A Tavern was supposed to be a place to kick back and relax without much concern. It was supposed to be a place to unwind from work and forget your troubles. It was supposed to be a lot of things but for Enki it was anything but all of those options. He had left work early and his duties as a Hunter had been fulfilled for the day. He had taken Aries to a dog park, had a great meal and took him home to go out on his own for a bit. A bad idea really, he should of kept Aries near by. As long as he had his familiar most of the Guild let him be as his beast was renown for not taking shit from others unlike his master who took it like a pro. [break][break] As soon as he had ordered his first drink he had taken to sitting in the back of the tavern in a small two person booth. With his legs out across the seat in front of him he had started to enjoy himself, knowing that no decent human being would really come here and he could be left in peace. But alas, that only lasted for a few moments as the barking laughter of a few Guildmates could be heard and he knew he was done for right then and there. A long groan came from the Hunter as soon as one spoke his name. "Eh, well lookie here. It's River without Aries for a change. Well, isn't that something? Where's your familiar at, Mute?" One asked as his friend pipped in. "Fuck the dog, if you notice he doesn't have Wynters near by or that gal that stuck around him either. You know, the purple haired one?" Both men took towards leaning against River's seat with large grins. They knew River wasn't the type to do anything about being picked on and what was he going to do? Call for help? Not likely. With an amused look while River stared down at his drink, one of them ran their hand through the much shorter dark locks of the cursed hunter. Having taken notice of the much shorter and non spiked hair with a dark chuckle. [break][break] "Oh, did Wynter's get tired of your looks? Or did he want to see your ugly throat more?" It then suddenly dawned on Jake as he turned towards his friend that no one really got to see that scar. "Hey, have you ever seen his scar before? I hear it looks wicked. Wanna see it?" The banter went on and River spared him only a look before brushing the man's hand away with irritation. Why was it always him? Yeah, not many of Guild cared for him too much because of his personal life choices or the fact their Goddess cursed him. He was shunned in the Guild for that. Adjusting the collar of his shirt, he blocked their sight from his covered scar and ducked his head away from the hand. This only helped for a moment as the other Guildmate, recalling their name to be Jake, reached out and took a fist full of his shorter locks. Not a single sound came from the cringing hunter but his sai came out openly and locked into place on the man's wrist. With smooth movements he twisted the man's wrist painfully. [break][break] The force behind his weapon should of sent the man screaming but it seemed Jakes partner reacted quickly. He took hold of the blade and jerked it upwards to keep his friends wrist from cracking. Great, that was lovely. Now he was stuck with his weapon countered and a hand still holding him by the hair. "Come on, Mute. We just wanna see what the Goddess did to you. Nothing wrong with that now is it?" Slipping his wrist out from the weapon while his friend disarmed River, he was pulled at an awkward angle. [break][break] There was no point in signing his opinion on this matter but he did not like people trying to get a peek at his neck. Annoyed that one of his sai's had been taken he squirmed awkwardly in his seat, twisting to jab Jake in the face only for his own face to be slammed into the table. The small hunter squirmed and fought back for a moment. Apparently, Jake had other ideas and took River's stolen sai, stabbing it into the table around one wrist to lock it into place. Reaching for the hand that held his hair there was little he could do while Jake jerked at the wrappings around the old scar. [break][break] "Oh come on, stop this shit. It's not like its going to hurt you to show us. Stop acting like a little brat!" Jake found the end of the wrap and began to undo it. River panicked with a growl. This was stupid. Didn't this shit only happen in middle school? Digging his nails into Jake's wrist he tired to shove it away but failed. He didn't have enough leverage. "Stop squirming!" No one in the tavern seemed to bat an eye at the events in the back and if anyone noticed, no one particularly cared. This was the last time he was going for a drink without Aries. “I’ll have another one sir~” Kai sang. Promptly another drink appeared in front of her. Silent and efficient here no? Her second inner voice agreed with the observation. She regarded her drink shyly, contemplating. Magi normally wouldn’t be welcomed anywhere, but although they might not have cared too much in a place like this Kai had learned it was best to keep your tail in your clothes and your ears hidden behind a fake pair if you didn’t want any trouble. Especially since you never knew where the hunters were. She shivered, recalling his brother’s ‘Hunters speech’ a few months back. Needless to say the lesson terrified her, but now she knew better than to go flaunting her traits as she did when she first got here. However paranoid now, she was probably safer