any flame. The more powerful your Flame ability, the more ash you can summon and control (Following the same restrictions as your Flame ability). This can be used to create screens, flung at foes, or for other creative uses.

Archery I: Can accomplish fundamental and basic feats with weapon.
Example of weapons allowed at this stage: Recurve Bow, Compound Bow, Longbow, Crossbow, etc

Grenade: As you may have guessed those fiery projectiles aren't just burning someone now if they land. Upon making first contact with whatever it does it will explode with the approximate same strength as a military grenade.