off this way. Kai finally took a sip of his drink enjoying the solemn quiet. In a two person booth alone the fox enjoyed her drink to the fullest. Though their eye twitched angrily as the silence was broken. It was a particularly rowdy group. Although she could probably ignore them her fox ear perked at the words ‘familiar’ and ‘mute’. Vaguely Kai remembered reading that some hunters tame animals to assist them in combat, ‘familiars’. Immediately she wanted to bolt, but she had to stay calm. Out of the corner of her eye she watched the scene. Terrified. "Fuck the dog, if you notice he doesn't have Wynters near by or that gal that stuck around him either. You know, the purple haired one?" Now she was starting to feel bad. Perhaps even hunters had it bad. The juxtaposition was startling. Things got real (serious) when the man sitting down pulled out a sai. The reluctant hope was crushed when he was quickly disarmed. Why are you supporting a hunter?! Head your head together sister! A loud thud shook Kai out of her thoughts, in her peripheral vision she could see the man pinned down to the table. Instantly she blushed, repulsed at the implications. Another thud, and the sai was sticking out of the table. "Stop squirming!" They growled, and she knew she couldn’t let this go on any further. Without turning her head too much she turned to get a full view of the scene, and she focused on the sai. Please forgive me Arithelia. Steadily the sai rose from the table, allowing the trapped hunter free hand movement. Violence isn’t the answer. When it rose to eye level she pointed the sai to the man holding the hunter down. But as I understand, it still is one heck of a response. And with her mind, thrust it toward their shoulder, the one helping to hold down the pinned man The man screamed as he was impaled, and it didn’t help that she spun in around as it dug into his flesh. Relieving the man of his pain she let her mind wander to the hunter’s forgotten drink, and again with her powers, flung the glass of whatever, into the face assaulter's partner. She would wait to see if anymore assistance would be needed. Note: Maybe a bit much... But eh, *shrugs*. Let me know if you need anything changed or edited, or clarified. Kai's Attire (Traits hidden)Enki River PS: Just to clarify, the sai dug into the guy holding down River down and the glass flung onto Jake.

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] This was certainly not how he expected his night to go at all. He had planned to have a simple drink or two before going home. He would of then took a shower, cuddled with Aries, and sleep in for a few hours on the following day. But alas, here he was getting bullied outside of work and it pissed him off like no other. Jake might of thought it was a good time to pick on him because he was without his usual group but if he could get free, he was going to show Jake what was up! [break][break] The mute grunted and balled the hand that was trapped at the wrist from his sai. His head was pulled forcefully up to wiggle the wrappings free. The bandages hung loosely at his neck and he would of done some other kind of movement to fight back but his sai caught his attention. The thing wiggled and wobbled as it slipped out of the wood. He could feel his wrist freeing up and he didn’t honestly question what the hell was going on. He wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth! His weapon moved on its own accord and so did the glass. [break][break] Jake’s friend screamed out in pain while Jake pulled back to get the drink out from his eyes. River wasted no time and shoving himself up and in one smooth motion he was out of the booth with a kick to Jake’s chest. He turned on his heels while reaching out to jerk his weapon free from Jake’s friend. His free hand went straight for his second weapon to fully arm himself. Switching the weapons both to a defensive position with the butt of the weapon resting against his thumbs he made two quick jabs. One right into Jake’s friends neck and the other into Jake’s nose, cracking it loudly. Screams, as well as a gagging noise would resound from the two. That would teach them to mess with him for at least five minutes. Jake wasn’t the type to take pain well and in fact would become furious at such a thing. This was demonstrated by the larger man making a grab for the much smaller who ducked down and ran past him. Of course, not without jabbing him in the ribs and the other in passing. [break][break] Dancing around them he headed straight towards the door, sparing a glance directly at Kai with a strange look on his face. How did his weapons move on their own? He had an idea but he wasn’t sure on it due to the fact Jake was now raging inside the tavern and causing quite the ruckus as River got outside and disappeared onto a fire escape. Jake and his buddy, blind with rage, ran right under him screaming something about skinning River and feeding him to his dog. Coming down to the first level of the fire escape he sat on the hanging ladder with a sigh. Putting his weapons away, he took to pulling the loosened wraps from his neck, stare at them, and then promptly redress his neck. ”What a night…” He thought to himself, his amber eyes going towards the door of the tavern as he was positive he was hearing someone exited it. Oh dear. Turns out Kai was correct about the man, the only people who could fight like that were hunters, and eighty year old martial arts masters. She slowly turned away from the scene and tried to make herself look as small as possible. No way would she survive if they figured out it was her who interfered. She was immediately regretting her decision if it caused this much noise. Honestly. With just her hearing she get a good idea of what was going on. Based on the grunts and screams, and considering that one of them was mute, it was safe to bet that the other two were getting their just dues. After all the man they picked on didn't really seem too swell with their plans, this was just retribution. Yea, keep telling yourself that, you did shove a sai into some guy's shoulder. Once in a while the other voice was right. At those times, she sighed, and drank something comforting. Gulping down the liquid she emptied out. Setting the glass aside as the trio finished their skirmish and the violence started to calm. Instinctively she thought about the muted man. What was his story, maybe he was born mute, but then why would he be a hunter? Perhaps injured on the job. But that doesn't make sense! Why would he still there? Couldn't he find some zero magi to, oh yea... hunter... I forgot. Her eyes caught those of River as he dashed out the building. The moment felt longer somehow... But she didn't have time to dwell on it as the two defeated hunters started cursing and screaming. She blinked in surprise when the two men ran out after the mute. Didn't they already learn their lesson? Although he probably didn't need Kai's help, in her head she had already made the decision, but her instincts couldn't help but disagree. The conversation went a little something like this. (Brain: Go after him, Survival: No, Brain: Go, Survival: Fine...) After a split second of hesitation she made her decision. After the two men left she snuck out a fork and knife in her each of her sleeves, just in case. Calmly walking outside she cursed to herself when the two men were no where in sight. "I should've ran out earlier, no they're gone..." He froze when she heard something above her. She swerved around to try and catch sight of a bird perched on the one of the railings. "Oh, alright." When she turned back she caught something at the edge of her sight. Slowly this time, Kai turned back, thoroughly observing her surroundings, a dark shade was apparent atop one of the fire escapes, it was dark so the shape was hard to discern. You should try at least "Um, excuse me?" Her voice came out high, "Um, were you- uh, did you see a young man, about my height, black hair, rush out of the tavern. Mister?" She asked unsure of the person there, but silently prayed that he could tell her something about him. Notes: --- Enki River

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] Clipping his bandages back into place he made sure they wouldn’t unravel until he was ready for them to come off. Rubbing at his throat he gave a small content sigh with a feeling of relief. Casually, he watched the two brutes run off into the night in hopes of catching someone who excelled in running. A small humpf escaped him before he finally looked down below him. A woman close to his height came out from the tavern. She seemed to be scanning the area and muttering something about them being gone. Well, in truth, two of them where defiantly gone and one remained. His brows came together with slight interest in the woman. [break][break] At first, she didn’t seem to see him leaning on the stairs above. This amused him just slightly and so he shimmied down to the lowest level of the stairs. By the time the young woman turned back to adjust him he would casually flip and hang up side down from the stairs above her. He would come face to face with the young woman. His arms where promptly crossed over his chest as he stared right into her eyes. Luckily, it seemed her words came before he probably startled her, if at all. For all he knew, she might of seen him coming---or not. Either way it didn’t matter to him. [break][break] His head tilted to one side, his necklace hanging near his forehead and luckily, his shirt remained in place due to him having it shoving the hem of it into his pants. His hair, however, would lightly tickle her face. He found it strange that she would be in a tavern like this and even come outside to see what became of three rough looking fellows. Amber eyes narrowed intensely at her for a long moment. Clearly, River wasn’t sure what to make of her…was she human or magi? He had the suspension it was the later and even if that was the case he was off the clock right now. [break][break] To answer her question though he would merely drop an arm to point at himself with his index finger near his nose. If she was looking for a man that fit that description it would be him. Which meant, she more then likely was the one to cause his weapon to move and unless that was some kind of strange cyber skill then she was most defiantly what he could consider an enemy. Again though, he was off the clock and thus was in no mood to really try to fight someone, magi or not. [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

Kai gave a surprised gasp when she came face to face with the man. After inquiring about her mystery person, their subject flipped over the railing, hanging like a bat upside down. She swallowed reflexively, taking a step back. Studying their face more closely the pieces began to fit into place. "Those eyes are kinda familiar" She thought. For a couple moments they both just stood, or hanged, there, watching the other. Eyes of silver and amber following each other, sights mixing with each other. She winced under his harsh gaze, but eased somewhat a moment later. Raising their arm River pointed at himself. It took a moment of processing before Kai understood this was to be their answer. Silver eyes widened, mouth slightly parted. "Oh." Was all she said. It must've been a sight, a young defenseless magi getting so bothered over the safety of a hunter. His brother was so specific about how she ought to avoid hunters, what could happen if she wasn't careful. Though- She shook her head, what was done is done, just don't screw up this meeting or do anything that could get you killed. "Well I'm glad that you're alright, I'm guessing you're alright?" Stowed away under her clothes her tail swayed a little. It must've been a sight, a young defenseless magi getting so bothered over the safety of a hunter. What the hell was she thinking, she wasn't. That was precisely what was keeping her from freaking out. She just had to keep it up. 'Pretend you know nothing, don't give the impression that you are a magi or know any magi.' Her inner voice commanded. For once she was not inclined to argue with it's advice. Her eyes tilted to the right, away from the man. "Sorry about your night out, those guys were thugs, you shouldn't have had to deal with that." Straightening her gaze she looked toward the man, forced joy masking her face. "By the way, since you never finished your meal, do you want to get something?" She offered weakly, after a thought she added, "Even if you're heading home I wouldn't mind getting you something for the way." Food, yes, the perfect way to distract anybody. Especially when her stomach was the one growling. The magi blushed, smiling, now that she thought about it she never got the chance to order food at the Tavern. "I'm totally not buying you food because I'm hungry too." Notes: --- Enki River

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] His gaze never broke as he studied the young lady carefully. His gaze lingered upon the ears upon her head. They looked fake to him but he wasn’t overly sure if that was the actual case. However, he had yet seen them react like an actual pair of fox ears and with being satisfied for the time being that she was probably not on his hit list, dangerous, or overall something to be concerned about his eyes would finally drop. A soft sigh escaped the hunter as he remained hanging in place. Of course, he knew she wouldn’t know how to properly speak to him as no one really did. It always surprised him and bothered him how often he came across an individual that did not know ESL. Shouldn’t that be a thing for the schools? [break][break] Oh well, whatever, this was his life and he had eventually grown used to it over time---somewhat. Raising a brow at her he would then casually shrug his shoulder. A moment later, he would give her an “okay” sign to make it clear he was totally fine. He wasn’t actually harmed but he was far more annoyed with what went on more then anything. Really, didn’t people of the Guild have better things to do? [break][break] Again, he eyed her strangely when she offered a meal. While he wasn’t that hungry he found it werid for her to ask such a thing. But he gave no indication of flipping around to stand like a proper human being. Nor did he give any indication of agreeing with her to get something to eat. The only thing he did do was reaching down to take hold of his necklace with a ring on it and stuff it back into his shirt. He remained upside down for a moment later until he was tired of it. Dropping down and a quick twist of his body made him properly land on his feet with hands stuffed into his pockets. [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

Kai chuckled nervously as the muted man continued to stare at her ears, (Thank goodness she learned how to cast illusions.), his eyes carrying a silent weight to them. The kitsune was unsure if he was trying to be intimidating but if he was it was certainly working. Rubbing the back of her neck she tilted a smile in slight pose. She was tempted to ask if he liked the view but her voice wouldn’t work properly. The magi relaxed somewhat when the hunter’s gaze dropped. Kai stared curiously at what River was doing with his hand, flexing the pointer finger and thumb and pressing them together, relaxing the other fingers. Wait… aren’t you supposed to get pinched if you stare into the circle? Moving just her feet she scooted another inch away from the hunter, keeping the same contemplative look on her face. Oh! That’s what he meant. “I’m glad you’re alright.” She scanned him again, well- “Mostly.” Her expression turned into discomfort as River resumed his intense staring at Kai. It was dawning on her how hard communication might be for those who aren’t familiar with Sign Language. Mentally makes a note to try and learn telepathy next she thought to herself. She opened her mouth to say something but immediately closed it right away. The only response he gave was to tuck his necklace back in his shirt, giving a glimpse of skin. Kai focus. but she continued to stare. Focus on something else, you poor child… At that she focused back on River’s amber eyes. After a moment of tense thoughts and silence, and the exchanging of sights of course, the man flipped back down to the ground like it was nothing. The familiar burning of envy in her heart was hard to ignore. “Nice.” Was all she had to say. When he said nothing she nearly slapped her head in frustration, she forgot he was mute, even though she had been thinking about in moments ago. The magi sighed, “Well if you don’t wanna get something to eat can you escort me back home? I’m still kinda new and I’m not really familiar with this area.” She scratched the back of her head shyly. “You wouldn’t mind protecting a sweet, innocent, adorable girl back to her house in the middle of the night in a dangerous area, would you?” Kai winked. | [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] Mostly? She was mostly glad he was okay, huh? His shoulders shook with a silent laughter with her words amusing him just enough to get a reaction. A small smirk touched his lips with a shake of his head from the humor he found in the situation. But still, that didn’t quite explain how his sai moved on its own though he had his suspensions but without any proof he could not act on what his instincts suggested. For now, he shoved that to the side of his mind. A moment later, he would tilt his dark head at her with a look of uncertainty. [break][break] A brow soon followed at her last sentence. A sweet, innocent, adorable girl huh? Well, she was kinda cute and he would admit that only to himself. He took a moment to consider her words with a small noise that could be a small ‘hmm’. To be honest he didn’t really have anything going on tonight. Nor did he have any plans other then returning home so maybe seeing someone home wouldn’t be too much out of his way. Giving Kai a small shrug and a slight nod of his head he would agree to walk her home. Stepping up beside her after adjusting his sais in their confines. Making a single motion for her to start walking he would follow after her at his own easy pace. [break][break] Once they started moving, River let out a small yawn. That was the small problem of being near someone that could only communicate vocally. He was unable to start a conversation or hold one very well. He had no pen or paper to share his thoughts with and hand gestures could only get him so far. This would be a tricky thing if she decided to speak to him, which he expected she would. Hmm, scratching the back of his head he turned his eyes towards the street signs as they passed by them to keep himself busy. [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

Kai smiled when the hunter had agreed to walk her home, but when he reached for his hidden weapon Kai had half a mind to dash out of there, though the other half of that same mind froze up. She noticeably relaxed when it became clear that he was simply fixing them. Saying nothing when River moved up to her. For the most part Kai followed his lead. Probably not the best idea since he doesn’t know where she lived. Or does he? A suspicious voice whispered in the back of her head. He probably didn’t, hopefully. “Turn left.” Kai led, directing both of them. When she was ahead of River she turned back around, walking backwards. Studying the man before her. He was slightly taller than her in her current state, she prayed that her male equivalent was a little taler, with a fair bit of thin frame. Though, she couldn’t tell; did he actually have muscles? She bent closer to River while maintaining her pace. Well, there’s some there. “Well hi there.” Smiling brightly with another wink. Not quite sure what it was about him that made him special in her eyes. Even though he was a hunter she couldn’t deny that he was rather charming. Keep moving sister Her inner voice warned. The magi obliged, moving back to River’s side with a skip. When she looked at the bandages Kai was instantly reminded of the scene at the tavern. Then she thought about the guys assaulting him. Didn’t then mention something about a goddess. A spark of hope filled her chest. Although a firm believer never had she actual encountered one. However it could also just be a nickname for some kind of super hunter lady they have back at headquarters. But either way... It was just a guess, but maybe he got some sort of neck injury from this, “goddess”, which affected his speech. If that was the case, why didn’t he find someone to help him with it? A doctor might fix him up, even a magi- Oh right, hunter. If only Kai was a stronger healer maybe she could do something to help him. Not saying that she would! Just that it would be nice. The curiosity got the better of her and she just had to ask. “So, just a wondering, I don’t think I ever asked, are you a really a hunter?” If she was right and he was a hunter, well, shoot. But if he wasn’t then she could finally relax around him. Notes: Not-ApplicableEnki River

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] There was little he had to say to the woman next to him and so he kept to himself. He only glanced at her when she gave him a sudden instruction to turn left, he did. With his hands in his pockets he slowly raised a brow at the young woman. She suddenly took a few steps ahead of him and started walking backwards, staring. Staring at him? Okay, that wasn’t a bit strange at all. Enki tilted his head to the side just slightly in a manner of observation. Why was she staring at him like he was on display? Was she trying to figure him out or trying to locate something that was on his person? River felt suddenly very awkward with the way she was looking him over. [break][break] Averting his eyes he would huff lightly to blow a bit of his dark hair away from his eyes. Ah well, let her look. There was no harm in that now was there? At least, none that he could possibly think of at the moment at least. Finally, she seemed to be satisfied with herself and returned next to his side. Thank Goodness. Really, he didn’t fully understand this girl and he wasn’t sure if he wanted too either. She was just a bit on the strange side but then again he took strange company everyday. Maybe he should invest in finding normal friends? Nah, that would be too much work honestly. [break][break] While he relaxed around her just enough to return to focusing on their surroundings her sudden question about his possible occupation certainly caught him a bit off guard. Turning his head towards her direction he offered a small smirk and a chuckle which came out as a strange little noise. In confirmation, he would nod his head at her. Yeah, he was a hunter all right and one that wasn’t very good at his job for a long time. He only ever put in the minimum effort for the job requirement. But that was now changing, it had to change. The guild was moving forward and he had people to look after as well as making sure they did not die. [break][break] A sudden thought hit him like a brick. For some unknown reason he had forgotten he had a phone. He wasn’t sure how that skipped his mind but it really did. With a small roll of his eyes at himself for being stupid he would reach into his back pocket and pull out his phone. Unlocking the device and cracking open a screen he would then type in a question. Once he was done he turned the screen towards her in order for her to read it properly. The message read: “Rather blunt in the question department, aren’t cha?” There would be a space and another sentence. “Anyways, I’m off duty.” [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

Kai smiled weakly at his surprise, or happiness? There were a bit of mixed signals with the sound he made, but his smile reassured her he was fine. Kai’s own smile dimmed a bit when he nodded. So you really are a hunter huh. Despite her disappointment and desire to ask for confirmation, to know if he was lying, she knew wasn’t. The feeling wasn’t so much an empathetic thing as a instinctual one. She gripped a tight fist with her left hand, away from River’s sight, and let the sharp nails dig there for a while. Regrettably they weren’t sharp enough to cut through her skin but she was determined to grow them out for that reason. But she relaxed her grip, enjoying the feeling of blood rush back into her fingers. “Hm?” Kai blinked. Out of the corner of her eyes she caught River reaching for something in his pocket. After a moment to unlock the device, she caught him typing. She cocked her head curiously, guiding them right when they came across an intersection. Kai took a look at the hunter’s message when he turned it toward her. After finishing reading his message she pondered carefully her next words. “I suppose, but I was rather curious, I’ve always- Wait off duty?” She turned to her gaze forward. Wow. She shifted back to River. “Never knew you guys-slash-gals-slash-hunter-people went off duty. I guess it might get tiring hunting m- baddies after a while.” Kai shrugged, Not quite sure what to make of it. For a while she let that sink in and just walk. If River had any other questions she’d answer them, but in the back of her mind she was still trying to imagine hunters as normal people. Then again she had always thought they were completely unison, a perfect group of wolves, always ready to attack. It was a bit of a shocker to find that they fought each other from time to time. Even the man standing next to her, breathing, smiling, that half-laugh thing, all sign that he was mortal. That he was human. A dark thought crossed her mind. Adjusting her fake cosplay ears she’d turn back to River, a look of severity and simple curiosity masking her features. “What do you think of magi? Wait, no scratch that.” Her face twisted into a quirked frown as she considered the weight of her question. You’re just overreacting She told herself. A her face relaxed as her hesitation was dispelled. “Have you ever killed anyone?” Notes: Enki River

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] River’s gaze studied the young girl for a moment, she looked rather tense. While the reasons were rather unclear to why she felt that way he had a few ideas. Either she was a magi supporter or one hiding their traits. Both were a possibility and something he really didn’t care about. He was in no mood to deal with it and, again, he was off duty. Thus, it was no longer his concern or to be alert of anything that seemed a little funny to him. His shoulders shook with amusement as he chuckled softly, a thing smile touching his lips. So, she never thought they went off duty, eh? Surprise. Some of the hunters considered themselves that twenty for seven and then there were some that dropped the title as soon as they went home. [break][break] He shook his head at her and typed on his phone, showing her his messages. ”Everyone is different.” and that was it really. He had nothing else to say for the moment and so he walked on with following her every turn. He wasn’t sure how far her home was but he assumed it wouldn’t be too far out. His steps suddenly came to an abrupt stop. His mind buzzed to comprehend the questions she had just thrown at him as if it was something she asked everyday to a stranger. [break][break] River had been asked before on what he thought of magi but he had never been asked if he had killed someone before. That alone caused his mind to shut down as he recalled the lives he took, including his wife’s. It seemed that Kai had unknowingly opened a can of worms that River would have been perfectly fine to let be. His amusement left his face completely, his eyes switched away from her to the direction they were currently walking. He found something to catch his eye, anything to stare at other then the girl next to him asking things she really shouldn’t. His thumb idly rotated around his buttons like it was hunting for some kind of answer to give her but nothing came to mind. [break][break] Eventually, his hands typed away on his phone. A moment later he would face her with the most deadpan expression known to man kind. It was one hundred percent unreadable. There was no way to tell what he was feeling at this very moment through expressions alone. ”How about you come up with a better question before you find out the answer to that question?” [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

Kai read his message, a small smile pressed against her lips, but she pushed it aside. River hadn't exactly answered her question, but his response had left some hope for the magi. Not all hunters hated magi, and while not all magi hated humans. Kai briefly wondered how cyborgs and synthetics fit into the picture. The silence to her side after asking her second question was concerning. "You alright?" She asked concerned, but a voice in her mind spoke. You shouldn't have asked that question her mind flared. When Kai turned back she was encountered with the a blank expression that reminded her of her own quiet resentment, a pit of fire barely disguised by dead eyes. Kai could swear that her heart died a little inside when she read his note, but she brushed it off the best she could and hoped he didn't notice her pain. "Noted." She replied coldly. Kai asked a question, and got an answer. Now if only she could avoid all the emotional stuff. She didn't try to interact with River too much after that. The mood was too tense to do anything about it. Instead Kai focused on leading them to her house. She was already starting to recognize a few buildings and even the signs so they were getting closer. She avoided thinking about the hunter beside her as she walked toward the residential area. She didn't want to end this on a sour note. But what could she say? I'm sorry? For what? Kai didn't know what to do. Between an curious, overly emotional magi and a pissed off hunter, what was to be expected? when she could see the familiar outlining of her house she stopped them both. "I may be overstepping again, but since we probably won't see each other, like, ever, for a really long time... So I think I can speak freely." The kitsune winked with a coy smile. "Sorry I just don't wanna end on a bad note." She waited, to see River's response. If he didn't want to go through with another punch to a gut she would understand, but if allowed, Kai would speak. Notes: Medium sized monologue approaching. Enki River

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] Gazing at the woman, he had to wonder what on earth was going on insider her head? He didn’t quite grasp why someone would ask him the questions she was spewing out. Most people asked what he liked to eat, why he was around Oliver, or if he wanted a drink. Never had he really been asked about if he killed someone or not. He figured the answer would be obvious though he wouldn’t confirm or deny such a thing. He wasn’t comfortable with it. Luckily, she seemed to have recognized her mistake and the conversation moved. He would sigh softly at her poke of if he was all right or not. [break][break] He was perfectly fine and gave her a small thumbs up in reply. Granted, he wasn’t at all thrilled with their current conversation. He hoped she would pick something else to talk about like doughnuts or something. Anything that didn’t involve killing others. His gaze would soon leave her to glance around at their surroundings. It seemed that no one was coming near them or paying much attention to them at all. Good, it meant that he was probably going to be left alone for the remainder of the night. He subconsciously followed her towards her home and only looked at her again once she spoke. [break][break] A dark brow rose in question. Honestly, he couldn’t figure her out to save his life. She seemed to move from one thing to another and then now stuck on her mistake. Again, River sighed and typed out a message on his phone for her to read. ”It’s fine. But, you’re bit of a strange one, aren’t ya?” The text would read. A moment later he lowered his phone to see what she might do next. [break][break][break]OOC NOTES
